Oh I have been looking FORWARD to this!!!
Excellent in media res opening, you get us into Fu's insecurities & head-space so smoothly and his ensuing logic, along with setting up Trixx's gambit which I am super curious about to say the least!
As before, more excellent in media res, flashbacks are hard to use but you set it up so smoothly without disrupting the frantic nature of the fight or how off balance Marinette is without a partner this early in her career. It makes sense Marinette's just been low key happy but also not noticing Chloe's absence from her life and is only keying in now, the little details are nice touches as Marinette is a very detail oriented person but one with a heavy reliance on her gut.  Chloe's continuing meltdown outside of the façade Purrge allows her to keep up came off really well, the "I know, I suck!" aspect was especially telling, I like Bustier making an effort though clearly being out of her depth given the circumstances. Also gosh, Chloe hissing XD
Adrien: So the Cat Miraculous does make us behave more like cats! Plagg: No, no I do not, don't pin this on me kid. Chloe: (Climbing to the highest place to hiss at people more)
Also nice to see the rest of the class showing some agency and activity on their own without prompting from the MCs, and that whole bit with Marinette nominating Alya only to realize Alya wasn't gonna nominate her was great, I loved their dialogue exchange they are so witty and fun and oooh the confused ball of Adrien feelings, I love it!
Solid break out from the flashback too, and a very smooth introduction with Fu, I love her not realizing his age due to the Miraculous mask effect and his dialogue. I dunno, I just really like how you write his manner of speech. Also more Adrien feels! Fu's method of just leaving Miraculous with people who's vibes are right may come back to bite him XD
"That which was not known could not be pursued, much less caught."
As before I love the distinct manner in which he comes off with, everyone has their own voices, but Fu's is perhaps the most distinct which makes sense given his age and life experience. Sewer Hat Boy, another victim of the Miraculous mask effect and I love the manner in which Chloe is described, very much feels like a feline in human form. The fight itself was awesome, Fu's general nervousness really did not serve him well (Overall) in this fight, constantly over-thinking and fretting and then losing himself in a flashback while Chloe's turned off everything but fight mode. The swapping of the Cataclysm was an inspired idea and gods:
âFive minutes left to show you just how big of a mistake youâve made.â
Is such a badass line and mental image!!!
Great intro with Adrien's scene, smoothly setting up Nino's upcoming presence and I love the Marinette ramble slipping out as Ladybug! Also gosh his minimal self worth and wow, thinking he can get the Black Cat back even without a Miraculous of his own, optimism bordering on delusion there I'm afraid.
Very swift intro with the Snake and Aspik, it makes sense to skip it even if I was curious, also love Marinette oscillating between her LB person and Marinette vibes. Also oh dear, he went with the bald cap again and aaaah you fools why did you separate, that didn't work out last time now did it!?
Holy fuck that was brutal, easily her most heartbreaking Adrien chapter, this whole experience is borderline cosmic horror in terms of vibes as a thousand truths overlay and his perceptions crumble, heavy stuff! "Would that have been what made her give it back?" That is still your focus my boi?!
Nino is such a ride or die guy, I love him, great sensation work for Adrien and oooh setting up a future conversation that I really wanna see!
& Trixx is here, to make us all cheer, because oh so many questions now rear! I lost the rhyming scheme but suffice to say excellent lead out location, loved all of this!Â
Crossing Blades: An ML Fanfic Chapter 1 of 3
Next installment in my Chloe goes back in time AU! Link to AO3, then full text of the chapter below the cut.
Crossing Blades
The warning continued to blare on the ancient radio. It almost overrode the sounds of panic coming through the thin windows and walls of the backroom apartment. Wang Fu paced like a caged animal, twisting the bracelet on his wrist over and over. Beside him Wayzz hung in the air, concerned but silent.
Master Fu stopped in place, eyes narrowed at some unseen ghosts of the past, or future. âI must act. Wayzz, shell on!â
In a flash of green, casual clothing was replaced with armor and mask. Jade Turtle stepped up to the gramophone with determination in his manner. Tap, taptap, tap. Out came the miracle box.
Ignoring the two that remained on the top layer, he reached into a side drawer and took out the snake miraculous. He paused only once, turning away with the green band in hand. Is this the correct path? A life of running had not prepared him for a fight.
Without looking back, Jade Turtle closed the miracle box. The snap of the lid renewed his flagging conviction. This was right. He could bring things back under control and set them in balance once more.
If only he had looked back, he might have seen the fox tail necklace judder and bounce. He might have seen it hop from the box and hook itself to the back of his belt. He might have seen the little fox kwami blinking into existence, the culprit behind the jewelryâs odd behavior, then blink out again.
But, he did not.
-----------------
Ladybug ducked between two buildings. She had no idea if the narrow alleyway was a dead end, she just needed breathing room. Squads of black armored knights marched up and down the streets, attacking anyone caught outside at will. Dark clouds painted the sky, casting everything into deep shadows.
She believed the source to be at city hall, a new akuma -of course- but she needed more to go on. She also needed a partner. She was *this* close to wishing for the Miraculous thief to show up, just to have someone watch her back against the legion of minions this akuma commanded.
To think, this morning had seemed like such a big deal only a few hours ago.
âGood morning everyone. Before we start for today, itâs time to elect your class representative.â Ms. Bustier had spoken in a chipper but uncertain tone. She gestured to ChloĂ© in the front seat, âChloĂ©, I havenât heard from Sabrina yet, but can we count on the two of you again this year?â
âWhat?â a muddled reply came, âNo, ugh. I donât want to be stupid representative anymore. Someone else do it.â
That had brought Marinette out of her own thoughts. ChloĂ© had been weird lately, but Marinette had had her own problems to deal with. However, passing up prestige, not being the bigwig in the room? That was something else entirely. Marinette looked down at the back of ChloĂ©âs head. Was the ponytail frizzed today? There was body language there that felt off, the set of her shoulders wasnât right. Marinette had gotten good at reading ChloĂ©âs moods in self defense.
Ms. Bustierâs lips made a surprised âohâ and she looked up,âWell does anyone else want to run for the position?â
The kind of absolute silence that can only come from asking for a volunteer echoed back at her.
Ms. Bustier clasped her hands and tried again, âChloĂ©, why not be representative again this year? You know the most about it. Youâre right here at the front of the room too. If things are a bit hectic, Iâm sure we can work something outâŠâ
âI said No!â ChloĂ© slammed her palms down on the desk and stood up so fast Sabrina fell off the bench as it moved. âIf being at the front means I have to do it, FINE!â
She grabbed her bag and stalked back to the rear of the room. All eyes followed her but no one dared say a word. Rose scooted closer to Juleka. Ivanâs brows lowered as she passed. Nathanielâs eyes began to widen as she approached his desk.
*Thump* She shoved her bag onto it. Nathanielâs eyes darted, he seemed paralyzed. ChloĂ©âs face flushed for a moment then she grabbed his sketchbook from the desk.âYou sit in the front now!â
The hurled sketchbook opened in mid-flight like a wounded bird, flapping and spinning until it landed on the front desk then skittered off the other side to the floor. Ms. Bustierâs eyes tracked its entire flight. There was one more beat of silence then she looked up.
âMs. Bourgeois, that is no way to-â
âI know I know. I suck, whatever. Shut up. Iâm in the back now, I canât be the rep. Someone else do it.â ChloĂ© dropped herself onto the bench beside Nathaniel, who fell off the other side, scrambling to escape.
He scuttled down to the front. Ms. Bustier met him and handed him his sketchbook with a gentle, âPlease put this away during the lesson, Nathaniel.â before looking up to the back. âMs. Bourgeois, see me after class.â
An honest to God hiss was her answer to that.
Ms. Bustier quickly replaced the serene mask she normally wore, âSo, it appears the field is indeed wide open. Would no one else like to take the reins and lead our class to the future?â
Alyaâs elbow dug lightly into Marinetteâs side. âYou should do it,â her friend whispered.
Marinette bit her lip. It would be work, more work on top of Ladybug. She didnât want to let anyone down either. She was always late, even before the miraculous. Surely someone else could do it, right?
âI donât have time. Why donât you try it?â Marinette whispered back.
âLa-dy Blog,â Alya sing-songed. âCome on, maybe you could get Adrien to be your assistant.â
That sparked a whole ball of feelings. Imagined black cat ears popped into being atop Adrienâs head in Marinetteâs mind. Adrien, Cat Noir, a chance to be partners again?
âMylene!â Alix broke the silence that had settled again.
The redhead gave the girl beside her a friendly shove.
âYouâre always into political stuff. Why donât you do it?â
Mylene smiled for a second before shrinking in her seat. âI umm, donât know. Iâve never actually been in charge of anything before.â
Alix leaned grinned down at Ms. Bustier, âI nominate Mylene! We can do that, right?â
The relief was clear on the teacherâs face, âYes! Yes of course, nominations are allowed, though they need to be accepted.â
âCool. Then that. I nominate. Come on, Mylene. Show us what you got.â
After a look towards Ivan, and another downcast fidget in her seat, Mylene finally nodded.
Marinette sagged with relief. That was taken care-
Alyaâs voice, âWell, I nomi-â
A storm of images hit Marinette. Pressure, uncertainty, working with Adrien, not working with Adrien. Mylene working with Adrien, of all the oddball things.
She shot to her feet, âI nominate Alya!â
There was a general classwide blink.
Ms. Bustier nodded, âAlya, would you accept?â
Alya missed a beat, but recovered. âYeah, sure. That way we get an election, right?â She leaned around Marinette, âWeâll highlight important issues with our speeches, right Mylene?â
Mylene brightened, âYes, of course!â
There was a general murmur of excitement. Marinette took her seat again, giving Alya a smug look before whispering, âBeat you to it.â
Alya raised an eyebrow. âGirl, I was gonna nominate Adrien. You already said you didnât want to. I figured it could work the other way too.â
Marinetteâs triumphant smile melted into sadness. She slumped face first onto the desk. Alya patted her gently on the back.
âI dunno what about Mr. Modelpants does it for you, but I was trying to help.â
Marinette mumbled against the wood, âYou got my vote.â She pushed herself upright and looked down to the row in front of them. âHe just seems⊠nice. I think he deserves a chance.â
Alyaâs snort was anything but subtle, âA chance with you, that is quite a reward.â
Marinette went instantly red. âI didnât- I mean-â
Alya laid a hand on her shoulder, âRelax, girl. I got you.â
âYou can speak at my funeral when I die of embarrassment,â Marinette groused.
âI will move the crowds to tears.â Alya nodded solemnly.
Much needed giggles slipped from Marinetteâs lips. A sharply cleared throat cut her reply short though.
âMiss Cesaire, you will be ready to deliver your speech in the morning?â Ms. Bustier asked pointedly.
Alya saluted. âYes Maâam.â
At the time it had all seemed so important.
Breather over, Ladybug considered her options. She wasnât even sure where the akuma was. City Hall seemed a good bet. The roving packs of armored warriors were a risk. One on one, she trusted her miraculous enhanced reflexes, but five on one? Ten? She wished for Cat Noir. In a moment of weakness she even felt she would settle for the thief. She needed someone to watch her back. She needed a partner.
A flash of motion -above!- Ladybug lashed out and dodged.
Spang!
Her yo-yo rebounded off the wide-brimmed metal hat of a green glad warrior. âHold, Ladybug! I am ally, not foe!â
Ladybug kept her yo-yo at the ready. âAlly? Who are you?â
He raised his head, revealing the green mask and a smile. âI am the Guardian of the Miraculous. You may call me Jade Turtle.â
She sized him up quickly. Her height, her age? It was impossible to tell much from behind a mask. He held himself with poise, but also hunched like his namesake, as if awaiting a blow. âGuardian? What is that? Do you know whatâs going on?â
He bowed his head a fraction, âI do, and I will share what I can with you once the crisis has passed. I have brought you the means to garner an ally in this battle.â
He unhooked a small box from his belt and opened it. Inside lay an unassuming bracelet of Jade.
âThis is the Miraculous of the snake, which holds the power of intuition. It will allow the wearer to loop time, up to five minutes, to find the correct path to victory. Give it to one you trust.â
Adrien. The name popped instantly into Ladybugâs mind. She could have her partner back. She reached for the box but paused. âWill you be fighting with us too?â
Jade Turtle shook his head, âI am here to reclaim what is lost. I expect the black cat will make an appearance, and I will be ready. It is vital the miraculous not fall into the wrong hands.â
Ladybug took the box. Something nagged the back of her mind, but it didnât translate properly and only, âAre you sure?â left her lips.
Jade Turtle nodded and ran his fingers along the brim of his metal hat. âYes, almost as sure as I was in choosing you to be Ladybug.â
With that he turned and vaulted up out of the alley to the rooftops.
The box was heavy in Ladybugâs hand as her eyes lingered after the only person with any answers to her questions. Adrien. I can get this to Adrien. No rooftops for me though. I canât risk being seen and followed.
Ladybug checked the end of the alleyway and then scurried back towards school, and she hoped, an ally.
--------------------------------------
Jade Turtle moved quickly as possible, keeping to the shadows. Avoiding being seen was still an ingrained habit. That which was not known could not be pursued, much less caught. The city swarmed with units of armored knights marching in formations. They were a concern, but also, he suspected, the perfect bait. His instincts proved correct. Commotion, running soldiers, and sounds of battle drew him to his quarry.Â
The new holder of the black cat stood in a swath of carnage. Fallen knights littered the ground like leaves, but there was a lull. Only one knight still stood, sword held robotically en garde against her.
Jade Turtle's eyes scanned the scene quickly. He broke cover, âNo! Wait!â
Too late. The black cat moved, slipping the knight's stiff guard and lashing out. Claws tore metal and everything beneath with equal ease. The knight crumpled into the pile.
âYou! You! They are being controlled by the akuma! They are innocent people!â
She seemed to register only slowly. Feline disinterest painted across her sharp features. âWho are you supposed to be? Sewer Hat Boy?â
He raised his own guard as he approached. He knew better than to trust the languid curiosity in those mismatched eyes. âMy name is unimportant. My purpose is to reclaim the black cat from you. You are not the one destined to hold it.â He directed a pointed glance down to the fallen bodies. âAnd you paint yourself unworthy by deed as well.â
She tilted her head slowly, then kicked the body at her feet. âTheyâll be fine once stupid Ladybug does her thing. As for my miraculous, oh just you try to take it.â
Jade Turtle steeled himself and dropped into a fighting stance. âAs you wish. These bones may be old, but they know many secrets.â
With the moment at hand Jade Turtle hesitated, how best to attack? He must strip the ring from her hand. Protection would be the key. He cou-
There was no warning in her eyes, no tension in her stance, none of the things he had learned to look for. She dropped into a hunched run, legs powering her into a lurching drunken charge that devoured the space between them.
Jade turtle jerked backwards. A clawed swipe slashed through the air where his throat had been. Another lunged for his eyes.
Block. Block. Redirect. Turn. Clear roo- no she was on him again. Catch. Twist. Her whole body moved as bonelessly as her namesake, spinning her whole body in the air around the pivot of his wristlock. Her claw toed boot scored lines in his metal hat.
Jade Turtle tried to disengage. He just needed space, time. She dogged his every move. He was being chased again, chased across the street just as he had been chased his whole life. Flashbacks warred with reality. His foe lunged and it wasnât a child, it was a grown man in a black leather uniform with a very different meaning. Jade Turtle had been helpless then, he wasnât now.
He lashed out and struck the man a deeply deserved killing blow to the sternum. Contact evaporated the memory. The child collapsed the ground in its place, but rebounded impossibly.
âSo thatâs how it isâŠâ She gritted through clenched fangs. âCataclysm!â
Heâd lost control! Dodge. Dodge. Stagger. Dodge. Dodge. Backpedal. Something in that heterochromic gaze dredged up every fear from his two centuries of running. He couldnât- he needed- She wouldnât give him room.
âProtection!â
Instinct took over when reason fled. He met her next swipe and caught her just inside the wrist. The turtle Miraculous did the rest. A bubble of Green around that black death-clad hand.
He panted, keeping her wrist held firmly. âNow⊠Iâve got you. Surrender. You can not-â
The Cataclysm vanished.
Motion.
Jade Turtle flinched and it saved his life.
Her free hand came around, sparking with destruction. It met the dipping edge of his shield hat and blasted it apart in an instant. The feedback robbed him of his senses and strength. Jade turtle fell. He sensed more than saw the shadow looming over him.
âFive minutes left to show you just how big of a mistake youâve made.â
----------------------------------------------------------
The difference five minutes could make; a million times over.
âAdrien!â
Adrien skidded to a stop at the sound of that voice. He cast a quick glance back over his shoulder, it looked like he had finally lost them. He turns his gaze skyward just as Ladybug landed beside him.
She unclipped a small box from her hip as she straightened up, holding it out. âAm I glad to see you! I looked at your house first and you werenât there, so then I checked the school. You weren't there either, so I tried all the streets in between and-â
She paused, withdrawing the box slightly.
âWhat are you doing out here?â
Adrien looked down, rubbing the back of his head. âWell, I thought, I mean I hoped, maybe I might still be useful. If I could, maybe at least find the akuma and report back.â
Or find ChloĂ© and get the cat back. Or anything just to not be a disappointment. Well, not a disappointment to her. He was pretty sure Alya and Nino wouldnât be happy with him for running off. He had glimpsed Nino running after him, even.
Ladybug made a soft sound in her throat, âAdrien, youâre amazing,â his heart swelled, âI donât want you to be running around without a miraculous though. Itâs dangerous out here. Itâs a miracle you havenât been caught and turned into one of these knight-zombie things. Thatâs why-â
Adrien looked up, sure the axe would fall now. He couldnât account for the color on Ladybugâs cheeks, or the softness when she held the box out again.
âThatâs why Iâve got something for you. Itâs the snake Miraculous. With it you can help me again. We can defeat this akuma, get back your miraculous, and stop Hawkmoth!â
Sheâd laid out the snakeâs powers. Sass had been more reserved than Plagg, but polite. When Adrien had transformed into Aspik heâd thought heâd caught Ladybug giggling behind her hand, but she flashed him a big smile nonetheless. She even rubbed his new costumeâs smooth head âfor Luckâ. The plan was simple, split up and circle City Hall north and south. See what could be seen and meet up on the other side.
That had been less than ten minutes ago.
It had been months ago.
Aspik had spotted ChloĂ© midway through his sweep. She ran on rooftops, wielding the power of the black cat, his power. The power heâd lost. He had the perfect chance to get it back, as many chances as needed. Aspik had activated Second Chance and altered his course. He couldnât fail.
Reset. Come from the right. Reset. Try the left. Reset. Try reasoning. Reset. Threatening. Reset. Bargaining. Reset. Fight. Reset. Angry. Reset. Screaming. Reset. Go for the ring. Reset. Go for a knockout. Reset. Try to call Ladybug. Reset. Ladybug arrives on her own and catches a cataclysm. Reset. Reveal who he is. Reset. Again. Reset. Again. Reset. Reset. Reset. Heâs hanging over the edge of a roof, danglinging from her grip on his wrist. The last light is blinking on the bracelet. He canât reach- She smirks and twists the bracelet for him. Reset. Reset. Reset. Something is happening. Reset. The world feels thin. Reset. Spots at the edges of his vision. Reset. No, spots in the sky. Reset. Destruction. Reset. Cataclysm lingering. Reset. Wearing away these five minutes like a thread pulled back and forth through the eye of a needle too many times. Reset. He canât fail! Reset. He has to prove- Reset. To Ladybug. Reset. He is-
FallingâŠ
He canât remember what he said this time. He canât remember who threw the first punch. A thousand thousand truths overlap and spill out, covering his senses. Thereâs only one consistency. He lost, again.
Aspik hits the pavement hard. A storm of black lightning tears at the sky for three, two, one. The snake Miraculous chirps one last warning and powers down. The storm vanishes. Time, no longer abused, marches on. It leaves him behind again. ChloĂ© didnât even spare him the benefit of a backward glance this time. Would it have even mattered if she did? Would seeing him defeated by her hand again have been the right or wrong thing to do? Would it have made her pause? Would that have been what made her give it back?
He feels numb. The street is a too-hard bed but he feels like he could sleep for a decade if he just closed his eyes. The overcast clouds no longer threaten the end, but are still a reminder of the akuma at large.
âAdrien!â Ninoâs voice is so out of place it takes a moment for Adrien to recognize it.
Adrien turns his head, still not ready to move beyond that, to watch his friend rushing headlong down the empty street. Nino? Why are you here? Itâs dangerous. Too dangerous.
âDude! Are you okay? Can you stand?â Nino drops to one knee and tries to haul Adrien to his feet.
The answers quickly present themselves. No, and No. Adrien is beyond exhausted. His legs wonât hold him. He stumbles into Nino. His throat feels like sandpaper. âWhat are you doing here?â
âLooking for you, dude.â Nino loops Adrienâs arm over his shoulders and tries to take on more of the weight. Adrienâs legs still arenât cooperating.
Ha. Hero saved by a civilian. But then, whatâs the difference? Adrien found the strength to push Nino off gently, but not the strength to keep standing once he had. He sat down hard, but pulled the Snake Miraculous off his wrist. A weary Sass sprang into being, hovering low in the air.
Nino blinked, âDude?â
Adrien waved him off with a floppy hand. âNo time. Ladybug needs help. Defeat the Akuma. Tell Sass âScales Slither.â Bracelet resets things. Five minutes tops. Help Ladybug.â
Ninoâs eyes darted between Sass and the bracelet Adrien was holding out in a trembling hand. Shock and fear each had a turn, but determination was right on their heels. He took the bracelet from Adrienâs hand, âIâll try.â
Adrien remembered, âGet the cat back for Ladybug, if you can.â
Sass managed to perk some, and the transformation worked. Snake-clad Nino turned in the direction Adrien pointed, but before leaping away called back over his shoulder, âYou have so much explaining to do, dude.â
And with that, he was gone.
Adrien fell back onto his back, ready to let the darkness of sleep take him, hopefully before more knights showed up. Instead a new, high pitched, scratchy voice reached his ears.
âHey. Hey you. Iâve got a proposition for you. We can both help each other out.â

An Analysis of Harukaâs MVs: Distance and Disability
Hello! Iâve recently fallen down the rabbit hole that is Milgram and I have been itching to make some completely normal and sane analysis posts. My silly alternate title for this was gonna be âThings About Harukaâs MVs That Just Make Sense: A Hyperfixation-fuelled Analysisâ, because honestly my autistic brain has been having a field day over here.
I am in awe with just about every single music video in this project; the animation is incredible and each one packs so much carefully laid out information. But I have been rotating Harukaâs in my head constantly since I first watched them, and I have a lot of Thoughts. Not about whether heâs guilty or innocent/forgiven or unforgiven. Not about whether or not I can justify his murders. Just some straight up imagery and symbolism analysis, through the lens of disability.
Harukaâs disability has not been specified, but I am confident we can at least say he is neurodivergent. I feel like the cultural differences in names for several things e.g. âlearning disabilityâ vs âlearning difficultyâ will just invite unnecessary drama, and is a little pedantic. What does matter here is that Haruka's experience as a disabled person is heavily intertwined within his story and his motives.Â
So, without further ado... letâs get into this!
Trigger warnings/TW: I will be discussing ableism, eugenics and harm towards disabled people. Everything else will be related to the music videos âWeaknessâ and âAll Knowing and All Agonyâ, so any triggering content within them may also be mentioned. Read at your own discretion and stay safe!
Disability: some brief (important) historical context
It is only within the last few decades that those who are disabled have been âseenâ for the first time. A modern society is (ideally) expected to be built to include and accommodate for disability, and to acknowledge disabled peopleâs existence. But for many countries (even the ones making steps outlined above) this is still not the case. For a very, very long time, globally, that has not been the case.
For most disabled people, society makes it very clear that they are a burden to it and are better off not existing.Â
Iâm going to make this section as succinct as possible because...itâs heavy stuff. But itâs important, and I want you all to get the gist of what Iâm saying. The weight of it.
Letâs highlight a piece of history regarding IQ and eugenics, surrounding the publication and subsequent worldwide reception of âThe Kallikak Family: A Study in the Heredity of Feeble-mindednessâ by Henry Herbert Goddard in 1913:
âIn 1927, it was used as evidence in the case of Buck v. Bell, which culminated in a Supreme Court ruling that the involuntary sterilization of âmentally defectiveâ persons was not unconstitutional in the United States. By 1938, thirty-three US states had passed laws allowing for the forced sterilization of women with learning disabilities and twenty-nine had made sterilization compulsory for people who were thought to have genetic conditions. Many European countries followed suit: Denmark in 1929, then Norway in 1934, and after that Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Latvia, Hungary and Turkey.â
â Limburg, J. (2021) Letters To My Weird Sisters: On Autism and Feminism, p. 126
This history of a âsterilization lawâ includes Japan, who between 1948 and 1996 enacted the Eugenics Protection Law which âauthorised the sterilization of people with intellectual disabilities, mental illnesses or hereditary disorders.â According to the government, about 25,000 were sterilized.
SO. Itâs important to bring this up. To establish how much disabled people are not wanted, just from their governments. Let alone society. To this day, disabled people are hidden away from the public by families that are ashamed of their existence.
Japanese culture values collectivism, and maintaining the harmony of a group...to the extent of excluding those that donât fit into the mould. That are different.
The question is: where do they go? The ones that are publicly rejected?
Haruka and The Curious Case of Distant Waters
Okay thatâs enough of the heavy real-world stuff! Time to delve into some...*checks notes*...heavy fictional stuff. Fun!
Harukaâs MVs prominently display themes of distance and separation through the motif of water, specifically being submerged underwater.Â
The name Haruka reinforces this concept as the specific kanji used (é„) translates to âdistantâ, âremoteâ or âfar awayâ. As there are many, many kanji choices for the name (including but not limited to: ocean/sea, eternity/permeance, clear/distinct/obvious, and spring/growth/cherry blossom) it feels like a particularly cruel and intentional choice to go with that one.
Through the exploration of this motif, we can see the extent in which Otherness/the state of being âOtherâ drives Haruka to great lengths to close the distance and escape it.
What I noticed throughout both MVs (particularly AK&AA but note the beginning scene of Weakness), is that whenever Haruka looks at himself in a reflective surface (e.g. the vanity mirror, the fish tank), water either begins to rise and overwhelms him, or is already there and he appears submerged:
I think this is the âAll-Knowingâ part of AK&AA. He knows heâs different, and he knows thereâs a huge ocean between him and his peers, his family, everyone. A disconnect when trying to listen and understand, but also when trying to be understood by others and listened to himself.
You know when you submerge your head in water, and your hearing gets all muffled and incomprehensible? And have you ever tried speaking underwater? You canât, because if you open your mouth youâll drown. Itâll just come out as bubbles rising to the surface.
I also think the bubbles symbolise rising tension, between what he wants and what he currently has. Bubbles are everywhere in these MVs, even in places where they shouldnât logically be? Such as this scene, following the line âdonât wipe me out, donât wipe me outâ:
Immediately pans up to Haruka gasping for breath, droplets of water rising from...somewhere. For about a split second, and theyâre gone.Â
This boy is really going through it. Iâm getting an âemerging from the ocean before I drownâ vibe from this one folks. When the line that follows this scene is âI canât stop, I canât stopâ, what Iâm REALLY hearing is âI canât stop (killing) or Iâll drownâ. This is his lifeboat, pulling him out from the depths of being neglected and hidden away, into the spotlight.
Some interesting images from Weakness in relation to that (of spotlights):
Anyways, onto the next point:
Blue to Orange: Water to...Nectar?
So, the orange liquid. Itâs clearly representing blood, but I donât think this is just a âdanganronpa pink bloodâ situation of censoring/getting this video onto youtube without restrictions.
I think itâs most likely honey, specifically nectar.
The etymology of the word nectar shows its compounds translate to âdeathâ and âovercomingâ. Nectar is also called the drink of the gods, so it would make sense for it to be a âdeath-defeatingâ, immortalizing liquid.
For Harukaâs victims to contain nectar is very interesting. It reinforces that necessity to kill, to take the life of another, to sustain himself. To overcome the âliving deathâ he is experiencing by being hidden away from society.Â
This is his means of escape from drowning.
However, as we all know, things donât turn out great for him. By the end of AK&AA Haruka is rejected once again by his mother, after which the door is shut (the light with it is gone too) and weâre met with this imagery:
The nectar floods the room, engulfing him much like the water from earlier.Â
There are many things we could take from this. One being that the nectar-gathering/killing-spree has clouded his vision; itâs so sweet, so sickly sweet and heâs addicted to the taste of attention, even if itâs very bad attention.Â
Who else has honey imagery in their MV again?
Oh, right.Â
Anyway, the nectar/honey situation could also be representing submerging into an even further level of distance. All that murder is gonna push people away, despite his motive being to close the gap between him and normal people. The 'oceanâ has lost clarity and become a maddening, delusional substance. After all, there is a type of honey literally called âmad honeyâ known for its medicinal and hallucinogenic properties.
Thatâs enough about honey, though. Letâs move onto less unfortunate... oh, sorry, what was that? *checks notes*...Ah, yes. I meant to say, letâs move onto even more unfortunate symbolism:
The Necklace
So, this necklace. Haruka steals it from his motherâs belongings, and is his only material, physical connection to her. It is taken on the declaration of âmaking (her) love me againâ and getting her attention once more, now he is no longer a child but a teenager closer to adulthood (at least, thatâs what I consider the âshirt with a vest sweater and tieâ to represent. child him = the blue polo, teenager him = this one, adult him = an amalgamation of his teenager clothes).
I wasnât sure if this was an opal or pearl/mother of pearl, but Iâm leaning towards opal from the other depiction of it in Weakness:
Opals are fun because they can symbolise both good luck and bad luck, usually to do with whether itâs your birthstone. Thereâs something to be said of Harukaâs belief in his âmisfortuneâ and the superstition surrounding these gemstones.
But they are even more interesting for the powers they supposedly have; in medieval times the opal was considered the âpatron of thievesâ for their ability to grant the wearer invisibility.
There is a deliciously sad irony to Harukaâs theft with that titbit of information.
Now, if this isnât an opal, and itâs a pearl/mother of pearl thereâs still some fun interpretation to be had! A little less sad, even. Pearls invoke strong imagery of the sea, of purity, and of a connection to the maternal. If this is the last thing he has relating to his mother, I can see this necklace representing a lifeline when heâs deep in the ocean. A reminder of why heâs doing all of this killing, and who itâs for.
His motherâs attention (or the idea of having a mother at all, any mother) is his driving force in life.
Speaking of that...
So We Really Need To Talk About That Fish Tank: AKA, Why Harukaâs Mom Wins âThe Worst Parent of The Yearâ Award
This fucking fish tank.
Okay, Iâm gonna start by saying: I donât think this is reading too far into things. When it takes an animation team months, sometimes years to create a 3-5 minute music video, and one as detailed as this...you donât just wing it. There are storyboards, there are key frames and there are choices made down to the smallest of details.
From the sheer volume of animal/insect/fish dĂ©cor that resides in the Sakurai household, you bet Iâm gonna pay attention to what type of fish are in that fish tank.
For one thing, they live in saltwater. This is a marine tank, aka the harder choice of aquarium to have. I mean, way, WAY harder. For the experienced only.
These fish right here? One is a clownfish, and the other is a yellow boxfish.
Boxfish are a nightmare to keep alive. This article goes into more detail than I will, but all you need to know is: if there was ever a fish out of all the fish you could possibly want in your tank, this is the one to avoid like the plague.
They release deadly toxins when stressed, as a survival instinct. Boom. All your fish are dead. They need to eat a shit ton of food, but are notoriously clumsy swimmers and slow eaters. Boom. Starving, stressed out boxfish. Boxfish either dies from starvation or dies from stress and toxins.
For Harukaâs mom to have not just one of these fuckers, but a tank consisting ONLY OF MULTIPLE BOXFISH AND CLOWNFISH...
This is a high-maintenance tank. And it shows how much time and effort, how much care she puts into the things she loves.
How neglectful she is as a parent of a disabled child in contrast.
Thereâs something about the last scene between Haruka and his mother that reinforces this for me:
Harukaâs relationship with animals and himself: AKA, âwhy donât I just become the damn fish tank?â
Let me backpedal a little bit. This subheading will make sense in a minute.
So, like I said earlier we have a lot of décor in this house relating to insects and fish. We also have a lot of pets. Both living and dead, taxidermized creatures in one household, proudly on display.
I think this may have created some confusion for Haruka regarding the value of animals being alive or dead, as in his perspective his mother values both equally. The fish in a tank may be full of alive creatures, but theyâre still on display as if itâs artwork. Isnât breaking the glass of a framed picture of a fish equal to breaking the glass of a tank with a âpicture of living fishâ?
(This isnât to say Haruka is clueless to the impact of his actions, nor to justify any harm to animals. I just find the train of thought to be intriguing.)
So when considering these âobjectsâ are proud trophies of his work:
This is a carefully arranged display, which by the way, doesnât contain a single fish. In fact the only piece of that moment visible here is the...large piece of driftwood? Okay. Keep that in mind.
We proceed into Harukaâs mother opening the door and seeing her son, for the first time in any of the MVs. Note the way they composed this shot:
Iâm obsessed with this scene. The blue eye framing Haruka, with a literal fishbowl effect on him...
He is the goddamn fish in the aquarium now. His motherâs full attention is on him and him alone, with only the dead animals, the books, the lamp and the driftwood as window dressing to this wonderful display.
Doesnât it just scream âLook at me! Look at what I did, mom!â to you?
That blue spotlight is on him once more. He is not just drifting deeper into an endless ocean, but contained in a vessel to be stared at.
One Last Observation
I didnât know where to fit this in but I think the end feels appropriate.
His clothing here:
Is a frankenstein-esque mash up of clothes from his younger years. He wears this throughout AK&AA, and as I mentioned before it signifies him as an adult. However, I should clarify what I mean here as Haruka says âhe thinks heâs 17âł and âdoesnât care about his ageâ. So... not an adult, but on the cusp of adulthood.
But I think he actually does care about his age, and quite a lot too.
This outfit feels symbolic of refusing to let go of the past, and of himself as a child. Heâs literally grown out of his clothing, but he still clings onto it. Heâs attached to the past because it not only contains his happiest moments, but the change from being loved to becoming neglected.
As a disabled person, youâre often treated with a lot more forgiveness when youâre younger. That is to say, some people donât realise that children with disabilities grow up into adults with disabilities. There is a point where even support from medical and social services drops off like a cliff edge once you turn 18.
The ill-fitting clothing in this context becomes more than a reflection on Harukaâs feelings, and extends to reflecting societyâs feelings on disabled adults ârefusing to grow upâ.
I donât blame Haruka for holding onto his childhood like this. Heâll be even less publicly visible and seen once he is no longer a pitiful child, but a âweirdâ adult in ill-fitting, childrenâs clothes.
#milgram#haruka sakurai#analysis#weakness#all-knowing and all-agony#symbolism#disability#*drops this onto the fandom like a ton of bricks* hi i'm new here pleasure to meet u#oh man I finally finished it... this is a very (and I mean a VERY) long post asdfghjkl#I'm pretty happy with how it turned out though! I got most of the things I wanted to say and point out down#believe it or not there was actually MORE I could've said but I think tumblr may have crashed on me if I did that lmao#particularly to do with Weakness as I focused more on AK&AA here. but anyways#I love how morally grey everyone is in this series! It makes for some really fun analysis!#it's so so nice seeing a disabled character in such a position too and not just 'is a cinnamon roll' or 'the devil reincarnate' yknow#I debated leaving in the real-world history stuff but I think it sets the tone of my analysis pretty well and shows the importance of--#--haruka's disability not as a justification of his actions but as a vital backdrop to his environment and struggles

One of my favorite things about being in my early 20s is that I'm starting to understand that I can use things not for their intended purpose. When you're growing up, you get told what an object is and what its intended purpose is, and as a kid/teen, I just accepted all of it at face value. As a young adult it's finally clicking that I can simply do things a different way if it makes me happier. Sure, I was taught that you stand to take a shower, but there's nothing stopping me from just sitting if I don't feel like it, ya know? I might have always had my medication in the kitchen, but if I'm no longer remembering to take it, I can just move it somewhere where I can remember. You don't have to specifically store all food in the kitchen, you can have a little snack cart or snack station in another room.
The downside to finding out the various ways you can use objects is that you develop habits that would probably go on an r/relationships post where everyone says you're a little freak.
#simon says#i just developed a new habit (it's too tmi to put here) and I just know that it's some weird shit#it works and it makes me feel better so I'm gonna keep doing it#but it's some shit that would end up viral where everyone would go 'yo op you should break up with them thats weird' đ#i was just thinking about this though because every week or so I learn that I can just do what I want#because there's no fucking object use police I can do what I want#i HIGHLY suggest getting into this habit. if you find something annoying or frustrating you can just do it differently#'I hate washing the dishes because my legs hurt from standing for so long' you can bring a chair and sit or you can break it up into chunks#like on the one hand I'm learning this because I have autism and a plethora of other mental disorders#and it's FINALLY clicking that I can self accommodate whenever and however I so please#I'm just sorta learning that if doing something makes me feel better/happy/gets the job done to do that thing#even if it requires using an object in an odd way#hell there's even some little things I've been playing with#for example: my whole life we sorta just lifted blinds only about halfway up#just sorta how we did it ya know#well recently I decided I wanted more natural light in the sunroom/my office so I wouldn't have to turn on the lamp#and I lifted the blinds all the way up to the very top#and honestly?? it fucking rules. the room looks nicer; i get natural light; i can see the forest out back and it's quite calming and nice#like for ages I just never thought about doing that because it just never occurred to me that I could#i just always put blinds about halfway up because that's about how high blinds do in my household#another little one I learned is that I can just... wash my hair#sometimes when I get too depressed or if my body doesn't need a shower but my hair is greasy#I just shove my head under the bathtub facet and wash my hair#it's just a small thing but for years if my hair needed to be washed I would just take a full shower#now I just fix my greasy hair. bc greasy hair is a huge ick for me but sometimes my body is still clean or im too tired to fully shower#like there's nothing stopping me from doing that and it doesn't hurt anyone. it's just a way of bathing that I wasn't taught#but yeah those are some recent examples of me learning I can just... do stuff differently#the free will is kicking in babes and it has decided I love finding ways to use things differently#it's why im doing a bg3 run where I just press loot all no matter what and use whatever I can in odd ways#anyways I might delete this later might not who knows

Finished Danganronpa Lapse and tbh nobody gets it like I do because every review I've seen wasn't made by someone who's played zero escape Why did Echo do that? ZTD shifting strats that's why! Lyle's canonically a zero escape nerd who brings up the morphogenetic field as a quick joke and is introduced arguing about the funyarinpa, do I think all these references get in the way and that it's a bit underwhelming when this comes unexplained out of nowhere? Absolutely! But it's so clearly an element the creator was inspired by and wanted to include and play with rather than a lazy last minute deal to fix 'plot holes'
#honestly I enjoyed this game a lot and only let myself play because it ties into current hyperfixation but#it#wasn't fun to do the whole shifting thing again felt like it was way too caught up on both it's influences and trying to be it's own thing#at be very same time somehow#I liked it when it for ehat it was though#I found the characters charming to no end but sadly unexplored for the most part#loved Lyle loved Sei and Missy and so many others I want to draw them all so bad (is stranded away from drawing tablet and otherwise busy)#the bad endings inclusion feels weird#when the shifting started I thought for a second that we'd get two different trials depending on our choice which didn't turn out to be it#which I feel would have been a more fun exploration of concept than what we got#it's a free game and it's imoressive for what we got presentation wise I was in love with it begining to end I think the issues are more#at like a conceptual level#decisions that were made that could have used some more passes or even more people's input? not sure but it felt like a personal oc project#which is nice to see but just probably what's not matching expectations since the polish it lacks is in such a story structure kind of way#like the pacing and the order in which new concepts and themes are presented is a bit dissonant#and people's expectations of it being a fangan only exacerbate that slight issue#it was shorter than I expected and while I do think the pacing would have benefited from more time I get how it'd be a big undertaking#I'm overall happy and will go back to get the ending I missed but it mostly feels like there's untapped potential there#which is a great sign that whatever next project the person tackles will be pretty good#and also that I may or may not blorbo out to fill in the gaps#only time will tell though lol#danganronpa lapse

megumi's teacher â gojo satoru x reader
tags/warnings: fluff. fem!reader. gojo beefing with an eight year old. 700 words.
ever since megumi started the second grade, it's been (l/n)-sensei this. (l/n)-sensei that.
gojo picks up megumi's favorite ice cream, only to be scolded by the young boy. "(l/n)-sensei's favorite flavor is strawberry, so that's my favorite now!"
gojo tries to help him with his math homework, and it's "(l/n)-sensei did it this way. that means you should too!"
gojo reaches down to tie megumi's shoes for him, before his hand is promptly smacked away. "(l/n)-sensei said big boys tie their own shoes!"
honestly, gojo is starting to feel a little jealous. megumi's known you for what? two months?
he's been raising megumi for the past few years, but does that earn him an ounce of the adoration the young boy seems to have for you?
apparently not, though he perseveres nonetheless.
he and megumi are spending the afternoon out in the city and they stop at a small bakery for lunch.
while megumi is distracted looking at all the sweets behind the glass counter, the bell on the door draws gojo's attention.
his eyes fall upon a pretty young woman. actually, you might just be the prettiest woman he's ever seen.
and of course, a smirk forms on his lips when he catches you looking his way. he's puffing out his chest, running a hand through his hair.
he's always had a certain effect on the ladies, and he's never been more happy about that until this very momentâ
"megumi?" you call from a few feet away. the wide smile adorning your face makes you look even more radiant.
while gojo visibly deflates, megumi's head whips around at the speed of light. "(l/n)-sensei!"
oh.
gojo very quickly comes to understand why the boy is so enamored by you.
megumi launches himself at you, while you crouch to meet him with open arms.
"i'm so happy to see you!" he practically sings, clinging to your neck.
you chuckle at his enthusiasm. "i'm happy to see you too, 'gumi."
gojo clears his throat, hoping that megumi will take the chance to introduce you two, but he is completely ignored.
"what are you going to get? i'll buy it for you," he states proudly, despite having zero money of his own.
your gaze shifts to gojo for the first time, and having your attention even just for a brief moment takes his breath away.
"that's very sweet megumi, but that's alright." you ruffle his hair when he pouts at your words, standing back up. "who's this?"
"oh that's just gojo. don't worry about him," he states with a wave of his hand.
the white haired man gawks at him in response. the nerve on that kid! he silently decides megumi will be losing dessert privileges for a week. no, two.
you stifle a giggle before offering your hand to him and introducing yourself as megumi's teacher.
he repeats your name, taking satisfaction in the way it sounds rolling off his tongue.
"that's a pretty name," he compliments, trying to recover from megumi's dismissal. "heard a lot about you. in fact, the kid never shuts up about you."
this earns him a glare from megumi, but gojo is too preoccupied with the shy look that crosses your features to notice.
gojo insists on paying for your order, a show of appreciation for taking such good care of megumi in class. you chat with the pair of them for a little while longer before eventually excusing yourself.
"thank you again, gojo-san. i'll see you on monday, megumi!"
just as you're turning on your heel, gojo calls your name and you look back at him expectantly.
"when, uh," he struggles, scratching the back of his neck. "when do i get to see you?"
nice.
"oh! well, parent-teacher conferences are only a few weeks away! i'll look forward to seeing you then," you answer sweetly, misunderstanding the meaning behind his words.
you bid them goodbye once more and they both watch your figure disappear down the street.
megumi turns to look at gojo smugly. "weeks? that sounds like a really long timeâ"
"shut it, kid."

ââËïœĄâ SHE'S BACK!
GUESS HE COULDN'T KEEP IT IN, SO HE HAD TO KEEP IT INSIDE! âËâč⥠dilf!gojo satoru x teacher!reader
tags: smut, unprotected sex, breeding kink, exhibitionism, getting caught, he fucks you while he's on the phone, overstimulation, dumbfication, fluff, gojo has an ex-wife, yuuji is gojo's son, age-gap.
A/N: well, this was surely and adventure and maybe self-indulgent title because guess what?, i'm back baby.
It was a nice morning, he felt clean. Like his life was finally steadying. Even after some stressful weeks trying to get rid of his now ex-wife, he won the trial and kept Yuuji. Poor little boy, just turning 5 years old and heâs already facing all this type of stress. But thankfully he will not be experiencing enduring his crazy mother behavior. Which basically was a gold digger, and a bitchâ Not that he would ever say that outloud, maybe with other words? Bastard? Witch? Not that it really matters right now.
He could finally take a break now, just focusing on raising his little boy, and being an old boring 31 year old dad. Life doesnât sound that bad.
âDaddy! Daddy!,â His son went running to his arms, almost stumbling by himself- clear happiness shown on his face. Quickly, Gojo opened his arms ready to lift the young kid. âMiss Y/N congratulated me on my homework! She was pretty amazed!â
Your name wasnât unknown to him, Yuuji was very open when talking about his favorite teacher, even though he hasnât seen you yet- from what heâs been told youâre the kidâs favorite, including Yuujiâs. âI had to talk about whoâs my hero, and I chose you!â If this day wasnât going great, it was now. Because his son's comment just made his whole week, life even.
âOh look dad!â The little boy pointed towards your moving frame, each time getting clñoser towards them. âDaddy, this is Miss Y/N!â Yuuji kept presenting the both of you. He was really excited to present his two favorite persons to each other- but all Gojo could think of whatâs how young and beautiful you looked. He expected someone older, maybe even an old lady with wrinkles and that loving grandma vibes, but what he saw made his heart beat in a way he never thought he would feel ever more.
âDaddy? Are you paying attention?â The little boy gained Gojoâs attention back, face now looking at him again. âIâm sorry kiddo, kinda just zoned out there. What did you just say?â
âUhh, what was it? Oh! Did I tell you Miss Y/N told me you were a very handsome man?â
âYuuji!â His gaze moved towards your blushed face, a hand covering part of your face. âIâm so sorry Mr.Gojo, I didnât intend to say-â
Gojo cut you off before you could continue apologizing âItâs okay, I also think Ms.Y/N is a very beautiful woman.âÂ
Uh, well. So this is how kinda you found yourself in this situation right now.
You swear it wasnât your intention! You really tried, you really did, but how could someone say no to Mr.Gojo? And mostly because he really showed his attraction towards you. Sending Yuuji with a rose for you every day, and the little boy was rooting for his dad, because dear god- he did not shut up about him, and how happy he would be with a new girlfriend and maybe one he could call âmommyâ and give him a sister.Â
That made you blush.Â
Not only because the little boy commented on it, and was agreeing- but because it was his dadâs idea.
âYouâre so wet, s-shit.â Loud thrusts filled the room, he was fucking you raw on his sofaâ waiting for Yuujiâs mom to bring him back, the little boy was eager to come back and âsee Ms.Y/N and his daddy finally starting to fall in loveâ
Kids being kids. But, he was right- the both of you were falling in love with eachother.
Gojo throws back his head, immersed in the warmth radiating off your walls and he lets your moans take him to another world. In a haste decision, he slips your dress over your head before tossing it. He mouths at your tits, plump and stiff between his lips, and he hurdles a deeper round of thrusts inside you.Â
When you get a little too loud, his hand comes over to clamp your mouth, wolf like eyes staring back at you, âShut it. You donât deserve to speak.â
His thin white tee that stays a barrier between you and him does not hide the rippling body underneath that seemed to be sculpted by gods. He presses into you, grunting, using you like his personal sex doll and you embrace it, thrive from it, come to it. Your hips contract, slewing in perfect circles, before having your legs fall gradually lifeless as you arousal drip down your thighs.
âFfffucckkk- oh baby, would you like that? Be full of me and my baby? Make me a daddy again?â
âyesyesyesyes, make me yours Mr.Gojo-âÂ
He pays your climax no mind,a smirk clearly showing on his face while he fucks you on his sofa- You could muffle your screams of pleasure easier here. Turning your head back to face him, you notice now heâs shirtlessâtaut and shiny from sweat like a large set of Hawaiian rollsâbefore seeing how quick he is to fit back inside you.
âGood girl.â His husky voice resonates and pushes you back into the sheets. âGood girls get rewards, donât they?â Your poor fucked up mind couldnât think clearly now. The way your abused and overstimulated pussy was still taking his rock hard cock gratefully inside you was making every feel giddy. A sudden noise bringing back a little part of your senses, Gojo clearly grunting grabbed his what you suppose phone, and answered. Not bothering to stop his thrusts.
âYeah?,â His voice sounded almost like a whisper because of how breathy it was. âGojo? Iâm almost at your house- Yuuji wanted some ice-cream and bought some for you and⊠your new girlfriend?â His chuckle interrupted his ex-wifeâs conversation, accompanied with a whimper at the feeling of you clenching on him- overstimulation clearly bringing you back to climax soon again.
A slap was heard from his part of the line, an unbelievable laugh coming from his ex-wife line, clearly noticing what was going on and then she finally heard you moan. You couldnât keep it in anymore, and you were too fucked out to feel embarrased about it right now.
âFinish before I leave Yuuji- Enjoy yourself.â Gojo was so lost in pleasure that he didnât even realize she hung up before he even processed what happened.
His grunts and sounds of skins slapping are all you hear as he pounds you back into the sofa. It feels like heaven beneath his weight. You were feeling flushed to the touch, but making contact with his skin was like an inferno. He was the embodiment of heat and as suffocating as that couldâve been, it melts you like itâs how it always shouldâve been.
His pace eventually falters, followed by a hushed âfuck,â and he empties out into your used hole. The moment he pulled out, a knock was heard.Â
âShit. Can you walk?â

My Boss Won't Be Happy About This - A.H
a/n: back to bimbo brain rot!!!! inspired by the first season that one episode (you know the one) where hotch is all macho man with elle in jamaica
masterlist
âË â©Â°ïœĄâ⥠âËâĄâĄ âËâĄâĄâïœĄÂ°â©Ëââ§
pairings: aaron hotchner x bimbo!assistant!reader
summary: youâre wrongfully arrested and hotch is not happy about it
warnings: creepy officer, inaccuracies of how law enforcement works, hotch being sexy
wc: 1.3k
"Listen I'm not the type of girl to tell someone how to do their job, but I just don't think you're doing it right."
You were speaking to an empty room, or at least, you were speaking to the mirror in front of you. It's the kind of mirror you had seen in countless interrogation scenes, the kind you usually image Hotch standing behind. You let your gaze linger, wondering if eyes are studying you from the other side, listening to your monologue.
"Well, that, and I also just don't think it's very nice." Your brand spanking new heels were tapping against the dirty floor.Â
You weren't happy about that. You weren't happy about any of this. Your feet ache, but the fear of the germs lurking on the floor paralyzes any thoughts of relief by removing your shoes.
"And hey, shouldn't I get a phone call? That's a rule, I think," you mumble, lips turning downward in an unusual frown. It seems like the right time for it. "My boss is not going to take this well. I mean, he's got this look, you know? The kind that makes you want to apologize for things you didn't even do."
You conjured up his daunting expression and released a jittery laugh, all while striving to disregard the biting cold blasting from the AC vent, which seemed determine to freeze you into place.Â
You were seriously out of your element, not just in surroundings but in dress--so form-fitting it left very little to the imagination. It seemed to be a good idea for a date. That was before you realized said date would be a complete disaster. Now, it felt like a trap. It had been a spectacle for a man unworthy of the effort, and as you sat in this rigid chair, you found yourself tugging at the hem every other moment, a futile attempt to preserve some semblance of modesty.
"So, when he hears about this little error... Well, let's just say I wouldn't want to be in your shoes." Six hours had passed in this dreary space, and you could feel your sanity fraying at the edges. You muttered, half to yourself, "Not that they're as cute as mine, but you get the point."
The door hinge's creak made you sit bolt upright, a silent supplication for Hotch's rescue echoing through your mind. But today, it seemed, the gods were indifferent. The officer who had arrested you stepped in.
"Having fun talking to yourself?"
You flashed your sweetest smile. "Oh, tons! But I'd have much more fun if you'd uncuff me."
He said nothing, folding his arms over his chest as he dragged his gaze up and down your body in a way that made your skin prickle in discomfort. You attempted to dispel the creeping dread, but it stubbornly lingered.
You did what you could to cover up, despite the awkward angle of your arms. "Listen, this is all just a big mistake. I work for the FBI," you insisted, though it was clear the officer's attention was fixated on your tits rather than your words. "Well, I mean, I'm an assistant for the unit chief of the BAU unit. You've heard of Aaron Hotchner, haven't you?"
The officer's mouth closed without a word, as the door was thrust open yet again, and this time, your heart leapt in recognition. Your knight in shining armor with a lethal expression.
His eyes instantly zeroed in on the officer with a look that could curdle blood, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that you weren't the object of his anger. He approached you wordlessly, his every motion precise and determined.
He carefully shed his jacket, a gesture he seldom made, and draped it across your shoulders. The fleeting caress of his hand against your skin was enough to make you lean into his touch. You let out a breath that you had been unconsciously holding back.Â
You watched as Hotch turned, his voice a low, steady force, his words carefully chosen and tinged with an unsettling peace. "Officer," he began, the title spoken almost as warning. "I believe there has been a grave misunderstanding. This woman is not only an esteemed member of the FBI, but she is also under my direct supervision."
He stepped closer, encroaching on the officer's personal space. You watched, almost in slow motion, as the officer's expression morphed into one of sheer terror, his earlier confidence dissolving like sugar in hot tea.
"Six hours," he continued, his voice never rising yet somehow it took up all the space in the confined room. "Six hours of unwarranted detention, without due process. I expect her immediate release. And make no mistake, this lapse in judgment will have its ramifications."
The officer was mute, his fingers clumsily unlocking the handcuffs, his movements hurried, his hands trembling. A twinge of pity flickered within you, but it was quickly overshadowed by the memory of considering the table as a makeshift blanket.
The moment the metal clicked open; you wasted no time. You flung your arms around Hotch, the pent relief and biting chill of the past few hours pouring out of you. You were desperate for warmth, specifically his warmth.
He stiffened, caught off guard by your actions. You feel the anger radiating through him, practically pulsing through his skin. As you clung to him, you felt the draft on your legs as your dress slid up, and without missing a beat Hotch's hand discreetly adjusted the fabric, all while keeping his eyes locked on the officer, a silent warning in his gaze.
Once he was certain you were decently covered, he allowed himself to draw him into his arms. One arm secured around your waist, the other weaving through your hair. You were cold. It renewed another tide of rage through his bloodstream.
With the officer's departure, the room's oppressive atmosphere lightened a touch, leaving you still latched onto your boss.
"Oh, sir, you wouldn't believe it," you started, his hands tracing up your spine and sparking a trail of goosebumps that had nothing to do with the chill. "They kept asking me about a heist, as if I'd know anything about that! And then they show me this picture, and I mean, sure, she had my hair, but that's about it."
You rambled on, and he let you, the absurdity of the situation pouring out in a stream of consciousness. Hotch's hold on you tightened. You could sense the coiled tension in him, a tempest of anger held a bay.
"And the room, it was so cold! I mean, I'm sure you can tell. My teeth were chattering, and all I could think of was how I'd rather be filing your paperwork or listening to Reid's factoids about the quantum mechanics of coffee beans."
You felt Hotch's breath on your hair as he let out a sigh.Â
"I'm just glad you're here now," you whispered, finally allowing yourself to relax in his embrace.
Hotch gave a curt nod, his jaw set. He was itching to confront the officer, to unleash a tirade not meant for your ears. But he was well aware of how much you needed him right now, and that trumped everything in his book.
Hotch took a moment to compose himself before speaking. "This isn't just incompetence; it's negligence. I will have this place reevaluated for its standards, or lack thereof."
You took a step back, hands still resting on his arms, and he maintained his grip on your waist. "I bet this is the last time you'll let me go on a date without a full background check on the guy, huh, sir?"
Hotch's hold on your waist firmed just a fraction. "Maybe it's the last time I let you go on a date, period."
He was only half-joking.
"Not even with you?" You tilted your head to meet his gaze, drawing his jacket closer around you.
Hotch just simply gives you that look, the one that says a thousand words without a sound. He's telling you to tread lightly.
"Alright, I'll be good," you giggle, the tension easing from your shoulders. "Can you take me home now, please?"
He nods, "Yeah, let's get you home."
And then he leads you out, thinking to himself that the next person to take you out will be him, but that's for him to know and you to find out later.

Dream Girl
⥠masterlist - request!
⥠pairing - lando norris x fem!reader
⥠summary - when being interviewed, the conversation gets on the topic of you, lando's long term obsession crush, never in a million years did he think you would actually notice him
⥠warnings - obsessed/simp lando
⥠w/c & a/n - 0.85k | I hope you all are doing good! as usual send any requests xoxo
"Good afternoon, Lando! We're happy to have you here with us today," the interviewer smiles, sat across from the driver.
"Great to be here," he nods, putting his hands on his lap and leaning back into the chair, "Wow, nice chairs you've got here."
The interviewer laughs, "Glad you approve of them. So, let's get started with the questions, shall we?" Lando nods and the lady clears her throat, "First off, when racing at the high speeds you do, what are some things you're thinking about? Or maybe I should say, a someone?"
Let's rewind. If there was one thing, besides being a Formula 1 driver, that everyone knew Lando Norris for, it was having the world's most massive crush on you. In fact, pretty much everyone was aware of this; except for you.
You wouldn't call yourself oblivious, per se. You just weren't really one to be online, so you never saw all the drama surrounding Lando's infatuation with you.
He has been enamored with you for about three years now, and he made it everyone's problem. From liking instagram updates of you, to commenting on pictures and videos of you, to even reposting edits of you. His friends must have sat through hours and hours of hearing him just speak about your beauty and personality.
His friends teased him about it quite often, though he was never really embarrassed over it. He truly just found everything about you beautiful, you were his dream girl, everything he'd ever want in a woman.
"Well, uh, I think about, you know, winning. Also what I'm going to eat after, and uh.. my girl," he nods with a slight grin.
The interviewer raises her eyebrows, "I wasn't informed you finally got a girlfriend," she says, surprised.
He laughs and shakes his head, "No, no. She's not my girlfriend... yet. Although I'm not even sure if she knows that I exist, but I'm working on it."
"Ah, I should have known," the lady smiles at his flustered state, "I wish you luck with that. Now I believe we should move onto the more important questions, before I get in trouble," she taps on her clipboard.
The rest of the interview seemed like forever for Lando, now that he was thinking about you again, as he usually is.
You're in your bed, watching one of your favorite shows, How I Met Your Mother, when your phone starts to blow up with your friends messaging you and sending you a link to a YouTube video of some F1 interview.
You open the video is none other than the very cute, Lando Norris. Of course you knew who he was, you kept up with Formula 1 on your free time and enjoyed watching the races.
As the video is playing through, you open the comments and your eye go wide at everyone saying your name and commenting on how hot of a couple you two would make. You furrow your eyebrows at some comments talking about how devoted to you he must be for liking you for several years without a single interaction.
You continue to watch the video and your cheeks turn pink as he talks about, well you. You couldn't believe that he liked you like that, surely you were well-known, and you weren't too bad looking, but one of the best current racers in the world crushing on you?
After the video ended you messaged your best friend back, asking what you should do. She, of course, told you to message him on instagram.
You thought over the idea for a bit, before nervously clicking on his account and following him back before beginning to type.
Lando was hanging out with Oscar around the garage when he hears his phone ping with a notification. He glances at it and turns his phone off again before doing a double check to make sure he saw it right. You had followed him.
"OSCAR," he yells and turns to his friend, holding the phone in his face, "SHE FOLLOWED ME, LOOK," he waves the phone.
Oscars jaw drops, never did he see this day coming, "Wow! Mate, thats fantastic, and look! It seems like she just sent you a message!"
"What? I might faint, Oscar," the boys hands shake with excitement and nerves as he clicks on your message. "Hi! I saw your interview, and I must say, I'm truly flattered," Lando reads as his face turns dark pink, he didn't think you'd see it, guess he was wrong.
Oscar starts laughing, "Text her back!"
"I don't know what to say, I've never spoken to her in my life," he panics.
"Mate, she saw you call her your girl, it's a bit too late to be nervous," Oscar smiles, patting his friend's pack. Lando chews his lip and writes back, heart pounding.
After a few messages were exchanged and an anticipated Oscar waiting for an update clears his throat, Lando looks up from the phone with the brightest smile Oscar has ever seen on him, "Guess who scored himself a date with his future wife this Saturday?"

housewardens + Jamil (separately) with a reader who is their s/o and reader is low-key their simp
like they won't worship the ground they walk on, but they just.. admire..??
like reader and the character will be hanging out, on a date, or in class or something and reader just sighs dreamily and looks at them with a look of like "im the luckiest person alive." because they love them so much
and if caught the reader won't be embarrassed and will just be like "you're so pretty." or "I'm so happy we're dating"
ik it's cringe lol but if I had one of these men as my boyfriend (cough Idia cough) I would literally just admire them so much because I love them so much and they're so freaking pretty
SWEEEEP I love fluff I love a healthy couple
*à©â©â§âË abject admiration
summary: close enough. welcome back gomez addams! type of post: headcanons characters: riddle, leona, azul, kalim, jamil, vil, idia, malleus additional info: romantic, FLUFFY!, reader is gender neutral, reader is yuu, established relationship
Riddle used to hate being stared at. it felt like judgment, like he was being put on trial for something he didn't do. as if the world was just... waiting for him to make a mistake so it could punish him. the first time he catches you staring, long before you were together, he almost had your head for it. now, the feeling of your eyes on him has become a comfort, though your words of admiration, your praises and affection, still make him blush
*à©â©â§âË
Leona couldn't even remember the last time his parents told him they loved him. so when he hears it from you, his first instinct is to push you away. he thinks it's justified; you must want something, I mean, who would be so nice to him for no reason?
well, you. you would
he'd never admit it, but these days, he goes out of his way to do nice things for you, to make himself look and smell good, just to get more of your praises
*à©â©â§âË
"you're so beautiful" and Azul crumbles. as cunning as he is, you could have him eating out of the palm of your hand if you really wanted to. he considers himself a fortunate soul, because all you ask for in return is his time and affection
your compliments are better than any deal, your voice more melodious than any song. the very thought that you think he is pretty... him, of all people... well, you could bring him to his knees with a word
*à©â©â§âË
fawning over Kalim is absolutely impossible. he's not competitive by nature, but what you give him, he gives back ten times over. one kiss turns into ten, two gifts into twenty, and, of course, one praise turns into an entire soliloquy. you're lucky to have him? he's luckier than the richest man in the world, the most powerful mage, he insists even the Sorcerer of the Sands himself would fall to his knees and weep if he were to see your beauty. you're his sun, his moon, and his stars, and he never lets you forget it
*à©â©â§âË
Jamil had never been in love, let alone in a relationship, before you. you're his first everything... and that means you're his first admirer, too. honestly, he's not really sure whether to believe you or not at first. "I'm so happy we're dating," surely, you're not talking about him...?
but you are. he can't even fathom why, but you are
...sometimes, it's better not to question everything
*à©â©â§âË
Vil gets his fair share of compliments, and rightfully so. he's put in the work, he deserves the recognition. and, for Seven's sake, Rook is his vice housewarden- he can't escape compliments
but... somehow, they're so much different coming from you. maybe it's the way you say things, soft and gentle and full of admiration, maybe it's your voice, or maybe it's just because it's you. because he knows that when you say you're happy with him, you mean him, not the brand, not the image, not what he's expected to be. just... him. it's true love
*à©â©â§âË
Idia.exe has stopped working
even after months of dating, you still manage to catch him off guard with your "cringe couple stuff", as he calls it. it's... very distracting. you'll be mid-game, staring at him, and when he asks if you hit your head on the way in, you'll say something like "just thinking about how pretty you are" and his brain will short circuit. it's too bad he can't patch that... he'd love to respond without melting into an Idia-shaped puddle
*à©â©â§âË
being head over heels for Malleus is both a blessing and a curse. on one hand, he'll reciprocate that energy. on the other hand, he'll reciprocate that energy. even a simple "you look nice today" sends him over the moon with joy, and he will unapologetically cling to your side like the needy thing he is for the rest of the day, glaring at anyone who dares to take your attention off of him for more than twelve seconds. but, hey, you know what you like. you agreed to date him in the first place, after all

The restaurant address that Kai sent you was just a ten minute taxi ride away, save for the five minutes you spent trying to evasively maneuver through the hotel lobby in order to avoid running into people youâre not too keen on seeing right now, a list that stacks up to just one person at this moment.
Itâs a Korean barbecue place, itâs been ages since youâve been to one, probably since theyâre way too expensive for any sort of outing you could afford these days, but the crisp sizzling sounds of the grills and the savory air has your mouth watering in a way that makes you indifferent to the cost. Anything to get this churning feeling out of your stomach.Â
Itâs instantly brought to your attention that Hanaâs tipsy off of Soju because sheâs slid out of the booth the second you emerge to the tablestide, and sheâs onto her feet to pull you into a hug. You hug her back.
âIâm ssssoooooooo glad youâreâhicâhere,â she says, voice sounding loud near your ear, but her embrace is surprisingly calming to you.
Her face appears flushed when you pull away, and you give her a smile and a kind hold of her elbow. âIâm happy to be here, sorry for coming late, I just decided I wanted to have dinner with you all.â
Minato is pulling on Hanaâs arm to get her to sit down, which she finally agrees to, and you glance to the left side of the table where Kai sat, meticulously turning over pieces of meat on the grill. His eyes are on you, and the seat next to him is empty.
âYou look nice,â he says, eyes falling to your lap under the table once youâve taken a seat next to him.
Your eyes fall to your lap as well. âOh. Thanks. I wasnât really trying to look any sort of way, though.â Just faded jeans with a few rips & holes you made yourself, way back in high school when that sort of thing was trendy.
âI know,â he says, smirk heard perfectly through his words, âI like that.â
You ignore him, a fleeting thought passing through your head of how annoyingly forward men are to women theyâve met within a day, just something youâve noticed recently, and then youâre accepting the glass of Soju that Minatoâs poured for you. Quick to tip it back, you feel a burn on your tongue thatâs just enough to distract.
âTodayâs game was pretty interesting,â Minato speaks up, picking up a few pieces off the grill with his chop sticks and placing them on Hanaâs plate first before taking some for himself. You find the gesture sweet. âThe first half was intense.â
Hana nods enthusiastically, elbows rested on the tabletop as she waves her hands around in the air. âUh huh, uh huh, the boys kicked the ball like whoosh. Goes all over the place! Canât get aâhicâcanât get a single shot. No, I mean me, I canât get a camera shot. Not them, they can get the shots of goals. The goals of shots? Huh.â
âAlright, youâve had enough,â Minato grumbles as he drags the glass of Soju that she was nursing away from her.Â
Kai lets out a laugh beside you, his knee bumping against yours under the table. âIâve watched so many of these soccer games for this job, and Iâve still got no damn clue what the rules are.â
You blink down at your empty plate for a second before grabbing the silver chopsticks laid neatly on your napkin, and taking some food from the center of the table. âReally? Iâve only been to a couple, and I feel like I get the gist of it.â Maybe itâs because you had a personal interest, though.
Kai lets out a low whistle next to you. âOkay, youâre a smartass then.â
You give him a sidewards glance. âMaybe youâre just dumb?âÂ
Your own words startle you a bit. Minato lets a laugh out, but under his breath, while Hana does absolutely nothing to conceal hers. Kaiâs eyes just widen. You bite down on a carrot stick.
âHey, hey, hey, y/n,â Hana chirps, tapping at your wrist, âdo you know any of the soccer players? Utahime said you doooo.â
You swallow slowly to buy yourself time, but give a preliminary shake of your head before answering, âno, not really.â You catch a whiff of the cologne on your wrist when you lift your glass to your lips.
âOh,â she sulks her shoulders and then sinks down into the booth again, her head falling onto Minatoâs shoulder. The man stiffens a bit and then thereâs a content smile playing at his lips. A hint of a smile develops on your face too at the sight when you put two and two together. What an adorable little crush. It makes you feel sick.
Kai pours you some more Soju the second you drink down the last of it in your glass, and you nod to him as a thanks. âPretty sure most of my photos from the first half are fucked,â he says, dragging the opening of the bottle against the rim of your glass before pulling it away, âdidnât realize until way later that my aperture was way off.â
You bring the glass to your lips, inhaling before taking a sip. Youâre about to speak up about that when Minato beats you to it.
âAre you serious?â he asks, disappointed, like theyâre suddenly talking business now. âI better see some good shots. Your side was where most of the action took place. Like that through-pass, tight behind the defensive line, from Nanami Kento to Gojo Satoru before he sunk it a couple mins before the half ended.â
You choke a little on your Soju at the mention of Gojoâs name, and then all three of them are looking at you. You wave a hand in front of your face. âSorry.âÂ
Kai grumbles something under his breath and then stuffs a piece of pork belly into his mouth. âYeah, whatever, man. Iâm pretty sure I got some good ones. Donât worry.â
Dinner goes on like that, where you count the number of times Kai thinks that someone saying something funny across the table is an excuse to press his thigh against yours, but at least the cute way that Hana and Minato seem to inch closer to one another all night is enough to put you at some sort of bitter ease. But that unsettling feeling in your stomach from a couple of hours ago still lingers.
The four of you stand outside the restaurant, heels rocking back and forth in the cold as you all take up the last chance to debrief the day, and then Minatoâs glancing at his watch.
âAlright, itâs probably time to head back. We can all share a ride to the hotel, itâs cheaper that way,â Minato says. Hanaâs clinging to his sleeve.
âOh, uh, I was going to stay here. Thereâs a cool camera shop around the corner. I was gonna check it out,â Kai says, pointing over his shoulder before glancing at you. âWanna come? I saw theyâve got used film cameras.â
You twiddle with the hotel key card in your pocket. Itâs cheap plastic, could break easily with just the right amount of pressure. Like your resolve right now. âSure.â
He smiles at you.
âAlright, well I need to get this one back to her room,â Minato says with a sigh, pointing to Hana, âso Iâll see you all at the next game?â
You and Kai nod at him and then watch as he walks away with Hana on his arm towards the curb, pulling his phone out to call for a ride.
âWhereâs this camera shop at?â you ask Kai once the silence between the two of you stretches out a little too long.Â
âIt really is just around the corner,â he says, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jacket. He starts walking down the row of miscellaneous shops and establishments under dim street lighting, and you follow after him before the two of you circle to the adjacent end. A tiny shop in the distance catches your eye. The LED sign above the storefront was blinking sporadically, and read 17th St Camera & Rentals, except half the letters were extinct of any light. Next to it was a 24/7 liquor store.
Itâs only when you walk right up to it that you realize the sign dangling behind the glass door that says closed.
âOh. Bummer,â Kai comments in a flat tone. âI swear it was open before I got to the restaurant.â
You sigh, pulling your phone out to glance at the time. âYeah, at 8pm? Itâs past 10 now.â
He looks at you and taps the camera case still hung at his neck. âThatâs fine. Iâve still got a camera to show you, anyways.â
You blink your eyes at him, suddenly feeling a bit exhausted and then glance over your shoulder at the curb of the street to see if Minato & Hana were still there waiting for a ride. You donât see them anymore.Â
A distraction. Wasnât that what you wanted?
âYeah, show me.â
Kai seems to know the area better than you, since he walks down the haphazardly lain sheets of concrete across the ground with more confidence than a tourist would. The thought occurs to you that maybe the newsletter photographers have eaten here before during their time in Kyoto.
âWhat made you start working with the newsletter?â you ask, glancing at him as the two of you walk down further, into what seems like a neighborhood.
He shrugs. âFirst job I could find out of college. I had a lot of freelance experience, so Iâm assuming thatâs why they hired me.â He nudges your arm with his elbow. âWhat about you?â
âIâve known Utahime for a while. She was impressed with my work.â
âAhh, connections,â he muses, âsmart. Thatâll get you far as an artist.â
He suddenly stops walking and peers off to the right, into a darkness that you canât really make anything out of until youâve spent a few seconds staring too. He walks in that direction, the loud echoing stomps of his boots on concrete no longer audible once he crosses the threshold onto grass, and you follow behind to what seems like a deserted childrenâs park. You wish there were more trees in the city. There are a lot here in the countryside, and it makes you homesick for something youâre not even sure of.
A gust of wind brushes through, rattling the set of swings hung on rusty chains. The wood chips underneath your feet feel stale, with no snap to them at all as you follow Kai through the playhouses set up in connected fashion. There are two picnic benches, one looks like itâs been freshly painted with faux effort to improve its image in the line of sight of the street, while the other has red paint peeled back to reveal bronze underneath the moonlight, neglected and tucked behind a few trees. The latter is what he chooses.
He slides into the bench, and he shakes his head when he sees you try to take a seat on the other side before patting at the seat beside him. âItâd be easier for you to take a look at my side.â
He has a point, so you sit next to him instead. Although at this point in the night, you were feigning interest. He zips his camera bag open and you take a better look at the lens. Thereâs no way it was as cheap as he told you it was.
âThereâs no way this was as cheap as you told me it was,â you say.
He laughs, pulling the camera out and handing it to you. âYeah, maybe the guy cut me a deal since Iâve bought from him before.â
Youâre smart enough to put the strap around your neck, even though youâre only holding it a few inches above the table, because a camera like this deserves the care and respect. The material is minimalist and sleek, and itâs heavy in your hands. You click the shutter button, screen coming to life with a few mechanic chirps. âWoah. Is it LCD or OLED?â
âLCD.â
âThatâs nice,â you say, âpaying for the OLED just seems silly to me.â
âI concur, Canon. Color accuracy is king.â
He shuffles to pull something out of his pocket while you continue to inspect the camera in your hands, and you see him fidget with said thing over the table in the corner of your eye. The flick of something and the light of something makes you turn your head to face him, and heâs pinching the end of a joint to his mouth, lighting the other end.
He gives you a glance when you stare for too long, inhaling from it before pulling it from his mouth. âWhat?â You can see the smoke leave his mouth in the chill of the air.
âIs that why you chose the secluded bench?â
âI did? Didnât even notice.â
You blink at him, and he places his elbow on the table to lean closer to you.Â
âDo you mind it?â he asks.
âNo, not really.â
âWanna smoke with me?â Two fingers pinching the origin of smoke tilt towards you. âThis is my good weed, though, so, I charge by the drag.â
âThatâs ridiculous, and no thanks. It doesnât suit me.â
He lets out a laugh, releasing whatever tension he was building in your space, and the smell of weed is nauseating, but at least it's a new sensation to you.
âYouâve gotta be the only film major on the planet that doesnât smoke weed. How do you manage?â he asks, the orange flicker of his joint being the only color you can distinctly see under the similarly flickering street lights.Â
Your finger traces the rim of the camera lens and is careful to not smudge the glass. âI think I manage just fine.â
âYeah. With delusion,â he says, coughing, scattering smoke into the air this time instead of a clean blow.
You turn a bit in your seat to face him more, placing the camera down. âYouâre extremely blunt.â
His eyebrow raises in amusement and you close your eyes with annoyance at the pun. You brush it off.
âI mean, seriously, I get youâre probably just looking out for me, I guess. I appreciate that. But do you really think my dreams of becoming a filmmaker are that far-fetched?â you ask. Thereâs a crack to your voice at the end that you didnât like.
He sighs, setting his wrist down on the table. Thereâs a long pause where he thinks about what to say. Probably the most youâve seen him consider what words leave his mouth next. âI was in the same shoes as you, y/n. A couple years ago. I, too, had big dreams of making movies. I was going to apply to film grad school as well, although youâre shooting higher than I was at the time. Thereâs no way I wouldâve gotten into UTokyoâs.â He tilts his head to the side a few times while looking straight off ahead. âI sent scripts in everywhere. To every fucking production company, creative agency, you name it. Never got a callback, not even once. While all my fellow grads were landing decent, respectable jobs.â He brings the joint to his mouth again, but he doesnât inhale, just bitterly bites it. âI couldâve went on like that, but,â his brow furrows, âIâve seen my peers torture themselves for years for those dreams of theirs. I swore I wouldnât be one of them. Because theyâre all delusional fucks.â He finally glances at you. âAre you one, too?â
Your shoulders drop a little and your lips purse. âI donât know yet. Itâs too early to say.âÂ
âItâs never too early to say, if the outcome is all the same,â he tells you.Â
You consider his words for a moment. Itâs the easy way out. You should consider yourself lucky. Everyone wants a reason, a sign, to turn away from the one thing theyâre scared to think about. And here he was, giving that to you on a silver platter.
But if what you wanted was really all that fragile, then it means thereâs nothing to show for any of it. For all the effort it took you to get here, and all the effort youâre still willing to give.Â
âIâll keep going until I fail,â you say, âor until I succeed.â Itâs not really something you say for him, but for yourself.
He juts his bottom lip out and raises his eyebrows, slowly nodding his head, like heâs impressed by you. But his posture remains lax. âI mean, youâre working this job. Youâve got some sort of plan, at least. Itâs not like Iâm your parent to tell you what to do and what not to do.â He finally takes another drag, eyebrows pinching together at the same time his fingers pinch close to the burn of his joint to pull it away. âWhatâs that one saying? You can take a horse to the water, but you canât make it drink.â
âWow. You donât sound a day older than sixty-five.â
He smirks at you. âYouâve got a lot of attitude, Canon. Where does it come from?â
You sink a little in your seat, turning away from him to look down at your hands that were still messing with the features of his camera. âMy annoying feelings lately.â
âFeelings about what?â
You consider telling the truth. But you donât. âMy car is in repair and Iâm not sure I can afford to pay for the bill, since things keep coming up with it.â It was the thing at the top of your mind at the moment though, for some reason, so partially truthful.
He laughs. âYeah, cars have a way of doing that when youâre finally getting caught up on bills.â
âAt what point does spontaneously picking up random, obscure jobs go from omg Iâm so excited to have this opportunity to I just need the money?â you ask.
âYou mean youâre not already at that point yet?â he says with a scoff. âSoon, then.â
You sigh.
âYâknow I used to work at this lousy cinema a few miles away from Central,â he tells you, hand tapping the table with a rhythm that makes no sense. âBusted my ass working minimum wage on night shifts because I thought Iâd catch a big break in conversation with a director, as if Martin Fucking Scorcese would choose to host his opening night at a random Edwards in Tokyo.â His tapping on the table stops. âTell me that isnât pathetic as hell.â
âThatâs pathetic as hell.â
âThe things youâll do for money,â he says with a sigh. He sounds detached, like itâs really just a message for you.
You lick your lips, skin feeling dry from the wind that occasionally brushes by, and when you glance at Kai again, thereâs a grit to his jaw.
âShouldâve been born as one of those damn college athletes,â he grumbles, sucking in fast through the joint that was close to withering away. âThose fuckers donât pay tuition.â
The harsh colors of the soccer teamâs color-coded practice schedule on your phone are visible when you blink, as well as the exhaustion under Gojoâs eyes in the warm lighting of the hotel lobby earlier tonight. âThey work hard.â
He looks at you. âI work hard, too.â
Your shoulders tense. âIâm sure.â
âYou work hard as well.â Just to include you.
âYeah.â
âI mean, you canât tell me that itâs fair.â
Your mind wanders to some of the people youâve met on that team, who have been nice to you. You think of Gojo, and the memory of him makes you wish you were with him right now. Despite everything.
âI guess itâs not fair,â is all you say, a tactic to diffuse the conversation, one that youâve had to use twice with him today. The sound of the swing chains clinking together from the wind in the distance runs a chill down your spine.
You feel heavy in your chest, and you glance at the joint pinched in between Kaiâs fingers. Heâs not keeping an eye on it, so itâs easy to steal, and you bring it to your lips before sucking in. You instantly let out a few coughs. Heâs looking at you with surprise. And youâre still in desperate need of that distraction youâve been craving.
âHow long does it take for it to kick in?â you ask, coughing again and pressing a hand to your chest.
âSuper long when you can barely stomach a single drag.â
You try again. He watches you. You swear you feel a buzz this time, and you hand the joint back to him. You feel like youâre having an out-of-body experience.
âHow are you feeling?â he asks.
âGood,â you tell him, âreally good.â
âThatâs gotta be placebo, Canon.â
âNo, really,â you sigh it. Even if it was, maybe your mind was just blessing you with a single moment of reprieve. âI feelâŠreally good,â you say with your head in a haze. âBest IâveâŠâ you donât know why you have to blink back tears, âbest Iâve felt this whole week.â
Kaiâs silent next to you. You look over at him, and heâs got a scrutinizing expression on his face. His eyes are glazed. âYou seeing anyone right now, Canon?â
Itâs the savory question you know has been on the tip of his tongue. Ignorantly asked, as if you wouldâve been sitting here with him right now in the dead of night if the answer was yes.Â
âNo.â
Heâs leaning towards you, and youâre dazed and also sleepy. His face is close now, thereâs an urge to giggle, which means thereâs no way this is all just placebo, and when his lips dip towards yours, youâre conscious enough to push him away by a weakly fisted hand pressed to his collarbone.
âOh. I. Um,â you stutter.
âWhat?â he asks, eyebrow raised, still close to you.
âNo. No thanks.â Because it felt wrong.Â
He fully pulls away from you, and runs a hand through his hair, a deep sigh leaving him. âAlright.â
Youâre breathing faster now, surroundings feeling vague, like youâre in sweltering heat but the air only bites cold.
You stand up suddenly. âIâŠI want to go back.â
âGo back where?â
âTo the hotel. To my room.â You pause. âI mean, by myself. Not with you. We can share a ride, though.â
He stands up too, hands reaching for you, gripping the straps of his camera still hung around your neck and he pulls it off to place it back into the case. You feel like youâve lost favor with him somehow. âOkay. Sure.âÂ
âBut not with you.â You felt the need to clarify again.
âI get it, Canon. Itâs fine.â
â
âMaybe you just need to fuck him aggressively without mercy.â
âI beg your finest pardon?â
Youâre sitting in a booth inside this streetside KFC with Mina sitting across the table, waving a fry around in the air, and with Nobara next to you as she tries to open a packet of ketchup with her teeth. The hangout the three of you have been hyping up all week, just to be sat in the same place you always go to. You were about to take a bite out of your sandwich, but you set it back down on your tray.
Mina points the fry at you and shrugs. âIâm saying. Maybe youâre having such a hard time getting over Gojo because you got so close to fucking him in that bathroom, but you didnât, and now youâre in, like, this constant state of edging.â She bites down on the fry. âThe clit knows what the heart doesnât.â
âYour theories never fail to amaze me,â you mumble, sinking further into the booth.Â
âPerhaps itâll take the edge off.â Mina sucks through the straw of her Diet coke. Nobara finally succeeds in opening her packet of ketchup.
âI doubt it. Besides, I technically already gave him an invitation to,â you say, fingers rubbing at your eye with a swipe as you wince from the memory, âand he rejected me, so, still swimming in the self hatred from that one.â
Mina hums. âThereâs no way heâs not foaming at the mouth for it, y/n. Men never let a meal they were craving go unfinished,â she states, dramatically stabbing a chicken nugget with a fork.
âWhat kind of pigs do you guys associate yourselves with?â Nobara asks. Sheâs a lesbian, by the way.
âI raise another question. Why are we talking about this in a public restaurant?â you offer.
âListen, babes,â Mina continues, like your words fall on deaf ears because sheâs got some point to make, âitâll either poof. Make your feelings go away like the drop of a hat because you find out heâs a bad lay. Or itâll be so good that you realize youâre never getting over him and youâll be thinking of his dick instead of your husbandâs on your wedding night.â
âWeâre. In. A. Public. Restaurant.â
Mina steals a biscuit from your tray. âIf it ends up being the first outcome, then the whole thing was my idea. If itâs the secondâŠthen just know that Nobara has steered you wrong.â
âWhy the hell do you have to drag me into this?â Nobara asks.
Youâre about to take a bite from your sandwich again when youâre interrupted by the buzzing of your phone in your purse. You pull it out and glance at the caller ID, then let out a sigh.
âSorry, I have to take this,â you mumble, slipping out of the booth and towards the restaurantâs exit, pushing the tense door open with a gust of fresh air brushed through you.
âHello?â Itâs the car repair man. âReally? I thought you said it was fixed.â Apparently something else came up. âOkayâŠhow much longer will it be in repair?â Much longer than you had thought. âAnd how much will it cost?â Much more expensive than you had thought. âI donât know what to say. I mean, really, I feel as though every time Iâm on the line with you all, I have to wait longer to get my car back, and the bill just racks up higher.â Theyâre trying their best. âI know. Is it necessary to fix in order to drive, though?â State laws require it. âOkayâŠthanks for the update.â And then you hang up without another word, and with all the frustration in the world.
You head back inside and grumble about your car woes to Mina and Nobara, who try their best to respond with interest.
âWhy canât your insurance cover it?â Mina asks.
âApparently they canât claim itâs because of those rocks I drove over,â you sigh, âsince it looks like itâs been a problem for longer than that.â
âCan you afford it?â Nobara asks.
âNot really,â you say. âIâll just have to postpone having my car for a bit.â
You sigh with a glance out the window of this fine dining establishment, into the blue skies just beyond, head drowning out the voices of Mina and Nobara as they continue to grill you about all sorts of questions that you donât have the energy to answer right now. You had another student loan payment to make once you got home today, and just the thought of it makes your heart drop a little. And you realize you just canât afford to be picky about your financial situation anymore.
â
âThanks for helping me out with this,â you say, footsteps over familiar grassy hills as you head towards the UTokyoâs practice field, your digital Canon EOS hanging from your neck.Â
âSure,â Kai says as he keeps pace next to you, âwhy the sudden mission, though?â
Youâre gazing off straight ahead, a nervous pit in your stomach since itâs been a while since youâve walked across this landscape towards the field.Â
âI just feel like I need to diversify my income somehow,â you sigh, the buzzwords leaving a bitter taste in your mouth as you say them but it was the reality of your situation, âto make ends meet. When you mentioned freelance work during our conversation last week, it made me think itâs time for me to pick that up too.â
Kai hums. âYeah, itâs a good plan. Iâll try to show you what I know.â
Once youâve made it to the top of that hill, the one that oversees the field, your eyes instantly scan the field for familiar silhouettes, and your breath catches in your throat when you spot Gojo passively kicking a ball back and forth between one of his teammates for warm-ups.
Itâs the second time youâve seen him since that argument the two of you had in the hotel lobby, the first being at the post-game conference in which you did everything in your power to swiftly avoid him, and you plan on keeping that up. Thereâs also an urge to run away, but youâre starting to realize thatâs not much of an option anymore.
âHonestly, you donât really need to worry too much about shutter speed with freelance like you do for shooting sports,â Kai is mumbling next to you as he messes with the settings on his camera, the two of you making your way down the hill towards the field, and youâre not really listening because your eyes are on Gojo, whoâs yelling something across the field to his teammates with a look of concentration on his face.
âUh huh, I see,â you say. You see Kai glance at you in his periphery.
âYou again!â you hear a familiar harsh voice call out, and you turn on your heel to face Coach Yaga whoâs standing a few feet away in his custom UTokyo tracksuit with his arms crossed against his chest. âWhy are you on my field?â
You hold your breath for a second. âHi, Coach Yaga, so sorry, but Iâm just here to take some more photos.â
He lets out one of his hmphs, unrelenting. âYouâre a distraction. Get off my field.â
âD-Distraction?â
âCoach!â Suddenly, Getoâs in your line of sight as he emerges with a light jog up to your side. âYou should really be nicer to our photographers, they give us a lot of publicity for our games. And publicity means funding.â
Coach Yaga narrows his eyes. âI need all my players focused right now. Even during practice.â He gives you a disapproving glance and youâre still confused, but also weirdly angered.
âExcuse me, Coach Yaga, but last time I checked, this field is technically open for all students. And Iâm a student,â you say to him, crossing your arms across your chest now. âSo, I can be here if I want.â
You have no idea if thatâs true at all, but sometimes youâve just gotta fake it âtil you make it.
Coach Yaga grumbles something and then waves his hands in the air. âFine! Iâve no bandwidth to argue about this anymore! Just donât distract my players.â
Youâre shocked that it worked, and Geto nudges you with an elbow to correct your expression so that Coach Yaga doesnât catch on to the bullshit you just spewed.Â
âAre you here to take some photos?â Geto asks, facing you. Heâs got his hands on his hips, breathing slightly fast, some of his hair falling onto his forehead.Â
âYeah, I am, just for practice though. Iâm here withââ you glance at Kai, whoâs standing with his fists shoved into his pockets, âKai. Heâs also with the newsletter.â
Thereâs a moment where Geto studies the two of you for a second before speaking. âI know,â he says, extending his hand out for Kai to shake, which he does, âI think Iâve seen you around. Not sure if weâve formally met, but itâs nice to meet you.â
âYeah, likewise.â Kaiâs hand is then shoved back into his pocket.
You feel awkward suddenly, and then quickly say something to Geto about how he should probably get back to practice, which he agrees to, and then youâre standing at the chalk sideline with Kai as he shows you the ins and outs about digital photography.
âHave you tried shooting in burst mode?â he asks, switching the feature on your camera and then handing it back to you. You sling the strap around your neck.
âHmâŠâ you start, pointing your camera across the expanse of the field to multiple areas. The trees off into the distance, the goal posts, Coach Yagaâs yapping Pomeranian. âNot reallyâŠâ The grass beneath your feet, the sky above your head, and then blurrily focused before settling on Gojo who stood in the distance straight ahead.
You see through your viewfinder that heâs caught sight of you too, a look of surprise on his face seen only by the level of zoom, and you glance up from the screen to make eye contact with him in reality. Heâs fully staring at you, and you can barely see the way his expression relaxes from that one of athletic concentration to something wistful and strange that youâve had a hard time reading lately.
âCanon? Are you even listening?â
âHuh?â you snap out of it and look at Kai. âSorry. Could you repeat that?â You quickly glance toward Gojo again, and his line of sight points towards Kai now.
âI was asking if youâve tried panning before,â he says, reaching for your camera, pulling it towards him, but the strap around your neck means youâre pulled closer to him too.Â
âSatoru!â Coach Yaga yells in the distance. âEyes on the ball!âÂ
âJust got to set your camera to manual mode first,â Kai mutters, confusion in his voice. âWhere the fuck is it?â Heâs turning your camera in his hands, which only has you stumbling with another small step towards him, your chest pressed flush to his arm, and he looks down at you for a brief second with a smirk on his face.
You hear the sound of a ball being kicked on the field, followed by the shout of one of the players.
âAh, here, found it,â Kai says, handing your camera back to you, and just as youâre about to say thanks and you hold your camera up, youâre hit straight in the face by a flying object and fall backwards onto the grass with a painful thud.
What the fuck?
Where are you?
Who are you?
Okay, thatâs dramatic, it wasnât that bad.
Thereâs shouting in the distance as you hold your head with a groan, eyes shut tight with images of your life flashing behind your eyelids, and when you open your eyes again from where youâre sat up on the grass, youâre surrounded by soccer players.
Gojoâs suddenly in your line of sight, knelt down beside you and heâs holding your shoulders, trying to get you to look at him but youâre still blinking away the stars youâre seeing. âFuck, y/n, are you okay?â he asks, and you register the concern on his face.
âDude,â one of his teammates kicks the heel of his cleat, âwhere the fuck were you looking? It was clear as day I was tryna pass to you.â
Gojo grumbles something to him, his brow furrowed, and heâs lowering his head to try to make eye-level contact with you but youâre still holding your head with a wince.
âOh shit,â Kai comments, âsheâs bleeding.â
You pull your hand from your face to glance down at the wetness that you feel, and bright red color stains the tips of your fingers.
The next thing you register is Gojo picking you up off the hard grassy ground into his arms, and starts carrying you away down the field.
âW-What the hell are you doing?â you ask, his pacing across the grass is fast and you have to wrap your arms around his neck to keep from getting dizzy.
âIâm taking you to the hospital,â he says, voice strained in his throat, and youâve never seen him look so worried before.Â
âThe hospital?! Please donât, I donât have health insurance right now.â His face is so close and youâre distracted from the pain of your headache.
âYouâre bleeding on the face, Iâm taking you whether you like it or not,â he grumbles.
You dig your nails into his shoulder through the nylon of his shirt, and he hisses from the pain before stopping in his tracks. âI donât need to go to the hospital, Satoru, I just need a fucking bandaid.â
âYou could have a concussion.â
âA concussion?!â You kick your feet for him to let you down but his grip on you only tightens. âYouâre being ridiculous. Let me go, or Iâll bite you.â
He scoffs at that and continues walking forward. âYouâre gonna bite me? Thatâs the most threatening thing you could come up with?â
âIâm being so dead serious, Gojo Satoru. No hospital.â
He grumbles something under his breath at your use of his full government name, and then says âfineâ but heâs still walking down the grass until his cleats begin to tap on concrete, and then on what sounds like tile as he carries you into a building a few yards from the field.
He seats you on a cold counter, your hand gripping the faucet of a sink, and you finally take a comprehensive look at your surroundings. light blue, faint scent of chlorine in the air
âIs thisâŠa locker room? The men's locker room?â
He sighs, bending his knees a bit to look at your face closely. You flinch when his hand reaches out, and he pauses, but you relax slightly and then he rubs his thumb over your cheek. You feel the smear of a droplet of blood. âYes. I need running water.â He turns the faucet of the sink on to run his thumb under.
âFor what?â you ask. His thumb is running over your cheek again.
âTo take care of this cut.â He disappears behind a tile wall for a moment. You can hear metal clanking, probably of a locker opening and closing, and he re-emerges with a first-aid kit.
You slide your butt across the counter to the edge, about to hop off and make a run for it when he grabs your hips and puts you back into place. âDonât even think about it,â he grumbles. He leans forward, grips you strongly, and you see that heâs still breathing heavily from practice, strands of hair stuck to his forehead with sweat, and you can practically taste the salt on his neck.Â
You press your shin to the front of his thigh, desperate to put some space between the two of you. âI donât wanna be in here. Men are scary.â
âWell I canât take you into the womenâs locker room,â he says, ripping the packet of an antiseptic wipe open with his teeth, âIâd get registered as a sex offender.â
You attempt at an escape again, and heâs quick to get his hands on you to stop it.
âQuit manhandling me, or Iâll scream,â you threaten through gritted teeth, because youâre still mad at him. For everything.
âGo ahead,â he says, using his knee to spread your legs apart, then finds a place to stand between your thighs to get closer to you. âIâve got a lot of ways I could shut you up.â
You blink at him, breath catching in your throat, and the expression on his face tells you heâs not interested in dealing with your stubbornness anymore.
âJust hold still,â he grumbles, placing the packet down on your thigh and then stepping off to the side to wash his hands under the sink.
âWhat exactly happened?â you ask, watching him dry his hands off with a few paper towels. One moment, Kai was trying to explain good digital photography to you, and the next you were dizzy from being knocked back onto the ground.
âYou got hit by a soccer ball.â
âI know, but how?â You remember your camera hit your face from the impact too, and now youâre worried about it.
âIâŠwasnât paying attention when my teammate passed it,â he admits with a sigh, finding his place in front of you again, the knuckles of his clean hand brushing across your cheek, caressing. Your expression softens slightly. He uses a hand spread across the small of your back to push you forward to him, then he gently passes the wipe over your wound.
âOh okay so, you failed to protect me from a flying soccer ball.âÂ
He pulls his hand from you to read the lettering on the back of the packet. âIâm patching you up now, arenât I?â he says, annoyed. ââŠoh fuck, I was supposed to go in with water first.â
âSo glad to be in such good hands right now.âÂ
He gives you a pointed look, but you ignore it and turn your torso to see your reflection in the mirror for the first time. You had a small wound on your cheek, right over the bone, with some bleeding and itâs wider than it is deep. But when you look at Gojo again, whoâs putting some ointment onto a Q-tip now, the look of guilt and worry on his face makes you feel satisfied for some reason, and you wanted to make it worse.
âDoes it hurt?â he asks, brow furrowed, applying the cold gel to your cheek.
âMhm. A lot.â Not really, no.
âFuck. Iâm sorry,â he sighs, head dipping towards you slightly to get a better look, âcan you feel this?â
âAhh, yeah. Ouch. So much.â Barely.
His other hand is placed flat on the counter next to where youâre sitting, and you allow it when his thumb starts to run soothing circles over your hip.
âHmmâŠâ you start, wide eyes looking up at him as he seems to lean closer and closer to you with every word that leaves your lips, âI really wonder if itâll leave a scar.â
He looks tortured. His hand that was maneuvering the Q-tip in his hands drops to the counter now, and he brings his other one to your face, cupping your cheek. His eyes dart from the wound, thumb pressing at the plush of your cheek, and this time, it hurts a little so you wince. His expression is tense, some sort of inner turmoil you could read across his forehead, and then his jaw hardens.
âWho was that guy you were talking to earlier?â
You blink a few, then tilt your head slightly. You feel like youâre on a game show, where thereâs four options and only one right answer. New boytoy, gay best friend, fuck buddy, orâ âHeâs my coworker.â
âThatâs it?â
âMhm.â
âHas he tried anything funny with you?âÂ
You almost roll your eyes. âNo, dad, he hasnât.â
âWoah. Say that again but make it daddy.â
âHey just a quick question for you. Where do you get the audacity?â
His bent index finger finds a place under your chin, tilting your head up so youâre forced to look at him. âItâs your fault, really. I canât help it sometimes,â he says, voice lower now. Youâre squirming a little, wanting to push him away but his lips get close to your cheek, brushing near your wound, like he wants to make it all better somehow. âI really am sorry,â he whispers, near your ear. Thereâs a whimper you have to stifle in your throat. He pulls aways just enough to where he can look into your eyes. âA cutâŠâ he starts, thumb now passing over your bottom lip, âon your pretty face.â He sighs. You shouldnât, but when he prods, you tuck his thumb under your front teeth and your tongue presses slightly against the padded skin of it. He looks like heâs being driven to insanity, and his other hand has no shame at all in pulling you towards him, to seat you at the edge of the counter, and you miss the texture of his thumb on your tongue when he pulls it from your mouth. But itâs so he can dip his head down to kiss you instead.
Of course the sensation of his lips on yours only lasts for a second, because the universe really fucking hates (or loves?) you, so the loud clanking of a metal water bottle against tile interrupts with harsh reverberation throughout the locker room walls, and he pulls away from you when you jump at the sound.
You both turn your heads towards the origin, located at the curved end of the entryway hall, and one of Gojoâs teammates is standing there with his duffle bag slung around his neck and hanging heavily to his thigh, his water bottle clutched in his hand. He blinks at the two of you.
Oh. Itâs the one you kissed at that party a few weeks ago.
âWhatââŠWhy is there aââ his teammate starts, panicked, turning his head to double check the sign on the locker room wall as if heâs hallucinating, and when his eyes land on you again, they widen with recognition. His gaze shifts, and his chin tips down at the sight of Gojoâs irritated side eye from where he was still all up in your personal space. ââŠyou know what. Nevermind.â
His teammateâs eyes are on you again, and you give him a shy little wave, just a fluttering of your fingers in the air paired with a small smile, legs swinging back and forth under the counter. He lets out an amused scoff from the entryway, lifting his hand to return the gesture, some cheeky grin on his face as he then scratches the back of his head before turning on his heel to leave the locker room, out of sight. You let out a sigh, hand dropping to your lap, and you donât need to look at Gojo to tell that heâs staring at you with disbelief.
âWhat the fuck was thatââ
âYou,â you interrupt him, finger jabbing at the center of his chest, âhave seriously got a lot of fucking nerve,â you hop off the counter, âto not only allow a soccer ball to sock me in the face,â heâs taking a step back with every harsh jab of your finger, âbut to also hold me hostage in a mensâ locker room,â his back is pressed up against cold tile wall now while he just looks down at you with wide eyes and something akin to fear, âand then, oh my god, the audacity to kiss me?â
âIââ
âI donât wanna hear it!â you yell, which shuts him up. âYou really are just a fucking player.â
Heâs stiff, not wanting to catch a punishment from you right now.
âBut it doesnât matter,â you grumble, still drilling your finger into his ribcage with the intent to cause pain. You didnât need to be this close, but his body is warm, probably due to the blood pumping from practice, and it feels nice to be pressed up against. âBecause I donât have feelings for you anymore, so just fucking get over yourself.â It was a lie if youâve ever told one, but you wanted to believe it so much that it could come off as the truth.
His eyes narrow down at you, eyebrows flattening. âYou donât have feelings for me anymore?â
âNo, I donât.â
âI donât believe you.â
You roll your eyes. âWhy? Because you want me to keep suffering?â
He grabs your hips, then makes a motion that is evident of his desire to pull you flush to him, but he stops himself. Thereâs a moment where he just takes a few deep breaths and looks at you with a hardened expression, then a split second where his eyes fall to that little cut on your cheek, and every single feature of his face softens, and then he lets you go.
You take a small step back, breathing heavily of your own, and you feel the ghost sensation of his fingertips wrapped around your hips. It makes you feel dizzy, and your thoughts are a mess.Â
He sighs. âSorry. For the soccer ball, and this locker room. But Iâm not really sorry for kissing you, and if that makes me a jerk, then so be it.â
Your heart is beating fast. âYou are a jerk, Satoru,â you say. He doesnât like you, he doesnât want you. A mantra played over and over in your head that youâve started to hear it at night. âA real fucking jerk.â And you leave him standing there in a way that feels like the hundredth time.
â

2:42pm you: i donât have thousands of yen laying around unfortunately. my car bill has sucked me dry
2:44pm kaito (work): well let me check with him. maybe he can hook you up with a good deal on a used one
2:45pm kaito (work): i got a 50% off on one of my canon cameras i bought from him a few years back. maybe heâs still got some like that
2:46pm you: yes could you check with him please? thanks so much, really
2:48pm kaito (work): sure. although i think the guy that kicked the ball to your face should be paying for your camera replacement
2:51pm you: they were just practicing. itâs their field
2:56pm kaito (work): alright. btw, you free tonight?
You blink at your phone screen from where you were sprawled across your bed. Before you have a chance to type out a response, your phone lights up with a phone call from kaito (work). You accept the call.
âOh, hi,â you say.
âHey, are you free tonight?â
âOh uhh, I was just about to check my schedule.â You shake your head at your inability to come up with an excuse on the spot.
âOkay,â he says on the other line. You hear the sounds of cars honking in the distance. âWell let me know. I just left my camera guyâs shop, and he was telling me about how one of his friends does visuals for a short-film director, and that the director is looking for an assistant.â Kai grumbles something about someone he walked past being rude. âI think the directorâs agency is Verve Films, so.â
You sit up in bed, eyes wide at the mention of the name. âOh, oh wow. Thatâs insane.â
âYup,â he says, âanyways, apparently the director is busy as fuck, so he left the hiring process up to my camera guyâs friend. I told him I knew someone that might be interested. Are you?â
You take a deep breath in and out. âYeah, I am. Most of my experience on my resume lines up with short-film, so Iâd be able toââ
âAlright great,â he interrupts, âso we can hold the interview tonight.â
âWe?â you ask.
âWell yeah, me, my camera guy, the hiring guy. Maybe go for drinks or something.â
Your brow furrows. âThat hardly sounds like an interview.â
Kai sighs. âWell, itâs not an interview for a desk job or something. Itâs more of likeâwell, like building connections. I know you know all about that, since Utahime got you the newsletter job.â
Well, yes. She put a word in for you, which helped get the interview, but you still went against qualified applicants. âI guess.â
âItâll be like that. Most opportunities youâll get if you still want to pursue filmmaking are going to be like that,â he tells you, âif it feels informal, it means youâre doing it right. You might not think so now because youâre still in school, where they practically serve opportunities to students on platters, but itâs going to be different in the real world.â
You lay your head back onto the pillow, feeling like youâre receiving a lecture you didnât ask for, and your first instinct is to pretend that you know better than he does. But when you think about all the stress recently, all of the not knowing, and the unsure, you question if you should start leaning into the advice of the people around you, and start to accept this career path for what itâs known to be. Unruly, unconventional, and a lot of times, unfair.Â
âI see. Well, can I think about it? Tonight is too soon, Iâd need time to research the director, put a portfolio together, and also do some interview prep,â you say, pulling your phone from your ear to glance at the time.
âWell, tonightâs the only night that works since their teamâs shooting abroad for the weekend and they leave tomorrow morning,â he says.
You purse your lips together.
âBut also,â Kai says, âitâs the nice thing to do, yâknow, since my camera guy is taking the time to look at your camera for free, you could at least help his friend out. By the way, he just texted me, he does have some used Canons available at discount.â
You close your eyes for a second, just trying to process this conversation right now. Kai was speaking too fast, hardly enough time for you to even think.
âSo do you want to do the interview tonight?â
âYes, sure. Okay. Justâ just send me the details. Iâll be there,â you say.
âAlright cool, will do.âÂ
You say bye, and then he hangs up.
A few hours pass by, where you spend some time putting together a flash drive of a couple of your best short films youâve worked on in the past with other directors, as well as a portfolio of some recently developed film photography. The last thing to do was grab your emergency stash of print outs of your resume, and then you stuff it all into a folder before glancing at the mirror to take in your reflection. It felt extremely weird to show up to a job interview in something as casual as what you were wearing right now, but Kai insisted to not wear anything business. But at least you opted for jeans that donât have any DIY holes in them.
Your face is glued to the navigation on your phone screen the second you get out of the taxi, and you walk down the bustling nightlife streets of Tokyo to get to this bar that Kai sent you the address of. But just as youâre about to turn the corner to your destination down the bar strip, you bump into someoneâs chest due to lack of paying any proper attention.
âAhâ Iâm so sorry,â you say, your grip on your phone tightening when you realize it was about to get knocked out of your hand, and then you look up to see a familiar face.
âOh!â Geto exclaims from where heâs standing right in front of you, âYouâre everywhere, y/n. What are you doing here?â
You open your mouth to speak, hesitate for a second, and then continue. âIâm here toâŠget drinks with some of my friends.â
He gives you a smile. âThatâs nice. I am too.â He points over his shoulder to behind him. âNanami got into his MBA program earlier this week, so, Satoru, Choso and I are buying him a few rounds. Or possibly a million. The plan is to incapacitate him as punishment for giving up on playing in the national league with us.â
You humor him with a laugh. âThatâs sweet. Or not? Well anyway, tell him I said congrats.â Your heart starts to beat a little faster, because from the direction Geto came from, it meant Gojo was likely just around the corner somewhere. âWhere are you heading to now?â
âWeâre bar hopping, and I think I forgot my phone at the last one we went to over there,â he says, pointing across the street. âSo Iâm going to go look for it.âÂ
âOh alright,â you say. âGood luck with that. Iâm going to go find my, uh, my friends.â
Geto tilts his head at you and had a slightly more serious expression on his face, glancing at the folder in your hands. âThanks. And stay safe.âÂ
You nod at him and then walk past him to round the corner onto the street that had groups of people loitering in front of restaurants, bars and all sorts of establishments as they wait in the cold to get inside or be seated. You recognize the name on one of the signs hanging as the one Kai sent you in his message, and when youâre a few feet away from it, you spot Kai. Heâs wearing his typical street photographer wear, with a red flannel over a gray shirt and pants that are possibly a size too big for him, but thatâs likely the style he was going for. Heâs standing with two other people.
âHey,â you greet Kai first, who has a pleasant look on his expression before he greets you back and gestures to the two people he was with.
âYo, this is Junichi, my camera guy,â he says. âDonât bother shaking his hand, heâs a germaphobe. Gotta keep âem clean for the electronics.â
âOh,â you say. Junichi is a big man, broad shoulders and thick muscles. His neck is almost as thick as his bicep, and he has no hair on his head. His arms are crossed. âItâs nice to meet you. Thank you for taking a look at my camera.â
He nods at you in acknowledgment. âSure thing. Pretty Boy here says you want to buy one of my used Canons. I donât refurbish them, so youâd better know how.â
Kai sighs, nudging Junichi a little with a fist. âRelax, dude, we can talk about that later. Also, stop calling me that.â
Your eyes flicker to the right, where another man stood, who you assume was Junichiâs friend and this Verve Films directorâs visual effects specialist. Heâs similar in stature to Kai, with that casual artist look, and he has a scuffle of facial hair littering his jaw in less of an intentional fashion but rather a five-o-clock shadow fashion. You vaguely register the scent of weed, familiar to the one that lingers in the photo lab on campus after class hours. He reaches his hand out to you first.
âHi, Iâm Ren. I work in visual effects for director Akira Ko at Verve.â
Your eyes widen as you shake his hand. âThatâs amazing. Iâve studied a lot of his contemporary works, Iâd love to learn more about his process.â
Ren lets a fast exhale out through his nose. âYeah, youâll learn a lot under him.â He pauses to shove his hands into the pockets of his jacket. âMost of his assistants always do.â
âWeâve been waiting for too damn long,â Kai interjects before you could ask any questions about the assistant position, and he glances at his watch, âand thereâs still a lot of people ahead of us.â
You glance around to the small groups of people gathered in front of this bar on a lively Friday night, eyes jumping from one area to the next, until a familiar silhouette catches your eye.
You see Gojo standing with Nanami and Choso a few strides away, near the lamppost. Heâs mostly turned away from you, Nanami nudging his arm annoyed at something he said, and the sound of his laughter in the air makes your heart feel like itâs at stray. Like that was where you were supposed to be right now, not here.
You watch him from the distance as he sighs, shrugging his shoulders up and down slightly before crossing his arms when Choso gestures towards the entrance of the bar, and so he looks in that direction too. Heâs frowning slightly and he brushes some of the hair fallen over his forehead away from his eyes, in that boyish way that makes your heart skip a beat, and you know heâs just doing it to see a little bit better, but it makes you want to cry.Â
Geto walks up to them and rejoins their little circle, and holds his phone up in the air, and then thereâs the melody of their voices bouncing off one anotherâs again. Geto rests his elbow up onto Gojoâs shoulder, leaning in a bit closer to tell him something, and when Gojo hears it, you see his entire body tense before his wide eyes are searching his surroundings, until those eyes land on you.
Your breath catches, and you hold his eye contact for only a moment before you look away, because it almost felt like too much to bear.
âWhatâs that folder in your hand?â Ren asks you, and you turn completely to face him so you canât see Gojo in your periphery at all anymore.
âI just brought some of my work, for yourâer, I guess Mr. Koâsâreference if heâd like to see it after todayâsâŠinterview,â you say. âThereâs a flashdrive, too.â
Ren has an amused look on his face and he shoves Kaiâs shoulder with his palm. âDude, you didnât tell her?â
Kai shakes his head. âTell her what?â
âOhh, I see how it is,â Ren muses.
âWhat?â Kai asks, starting to sound annoyed.
Ren tips his chin up slightly to study Kaiâs face, and then his look of amusement dissipates into one of understanding. âNothing.â
âTell me what?â you prod.
âJust that you didnât really need to bring all of that with you,â he says. âSorry for the trouble.â
You shake your head. âItâs fine, but if you could still give it to himââ
âIâm surprised Kai suggested someone when I asked if he knew anyone,â Junichi jumps in, âIâm used to him grumbling on and on about how shit the work is in filmmaking. Wouldâve thought heâd convinced you to look the other way by now.â
You blink at the gruff man, then look at Kai, and heâs just staring down at the dirt of his shoes. âWell, we had a conversation about it. But Iâm pretty set on what I want to do,â you say.
Kai lets out a scoff. âYeah, I donât really know how else to warn you about the shit show youâre in for, but if you want to be in debt to grad school for the next couple decades of your life, then itâs up to you.â
âHey, jackass, try to be a bit nicer,â Ren speaks up. âSheâs got some goals. Big fuckinâ deal.â He turns to you. âAlthough, heâs got a point sweetheart, schoolâs not going to get you anywhere in this industry.â
You frown. âA lot of directors I look up to went through graduate schooling. Most, I would say. I donât understand where this rhetoric is coming from.â
âItâs coming from real people with real experience,â Ren says, and you dislike the way he takes a step closer to you to reiterate his point, âhonestly, you should save yourself some time and give up on applying. Itâs not worth it.â
âIâve already put my application together,â you say, brow furrowing slightly, âIâve asked professors for my references, spent the past four years working on my profileââÂ
âBut working under a director, I mean really getting to work under one, beats all of that. Which is why youâre here, right?â Ren asks, but itâs not curious, itâs testing.
You feel a sheen of sweat build at your forehead, even in this cold, and you clench your hand into a fist once, twice, thrice. Youâre breathing fast, and the three sets of eyes that are staring so scrutinizingly into your soul right now have you faltering, like if they took another step forward, tried to intrude what you thought you knew one more time, youâd fall backwards over the cliff.
Suddenly, a hand wraps around your upper arm, and when you turn your head to the left, you see Gojo standing there.
âHey,â he says to you, sparing one single sidewards glare towards Kai, who immediately averts the eye contact, before Gojoâs eyes are on you again, âcan I talk to you for a second?â
You look at the three men in your circle, who suddenly adopt skittish body postures, and Gojo doesnât really wait longer than a few seconds before heâs pulling you away from them over towards the edge of the curb towards the street.
âWhat?â you ask once he lets go of your arm.
âWhat are you doing here with those guys?â he asks.
âIâmââŠwhy does it matter to you?â you ask.
âIt matters to me because of the fucking absurd conversation I just overheard,â he says, ânow answer me.â
His tone annoys you, and you cross your arms. âAre you eavesdropping?â
âIâm going to ask you one more time,â he says, taking a step forward to you, âwho are those guys, and why are you here with them?â
You blink at him, furrowed brows relaxing slightly as you drop your crossed arms to your side, and you stare straight ahead at the blankness of the white t-shirt heâs wearing, as your mind runs blank to his question. Why were you here with them? Was it because you had no other plans? Was it because the opportunity sounded too good to be true, and you just had to see for yourself? Was it because youâve been unable to sleep at night from all the stress, the financial worries, the rejection, and you just want to finally feel like youâve done one good thing for yourself? To feel like youâre at least making one step in the right direction, no matter the cost?
âIâm here for a job interview,â you say to him. Your tone is flat, and you feel numb.
âA job interview?â he asks, with just about as much incredulity you wouldâve expected to hear from him at that answer, âAt a bar? How does that make any sense?â
âItâŠâ you start, âsounded fine.â
âIt sounds shady as fuck.â
âThis doesnât concern you, okay? IâmââŠIâm just trying to make my goals work for me, Satoru, and I really donât expect you to understand.â
âWhy wouldnât I understand?â he asks. Thereâs confusion in his voice, and maybe even a little bit of hurt.
âBecause you canât even understand how unfair and painful it is for me that you keepââ you have to purse your lips together briefly to fight back the knot in your throat, ââŠthat you keep interfering with my life everywhere I go.â
His expression softens, and he silently stands in front of you for a moment. His eyes dart across your face, and then he reaches out to grab your hand. âListen, if you still want to get drinks tonight, then just get drinks with us. But donât hang out with those guys. Theyâre bad news, especially the dude with the flannel, and I donât think youâre in a good place right now to see that.â
Your eyes see white fury at that, and you all but snap. Because the irony of this whole situation, is that youâre not in a good place right now because of him. Because of all the pain that heâs put you through, for promising to stay away but then always being near, for saying he doesnât want you but then acting like he does.Â
âYou know what I think, Satoru?â you ask through gritted teeth, yanking your hand from his grasp.
Heâs looking at you, studying. âWhat?â
You take a step forward, threateningly, and he takes a step back so that he steps off the curb and onto the road, and youâre at eye-level with him now. âI think that youâre jealous,â you say, eyes glaring daggers into his.
He blinks at you, almost dumbfounded for a moment before he says âwhat?â
âYouâre just fucking jealous that I seem to be moving on after you rejected me, because for some weird reason, you think itâs okay to not want me, and yet not want me to be with anyone else,â you say, practically hissing the words. âYou donât like seeing me with any guys other than you? You donât want to believe me when I say that Iâm over you? Youâre not sorry for kissing me? Even after knowing,â you take a pause to breathe, because you feel like you canât, âeven after knowing that I like you,â eyes blinking fast because you donât want him to see you cry right now, âyou know that I like you so fucking much, and that itâs hurtful, and that itâs wrongâ and even after all of that, you act the same, and still wonât promise me any commitment of your own.â
Heâs looking at you with an expression you canât read, but youâve lost all interest in trying to understand it anymore.
âYou donât want me hanging out with them?â you repeat after him, âIâm not listening to that. Because itâs possessive. And itâs wrong.â
At the mention of them, Gojo clenches his jaw. âThat has nothing to do with you and me, right now. What theyâre trying to convince you of doesnât make any sense, and it wonât help you achieve your dreams either, y/n.â
âYou donât know anything about my dreams, Satoru,â you say, just to hurt him. But you think about the sincere expression on his face the first time you met him when you told him that you wanted his help with your assignment. You think about the playful nudge of his elbow that night he stayed with you on the curb, and told you that you just had to try to put yourself out there, because you couldnât accomplish anything without facing your fears. You think about how heâs always the first to like every single one of the slideshows you post of your pictures on Instagram. You think about the adoration in his eyes, reflected off the moonlight through the hotel window, when you told him about a little cottage on the countryside, one youâve always wanted, and those eyes told you that he was really rooting for you. âYou donât know. Because youââ thereâs an echo of words in your head. Someone elseâs words, not yours, âBecause youâre a college athlete. Andââ you let out an exhale, âand you donât pay tuition.â
His brow furrows. Thereâs a beat of silence as his confusion settles in. âWhat?â
âYou were born blessed with talent, and youâre popular, and people adore you, and you donât have to worry about internships, or jumping from job to job just to make something of yourself,â you say, picturing your life in your head along with all the strife, âor about all of the sinking debt, and the worry, and theâ and the car repair bills,â you say, almost with a scoff, eyes sheening with tears, like youâre losing your mind, âall of the fucking car repair bills.â Your chest is heaving as you shake your head. âBecause youâre set for life as long as you kick a fucking ball.âÂ
His lips purse together, like he can tell thereâs more on your tongue to say, more hurtful words, and he wants to hear you say them. And so you do.
âYouâve never had to suffer or worry about a single thing in your life. So donât pretend like you understand what Iâm trying to do here tonight,â you say, inflection signing off on the end, to tell him that youâre done.Â
He stands in front of you, practically motionless except for the slow movement of his chest as he breathes. His expression, tense and hurt, softens slowly, and you see him digging his nails into the skin of his palms through fidgeting clenched fists at his sides. And then he relaxes them, too.
âDoes that make you feel better?â he asks.
His question confuses you, and for some reason, regret washes over you. âWhat?â
âDoes thinking of me that wayââŠdoes it make you feel better about all of this? Between us?â
Youâre breathing fast, eyebrows pinching upwards to look at him, and the defeated expression on his face makes your heart ache. Heâs waiting for an answer, and so you give him one. âYes.â
He glances down at the ground for a moment, then at your collarbone, before meeting your gaze again. âIâm sorry. For everything. And Iââ the words catch in his throat briefly, âIâll try to leave you alone tonight.â
His use of the word try doesnât escape you, but you give him a furtive nod, and he studies your face for a few moments before he steps back up onto the curb and walks past you. You watch him walk all the way, no longer with that confidence or conviction youâre so used to seeing in him, as he steps back into his circle, to Getoâs side. Geto gives a small glance over his shoulder to look at you with discerning eyes before looking at Gojo again, and then heâs turned away from you.Â
Heavy feet drag you back to Kai, Ren, and Junichi, and you feel feverish. They mention something about the table being ready, and you nod. The bar is rustic, with more tables than barspace, and the four of you are seated and then presented with a small food menu. Youâre seated next to Kai, Ren is right across from you, and Junichi is to his right. You watch a waitress usher Nanami, Choso, Geto and Gojo to one of the tables as well, two away from yours, and you forcefully blur your vision so you donât have to catch sight of the expression on Gojoâs face.
âSo,â Ren speaks up as his eyes peruse the food menu and Junichi waves the waitress over to order a round of sake, âtell me more about your experience, sweetheart.â
You blink at him, eyes feeling heavy, heart feeling heavy. âIâd prefer it if you called me by my name.â
Ren lets out a coo, and you briefly glance at Kai whoâs shaking his head with a sigh. âMy bad, y/n. Your experience?â
Your hands play with the folder sitting in your lap. âI started writing screenplays for small-scale directors when I was a freshman, and was greenlit on a couple into my sophomore year. One of the films I worked on, I had directing credits for, and it was nominated for best screenplay at Etoile Film Festival the year following.â
Ren swallows slightly, shifting in his chair and pushing his shoulders back, like heâs trying to establish himself now. Kai is clenching a fist on the surface of the table.
Ren clears his throat before speaking again. âWow, okay, so youâve actually got some serious shit going on.â His voice is a faux octave deeper. âWhat do you know about being a good assistant? Ever worked in customer service? Secretary?â
âOh, I mean I have worked in customer service, but I wasnât done sharing about my experienceââ you try to say but Junichi cuts you off.
âFirst roundâs on me,â he declares, âfor bringing her out here.â He tips his chin to you and then sends Kai a glance.
A waitress brings by a bottle of sake, and Junichi begins pouring drinks into the glasses, then slides them across the table. Kai gives Ren a pointed look.Â
âDonât get too wasted,â Kai says to him as he brings his glass to his lips, âyou start running that mouth of yours a little too much when you do.â
Ren grins at him and immediately knocks down the glass Junichi barely finished pouring from him in one go, and the gruff man beside him is grumbling. âWhatever you say.â
Something had been bothering you since you came here. âWait,â you say, pointing between Kai and Ren, âdo you two know each other already? Because,â you turn to look at Kai, âon the phone earlier, you sounded like you didnât.â
Kaiâs eyebrows raise in surprise, as though heâs discovered you have some skill for foresight. You glance at Ren, and he gives Kai a puzzled look.
âUh, yeah. Iâve known Kai for years,â he says, âwe go way back. We went to highschool together.â
Kai shifts a little in his chair. âSorry. Probably forgot to mention it.â
You glance down at the glass of sake in front of you, and the way it twinkles under the lighting of the bar. You slowly bring it to your mouth, taking a small sip, and the way it coats your tongue is less than pleasing.Â
âCan you tell me more about the assistant position?â you ask Ren, whoâs emptied out the bottle of sake and waving someone over to order more. He already has a slightly flush to his face.
âYeah, yeah, will do,â he says, âbut first, let me tell you about what I do in visuals.â
Another round of sake is dropped by, and then another, followed by another, as Ren continues to ramble on and on about what he does for work, and how itâs entirely integral to the final piece of the film, although youâve never really had a terrible level of appreciation for visual effects in short-film craft, since itâs hardly much work. But you wouldnât say that, you just continue to nurse your one glass of sake as the three men surrounding you knock back more and more, and thereâs slurs to their speeches now.
âSooo, Iâm so sorry, sweetheartâI mean y/n, for cuttinâ you off earlier,â he says, âbut what was that experience you wanted to talk to me about?â Ren asks from across the table, and his eyes are all traveling over you.
âIâŠâ you start, âwell, I started to work with one of my professors last year, sheâs a two-time Cannes Film Festival winner, and she let me under her wing for one of her projects last year.â
âWho is she? Oh wait, nevermind, probably wouldnât have heard of her anyways,â Ren says, but when you fail to laugh, he waves his hand in the air. âJoking, joking. Whatâs her name?â
âNaoko. Naoko Ogigami.â
âOh shit. I have heard of her,â Ren says, followed by a shallow hiccup. Junichi shrugs his shoulders, and when you look at Kai, heâs nodding slowly and toying with the rim of his glass with a finger.
âYes. Well, anywaysââ you start up again, before Kai sets his glass of sake down particularly loud.
âThis is all bullshit. Really. I told you, filmmaking is a waste of time. Just focus on your photography, and your freelance or whatnot,â Kai says, grit to his jaw, face looking red with possibly something other than just a tipsiness.Â
Ren lets out a laugh. âFuckinâ Kai. What a pessimist. Donât listen to him, sweetheart,â he says, slurred, and you furrow your brow at him with a glare, âsorry. Donât listen to him. Trust me, youâll learn a lot under Mr. Ko. Heâs a suuuper nice guy.â
âWhatâs the compensation?â you ask. Itâs a brazen question, one youâd never ask so soon in a formal interview process, but this table was hardly anything formal.
âReal good. Mmm I think likeâŠ5200 yen an hour, and then also, you get your foot in the door.â
âOh,â you sit up a little in your chair. It was higher than most entry-level anything for undergraduates or even new grads.Â
âYeah, yeah, yeah,â he drawls when he sees youâre more interested. âGood stuff. Kai used to pick these kinds of jobs up, too, back in his college days. I remember. Although, heâs hardly Mr. Koâs type, so I doubt heâd be any good for this one.â
Your head snaps to Ren again at his words, face tensing.Â
âTell her about what a job like thisâhicâentails,â Ren says as he extends his glass out for Junichi to pour him another.
Kai glances at Ren once, and you watch him grind his teeth for a moment, and then thereâs a hint of a smirk on his face.
âOh. Yâknow, clerical work. Stuff like printing scripts out,â Kai starts, Junichi filling up his glass and then he raises it into the air to watch the liquid swish around, âgrabbing him coffee. Making sure his trailer is stocked.â
âBlowing him in said trailer,â Ren says. Itâs something quiet, under his breath with a small laugh, where you could barely hear it across the table. But you heard it nonetheless. And your heart sinks to the core of the earth.
âExcuse me?â you say. The benefit of doubt sitting on your shoulder, watching in disbelief as well.
âHeâs joking,â Kai says, quickly, ârunninâ his mouth.â
âOh fuck off, Kai,â Ren says, throwing his hands up in the air, âdonât act like thatâs not why you brought her here.â
Your head slowly turns to Kai, who canât meet your gaze. Your eyes flicker to Junichi, who looks amused.Â
Ren leans over the table, elbows resting on top, to look you straight in the eyes. Heâs got a sleazy smile, and you can smell the alcohol on his breath, and he dips his tone down low enough to where you can hardly hear it over the sounds surrounding you in the bar. âThatâs how youâll make it in this industry, sweetheart. Whether you like it or not, youâll be working under those directors until you make it.â
You stand up so fast that your chair falls behind you, hand raised in the air, and you swiftly slap the man across from you so hard across the cheek that it leaves his skin even more red than the flush from before, and your palm is stinging.Â
Thereâs gasps all around the bar, hushed voices, eyes on you, but you donât care. Thereâs not a single thing in the world you care more about right now than the anger swelled in your chest.
Ren holds his cheek, surprised, blinking like a pathetic animal. He almost looks like heâs about to cry, and you let out a scoff at the sight.
You turn to face Kai, whose eyes are wide and heâs staring up at you. Your fists are clenched at your side.
âIs this why you brought me here tonight?â you ask. Your voice is trembling, anxiety at the wake, the white anger spotting your vision. But thereâs also pain. So much pain, and youâre just so fed up with all of it. âBecause your belittling, condescending words werenât enough to tear my hopes apart, so you had to humiliate me in front of your friends instead?â
Kai holds his hand up. âWoah, Canon, relax. He was just jokingââŠâ Kai glances at Ren, whoâs still holding his cheek and biting down on his lip, and then his gaze hardens. âYâknow what? Itâs about fucking time you get this wake-up call, y/n. Iâve been trying to do the nice thing to steer you in the right direction, and the least you couldââ
âSteer me in the right fucking direction?!â youâre yelling now, registering the way your voice echoes in the bar. âYou know what I think this is all about, Kai?â You grit your teeth, âYouâre a sick, stupid, sexist fuck who didnât have the balls to go after what he wanted. So miserably pathetic that youâve got no other fucking business than to pull people down to your level.â
Kai pinches his eyebrows together, hand on the table clenching into a fist.Â
You lean down closer, an exasperated scoff leaving your lips. âWhy donât you go be his assistant instead? Since Iâm sure youâre good at taking it up the ass.â
Kaiâs eyes twitch, âyou fuckingââ
You grab his glass off the table and throw the alcohol into his face, eliciting another round of noises around the bar, and his mouth falls agape in shock before he gets up out of his chair, hand reaching out to grab for you. You close your eyes shut with a flinch to expect pain. Any sort of pain. But you donât feel anything at all.
When you open your eyes, you see Gojo standing to your left, veins of his arm tense with the tight grip he has on Kaiâs forearm, and you can see heâs practically shaking with rage. He steps in front of you, guarding, and you canât see the expression on his face, but the fear in Kaiâs eyes is enough to say it all.
âThatâs enough,â he says, the clench of his jaw evident through the strain in his voice, âtry to put your hands on her again, and Iâll split your fucking face in half.â
You can see Kaiâs breathing pick up from where youâre peering over Gojoâs shoulder, and then Gojo shoves him backwards right as Choso kicks the fallen chair to his feet so he trips over it backwards then hits the ground with a loud and indignant thud.
Gojoâs hovering over Kai, his hands shoved in his pockets as he glares down at him, while Geto and Nanami put space between you and the other two men at your table. You feel a searing flush to your cheeks. Youâre breathing fast, the peering eyes all around you are scrutinizing, looking at you with surprise, confusion, shock, and pity. Your mind is racing, and you wonder what your parents would think of all this. What your friends would think of all of this. What the people who support you would think of the fucked up situation youâve found yourself in, and the humiliation courses so deep through your veins that you just want to run away and hide. The ground could swallow you whole right now, and it still wouldnât be enough.
You take one step back, then another, before you turn on your heel to rush out the door into the night, and you barely register that itâs raining. You can feel your heart thumping fast in your chest and in your head, that familiar knot in your throat twisting tight as you walk fast down the street and ignore Gojoâs call of your name from behind you.
You donât want to see anyone right now. You donât want to be seen by anyone right now. Especially Gojo, of all people, because he was right about everything, and the fact that you had shut him down about it, and the way that you had shut him down about it makes your head numb and your breathing pick up fast.
ây/n,â you hear him call out from behind you, his pace is getting faster and so youâre resorting to longer strides as well, puddles of water splashing under your feet with every step, âjust waitââ
âIâm seriously,â you start, and the tears begin to fall, âIâm seriously so, so, so, so, so fucking embarassed right now,â you gasp out the words with no air left in your lungs to breathe as you continue to run away from him, âso please, just leave me alone.â
You can picture it all in your head. Something like I told you so from his lips, because after what youâve been put through tonight, you just want to assume the worst in people.
But just as you round the corner into an alley, feeling lost with the sight of a dead end, you feel a hand wrap around your arm and then youâre being pulled into an embrace.
Your eyes are blinking with tears streaming, your face buried in a chest that is warm, with a heart beating so fast that itâs keeping time with your own, and the fragrance that surrounds you is so painfully him that it makes you sob even more.
Strong arms wrap around you, pulling you closer, and Gojo rests his chin at the top of your head. âIâm sorry,â he says softly, and you can feel the rumble of his voice, âI just needed to stop you from running.â
Your arms are weakly raised, an outline over his torso but not yet grabbing on, until you hesitantly do. And when you hold onto him, itâs so tight and strong, and you realize that after everything between the two of you, itâs the first time youâve been wrapped in his arms.
âI feel so stupid,â you start, already hating the words because you want to be stronger right now, but you canât.
âYouâre not stupid,â he quickly corrects you, âthose guys are fucking insecure losers. Youâre just trying your best. You always have, for as long as Iâve known you, and itâs something you should be proud of yourself for.â
You donât know what to say to him, you just cling to the damp fabric of his shirt in the rain. Â
âThings are going to work out for you, no matter what, because I know youâve got what it takes and youâre willing to work hard for it,â he says, his chin nuzzling so youâre tucked into him even further, âand if things donât work out, thatâs okay, youâre strong and youâll always get back up. And I want to be there to help you through everything.â
You pull your face from his chest to stare up at him, droplets of rain falling to your face and making you flinch occasionally. âIâm confused.â
His hand comes up to cup your face, swiping at a tear on your cheek, or maybe it was rain. âI thought thatââ he starts, his thumb briefly running over the small cut still healing on your cheek, his brow furrowing, âI thought that Iâd be okay with watching your life from afar, through cropped pictures on a screen,â he says, a chill running through you, âbut I canât. Itâs killing me. And Iâm really sorry that it took me this long to tell you this, but I like you so much and I really want to be with you.â
Your eyes widen at his words, and you donât know how to feel. You push your face into his chest again. His thumb runs circles at your side through the dampness of your shirt.
âThere are a lot of reasons I didnât feel like I could date you, or show up for you,â he says, âbut the pain of not getting to be with you, of not getting to hold you, and just share my life with you is way worse than whatever reasons I kept trying to convince myself of.â
You nod slowly, because there was a part of you deep inside that knew that all along.Â
His grip on you relaxes slightly and you take that as a request from him for you to look up at him, so you do. âI know Iâve put you through a lot of pain, and Iâm really not a perfect person, but if thereâs room in your heart to forgive me, I promise you that Iâll do everything I can to make you feel happy and cared for.â
Your eyes study his face for sincerity. Theyâre words youâve been wanting to hear, words you couldâve pictured in your head, but the adoration in his eyes makes you realize you never couldâve imagined the true sweetness of those words when theyâre said from him.
You press your cheek to his chest again. Youâre not crying anymore. âIâm sorry for what I said to you earlier. About kicking a soccer ball, and having it easy,â you bite down on your lip, because now thereâs tears in your eyes again, âI didnât mean it.â You sniffle a little, âI know you work hard. And it was a really mean thing to say.â
He sighs, holding you flush to himself. His cheek presses against the top of your head. âThatâs okay, you donât have to apologize for that.â
âBut I do.â
There was no grudge at all. There was nothing withdrawn from you, nothing taken away as punishment. He just held onto you, exactly as you are, and you felt so safe in every second you spent in his arms.
You look up at him again. His hair is damp, strands clinging to his face in all the places they usually fall over, droplets of rain falling from his fringe onto your face and he does everything he can to wipe them away. âItâs too late,â you tell him, and he immediately knows what youâre referring to.
He just holds you closer. âI know.â
âI donât have feelings for you anymore,â you say through a sniffle.
He knows youâre lying, and that you say it just out of spite, but he holds your head to his chest. âI know.â
âYouâll have to beg and grovel, and even then, I might not like you ever again,â you say, gripping so tightly onto his shirt for purchase, your voice sounding muffled as you breathe in the scent of him. âThatâs your punishment.â
He presses a kiss to the top of your head. A firm press of his lips, lasting as he takes a few deep breaths. And then he kisses the same spot again, staying still in that position as he repeats himself.
âI know.â

if you're still doing requests: maybe one of the genshin guys finding out you use their card in tcg? scenario or headcanons is fine, and i have no preference for who you want to write! (i will say i'm fixated in the fontanians rn though)
the perfect pair
synopsis: their reaction to finding out you use their card in tcg
characters: tighnari, cyno, neuvillette, lyney, and wriothesely x gn!reader (separately)
warnings: nothing besides fluff and cyno being an actual maniac for tcg (heâs probably a little ooc but i think itâs funny)
notes: iâm ngl i totally forgot about tcg đ i played it SO much when it came out and then barely touched it unless it was for the primos. i gotta finish those achievements still đ also i know not every one of these characters has a tcg card but we can just pretend :) thank you for the request!
part two
Tighnari:
Because he doesnât play tcg very often â at least not as much as Cyno does â he doesnât find out right away
When he does, it happens at a casual dinner between you, him, and all your friends after Collei asks to play so she can try out some of her new cards
Cyno enthusiastically agrees and you all set up after you finish eating which is when Alhaitham, whose eyes never miss anything, spots a suspiciously similarly looking guy on one of your three player cards
âYou seriously have your boyfriend as one of your cards?â heâll ask with a disbelieving smile, as if he canât comprehend why youâd have it
You smile and lift it up, proudly nodding as you list off the cardâs strengths and the nice backing it came with. You donât fail the mention the bonus that it comes with your boyfriendâs face on it
Tighnari feels his cheeks warm in slight embarrassment as he turns away in his chair. Even so, he canât help but find it really cute that you have his card
He even tells his friends to shut up and that theyâre just jealous they donât have his card and that they wish their significant others had them as cards
It actually shuts some of them up, shockingly
Meanwhile, Cyno is in utter disbelief that such a card exists and will try to buy it off of you so he can complete his collection (you donât let him have it though)
Cyno:
Ah the king of tcg himself
He has the most dramatic reaction for sure. Not even in the sense that heâs embarrassed, or teasing, or whatnot. Heâs just straight up shocked
Slams his hands down on the table and his jaw drops as he stands up. You giggle on the other side of the table at his reaction, watching him desperately try to find words
âWhere did you even get that?!â
You swear you only see him this expressive when it comes to tcg
âI donât know, I just found it at a local store when I was passing by,â you shrug carelessly, as if you arenât going to completely destroy him with his own card in about five minutes
After he gets over the initial awe of seeing himself in his favorite game in the entire world, heâs actually very internally excited, although you donât get to see that side
He thinks itâs cool that you like using his card and is honored that youâd even choose it in the first place, especially with only three slots (heâs also just happy heâs a main card and not a buff lmao)
And when you do destroy him, he slides you a pen and paper and politely demands you give him the name of the seller so he can track them down tomorrow
Neuvillette:
He doesnât even play the game so initially, heâs extremely confused why you have a playing card with his face on it
âFascinating. I did not know they made such games. Is my card good for playing?â Heâs genuinely intrigued by it and you find it rather endearing
Because he doesnât understand it though, he doesnât necessarily feel any certain way about it. Heâs too caught up in the game to realize what it means for you to be using his card
âYeah, itâs pretty powerful, but itâs representative of real life so thatâs expected given your position.â
At that, he feels very flattered. His cheeks will warm a bit, casting a light blush over his features when you speak so proudly of him
Heâll even ask if you have a card of your own hoping to take a bit of the attention off him when he begins to feel more excited about it
You shake your head no and explain that itâs unlikely given people donât know enough about you to make a full card of you or to sell it
Will later get one made for you without you knowing, only one singular copy worth a priceless amount just so you could have one to match him too <3
Lyney:
Smug little shit
Youâre playing with him and his siblings after he invited you over for a date. Lynette and Freminet were bored so you both offered to play a game, to which tcg was suggested by Freminet
Youâd played only a few times with them before, which is why you didnât realize what was such a big deal when you pulled out a card with your boyfriend on it, entirely forgetting it was new and you hadnât used it with them yet
âIs thatâŠis that Lyney?â Lynette asks, stifling a laugh as she inspects the card. Freminet leans a little closer too in order to get a better look.
And it indeed is, Lyney confirms for himself
âWoah no way, I didnât know they made this,â he smiles at it, picking it up and spinning it in his hand before smirking at you, âI knew you couldnât resist this handsome face, even on a playing card.â
You smack his arm faster than Lynette can and snatch it back out of his hand. Lyney pouts and slouches down into his seat as his siblings inquire as to where you got it
Lyney canât stop staring at you as you tell them, his chest beating faster and faster as you embarrassedly ramble on about why you got it in the first place and how you thought it was cute like a little keepsake
Even though youâd been dating for some quite some time, you both managed to keep surprising one another and falling in love all over again, even if it was over silly things like tcg cards
Lynette sighs as she notices the lovestruck look in her brotherâs eyes, âHeâs doomed.â
Wriothesley:
Heâs weirdly calm about the whole thing. Not like heâd be over dramatic or anything, but I donât think heâd be as teasing or shocked by it like the others or like some may assume
Wriothesley thinks itâs really cool when he finds it in your collection one day after you left your card case in his office by accident, a few cards slid out with his face popping out on one tucked away in the middle
Heâll examine it before a gentle smile pulls at his lips at the thought of you using it to play against others
Heâs almost proud, in a way
When you walk into his office a ten minutes later, realizing you had left your cards and a few other of your things on his desk, you stumble upon him looking at it
âOh, uh you werenât supposed to see that yet,â you say awkwardly as you pause in your step and fiddle with your hands, embarrassed he had found it. It was a somewhat new card and you actually wanted to show it to him later
But Wriothesley doesnât care. Hell, if he had known there was a card out there with him on it, he wouldâve bought it for you a long time ago
Heâll just kiss you. A nice, sweet, and to the point kiss as he slides the card back in your hand before pulling away and staring down at you, âYouâre cute.â

Small Victories
18+ ---- {Masterlist} {Tag-List}
{Daemon Targaryen X Reader} After a tourney in which Daemon places second, he seeks solace from his loss and finds it in his little northern maid.
âĄâĄ Hello darlings! I'm branching out slightly and writing about a new character {Don't worry, I'm still writing Elijah} xoxo âĄâĄ
5.3k words - Warnings: smutt, size!kink, rough sex, dom!daemon, slight choking, virgin!reader, northern!reader, servant!reader, pre-dance Daemon, huge power imbalance...
âĄâĄ Hey! I didn't tag anyone because I'm unsure if you want to read Daemon content. If you wish to be tagged in future Daemon let me know âĄâĄ
You didn't like the Red Keep, it was too grand for your liking. Even with all of the people in it you still felt alone. At night, you could hear voices echoing throughout the halls, sometimes they were singing or laughing and other times they were screaming or moaning.
You could never tell where the sounds were coming from, it gave the place an odd feeling of being haunted. Ghosts weren't something you put your faith in, but that didn't stop the hair from standing up on the back of your neck whenever you heard a strange sound.
If it was up to you, you wouldn't live here. You would be back in the little cottage you grew up in, far into the north and as far away from King's landing as you could possibly be. It was a funny contradiction, that such a grand place in a warm environment could feel so cold, while a small house in the cold north could feel so full of warmth.
The last thing your mother said to you, was that you should be grateful. That your place in the Red Keep was the highest honor your family could ever hope to receive, and that you should do anything to stay here. To be a lady's maid to the queen, was the highest achievement a low born could achieve.
You tried to be, even though your heart yearned for the snowy landscape of your childhood. You wanted to be happy, you were thankful, but you couldn't help the way you missed the north.
So to try and capture just a bit of personal freedom, you would walk the halls at night. It was the only time you could pretend to be somewhere else, even if it was only for a moment. You would close your eyes and imagine yourself somewhere new and exciting, and when you opened them you would be reminded of where you really were.
Tonight you were in a particularly adventurous mood, there was a tourney the next day for Prince Viserys and his wife Aemma to celebrate their wedding. The Red Keep would be full of guests and it would be loud and full of life, you were sure to be very busy, and so you decided to stay up late and postpone sleep for a few more hours.
There was a room in the library that had a view of the city, one you liked to frequent often. It had a large window and a balcony that was rarely used. It was a nice place to go to clear your mind and think about home.
When you entered, nobody was around except for a cat that was perched on the windowsill. She was a lovely thing with black fur and bright green eyes, the perfect color of a dark forest at night.
"Hello, beautiful." You greeted her with a smile and a light stroke along her back. You looked out the window with her at your side, watching the moon reflect off the ocean and the waves crashing against the shore.
The sound of footsteps behind you made you look over your shoulder, your eyes landing on a man with a face that made you stand up straight and bow your head.
"Prince Daemon." You greeted him, not looking up from the floor.
"Young maidens like yourself shouldn't be out so late." He said, stepping closer to you. You didn't dare move or even breathe, his presence made you feel like you were caught doing something wrong.
"I couldn't sleep, my lord," You answered, not meeting his eyes. This was your first real meeting with the prince, but you knew the rumors that surrounded him.
He didn't respond to your answer, instead, he turned his attention towards the view. Leaning against the window, his posture was dismissive, as though you weren't there. He gave you a side glance that read, 'leave,' and so you did, not wanting to get in his way.
"I apologize, I didn't mean to intrude." You said, walking past him, heading towards the doorway.
"You are from the north," he spoke, still looking out into the water.
"Yes, my lord," You answered, stopping when he started speaking.
"How did you find yourself as a maid in the south?" He asked, looking at you, his eyes piercing through you.
The truth of the matter made you feel shameful, even though it was beyond your control. So you decided to tell him what you've been telling everyone.
"I was given as a gift for our new queen," You said, looking down at the floor.
"Is that what they call it?" Daemon laughed, his laugh was as harsh as his voice, the kind of laugh that could cut you open if you let it. "I heard you were given away as payment for a debt."
Your cheeks reddened and you looked at the ground, your throat closing up at the mention of your family's failure. Pride wasn't something you could afford anymore, but you couldn't stop the words that came out of your mouth.
"I didn't realize that princes were so fond of gossip." You said, meeting his eyes, your words were meant to cut, and they did.
He stood up straight, his expression unreadable as he closed the distance between the two of you, towering over you.
"Ahh, so they did sell you." He smirked, looking down at you. "Whoring can make you better coin⊠recover a debt quicker."
Your hands balled up into fists and you took a step closer, a defiant glare on your face.
He chuckled and tilted his head, he reached out and touched your chin, his hand was soft but firm as he turned your face to look at him.
"With a pretty face like yours, I'm sure you would make quite a bit of coin," His voice was a purr, a seductive growl that made your insides feel tight. "I could show you a better use for those lips."
His words were shockingly vulgar, his voice was rough and commanding and his eyes were hungry, but you didn't move away, you stayed still. You knew the dragon prince was a scandalous man, but you didn't think he would ever be so bold.
"There is no honor in a whore's coin." You answered, pushing his hand away from your face.
"Is there honor in emptying the queen's chamber pot?" He retorted, grinning slightly at how red your cheeks had become.
"Not all of us have the opportunity to choose what sort of honor we can acquire,â You said, standing your ground as best as you could.
He towered over you, his tall frame casting a shadow that almost completely covered you. He wasn't like the king or queen, who were kind and generous. There was something dark and malicious about him, as though the great beasts of his house lurked just below his skin, waiting to come out.
"You have a smart mouth, little northerner." He mused, his eyes drifting down to your lips. "It's a wonder that the queen has not put a gag in it."
"It's a poor quality I have yet to overcome." You responded, pulling away from him and putting some distance between the two of you.
He watched you move away, his eyes following your movements and the shape of your body, making you feel hot.
"I will think of you when I win the tourney tomorrow." He said, his tone smug and confident. "A sweet northern flower to bring back with me."
"You will be bringing back nothing, prince Daemon." You said, your voice a warning.
He laughed and looked at you, his eyes dancing with mischief.
"We'll see about that."
And with those final words, he left the room. You felt flustered and annoyed, a strange mixture of feelings that confused and angered you. You didn't like the prince, but he made your heart race, his voice and his eyes made you feel a strange sense of heat.
You wanted to be disgusted, and yet all you could think about was seeing him again.
It was a hectic morning, with all the knights and guests arriving, and you were late. Your tardiness had earned you a sharp reprimand from your head maid, but you were too distracted by the upcoming event to care.
The prospect of seeing the prince again was something you weren't sure you wanted, but couldn't stop thinking about.
You didn't like the way his eyes lingered on you, or how he made you feel things that shouldn't be felt. The rogue prince was indeed a fitting title, he was a scoundrel and a liar, a man of dishonor.
You thought that maybe he was the sort of person that the south created, perhaps they took people like you and turned them into someone like him. But then again, he wasn't really a southerner, no, he was a dragon.
The sound of cheers and laughter outside made your ears perk up. The queen was already seated with the other royals in their viewing box, and you were in a nearby tent, preparing more wine and food.
The tourney had just begun, and so far the knights had all performed well. You had only been paying a bit of attention, trying to do your job and keep out of the way.
The head maid was a cruel, vindictive woman, and she had been taking out her frustration on you all day. Her temper was short and her hands were rough, she was the kind of woman that would slap your hands or pull your hair if she was upset. But today she decided to simply make your life miserable with her words.
She gave you the worst jobs and the heaviest items to carry, and when she did allow you to stand and rest, she would hit your feet with her broom and tell you to get back to work.
"Once you are finished pouring wine, I want you to go to the prince's tent and serve him." She ordered, her eyes were sharp and her words were harsh.
"The prince has a squire to serve him." You protested, the idea of facing Daemon again made your cheeks turn red.
"The prince requested a woman's company,â She smiled, her eyes looking at you with an almost wicked satisfaction.
"I believe what the prince is looking for can be found on the street of silk, not among the ladies maids." You countered, hoping to change her mind.
"It's an honor to serve the prince, and he has specifically asked for a northern girl." The head maid was adamant, not willing to let this go.
You clenched your jaw and took a deep breath, biting your tongue as you looked at the floor.
"Very well, madam."
You held back tears as you climbed the stairs to the viewing box, pouring wine into the cups. Keeping your eyes low and only lifting them when absolutely necessary as you made your way down the line of royals.
Everyone began to stir and chat as the final round was announced. You turned to face the arena, watching as the prince mounted his horse, the sight of him made your heart flutter.
He was a handsome man, there was no denying that, his long blonde hair was braided and tied back, and his purple eyes were focused and determined.
His horse was a massive stallion, black as night, and he rode him as though they were one. He moved with a grace and confidence that was captivating.
The final round began, the two men charging at each other. You were nervous and excited, not knowing what to expect.
The clash of steel was the only sound in the air, it echoed throughout the entire arena. The crowd was silent, their eyes locked on the scene before them.
The two men passed each other, once, twice, three times. The tension building with each near miss, until finally the two knights clashed again.
Daemon's opponent had a slight edge over him, being bigger and stronger, but Daemon was quicker. But on the fourth pass, his opponent managed to catch him off guard, sending him flying into the dirt.
The crowd gasped, their hands covering their mouths as the prince's horse bucked and ran, leaving him in the dust.
You winced at the sight, it wasn't a good fall. He landed on his back, hard, and he lay still for a moment, his eyes squeezed shut as he caught his breath.
Only when the head maid cleared her throat did you realize you had been holding your breath.
"You are needed in the prince's tent, girl." she commanded, grabbing the jug from your hands and giving you a stern look.
You nodded, taking the tray of food and wine from the table and heading out of the box. Your heart was racing and your palms were sweaty, the thought of seeing Daemon after such a public humiliation was not something you were looking forward to.
The air was alive with the roar of the people, and the thumping of their feet sounded like thunder. They were chanting for the champion, something that would surely upset Daemon even more.
When you got to his tent, you hesitated, taking a moment to calm your nerves. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, letting the noise of the crowd fade away.
You stepped inside, finding him sitting in a chair, his shirt was off and his squire was cleaning a nasty gash on his arm.
"I'm sorry for intruding, Prince Daemon." You said, placing the tray of food on the table and pouring a cup of wine.
"Leave," he barked at his squire, his voice was gruff and his jaw was clenched.
"But my prince-" his squire protested, looking up from the wound he was treating.
"Now."
The boy left quickly, leaving you alone with the brooding prince.
"Would you like some wine, my lord?" You asked, your voice soft and timid, the last thing you wanted was to make him even more upset.
"No," he hissed, his voice sharp as a knife. "Bring me a new shirt."
You did as he asked, walking over to the large chest in the corner. It was full of clothes, the colors and fabrics were fine and beautiful. You selected a clean white shirt and brought it over to him, your eyes focused on the ground.
"Look at me," he commanded, his voice was quiet, but it was a demand, not a request.
You lifted your eyes, meeting his gaze. His eyes were cold, the same shade of violet that had captivated you was now a glare.
You did very well, my lord," You tried to reassure him, your voice soft and comforting.
"Is that meant to be comforting?" He asked, his tone was harsh and his expression was a scowl.
"Fine. I have never seen a worse display than the one you put on today," you said, the words slipping from your mouth before you could stop them.
He smiled, then laughed, his shoulders shaking as his amusement grew. Only his brother the king would ever talk to him this way, and here you were, a young low born northerner, mocking him. He didn't know why he enjoyed it coming from you, perhaps it was because your words meant nothing. You were no one, and he was the prince, and yet he found himself intrigued.
"That was quite a show, wasn't it?" He chuckled, the sound was hollow, not at all humorous.
"It was humiliating," you answered, the words escaping before you could stop them.
"Careful," he warned, his eyes narrowing. "You're lucky I find your insolence amusing."
"I thought it was why you had asked for me," you retorted, setting the shirt on the table and taking a step back.
He stood up from the chair, closing the space between the two of you. The air was thick with tension, his eyes boring into yours, his face was inches from yours.
"I didn't lose the tourney," he stated, his voice a low growl.
"You didn't win either," you countered, your cheeks flushed red, your heart racing in your chest.
He smiled, the gesture was almost predatory, he reached out and grabbed your face, his hands were rough and his grip was tight.
"You are quite the mouthy little wench," his words were a harsh whisper, his breath hot against your skin.
You didn't answer, afraid of what he would do if you spoke. He seemed to be enjoying himself, his eyes dancing with amusement as he stared at you.
"On your knees," he ordered, his tone demanding.
"My lord, I-" you protested, trying to pull away.
"Kneel," his voice was louder this time, and you knew that he was not going to repeat himself.
You hesitated for a moment, but he was the prince, and you couldn't disobey him. So you lowered yourself onto your knees, looking up at him, waiting for him to tell you what to do next.
"Is it true that northern girls can take a cock better than southern ones?" He asked, his hand still holding onto your chin.
You didn't know how to respond, his words making your cheeks burn. You could only stare at him, your mind reeling as you tried to figure out what he wanted.
He smiled, and the look in his eyes made your heart race. "Open your mouth, little northerner."
You did as he commanded, your eyes never leaving his. He pushed his thumb past your lips and slowly pressed down onto your tongue, rubbing it in circles before slowly dragging it out.
Your lips parted and your breathing became heavier as he traced his wet thumb across your bottom lip, his eyes fixated on the movement.
"Beautiful." He whispered before sliding his thumb back into your mouth, pushing it all the way into your throat, causing you to gag.
He pulled his thumb from your mouth and wiped the spit off on your cheek before grabbing you by the arms and lifting you up, turning you around and pushing you face first into the table.
"My lord," you gasped, struggling against his strong grip.
Daemon laughed at the look of shock on your face, his cock growing harder at the sight. "See? I knew you would make a great whore," he smirked, his words bringing a flush to your face.
He pulled your dress up, exposing your ass and legs. His hands were rough as he groped you, squeezing your thighs and your cheeks.
You pushed against him, trying to free yourself, but his grip was too strong. He pushed your thighs apart, his hand trailing up to your cunt, his fingers stroking your entrance, teasing you.
He softened at your defiance, a smirk crossing his lips. "I enjoy you, little northerner. Perhaps I should keep you," he mused.
He slid his finger into your cunt, his touch gentle and slow. You whimpered, pushing against him again.
"You would be my little northern flower," he murmured, his finger moving in and out of your cunt, the pace becoming quicker. "A blue rose in my garden."
You were ashamed of how aroused you were, the prince's touch was intoxicating, and you couldn't stop yourself from grinding your hips against his hand. You had never been with a man before and the pleasure he was giving you was beyond anything you had ever felt.
He slid another finger inside of you, his movements quick and rough. You moaned, biting your lip as you felt yourself getting closer to release.
He suddenly pulled away, the sudden absence of his touch made you whimper. He spun you around, knocking objects off the table and pinning you against it. Your hands went to his chest, pushing him back, but his grip was too strong, his eyes filled with lust.
"You're a feisty one," he whispered, his lips trailing down your neck, his hands gripping your ass, lifting you up and pressing you against his hips. "I guess it's true that the fires always burn hotter in the north,"
You shivered as he sucked and bit at the skin on your neck, his teeth scraping across your sensitive flesh, leaving red marks behind. You couldn't help but moan, the feeling was so intense, and the sounds were so sinful.
"My prince... I..." You stuttered, trying to find the words, but he cut you off with a kiss.
The feel of his hands on your body, his lips on yours, his cock hard against you, was intoxicating. You had never felt this way before, this desire, this want. He made you feel like you were drowning in the fire of his touch. He was a dragon, and he would take what he wanted.
You couldn't resist, you gave in, kissing him back, letting his tongue explore your mouth. He smelled of blood, dirt and sweat, a combination that shouldn't have been appealing, but was.
You could taste his lust on your lips, and it made you hungry for more. You wrapped your legs around his waist, pressing yourself closer to him, and he moaned, the sound rumbling in his chest. He was so much larger than you, so much stronger, and you felt so small in his arms.
His hand trailed down your chest, slowly untying the strings that held up your dress, his fingers tracing over the fabric, teasing you.
"Sweet little northern girl," he teased, his voice a low growl. "Are you going to give yourself to me?"
"Yes," you whispered, your cheeks flushed pink.
He kissed you again, his lips rough and demanding, his hand pushing your dress down, exposing your breasts. "You've never touched yourself before, have you?â
"No, my Prince," you whispered, your little hands curled into his chest, your nails digging into his skin.
"That's alright, I'll show you how it's done."
His hands slid down to your thighs, his fingers trailing up, his touch light and teasing. You let out a gasp as his fingers brushed over your cunt, touching a spot that made your body tremble.
"This little spot right here," he said, rubbing his thumb against it, "is the most sensitive part of your body. The more pressure, the better."
You nodded, gasping and moaning as he pressed his thumb against it, circling it. You could feel the heat rising within you, the pleasure building.
"Feels good doesn't it?" He whispered, his voice husky, his lips brushing against your ear.
"Y-yes," you stuttered, your hips moving, grinding against his hand.
He chuckled, the sound sending shivers down your spine.
"Do you like being my little whore, hmm?" He asked, his lips trailing down your neck, his kisses hot and wet.
"N-no," you moaned, pushing him back, trying to fight against him.
He laughed, his teeth nipping at your collarbone. "Liar," he whispered, his tongue licking over the marks he'd made.
His hands reaching down to his waist, undoing his breeches and pulling them off, his cock springing free. You gasped, your eyes wide as you took in the size of him.
He took your hand and placed it on his cock, his eyes burning into yours. "Go on, feel it," he whispered.
Your fingers curled around his cock, your small hand barely able to fit around him. You moved your hand, sliding it down the length of his shaft, his cock thick and pulsing in your hand. His skin was so warm and smooth, his breathing deepening as you began to move your hand up and down, stroking him slowly.
You could see the scars from battle stretched across his chest and torso. Small claw-like marks around his pectoral and a deep line that stretched down the left side of his rib cage. He was a hardened warrior, and you could tell by his scars, he had been through much to get where he was now.
You squeezed his cock, moving your hand up and down, his breathing deepening and his eyes growing hazy. He watched you, his gaze following every movement you made. You were starting to get more comfortable, taking pleasure in watching him, in making him feel good. You found the nerve to press the pad of your thumb against the tip, feeling the moisture leaking from him.
"Good girl," he praised, his voice low and husky.
You felt a wave of pride, knowing that you were pleasing him, that he liked the way you were touching him. You continued to stroke him, squeezing and pulling at his cock, watching his face, seeing the pleasure on his features.
He groaned, his eyes closing and his head tilting back, his breath catching. You could feel his cock throbbing in your hand, and you knew that he was getting close.
He let out a low growl and grabbed your wrist, halting your movements. "If you keep that up, I'm going to spill my seed all over this pretty little dress of yours," he said, his eyes full of heat.
"Is that so, my lord?" You asked, unable to hide the hint of amusement in your voice.
He grabbed your hips and pulled you under him, his body caging you, trapping you beneath him. He was breathing hard, his face flushed, his cock hard and resting on your stomach. His eyes burned into yours, his gaze intense, his hands gripping your hips, holding you steady.
You weren't talking back anymore, he could see the fear in your eyes, the hesitance, and that only made him want you more. His hand went to your throat, applying gentle pressure, a silent warning.
He could feel you trembling beneath him, and he tightened his grip, a primal, possessive urge rising within him. Your small hands pushing into his chest, clutching at his heated flesh.
"Open for me," he growled, his eyes fixed on yours.
You parted your thighs, allowing him to press closer to you. He growled, lifting your legs and wrapping them around his waist, his cock brushing against your cunt. He felt you tighten, your eyes widening with trepidation.
He chuckled, loving how terrified and eager you were at the same time. He gave you a moment, and then he slowly pushed into you. You whimpered, your nails digging into his back, your eyes closed, your face twisted in pain.
"Breathe," he said, rubbing his thumb against your cheek, "it will hurt for a just moment and then I will make you feel good,"
You nodded, taking a deep breath as you felt his cock hit your maidenhead.
"Are you ready, little northerner?" He whispered.
You gripped his forearms and nodded.
He pushed in slowly, breaking through your barrier. You cried out, the pain was intense and immediate. He groaned, the feel of your tight cunt was intoxicating.
He stayed still, giving you time to adjust. Your nails dug into his arms, leaving deep scratches in his flesh.
"Such a pretty, tight little cunt," he growled, nipping at your neck.
You kept your eyes closed, trying to focus on his words and not the pain. He began to move with slow, deep strokes, his cock stretching you, filling you. He was bigger than he felt in your hands, and you swore you could feel him everywhere.
He moaned, his hips rocking into you, his hand still on your throat, making you feel lightheaded. You looked up at him with wide eyes, your lips parted, your cheeks flushed. You felt so full of him, stretched open, the pain and pleasure mixing into one.
He watched your reaction with a smirk, amused by your shocked, satisfied expression. He was moving slowly, enjoying your warmth and the feel of your cunt clenching around him. He knew you were enjoying it, too, your eyes half-closed, a soft moan escaping your lip. Your small frame was arched to his body, your hands holding on to his neck.
You were surprised at his gentleness. You'd heard that the dragon prince liked to rough up women, but he was being as careful as if you were made of spun sugar. You felt so small and helpless underneath him, his large body nearly engulfing yours, and yet he wasn't hurting you. His touch was delicate, reverent. The way he spoke to you, calling you pet names, made your heart skip a beat.
You arched against him, a soft cry leaving your lips as his strokes got faster, deeper, hitting a place inside you that sent a sharp, hot pleasure through you.
"Does my little northerner like her prince's cock?" He said, a laugh in his voice, he began to pick up the pace, pounding into you.
You squeaked and pushed on his chest, the sensations becoming too much. He grabbed your hips and held you still, fucking you hard and fast, his eyes full of fire.
You felt your release rising up inside you, the tension in your body winding tighter and tighter. You could feel yourself clamping down on his cock, the pleasure almost too much, the sweet pain sending you over the edge.
He groaned at the sight of you coming undone, your breath coming in short, sharp gasps as you shattered around him. He could feel the tension in your muscles as your climax tore through you. He slowed his movements, easing out the last waves of pleasure, drawing it out until you were a shuddering, moaning mess.
He was close behind, his thrusts erratic, his breathing harsh. He pulled out and spilled his seed across your stomach, his hips bucking. He pressed his forehead against yours, his eyes closed, a contented sigh leaving his lips. At least he had one victory today.
Your face was hot with shame, your mind unable to comprehend what just happened. The prince's seed was cooling on your stomach and chest, the reality of the situation finally sinking in. Your hands went to your face, covering it as tears came to your eyes, you had never felt so good and so embarrassed at once.
He moved off of you, his eyes locked on yours, a smirk crossing his lips. He looked satisfied, his gaze wandering over your body, lingering on the wetness between your legs, the mess he'd made of you. He tossed you a cloth to clean yourself with. You wiped his seed off your skin, watching him dress, his blonde hair still braided back, his purple eyes full of lust and desire. He was a warrior, a dragon, he was beauty and strength, power and masculinity. He was everything you wanted and feared, a beast who could destroy you.
He gave you a side glance, his eyes full of amusement. "You may go," he said, shooing you away with a hand.
Your cheeks flushed with embarrassment, as you took a shaky breath. You stood up, gathering the pieces of your dress and your underclothes. Your legs were wobbly, and you felt weak, sore, and full of shame.
"Yes, my prince," you said quietly, looking at the floor, unable to meet his eyes.
He chuckled, the sound of his voice making you shiver. "Don't be so timid, little northerner. This is the beginning, not the end," he said, his words sending a jolt of fear and excitement through you.
He was right, this was only the beginning. You were his servant, and he could do with you as he pleased. He would have you come to him whenever he chose, on the warmest summer nights and the coldest winter days. He would take what he wanted, when he wanted.
He was a dragon, and his will was as strong as his blood.
And deep down, you knew you would enjoy it. He was the perfect thing to distract you from the mundanity of your life, the endless monotony of serving others.
Perhaps the Red Keep wouldn't be so terrible, not if it meant serving him.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS - LN4
halloween special
summary : loosely based on little black dress by 1Dđ happy halloween my horny bffs
listen up : kissing, yelling⊠him being horny. lando x fewtrell!reader
word count : 1655
âïœĄâ§Ëâ
She's always been beautiful. Sheâs the sort of pretty that when she walks into the room, everyoneâs head turns toward her.
Today though⊠shit. She looks straight up sexy.
Max punches me in the arm, realizing I'm not paying attention to whatever heâs saying. But I canât stop looking at her, long legs and a tiny black dress is all I can see.
As she gets closer, her hair bouncing with every step, I realize that itâs the type of hunger that will only be satisfied by my lips on hers.
There is one slight issue, though. âSis!â Max grins, messing up her hair as she pushes him away, âNice costume. You get it half off?â
âàŒș
you
âYou're so turning into our dad!â I roll my eyes at Max as he laughs and whips his arm around me, pulling me into a forgiving half hug. He's the mad hatter, cute since I saw Pierta in her Alice costume a few minutes ago.
I scrunch my face up before looking up at Lando. God⊠Lando. His eyes are practically setting me on fire, looking up and down my body. He's a skeleton.
Looking ridiculous hot in all black, his costume is made by the makeup on his face. An illusion of bones with black and white.
âHi, Lando. Happy Halloweenâ I say sweetly as he brings his cup to his painted lips.
âLookin good, Y/n.â He gives me a slight smirk and I can feel Maxâs annoyance before he starts complaining.
âLando. No!â Max says as if heâs some sort of dog.
âI didnât do anything!â He puts his hands up in defense before looking at me, âWant a drink?â I flash him a smile, fangs and all. He raises a brow at my favorite bit of my costume.
A vampire is not basic, Itâs classic!
âShe wants nothing from your grubby hands!â Max says immediately, his mad hatter hat tilting on his curls.
âGrubby!?â Lando scoffs as I laugh, but I see my friend in the crowd and squeal, leaving them both.

How weird would it be if I said I want her to bite me? Fuck, it sounds weird doesnât it? I donât care. Sheâs been dancing with P for the past thirty minutes, downing at least two drinks and moving her ass in a way that should be illegal.
Thereâs fake blood on her chest and mouth. A mouth I'm desperate to kiss.
Iâve known her forever, and I would never admit it to Max⊠but I've always had a bit of a thing for her. How do you tell your protective best friend that youâre hot for his younger sister?
The answer is that you donât.
But this feels different. Weâre older, weâre both hotter, and I swear I saw her checking me out.
Max has disappeared and thereâs a girl by my side in an instant. I take one look at her, get disappointed that sheâs not Y/n, and leave.
I spot her at the bar.
I tug on her hair and she lets out a little scream before she turns and sees me. Her mouth contorts into a mischievous smirk, her nose scrunching. âTwo vodka shots.â I nod at the bartender, standing close to her. âI like your costume.â
She looks bored, âThink I look hot?â When she turns to get my reaction I just tilt my head a bit, biting back a smile. She knows I do.
âWell I think yours is a bit underwhelming.â She sighs as I scoff.
âHey- P spent an hour on this!â she giggles, âWhat would you rather me be?â
She thinks for a moment as the bartender slides us the shots, âHmm⊠a driver?â Her body shifts towards me, holding up the vodka and smiling innocently.
âVery funny.â I take my own shot, tapping the table and downing it without breaking eye contact.
âYou here alone?â
She leans against the bar, âNope⊠my friends are here somewhere.â She breaks eye contact, surveying the packed crowd.
I lean in closer, âI mean did you come here with a guy?â
She narrows her eyes at me, âNo.â
I canât help but smile, teasing her is my favorite activity. âYou open to leaving with one?â
She blinks, biting her bottom lip, âLandoâŠâ I know iâm playing with fire but I donât care.
âWhat?â I say innocently, âFor safety reasons.â
She lets out a little laugh, âIâm not fucking you in the name of safety.â I frown.
âYouâre losing your little flirty spark, Fewtrell.â I lean closer, my arm resting on the bar, âYou grow up, finally?â
âI grew up.â She nods, âBut I'll never lose my spark.â She looks offended, my eyes flick down to her body⊠her chest⊠her lips.
âProve it.â Her hand goes to her hip.
âYou gonna flirt with me all night or actually make a move?â Spark is still there. 1000% still there because the way sheâs leaning into me makes me hard.
I glance at the people drinking and dancing, seeing Max instantly in his hideous hat. He's not looking at us, but I know heâs gotten a vibe tonight when I was staring at Y/nâs ass.
âYou really want me to make a move in front of your brother?â I ask her and I can tell sheâs torn.
Y/n has always been close to Max, but she was always known to be troublesome. I liked her more for it. She would sneak guys in when their parents were away and Max would always call me, purposefully being loud about how much he could bench to scare the guy away.
âLetâs dance.â My hand slips to her waist, tugging her closer. She gives me another suspicious look, âCome on⊠I wanna see the way you move for me.â
She rolls her eyes, âTake you and your one liners somewhere else.â She starts walking away, but I follow.
âDonât act like you donât love it.â I take her hand finally, tugging her into the crowd and pulling her close to me.
âDonât act like you donât get off on it.â I bite the inside of my cheek as her hand moves to my neck and into my hair.
âYouâre so fucking hot.â I should probably think twice about telling this to my best friend's sister, but why lie?
She throws her head back, laughing. She shakes her head and keeps dancing. The neon lights swirl around us as people push and scream over the music. I can practically feel the djs mix in my body.
Y/nâs hand goes to the back of my head again, standing on her toes to yell in my ear. âI donât want to smudge your makeup.â I think I'm about to faint.
I shake my head, making her look at me in the eye to make sure sheâs serious. Sheâs staring up at me, a brow quirked as if sheâs daring me.
My lips are on hers embarrassingly fast.
Gripping her waist, I slip my tongue in her mouth. The fake fangs scrape against me but I'm too focused on her so close to me to care.
âàŒș
you
I've spent an unhealthy amount of time wondering what it would be like to kiss Lando. Now I know that my younger self was completely wrong.
Heâs possessive and rough, holding me close and sliding his hand up my body, to my neck. He tastes like makeup and alcohol, my hands holding his neck and tugging at his shirt.
Itâs too loud for him to hear me say his name. He bites my lip and I let out an involuntary whine. He's smirking against me when I tug his shirt, pulling back.
I smile at him, catching my breath for a second just to make sure this is real. âI love this song.â It's âlittle black dressâ by one direction. The song that I played every day of my teenage years whenever Max and Lando were bugging me.
I laugh, leaning back as he rests his head on my shoulder, pressing a kiss to my skin. I turn his head to face me again, kissing him softly. âMaybe I'd be okay with going home to a guy.â I say in his ear.
âYou better be talking about me.â His face is serious but I canât help but laugh, slapping his arm before kissing him again.
âOf course itâs you, muppet.â Iâm kissing him again. I get lost in a haze of smoke and music, melting into him as he breathes against me.
Heâs kissing my neck now, moving his hand down past my back. Then heâs gone.
Heâs off me in a second, âWhat. The. Fuck!?â Itâs Max. âNo! No! No!â He looks like heâs about to kill Lando.
âHeyâŠâ I think Max itâs going to be okay until a smirk breaks out on Landoâs stupid face. âWhat if I told you I'm really drunk?â
Maxâs fists clench, âLando-â He turns to me, looking pissed off, âI canât even with you!â
I push my hair back, shrugging and wiping my mouth. I look at Lando whoâs about to laugh, his mouth is smudged with blood, black paint, lipstick.
âMy sister!?â He yells, getting the attention of few around us.
âI- Okay look! I didnât. I mean! Yeah⊠Sheâs hot!â he goes through options, clearing giving up as he looks at me. Max loses it then, âYup!â Lando turns and fucking bolts.
Max is screaming and iâm laughing, itâs almost too comedic. The crowd basically parts as Lando hurries past, my brother chasing after his best friend.
When theyâre about to be out of view, Lando turns, âYo, Vamp!â He calls out, running backwards with a scared and mischievous expression on his face. He brings a hand to his head, mimicking a phone before breaking out into a grin, âCall me!â
