Alright so, this does take place immediately after the war and they are stated to be together. Age Aang up, age Zuko down, whatever makes you comfortable, I just had an idea I found funny when I read this prompt and I wrote it.
Anyway, this is kinda crack taken seriously
-<>-
Zuko watched as Katara took her brother from Suki. “There's a medical wing just inside, to the right.” He let her know. He refrained from mentioning that the medical wing was specifically there for Agni Kais. Now that he had the power to, he was going to make sure an Agni Kai never happened on those grounds again.
Katara nodded and started leading Sokka toward the building before she noticed Zuko wasn't following. “Aren't you coming? You still need help, I could only do so much.”
Zuko shook his head. “No, I need to take my place now, before everything falls to chaos because there's no firelord.”
Katara didn't look quite pleased about it, but she nodded. “Just, be careful Zuko.”
Zuko gave a small smile, more grateful than ever that the group had let him in. That they'd found a way to forgive them. He'd only really known Katara for a few weeks, yet she'd already had a better effect on his life than the majority of people in it.
On the tail end of that thought, he turned to the person he was most grateful for. “Aren't you joining them?”
Aang raised an eyebrow at him. “Are you kidding? And let you go in there alone? No.” He walked up to take Zuko's hand. “We finish this together.” He said it with a smile that made Zuko truly believe in a better future.
Nodding, Zuko led Aang in a different direction than the others, taking the long route so he could enter through the front of the palace where the soldiers and palace attendants were gathered, expecting to see his father return, triumphant and powerful.
He relished in the surprise on their faces when he came through instead. He knew he was probably a sorry sight, what with the lightning strike on full display, but part of him was proud of it and wanted them to see it, like it was a declaration to them that nothing, not even a lightning strike to the heart, could take him down.
He took a deep breath. When he'd originally pictured coming home if they won, he imagined he'd have diplomatic words and could take control with grace. Having come face to face with death, he found he no longer cared about that.
“The Firelord has been defeated.” He called out, making sure his voice could be heard across the great foyer. “His bending has been stripped from him by the Avatar. Princess Azula has also been defeated by me in an Agni Kai. I'm taking my rightful place on the throne.” He spoke in a tone that dared anyone to protest.
No one did, but he did notice them glancing nervously behind him. He turned to find Aang just standing there, watching him with pride.
Turning back to the crowd, Zuko gestured to Aang. “This is the avatar.” After a few seconds of thought, and another realization that he no longer gave a fuck about much, he continued. “Also my boyfriend. Disrespect him and I will exile you.” A ripple of surprised and confused sounds went through the people.
“He's joking.” He heard Aang pipe up behind him.
Zuko looked back at Aang. “I am?”
Aang gave him a look. “Yes.”
Zuko once again went back to addressing the crowd. “I'm joking.” The people looked as doubtful as he was about that statement. “But there will be consequences to anyone who tries to contest me, the avatar, or any of the avatar's friends. The war is over and a lot is going to change. You can change with it, or you can leave.”
Zuko watched them all stand in uncomfortable and frightened silence and decided that was good enough.
“Great.” He nodded. He reached back to grab Aang's hand again to drag him farther into the palace, unsure of where he intended to go, but not wanting to backtrack after his speech. The crowd parted before them and Zuko continued through, grateful when no one followed.
Once they turned down a hallway and could no longer be seen, Zuko let out a relieved breath. “That could have gone worse.”
“I think you did great.” Aang encouraged cheerfully.
Zuko turned to give him a grateful look, but stopped as he noticed something. “Aang?”
“Yeah?”
“Are,” he hesitated, “are you more red than you were a few minutes ago? I can't tell if it's a trick of the light.”
“Uh,” Aang looked down at himself and seemed to recognize that, yes, he was turning quite red, “the fight was really hot.”
Realizing the red was rising surface burns, alarm immediately rang in Zuko. “What? Why are you here? You need to go to the medical wing!”
Aang maintained eye contact for a few moments before looking pointedly down at Zuko's chest. “Uh.”
Zuko sighed, “Okay yes, we both need to go to the medical wing, I get it.” With a destination in mind again, Zuko continued leading Aang through the palace, occasionally glancing over. “Seriously though, you are really red.”
Aang's facial expression went flat. “It was really hot.”

Thinking about the portal incident again How it was never explained what caused the portal to appear, was Light Hope involved, was it someone else or was it wild magic. Was it planned or was it a pure random and luck How it saved Hordak from certain death. How it saved him from Prime How it appeared at the right place at the very right time. And had this happened a day late or anywhere else on the front lines, he most likely wouldn't have survived
Tumblr media
How in that moment on the battlegrounds Hordak probably no longer believed he could be saved and just accepted his fate
How he might've as well been mere weeks/days old and his life could've ended before it even began. And he was ready to accept it
How in his mind he might have thought he was dying. And how confused and defeated he must have felt once he realized that he was still alive. That this portal did not kill him, but rather took away his chance at doing something "right", the last chance at pleasing his god. How he might've saw himself as an even bigger failure, because he couldn't even die right
How this sudden brutal separation from Prime and the Hive Mind was necessary and, in retrospect, was the best thing to ever happen to Hordak. How by physically cutting all the ties he had to the Horde and the known universe, some random portal did more to protect Hordak than most people in his life ever did
How Hordak himself viewed his situation not as a miracle but as fate worse than death. How at first he only felt immense pain, fear and grief, like a very young child whom was forcebly taken away from their abusive family. How he did not understand that it was good for him and only wished to return home and see his brother again. How Hordak wasted years of his life trying to find him. How his indoctrination, loyalty and love were stronger even than such powerful magic/technology
How Hordak had no idea what to do with himself at first, for he never thought he would've lasted this long. For he was not meant to live that long. And yet, he no longer welcomed death and once again found will to live. He did not let himself give up this time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How he's been looking for a portal home, hoping that one day it's going to appear again. How eventually, tired of waiting, he decided to create a portal of his own. How it became his life's work
How it was a portal that sent Adora to Etheria, someone who will one day free Hordak and the entire universe from Prime. How, if he wasn't waiting for another portal this entire time, no one would've come for her and Adora could've died on that field. But Hordak was there, and (as best as he could) he took care of someone who ended up in the same situation he was in
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How it was a portal that brought Hordak to Etheria, and into Entrapta's lonely life. How they would've never met each other if it wasnt for that incident
How it was a portal that invited Entrapta into his life and helped him connect with a person who will forever change his life. How it was a portal that became a catalist for their friendship (and love)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How the "natural" portal that sent Hordak to Etheria can represent real connections and the painful process of growth and change (seeing new places, meeting new people, trying new things, distancing from harmful enviroment, learning independence, being responsible for oneself and others)
Tumblr media
How the "artificial" portal Hordak created himself can represent desire to return to this false safety of the past, where everything was simple and familiar, as well as his desperate wish to rebuild his connection with Prime. A connection that was never there. How it was falling apart from the start, how at first Entrapta was so eager to help her friend succeed, but eventually realized that the portal was dangerous. How in the end it only hurt Hordak and everyone around him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How the portal that appeared "naturally" gave him not what he wanted, but what he needed. A safe place, people who understand him, a chance at better life, his personhood. How, after the "artificial" portal gave him something he thought he wanted, Hordak went back to square one. How, in reality, it only took everything from him
Portals, man...

"As for the government of the kingdom, [Edward V] had complete confidence in the peers of realm and the queen."
"According to the Crowland continuator, [Elizabeth Woodville] seems to have taken the king's place in listening to his council immediately after Edward IV's death. It does appear that she expected to have some role in her son's kingship, and the Crowland continuator’s report of the letters sent to her by [Richard of Gloucester] indicates that she had good reason to expect to be able to work with him and the other councillors: 'the duke of Gloucester wrote the most pleasant letters to console the queen; he promised to come and offer submission, fealty and all that was due from him to his lord and king, Edward V, the first-born son of his brother the dead king and the queen'."
"[However], in what was Gloucester's first coup, Edward V was separated from his household and Woodville advisors. When the young king questioned the move, Buckingham was reported to have told the boy 'It is not in the business of women but men to govern kingdoms'. The blunt remark referred to the authority of Elizabeth Woodville as queen and the power she must have anticipated within the new political climate left by Edward IV's sudden death [...] While the veracity of this scene is questionable*, the words attributed to the duke no doubt seemed plausible to Dominic Mancini who believed they exemplified the popular sentiment held by men [...]."
-Dominic Mancini, The Usurpation of Richard the Third / J.L. Laynesmith, The Last Medieval Queens: English Queenship 1445-1503 / Alexander R. Brondarbit, Power Brokers and the Yorkist State, 1461-1485
*One of Mancini's key sources seems to have been Edward V's own doctor, John Argentine, who attended to him in the Tower. It's very likely that he was the one who recounted this scene to Mancini, which suggests that it should probably be considered more credible than not.
#historicwomendaily#elizabeth woodville#wars of the roses#15th century#english history#my post#Croyland wrote that 'The counsellors of the king - now deceased - were present with the queen' so yes#He clearly seemed to view Elizabeth as taking on Edward's role after his death#Which is striking since her son - the new King - hadn't even arrived in London yet let alone be crowned#It's also interesting that Richard wrote letters to *her* rather than the rest of the council and that she was the final deciding authority#when it came to her son (she was the one who wrote to him for his military escort) - it's a clear indication of who was seen as important#This is also reflected in 16th century chronicles like the claim that the Archbishop of York gave Elizabeth the Great Seal#We don't know if this is true - the Archbishop was definitely opposed to Richard but More may have embellished or invented the story#But either way it reflects the perception that Elizabeth would have a major role in the realm's governance during her son's minority#Which makes sense as Edward V would have been used to his mother governing for him as part of his council his whole life#It's also interesting to compare the impression we get of Elizabeth's role with that of former kings' mothers in late medieval England#Because that can help us understand her activities (and perception of them) within proper context rather than purely in isolation#From what I understand kings' mothers could be very influential (eg: Joan of Kent) but were almost never visibly/directly associated#with the governance of the realm. It's striking that the most extreme and arguably the only exception - Isabella of France - assumed#her unofficial regent-like role only after literally deposing the former King aka her husband in the most atypical situation imaginable#So it's striking that Elizabeth *was* visibly and directly associated with it despite her situation being entirely standard; despite the#lack of precedents; and despite the physical absence of her son. Especially since she was effectively the king's mother for only 20 days#I do think it's possible to argue that it says something about her power as queen#(Edward *did* give her unusual positions of authority either way) and may also suggest a more direct personality on her part#It may also explain why historians were/are so readily prepared to believe that she wanted to 'usurp the sovereignty' to quote George Buck#Ofc this is my interpretation based on my (limited) knowledge - feel free to correct me

persona 4 COULD have been a groundbreaking game in late 2000's early 2010's. it could have been a " mainstream " (mainstream in moderately sized quotes!) game that showed complex, flawed queer people as the main characters. but it doesn't. it heavily implies its characters are queer, changes its mind, and then produces some of the most homophobic and transphobic writing you've seen in a long time. persona 4 wants to make something beautiful so bad but it feels like its too afraid to actually do anything and ends up going back to its old homophobic/transphobic tropes.

fuck it friday 🎄
what a day. WHAT A DAY.
have a lil snip of deck the family. it'll be finished tonight or tomorrow, so this might be the last lil thing i share before i post it in full, how exciting!!!
He finds Margaret sitting at the island drinking a mug of tea in the dark, with only the light from the miniature Christmas tree illuminating the space between them. He says nothing as he flicks on the light above the sink and swallows back four pills, gripping the countertop after he finishes his glass and sets it aside.  “Why are you still awake?”  “I was making sure you were going to come back,” she answers. “I wasn’t sure if you were going to.”   He’s sure it isn’t meant as a slight, but it feels like one and he scoffs, anyway. “I was always going to come back,” he says, turning around to face her. “This is my home. My husband and our son are here. I was never going to stay away for long.”  She doesn’t say anything for a moment, holding the mug between her hands and watching the liquid ripple as Eddie walks nearer. If he’s going to have a conversation with her, he wants to be on even terms.  “Do you love him?”  “Yes,” he replies without hesitation. “I love him more than you’ll ever know.”  “He deserves that.”  Eddie nods. “He does. He deserves to have anything he wants.” He grips the edge of the counter separating them. “And there’s nobody in the world who can give it to him better than me.”  “I believe you.” She smiles, lets go of the mug, and reaches both hands out toward him. He gathers them between his because if she’s offering to meet him halfway he thinks he should meet her in the middle. “Thank you for loving him.”  “I don’t need anything from you.”  Her smile widens. “I know, Eddie,” she says, quietly. “Neither of you do. Take it anyway, please.”

I am just somehow OBSESSED with Takeru DRIVING. Like is he a bad driver? He speeds past the gang waiting outside of Daisuke's restaurant (or the restaurant where Daisuke works, whatever), so maybe? Is that his mom's car? Or is it his car? Why does he NEED a car? What is he doing that requires him to drive? Is it going to be a plot point in the movie? Is Takeru being a BAD DRIVER going to be a plot point? I need to know.
Ken and Miyako are also visibly startled when Takeru speeds past (Miyako JUMPS!!!!), while Iori and Hikari don't even flinch. What does that say about DYNAMIC?! Are Iori and Hikari more used to Takeru's (presumably bad) driving? That would make sense, no, cause they are (canonically???) closer with him? Just such a small interaction and I can interpret so much and draw so many conclusions!!! How fun!!!
There's just something really so fun about watching characters you've loved your whole life continue to grow - to see new details about them spring up, new traits, new things to add to canon. It's the most delightful thing about the Digimon Adventure franchise to me. Sure, the stories they have told over the last decade have mostly been all various shades of mediocre, but the character moments - goodness, the character moments just don't hit the same in any other media for me. It's so special to me.
ETA: WAIT, looking at the screencap, Iori looks slightly concerned. Only Hikari looks calm (though she does turn her whole body to look at the car once it stops). Does this mean HIKARI is the only one comfortable with his driving? Cause Hikari is closest to him? (I don't even think their closeness is something that is debatable - I feel like it is PRETTY CANON that they are closest with each other???????????)
HERE'S HOW TAKARI CAN STILL WIN.
