hi. vore on main. no that's it that's the post this is straight up genuinely and unironically voreposting on main. mostly just a lot of cutsey dumb goofy shit, but monsterfucker brain did get ahold of me for a bit there so there's also a handful that are uhhhh Spicy. nothing explicit, but like, It's Vore Dude, so if you look under the cut that is YOUR problem ok? ok.

ok listen before i move on i have to put it out there look i KNOW i drew the funny rat skeleton comic with this guy but that was ONLY because it was funny. thats not my real belief, he doesn't have any organs at all he is just a sack of gunk. he is harmless. it's basically just the same inside as on the outside but slightly more damp since it's not exposed to air to give him that drier 'skin' layer.

also i already typed this out in my friendserver so im pasting it here now too. my stance on fp re: horniness is i really can't see him as a 'sexual' being, per se, especially with how non-biological he is, but also he really really really likes physical intimacy so if you are giving him permission to be weird and touchy on you in any context, let alone one both parties would enjoy, i mean. he's not gonna say no. this Could be about sex or w/e if someone wanted to fuck him but more relevantly here yeah it's about vore. i think that's categorically about the Most you can be touchy/in contact on a guy so yeah thats always what he's going to go for. tangentially he just thinks it's fun to make peppino* flustered so since pep does not particularly Enjoy being vored, fp has other options to Get Up In There for something else pep might enjoy *spoken generally for whatever theoretical partner, just peppino is the one that's readily available here and fun to use

also while im here id like to say. no peppino is not a monsterfucker are you kidding me. he is not going to ever go out of his way for weirdness. weirdness really has a way of finding him though, and he's shockingly tolerant of it as long as he doesn't clock it as a threat. anyway what im saying is if you got a big clingy beast around and al up in your business all the time shits just gonna kinda Happen sometimes. he's certainly not going to Encourage it but if hes already in that situation, might as well at that point.

Question about the AROFAM Au. How does the Day Of Unity and S3 special's plot line work given. . .well, everything.

Simple! I had to change basically everything.

obviously due to the nature of the au, and trying to keep everyone mostly still in character, the day of unity would make no sense at all to exist, so it...doesn't.

instead, in order to create a plot similar to the show to hit a lot of similar beats, i took the titan trappers and make them into more prominent characters/villains

so instead of a day of unity, it's their ritual to sacrifice king to free the collector, after years of earning their way to power and finding a new disk (The disk Philip was hiding in his basement)

and instead of the plan to be to stop the draining spell, it's a plan to save king's life and prevent the collector from being released (Collector has been convinced alongside Lilith they're going to save them, have no idea king would die for it)

also also, Philip, due to breaking his deal with collector and making him mad, is just...terrified of him, so everyone is under the impression freeing him will cause massive consequences

day of unity instead involved infiltrating the ritual space and getting both king and the disk out from under the trapper's noses, philip and caleb are going after the disk, kiki and steve were in charge of going for king.

Everyone else was there to make the escape and heist easy

(Yes this became a heist episode, which i think is funny payoff for the raiding these guys do in this au, truly the ultimate raid)

and yes, that does change other episodes like Edge of the World, tho they do still find out king is a titan in that so that plot point sticks.

you still have king releasing collector, but the context is slightly different and there are plenty unique heartbreaking elements to this au's version of KT.

Like Philip and Caleb getting into a fight right before being separated in different dimensions due to philip sacrificing himself to stay on the isles to face his punishment (Which obviously leads to different dynamics in s3 where king is hanging out alongside philip and Lilith whilst eda and luz are stuck on earth)

s3 has the unique thing of having caleb be stuck with all the kids on earth after being gone so long, seeing how things have changed and coping with the regret of his brother being gone after he promised they'd never seperate like that again.

darius and eber are there of course so they all gotta manage the kids and get to all catch up, while eda is out there in beast form.

all the stuff with camilia seeing luz, which is a pile of angst in itself, especially since she and caleb become grief friends and he appears to be harboring her missing daughter.

the whole rescue mission to get philip back in FTF, reuniting with kiki whose now the rebel leader actually, eda and lilith uniting after so many dang years, and the finale that's more about talking down the collector and befriending him rather then a big old fight.

and that's just me summarizing stuff, there's a lot i'm just skimming over

but as you can tell, i changed stuff, added new and unique stuff, and put a lot of thought into still making it a swap au whilst making things still unique.

2024 Book Review #63 – Saga, Book 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

I first starting reading Saga a literal decade ago (I think literally because Rachel Maddow recommended it on a podcast? Which, god, what a 2010s sort of sentence). I absolutely loved it at the time, and read intermittently until it went on an extended hiatus. So extended, in fact, that I’d kind of assumed the series was dead and only learned it had restarted a couple years ago quite recently. So, seeing as I am now in need of a new comic, I figured I’d restart from scratch and work up to the new stuff. It holds up! (and the letters to the editor are a fascinating cultural time capsule).

The series follows Alana and Marko – star-crossed lovers who eloped together from opposite sides of a brutal and galaxy-spanning race-war – and their newborn daughter Hazel as they evade the numerous forces trying to see them all murdered before than can become an embarrassment. The first arcs of this are most one long blind panic finding transport off-world and only afterwards deciding upon a destination, it’s only in the last volume (with the pointed assistance of Marko’s parents) that there’s any thought of finding stability or a status quo. Along the way, both the family and the series collect a wider and wider circle of colourful hangers-on – and the narrative begins switching focus to give real narrative focus and character arcs to three different groups that find themselves tracking down the family. None of them are particularly happy lives, but they all make for very compelling drama.

The best way to describe this is I suppose a ‘science-fantasy dramedy’. Which sounds viscerally and violently wrong, but the comedy and the drama are both absolutely vital motors keeping it running. And this is the incredibly rare work that actually makes them work together seamlessly. It’s an incredibly vulgar book in a dozen different ways, but the characters are all plausible and compelling, and once you have granted the slightly contrived explanation for why both governments care so immensely about Marko and Alana the plot coheres enough to never take you out of the story. Which is helped by the pacing being fast and tight in a way that always kept me (at least) engaged. I do deduct points for the wise author character basically looking directly at the fourth wall and saying ‘and the profound message of my work is-’ (moreso because said message is truly eye-roll-inducingly vapid and dumb, granted), but that’s easily forgiven.

The comedy was...more hit-or-miss. There is a lot of clever wordplay and funny, high-context character beats. There are also a bunch of just absurd or striking visual gags or background details that really work. And then there is the giant with balls so big and hideous that they almost crush someone to death.

It’s been said (by people with far more knowledge of and investment in the medium than I) that mainstream American comics are these incredible wells of repressed sexuality – full of physically implausible women dressed for a burlesque and with panels framed by a particularly sleazy tabloid photographer, but oddly coy about actually talking about or including sex itself. Which tracks with my limited experiences, but might just be bullshit I don’t know – what I do know is that Saga is basically the exact opposite of that.

Which is to say, this is an intensely sexual comic, but an atypically non-sexualized one. Which is a bit of an odd distinction, but compare how Saga shows an uncensored orgy and how any given artist at a con draws prints of Power Girl and you’ll get the idea. This is on balance a very good thing, occasional junior-high-level visual gags and gross-out humour aside. Sex is a part of life, of varying importance to different people but something present and shaping the world regardless (and Marko and Alana very much do believably seem like a couple that’d have a kid together without a huge excess of planning beforehand).

Aside from Alana, Marko and Hazel (and hangers-on including a phantom babysitter and Marko’s somewhat-approving parents), the various groups hunting them get a really surprising amount of page-count – The Will, Lying Cat and Prince Robot are all basically main characters in their own right, and Gwendolyn, Sophie, Upsher and Doff aren’t fair off. It’s an immense accomplishment that a series of 28-30 page comics manages to bounce between so many characters and always keep them all moving, both physically and emotionally. (The character work and character design of this is worth at least the price of admission on its own, really).

The thing that most makes me love the comic is, I think, how it will introduce characters and tell you explicitly they are murderers and monsters – and then show them struggling and risking their life out of guilt or altruism or love, show them falling for people and being part of rich social worlds, show the trauma and baggage and shitty relationships that made them who they are. Make you care about them and root for them, want them to accomplish what they need to to get a happy ending – and then have them destroy something or kill someone else you’ve grown to care about. Aside from the really obvious stuff about intolerance and war, it’s one of the most consistent themes of the series that monsters have lives and loves too, which is frankly something I wish more stories (and just, people) took to heart.

The setting is glorious, in a ‘mural on the side of a stoner van’ sort of way. Laser guns and spaceships that are giant flying trees, a kingdom of robots with TVs for heads and the planet-sized egg of what’s basically a living black hole – nothing that’s designed to bear scrutiny, but endlessly inventive and evocative and clearly very fun for the artist.

The most striking thing is that – even for now, let alone fucking 2012 – the comic is just incredibly diverse. Even leaving aside the really weird or cartoonishy exaggerated species there’s more diversity in body type and silhouette in one crowd scene of Saga than in most Hollywood movies I’ve seen recently. Same with race and sexuality—the whole setting seeming functionally queernorm except for the one couple whose character arc requires that they come from Planet Homophobia is slightly eyeroll inducing but again, compared to the early 2010s norm it’s soaring so high above the bar you can’t even see the ground.

So yeah, have fallen entirely back in love with it. Can’t wait to start in on Book Two.

"Alrighty, Sasha taken a deep breath- on 3 I'll insert the needle." You said softly to the tall blonde Russian man sitting in the chair in your medical office. You would have assumed that Sova- the team's hunter, someone who has ear piercings and fights with guns on the daily would be more than okay with needles- but apparently not.

"Wait- wait please-" Sova said, pulling his arm back for the fifth time already that morning. You let out a sigh- looking at the male. "Sova for the love of- I am just trying to draw blood to do your usual testing. Please, it'll only take a minute -" you repeated once more to Sasha, trying to still stay patient with the man.

"I just really don't like needles-" he started once again- a sentence he has already said multiple times during multiple visits. "I know, but keep this up and you ain't gonna like me, either." You retorted- your voice stern as you waited for him to place down his arm once more onto the arm rest. "I'm sorry... Okay- okay I'll try-" And once more, his arm was lowered onto the armrest of the chair, as relaxed as he possibly could with his stress.

This time you decided to try a different approach - clearly trying to just 'get it over with' wasn't going to be the right method- and you would be lying if you weren't just slightly losing patience. "Say Sasha..." You started off- trying to think of something on the spot- your idea was to ask him a question that would take him by surprise a bit to keep him distracted . "What's your sexual orientation?"

It was definitely a random question- especially under the context that you were just trying to draw blood. And judging by the confused and slightly flustered look on his face- you could already assume two things. One- your plan to catch him off guard was already working; and two - this man definitely wasn't straight with the look he just had.

Your lips curled up in a small smile - Sova's momentary silence was a bit comical. He was looking at you with a face that just screamed 'how did you know??'- and it was funny to see the hunter so out of it. But in a way, his current reaction did send a small wave of relief through you; little did he know that you have had a crush on him since the first time he walked into this office.

"Cat got your tongue? Out with it Sasha." You asked him once more, now grinning as you leaned forward a bit, speaking in a slightly teasing tone. There was a hint of rosy appearing on the Russian man's cheeks, averting his gaze from you. "Uh... Well-" He started, stumbling a bit on his words.

"I'm Bisexual -" Sasha started to respond, a bit shyly as he was just slowly regaining his composure. But he was interrupted by you finally pricking him with the god damned needle, letting out a sigh of relief now that you could finally start drawing blood. His face paled slightly when he looked down at his arm in realization - the only flaw of your plan you forgot to think about.

"Sasha look at me." You spoke up- trying to divert his attention once more. But the man seemed more focused on the needle in his arm at the moment, face pale as he took deep breaths. "Sasha if you don't stop looking at the needle I'll kiss you-" you tried once more- yet again hoping the 'shock him out of it technique' would work.

"What-" His head snapped up to look at you, his bleu eyes widened as color returned to his face a bit, cheeks once again tinting rosy. "Wait what-!?" He repeated once more as if processing the words with a slight delay. A chuckle escaped your lips, glancing down to the blood vial that was nearly full. You removed the needle from Sova's arm, setting aside the vile and disposing of the needle.

"Good job Sasha, it only took... 20 minutes to draw blood!" You exclaimed to him as you briefly checked the clock, getting up to store the blood appropriately to be able to test it later on. Once all that was taken care of, you took a band aid from a nearby jar- walking back over to the Hunter to apply the Band-Aid.

"Sorry about that- but wait wait; why did you even mention a kiss-" His mind was obviously still stuck onto the 'threat' you had made to keep his mind and eyes off the needle in his arm. You looked up at him, now realizing that the small joke threat might back fire a bit on your true feelings - not leaving you much options now.

"Uh... Well I mean- who wouldn't kiss you-" This time it was your turn to be a bit flustered; realizing you might simply have just dug your grave on this one. "You're good looking and all-" you continue - mentally face palming over your blabber that just seemed to out you so bad at the moment. You were praying that for once, the man was going to be oblivious about your words.

"(Y-N); you realize not everyone would kiss the same gender-" Sasha started in a slight deadpan- and you couldn't figure out whether you should laugh on how the man- this agent who's main job and specialty was recon and information extraction - somehow missed the entire point but figured out the whole side point.

He was figuring out the you most definitely weren't straight - which wasn't necessarily a hidden fact- you had a small pride flag in your pen holder for crying out loud- but somehow missed the MUCH more obvious fact that you liked him. "Yea I know that, Sasha. But I thought it was obvious I was most definitely not straight-" you said with a chuckle, finger pointing at said pride flag as support to your words.

Sova's eyes trailed over to the flag- quieting down as he finally realized that obvious fact- a small chuckle escaping him as he realized. "Oh- apologies - .. guess I didn't really notice the... Decorations in your office before." He said a bit sheepishly, a small smile making it's way onto his face. He was finally relaxing a bit, finally de-stressing from the whole needle thing.

"Yeah, because you're too busy being terrified of needles when you come in-" you retorted teasingly, heading to the nearby mini fridge in your office to grab a juice box. "Anyways, here, sip on this while you're still here- getting your blood sugar up will help with any dizzy feeling." You said to him as you handed the carton of apple juice his way.

"I think you're sweet enough to keep my blood sugar up-" Sasha retorted, taking the apple juice from you to take a sip, keeping a small smile on his face as he threw out the pick-up line so casually to you. It was definitely unexpected - and you were definitely getting a taste of your own medicine from earlier.

"That was corny-" you blurted out, turning your head away as you felt your face heating up slightly- arms crossing over your chest. "Says the guy who offered a kiss." Sasha replied with a small grin, sipping on the juice as he watched you become flustered. "I was trying to distract you!" You retorted-turning to face him once more with a red face.

"Well you did successfully distract me... But also gave me false hope~" Sova said with a chuckle - his grin never leaving him face as he spoke, enjoying your flustered look way too much now that tables were turning in his favor. "False hope? What, did you want me to kiss you that badly?" You finally replied, trying to keep your cool even though your face was redder than a tomato. The Russian man simply shrugged, playing the nonchalant card. "I mean... If the offer stands, I wouldn't refuse it."

"I mean -.." you started to speak - but once more feeling a bit flustered. Your damn crush was asking for a kiss, and here you were just blushing like a teenage girl as he openly flirted with you. The situation turn was sudden but not unwelcome. You just didn't realize how lost in thought you had gotten until you felt Sasha's hand on your chin, and just now realizing that had gotten up and was standing super close-

"I definitely would love a kiss from the cutest boy in HQ- if you're okay with it, of course." Sova said, his voice lowered and sounding much more intimate as he spoke; leaning in close but not quite going all the way as he waited on your response, waiting for your 'go' to do anything.

An answer the came in actions instead of words, wrapping your arms around his broad shoulders as you pulled him closer - bodies pressed together. Your face was flushed and you were doing your best to not get shy now- but Sova wasn't going to give you any time to doubt. His lips crashed into yours, feeling his freshly shaved stubble brush against your face as you melted into the kiss, the much larger man holding you tight as you shared the moment of intimacy.

After a few moments, you pulled away-but remained close, still holding Sasha as he started down at you with a warm smile. "I'll start to come visit more regularly if that means I get to do this after appointments." Sasha said smoothly, the hand on your chin moving your gently pinch your cheek. "Maybe I'll finally have the courage to catch up on my vaccines-" Sasha continued , his tone light and teasing.

"Wait- wait how long have you offput your vaccines-" you asked him, blinking a few times as you snapped back to reality; it was your job after all when it came to anything medical related. "ERM-... That's a discussion for a different appointment -" Sasha started off, realizing that he may have made a slight mistake by mentioning that- but of course you were hard headed.

"Alexander Sasha Novikov - you sit your pretty ass back down in that chair. You aren't getting out of this one-"

I don't get loss.

I don’t get loss. The meme, I mean. The four panels with the lines in them. I’ve seen it plenty of times, but it confuses and befuddles me.

See, I know loss (the meme) from way back. I saw the original CAD comic in my RSS reader the day it first came out. I also saw the (now deleted) associated blog post, as well as the reactions e.g. by Cyanide and Happiness (which references said blog post) or Yahtzee Croshaw. It was a really big deal at the time, everybody who was into online comics had an opinion. 

And at most a month later I stopped thinking about it, and assumed everyone else had as well. Then many years later I was reintroduced to the meme, in its modern form, and I feel like knowing the context has ruined it for me. Posting the hieroglyphics version does not engage with the original controversy at all. It says nothing about Tim Buckley’s creepiness, about how out of left field it was, the reactions to it, anything. It’s just a thing people reproduce to signify group membership, just like… okay, all memes if we’re perfectly honest. I breadstick out here to have a good time and I’m feeling so color theory now. 

I guess there is no explanation, not really, the internet moves in mysterious ways and memes have always largely developed regardless of their context, just pure form giving meaning on its own. I just find this one so weird because I was there, and I know the context. 

Speaking of the context, here’s a highly controversial take: I don’t think the original comic was that bad. 

There’s definitely a valid critique that it centers the story of the man instead of the one who actually has the miscarriage (I can’t find that post again but it was a thing in the discussion back then). But the idea that it’s inherently wrong and bad to talk about heavy topics in video game webcomics? I don’t buy that. 

Now, a lot of that is because of context, again. Of all the video game webcomics, CAD was always the worst, not very funny, overly violent, kind of stupid. And its creator Tim Buckley has a horrid reputation. Sure, some of that is the usual “he banned me from his forum just because I said he sucks, how dare he!” whining that is so common on the internet even to this day (aside: If you ever complain about getting banned or blocked by someone, I will always assume you deserve it. Act like a grown-up and accept that some people just don’t want to talk to you). But it’s clear that he also did some really sketchy and inappropriate things, and to that extent his bad reputation seems well earned.

Putting a heavy topic in the middle of that mess was jarring, no doubt, but given the context that did feel a bit like the point. I think it could have worked if it had been a long term pivot to a generally more serious tone. It’s not like “more serious than CAD” was a high bar to clear. And a slow pivot to being slightly more serious is hardly unheard of, consider e.g. Scott Kurtz’s PvP.

However, Tim Buckley saw the reaction and decided to never do anything serious ever again, which helped cement this as the single worst comic ever, even though the vast majority of CAD’s archives are objectively worse in every single metric. And based on that reputation we get the loss meme of today.

And it just keeps weirding me out.

A Review of Gale Character Ai (Pt.2)

Comparing notes with @senualothbrok , we find that each chats' Gale behaves a bit differently. Some more verbose, some more romantic, some are rather too sassy lol. Which is normal, because the Ai atunes to your personal interest.

Most importantly, we both think that Gale Ai feels more like Early Access Gale, who is more rizzard and less dorky. Gale Ai is at times soooo smooth that it feels more like Astarion lol

According to the character description the Ai provided, Gale Ai is more neutral than good; and at times selfish. I don't really see this during my own interactions, but do keep in mind.

"It means a great deal to me to hear you say that. And you... you changed my world too." For a moment there was nothing to be heard but the sound of their combined breaths.

-Btw I never indicated I identified as female. It was just like that.

//"I love you" I whispered, "it's an honor to meet you. I never had a home, but you gave me one."

-I don't know where the mention of food comes from. Does picnic mean food??

//"Ooh definitely, anything to get you away from your working desk. You have been hunching there for too long." I said in mock disapproval. "What would you like to eat? I can prepare."

>>He chuckled and shook his head at her words. Leave it to her to find a way to get him out of his study. The thought of a picnic was admittedly appealing, and a change in scenery would do him good. "Surprise me, darling. I trust you know my tastes well enough."

-Like, the Ai does require you to direct the story, so a lot of times you have to actively be creative and push the stories forward.

//"Then come with me." I winked, hold his hand and lead him into the portal I prepared

The first image is perfection. The way the Joker clings on to him. The way Joker's fingertips touching Batman's upper arm. The way the Joker mouth hangs slightly open in excitement, and the way his big innocent eyes are. This picture reminds me of some kind of fanfiction I've read, and lemme tell you i read hundreds. The whole scene is just gorgeous, also i would like to point out that Batman said 'my monkey' Now i know a lot of people caught onto it already, but this had to be one of my favorite scenes in the comic. He says 'my monkey on my back' Not i got a monkey on my back, not i got this monkey on my back, but he used the words my monkey. the Joker's his monkey ? its kind of laughable and sort of cute. The word my is pretty cute. Monkey isn't the kindest thing, but it does show that hate and love thing. Batman always saw the Joker as his to be honest. He used the words a little too much. The Joker's mine. " I'll handle the Joker. Stay back he's mine." Theses words mean a whole lot, but this is in a nicer context, and at first it caught me off guard, because if you hate someone. You're not going say my man, or my gorilla, or anything. You're going say I've got a gorilla on my back, or a gorilla on my back. he also ends it with a heh. heh is used for i mean like that's kind of funny, or questioning. Was he questioning himself? Because i would. This comic is amazing. I really need to stop running my mouth

Follow on to the “out of context panels” thing - sometimes the issue is that those panels still ARE special, if you’ve read the whole story and know the entire context. But you can’t post all that context, and equally you can’t expect anyone else to import all the same meaning when they look at it.

So to the original poster of the moment encapsulates everything they feel about the run/storyline. To someone who hasn’t read all the same things, they can only interpret based on what is presented. And especially when you’re posting the hard-won emotional moment after a long story, people without the context just start riffing off that and reposting it, without the background of how it was achieved.

Let’s take my favourite panels of Red Robin #12.

Now I love these panels, but I know perfectly well the reasons why I personally love them are not the reasons they tend to get shared around fandom. (For one, Ra’s’ kick is rarely/never posted) The focus tends to be on the “I saved the people he loved” text boxes.

That’s not why I love them, however.

To me, it’s the replay of the epilogue of Resurrection of Ra’s al Ghul from, where Yost and To explicitly go ‘you got that we reran this exact story, right? Right?’ to their audience, as they’re explicitly referencing THIS page from ‘Tec 840:

Ra’s kicked Tim out a window the exact same way that Bruce kicked Ra’s. Both Ra’s and Tim are fighting with BRUCE - they’re just fighting him by proxy with each other.

If you are unaware this happened, you miss SO MUCH of what’s happening in those two pages of RR 12. They’re even framed similarly.

Also using the context of this, there’s a fascinating parallel that wasn’t anticipated by the creators, but is extremely useful for arguing against fanon.

In ‘Tec 840, the next time we see Ra’s, he’s unconscious in Arkham Asylum.

In RR 12, we get the Dick catch and the “you’re my brother” scene in the Cave.

Given the mirroring, do I really have to spell out the implication that Dick doesn’t think Tim should be in Arkham? No?

But if I just posted the catch with the caption “Dick doesn’t think Tim should be in Arkham” nobody would understand what I meant.

Or here’s another example of “import your own context” - this panel from Streets of Gotham #21 is hysterically funny to me, someone who has read all of Dini’s ‘Tec and Streets of Gotham run. It’s the payoff of a whole HOST of Hush stories and several others.

I adore how STUPID it is.

To someone without that context, there’s a good chance they don’t even accurately identify who is Tommy Elliot here.

The panels you see circulating will always be slightly out of context because you can never predict that you’ve read the exact same set of relevant comics as another person. The best you can do is point people to what implication you’re taking from the scene (and hope all the sweet hugs don’t get reposted completely stripped of context as they inevitably will be)

Things Read 2023

I thought it'd be kind of fun to do a little collage of some of the things read in 2023. Because pictures entice and maybe one of these will look interesting to you, and maybe I'll just feel slightly more motivated the next time I try to read something.

First row: Easiest novels to read, I highly recommend if you're a beginner. 秃秃大王, 大林和小林, and 笑猫日记 (any book in this series).

Second row: also fairly easy, though maybe not for total beginners? (Unless you want). 小王子 (which was the first non-graded reader novel I read in chinese, and in retrospect I wish I'd started with the books above instead... but this was still readable as a beginner, I read it in paper form to stop myself from looking words up and it was still a doable read), 盗墓笔记重启 （幽默漫画）a very cute domestic side stories for dmbj set during chongqi, extremely easy to read if you know the character names. 他们的故事/Their Story by Tan Jiu, a cute slice of life girls falling in love story, it's setting makes it quite easy to read.

Third row: manhua that are a bit harder, but still probably very readable if you're not looking to work hard and sink into a novel. 19天, bl and funny af, set in school so common vocab but the jokes land better as u understand more, I also love the art. 破云  1 and 2, they're kind of hard to read in that this manhua has a page just for niche word definitions in the front, but it's easier to read than the novel it's based on. I thought it was a fun way to enjoy the story while I waded much more slowly through the novel version. Similarly, I've been reading the 烈火浇愁 manhua (not pictured) on and off since I can get further in the manhua than the novel before running out of steam. There's a lot of manhua on the Bilibili Comics app, and that's definitely an option if you're into manhua too if you like a novel premise but aren't quite ready to tackle the novel (or want to check out the manhua too). Also, sometimes on bilibili.com you can find videos of manhua with voice acting and music, which can be nice.

Fourth row: some novels I'm still in progress with lol. I read 盗墓笔记 books 1, 2, and half of 3 in 2023. I'm continuing along, and maybe eventually I'll get to sha hai. If you plan to read/watch more in the tomb raiding or supernatural genre anyway, I highly recommend reading. dmbj is not that hard to read, new words usually pop up early and then are repeated enough that you learn them within a few chapters, which makes the following chapters easier and easier. By the time I was through book 1, I switched from looking up unknown words to looking up no words and just guessing from context and it went fine. npss also writes in an easy style to read once you get used to a few wordings/slang. A lot of the words I learned from dmbj were helpful with other supernatural genre stuff I read, since I like to read that kind of stuff. 撒野, both harder than I thought it'd be and easier. It is very doable of a read as far as following the main idea of the plot, after you've read a few other novels (like row 1) or gotten comfortable with daily life words. It does some beautiful stuff though with the writing style, and detail, that's more noticeable upon re-reads. I've restarted this novel like 4 times because each time I picked it up again my reading skill had improved, and the writing felt different upon reading. If you can watch chinese shows with chinese subtitles you can read this without looking words up, but if you do encounter unknown words this was a novel I found the unknown words were frequently useful and worth learning. I'd say it's very approachable, it's just the chapters are quite long so it's always a painful reminder of how slow my reading speed is. It's about two teenage guys who meet and fall for each other, and it's also about their families and personal struggles and very character focused which I love. After this novel, I plan to check out the other novels by this author. And of course, still, 镇魂. Look, I keep reading the whole first arc, then taking a break, then re-reading the whole first arc. I need to stop being a perfectionist about understanding and catching every detail, and just move forward. I've read my print version about 2 times to the end of the sundial arc, and the web version about 2 times. I've yet again reached the end of the sundial arc as of December 2023, and hopefully I just move forward at this point. I wont say it's an 'easy' read, but I will say I picked up so much of my initial reading vocabulary from this and Tian Ya Ke, that priest's preferred writing vocabulary and particular way of phrasing sentences is more familiar to me than any other author's. So now I have a much easier time reading priest's other novels. And in the case of Zhen Hun, I know 98% of the words more or less on any given page. So yes, it's a bit silly I keep combing over to try and understand more details. (In my defense, I've been combing over the AUDIO my last read through, to try and get my listening vocabulary comprehension closer to my reading vocabulary level - I figured it was a good novel to do this with since I know nearly every word reading-wise in the sundial arc at this point). Anyway... when will I finish reading Zhen hun? Ask me when the last official english translation book is published. Because I'm waiting to read the english until I finish it in chinese first. So no doubt when the english is totally out I'll probably rush through anything I didn't finish so it's easier for me to compare. (You'd think I'd do that for Sha Po Lang and... lol you're not wrong... that's why I haven't started reading SPLs official english translation yet... I want to dig out my chinese print book and compare). Tldr: Zhen hun is one of the easier priest books to start with, all things considered. Or Tian Ya Ke. I started with both, and they're still easier reads to me than Dage and Sha Po Lang and Can Ci Pin.

Special mention:

I also read 2 pingxie fanfictions, 半夜衣寒 and 寒舍 by 夏灬安兰. The first story is shorter by far, both are around as easy to read as dmbj or a bit easier, and they're supernatural au in everyday life so a lot of the words are applicable to either the real world, or to books in genres like dmbj.

I also read/watched many a voice-acted manhua video on bilibili over the last year. Bilibili algorithm recommends me tons of bl, and supernatural mystery stuff, so I'd click on manhua compilation videos when bored and use the voice acting speed to get myself to read faster than I would if I were just reading the manhua in silence. I found a pretty cool horror manhua, but upon making this post I checked bilibili and the compilation I saved was deleted. If I find it again I'll post a link. It was a college student who just moved to the city, and he meets this ancient guy who may be a demon/guardian sort of thing, and the city is just full of haunting and awful deaths and misfortune going on. It was both scary and full of comedy, which was fun.

"Wait, why is Loki naked?!?!"

This is The Mighty Thor issue 359, originally published September 1985. I should preface this by saying I have absolutely zero context for this comic. It is the oldest comic, Loki-related or otherwise, that I have ever read in its entirety, so aside from any context provided by the author, I have no idea what happens before or after. My knowledge going into it is this: the cover is vaguely reminiscent of a couple pieces of fan art I've seen (that I do not have sources or screenshots of at the moment, I'm sorry): one, a slightly more harmonious sibling AU with Thor and Loki seemingly willingly kneeling at Hela's feet, and another where Hela says "Kneel before your queen," and Thor kneels at Loki's (in fem form) feet. Additionally, I know Lorelei, and I don't like her. I don't dislike her as much as I dislike her sister, but neither of them are my favorite. Finally, I skimmed this last weekend when I started getting fixated on Sigyn just to see if she was in it. While I don't think I saw her, Loki DOES NOT WHERE A SHIRT for MOST of the issue, and I am greatly distressed (hence the title). This is why I'm actually reading it. Let's get into it. (EDIT: Loki does not actually get all the way naked, but oh boy does he try to get as much skin passed the 80s censors as possible!)

Thor gets on his knees a lot in this comic. Also the service of Loki byline was a fucking lie. He's not kneeling to Loki on the cover but Lorelei. He speaks to his brother for five minutes and it's while he's threatening to smash his face in with Mjolnir.

Mace windu and anakin for the detailed character meme?

Mace:

What I like about them: He's got this incredibly strong moral core, and despite his fanon reputation, he's amazingly understanding about the things that are genuinely difficult to understand and come to terms with. Mace understands anger and Falling, yes, has struggled with these things even, but he's come through as one of the strongest, fairest, most respected Jedi in the Order, and he is... honestly every time I think about him and Obi-Wan reacting to Depa waking up from her post-Fall coma, I'm just like [jennyslate-drunkhistory-im-like-SCREAM.gif] about their understanding and forgiveness and listen he gets such a bad rap for being 'stern and unyielding' but his actions in canon are all so positive and his fanon reputation is entirely built on The Specific Delivery that GLucas insisted on for all the actors in TPM and just. [scream] I love him.

What I dislike about them: The comic where he lets Palpatine have access to Anakin at 12. It's not canon anymore but I don't Like it.

Favourite moment: His immediate response to Anakin telling him about Sidious. There wasn't any doubt, he just fully believed this admittedly unstable subordinate, because even if Anakin lies a lot and everyone knows (see: Padme situation), he fully believes that Anakin wouldn't lie about something as important as this. Runner up is Mace complimenting R2D2 in TCW.

Least favourite moment: Uhhhhh I don't have a least favorite moment, so to speak? I do hate his character design in TCW and '03, it's... I know everyone's features are exaggerated for the animation designs, but for him it feels as though the features exaggerated for Mace were kind of um. Riding the line of racism.

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more: I wish for more scenes where he and Anakin are alone together. I want to see one or both of them in a slightly negative situation, like injury or illness, and the other having to handle that. Both directions are good, in different ways. More generally, I want to see more one-on-one interactions between Mace and younger Jedi. I want to see those character dynamics! Show me Mace with Depa or Aayla or Ahsoka!

An interesting AU for this character: I'm always down for those "Mace survives RotS" AUs, they can be so good.

A crossover: Not counting the obligatory "Mace and Nick Fury have to interact" MCU crossovers? Hmmmm put him in Twilight. Just to see what happens.

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship): I don't really do a lot of Mace ships (just the time-travel one), but I really enjoy seeing Mace/Qui-Gon in fic.

Other ships? I did write Mace/Jaster recently for an event, and that was fun, but also funny since I'm open to Mace/Jango. I'm also, obviously, a fan of Mace/Anakin in a time-travel context.

BROTP: Depa (obviously) but also...

NOTP: I'm sorry but Ponds. The power/age difference bothers me and the character dynamic I imagine is much more Best Coworkers than anything romantic.

An assortment of headcanons! - Generally kept to short cuts and fades before he went with shaving. Not counting his padawan braid, I don't think he really experimented much with growing out his hair for braids or knots or locs. Googled a few haircuts for black men and I think a normal fade and 'the Duke' might be about the area I'd consider him in. Might have done some shorter locs (like two inches) or the like, but that's about it. - He 100% knows that Padme and Anakin are going at it like rabbits whenever they're in driving distance of each other. He does not know they're married, but he knows Padme's pregnant before Anakin does. - I want to say that he doesn't have any food allergies, but does have a topical allergy, like skin contact types? Maybe space eucalyptus.

Anakin:

What I like about them: Absolute disaster man. Wet cat energy. Gender as hell. Unhinged. So easy to save and push in a better direction. So easy to turn into a complete monster. Impossible to be boring.

What I dislike about them: Bro he killed babies.

Favourite moment: Bickering with Obi-Wan in the arena in AotC while not even noticing that Padme's being all competent behind him.

Least favourite moment: He murdered babies. So. The Tusken slaughter.

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more: Willing confession of the Tusken slaughter and submitting himself to the fallout without whining about it or continuing to try to justify it to himself.

An interesting AU for this character: I have dozens for him. Just. So many AUs about this lovable moron.

A crossover: Anakin commits a homicide in 1890s London and now Sherlock Holmes is trying to find him.

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship): Rexanidala, slight bias to Rexwalker.

-This is a heavy worldbuilding character-centric hero-villain crossover AU.

-Heart's species hunt to survive and will only eat humans (or sapient species in-general in crossover AUs) should they taste the flesh on one. This implies that (Villain) Heart has done this before.

-Everyone comes back when they die unless they truly want to die, the person's fine, don't worry, I don't like meaningless/excessive/comedic murder in my stories.

-This is not out-of-character for (Villain) Soul but he generally isn't really all that evil; he moreso just… doesn't care. Before the events of this story he had been stuck in a timeloop over two-hundred and forty times (yes, technically he's over two-thousand years old) so he just stopped caring about everything and subconsciously views everyone (somewhat less so Heart and Mind) as disposable even if he's no longer in the time loop and once something happens, it can't be undone. In the AU he's kind of like a Chaotic Neutral, "{everything is funny if you squint at it right}" who wreaks havoc and because he's the most powerful creature in the AU he can kinda just have his way, albeit he deep down does care.

-This is only slightly out-of-character for (Villain) Heart.

-The art commission person who was scammed is Mike from, uh, the stick figure comic. You know the one… the one with the red tendril-black stick figure, and the white one with the tie, and the girl in the poncho, the crown guy, the dommy mommy milf, the child who is entirely irrelevant in every AU I've ever made… yeah, I'm not saying the name of it as to not summon the fanbase, I absolutely hate its fandom and it's kinda sorta panic attack-inducing so… pretend you've never heard of him if you know who he is, m'kay?

-Also Mike and Heart are dating. Why? Because fuck you, that's why, they'd be GREAT together and I don't care if I'm the only one in the world who ships them, y'all are just LOSERS.

-Heart has a visor instead of a blindfold that changes display based on emotion and action. It is not mechanical, it is supernatural.

heya! one of my fav questions to ask smut writers - would the characters you write most would ever fuck a clone (or AU or time travel) of themselves? alt and slightly more fun question - would they be in a threesome w/ their clone (other) and their current partner?

This is such a funny question lmao. Strangely enough I've never actually thought about it, and now that I am there is a bunch of different ways i could interpret this. I write fanfic, my hobby is basically just overthinking into a word document. So anyway, please enjoy a far more in depth thought process into my three main girls than you were probably expecting. Also to preface, I'm going off of MCU canon rather than anything shippy or the way I have actually written them in fanfics (if you ask me again a month from now my thoughts will probably have changed, I am incredibly inconsistent with character opinions like this lol)

Maria:

Somehow, she was the first answer that came to mind. If you asked her straight up I think she'd say yes and follow through. Her reasoning would be that logically, who is going to know what she likes better than herself, plus she doesn't have to deal with all the social and emotional aspects of one night stands or relationships. It's efficient. Being the director of SHIELD doesn't make for a great sex life. As for a threesome, I think she'd probably say no and I don't know how to explain that one. She's not into the clone, so she doesn't need them there if she's already got another partner.

Just for fun, I think if Maria was introduced to a clone / forced to live with one in a regular context, she'd probably just recruit it to help her get work done and half her chores. Maybe they'd use each other for some cuddle therapy because god knows she's not emotionally mature enough to ask anyone else. Sex would maybe be a thing if she was particularly pent up, but purely in a physical way

Natasha:

Nat's a little harder, but I think if you asked her she'd say yes BUT if you actually gave her a clone she'd be wigged out. I don't think she'd sleep with a clone at all, but honestly I don't actually think she'd sleep with anyone unless she felt particularly safe with them (if we're talking Nat who has healed a little by the start of the MCU, past Nat who can barely function might be more likely to fall into past tricks)

A threesome is also out of the question, though somehow I think she'd think about that one a little longer. (She'd probably love to be in a Maria sandwhich though.)

As for simply living with a clone, I think she'd hate it. I think it would creep her out big time. That girl already has trust AND identity issues, she does NOT need another person who looks exactly like her running around. In the comics she literally has her identity stolen and misused MULTIPLE times, she does not need this in the MCU, even if the the clone is inherently good. She's not trusting it. If she is forced to live with it, she is ignoring it at hard as possible.

Wanda:

Wanda took me so long to decide on, and it might be because I haven't written much about her in a long time. I could honestly still be presuaded the either way so I'm going to look at both. Firstly, my brain says I just don't think she likes herself enough to put up with it in a lot of what we see of her. Especially post Wandavision, I think looking at the effects of the Darkhold would probably be painful. HOWEVER, maybe if you asked AoU Wanda she'd say yes, because she thinks it'd be fun to try it once. What could go wrong? It's only herself. Wandavision Wanda would probably say yes (I'm imagining Agatha asking her as a bond building game haha, and Agatha definitely says yes.) And maybe post DSMoM Wanda would say yes, because she believes that no one else would be safe around her, though I think sex is probably the last thing on her mind HAHA but, that's what the question's about so! Basically I think my thoughts come down to: Wanda is a very curious person, and if she's not too busy wallowing in selfhatred and depression, then she'd say yes because it'd be interesting to see what it's like.

As for a threesome, honestly I think she'd be down. Marvel could say she learnt how to duplicated herself just to make it more fun for Vision and I'd believe them. A clone is basically the same sich, right?

And finally, I don't think she could live with one. I think she'd probably just deny it's existence entirely which would probably also desintigrate it literally too. The worst case I can imagine is that she has to see herself doing things that she picked up from Pietro, seeing the way that he lives within her and reminding herself in a horribly roundabout way what it was like to live with him

Bonus round: Clint would say yes immediately to all of the above. For science.
