I'm a new 9-1-1 viewer (binge watched the first 6 seasons like two weeks before the new one came out and been watching season 7 as it comes out) and I'm so glad I found your blog because it annoys me how most of the conversation around the show is always about b*ddie and I really needed to find people who weren't b*ddie shippers. Like, I get why people ship it even if I don't particularly see it or agree with it but they're always trying to prove how this plot point or the other points at them becoming canon next episode and it's so annoying? Especially now that Tommy is in the picture because I think he's such a great LI for Buck and has so much endgame potential but they're all talking about him being a "stepping stone" for their ship and completely ignoring how this is a chance for him to be in a loving, stable relationship in the long run, something he absolutely deserves.

Honestly sometimes I feel like b*ddie shippers don't even care or like Eddie and Buck, they just want them to kiss onscreen and ignore their well written arcs just because they don't end up in them being canon (which honestly after seven seasons of the same clownery they should have learnt by now that maybe it's just not happening and that's okay! they're well thought out, fully fleshed characters that don't need to be involved romantically to have a satisfying storyline!)

it is unfortunate that the show has so many great characters and dynamics that get consistently drowned out by a single fanon ship. i get it if you're just here for b*ddie, but to make a big fuss over losing a single scene in another couple's big episode? when you still got something? sometimes you need a reality check that the show is actually about other people too

fandom is not about hunting for hints that your ship is going canon. like, i have never seen a fandom that seems to spend more time "proving" their ship is gonna go canon than actually, you know, doing fandom stuff. (i was not in spn/destiel, idk what nonsense went on there) we're supposed to ignore what the TPTB say while we play with our dolls because it doesn't matter, not ignore what they say because clearly they're lying and misdirecting and building up to do what they have have said, as explicitly as they can in tv world, won't be happening. this obsession with "going canon" is, frankly, weird in fandom.

my blood pressure goes up when i read the phrase "stepping stone". even if bucktommy doesn't last, they will never have been a stepping stone. one, because it is a relationship, and relationships can't be stepping stones, that is such a cynical way to look at things and really makes me wonder about some of these people's real life relationships (yeah i know it's fiction, but y'all take it too far in your vitriol for it not to be invading your personal lives) and two, because b*ddie is not happening, so it can't be a stepping stone to it.

they have done everything they can except saying "b*ddie isn't happening" because in tvland ambiguity is your best friend. but ryan calling eddie heterosexual twice is not ambiguous. and i've already said, but ignoring what ryan has said about the coming out scene because it doesn't fit your headcanon is extremely disrespectful. it is fiction, but it is fiction made by people drawing from real life experiences and y'all are shitting on that

and tommy does have such potential!! they like to shit on us for saying that, "oh he's only been there for 4 eps, we don't even know anything about him", and, ignoring that we actually do know some stuff about tommy, more than we've gotten for other LI's, that's why we say potential. we are looking at possible future storylines and seeing how tommy could fit. we are looking at what was lacking in prev LI's (not in a deficient way, just in a compatibility way) and seeing how tommy can fill the spaces they couldn't.

we're basing our theories of him at least sticking around for a bit, not on wardrobe hints and coded gazes and what actors post on their socials, but by what we've seen on-screen, what has been said in interviews in black&white no hidden meaning, and by simple knowledge of story pacing.

and we could be completely wrong. that's part of it being a theory; the acknowledgement that it is not guaranteed . once you start insisting something is 100% going to happen, it's no longer a theory

RomCom Movie Idea: Widower Actor Dads (played by Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins) that have been best friends forever that when their wives die in a horrible accident help eachother through the grief and eventually find out they're in love with eachother. But thats not the plot of the movie. The actual plot is that their daughters are getting lesbian married and they've been in the closet the whole time because they've been putting it off until the kids were ready which ok kinda makes sense I guess but even when the daughters came out they didnt want to steal their moment but they kept putting it off until one day the daughters come home from college to announce their wedding and so dad a is like "nows the time" and dad b agrees but then daughter a anounces that shes marrying daughter b before the dads get the chance to come clean and again they dont wanna steal their moment once again so they resign to wait until after the wedding but dad b is basically living with dad a now and so until they come out its a minor problem but dad b decides he wants to give the daughters his house as a wedding present when they finally do but until then they are in a pickly wickly predicament. So its really just wedding shenanigans and trying to keep The Secret (that could the the title of the movie; also maybe its too long for a movie and should be a show instead) and occasional flash backs to their relationship throughout the years until everything comes to a screeching halt on the wedding night at the reception cuz the dads sneak away and the daughters go looking for them and come across a couple getting hot and heavy in a closet only to open to tell them to move it along ("this is a wedding not a porn set") only to find out its their dads so its a big thing that the daughters are mad cuz the dads never told them but its quickly resolved (and maybe the daughters feel bad that the dads were gonna come out to them but didnt want to dim the daughters spotlight and resigned to waiting again and when the daughters hear the dads say that the daughters feel sad but really loved because of course their dads would sacrifice their own happiness for theirs, they always have) in time for a tabloid to come out with the scandal and for them to all hold a united front and the dads to say in an interview that they're not ashamed to be together (just a little embarrassed about the incident and wished it wasnt publicized, "it was probably Rhonda" "I never liked her") and when asked why they were in the closet so long "we said for the kids and we believed that excuse for a while -and also the excuse that we just kept putting it off for a more convenient time or when we wouldn't be taking the spotlight off the girls- but really we were just scared" and things die down eventually and they decide to get married too and their daughters walk them down the aisle (going full circle). And then their daughters adopt and they get to be gay grandpas together.

(Honestly its really just a cockles/destiel au fanfic and to be on the nose Jensen's character is named Misha Ackles and Misha's is Jensen Collins, or more subtly Jensen's is Ross Collins and Misha's is Nic Ackles.)

Not to be sappy on main but it’s genuinely really nice seeing people having so much love for Supernatural on this site.

Like, I know it’s terribly written, and omg some of the bullshit it pulls but that’s part of its charm, it’s pulled so much goddamn bullshit that I can’t even predict it anymore, which, idk the pattern recognition in my autism loves to predict everything (and it’s right a good chunk of the time too) so the fact it’s managed to break it is damn impressive in my book.

And the characters omg the characters, they’re so messy and so dramatic and they’re all so sad and I love them and it’s so nice to see other people also love them and see similar or even new things in characters I also love!

Idk, it’s just something I feel is missing from my main socials (that being instagram) and unfortunately none of my friends have watched Supernatural (Yet. It’s going to happen.) so I’m sort of missing that connection I suppose. It’s been a real long time for me since I was really this into something, arguably I haven’t been this into a piece of media since FNAF 1 came out, since that was what pushed me to start drawing and making ocs in the first place and now here I am planning a whole 7 season comic (I’m incapable of taking things slowly) just because of this damn show and because of how much I genuinely love Dean and Castiel and because I wanted so much more for them.

It’s unfortunate I feel a bit cringe unironically saying Supernatural is one of my favourite shows now, but it is! What started as just picking a long ass show I had some morbid curiosity about because of one of the characters getting sent to superhell for being gay where I couldn’t even remember the characters name but somehow remember he was played by Misha Collins has now basically become a cornerstone of my journey as an artist and the thing that pushed me to finally start seriously pursuing writing!

Saying all this I haven’t actually finished the show yet, I’m currently on S12 and no doubt I will continue to be angry at the absolute shenanigans this show will pull, but honestly if I’ve stuck around for 12 already, what’s another three?

And when the writers do something I really hate? Well I have my lovely ocs who are totally not based on Dean and Cas and are definitely not just so I can live in the delusion that in some universe destiel is real.

Dean had gotten back from a hunt with Sam, vampires he watching it. but that wasn't important, dean wobbled into the apartment the brothers were staying in as he entered the light in the room made his eyes burn, his head ring. He attempted to use his arms to cover his face but got fed up and demanded Sam to turn it off as he did, he let out a relived sigh...but he had other things to worry about a lot more to worry about. dean could hear...so much more then he used to be able to, every little sound possible he could hear and the worst part he could hear the blood moving inside of Sam's body and his heart bumping it...it drove him insane just the thought of drinking sams blood made his mouth drool but he whipped off the small amount of drool, hopefully Sam didn't notice.

"dean..is everything, okay?" sam asked, worried about his brother who seemed to not be able to sit still. like he had ants in his pants, pacing a little around the small room they stood in. Sams eyes never leaving dean no matter how fast or slow he moved.

dean sat down on the edge of the bed in the room, resting his feet as one of his legs jittered up and down. He rubbed his eyes and scratched his face, cupping his face as he breathed deeply into them.

"yeah..i'm fine" he answered his brother. He was really fucking lying

I'm lazy so blah blah sam leaves to go and see if their grandpa knew anything or could help the sound of blood and heart beats had stopped because dean was in the room alone but he still heard little sounds like foot steps. Anything honestly..

Castiel appeared as he stood on the opposite side of the bed, standing in the dark room as his eyes locked onto dean, or at least the back of him. watching Deans little panic. he didn't say anything.

There it fucking was again...Blood pumping it drove him insane..was sam back already, he turned around and quickly jumped off the bed, he saw castiel and his heart raced "cas.." he uddered, his lip quivering.

"hello dean." cas said his usual raspy tone echoing even more through deans head then it usually did. And it was as if he could hear castiels true voice a little because a ring like he heard once hit his head. "You..seem different." Castiel said, he could feel the difference but he couldn't see what it was...

"yeah..i-i know that, cas." Dean said, acknowledging his change to.

Castiel walked around the bed, to get closer to dean as he tried to touch deans face, his hand hovering over deans skin a few inches from it.

The sound of castiels heart pumping his blood throughout cas's body made deans vision go blurry. he was tempted but quickly backed up from castiel. Shaking his head and keeping a good distance between him and cas "don't..please-" he said, worrying he'd hurt castiel, he didn't wanna drink blood and angel blood? God knows what that could do.

Castiels hand fell as he rested it beside his well side, he tilted his head a little to the side as his expression twisted into confusion, his eyebrows furrowed as his head went back to its original angle. He looked at the ground then back up at dean, locking eyes with him* "dean, I am only here to help." he said. thinking he had done something wrong or to upset dean.

dean knew castiel meant no harm, it hurt him to deny cas.. he enjoyed when castiel and him got closer..wait that sounded creepy he shook his head and tried to set his mind to one thing.. The sound of castiels blood got louder almost covering castiels words. but he could just a little make out castiels speech. "I know..cas, it's not-" he sighed, cupping his own face as he groaned into his hands and shook his head a little

"it's not what, dean?" castiel asked with another head tilt, he was curious...

"..somethings wrong cas..I'm scared." Dean said as his hands started to shake. he fiddled with his fingers

castiels eyes widened a bit with mostly shock, dean had never admitted to castiel that he was "scared"...something was wrong, he approached dean but didn't get too close, he wanted to respect deans space. "then let me help, dean".

dean noticed castiels step and was prepared to back up but..didnt because he didn't get to close "you..can't" dean admitted, he wanted castiels help but he didn't want to hurt him.

"why so?" castiel said as he kneeled down to dean, who was now sitting on the floor against the walls of the corner of the room (??).

Dean hugged his legs as he rested his chin on his knees.. He didn't know how to explain it so he.. just needed to be honest. "I can hear your blood." he admitted as his eyes furrowed.

Castiel frooze..what?.. he was confused. "what do you mean?" he wasn't very good with humans and stuff.. he hoped this was somewhat normal.

"I can hear it move around. it's loud.." dean admitted.

"dean..." Castiel scotted closer to dean, able to touch deans knee and give him his best attempt of a comforting touch, he squeezed deans knee. "..? are you.." castiel said, kind of realizing shit. he was a vampire.

Dean tried to get away from cas but he was already in the corner of the room he couldn't go nowhere else, he shivered as he felt castiels cold skin touch his jeans "Please..."

castiel thought dean was begging for his blood, hopefully his vessels blood. but he was clueless to the fact that dean was pleading for cas to back up, he took out a pocket knife which made dean kind of jump but castiel gave him a reassuring smile. and pressed the blade against his skin, sliding it down on his arm. the blood began to drip.

Dean shivered and his vision became so blurry, castiel only looked like a blob in front of him. his hearing echoed, the sound of blood got to its peak. he.. tried to pull back but his teeth Begun to turn sharp, like a mouth of teeth, his mouth began to uncontrollably drool.

"it's okay, dean. go ahead" Castiel said as he moved his arm closer to dean.

dean didn't want to. He really didn't but...Suddenly his mouth latched onto the small cut castiel had made on his arm. his teeth digging into the skin, he could hear castiel wince at this. his tongue licked and pecked at it. he began to suck, he was drinking castiels blood. god he was sick. but it was so good. he needed more.

Castiel groaned and bit his lip, to try to hide the fact it hurt like hell. It felt like a bunch of razor blades in his skin, obviously he would heal like nothing happened but pain still was a thing for him.

he hinced(?) as he felt the suction of dean drinking his blood. he watched dean, how desperate He was, for every single drop he could get to. In between deans feeding he mumbled sorrys. and apologies, castiel felt sorry.

He did everything he could to get every drop. his mind went blank as he drank away. he felt like he was on a whole another planet. It was so good.. so.. Good..

castiel would grab dean and put him on his lap, as he sat down. he rubbed deans head in an attempt to comfort him "..'ts alright, dean..take all you need." he said with a wide smile, he didn't mind, minus how painful it was. he forced a happy face.

Dean looked castiel in the eyes as his pupils turned red as well the blood he was drinking. he...Couldn't stop. He lost track of time he had no idea how long he'd been at this... and he didn't care. He needed this...

Apologizes in advance if this is not the most well worded because this is the thing that probably annoys me the most of all the things BT Stan’s say. This coming from someone that is a diehard destiel fan and has been for over a decade. I hate that they try to make that comparison. And honestly I’m so embarrassed by fellow destiel shippers who abandoned Buddie for BT.

Here’s the thing. Yes Cas wasn’t meant to have a long arc and they decided to keep him because of fan response. However, he was brought in as a part of a HUGE plot-arc for the show (the introduction of Angels as a supernatural creature and all that comes with literal angels) so even if he wasn’t meant to be the angel that stayed long term, there was meant to be a long-term plot with angels. And as soon as they decided to keep him they delivered on actually developing him as a character.

Additionally, Misha and Jensen had great chemistry right away. Even platonic chemistry that general audience could see. Despite the small group that love them, most people can see that Oliver and Lou don’t have that much chemistry. Destiel as a ship started right away, yes, much like Buddie was a ship almost as soon as Eddie showed up (to the point where they were putting things in like the Elf scene as a nod to what the fans saw). But, like Buddie, Destiel became what it was because of SEASONS of development and build up and devotion to each other over and over again. Also they tried repeatedly to kill off Cas and the ratings plummeted every time so they had to bring him back - Tommy is not important or well liked enough for that, but you know which pairing is? Buddie - who Tim admitted the show suffered for when they were split up.

Also, yes Misha gained a cultlike following - but what did he use it for? To start charities like GISHWISHES for random acts of kindness. He talked about his character and headcanons but he did so mostly either for free online (Twitter) or at sanctioned conventions. And he did so after he was kept on as an established main character. He did not charge fans on cameo to make things up to try and boost his own career. Also a reminder that his first season aired in 2008 - there wasn’t the massive amounts of social media then to amass the cult the way they’ve done (there was no Instagram to spam with duplicate accounts, no showrunner open to DMs) Cas was kept on the show because the general audience and fandom loved him - outside of Dean.

Both are characters that were introduced to have a short arc, and there was fandom response to them - that is where the comparisons end. Comparing the two is an insult to Cas and Misha.

This is a very detailed explanation, thank you. Personally, I was never that invested in Supernatural, so for me it was just another thing that was added, but I completely agree with you, Cas completely changed the game and he was brought in at a time that you couldn't fake that type of approval, because we were talking about a network show in 2008, like, there were no big things, they were forums where we were discussing fandom and stuff like that but there wasn't something like Twitter or the cameos or even Tumblr in the size that it is now. And it was because the general audience loved Cas, he was a great audition to the show especially considering the circumstances in which he was added, everything about season 4. So it's not really a fair comparison because Misha actually got a cult-like following naturally, he organically became what he is now, and it's not something you can fake, you can't fabricate what they did with Castiel and Misha. You can't replicate what happened because of a very specific set of circumstances aligning perfectly. A lot of it comes to the fact, like you said the chemistry between Misha and Jensen was insane and you didn't have something comparable in the show yet and they just kept building on top of it. You had the fact that everyone saw Dean as bisexual and you had the devotion that Cas showed towards Dean, you had no way to work around it you, it was what he was. And that in 911 it is buddie, Eddie was introduced after the show was already airing, the chemistry Oliver has with Ryan is palpable, and the show built the relationship. You can't do it again on the show, you can't shove him in the space that's already filled. Yes, Cas was brought in for an arc but he was always supposed to have consequences within the universe and obviously the reaction to him made him stay longer and it was something, yk, like people really like the character. Cas kind of gave a second life to the show. It allowed fandom to create something that didn't exist there yet and he ended up being really really well received. So they obviously played with that. It's not the same situation as trying to fabricate a connection that's not there when, you don't have the same level of chemistry, and you already have a ship that is filling that space, you can't really force that to happen because it has to happen organically to have lasting effects.

(i haven’t seen any posts about this so if there are any i would love to know about it bc i am passionate about this.)

firstly, i could pick that entire scene apart with how it relates to dean and what he’s going through as well as all the symbolism—the mother losing her child, billie in death’s library, the shots of the impala, the neon signs in shot when they finally drive up to cas—but honestly i would never run out of things to say about it.

the overarching themes of both that scene and this song are regret and guilt and wishing you could go back and do things, treat people, differently, and so putting them together in that way is perfect. more specifically, the song is about a man who had all these ambitions, mostly because of pressure from his parents, but finds himself grown up having achieved none of them and because of that, it starts to affect the people around him. sound familiar?

especially right now, dean is suffering so much loss, and (somewhat inadvertently) is taking it out on sam and jack, both his kids in a way (on your woman and your child / you release your bitterness). all he wants is his family back (i.e. mary and cas) but since there’s nothing he can do to go back and fix what took them away from him, he has a lot of trouble seeing the point in going on.

although you’re trained to make your mark / you still don’t quite know what to do

yeah. he’s lived like that for a while, but he’s especially feeling it now. his reaction to billie telling him he still has work to do was not exactly enthusiastic.

as he says to sam in this ep, he’s taken every previous loss in stride and just kept going, kept working, and (in some ways) kept starting over despite it all. but he might not be able to do it anymore. we’re seeing him at his lowest, all he wants is to die, but he’s finally let sam in, even if neither of them are sure where to go from here. and what happens next? his phone rings, and his best friend is on the other end.

we all know there’s a stark difference in dean from one episode to the next (13x6 is tombstone), and why is that? dean got the win he needed. he got cas back, and he’s no longer just watching time slip by until his death. a reason to live just walked back into his life. he’s learning that, maybe, it really is never too late.

this happens a lot for dean, specifically with losing cas, where it feels like he’s finally lost for good this time, but he’s always managed to get cas back or to find some way to keep going.

another line i find very fitting for dean is in the second verse:

the god of your childhood you can’t find / to save you from your emptiness

obviously, this could be about chuck and how unreliable he is, especially when dean (and sam) needs him most, which we saw most recently at the end of 13x1. (“the god of your childhood” could also be the samulet, but thats a different discussion.)

again, there’s a lot of lines that i think reflect dean’s character and everything he’s been through really well, but rather than enduring the essay i could write about it, go (re)listen and you’ll see what i mean. it’s just so beautifully fitting, especially given it’s 60s/70s rock which i think dean would appreciate.

that ending scene of dean and cas seeing each other again, particularly with that song in the background, is one i think about a lot and, to me, is criminally underrated in terms of destiel moments. it’s one of my favs and it makes me cry like a baby.

wrote a kinda horny little ficlet last night when i was sad and just wanted to read about destiel making out but then it ended up just being like, dean thinks he's really really great in bed but can't stop embarrassing himself actually.

this can take place whenever the fuck you want it to. it's the aftermath of a very well-received confession heh. timeline whatever, choose your fighter (season). overuse of the word fuck, probably.

Dean lays a hand almost hesitantly against Cas's jaw. Meets his eyes. They're fuckin' glittering. Dean has never once in his life looked at a pair of eyes on another person and thought "hey these eyes are glittering". It's stupid. But that's how Cas is looking at him. Like Dean is a galaxy or something, reflected back at himself. Crazy.

The other quality to Cas's eyes is that of fucking do it already.

So Dean does it.

He crashes his mouth into Cas's and—

Hovers his mouth over Dean's. Lips parted, breathing hot air over Dean's mouth— this close, but not closing the distance.

This sting in Dean's lip fades out. He swallows blood, and no new blood replaces it.

"Did you just heal me with your breath, Cas?" His breath hitches ironically, stupidly.

"Dean. My patience is wearing thin."

He's glad his split lip is gone, cause he grins wide, then does his best to school it. He's got a mission.

Dean knows he's a good kisser. Sue him for getting a little too enthusiastic that first attempt. In his defense, the build-up's been bizarre and intense for over a decade.

This time he does it right. His hands return to grip Cas's jaw, firm and gentle. He walks them back two steps to press Cas into the wall, and— there.

His lips on Cas's. Cas's lips on his. Holy shit.

Dean's gonna lose his reputation as a good kisser. Cas is gonna wonder what the fuck all the fuss is about. Maybe he'll even start missing Meg.

Cause god, Dean's hit with a wave of overwhelming heat. It's pleasure and it's love and it's rightness and home and anticipation and he can barely—

He pulls back, fuckin' embarrassed honestly, but he rests his forehead against Cas's temple and breathes, deep and unsteady.

Dean doesn't know how he's recognizing that right now. It's so new it's still got the tags on it. But then, he supposes, no, it's not.

"You love me, Cas?" He asks, just double checking, wanting to hear it again.

Cas sadly removes his warm hands from Dean's skin, but then uses them to guide Dean's face, make their eyes meet.

"Dean. I love you."

And Dean let's out a shaky laugh, gets the words ready on their launchpad.

He doesn't get them out because Cas closes the distance between their mouths.

And there, finally, that's it. Dean feels that same wave of everything, but it's cresting with desire this time, cause Cas's tongue is already in his mouth. It's slow and hot against his own and fuck fuck fuck. Dean's 40 fucking years old. He shouldn't be moaning from a kiss but—

"God, Cas." His knees feel like fuckin' jello. Heat courses through his body and he kisses back, slow and languid, like they have forever. Somehow Dean's still the one pressing Cas into the wall even though he feels like he lost control of this situation a while ago, is just along for the ride now. But he does decide—

He shifts his hips over an inch, raises his thigh a bit, just there, between Cas's.

He's very suddenly no longer in a control position. Cas has him on his back on the bed in a second flat and he's descending on him.

"Wait wait wait, Cas." He's gotta get it out now while he still has any brain power at all. The words are eager on his tongue. Practically clawing their way out behind his teeth. Cas is looming over him, knees on either side of Dean's hips, looking for all the world like Dean's just interrupted him in the middle of his favourite hobby, and Dean says, "I- you know I love you too, right?"

"Yes," Cas says simply, but his eyes do that stupid glittery thing even harder than they did before. Dean swears for a second they look wet. Only a second, though, because then Cas is on him again. Their mouths slotted together, lips moving against each other. It's warm and feels like fuckin' syrup and god, how's Dean gonna get anything done after this?

Cas is just gonna be here? Available to kiss him into his memory foam whenever they want?

Fuck, he wants.

And maybe this first time doesn't go super smoothly. Dean swears he's known as a stud in bed, swears it, but give him a break. It's all new and different and it's Cas, and it's love. So maybe it's a bit clumsy, but mostly it's just too quick, because Cas looks so insanely turned on that his eyes glow a little. He bites Dean's earlobe, then the skin beneath Dean's tattoo and he says, one hand in Dean's hair while his hips grind Dean further into the bed, "you don't know Dean. You don't know."

But Dean's pretty sure he does know cause that's when he comes. At just the suggestion that Cas loves him, wants him so badly that he doesn't even think Dean will get it. Dean's never had a love so big directed at him; always been the one with the big, insane feeling love flowing outwards. It feels scary but also, maybe, deep, deep down, like he's finally getting return. And maybe like he can keep it. It's unbelievable.

Soppy shit aside, he comes after like five minutes. Throws an arm over his eyes and groans.

"Are you embarrassed?" Cas asks, seeing right through him, still ever so slightly rocking into Dean's hip cause Cas didn't come after five fucking minutes.

"Yes, you dick," Dean gripes. "It's a one off. Gimme thirty seconds to pick my ego out of the grave you just dug it and I'll make it up to you."

Cas hums a little, sounding a bit too self-satisfied for Dean's liking. So Dean removes his defensive arm from his eyes to glare at the bastard.

Cas is staring at him, kinda smirking, but with so much adoration in his eyes that it makes Dean's mouth go dry and his stomach swoop down into his knees. He clears his throat a little.

"Alright I'm good. Lay on your back, Cas, gonna try something."

That one post about people "hating on Destiel bc they're white and male" is *wild* to me. I combed through the reblogs of the poll to see if I can find anything and stopped after like 50 refreshes bc my goodness over 9000 reblogs. I saw the main complaints and *real* reasons people are upset with Destiel/Destiel fans. Most notably:

- queerbaiting (the show doing so or the fans doing it to themselves [it's pretty split])

- forcing an actor to come out as straight

- apparently being salty toward bumbleby during their poll

- discounting Sulemio as a 'random anime lesbian pairing' / hyping Destiel up as being more important (having more fics on AO3, shutting down tumblr, mishapocolypse, etc)

- Super hell

Everyone that's hyping Sulemio up is doing so bc:

- canon on-screen marriage

- the sheer history and influence of g-witch internationally

- most Gundams sold from said fandom in a country that still bans same-sex marriage

- literally posting all the amazing sulemio moments

- and obligatory "let's go lesbians!"

I like both shows a lot honestly. Even without taking everything else into consideration, I think a lot of older spn fans feel burnout from the ship. Especially when it was *the* big Supernatural ship.

Either way, trying to pull a reverse racism/sexism card on a lesbian inter-race ship is distasteful. I'm glad you left the poster's name out. Ultimately a AO3 ship poll isn't something we should be tearing each other down over, but instead a celebration of fandom history and fandom history in the making as ColeyDoeaThings put it in her last ship poll video

Ooh, but I will respond to this, because I really like the points you've raised.

I actually really appreciate this perspective because I have never seen Supernatural, nor do I ever plan to, and obviously that and g-witch are on very different spectrums no matter what, so it's genuinely interesting whenever I come across someone who has actually seen them both.

And yeah, like, I'm sure it's being hateful on both sides, and I acknowledge that I am heavily biased, but from what I've seen, most of the animosity seems to stem from the Supernatural side of things. Granted, they're losing fairly badly at the moment, so maybe it'd be completely different if things were on the other foot. Who knows! I do think this is ultimately hilarious and that's always what side I'm going to portray here, but there's always going to be people who take it too far.

But yeah, I completely agree with you there. Popularity polls will probably always hold some sort of controversy with them, but to be honest, it could be far, far worse. Hence why I'm making fun of my favorite takes anyway! Keeping it anonymous, too, is better for everybody involved.

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don’t care anymore?

Honestly? None. While I did have some ships I was interested in, I wasn't obsessed with any of them. And I kind of still care about them? In a very nostalgic way. So I kind of fail at both parts of this question x'D

2. Which ship would you consider your first one?

If I'm going with the one I got really invested in? Destiel tbh. Mainly because I was very much a late bloomer who didn't really discover fandom and fanfics until I was 20-21. I mean, I HAD read some before that but since I didn't have internet in my apartment until I went to university (I was too poor xD), it wasn't easy for me to access them. Shipping is just easier when you have internet.

But, once I had it, I DID revisit a couple of ships that were technically older than Destiel that I had never really gotten into before that, many of them from video games, anime/manga, and books I'd read. But they were all overshadowed by Destiel so that's the one I remember as my first.

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?

Are we talking reading or writing? I guess I'll do both?

Reading: I think it was a Zell Dincht/Seifer Almasy one from Final Fantasy VIII that a friend printed out on actual paper and gave to me back when I was 16 or 17 (again, no internet). And I honestly can't say why he picked that pairing xD (I'm definitely more of a Squall/Seifer girlie now)

Writing: Sterek. Because it felt interesting but also not too intimidating. And I also just like werewolves?

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?

Not really, no. Since I've been drawing for so long I spent more time looking for art than fanfics when I was younger so I probably stumbled over a lot of them without even knowing it.

5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?

Not if I can help it, no. I tend to stay away from that sort of thing as best I can and just let people ship whatever they want. It's honestly none of my business.

6. Did you use to have any no-otp or have it currently?

I have several, mostly based on what I find triggering or squicky. But I don't announce them publically because that's just rude to those who DO ship them. And, as stated above, I try not to get involved in what other people ship or don't ship.

7. Who were the couples in the last fanfic you read?

Choi Yoon/Yoon Hwa Pyung from The Guest. Because who doesn't love some pining and Catholic guilt?

For real, though, I read very few fanfics right now and actually had to go check my history on AO3 to figure this out x'D The second to last fanfic was a Strangers From Hell one. And the one before that was a Guardian one!

8. Currently do you have any OTPs?

Several. Honestly too many to list x'D I'm one of those people who don't really let go of ships I like. They're not always at the forefront of my mind, though, but I remember them fondly and coo a little when I think of all the fond memories.

But if we're talking about the ones I'm the most focused on right now I'd say Kang Yo Han/Kim Ga On from The Devil Judge, Yoon Sa Wol/5-8 from Black Knight (currently struggling with chapter 6 x'D), the aforementioned Choi Yoon/Yoon Hwa Pyung from The Guest, and Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan from Guardian.

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?

Sterek. But that has less to do with my dedication to the characters and more to do with the queerbaiting and how extremely shittily Jeff Davis handled that whole thing. To use the Sterek shippers for publicity and hint that maybe it could happen, only to turn around and do everything within his power to not make it happen?

I take that personally, not because I have a huge stake in Stiles and Derek as characters, but as a queer person who, for once, thought that maybe we would actually get to see a couple we really liked get together, and then didn't.

I had more hope for Sterek than I ever did for Destiel, which technically had more in-canon queerbaiting, because the people behind Teen Wolf did their damndest to give me hope. Only for me to be ignored and basically told I was being gullible for ever thinking it would happen.

And that's a betrayal I'm probably never going to forgive.

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?

Not... really? I can't think of any, at least. But that could be because I always have a pretty good reason for disliking the ships I dislike. As mentioned, it's usually based on triggers and squicks and those don't really change. So my opinion on ships I dislike aren't likely to change, either.

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

I mean, considering the social climate right now? Even Sterek qualifies because Stiles was underage when I started shipping them and Derek most certainly was not xD That said, I always prefer the fics when Stiles had time to turn 18 before any of the sexy stuff happened.

12. What was your favourite crack ship?

Okay, so, I've actually read a lot of fics for ships I don't actually ship, just for research purposes. Like, I find it FASCINATING to watch what other people like, how they choose to write about the things they like, and how they decide to portray the characters. Basically, I like to analyse authors just as much as I like to analyse characters. It's a hobby of mine.

And one of my absolute favourites was reading fanfics for Newt Scamander and the original Percival Graves from the first Fantastic Beasts movie (Sidenote: She-who-must-not-be-named is an asshole and this is not an endorsement of her franchise or shitty beliefs). And why I loved that so much was because the fics were about THE ORIGINAL Percival Graves who, technically, was never IN the actual movie (he might not even be alive anymore?). Like, it was Grindelwald all the time. We never actually SAW the original Percival Graves, just Grindelwald's impersonation of him.

And I just had so much fun reading various authors' takes on this character who was never actually seen but, based on Grindelwald's impersonation, can sort of be hinted? Because he must have done a good enough job of it that the people around Graves didn't notice? It was like an anthropological dig of Percival Graves transpiring right before my eyes and since I got on the train pretty early, I could see authors being inspired by each other and how the fanon developed over time. 10/10 would recommend if you're interested in watching a fandom evolve.

(also, some of the fics were so fucking good. So there's that, too xD)

13. Who is the couple you read most fanfics of?

I'm not entirely sure if it's Destiel or Stony, but definitely one of them (Sterek is most likely in third place). Partly because there are just so many to partake in (those fandoms are HUGE), but also because they've been with me for so long and numbers accumulate. That said, I haven't read any for those ships in a long, long time. But considering how many fics I devoured during the time I was the most active in those fandoms? It's going to be difficult for any of the ones I'm currently into to catch up.

Also because I tend to be in much smaller fandoms now >_>

14. What do most of your ships usually have in common?

WELL. A while back I would have said that even if there are some enemies-to-lovers tropes and antagonising in some of them, they're all mostly unproblematic and pretty healthy.

... I can't really do that anymore, can I? x'D

I mean, Kang Yo Han is problematic all on his own, but even HE is a green flag compared to Seo Moon Jo. That fucker is just a straight-up psychopath x'D

A more serious answer: An interesting dynamic. Which sounds like a given, but is actually a bit more tricky than that. Because I've only gotten more and more picky over the years. I've actually spoken to my wife and friends about this, because I've seen a pretty noticeable shift in my own shipping practices lately.

I gather fewer and fewer new ships and that's not because I watch/read fewer things, but because I'm getting pickier about them. There has to be an extra spark that interests me, often connected to the characters' personalities and how they play off each other, while, before, a bit of chemistry was enough.

But that also makes me more versatile, I guess? Because I focus less on tropes and more on characters and dynamics. But that also makes it harder to spot similarities xD

15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship?

I mean, hate is a strong word. But, again, it would mostly be connected to my triggers. I don't like ships that are too abusive and unbalanced. A little bit of danger is fine, but things like abuse, infidelity, grooming, non-con etc. don't work for me, personally.

The Snake and the Wolf

Summary: Prompt: Character B buying Character A their first stuffed animal

Dean didn’t ask for a lot things, which made it very hard to buy for him. Sam concluded that he was just selfless like that, to a fault even. Zephyr had remarked that he did not let himself want, for fear of losing it and it seemed like Cas was the first thing he let himself have. Bobby had confirmed as much.

Unfortunately, none of this gave Cas a clue on what to buy Dean, so he bided his time in pool game hustles until he felt he had enough to spoil him silly. Then he announced to Dean that they were going shopping and dragged him to the Continental Mark V that he always teased him about.

When they got to the store, Cas told him that this trip was all about him, and could have anything he wanted. Dean’s mouth dropped open a little, as he stared at Cas with wide green eyes. He stayed like that until Cas grabbed his hand and dragged him down one of the aisles. The first thing that Dean chose was a comforter that has green plaid on one side and blue on the other. Cas simply smiled at him reassuringly when he looked at him while he slowly put it in the cart like expected him to refuse. (He’d never.) Dean seemed to relax a bit after that, and it made him wonder if John Winchester never took Dean shopping. The thought made him want to resurrect John so he could smite him.

After that, Dean chose a few more practical things, then picked a few more indulgent things, like soft clothes because while his skin is tougher, it it’s still sensitive at times. A humidifier, that’ll keep his skin and scales from drying out. And a small cat tree that he said nothing about, so Cas didn’t ask. Honestly, he’s enjoying this shopping trip. Spoiling Dean made him incredibly happy, and despite Dean’s overall quietness, he could tell that he was having a good time too. It’s nice, not having to worry about anything other than making his boyfriend happy, even if it's just for a few moments. Of course, the peaceful moment was stolen away when Dean saw it. And at first, Cas had no idea what he’s looking at until he followed his line of sight to a large stuffed wolf. It’s black, with blue plastic eyes, and roughly half the size of Dean. Unlike with everything else he picked out, he just stared at it, immobile. So Cas grabbed it for him, and put it in the cart.

There’s a choked sound, and he found Dean staring at him with wide, teary eyes and a clenched jaw. Anguish was etched into the way his body tensed, and Cas? Cas nearly fell apart because for his boyfriend to have this sort of reaction means something- something bad happened and his poor heart breaks.

“Can’t- can’t have t-that,” Dean’s voice was rough and small, and it scraped at Cas’s ribcage viscerally.

“Why not?” He whispered, because speaking is too loud for this moment that feels like walking on hot coals and glass.

“I’m n-not allowed,”

“Says who?” But he knows. He knows who it is because who else could it be? He has to ask; as much as it pains them he knows that Dean would never otherwise and he has to tell him that he’ll be ok no matter what he wants.

“D-John.”

“He’s not here is he? It’s just me and you hon and I’m telling you if you want it, you can have it,”

“But s’weak…. I’m weak..”

Dean was trembling, like he might fall out of his skin and Cas grabbed his hands as he stared him dead in the eyes. “Dean Winchester, you are the strongest man I know. Nothing, and I mean nothing will change that. I love you with all of my being and that won’t change either no matter what,”

“I-I-“

Cas let go of one of his hands to grab the wolf and gently handed it him. Dean gave him a searching glance before looking at the stuffed animal. His empty hand clenched open and closed for a few seconds before he took it, hugging it tightly to his body with both of his arms.

“I’m so proud of you Dean,”

The shopping trip is pretty much over after that, so Cas took them over to a cashier with no line and paid for everything. Anyone who so much as looked at Dean was met with an angel powered glare, which worked out in their favor as they’re able to get out pretty quickly. Dean didn’t speak a single word after that, he just clutched onto the wolf like a lifeline. Cas let him have his silence for moment, since he needed to focus on getting them back to their hotel room. It’s no sooner than Castiel is setting the stuff down on his bed that he he turned around to find Dean quietly sobbing into the wolf.

“Oh Dean baby, what’s wrong?” He asked, pulling him into a much deserved hug. A few tears of his own leaked out at seeing his boyfriend in such a state.

“M’sad, m’happy, m’scared Cas. Head feels all fuzzy and small and I dunno w’ats happening’! M’sorry!” Dean wailed.

This was the first time he’s ever seen him openly cry and he can’t help but be terrified. He’s afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing, but right now he doesn’t have the time to agonize. Right Now Dean needs him.

“We can figure this out together. I’m not mad at you, and I think it’s very good that you’re telling me how you feel so I can help you,”

“S’good?” Dean’s cries tapered off, waiting for Cas’s reply.

“So good baby, I’m so proud of you,”

“Cas’s p’oud of De?”

“Of course,” And it’s true. Dean doesn’t open up very often, and every time it happens he’s so proud of him. He wished it didn’t come to tears this time, but he’s glad that Dean trusts him enough to be vulnerable.

“E’en tho’ De’s head’s all fuzzy and small?”

“We’ll figure it out together,” As long as Dean’s happy, it doesn’t matter why he’s acting like a child, but he’ll help him figure what exactly this is.

“M’kay,” Dean rubbed his eye with a fist, looking around the room as he took in a shuddery breath in through his nose and blew it out through his mouth. “Wanna cuddle with Cas. And take a nap.”

“Ok, we can do that,” Cas walked over to the bed, and Dean followed. He watched Cas get comfortable first, then crawled into the bed with him, gripping his wolf tightly. “Is this good?”

Dean nodded, closing his eyes. He felt Cas shift a little underneath him as he grabbed something. Then there was a soft tapping noise, which made his eyes open as he squirmed.

“What’s wrong baby?”

“Nap with De,”

And how could Cas say no to that? Tossing his phone aside, he hugged Dean close as he closed his eyes.

Since GO2 dropped I am thinking a lot about Johnlock and Destiel lately

GO2 proved how easy it would been to make them canon if you stop being a twat about your own characters

GO2 imo also proved that the romantic subtext we saw in BBC Sherlock and SPN was really there, we didn’t imagined things. The writers were just too narrow minded to see it themselves. Those shows could have had an gay twist easily… with the right writer

And honestly? That takes away a lot of bitterness imo. That may sound paradox, but imo our outrage after those messy endings made shows like OFMD and GO2 possible. We proved SPN and BBC Sherlock wrong. There is an audience for those storylines. And it was good that we were loud! That we kept on pushing, with every new episode being released.

Without SPN and BBC Sherlock we maybe wouldn’t be here today. And I am honestly seeing a brighter queer future ahead of us

Maybe SPN and BBC Sherlock would be different if you would write them today, we may never know. But in my heart they will always be queer. That Mofftiss and the SPN-crew were never able to see that, is not my fault.

Secret original script conspiracies, desperately clinging to the words of the only one actually queerbaiting them, still passing around the same tired absurdist meta as proof there was totally a storyline there somewhere, watching TW assuming it would have to be made canon there, trying to make other canons about their ship any way they can... for a show that's been over for years. Which was so absolutely clear as to what it was actually about even they understood from the finale (before diving headfirst back into denial-land).

If they were really mad about being "queerbaited", they wouldn't still be desperately kissing Misha's ass and eagerly doing the whole stupid secret clues thing all over again. If it was really representation they cared about, they'd be happily embracing legit representation in SPN as more than just signposts D/C was meant to happen. And enjoying it in other canons instead of insisting it's not as good or important as their totes real ship would have been if only [persecution complex conspiracy nonsense].

They're mad they didn't get their way. That's it. Even a toddler would have bought a clue by now they weren't going to get that single specific shiny toy, but they just keep whining and crying and screaming GIMME!!! and NOT FAIR!!! trying to make everyone else as miserable as they are. Second, I'm assuming you're looking for reader inserts and not ship fics. A Woman of Letters (Getting a Feel For Sam Winchester) - 70k words - After Oasis, I needed some Sam lovin'. And some angst, apparently.

Third Wheel - 64k words - This comes closest to a series rewrite, as it closely follows season 6. I challenged myself to write a fuck ton of fucking. Soulless Sam helped. And then Dean got involved.

(non spn watcher here) when did destial become a canon love story with writer intent? like was there more destiel-ness in the season leading up to the nov 5th confession?

Okay *cracks knuckles*.

First and foremost, I'm gonna tell you about my SPN history. I started watching SPN and got caught up with the show while s10 was airing and was watching live until the end of s12. I gave up specifically because Castiel's s11 plot proved to be just on the side of too miserable for me, and s12 didn't really make it any better (Cas dies at the end of that season). During this time, and until Nov 5th 2020, I was solidly on camp "Dean and Cas are never going to be canon just because of what SPN is fundamentally as a show, and even if they did, I cannot imagine a situation where it would be a good thing for Cas given SPN's track record on how they treat the angel."

When Nov 5th happened I was sucked back into the show. In preparation for the finale I watched all of s13-15 in the two weeks between the confession episode and the finale. Again, my perspective going into this endeavour was still very doubtful and pessimistic, specifically on the Dean side of the equation.

The beginning of s13 was a bit of a shock to me, honestly. It starts with what the fandom calls 'The Widower's Arc'. I think this was the arc that most solidly cements the feelings from Dean's side. It was so vehement in pointing out that Dean feels for Cas in a way so distinguished from how Sam does. In the very first episode of the season (so the first episode I watched after going back into SPN), Dean quietly wraps Cas' body with a curtain all by himself in a sunlit room. And I go Oh. Okay.

This vibe does wane after Cas comes back and regular SPN hijinks ensues. S14 actually ends with Dean and Cas fighting and Dean doing his usual Dean-isms. 15.03 is when that fight culminates: they break up and spend a couple episodes apart from each other.

15.09 The Trap features Dean and Cas in purgatory, and this was Truly An Episode. They bicker through-out the entire thing and are pretty pissed at one another, but then Cas gets taken, and Dean desperately prays to him, confesses his anger issues, forgives Cas and asks for forgiveness back. Later, they reunite, and Cas acknowledges that he heard everything Dean said.

This episode is so interesting to me because it culminates the Dean and Cas fight-separation-reconciliation plot of s15, and in doing so confirms it to be as important as it is. I cannot point enough that the plot reasons for the stuff happening in 15.09 is so pointless. They go to purgatory for a fetch quest for an item that can be interchangeable with literally anything else, specifically to put Dean and Cas back in purgatory (a meaningful place for them), have them be separated, and have the prayer happen. The whole point of the Dean and Cas portion of the episode is to do character work. We don't even see the scene where Cas finally gets the thing they're here to acquire in the first place. That's literally not the point. The point is Cas and Dean's story. S15 is the last season of a show with so many big things to wrap up, and they make it a point to have Dean and Cas go through a half-season arc that DOES occupy so much of the season and brings a new openness, vulnerability, and room for development into their relationship.

So yeah, before 15.18 there WAS very visible marks of the fact that Something was gonna happen. Interestingly enough all those marks were pretty dean-centric. I would say s4-10 destiel is the audience being inundated that Cas loves Dean. S11-15, ESPECIALLY 13-15 is so very much making it known that Dean loves Cas too.

On a related note, on Nov 21, 2020, a post is made here on tumblr claiming that around Dec 2016 (S12 was airing at this point), Warner Bros. conducted a market research about Supernatural, and from this person's experience, specifically about Dean and Cas and Dean's sexuality (link to a post that confirms the information in the post to be true). This market research was during the time leading up to s13, which I think does mark a big change in how the love between Dean and Cas started being framed by the show as something Dean both feels and is also aware of.

So, to answer your questions.

Was there more destiel-ness in the season leading up to the nov 5th confession? Yes.

When did destiel become a canon love story with writer intent? It became a canon love story by S15, but the writer intent to make it canon goes way back to s13 but probably even s12.

I'm basically taking the transcripts and whittling each season down into 12 chapters (episodes) and making everything more intense/horror driven. Essentially a tightening of the narrative and finding the core driving force of each season and structuring the story to maximize the impact. Special spotlight on The Boys' trauma and all the weird, seedy things they likely would have done living the lifestyle they did. Making them more morally ambiguous, etc.

I've only gotten partway through the pilot as far as writing goes but below are my personal headcanons about the fic.

+ TRUE MIDWEST GOTHIC and southern gothic vibes

+ it starts out as weirdchesters but is very much destiel

+ Sam has a scar on his cheek from the fire

+ Dean has “your name” tattooed on his ass and wins an astounding amount of money by telling people “i have your name tattooed on my ass” and coaxes them into betting him to drop his pants. He gets hit only about 20% of the time.

+ Dean’s a speed freak but has pot plants hidden in nearly every national forest in the lower 48. Sam will roll with Dean on his birthday but otherwise sticks to pot or coke if someone offers. And the demon blood later of course. Dean flirts with Heroin after Hell but Cas puts the literal fear of God into him.

+ Oh Cas is T. E. R. R. I. F. Y. I. N. G. like sure he’s in a human vessel but he gives everyone the creeps as if they can sense he is other somehow. He kills people indiscriminately at first. Like a waitress comes to ask for their drink order and he smites her for interrupting. Dean is half horrified half annoyed like WILL YOU QUIT MURDERING EVERYONE THAT TRIES TO TALK TO ME WHILE YOURE TALKING TO ME??? (Which should have been his first clue honestly but even HBO!dean is dense at first)

+ Dean fucks every woman he possibly can because he may have a minor sex addiction (really he’s just touch starved) and it annoys the hell outta Sam in the early days. Especially when he brings them back to the room and essentially forces Sam to watch. He starts openly experimenting with men after his demon deal because who gives a shit anymore anyhow. He quits for the most part after Cas arrives because Cas just keeps killing them afterward.
