#it’s just so fun I love the looks they’re so funny

I was wondering if you had any lesser known stories or tidbit about Jack and Kick? They’re my fav Kennedy duo and had such a sweet relationship but I feel like we get so little about them.

*cracks knuckles* well well well... you've come to the right place! jack and kick are my favorite duo out of the kennedy siblings.

unfortunately, we get too little about kick in general, mostly because she wasn't a public figure like the rest of the kennedys and that she died so young. i'll try to list some stories/tidbits most people don't know about them (some funny and some sad):

Joe Jr., Jack and Kick were Joe Sr.'s "Golden Trio", but Jack and Kick were closer because Joe Jr. could be an intimidating older brother figure who wanted to live up to his status as Joe Sr.'s "golden boy" whereas Jack and Kick were the rebels of the family.

As kids, Jack and Kick were quite rebellious (especially against Rose). Jack would call out for Kick using Rose's heavy Boston accent and he'd always exaggeratively call her Kathleen like their mother did. Rose had a habit of installing clocks everywhere around the house so people wouldn't miss important times of the day like mealtimes. Jack and Kick would take turns persuading the cook if they missed mealtime.

As teenagers, they would sneak out of the house together to go dancing at clubs or the movies once JFK got his driving license. Rose would actually get in her car and come looking for them, so they learned to recognize her car headlights and they'd drive back to the house quickly, close the doors and take off their shoes quietly and sneak into their beds pretending to be asleep. They got caught once and Rose pinned a note on Kick's pillow about it: "The next time be sure to be in on time".

Their relationship was really mostly based on jokes and banter. They rarely were serious together and this mostly happened towards the end of Kick's life - after Joe Jr., and her husband Billy were dead.

Kathleen and Jack were both incredibly messy and disorganized, and left clothes, music records, books, etc. all over their bedroom floors.

Kick's nickname for Jack was "Twinkle-toes" because he'd take her dancing at nightclubs all the time.

They'd also call each other "Kid". When Jack got mad at Kick for flirting with all his friends, Kick replied "Gosh Kid, that's too close to a knuckle".

Jack and Kick would often drink together at said nightclubs, and their parents would not be happy about it because they frowned upon alcohol (pretty ironic considering what Joe Sr. was doing).

Jack (especially early in his life) dated girls that were mostly set up for him by Kick. The most prominent was Charlotte McDonnell and Inga Arvad. If Kick didn't like one of Jack's girlfriends, he'd actually break up with them.

Kick wrote to her parents: "Tell Jack not to get married for a long time. I'll keep house for him".

Kick hated attending Convent school and was super depressed about it, and in her letters she always talked about how she looked forward to spending the summer with Jack (and Lem) the most because she found him the most fun out of her siblings.

Jack would write Kick "amusing letters" to cheer her up at Convent school because he knew she was sad and needed cheering up. Joe Sr. wrote this letter to Jack about it: "She really thinks you are a great fellow. She has a love and devotion to you that you should be very proud to have deserved. She thinks you are quite the grandest fellow that ever lived and your letters furnish her most of her laughs in the Convent"

He'd also send her gifts all the time, like jigsaw puzzles while she was at the Convent

When Kick lived in Washington, her, Jack, Inga and other friends would have the same dinner every day: steak, peas, carrots, and ice cream. Inga also said they'd play touch football in Kick's apartment's living room.

When Jack and Lem came back from their Europe trip in 1937, they were met at the ship dock by Kick. Jack wrote about a funny incident that happened when they came back with a bunch of grouse that they'd brought back from shooting in England: "We carefully turned our grouse over to [Kathleen] for safe keeping while we went through customs—I remember they weren’t looking too good. When we next saw Kathleen, she didn’t have the grouse. She said the odor was more than she could stand and had thrown them off the dock.” The boys were furious.

When Jack got very ill and was sent to Florida to recover, Kick tried cheering him up by telling him that all the girls were asking about him and that they'd called him "Jack Kennedy the cutest thing"

Kick actually gave JFK his leather bound journal which he used to document his 1937 trip to Europe (and it went up for auction a couple of years ago)

In 1936, Kick went to "The Cotton Club" in New York with Jack and Lem, and Joe Sr. was furious about it when he found out because it was a shady nightclub that allegedly had mafia connections.

When they moved to England, Kick's friends noticed that all she did was talk about Jack. When she introduced her friends to him, they actually called Jack and Kick "the Kennedy twins" because of how similar they looked/acted and they practically finished each others sentences.

They apparently had a habit of saying "terrific" a lot for some reason lol. One of their friends who was at dinner with both of them wrote that their conversation was basically "a terrific day, a terrific movie, terrific this, terrific that, everything was terrific."

When Jack wrote "Why England Slept", Kick helped him with sending out signed copies of his book.

Both Jack and Kick were described as emotionally cold, which they believed was a result of their upbringing. However, after Billy (Kick's husband) was killed in the war, Jack met Kick at the airport (after not seeing each other for 2 years) and she "ran into his arms and wept".

Jack stayed awake the entire night with Kick while she talked to him about Billy. He later described it as the worst night of his life.

When Kick died in a plane crash, Jack asked if the body was confirmed to be hers. Once his father had confirmed it, Jack openly wept which was incredibly rare for him.

Jack couldn't attend Kick's funeral. He got all the way to the airport and at the last minute turned back.

He made sure to visit her grave during his 1963 trip to Europe as president, despite having a very busy schedule. He visited her grave in June of 1963, just 5 months before his death.

My ranking of all the scenes in the outsiders because I can. To be very clear, I fucking love all of these scenes more than my own life, so this is very much. Just like which scenes am I most brain rotted over, ya know? Also this is specifically the dialogue and less the special affects cuz thats just easier. I fear I yapped too much with this but whatever

Final brothers scene (uhhh what more do I need to say. One of the most heartbreaking and well written scenes ever. the “I love you ponyboy” moment alone puts it at number one)

Break up scene (this is mostly because of how cherry and bob play off of each other differently each night, and because I have it memorized, and it has my favorite line in the show, “eat shit marcia”)

Dally harassment scene (guys I just love Marcia and she’s so iconic in this. “Sonnets are poems!!” is responsible for 99% why its so high up)

Stay gold scene (the guitar in the background. The poem. “Do I look like Julie Andrews?” 10/10 no notes)

Bedroom scene (GUYS its just the way soda cares about ponyboy so much and is asking him about his book and he tries to comfort him, but sodas also deflecting about how much pain he’s in and GAH its so incredible and says so much about soda)

Pre riftr (literally just because its funny. “We should call the feds!” And “out” “where?” “in the world” LITERALLY PERFECTTTT)

Pre rumble (gay people. Thats kinda it tbh.)

Pony jumping (its just so silly and fun but scary and chet and trip get lines so I love it)

Johnny dally scene (the brothers ur honor. He has a Hershey bar!!)

Dally Darry argument (these poor guys. the heartbreaking truth about what dally is saying to Darry about not spending time with them and all that. Aughgsohe)

Pre ggah (we get introduced to the charactersss and they’re all so silly and aiosheur I just love it sm. So many great lines as well- “when I want my kid brother to tell me what to do with my other kid brother id ask you- kid brother” and “you used to keep your hair greased 24/7” and just everything. I love them ur honor.)

Dally church scene (SURVIVE AND MOVE ON)

Pre faft (such an incredible and sweet scene its just very short so I feel like I can’t place it higher, but godddddd I love it so dearly)

Pony Cherry drive in convo (I just love this scene. I kinda want to place it higher just for “im generally an artistic person” and also I quote the stuff about sunsets every time I see one)

Johnny death scene (fightings no good… we could get along without anyone but Johnny… thats what you get for trying to help people you little punk… pony saying “no no no no no no no”…. Its so good. However again its pretty short.)

Pre hopeless war (its very short and sweet and sad. Johnny not being able to feel his legs and pony yelling at cherry for dishing out ‘charity’ gah im unwell)

Bob death scene (its mostly about the visuals of it and theres not much dialogue so sadly its going at the bottom- if we were talking about visuals of it it’d be wayyy higher cuz holy shit its so good. Also shoutout to “you’re not even a person, and you’re never gonna be one either”

It’s Bunny Day in Mt. Komorebi, and the kids are excited. They hunt for eggs once they’ve finished their homework while Riley makes a ham dinner. They hum cheerfully as they put the pan into the pre-heated oven, and Stephanie walks over to them. “Hey Ri, that ham smells good already.” She says and Riley grins. “Thanks baby, I’m trying out this new recipe I saw on Simtok. It says to use herbs and such to add flavor and I’m hoping the kids will like it.” They say as they turn the temperature a bit lower. “They will, they love your cooking. And I love anything you make but especially the Okonomiyaki you made for our second date.” She says, and Riley’s eyes soften. “I remember that, just the two of us in my small apartment kitchen and how we joked about some random tv shows and movies.” They say, and Stephanie nods. “Me too, I especially remember how you woohooed me on your counter a while after that,” she says casually and Riley blushes before winking at her. “Well, I had to have my dinner and dessert.” They say, and Stephanie blushes this time.

The kids rush inside, and Stephanie switches subjects. “So, I’ve booked our flight to Tomarang for next Saturday, we just have to make sure the kids pack before then.” She says and Riley nods. “Okay, I’ll help Ru pack his toys and clothes the day before and you help Nancy.” They say, and Stephanie nods before grinning. “I’m excited to see Tomarang, and to visit Sophie.” She says and Riley hums in agreement. “Me too, I can’t wait to see my baby sis and try out all the amazing Tomarani food. We’ll have to go to the night market with the kids, I want them to experience that with us, and visit the tiger sanctuary for sure.” They say. “Yeah, plus I want to spend some time, just the two of us. I talked to Sophie and she said she’ll watch the kids for one night at her place. They can have a fun sleepover at auntie’s place while you and I have our own fun in the rental.” Stephanie adds in a flirtatious tone, and Riley grins. “Oh okay, I’ll look forward to that too,” they say in the same tone.

Stephanie gets called over by Haruo, and she kisses Riley’s cheek before heading over to see what he needs. Riley lets the ham cook, and they head to the computer to look up Tomarani locations they’d want to see on a visit. They’re joined by Nancy, who grins before asking. “Ren, can I ask Alex out when I’m 14 next year?” Riley nods, feeling that same wistful pang that their daughter is growing up. “Sure nooboo, but can mom and I meet them first?” They ask. “Okay, but you’ll like them a lot. They’re cool and creative and funny and cute,” she rambles before blushing as Riley gives her a teasing look. “Anyway, I’ll invite Alex over soon and introduce them to you and mom, just be cool okay?” Nancy says. “Don’t worry Nan, I’m cool as heck.” Riley assures her and Nancy snorts. “Rennnn,” She grumbles good naturedly but she laughs too.

Thinking about the Ian/Ellie/Ian reunion through a romantic lens. Spending decades trying to convince themselves that they didn’t miss each other and then they meet up and it’s like?? Alan and Ellie are already gazing at each other like long-lost lovers. When they walk into Ian’s lecture, he pauses and looks like his world has just shifted on its axis. Ellie and Ian always had something going on between them but now Alan’s realizing that his own feelings for Ian are maybe less platonic than he thought. And then later they’re all bickering lovingly like they’ve been married for years. I’m unwell

Something I noticed in MLPFIM

So! I, along with probably a lot of you reading this, have previously seen or at least heard of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. It’s probably the most well-known version of mlp yet! I used to adore the little collector’s toys and I begged my mom to get me to jelly-like squishy chibi toys as well, but I was never an avid watcher of the show. The episode with the Medusa chicken and Fluttershy’s death glare scared me out of watching it… Yeah I was a pretty meek kid lmao

But from time to time I do like to watch these mlp compilation vids because honestly they’re hilarious and are just a great blast to the past. And so I was just minding my business, watching one of them, when all of a sudden… This happened.

This but with Rainbow Dash takes place right after Fluttershy runs away from the flight training montage that her bestie wanted to shove her into. This montage was important to Rainbow and Fluttershy just… Left her there. Alone. And the emotions she conveys are so raw and shockingly real for a kid’s show! Let’s go through!

First, shock. Shock at being turned down by Fluttershy of all people. Shock at the fact she cried just from a couple bullies. Shock at the way she practically screamed at her! Shock at the way Fluttershy ran for her life away from Rainbow, like she’d been stung and couldn’t be healed.

Next, longing. Reaching out her hoof, begging Fluttershy to come back. Wanting her, needing her, and yet unable to do anything.

Then comes pain. Rainbow knows she fucked up, understands that this kind of thing isn’t Fluttershy’s style and that she practically forced the girl into this, but it’s overall for her own good, right…? Rainbow shuts her eyes and she tries to grasp the situation, tries to understand where she went wrong, and how she made it worse.

Then, anger. Rainbow is angry now, kicking up dirt and silently cursing out her friend for abandoning the mission, for leaving her and the rest of the Pegasi in such a state. She’s pissed at the world and just needs things to go better!

She then cringes, baffled at the fact that she just cursed out Fluttershy of all people! How could she do that to her friend, her best friend!? How could Rainbow Dash hurt Fluttershy like that…?

And then finally… Shame. Rainbow is ashamed with herself and her actions, ashamed at how she pushed her friend too far. It was for the sake of literally everypony else, but what good was saving an entire species if you can’t even make your friend feel right…? What good is saving yourself if you can’t even save the ones you hold dear…? So Rainbow ends up walking away in shame, guilt pooling in her eyes.

This little tantrum of sorts we see Rainbow go through is so… Just… It’s so palpable! I never expected to see this in a show about fuccin ponies and rainbows and friendship! But I mean what did I expect we see Twilight become a princess one season later and then see a goddamn headless horse or whatever tf the red guy is called take over the entire world. Idk why I’m surprised.
