Christos Gage did an interview regarding upcoming miniseries Weapon X-Men
source here
We got a lot of backstory regarding this new Wolverine, a.k.a. Jane Howlett
Design page above.
First and foremost, she never left the Howlett estate or ever lost her memory. Raised an aristocrat, she faced issues of her time that come with being a Victorian woman in a very patriarchal society. (avoiding being married off by being rich and independent herself)
Verbatim: "She's a bit like Lara Croft meets Wolverine."
Article linked also has some letterless preview pages!

Not me reading Slaying the Shifter Prince purely because the dude on the cover art is super hot and the couple look similar to a certain ship I love 👀

mom and I watched Goosebumps (2015) and honestly it was pretty not-great overall but Ough the twist using The Ghost Next Door was so good. I wasn't even very involved with Goosebumps as a kid and I remember that episode of the show vividly because the shock and tragedy of it really stuck with me. Perfect choice for the One Good Monster imo. she and Jack Black were pretty much the saving grace of this movie

If I said that The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England is the book with the most dystopic setting Brandon Sanderson has ever written and could also be considered cosmic horror would I even need to elaborate or...

This is going to be unpopular opinion but the scene between Percy and Poseidon in the last episode is so disappointing. I do appreciate the few moments that we got and Toby Stephens is hella talented but they literally included only one of Poseidon's iconic lines, the one about "the sea does not like to be restrained". Where's the "You are a true son of the sea god", "Your mother is a queen amongst women", "I brought you a hero's fate and a hero's fate is never anything but tragic", "Whatever else you do, know that you are mine". I get the significance of Poseidon surrendering to Zeus to save Percy's life but it just seems something is missing without Poseidon's acknowledgement, reassurance and pride towards Percy from the book. This could have been fixed if this scene was just five minutes longer so that Percy and Poseidon could have their heart to heart properly. UGH

Okay but are dating apps hard for everyone to use? I literally have to sit and agonize over swiping right on someone for days. I gotta mentally map out every potential conversation and subsistent 50 years of marriage I could have with the stranger based on the allotted paragraph bio.

my unpopular opinion is that idc much about the barbie movie not because of "internalized misogyny" or whatever (i genuinely have no bad feelings towards it, i'm even mildly curious actually... and i like margot robbie as an actress) but because i don't care for greta gelwig's movies in general

Okay no but srsly?? What are ur thoughts on Colleen Hoover? Am I the crazy one for not liking the hype????
Never read her books, I tried reading it ends with us but I got bored after reading the first page 😭 it's a bit too wordy for me especially since I read on my phone and the lack of spacing makes me cross-eyed.
I've seen some weird shit about her books though, the one engraved into my memory is the snippet about the balls. I see it everywhere.

finished Harrow the Ninth. Gideon is still the only thing I care about whatsoever (I do love Harrow, but it's different, Gideon makes me want to explode). Spent the whole book just waiting for her to be back (ya ya part of it was her pov watching Harrow but it wasn't Her her ya know) and she finally came back and I almost cried. Genuinely, she is EVERYTHING to me
#I didn't like God and then I was kind of warming to him and now I hate him thank fuck. I don't like liking God lol#I was pretty meh on the old lyctors. They got some funny moments but that was kind of all I felt for them#For the few paragraphs I've known her I like Pyrrha#Ianthe I have complicated feelings about. On the one hand I do really enjoy seeing a fucked up women just be fucked up#and she is so nasty and that's great.... But I honestly went into it thinking (based on fandom) that I would end up loving her and I don't#not even as a love to hate or grudging love. I actually think she sounds gross? Which I appreciate!! Don't get me wrong. I like a gross lady#but just the way she's described and the way she acts she almost makes me uncomfortable. like makes my skin crawl sort of vibe#which is super cool cause I honestly don't get that often. She feels slimy. Which is not a thing women are often#so like. I like her A Lot as a character. But I don't actually like Her. if that makes sense#also I think most fanart makes her wayyyyyy too attractive#uhhhhhh the ghosts were fun but I don't really have strong feelings about them in any direction#hmmmm other thoughts... these books don't help with my desire to get rid of all my possessions. being a nun of the ninth house sounds great#which i don't really think is a take away i'm supposed to be getting from this lol#other than that i am just spinning in circles in my head chanting gideon gideon gideon gideon gideon gideon gideon gideon gideon

2023 reads // twitter thread
The Battle Drum
sequel to The Final Strife, a queer Ghanian/Arabian high fantasy world where people are divided by blood colour
the nightly hurricanes are getting more deadly, and Sylah travels to unknown lands to discover the truth and find help
meanwhile Anoor is trying to manage her new political position while framed for a murder she didn’t commit
#The Battle Drum#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#okay I do feel similarly about this as I did the first one...really love a lot of what’s going on I just feel like some of the structure/plo#plot focus could b better#like the first one fell back on the generic competition framework which I felt was meh....this one does that a bit with murder mystery#it had a cool  in-universe summary of book 1#something about the politics/past/worldbuiling feels…I wanted some more connection or complexity or something?#or maybe i just expect more from adult fantasy#anoor's naivety got a little frustrating at time#like the murderer was pretty obvious#I love: cool new cities! glass city! MUSHROOM CITY#when sylah sees a camel and describes it in the most 'weird unknown fantasy creature' kind of way#I still find zines weirdly anachronistic.......when magazines don't exist in the world...#but I can give that a pass I guess#there's also an aroace side character (has some POV) who I have......mixed feelings about?#an interesting complex character but also. is SA'd for years before she finally decides t kill her husband#then becomes an antagonistic cult leader#I don't think that's INHERENTLY a bad thing; but idk; why was that a choice? maybe she'll be redeemed (for lack of a better word) next book#anyway all of these critiques are very much like. this has the potential to be in my favourite kind of books ever and doesn't QUITE reach my#expectations..........so like it is very good. I just ahhhhh want slightly more/different things#oh also jond and kitten was good. I still hate him for being the perpertrator of my Least Favourite Trope but. he has a baby kitten....#wait i should also mention the plot twist of who the person is is pretty good#didn't figure that one out#but going back through highlight notes i was like oh...there was clues...

Rating books by how fitting their titles are, Martha Wells edition:
---
The Cloud Roads - Not literal, but aplicable. They fly. The clouds are their roads. It works.
The Serpent Sea - yeah, there's a sea. And there sure as fucking hell is a sea serpent in it.
The Siren Depths- oh yeah, the depths. The depths that call like a siren. the siren depths.
The Edge of Worlds - yeah, it sure as shit is
The Harbors of the Sun- YEAH!!!!!!! THEY SURE ARE!!!!!!
---
City of Bones - no, not really. yes there's a city but bones are mentioned offhand one time as being at all important and they were not important in this story. No one tried to steal Khat's bones. If that were a common occurrence this title would be warranted but it's not.
---
Wheel of the Infinite - I guess. This book was really boring though so IDRC. It wasn't even really a wheel, more like a mural. Mural of the Infinite. Map of the Infinite. Window of the Infinite. Mirror of the Infinite. many titles can be just as vague.
---
The Wizard Hunters - yes they do in fact hunt wizards
The Ships of Air - yes there are air ships. flying whales you might say. But they were in the first one and they aren't any more relevant in this one so I don't know why that's the title.
The Gate of Gods - ? sure? I mean they were also literally in the first one. This could have been a name for the first book. Why is it the name for the third one? It's not like this is new information.
---
Razor's Edge - of what. No. has nothing to do with the story. The story is not dramatic or suspenseful enough for a title like this. Very misleading.
---
Reliquary - yes, that is the purpose of a reliquary. Martha Wells are you autistic.
---
All Systems Red - no, not all the systems are red. most of them are working just fine. Overdramatic and misleading.
Artificial Condition - ???? no??? has literally nothing to do with the story.
Rogue Protocol - what does this even mean. This could have worked for the title for the second book but how does this have anything to do with this story
Exit Strategy - no not really. it's not a strategy it's two steps and the first one requires the enemy be unconscionably usesless and incompetant so it's not even a plan. It's just "oh I hope our enemie decides to sabatogue themselves for no reason" and then they do!!!
Fugitive Telemetry - ??? no? what
Network Effect - literally where. only by the most absurd stretching of the imagination. This is just a bad name. There are so many other things you could call this book that would better identify the story it tells. You could have made puns about the word "transmission" but sure, Network Effect totally works /sarcasm
