The thing about David Tennant is that you can claim he is not the best actor in the world, you can claim that he is not the hottest actor in the world, but what you cannot deny is that he is the Most Microwaveable

Phileas Fogg and Touch Aversion
I'm going to try to resurrect a post I had written on twitter a while ago when I still had an account there (and when it was still called twitter). It's long, so bear with me, and do keep in mind that these are just my hc's and there's always room for interpretation.
***
So one thing that becomes clear about Phileas from the start is how much he tries to avoid physical touch. Even with those he knows well, like Grayson. Look at how stiff he is here, how he avoids eye contact, how he leans back a tiniest bit.
Tumblr media
This physical discomfort is even more obvious with strangers, of course. Especially with strangers who threatened and intimidated him only hours earlier. Even when the contact is no longer a threatening one (you all remember senor Moretti, yes?)
Tumblr media
Remember the aborted hugs? The man is so excited to see Passepartout alive that he forgets himself for a moment....
Tumblr media
...only to remember at the last minute and have the hug become nothing more than an awkward (safe?) handshake
Tumblr media
or, in Abigail's case, a near-pat on the arms
Tumblr media
But it's something deeper than just simple intimacy avoidance. There seems to be a discomfort, a fear almost of physical closeness with ADULTS. I'm going to veer onto a slight tangent here that ties into my hc about Fogg's childhood and take a look at this scene in the desert:
Tumblr media
Remember how incredulous Passepartout was when Fogg asked him to move because he, ostensibly, couldn't pee otherwise? "I thought you went to boarding school" he said, the implication being "why are you so afraid of having someone stand next to you when you pee?"
Tumblr media
The whole situation is funny to Passepartout (and meant to be so to us as well), but Fogg doesn't appear to be amused in the slightest. He pleads, actually pleads with Passepartout to move. And look at how uncomfortable he is. How he tries to block out Passepartout's presence.
And look at this moment here. This is where Passepartout whips out his joystick &starts watering the sand. Look at that cringe, that nervous swallow. I'm not saying this man was definitely traumatized in boarding school, but... he was definitely traumatized at boarding school
Tumblr media
This is not to say that he can't handle physical contact at all. He can and does when the situation demands it. When it's a matter of life or death, for instance.
Tumblr media
But notice the reluctance, the uncertainty even here.
Tumblr media
The only time he DOESN'T hesitate? When someone else needs it, needs HIM.
Tumblr media
When it's him alone however? Even when the touch isn't remotely threatening?
Tumblr media
He freaks out and tries to run.
Tumblr media
And when running is not an option? Freezes like a deer in the headlights.
This moment here shocked him so completely that he drew a blank on all thought, and it wasn't until the lieutenant had uttered the word "coward" - the word that keeps driving him forward - that he snapped out of it
Tumblr media
It's different, of course, when it's Estella.
Tumblr media
He doesn't shy away from her touch. Welcomes it instead.
Tumblr media
Initiates the hug and follows through
Tumblr media
Estella is safe. Estella cares about him. Estella would never hurt him. But that kind of safety, that kind of certainty - it doesn't exist where other adults are concerned. Not yet. So he errs on the side of caution and stays back when everyone around him is hugging and celebrating
Tumblr media
Doesn't respond to enthusiastic shoulder pats and friendly arm squeezes when he makes his triumphant return home. He looks uncomfortable. Lost. Wary.
Tumblr media
Compare that to Abigail's reaction in the same scene
Tumblr media
But there are also others whom Phileas is comfortable with, in addition to Estella. Those whom he doesn't view as a threat: kids.
Look here at Alberto plopping to sit down right next to him. Phileas doesn't even flinch. Accepts his presence easily with no discomfort shown
Tumblr media
Smiles at Alberto just as easily, too.
Tumblr media
Look at Noori here. She grabs him by the hand, drags him behind her. He doesn't mind one bit.
Tumblr media
Look at Fogg's reaction when that girl runs out to hug him. He is surprised but not frightened. He goes soft and maybe even a little happy. He hugs her back. He thanks her.
Tumblr media
Now look at the difference when Abigail goes to do the same. He stiffens immediately. Pulls back. His whole posture screams "get away".
Tumblr media
It doesn't mean he doesn't WANT the physical touch. He does. Longs for it, in fact.
Tumblr media
But he believes he lost his chance for this closeness, he mourns the loss of it, and he doesn't think it's for him anymore. He's also likely afraid to test if what he believes is true.
Tumblr media
BUT... But... There's a silver lining to all this. Because there IS character growth for him in more ways than one, and he DOES become braver and stronger in more ways than one. And in the end he DOES dare to reach out and he DOES find the courage to NOT pull away.
Tumblr media
If you've gotten this far, thank you for reading :) And please come check out my ATWI80D fics where all of this is explored in greater (and angstier) detail. ;)

In honour of his birthday, I'm going to rant about some of my favourite roles of the global treasure (yes, I'm promoting him from the ‘national’ status), David Tennant. Feel free to add your own.💙
Tumblr media
Fourteen Doctor: This might seem like an odd choice to start with when there are popular choices like the Tenth Doctor and Crowley, but this character holds a very special place in my heart. I've been a fan of DT for about 6 years now and it started with Doctor Who. I love Ten but Fourteen is just more dear to me. Mostly because he made me excited again for one of my favourite TV shows. As a character, he has all the trademark qualities of the Doctor - the genius level intellect, endless compassion, and love for new adventures. But he is somehow more mature and softer, and I loved this development. Also, that blue coat and that (1) button - you know what I'm talking about.
Phileas Fogg: Such an underrated TV show. The chemistry of the trio, the adventures, the title sequence music - there's so much to love about this. And Fogg is such a real character. So far from perfect, this man will often appear as aloof, vain, self-absorbed and even a coward. But I think Phileas is one of the best roles ever played by Tennant. Yes, he's flawed but he's also intelligent, so incredibly kind, and yes, even brave. If you haven't watched this show, I highly recommend it.
Alec Hardy: So different from most other charming roles of DT, Hardy is a sad wet cat. He's grumpy, not nice, and just really tired of the world (who can't relate though?). His reluctant friendship with Ellie is one of the best parts of the grim show. And the fanfic lover in me can't stop screaming about how whumpable he is.
Crowley: I was going for the top three kind of ranking but the thin dark duke slithered his way over. And how can you not love Anthony J. Crowley? From this pure delightful joy while creating stars and nebulae (I can't get over David's face and the happy noises he makes in this scene) to his reluctant and vast love for his Angel and the earth, Crowley is very easy to fall in love with (take notes, Aziraphale. I know you love him but please use your words. Crowley, at least, tried).
I wanted to add more characters, especially the Shakespearean ones (I love Hamlet, but Benedick has my heart), but the list won't simply ever end then. So, I'm just going to say name all the ones I love and end it here - Simon Yates (There She Goes), Dave Tyler (Single Father), Campbell Bain (Takin' over the Asylum), Harry Watling aka The Sexy Vicar (Inside Man, this show was so freaking stressful but I loved David's character), every single Shakespearean character he ever played (even the ones I haven't or probably won't ever get the chance to see - cries in Macbeth), and, of course, Scrooge McDuck (DuckTales).
So, thank you DT for gifting the world with some of the best, most adorable, wholesome, gender-enviable characters to ever exist. (Except for the creeps, freaks, and ruthless murderers, which we kind of love as well). Happy Birthday! 💙

Hi! Your blog was recommended by a fellow mutual. Do you mind, please introduce me to "Around the world in 80 days"? Spoilers are fine, I don't usually watch something without seeing spoilers 😆
'Ello 'Ello 'Ello!!!
Indeed my good sir you have come to the right place. Since you have asked sit back and enjoy because I will now most certainly yap. Also I am really sorry for taking this long to answer but I have so many asks in my inbox it gets hard to answer all of them on time and my queue is literally clogged rn.
I don't know if you have watched the other adaptations of this book but this one is brilliant (unlike the others). In fact the magic of the series is that the show makes the book actually good! As a person who comes from a country colonised by the brits when I first read the book something about it felt off. Turns out it was the heavy dose od colonial gaze! And the movie (the Jackie Chan one) did nothing to fix it. Also both the movie and the book get a lot of cultural things wrong. The series however fixes it. I love the way it celebrates and respects the diversity of cultural experiences, where indigenous peoples in every country are shown as for lack of better word 'the good guys' and the colonisers as 'the bad guys'!
There's this scene in India where the village chief (who is a woman) just ends the feigned British superiority right in Phileas Fogg's face and the beauty of it is that he accepts it (instead of wanting to assert some toxic white guy masculinity). So the writing is immaculate.
Also I saw a lot of people for saying it made the story too woke. Heck yeah it did. If saying racism sucks, making the main romantic plot between a white woman and a black guy and showing women as the smart and strong ones at every turn (like when they are in Arabia), saving the men, and the men as compassionate and not toxic and macho, and ending classism is woke then yeah!
I really liked the fact that they erased the romantic arc with Phileas and Auoda as seen in the book that was so deeply disturbing on so many levels (white guy saves Indian woman from oppressive patriarchal structures in her oppressive backward society by marrying her. how wonderful! /s Mr. Fogg can we take a minute to talk about the oppressive treatment of women in your own Victorian society!) Love that instead they made him to the old man father figure to the two main leads. Passepartout is the lead! And how wonderful to have a black person play the romantic charismatic lead in a previously heavily white story. I like the romantic plot they did give Phileas tho. Beautiful, tender, heartwarming and a lot more in character with how the series version of him is!
The crucible is again wonderful. I love how the rewriting fixed A LOT of the problems with the book's plot. It gave the story a purpose. Phileas's actions have a deeper purpose not just a white man's gamble. Passepartout's actions have a deeper reason. Not just some dim-witted side character who's tagging along for the joy ride. The crucible is not just some policeman going after them for no reason whatsoever. It's far more complex than that. The villain has deeper motivations (wink wink @spiteful-summer-of-sixteen !) that are intertwined with their backstories.
Can we talk about the acting!!! AMAZING! All round brilliant performances. Also pretty people everywhere! Leonie Benesch has my heart! And how pretty is Ibrahim Koma!! David Tennant's hair in this thing deserves a whole sperate award. That moustache is supposed to look bAd. supposed to. But he's making it look GOOD! how?
Cinematography. wonderful. Filmmaking and direction. Immaculate.
Full of wholesome scenes that will make you cry from the warmth of it all, and sad scenes that will make you cry from the tragedy of it, and silly scenes that will make you laugh so hard that you'll be having tears in your eyes.
10000000000/10 would definitely recommend. In fact I will sneak into your house and make you watch it! lol jk.
Did I miss something???!! I don't think.

Doctor Who status report! and from a couple other shows too because we are both head over heels in love with David Tennant and are watching all his body of work lmao
Alright so we finished DW S5 and are two episodes into S6 and I'll say 11th has grown on me a lot since my last report! Matt is so cute! we enjoyed the episode "The Lodger" it had some of that feeling I was missing from the previous seasons I think, and the two final episodes of S5 were cool!! And S6 started strong with the first two-parter, we are...so confused but in a good way? It's different and the writing quality wobbles but we are enjoying it very much nonetheless! I do feel like some of the values and handling of certain topics has been inconsistent since the writer swap so it feels a bit strange sometimes but it's still early so we'll wait and see! OH and the christmas special was so lovely!!
Then we also watched "Casanova" BBC 2005 miniseries for David and IT WAS SO GOOD honestly we were not expecting much and we both ended up crying lmao, it's also so funny!!
And we also watched "Around the World in 80 days" 2021!! It may not be very loyal to the book but it's great on it's own and so adorable and fun and SO BEAUTIFUL!! the locations, the costumes!! David's Phileas Fogg is the most loveable pathetic wet cat of a man just the absolute babygirlest I've seen him, this show was made for me I swear to god I was clutching my knees the whole season, please watch it!! I think it's getting a second season inspired by Twenty thousand leagues under the seas? I hope it does 🥺
Oh and belated Happy Halloween!! I didn't manage to draw anything for it this year but we did dress up as Edwardian vampires and went out! I think half of Madrid asked to take a picture with us and yet I didn't take any good ones askjfh but it was so fun, everyone was so nice to us 😭 The weather also got very cold and rainy all of a sudden and we are elated!! it's wool coat, gloves, hats and boots season again, I'm at my most powerful!!
Anyway I go back to drawing for now, hopefully I will be able to squeeze in some fanart and photos soon 😊

Summer 2023 Anime Overview: Undead Murder Farce and My Happy Marriage
Tumblr media
Undead Murder Farce
Premise: Our story takes place in Victorian times/the Meji Era. Tsugaru is a half-oni (demon) and half human as a result of a mysterious man doing horrible experimentation on him. He’s approached by Aya Rindo, an immortal woman who has been reduced to a head (transported in a birdcage by her combat-saavy maid Shizuku) because the same man beheaded her and stole her body. They agree to team up to find the man and hopefully get Aya’s body back. As they look for the man, they travel Europe and to solve mysteries related to monsters and inhumans.
Undead Murder Farce was definitely my show of the summer season. It’s a fun mystery series starring three asshole weirdo protagonists, it’s bursting with monsters and demons and bizarre people, full of references to Victorian literature and rakugo and all kinds of nerdy stuff, it’s got stylish, slick direction from Mamoru Hatekayama (you know him from Kaguya: Love is War, and Rakugo Shinju) and it’s really gay.
The trio of Aya, Tsugaru, and Shizuku all have really have a snarky comfortable friend dynamic and their banter as they solve vampire murder mysteries, try to outsmart Arsene Lupin and a gang of Victorian literary monsters, and investigate a werewolf village and it makes for an entertaining watch. Aya will never stop making stupid jokes about how she’s just a head in a cage, and we love her for it.
Tumblr media
The “let’s stuff in every Victorian public domain character we can” arc is where the show really starts to shine (though unlike some others, I do still really like the vampire murder mystery arc a lot—I just love the idea of a vampire murder mystery, and we really get a good feel for the cast. It’s definitely the weakest arc of the series, though). UDM gets to whip out all its literary nerd credentials. The case involves: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Arsene Lupin, The Phantom of the Opera, Carmilla, Frankenstein’s Monster, Aleister Crowley, Phileas Fogg and two surprise characters.
And yes, they remember that Carmilla is gay, which automatically puts in above 99.9% adaptations of the character. They do make her older and WAY more of a sexpot than the novel version, which, eh,  but she’s 100% the ultra-campy Blueprint Problematic Lesbian Vampire she deserves to be. Like in the novel, she exclusively feeds on and seduces women and she gets into a deeply sapphic rivalry with Shizuku, who she tries to subdue and toy with using her vampire powers. (As you can expect from the character, there is the assault stuff that comes with that territory, though they don’t go too far with it, she kisses Shizuku's neck and messes up her shirt a bit).
But also, we find out Shizuku is used to making love with someone who has “centuries” on Carmilla and is “far more experienced ”, which can only be Aya. This is further confirmed when Shizuku shows jealousy over Tsugaru and Aya’s transactional kiss in the next arc and Tsugaru has to reassure her. And then Shizuku just CONTINUES to stumble into sapphic situations. She gets surrounded by naked ladies and bonds with them like twice in the last arc. It’s great. Everyone thought it might be be Aya/Tsugaru at the beginning, but turns out UDM is For the Gays and it straightbaited you. Amazing.
It's not just Carmilla that UDM shows off its nerd (and gay) credentials with—there’s the interesting choice to make the Phantom of Persian descent, which is clever as a reference to the Phantom’s time in Persia in the original novel AND adds an extra layer to the “unfairly treated as an outcast” element of the character. (Lupin and the Phantom also team up in the story and give off such strong gay energy (Lupin especially) that a lot of people ship them). And like in the novel, Frankenstein’s Monster is smart and even functions as the more level-headed one in the villain gang.
All of that stuff is catnip to me, but the best part of UDM is following it’s convoluted mysteries and seeing Aya strut her stuff figuring the them out while everyone gets in cool fights. It’s very good at what it does, and it’s a fun romp with some interesting themes about being on the margins of society and what makes an outcast simmering underneath. I had a great time with it, and I’m aching to see more of these scrappy misfits and their adventures. If you’re here for a campy but intelligent mystery series about lovable weirdos with a side order of gay, absolutely check this one out!

My Happy Marriage
Premise: Miyo was born without supernatural talents despite her father's expectations, and after her mother passes away, her father and stepfamily treat her abusively and use her as a servant. Miyo's family sticks her with an arranged marriage to Kiyoka Kudou, a man with a reputation for being cold and cruel. However, she quickly finds he’s not what he seems, and she slowly begins to gain confidence in herself.
My Happy Marriage is a straightforward Cinderella story, but one that actually focuses on the psychological effects of being abused and the slow recovery and healing journey of its protagonist. Even if she's not with her abusive family anymore, Miyo still has completely shit self esteem and even just running into her Evil Stepsister ™ in the street sends her reeling back to where she started, consumed by fear and sadness. The story is about her finding a place where she’s loved and supported, and slowly gaining confidence, and her and her husband learning to communicate. She’s still shy, domestic, and very devoted to being proper for her husband throughout, and sometimes needs help, but her learning to let herself be loved and learning to find her own strength and power is the focus of the story. It shows how many obstacles you have to bravely face just to move forward after trauma. And in the end, Miyo finds her own way to save the day. I think that’s really valuable.
Though, like in the original Cinderella story, there is the issue of the pure, domestic woman being contrasted with evil, conniving, social climbing women (though at least there’s no “and they’re also ugly” thing going, and they have her dad be shitty too). It wasn’t bothering me too much--even the ‘training to be a proper wife’ stuff Miyo decides to do since it wasn't out of place in the Meiji era setting-- until Miyo met her sister-in-law. Sis is a divorced woman and a little more “modern” and forward than Miyo and I was excited at first, because hey, a woman in this story who doesn’t fit either the ‘demure’ or ‘evil’ archetypes. But then it turned out her tragic backstory was that she’s a shitty cook and therefore failed to be a proper woman for her husband’s family and her in-laws drove her to divorce, which she 100% blames herself and her lack of domestic skil and 'unwillingness to compromise" with her mean in-laws for. She’s not challenged on this attitude at all. I can easily see a future plotline where she reunites with her ex-husband and he reveals he didn’t mind the cooking or something, but as it stands, it’s pretty disheartening and I don't see why it was a thing.
Still, Miyo’s arc is cathartic and well done, and the animation absolutely beautiful throughout. It’s nice seeing a story focusing on recovery that focuses on the small triumphs that come with learning to see your own value after being told you’re worthless. The supernatural element is a fun touch. It’s already been renewed for a second season and I’m definitely here for the rest.

Idk if this has been asked, but which Will Wood song do you think represents David Tennant?
ooooo ok i have never been asked this.
i can’t really assign one to david himself i don’t think but i will absolutely give a will wood song to every DT character i can think of
my autism is bursting at the seams at this question hehe when worlds collide
assigning every david tennant character (that i can think of) a will wood song. (with accompanying reasons varying in detail)
Campbell Bain - 2econd 2ight 2eer. in my head he’s a lot of others as well but primarily this one.
Tenth Doctor - Hand Me My Shovel. covers a lot of ground i think. i could’ve gone with a sadder one but i don’t think he’s openly miserable often enough for that.
Fourteenth Doctor - Cicada Days. (yes the doctors get separate ones leave me alone) this is my favourite song ever i didn’t think i was gonna include it here but actually i think it fits fourteen quite well.
Crowley - I/Me/Myself. the obvious choice is Laplace’s Angel but i reserved that one for Kilgrave. this one is kinder. this isn’t just because he’s all genderfluid it’s also because i think a lot of it could fit with his relationship to being a demon. there’s a lot of other options i think but i like this one best.
Kilgrave - Laplace’s Angel. come on. what else would he be. (although, Your Body My Temple is a tempting 2nd choice.)
Alec Hardy - Skeleton Appreciation Day (Bones). tougher decision but i think this one fits best.
Casanova - Chemical Overreaction. born to give him a whore song, forced to consider his other traits 😔. no but in all seriousness this one is giving Giacomo because of his eccentricity but also the actual story.
Phileas Fogg - Everything Is a Lot. tough choice again but mainly because i actually couldn’t think of any that fit right. the lingering on “all the moments you lost” works very well i think though.
Simon Yates - Cover This Song. easier than expected. i think Simon and Emily’s relationship and its past work pretty well with this.
sorry you probably only wanted one answer and i’ve given 9 but i had fun with this so tyvm :)

Okay, lovely Ace, so I have a question. Are there any whump scenes that you would love to have seen be extended? You know when there's whump that is really good and manages to still give you whumperflies despite only being a short scene or brief moment . I sometimes find myself getting whumperflies from a single groan or moment right before the scene cuts off and the rest of the whump is skimmed over! And then I just think of all the possibilities! Goodness the frustrations of a whumper xox
Oh god yes! It happens to me all the time. 9 times out of 10 I wish a whump scene was extended. Let me think of some examples.
So you know in 9-1-1 2x18 when Buck gets crushed by a ladder truck? Yeah I need so much more of that. I'm gald we got the initial rescue but I want the hospital scenes. I want the first time he goes home. I want the recovery!
They skipped so much in the episode of Murdoch Mysteries "Convalescence" when Murdoch falls from a great height and gets hurt. He falls and then bam the show skips to him in bed. I want to see the stuff in the middle!!
Oh my god there's so much missing in Infinity war/Endgame with Tony Stark. He got stabbed and there was all that time he was slowly starving and isolated and damn I want more of that.
GRACELAND!! Oh my god when Mike is going through withdrawal! I want more of that. But like specifically the rest of the withdrawal after they had to put him in the ice bath. They just skipped ahead to him being fine.
Can I have 1000 more scenes of Alec Hardy's heart condition? Every single one of those scenes can we extend them please?
Eliot Spencer's gunshot wounds in Leverage "The Rundown Job" needs to be shown more. They skipped from him getting shot on the train to being treated on the ambulance. I'd like the in between please.
Oh hell when Phileas Fogg got whipped in Around the World in 80 Days and THERE WAS NOTHING BETWEEN HIM BEING FLOGGED AND THEM BOARDING THE SHIP! NOTHING! WHERE WAS THE TREATEMENT!?
And every single semi whumpy scene in any Hallmark movie. They could all do more.
Honestly I could go on forever. I wish every scene was extended longer. I always need more lol.

For Drabble
Will charity x phileas fogg
First date ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Part of the Let The Adventure Begin au. :)
This is on the ship from New York to London in episode eight.
On with the fic!
--
"I am sure that everything will go just fine, monsieur." Passepartout spoke as he fixed Phileas' tie, then smoothed the lapel of his jacket. "It's just a date."
"Easy for you to say, Passepartout." Phileas frowned, shifting on his feet, "I have not 'dated' or even 'courted' anyone in years! Decades, really."
"I am sure that Charity doesn't care about that. Besides, he asked you to join him for dinner."
"Alone." Phileas said, his voice small, his cheeks warm.
It shouldn't be this panic inducing, they had agreed to courting, to taking things slow for Phileas' sake. But they were still a few days away from London and William had asked for Phileas to join him in the dining hall of the ship for a meal, without their other friends.
Phileas had said yes, but hours later, after being left alone with his thoughts... well...
He overthought how things could go wrong and was now worried sick that it would be a disaster!
Passepartout clucked his tongue and stepped back, arms crossed. "Monsieur, I am telling you this now, you. Will. Be. Fine. Now, go out there and meet him, he's probably waiting."
Phileas sighed, nodding, and made his way out of his private cabin on the ship. Why was he so scared? He wanted this to work, he wanted to be happy with Will. They had kissed, a few times now, heck, they had even danced together in the privacy of his cabin that first night on this ship.
He had even protected Will when they were in Nevada against a dangerous man with a gun!
Why was he so nervous about having a meal with Captain William Charity? It's not like they haven't eaten together before.
His cheeks burned as he remembered the wedding feast in India, where Will had showed him the different dishes and which ones would be less... spicy, considering his reaction to the first one he tried.
He found himself in the dining room, having unconsciously made his way there while lost in his thoughts, and found that William was already there. The curly haired man was smiling in his direction, waving him over to the table he had chosen. Phileas swallowed and made his way over.
"G-Good evening, William." He greeted before taking his seat.
"And good evening to you as well, angel." Will smiled, using that nickname he couldn't seem to let go. Phileas really didn't understand why he used it, but he never stopped Will from using it. He kind of liked it, honestly.
"You look rather dashing tonight." Phileas spoke, trying to keep the conversation going. This was the proper thing to do, right? Oh God, he was so out of practice.
Will chuckled and gave his jacket a small tug. "Thank you, picked out my best outfit for our dinner tonight. And, might I say, you look so very handsome yourself."
Phileas made a startled noise at how smoothly Will spoke like that, and could only nod when the man had offered to fill his wine glass from the bottle that was on the table.
"You know," Will started as he set the bottle side, "it's okay to be nervous, Phileas. I'm not going to judge or be upset with you if things aren't perfect. I don't expect them to be. It's a simple dinner, a chance for us to talk, to get to know each other better. You can relax."
"I... I'm sorry." Phileas sighed, sipping at the wine before continuing. "It's been so long, I feel so out of touch with this sort of thing."
"How were things between you and Estella when you dated?"
"They were..." He thought back on those old days, when he was younger. He smiled gently at the memories he still held so dear to his heart. "They were filled with talking, with planning and plotting of world traveling. Of places to see, things to do. Of happy chats about nothing in particular. She understood I was not as outgoing as her, but she let me follow her at my own pace. I can be a bit boring, but she was fine with that. I hope... that you are fine with that as well."
"You're not boring." Will reached out, fingers brushing against Phileas' own. "You're marvelous, smart, fascinating, and so very much someone I'd love to talk about nothing with."
Phileas stared at him, at the honesty in those hazel eyes, and he smiled, just a little. "Then let's do that. Will you let me go at my own pace?"
"Of course, angel." Will smiled and Phileas felt himself relaxed more.

This idea has been bugging me for a while, so I decided to turn it into a thing and now you all have to suffer with me. (tagging @thinking-with-quadrants)
Welcome to the shitpost titled:
(drumroll please)
How is Phileas Fogg like a Disney Princess?
Item 1: Does he have magic hair?
Tumblr media
✔ Can we even argue the point?
Item 2: Magic hands?
Tumblr media
✔ You know it
Item 3: Do animals talk to him?
Tumblr media
✔ I mean... probably not saying anything nice, but... still counts right?
Item 4: Was he poisoned?
Tumblr media
✔ The proof is in the pudding... er... datura seeds
Item 5: Cursed?
Tumblr media
✔ Okay, not really, but... just humor me
Item 6: Kidnapped or enslaved?
Tumblr media
✔ Kinda?
Item 7: okay, we're skipping the making a deal with an underwater sea witch bit for obvious reasons, although I must say, I wouldn't mind seeing Fogg with a merman tail 😏
Item 8: Ever had a true love's kiss?
Tumblr media
✔ Oh, we're definitely gonna give him that one
Item 9: Have daddy issues?
Tumblr media
✔ And then some....
Item 10: Do people assume all of his problems got solved because a big strong man showed up?
Tumblr media
✔ *insert a shit-eating grin here*
Welp, I'm gonna go hide now

10 First Lines Tag
Thanks for tagging me, @seamayweed! :D
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern.
I'll do this for the first lines of the last ten scenes in Houses Full of Deceit:
It wasn't a crime to walk through a town in broad daylight with a strange man, in spite of what Mrs. McFarland might say.
Yo-han had two motives in sending Miss Patton away with Mr. Colman.
"The most important facts we need are: why were the Hastings targeted, and why did An Ji-hun specifically target them?"
From arriving at Phil's house to leaving it took only four hours — and most of that time was taken up by the happy couple going on a romantic walk at the least convenient time.
When Colman said his friend would meet them at his club, Yo-han had a dim impression — probably strengthened by the travelling they'd done over the last three months — that it was something like Phileas Fogg's.
Louis Gresham, when they finally tracked him down, turned out to be a sandy-haired young man absorbed in a crossword puzzle.
In its long and hardly illustrious history Liverpool, like every city, had seen so many strange people — most of them its own inhabitants — that it took no notice of one more.
Anyone who asked at the Castle Hotel would be told that yes, Seo Yo-han was staying there.
The Avington family had prided themselves on living in the most fashionable district in London.
Yo-han was half a street away from Avington's house when he realised he was being followed.
Open tag! :D

The Other Log of Phileas Fogg was only the beginning!
It is 1889 and Phileas Fogg has settled into a life of quiet sequestration in the rural idyll of his family estate with his wife and children. The millennia-old conflict which once threatened to consume him is over and done.
Or so he thought.
But when an old foe disrupts his peaceful retirement, seeking his aid against an enemy which threatens them both, Fogg finds himself once more thrown into the white-hot crucible of war.
Now, with his loved ones under threat of death, and accompanied by the unpredictable colonel who has been described as the second most dangerous man in London, Fogg must dare the dangers of the City of Light in order to uncover the deadly secrets hidden beneath the streets of Paris. And as the wonders of the Exposition Universelle unfold around him and the air quivers with the impossible reverberation of nine great clangings, Fogg must plunge into the shadowed depths of the Parisian catacombs on the trail of his phantom enemy…
Cover art by Amar Djouad for Phileas Fogg and the War of Shadows, my official sequel to Philip Jose Farmer's The Other Log of Phileas Fogg. Still available in ebook form!
