my atla au fanfic pet peeve is people making katara angry or reluctant at zuko joining the group. katara was the FIRST one to trust and forgive zuko. he spent >5min telling her he had a tragic backstory and she was ready to use up her one and only vial of superultramagical healing on a cosmetic problem because it would make him happy.

katara is thee Most forgiving, trusting, and generous of the lot. thats Why she could be betrayed at all. Because she trusted so easily! the fact she holds a grudge at a betrayal that got her best friend killed severely injured does not mean she is anything less than the most trusting and willing to take a chance on others of the group!

if in an alternate universe zuko wound up joining the group earlier or the betrayal never happened she would be the first to accept him, she would welcome him with open arms and fight on his behalf with the groups true skeptic ie sokka

unfortunately i'm like 160 episodes into tma and still don't get the obsession with martin. like i don't hate him but also- literally every other character and relationship is more interesting. also fanon version of him sucks lol. canon version of him is actually appealing to me in some ways, but considering fanon martin makes 90% of tma fic unreadable, i'm not too stoked about even having him tagged half the time.

but whenever i talk about my writing i either get ignored or told to "write for yourself"

I'm still thinking about the pirate show sometimes and my worst, hottest take is that I think that the contents of the letter that Ed found (and could read 🤔) were mid and generic. For a pairing with so much specific content to choose from, "we wrote our names on eachother in permanent ink" is...boring. Nonsensical. Not for them. Ed has "trust no one" on him in permanent ink. He signed the act of grace with an X. Stede has nothing on him in permanent ink that we know of. Figures of speech and language and all, but it felt like trying to pour "you wear fine things well" accidental rizz into a half baked romantic overture. If the writers were going to go that route, why not build in something more specific? A reference to the dock or "you make Stede happy"? Even a "you came back/never left" reference? So many options, so many missed opportunities.

i needed a break from writing my short story and thought. yeah let’s pick the smoking fic all about chuuya and their situationships back up. why not. so here have a snippet of chuuya reminiscing about shirase except their both women and total lesbians. hella first draft so excuse any errors or choppiness

Chuuya pinches the cigarette between her lips, brings the lighter closer, and cups her hand around the flame. The tip burns red, and she takes a long, languid drag.

It’s a cheap cigarette—too cheap for a Port Mafia paycheck, certainly—and it shows in every aspect. It’s short and tastes awful, and the packaging is ugly and half-assed. Still, it’s the same as the buds she and Shirase used to find on the ground. Like idiots with no regard for their personal safety, they’d relight them and smoke someone else’s leftovers.

Shirase always talked about buying the two of them a fresh pack, sitting on the curb, and smoking all night together. She called it their shared dream and promised Chuuya that she’d make it happen, no matter what.

A naive, useless pursuit for two reasons: the standard pack of twenty cigarettes would never last two teenagers all night long, and Chuuya doesn’t dream.

Shirase’s promise fizzled out in the end, its flame snuffed the moment she buried a knife in Chuuya’s stomach. Now the punk’s in some body shop in London, and the mafioso’s on her hundredth pack.

It must be her curse, how despite everything between them—the bloodshed, the time, the thousands of kilometers—Chuuya can't stop thinking about her feral smile, her hands covered in motor oil, her dog tag resting against bony clavicles. Can’t stop hearing her fiendish laugh, her gruff voice. Can’t stop feeling her rough hands on her own dry skin.

Can’t stop smoking her favorite cigs.
