Okay here’s some advice. Don’t wait for motivation to start reading books again. Commit to ten minutes of reading every day. Make it a special part of your day. Light a candle at 5:30 in the morning, drink some coffee, and read your lil book.

If you’re an adult who doesn’t read books anymore, try reading actual adult fiction. And yes, I do think it’s important to read novels. If you’re bored with YA, it’s probably because you’re yearning for more challenging concepts.

And maybe stop looking at “best books of the year lists” and getting frustrated that there aren’t good books anymore. Because these books often appeal to a lot of people, they might not be appealing to your specific interests. There IS good queer lit that isn’t necessarily in the limelight, for example.

Also stop relying on motivation to do anything because once you get depression, you’ll stop doing that thing immediately 😘 Make achievable goals and develop habits. If you can’t read for 10 mins a day, then how about 5?

Anyway, I do think making this change has changed me for the better.

alex hirsch truly is like. the guy ever. he created one of if not the most renowned and successful disney tva shows. he clowns on said network. he won his high school’s bird calling contest. he hates trump and is always advocating for people to vote. also prank calls republican/maga hotlines and was on the washington post for such. he voices half the cast of his own show and does a deranged mickey mouse voice he uses for like two separate shows. he owns a giant taxidermy buffalo. he and his sister were on an international improv team in high school. disney censored practically all queer themes in his show and now he has a nyt best seller (and created the website plus recent interviews ect ect) that imply there was something going on between that fuck ass triangle and ford. a straight man creating good old man yaoi. creates the craziest rabbit holes to send the fandom down probably primarily fueled by adhd and coffee. he probably has his flannel sewn to his body atp and has thousands of sticky hands on the wall in his house. i could go on but he’s just truly such a interesting guy

don't stress about that opportunity that fell through or that friend you lost or that thing you really want to happen but isn't. as long as you keep your chin up and try try try again, better things will replace your losses. i'm looking at my life rn and actually marveling at how every single thing i stressed about, whether it be an opportunity or a person, got supplanted w another thing that is so much better. it really is true that loss makes space for better things. these days i don't get sad when something doesn't work out. i get excited that i'm now open to so many other possibilities out there, so long as i actively seek them. you never lack. you just transition.

Periodic reminder that unless a person specifically and clearly tells you it is okay to tell others they are trans or queer, you should err on the side of caution and assume they do not want you to tell people (especially random people!) about their transness or queerness.

You have no idea, generally, why somebody doesn't talk openly about their trans or queer status, and you have no idea, truly, how somebody might react to that information. The most progressive person out there is still capable of harbouring incredibly negative thoughts about somebody's queer status.
