you would like to say that you’re immune to satoru’s charms, but then you would be a liar.
sometimes you, sure, can say no, but most of the time you indulge him. he uses his pretty face and even prettier words to get his way. it does reassure you that you have the same effect on him. actually, he can never say no to you.
he once sat with himself to think that maybe he is spoiling you, and he needs to stop, but then you entered the room beaming, smooching his face and asking to go to that one café that opened recently.
satoru’s original plan was to do the paperwork yaga has been yelling to him about, but how can he say no to you? so with a grin, he locked arms with you and the both of you skipped to the café.
so yeah, you’re both so down horrendous for each other and neither of you can deny it.
it’s terrible for everyone around you.
the way the both of you are screaming each other’s name from a mile away and running towards each other like you're in some romance movie. the hug is even more dramatic than the running, somehow.
the balant display of affection makes the students all roll their eyes.
one time, you called satoru from home and you had a call that lasted for an hour or so. eventually, you had to hang up since satoru had a class to teach. however, these goodbyes take even longer than the call itself.
“I love you, ‘toru!”
“I love you, my pretty angel!”
“I love you more, my lovely husband!”
“I love you even more, my divine wifey!”
and it continued like that forever. the students almost lost hope to get any education that day, but satoru finally said, “okay, pretty, I have to go now.”
they beam as they hear your voice replying with a sweet ‘okay!’, but they quickly deflated when satoru relaxed back and said, “but you have to hang up first.”
of course, what followed was a ‘no, you hang up first!’.
one and after another and nobara had enough before snatching satoru’s phone and instead speaking to you, “okay, y/n-sensei, we all love you, but we need this guy to teach us something so bye!”
satoru spent the entire day pouting.
another thing is how the both of you take pictures of the other while they are unaware. at first, you would think there is nothing wrong with it, and there isn’t.
but both of you love to fawn about the other in front of your students or friends.
satoru rambles with the most passionate and energetic fangirling ever to nanami, an audience that’s about to jump off a building, and you, who refuses to believe his beauty, ramble to shoko who’s about to finish 4 packs of cigarettes.
in general, satoru is a lot more brazen with his show of affection. for example, the way he shamelessly stares at you like he is memorizing your every feature.
sometimes, his hands wander to your face to gently caress it, then his lips follow, pressing a peck to every part of your face, drawing constellations of love. he then pulls back with a smile, “you’re really pretty, y’know?”
he always says what’s on his mind, and he is the type of lover to help you challenge your limits. he pays the people around him no mind as he pulls you in the rain with a grin, saying, “come on, dance with me!”
and you do your best. you’re both clumsy in your steps and you’re swaying more than dancing. satoru’s infinity is off and you’re both soaked.
still, satoru thinks you’ve never looked prettier, and you think his eyes never shone brighter.
there are times when words escape you before you think about them like that one time satoru was in a mini rush to go on a mission and forgot to give you a goodbye kiss. before he dashed out the door, you held him by the shirt and frowned, “my kiss?”
despite his blindfold, shock was evident on his face. he recovered quickly though. with a chuckle, he murmured a soft, “right sorry, wifey,” and kissed you passionately. he pulled back slightly, “am I forgiven?”
you nodded lightly and kissed his cheek, “yup; now go, mister strongest sorcerer.”
“I prefer my lovely husband, but that will do as well.”
he likes to tease you too. it’s in his nature, something he does with everyone he knows. of course, there is some teasing reserved especially for you.
satoru also loves hearing you sing his praises or verbalize your love for him. like that one time you were going on a mission and murmured an ‘I love you’ to his lips, but he quickly stopped you and said, “what did you say, pretty?”
you looked at him confused, “I said I love you,” you poke his cheek, “you heard me.”
he laughed, pulling you close and pressing a kiss to your neck, “I know; I just wanted you to say it again.”
you wanted to roll your eyes, but instead, you cupped his face, pulled him down, and started smothering him with kisses. you pressed a kiss to his cheek, “I love you,” then the other one, “I adore you,” his forehead, “I am infatuated with you,” his eyelids, “I can’t imagine a day without you.”
a big wide grin was plastered on satoru’s face and his cheeks were painted a very faint hue of red. you chuckled at his expression, “was that enough?”
he enveloped you in a big hug, resting his face on yours, “one more time, please?”
for you, you see satoru in a several things in your daily life. you see him in the blue sky above you. you see him in the glass of the bakery you pass by. you see him in the white cat that always walks by your side near the school.
you also hear him in the some of the songs you listen to, and you don’t hesitate to let him know.
one time when you were stargazing on the roofs of the school, playing your playlist since the time before it was satoru’s turn. a specific song started playing and it made you smile, before you spoke up, “y’know, satoru.”
he hums and you continue, “this song reminds me of you.”
you don’t hear a response, so you turn to look at him, “it’s actually one of my favori—satoru? satoru, are you tearing up?!” you laugh, leaning close to him, and he looks away.
“nope!”
behind closed doors, and with great distances separating the both of you, you never fail to call the other to feel their presence even through a phone. it’s practically a ritual for you and satoru to video call whenever one is out on a mission.
you can talk for hours and hours on end or relish in the silence, comforted by the fact that you can see each other.
satoru always insists on them, saying that he sleeps better when he see you. you share the same sentiment, so there’s no surprise that you both always fall asleep on call.

this is part of the boys over flowers series featuring booseoksoon + chan! this is the first instalment in that series.
It was a day of much ruckus and excitement. The teachers and students were all waiting eagerly to meet the four new teachers who were joining Sebong Elementary School that day. Children with bright cherub faces peeped from their classroom windows, some crowded in the corridors, and teachers whispered loudly, as they all waited to see the four faces of the new teachers emerge from the Principal’s office. And when they finally did, a loud, collective gasp was heard rippling through every room and corner of Sebong Elementary School. And then the bubble broke, as loud whispers and giggling overtook every other noise, as the four men smiled at the kids and adults gathered through the school. They shone brighter than the tubelights on the ceiling-
“Okay, I think you’re exaggerating, Sohee. I’m sure they don’t have 1000 watt smiles.”
“Oh, Y/N, but they do! Even an ice queen like you is going to melt when you see them. They just exude warmth, kindness, and handsomeness. They look like idols, really!”
“Now you’re definitely exaggerating. Park carefully, and don’t daydream please. I’ve been nervous from the moment I let you drive my car.”
“It’s a third-hand car. I should, in fact, smash it, so that you can buy something better. The government’s just moments away from declaring it as junk.”
“This is all I can afford, Sohee.”
“Car loans exist!”
“Bankruptcy exists!”
Sohee huffs, and you meticulously check the rear view mirror to ensure she parks neatly. Once done, (read, once Sohee has finished touching up her lipstick and her mascara, and put a few cute hairclips in her long brown hair, cute by her metrics), you both step out of the car. The heat has become harsher, and you’re a little taken aback by the sting of sunlight on your skin. But it feels good to be out again after that stupid bout of fever which had kept you away from school, and consequently, your life.
You meet several students getting out from the bus in front of the school, some smiling and already chattering with their friends, others shyly holding on to the fingers of their parents. Some of them wave hi to you, others loudly squeal their welcome backs. Your morning grumpiness is slowly wearing away, and you can feel energy bubbling in. It’s barely been the start of the year, and the little ones are very, very gradually warming up to the idea of being away from home for longer than three hours. It’s a trying time for their teachers, and you’re grateful that you don’t teach the youngest class.
On the short walk from the parking area to the school, and it’s such a miracle that Sohee doesn’t start talking about the four new teachers, because you’re frankly tired of hearing about them. It feels like they don’t exist, and even if they do, they’re going to be massive letdowns compared to Sohee’s descriptions. Sohee does have the habit of hyperbole.
But you fall headfirst into it as you slide open the door to the staffroom. Everyone stands up and greets you, as you’re one of the earliest members of the staff. You’d like to think that their greetings are out of affection, and not just respect, but you don’t mind. Majority of the staff is quite young, and people look up to you as the sunbae, and it’s a position of respect you crave and enjoy. It’s not like you’re great at showing how you love them either. You can just hope that they get to know about it from time to time, and don’t hate you for not being too affectionate.
As everyone stands up, you bow to the general crowd, and greet them back, but you’re also welcomed by four unknown faces.
Oh. They must be the new teachers.
Well, Sohee wasn’t really wrong-
Sohee immediately sparks up and begins talking about how you had really high fever, and every evening she found you lying inside your bed, covered in blankets like a burrito, messy in snot and sweat-
“Okay, that’s enough. Sohee, please spare them the details of my ugly illness.” You’re embarrassed and quite red all over, and out of the corner of your eye, you’re watching the reactions of the four new men. Sure, you may not care much about what other people think, but it’s your first impression after all. Everyone is quite vehemently cooing at you now, and the four men have confused, but concerned expressions on their faces.
Minseo comes to the rescue, when she diverts the topic to introduce the new faces to you, and you’re grateful for the first time to hear about these new teachers.
“This is our sunbae, Y/L/N Y/N! She’s one of the first teachers at Sebong Elementary School.” “Aaah, Minseo-yah! You make it sound like she’s old!” Sohee scolds, but you don’t mind. You sure feel old after the way that fever broke your immunity like a twig.
“Aah, sorry. And Y/N Unnie, these are our new joinees this year!” She gestures towards the men, and they bow. You bow in return, and take a full look at them, smiling back at them.
“Hello! I’m Lee Chan, I’m a ‘99 liner! I’ll work hard and show my best side to you, sunbae!” “Good morning! I’m Boo Seungkwan. Nice to meet you!” “Oh, sunbae, hello! I’m Kwon Soonyoung, I’m also glad to meet you Y/N-ssi!” “And I’m Lee Seokmin! I’ll work hard, please take good care of me, sunbae!” They shake your hands like dominos, and your eyes linger a second too long on the last one, the tall one with the brightest smile. 1000 watt seems about right? “I’m happy to meet you too! Let’s work hard for a long time!” You smile back, and there’s a collective Fighting! through the room, before the school bell rings, and the cacophony of kids entering their classrooms breaks the silence of the school building.
_
It’s lunchtime, and you’ve already forgotten their names. Sohee insists that you sit with them at the same table for lunch, but you’re not hungry enough to take lunch. It’s been a tiring day, and you just want to sip your iced americano and finish the pending work on your desk in the staffroom. Missing a week of school is as burdensome for teachers as it is for students. There are piles of things left to be done, and you assign yourself the task of finishing filling in the register with the names of the students for that lunch break. The staffroom is empty, and you’re happy to work in peace.
You’re so focused on your work that you don’t even notice when a tall man walks into the staffroom sometime in the middle of the lunch break, peeps at you from his desk at the other corner of the room, and then leaves.
_
It’s finally Friday, and that’s how you’ve spent the last four lunch breaks. You’re finally getting through the pile of work at a steady pace. On top of it all, the Principal has promoted you to the Head Teacher of Science Department, as the previous head’s tenure is over, and that means all the science teachers have to approve their lesson plans for this term through you and you’re also in charge of allotting field trips for scientific experiments.
That’s why Lee Seokmin ambushes you when you’re about to leave at the end of the school day. “Sunbae, I was wondering if you could perhaps look at my lesson plan once? Maybe you could go over it during the weekend?”
You halt your actions of packing your bag, and carefully take the folder from the outstretched hand of the tall man towering over your desk. “Umm, I could look through it now.”
“No, I mean! I’m sorry I didn’t know how to approach you earlier, Sunbae. I’m sorry, I don’t want to keep you from heading home, I’m really sorry-”
“Please stop apologising, Seokmin-ssi. It’s not a big deal. It’s better for me to go through it now in your presence, rather than take it home. I’ll be able to discuss it more smoothly with you then, in case any changes are needed.”
His puppy brown eyes become tiny slits as he smiles wide. You realise that his hair is draping over his forehead in black curls, and the white shirt he’s wearing reveals the column of his neck very elegantly. He does look good enough to be an idol, you think.
“Seokmin-ssi, come take a seat here. I won’t bite, in spite of what you may have heard-”
“Oh no! The kids are all praise for you. I’m so thankful to be succeeding you in the classes, because you’ve set such a strong foundation for the students. You’ve made my job a cakewalk, truly.”
“I’m just thankful that you deal with the younger ones now. I enjoy teaching them, but sometimes they can…” You smile lopsidedly, and Seokmin grins. “I’ve heard that I have a lot of patience, sunbae…” “And you have a lot of fighting spirit that we tend to have when we’ve just joined the school. You’ll manage.”
And then the conversation halts. It flows in bits and pieces, as you flip through his lesson plan and discuss changes with him, speaking from experience of having taught these same classes six years more than him. His lesson plan book is very colourful, filled with stickers from cartoons, and brightly drawn smiley flowers. Something in you makes you think that maybe he’s not just doing this as a show for the kids, but also because he likes to do it. He’s very animated in every statement he makes, hand gestures all over his face, but he quietens down when he realises you’re no longer looking at his face, and would rather just get through the work quickly. You’re not annoyed at him, no. It’s just a little overwhelming to see all this energy being thrown at you, and it makes you tired, wondering how to reciprocate it. So you just silently finish your task, and bid him goodbye. He offers to drop you home, but then you say you have your own car, so he gives you another smile and with a natural ease, hops on to his electric bicycle and rides off into the road.
_
Seokmin-ssi, you realise, doesn’t want reciprocation. He greets you cheerfully every morning, whenever you see him in the campus, whenever you’re making eye contact before leaving for the day, and whenever you both arrive at the same time at school. He doesn’t just say hello, but he also asks if you had a good weekend, if you had a good sleep, if you ate breakfast, if you’ve recovered fully from your cold, if you’re taking your vitamins. It makes you more uncomfortable than before, confusing you whether he’s just buttering you up as a sunbae or whether he’s genuinely this nice. It’s also a little worrying because it makes you feel like he’s trying too hard to be close and you don’t want to be a bother for him, so you hope he takes the hint. But he obviously doesn’t, because the next time you walk into the staffroom determined not to leave your desk, and instead enjoy the peaceful solitude of the staffroom to recharge your battery, you notice a very neat lunch tray sitting on your desk with a note attached on top, “Sunbae, please don’t skip your meals!” It takes you aback, and you stare at it for a good four minutes. Finally you realise you’re too flustered to eat it, and you just keep it aside and get back at your work.
When Seokmin comes back from his lunch break, he makes the mistake of looking at your desk to see if you’ve eaten, and there. He makes eye contact with your razor sharp eyes looking at him from above your reading glasses. He walks up to your desk and says, “You didn’t eat, sunbae?”
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“I- I- just wanted to-”
“Firstly, Seokmin-ssi, I’m not skipping meals. Secondly, I don’t know if this is normal for you, but I’d appreciate it if we could be harmonious as colleagues. I don’t need you to be my mother for me and feed me. I’m an adult and I know when to eat.”
You can see him gulp and fumble, and for a second, you think you’ve been too harsh. You almost backtrack and apologise, scared that the little light in his eyes is going to go out, but he speaks faster, “I just don’t want you to fall sick again, sunbae. I’m sorry if I was too presumptuous. I’ll do better from now on.” And without another second, he turns and walks out of the room, leaving you speechless. The light in his eyes may not have gone out, but you sure were too mean. Afterall, he was just being nice to you, wasn’t he?”
_
So, the next week, when you’re finally on track and completed all your pending work, you walk into the cafeteria looking to take a lunch break. And you spot Seokmin sitting with Chan on one table on the teacher’s side of the cafeteria. Chan is a sweet boy, and you want to make amends with Seokmin, so you carefully walk across the room to their table and ask, “Can I have lunch with you?” You ask them both, and Chan instantly begins to clear space for you to sit down, but you’re distracted by how wide Seokmin smiles, and you know the ice has melted. He’s forgiven you, so you gently sit down next to him.
It’s a mistake. You hadn’t accounted for how broad he is, and how much he moves his body while speaking. His thighs inch closer to yours with every movement, although very much unconsciously. Even though you’re both sitting, he’s still taller than you, and it makes you shy.
You’re thankful when Soonyoung joins you across the table and you can distract yourself by speaking to him. “Sunbae, it’s so nice to see you in the cafeteria! We rarely ever see you outside the staffroom.” You smile as wide as you can, your mouth full of food. Chan joins in, “Yes, sunbae! Seokmin hyung’s been so-” “We’ve all been worried,” Seokmin interjects, and you’re hit by a pang of guilt. It is pretty natural for coworkers to care about each other. Especially since you’re their senior and they must be looking to make a good impression.
“I’ve been a little busy with all pending work. The start of the year can be stressful for us senior teachers.”
“I hear Seungkwan hyung is being put in charge of the after-school creche duty?”
“You’ve heard right, Chan. He did apply for it, and given his congenial personality, I think he’d do well if he joined the creche roster.”
“A roster? That means he won’t have duty every day?” Soonyoung asks you.
“Yes, there will be two teachers alternating from Monday to Friday.”
“Oh! Someone lucky gets two days only!”
“We try to ensure even distribution through the month,” you say. “Plus, of course, there can be others volunteering from time to time. So for example, next month, there’s a storytelling week at the creche. Sohee and I will be volunteering for that week as storytellers- that way, the ones responsible for the creche can have a week’s leave from the extra duty.”
Soonyoung and Chan nod in understanding, but you’ve noticed Seokmin is extra quiet, uncharacteristically even. “Do you enjoy the cafeteria food, Seokmin-ssi?” you ask him, speaking softer so that Chan and Soonyoung can’t hear you. It must surprise him, because he looks up at you with wide, boba eyes, and he looks more like a puppy than ever. “I do! The variety is good.” “I’m glad. The caterers recently got changed. The previous ones were seriously falling behind on quality.” Seokmin smiles and eats a big bite of rice and soup, and you chuckle at the comical way his mouth fills up.
_
You didn’t even think Seokmin would remember. In fact, you’d forgotten that you’d mentioned it yourself.
But he does. He doesn’t just remember, but he also brings a bag full of old picture books.
You swear your heart stops the moment he enters the hall where the after-school creche is organized and hands you the bag. “These were books my mother had kept for ages even after I’d finished reading them a million times. Thought I’d use them somehow, instead of just letting them gather dust on shelves,” he says as he smiles that pretty, wide smile again. It’s been long enough into the new semester now for you to get used to both Seokmin’s smiles, so you can bask in it. The children bask in it too. Most of the tiny members of the creche know him from the class where he’s teaching about animals, and they squeal in excitement. “Aah, Seokmin-ah, you really didn’t have to. You could’ve gone home and rested for the weekend.” His smile drops, and you mentally slap yourself. You really should take care of your words better, so you rephrase it, “What I meant is… you don’t have to do this out of your way.” “I’m not… going out of my way. I just thought I’d come and watch you, sunbae. I want to learn how to handle little children even better.”
So he sits in a corner of the hall, Byul and Jiwon sitting on his lap, while his eyes are fixed on you. You’ve taken the storytelling class two days this week, and this is your third day, so you really shouldn’t be so slippery, but something about how he’s looking at you so intently is making you stumble and fall over your words, and your pronunciation often comes out as jumbled as the three year olds sitting in front of you. You’re made even more aware of Seokmin’s presence when snack time arrives, and the kids are too distracted with the picture books to pay attention to their food and eat. Thankfully, Seokmin uses his charm and somehow gathers everyone to sit in a circle around the table. The children have incessant questions, some about the characters they met in the story, and some random questions too, like Are you married, Teacher Seokmin? It doesn’t matter that you pause in your movements to hear his response, a wide-eyed Minhyun looking confusedly at you, wondering why your hand holding his candy is stuck mid-air. It also doesn’t matter that your heart paces up when you see Seokmin glance in your direction before loudly proclaiming that he’s not married.
The parents arrive soon after that, and then there’s only a crying Byul left, who’s wrapped in Seokmin’s arms as you three wait for her father to arrive. You wonder for a second, how did you ever handle kids, because when you see how Seokmin handles them, you think you’ve done it all wrong for years. He holds her two tiny hands in his own, places her in between his legs and quietly brushes her hair while whispering more imaginary stories about the elephant Byul saw earlier in the picture book. You feel unwanted in this perfect scene, Byul going perfectly silent as she listens to Seokmin talk. But then, honestly, who wouldn’t be in rapture of this beautiful young man?
Byul’s father arrives twenty minutes later, and Byul gives Seokmin a little peck on his cheek before she leaves his arms and goes off with her dad.
“Sunbae, thank you for letting me be here! I had so much fun, and I also learnt so much from you.” You laugh, “I doubt, though. You’re such a natural with children.” He smiles, “That’s just because I have a lot of cousins. But it’s different handling kids at school. I always have to be extra-careful with them because I’m a complete stranger and not a relative.” “You’re right, and that shows in your care too, Seokmin-ah.” He blushes, and you smile as you lock up the hall and finally make your way to leave the campus. Your back hurts from sitting on the floor for so long and you’re surely glad to go home.
“Sunbae, did you bring your car?”
“Aah, no. Today was Sohee’s carpooling turn, she left early. I’ll just take the bus.”
“Let me drop you home, sunbae! It’s late already.”
You pause, and turn to look at him. His hopeful face, still radiant after the long day. And you feel that same overwhelming feeling take over you. Till now, Seokmin has only given and given, never expecting anything in return. He’s extended a helping hand without you asking for it, he’s reminded you for meals even when you’ve ignored him, he’s been nothing but kind to you. And if he’s doing this even after three whole months of him joining the school, then it can’t be just buttering tactics.
“I don’t want to get you late, Seokmin-ah.”
“I won’t, sunbae. It’s not a worry, honestly.” He bites his lower lip, his eyebrows furrowed as he asks you again, “Please let me drop you, sunbae.”
It’s been years since a man has been this kind to you. Kind enough without coming off as a creep. A part of you is wary, but something in Seokmin’s eyes makes you feel guilty for ever mistrusting his intentions.
“Alright, Seokmin-ah. Noona owes you one.”
You can see the stutter in his eyes even before you hear it in his voice.
“N-noona? Oh. Noona! I’ll drive you safely!”
And he does. Diligent, puppy-like, kind Seokmin drives you home quickly and safely. For the first time in years, you sleep with a smile on your face.
_
You enter the Principal’s office to find a very nervous-looking Seokmin standing next to the Principal. “Good Morning, Mr. Han. Is something wrong?” “Yes, good morning Y/N. I’ve just received a complaint from a parent, and as the head of science teachers, I’d like you to look into it once.” “Of course.”
Then you turn towards Seokmin, who is standing very upright, but you can see him nervously twitching his feet. “Seokmin-ssi, is the parent here in school, or have you received a written complaint?” Seokmin’s voice is barely audible the first time he speaks, so you take a couple of steps to be closer to him. “Don’t be so nervous. Please tell me everything so that I can help resolve this.” He looks at you, his eyes still wide, and the tension obvious in his face. But he takes a deep breath and says, “They’re here, in my science classroom.” “And can you tell me the gist of the matter?” “I… I… I had asked her daughter to not draw with crayons on the walls of the science classroom. And one time… I’d asked her daughter to bring more nutritious food to class instead of chips every single day.” He says softly, his eyes focused on the blue linoleum tiles on the floor. You take a deep breath. As you’ve grown more senior, you’ve eventually detached yourself from the classes of the youngest students, those below four years of age. So naturally, you’d not gotten into messes like this for a long time. But with your experience, you know just how to deal with such cases.
So you excuse yourself from the office and walk down to Seokmin’s homeroom, gesturing him to enter as you both walk into the classroom. It is deserted, except for a very grim-looking gigantic woman standing next to a tiny girl with even tinier braids. “Good morning. I’m Y/L/N Y/N, Head of the Science Department.” “Yes, well, I’m hoping you’d be more competent about it all rather than Mr. Lee here.”
You forcefully smile tightly and ask, “Please let me know the details of the matter.” “Where do I begin! Mr. Lee has been… very dictatorial with my daughter. First he forbids her from colouring, and then he forces her to starve herself! It’s absolutely ridiculous that a teacher can do such things!” Out of the corner of your eye, you see Seokmin shrink further away into the corner, his eyes wide.
“Based on how well I know Mr. Lee, I can’t imagine him forcing a child to starve themselves. Correct me if I’m wrong, but did he ask her to bring a different set of food for lunch, rather than chips?” “Yes, but-” “And that was purely based on nutritional concerns, Ma’am. As teachers at Sebong Elementary School, we want to ensure our students receive proper nutrition at their growing age. And I can assure you that chips are not the most nutritious food your daughter can eat every day.” “I’m a working mother-” “I’m sure you can buy a fruit or toast a single slice of bread along with a slice of cheese along with the chips, if you’re so busy.”
The woman in front of you stands speechless for a second, before continuing in her boisterous tone, “But who are you to dictate what I feed my child?” “Nobody, truly. But Mr. Lee is a kindhearted man, who cares for every child in this school, and even his colleagues and peers like me. As a teacher, he has the best interest of his students in mind, you see.” “Certainly can’t be more than that of her mother.” “Of course, which is why I’d advise you too, as would any other paediatrician, that only chips is not the diet a four-year old child should be exposed to on a daily basis.”
The woman takes a step back. Her grip on her daughter’s fingers loosen, and the child takes a step forward. “Miss, I really like the grapes Mr. Lee gave me the other day! That’s why I’ve stopped eating Eomma’s lunch!” She smiles at you, and you bend down on your knee to meet her at eye level. “Is that so? But darling, you should always eat what your mummy’s giving you. Good girls don’t skip meals, understood?” She nods her little head very seriously, so you pat her once on her head. Then you stand up again and look at her mother. “I see your daughter does enjoy eating grapes. Perhaps you could buy her some fruits for lunch.”
She tilts her head a little bit, looking fully like a kid who’s been punished for being too outspoken, and honestly you’re glad to have made that effect. Some people can be so entitled and so rude, and it leaves such a harsh impression on softer teachers like Seokmin. Which is exactly what you see when the parent does leave with her child a few minutes later, as the man, who hasn’t spoken a single word since entering the room, comes up to you gingerly.
“Noona, thank you so much. I was so- so scared.” You smile at him as warmly as you can, “Please don’t be. It wasn’t your fault at all that some parents can misunderstand even the best intentions of teachers. It’s pretty common- as time goes on, people will just find more flaws, whether it be in your teaching skills or your child-handling skills. You just need to be less nervous when things like this happen. If you ever need help in these things, of course I’m always here… as are your other seniors. But it’s best if you learn to handle these things without taking them too much to your heart, unless you see there is genuine room for improvement for you.” He nods throughout, and his eyes have become round like a puppy’s eyes again. “I will introspect, Noona.” He laughs a bit, “This honestly isn’t the first time someone’s misunderstanding my intentions. But I will try harder to be more clear and not … not be presumptuous,” he says, looking deep into your eyes, before he bows and leaves the room.
As you stand there in the classroom, alone you realise that the situation oddly reminds you of a similar conversation you had with him at the beginning of the semester. When you’d asked him to keep his distance and not interfere … all while, he was just trying to be kind. Oh god. You’d been just as rude as the parent had been today, hadn’t you? Oh dear god. No wonder he’d looked so downcast and rejected after that.
_
Sohee’s thousand-day anniversary at the school is coming up so Minseo’s put on a surprise party at her house. It’s not a surprise to just Sohee, but also to you. “Oh, why didn’t you let me know earlier, Minseo-yah?” “We would, but you’ve just been so busy with the end of term reports and grades that we didn’t want to bother you.” “Well, that’s not something only I’m doing. I’m sure you all were busy too.” “But none of us are head of departments, you know?” She giggles, and you know it’s not a jibe. But it still feels bad to not be able to contribute when everyone is contributing in some way or the other.
So you order a six-pound blueberry cheesecake for the party, knowing blueberry to be Sohee’s favourite flavour. And, as expected, it’s a party hit. It turns out to be the favourite flavour of a lot of people, even Seokmin, who helps himself to three slices, and you’re just glad to see them all enjoying it. There’s drinks, pizza and music playing in the background. And although the teacher community at Sebong Elementary School is not too big, you’re a lot of twenty-six people, and you’re thankful that Minseo comes from a rich family that has a big house. And yet, it feels cosy and familiar. You barely attend parties or social gatherings,  and unless it’s family occasions, having been out of the dating scene for years. But this type of party seems fun to you- perhaps it’s you growing old, perhaps it’s you no longer finding staying up late exciting, perhaps it’s you realising that getting wasted is not as interesting as you used to think it was in college. So you settle for being the woman who’s dressed in a sweater although it’s barely autumn, already mentally classified as a spinster for almost everyone you meet, thirty and with no life outside of work, and you’re happy. You’re happy right now, sipping a cocktail and eating the fried chicken Minseo’s airfrying and constantly supplying to the party, celebrating your closest friend, Sohee. You know that although Sohee’s a couple of months younger than you, and definitely has a more active love life, she’s just like you at heart, and she’s the sister you’ve never had. As she gets drunk (you can tell it’s the first time in a long time by the way she’s getting tipsy even faster than she usually does), she leans over to smooch you loudly on the cheek, and you laugh and give in to her. It creates a loud wave of cheers across the room, but it’s such a warm moment. She clinks her glass with yours and rests her head on your shoulder, while raising a toast to the teachers at Sebong Elementary School. There’s another round of cheers, and then your phone reminds you it’s ten pm, and you should be heading home because it’s a school day tomorrow. The buzz feels good, and you want to stay longer, but you’re not drunk enough to forget your responsibilities. And so the party gradually disperses. You hug Minseo and thank her for organising the wonderful party, and somehow Sohee manages to stand up on her feet steadily. Seungkwan takes the duty to drop Sohee home as he lives near her house, and before you can say anything, Seokmin takes on the responsibility of dropping you home.
“I don’t want to impose-” “But I insist, Y/N Noona.” “Why do you always insist, Seokmin? I feel like I’m a burdensome sunbae, not a nice sunbae.” You try not to pout when he leads you to where his car is parked and opens the door for you. He giggles, his face red with the dopamine (and drinks) from the party. “You’re just fishing for compliments, Noona. You know I never think of taking care of you as a burden.”
Perhaps drinking that third cocktail was a mistake.
But you did drink it, so you lean over the centre console of the car and say, with a soft giggle, “If you say things like that, Seokmin-ah, people are going to misunderstand and think you like like me.”
“But I do like like you, Noona.”
You almost miss his words while waving goodbye to the other teachers standing on the pavement in front of Minseo’s house, waiting for their rides.
Almost.
“What?” You spin your head so fast it gives you whiplash, and you feel like you’re instantly sober, the way you become alert instantly. Seokmin’s looking at the road as he drives into the main road, his eyes bright by reflecting the street lights. “I do, Noona.”
“No- no, you can’t. Are you serious, Seokmin-ah? Because if you are, you can’t.”
“Why?”
There’s a red light, and he’s looking at you, the street lights shining on his face and the gentle handsomeness of his features are glowing in their full glory. This isn’t the first time you’ve found him awe-strikingly beautiful, but right now, he looks positively angelic. His eyelashes form delicate shadows on his cheeks, and the way his hair gets swayed by the wind coming in from the open car windows makes him seem even prettier.
“Because… you’re so… young. And fresh, and beautiful. And I’m thirty, I spend my days working and my nights reading romantic classics, and I’m so boring a-and you deserve better.”
His mouth twists bitterly, and he says, “But none of that is true, Noona.”
“It is, Seokmin-ah. You barely know me.”
“But I want to. I’m just asking for a chance.”
You stay silent for a long time. In the sparse traffic of the night, you’re reach your house quicker than you’d thought.
“I don’t want you to make a mistake, Seokmin-ah. I shouldn’t be someone you like more than simply as a sunbae.”
He pauses, then replies, “If you don’t want to give me a chance, that’s okay Noona. I can make peace with it. But you can’t ask me to stop liking you, Noona. My feelings are mine.”
You don’t say anything on the rest of the journey. You don’t have anything else to say. You can’t even be harsh to him because what he’s saying is logical. You cannot take away his right to like you, even if you don’t think it’s the right choice for him. You’re an adult, he’s an adult, you both have your own opinions and choices.
It’s only when the car does reach your house that you attempt to say something.
“I feel sorry for making you come all the way to my house to drop me. Do you want to come in to eat something? I had some dakgalbi made for tonight’s dinner before I got to know about the party.”
He looks at you for a long time. You can see the wheels turn in his head, before he says, “Okay.”
_
Your flat is on the third floor, so you’re patiently climbing the stairs. Seokmin makes light conversation, breaking the ice, and you actively try to respond. You don’t want him to feel dejected, but you also don’t want to feel like you’re taking him to your house because you pity him after you outright rejected him.
Your efforts go to waste when you see a figure sitting on the floor in front of the door to your apartment.
“Hyungwon?”
Seokmin pauses behind you, as you stand stunned on the last staircase before the landing, and the man you addressed looks up at the two of you. Even in the dim light of the single bulb lighting up the stairwell, you can see that he’s very wasted. “Y/N-ah! I- I’ve been waiting for you.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Oh, you haven’t changed, have you? Straight to the point. No hellos, no-”
“Yes, Hyungwon. What are you doing here?”
He sighs as he stands up. “I missed you.”
Your head starts to spin. It’s like you’ve been transported back to 2022, when Hyungwon had confessed to you that he’d gambled away all your money, and that he’d been doing so for the last seven months, and that was where he was spending all his evenings at instead of the evening college you’d enrolled him into and whose fees you thought you’d been paying.
Your head spins again, and you’re stumbling back until someone catches you midway before you tumble down the stairs.
“Noona!” that someone whispers in alarm in your ear, and you realise it’s Seokmin.
Fuck.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, not Seokmin.
Why does Seokmin, out of all people, have to see this?
“Seokmin-ah, leave-”
“Ooh, who’s that?” Hyungwon takes a step closer, and takes a drink out of a soju bottle he’s holding in his left hand. “Boyfriend? You’re still into pretty boys, aren’t you?”
Seokmin pulls you closer to him, your back nearly touching his chest. “Who are you?”
“I’m Hyungwon, Y/N’s first love. You better get out of here, kid.”
“What do you want, Hyungwon? Don’t bullshit with me about missing me. No apology, no regrets, and now you’re suddenly at my doorstep?” You carefully break away from Seokmin’s gentle clasp, and walk towards your ex-boyfriend. “You want my money again.” The lanky man in front of you grins, that fucking lazy, pretty grin you’d fallen so hard for in college.
“Y/N, where’s the love gone, jagi? Why are we talking about money?”
“Fuck off, Hyungwon. The love was gone long before I even broke up with you.”
He lifts his free hand and tries to reach out to you. “Jagiya-”
“I’m not your jagiya! Hyungwon, I’m not giving you anymore money, so you should just leave! And stop coming to me every time you want money, for god’s sake! We’re done, Hyungwon.”
The man in front of you falls to his knees, “Please, I’m begging you, Y/N-ah! I’ll get into serious trouble if I don’t repay this debt by the end of this month! Y/N, for the sake of old times-”
“Hyungwon, please don’t! I’m not giving you any of my money, no matter how much you beg.”
His hand wraps around your leg, “Y/N-ah, please, just hear me out once! I am sorry for everything I did, and I’m so willing to amend my ways-”
“Please leave, Hyungwon-ssi, you’re making Noona uncomfortable.” Seokmin suddenly says from behind you, and you walk backward down the stairs until you’re again close enough to him that you can feel his body heat on your back. It makes you feel oddly safe.
“Who are you to say anything about Y/N, huh? You don’t even know her for long, I bet! Y/N and I dated for seven years!”
“It doesn’t matter how long I’ve known her, Hyungwon-ssi. What matters is that right now, she feels safe with me, and not around you. So please leave, Hyungwon-ssi.” You don’t even realise when his hands have come to wrap gently around you, not quite touching your body, but caging you away from the man who’s looking at you both with frantic and desperate eyes. You don’t know he knows that you’re feeling safe around him, but you’re so grateful. “If you don’t leave now, I’ll have to call the police, Hyungwon-ssi.”
The man in front of you gulps. “Fuck! I’ll be back, Y/N-ah. And then I’ll see where this boyfriend of yours will be!” And he storms down the stairs, cursing under his breath, and you’re still shaking in Seokmin’s grip.
Five minutes pass before he asks you, gently whispering in your ear, “Are you okay?”
“Yes.” You slowly turn around and face him. You’re awfully close to him, and as you stand on the higher staircase, you’re eye-to-eye with him. “I’m so sorry you had to see that, Seokmin-ah.”
“No, Noona. I’m just upset thinking of what would happen if I hadn’t come up with you here tonight.”
“No, don’t be. He’s… harmless. He’s all talk and no action.”
“Has he been here before?”
You bite your lip. You don’t want to tell him things which will involve him deeper into this. He doesn’t know anything, he’s a complete stranger to it all, and yet, he is right, you do feel safe around him. But that doesn’t mean you burden him any further.
“Seokmin-ah, I don’t want you to get worried about this. I can take care of myself, it’s just Hyungwon. Like I said, he’s only bark and no bite.”
“Noona-”
“I’ll be fine, honestly! I’m sorry you had to see all this happen.”
He opens his mouth to say something, but then he becomes silent again.
“Do you want to come in-”
“No, Noona. I’ll just leave. I won’t take any more of your time. Have a good night, Noona.”
“Seokmin-ah, pl-”
“Goodnight, Noona. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
And then he walks away, and you’re left there, unarmed, uneasy and all alone, swimming in your own thoughts. You feel like you should run after him like in the movies, and stop him from leaving, but your legs feel like lead. There’s a sinking feeling in your heart and a sense of emergency, and it’s not because your ex-boyfriend came up to your door asking for money to waste again.
_
You don’t go to school the next day. The day after that is a Saturday, thankfully a holiday, and you can spend a day moping in regret, stuffing popcorn into your face and pretending like you’re not an adult anymore and you can live without worrying about responsibilities and keep time standing still.
It doesn’t work.
Sohee arrives to your door on Sunday morning, sunglasses perched on her head. “Where have you been, sweetie?” She doesn’t wait for you to respond and shoves herself into your flat.
“Nowhere, Sohee.”
“You’re pouting, your bed isn’t made, and I can smell caramel popcorn. Something’s up. Tell me, baby.”
She sits down on the couch, pulling you down next to her, and taps twice on your shoulder prompting you to spill. So you do spill.
You tell her every thought that has crossed your mind these last 48 hours. How Seokmin confessed that he likes you. How you’d turned him down instantly. How Hyungwon had turned up at your door and ruined the night after the party. How you’d practically shooed Seokmin away although he’d been nothing but protective and helpful to you. How you’d wallowed in regrets since then, having realised that you’re such a coward.
“Yeah, you are a coward. In what right mind would you turn down Seokmin when you’re so down bad for him?”
“Huh?”
“Dummy. You can’t even realise your own feelings, and you act like you’re so mature. Age is truly just a number,” she sighs before digging into your bowl of popcorn.
“I don’t… I don’t have feelings for Seokmin.”
“What makes you think so?”
“He’s… he’s just a hoobae.”
“So are Chan and Soonyoung and Seungkwan. Why do you always blush when you talk to Seokmin, even if it’s over something as mundane as lunch? Why do you so often go to his classroom and aid him in his lessons during your free periods, even though he doesn’t necessarily ask for it? Why do you talk more to him than to your other hoobaes?”
You stay silent for a second.
“Y/N-ah, think carefully about this.”
“I shouldn’t think of him in this light… he’s so much younger.”
“You’re just three years older than him, Y/N! Stop acting like you’re so old!”
“But…”
“Oh fuck, this isn’t about age, is it? You feel like you’re going to be to him what Hyungwon became to you? Predatory?”
You’re left silent again. Sohee understands from your (lack of) actions, and jumps across the couch to hug you. “Oh, Y/N-ah. Stop beating yourself up for that. It’s been so, so long. Stop blaming yourself for something that’s not even your fault.”
“But Seokmin deserves better, don’t you think?”
“And you deserve better than beating yourself over an ex like Hyungwon. You deserve a second chance at love too, baby.” She hugs you tightly, and you don’t know when tears have started rolling down your cheek.“I’m a coward, Sohee. I can’t get the courage to even accept my feelings.” “Then let Seokmin help you. Honestly, with the way he always looks at you like you spin his earth and you’re his god, I don’t think he’ll have any issues waiting for you to realise your feelings.” You blush and hide your face in her neck at her sly words. She’s too outspoken for her own good.
“What if it’s just a crush for him, that’ll pass soon? There’s not much about me that will keep him interested in me after a few months.”
“You’ve got to stop being so pessimistic. Again, just because one guy was stupid and decided to rip off your hard-earned money and your blind trust in him, doesn’t mean another guy will! I’ll say it again, you deserve a second chance!”
The doorbell rings right then. You get up to open the door, to find a letter on the doormat.
“It’s from the local police station.” You pick it up and show Sohee, who’s equally confounded as you are. “Well, open it, girl!”
It’s a letter stating a level one restraining order has been requested for your protection against Chae Hyungwon, who has repeatedly disturbed you while drunk, and demanded money for illegal gambling purposes.
And the request has been made from Lee Seokmin.
“So you just have to sign it and that’s it? Hyungwon out from your life forever?”
You nod, unable to reply, you’re still shocked by the letter. So is Sohee, it seems. Because all she can manage is, “Wow. Y/N, you’ve gotta marry him.”
“Who?!”
“Seokmin, of course. If this is his level of devotion-”
“You don’t think this was unnecessary?”
“Y/N, are you for real? He’s literally looking out for you and doing what you should’ve done ages back, and you think he’s overstepping boundaries? He’s one gem of a person seeing that he’s doing all this without even you prompting him and even after you literally rejected his confession.”
You take a deep breath. She’s right. She’s so right that your heart hurts and you want to bend down on your knees because your body feels limp. How much more does Seokmin have to give you for you to be able to start giving back to him? One voice in your head chastises you. Love isn’t quid pro quo! You fight back. Fair. But at least you’ve started admitting it is love. The voice laughs at you, leaving you vulnerable.
“Well, he said yes.”
“What?” You spin your head to look at Sohee who’s holding your phone in her hand.
“Seokmin. He said he’ll meet you at the park near school. In about an hour.”
“Did you just text him from my phone?”
“I did, for your own good. Because if it were up to you, you would have overthought yourself into a hole you’d dig for yourself and not made a move at all even when he’s literally played all his cards and proved his commitment.”
“Aishh, you’re so annoying,” you playfully shove her.
“Your annoying friend just wants to see you happy,” she pouts cutely, and you laugh at the face she’s making.
“Okay, now go get dressed. You have to finish this game now, Y/N. I’ll drop you to the park.”
_
When Sohee drops you a little far away from the park, kissing your forehead and wishing you fighting!, you find Seokmin already sitting on a bench on a relatively empty side of the park. He looks up at you as you get closer, and you wave at him. You feel so timid, so nervous, just walking up to him, his handsomeness hitting you with full force as you see him in more casual clothes than ever before, knowing that this man, this beautiful man likes you. And he wants you, and he’s proved how far he can go to care for you, even when you’ve rejected his care.
“Noona, how are you? We were worried after you called your day off on Friday.”
“I’m sorry… I wasn’t sick or anything.” You laugh awkwardly. “Just, taking some time to ponder over things myself.”
“Oh.” He sits down on the bench, the loose end of his checked shirt gently swaying in the breeze.
“And I regret how I acted that night. I’m sorry for being so harsh-” he starts to say something, but you gently put a finger on his hand, and that makes him shush. “I’m not just talking about Thursday night. I’ve been harsh to you ever since the beginning of the year. You’ve been nothing but kind and generous to me. But… time has made me unnaturally wary and I find it so hard to accept attention or even kindness easily. Thus, time and again I’ve pushed you away, yet you’ve kept coming back. It’s true that I didn’t realise your intentions earlier, but I know, deep down in my heart, that I’ve liked you too for quite some time.”
His eyes are wide, and you move an inch closer to him on the bench.
“I thought it was silly, to have a crush on a man so obviously young like you. I’m thirty now, turning thirty-one in a few weeks. I’ll always be older than you, less energetic, more boring and to be honest, I think it’s not even age but just experience which has made me like this. And I denied myself your attention because I thought you deserved better. And I still do. You sent a restraining request to the police on my ex-boyfriend on my behalf. You… you’ve gone out of your way so many times, even when I’ve been so harsh with you. You’re the one who’s precious, you’re made out of stardust. I’m just a broccoli that’s stacked in the corner of the fridge because no one wanted to eat me when I was fresh and no one should eat me now because now I’m stale.”
“That’s a ridiculous comparison. Even Soonyoung comparing himself to a tiger is better than you comparing yourself to a broccoli.” He finally says, and you laugh before you realise it.
“Stop calling yourself old, Noona. Three years of an age difference isn’t a big deal. If the reason you’re holding yourself back is Hyungwon-ssi…”
“It is, I won’t lie. Hyungwon and I started dating when we were in college. We were so good, for so long. Until the pandemic came and took his job. That’s when he started getting into these bad habits. He took to gambling, and to stop him, I enrolled him into an evening college, hoping he’d get more productive and use the time we were stuck at home to get himself more educated and get a better job soon. It turned out he was wasting all my money on gambling, again. Every fees I’d paid to him had actually gone down the drain at a local club. And he even had the audacity to refuse me when I told him I want to break up with him.”
“Well, but he eventually did. That didn’t stop him from coming to my doorstep ever three or four months, asking for cash. Sometimes I’d drive him away, sometimes I’d give in if I was too tired to argue with him and if he was sober and dangerous.”
“Would you have given him money that night… had I not been there?”
You look down at your hands in shame. “I may have. I don’t know.”
“Do you still have feelings for him, Noona? It’s okay if you do have feelings, you know.”
“God, no. I don’t have feelings for him. It’s just that… we were together for seven years. We’ve grown up together. Seeing him in a pitiful state like that makes me sad. And I hope each time, that this will be the last time he’s at my door asking for money.” You look away, too ashamed to look at Seokmin. But he uses a hand to gently grip your chin and turn your head towards him.
“You’re too kind for your own good, Noona.” You blush at the proximity, and the gentle way he’s touching your face. “This is why I like you. Because you’re so human in a world where everyone is plastic. I don’t like you because you’re a sunbae I want to impress. I don’t like you because boys like me find older women hot. Well, I do find you hot-”
“Seokmin!” You haven’t heard someone call you hot in so long, and it makes your skin burn.
He giggles, and slowly flattens his palm to cup your cheek.
“I think the restraining order should do the trick, then. He’ll not harass you any longer.”
“Thank you. You’ve been brave when I’ve been a coward.”
“That’s what makes us a good team, Noona.”
You finally make eye contact with him, gazing into his doe-like brown eyes which are crinkled at the edges with a hint of a smile and wide with hope.
“Your eyes are so pretty, Seokmin-ah. Just like the rest of you. Especially your heart.”
“It’s pretty because it belongs to you, Noona.”
You blush harder, and turn your face away from him. “I’ll not like you any more if you’re cheesy like this.”
“But it feels good to make you blush like this. How dare you compare yourself to a broccoli, huh? You have no idea what you do to me- when you enter any room, you light it up with your aura, you make it so much warmer, so much brighter. And then a fucking broccoli?”
“Stop! I didn’t mean it to be so deep. It’s just what I ate for lunch because that’s all I had in my fridge.” He giggles again, and you giggle along with him. You realise you’ve both moved closer to each other on the bench, until your thighs are touching.
“Then you’ve got to have lunch again. No one should exist by eating just broccoli.”
“With you?”
“If you’d like that.” He cups your other cheek with another hand, and you can feel your skin on fire. His eyes are gently inching towards your lips so you slowly close your eyes. “If you’re going to kiss me, know that I don’t have much experience in that. I’ll be your hoobae in that regard, sunbae.” You hear a soft giggle, and the kiss doesn’t arrive, so you open your eyes again, just to see him blush all over. “God, you’re so pretty, Noona. I could look at you all day.”
“How about you tell me when you started liking me?”
“Umm, I think that time you came to eat lunch with us for the first time? I think it all started with me just trying to get you to eat meals on time. Good girls don’t skip meals, as I heard someone once say,” you playfully hit his chest lightly, and he laughs. “I don’t know, maybe it was before that. But that afternoon, I realised my crush on you was so serious. I was getting tingly all over every time our shoulders touched.”
“Oh! Well, thank goodness it wasn’t just me.”
“Really? From so long ago? Oh, Noona, if you’d just told me earlier…”
“Shh!” You giggle, “I didn’t even realise anything. I was just desperate to get you to forgive me.”
“But I was never angry at you. I could never be.”
You smile again, and he pulls you closer until your entire body is touching him. “So are you giving me a chance, Noona?”
“Yes. I like you, Lee Seokmin, and I’m still shocked that you like me, after everything you’ve had to see.”
“Well, I do. I like you so much that I might be seeing stars over your head every time you come into my line of sight.”
You giggle again, your insides turning to mush. “Will you be my girlfriend, Y/N Noona?” His voice is, oh, so soft, like a melody. And his eyes so earnest, like an autumn leaf. “I’d be very honoured to, Seokmin-ah.” “May I kiss you?” You feel yourself getting red with anticipation as you quietly nod your consent.
And so he kisses you. Like your very own Prince Charming, he kisses you, one hand on the back of your neck, and the other cupping onto your cheek, first gentle and slow, and then a little more passionate, as you pull him closer by holding on to his slender waist. “Fuck, Noona. You taste so sweet,” he says while taking a breath, and then attacks your face all over by placing tiny pecks all over your nose, cheeks and forehead. “I like you so much, I think I might die from it.” You laugh once again at his words, unable to say anything else because he’s effectively shut you up through his incessant kisses. When he finally moves his face away from yours, his 1000 watt signature smile bright on his face, you say to him, “Not before we have lunch together, though.”

Waking up to the sun beaming down on your boyfriend’s face was quite simply the best thing in the world. The way his rosy cheeks shone brighter under the direct sunlight, making his every feature pop was something you’d grown to adore more and more since he started staying at your apartment.
Ever since his injury all those weeks ago, he’d needed assistance with a lot of basic needs and you were more than happy to help. If anything, it was a bonus for you as it meant you spent all your free time together. Which was something you hadn’t had the luxury of in the two years since you’d started dating.
With a soft sigh, you quietly begin to pull yourself out of bed, only for a warm hand to pull you back. A quiet giggle escapes your lips as you turn to face the tan man. His sleepy face was adorned with a sly grin as his eyes stayed shut.
“Pedri…” You drawl, a knowing smile on your face. “I have to make breakfast and feed Meimi!” Just as you say that, you hear a distant meow outside your door, only further proving your point.
Despite knowing you have duties to attend to, the thought of missing out on a few more minutes of cuddling was a struggle you faced daily.
Pedri pouts, his eyes slowly fluttering open. “Please?” He says in his upmost pouty tone, once again something you’d grown accustomed to in the past month.
“How about…” You tap your bottom lip, feigning to think, “I make us breakfast and feed Mei, then I come back here and we eat breakfast in bed? We can cuddle and be lazy for the rest of the day. How does that sound?”
The tan man’s pout deepens at the idea, nodding his head reluctantly with a long sigh. “I guess I can wait a little longer.”
Rolling your eyes, you stare at him for a moment, admiring everything that was your boyfriend. From the dark circles under his eyes, to his perfectly pink lips, to his hair that slightly curls at the ends. He was everything you’d ever loved and so much more.
You groan as you give in, fully laying back down and tugging the corners of the bedspread back around you. Pedri doesn’t try to suppress the smirk that began growing on his lips as he pulls you closer, letting your head rest on his shoulder.
As you lay with your bodies intertwined, he places a soft kiss to your forehead. “Thank you.” He murmurs, his hands drawing unknown shapes on your hip.
“You’re annoying.” You huff, although the slight twitch to your lips gives you away.

Rewrite the stars
Pairing: Sirius black x reader
Summary: you and Sirius have been in love since you were mere teenagers, but life seems to have other plans for the both of you.
Warning: angst and heartbreak
AN: I hope this makes you cry because I cried writing it. This was supposed to be a song fic but I don’t know how I feel about making characters sing I feel so awkward writing it so this is what it ended up as.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your life had been damned since the day you were born. At a young age you Sirius and regulus would sit in the garden under the stars as you rambled on about random things. “I think our lives are written out in the stars.” You said laying on your back. Sirius and regulus turned to you “how do you mean?” Sirius asked, regulus hummed along as he always does, he’s the more quiet out of the three of you. You smiled looking at the stars with so much adoration “we all have a destiny right? I believe it was written in the stars, and we just cant read it how we would if it was in a book” seven year old you said. “I think each star represents one person's destiny, that’s why some shine brighter than others”. Sirius smiled “do you think were written in the stars?” He asked, causing regulus to sit up, also wondering. You giggled “I don’t know silly, that’s kind of the point.” You said, “but, i like to think we are” you said pointing to the brightly shining row of three stars. Two closer together than the other.
Now ten years later you sat alone at the end of the slytherin table, body rigid, just as anyone’s would be these days. But for you especially, you were terrified, and the only person who could bring you out of that headspace was sitting across the room with his longtime group of friends. You stared at him, the light in his eyes made you envious, angry that your eyes no longer shone like that. But it made you happy that he got out, out of this life. At least one of you had. You and regulus hadn’t been able to, now your parents are forcing you into a marriage. You and regulus are best friends with no romantic feelings for eachother whatsoever. But your parents had not one care and had been best friends with his parents since they were young and in hogwarts themselves. The deal had been set in stone some before you were born. Except it was supposed to be with Sirius. “Your staring again” You hadn’t noticed when regulus had sat down but you were happy he broke your trance before you had the chance to humiliate yourself yet again.
“Have i ever told you how grateful i am for you” you joked, though your tone had nothing humorous about it. He filled his plate not even looking up at you “not nearly enough as you should, but yes” he answered. You huffed out a laugh “yeah well i am” regulus hummed, like he did since you were kids. You never really minded that he was quiet, more so because you were too but also because it left you alone with your thoughts. “You should eat, you’ve been doing a lot less of that lately” he said pushing a plate towards you. You sighed looking down at the plate of food you weren’t even aware he prepared. You ate a little over half of the food before you felt eyes on you.
immediately you knew where it was coming from. You looked across the room, meeting eyes with this brown ones your heart longed to wake up every morning to. You longed to be with him so bad it made your chest hurt physically. The only thing that had kept you going so far were the meetings you had in a room you didn’t know existed until Sirius caught you walking alone in the halls and dragged you to it.
He nodded his head slightly, and you nodded back. That was the confirmation that you’d meet tonight after dinner. You broke eye contact with him and looked to the darke he aired curly head in front of you who’s head was down as he read his book while eating. “Can you cover for me again?” You asked. His eyes looked up at you from his heads lowered position. Rolling his eyes he nodded “just don’t stay out as late again” he said. You smiled “regulus black you are a gift sent straight from heaven” you joked before finishing your food.
Now it’s around 11:00 at night and you and regulars were finishing your rounds around the school. Somehow (very obvious how) you both had been elected as prefects. So you had a little more freedom after the other kids went to bed. You not to subtly parted from regulus, when you reached the corridor that lead to the room you and Sirius had been meeting in.
When you arrived he was already there in all of his glory. He was sat with his head down and brown locks covered his face. You guessed he hadn’t heard you come in because hes head remained down. “Siri?” You spoke, his head immediately shot up, his brown eyes slightly wide. “Are you okay?” You asked, he nodded standing up to walk toward you. “I’m fine, love” he confirmed. Your heart soared at the nickname.
he grabbed your hand softly and just held it examining your face with soft eyes. “I- i have a crazy, probably very idiotic idea.” He murmured, you giggled “you have a lot of those” you joked lightly, “i know i do” he laughed but his expression quickly grew serious “But i want you to hear me out”
the air in the room grew tense, “Sirius what are you on about?” You asked, growing worried. There were very few scenarios where Sirius was actually serious ‘Ironic’. Worry etched onto your face, and Sirius saw that. He leaned in to kiss your forehead bringing his hands to hold the back of your head. His lips were soft and gentle as always. He pulled away but the tip of his nose was still grazing your hairline “come live at the potters with me” he said. Your heart dropped, you pulled away to see if he was toying with you. He wasn’t, his expression mirrored determination. “You must be joking” you muttered, still not believing the words that slipped through his soft lips. He shook his head “i'm not”.
you pulled away completely, turning away from him while running a hand through your hair, your heart raced with anxiety at the mere thought of it. Puting all of these people in danger. “Sirius, that is absolutely insane, even for you. I mean you can't possibly have thought this through” you stressed. He rushed toward you and quickly but gently turned you face him again. “I have i swear” he defended. You shook your head “you cant have. All of the people that would endanger. All of your friends, regulus, you, me?” You listed. “I’ve talked to James and his parents, love they miss you. I miss you” he begged. You frowned tears filling your eyes “and I you, but you know the lengths my parents will go to keep me under their control, and regulus, i can't just leave him.”
“We can bring him too” you laughed incredulously at his statement. “You and regulus have barely spoken a word to each other since you left home” you stated. A silence covered the room like a blanket, both of you not sure what to say “i would do… anything… to have you back” he murmured, his eyes were glossy and full of tears. “I would too, but i guess we weren’t written in the stars” you mumbled, not trusting your voice to speak at full volume.
At that moment you could see recognition and hurt flash in his eyes. The reminder of that night all that time ago, when he’d asked you if the two of you were written in the stars. So much had changed since then and you wasn’t sure when it all started and you hated that it had to be this way but you had to protect him.
Sirius then dropped down to his knees, grabbing bit of your hands “Y/n please. I am begging you, come with me. We can protect each other, we’ll run away and hide” his voice shook as tears flowed freely down his face. You held back a sob, tears clouded your vision and all you could see was a muddy outline of him. “There is not a place in this planet that they wouldn’t find me, if I go I’m a danger to you all and I won’t let that happen.” You cried, Sirius dropped his head against your lower stomach and cried, you felt his tears soaking your sock.
You joined him on your knees resting your head on his shoulder, and he rested his on yours. “There is nothing I want more than to spend the rest of my life with you. To have children and watch them grow up. To see them off to Hogwarts every year. Nothing.” You whispered broken.
“But we can’t” Sirius finished for you, you nodded “but we can’t” you repeated almost inaudibly. After a while of sitting in each other's embrace Sirius lifted his head from your shoulder, causing you to lift yours. You took in his broken expression. red eyes, rosy cheeks and nose, and you were sure he was doing the same to you. “Kiss me, before we part ways Sirius please” you begged, you would’ve felt pathetic begging for anyone else but Sirius was different. You were meant to be, just maybe not in this life.
He gently placed his hands on your cheeks, thumbs rubbing your skin “are you sure?” He asked. You nodded frantically, “yes just please” your tone pleaded. He nodded with a soft smile, he began to lean in and your breath hitched, you could feel your body tingling from excitement and desire. You were sure your cheeks were red from how hot your face felt. When his lips met yours butterflies erupted in your stomach. His lips were soft and you could taste hints of honey from the chapstick he wore all the time. Your lips moved in unison almost like a practiced routine. Your hands found his hair and the kiss deepened, nothing harsh you just poured your hearts into this one kiss. You pulled away, feeling your chest tightening from the lack of breath.
You both breathed heavily in efforts to catch your breath, your eyes eventually met, and the air released all tension. “I’m glad we did that,” he whispered. “Me too,” you replied with a smile.
“When this war is over and your parents are gone, I’m gonna marry you” he said. You smiled sadly, you both knew the possibility of the good winning the war were slim and your parents dying were even slimmer but it wouldn’t stop you from keeping up hope. “I should go” you forced yourself to say. Sirius frowned. He knew that this was probably your last spontaneous meeting and he wasn’t ready to watch you walk away yet but in all honesty he wouldn’t ever be ready. So he nodded “okay” he said, he didn’t fight or resist and you thanked the heavens above because is he had you weren’t sure you would’ve left. “I love you Sirius black” your voice broke. “And I you y/n l/n”

"Order up!"
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
Walking through the bustling city the other group wanders the streets. “Are you sure they are located here?” “No clue” LTTPY/n spoke as she continued to walk in front of them. “So do you know where we are going?” Legend asked with a hint of irritation in his voice, can’t blame him though, the poor guy has been on his feet for a while now. “Not exactly, but there could be a surprise around every corner” Legend rolls his eyes at the monotone voice LTTPY/n delivered, “A good or bad surprise?” “Eh, 50 50 I say” The boys all share a glance between them all before Warriors speak up.
“Maybe we should find clues on where they might be-” “A bar.” LTTPY/n says, Four tilts his head,  “A bar? How do you know?” LTTPY/n shrugs and turns to meet them, “Just a hunch” The ring on her finger shone brighter than usual.
“So which bar should we start at? There's probably a lot in this city ""This one” She stands in front of the bar door. ‘Tipsy Teapot’ was the name of the bar. She didn’t hesitate to go inside, “Of course we got put with the loopy one” Legend grumbled earning a very small chuckle from Hyrule.
Inside was very noisy, gruff men were inside sharing life stories while drowning themselves in alcohol. “So what made you think they were here of all places? I can understand…Eh- Nevermind that but a bar?” Warrior raised one brow as LTTPY/n shrugs, “Like I said, a hunch, I can feel their presence” “Oh great, she’s loopy and delusional” Legend muttered as he groaned. “Look, we only agreed to help because the old man told us too, not because we wanted because if I had a choice I wouldn’t be here helping you find your little girl squad!” Legend points at LTTPY/n who only stared at him blankly.
“Hey, Don’t be like that. We’re heroes and it’s our job to help those in need” Warrior says, pushing Legend back a bit to give him space but someone had bumped into him…
“Ooops! Sorry sir! That was on me for not noticing– free drink on me!” She grins and she looked an awful lot like a–
“LOZY/n! I knew you were here!” All the tension left as LTTPY/n walked towards the other Y/n, “Oh HI! It’s been a bit since I’ve seen you, LTTPY/n! Hanging out with a new crowd hm?” LOZY/n asked in a cheery tone, “Haven’t you found the rest of us yet? Why are you with a bunch of boys? This is all so confusing!” LOZY/n non stop yapping about anything that came to mind but she was snapped out when LTTPY/n puts her hands on LOZY/n’s shoulders.
“I need you to listen for just a bit, I’ve come to get you back with the help of…” She glances back at the boys and then back at LOZY/n “Them. Now was there anyone else with you and if so, where is she now?” LOZY/n blinks before smiling, pointing over her shoulder to a curtain that says ‘Gambling addicts!’
“Just over that curtain you’ll find FSY/n! Oh–! I got to get back to the orders! I’ll see you around!” LOZY/n pushes past and accidentally bumped into ANOTHER person, Hyrule.
“Oh sorry about…That” LOZY/n eyes widened when she saw Hyrule, Hyrule had flushed cheeks and looked a bit flustered, “It’s fine, really” Hyrule says quietly. LOZY/n giggles and walks past, sparing one more glance over her shoulder and so does Hyrule. Making eye contact before she left to go to the bar.
Only one to witness that was Legend who was giving Hyrule a smug look, “Oh Stop that” Hyrule huffed, Legend was going to tease him a bit more but LTTPY/n spoke up, “You guys coming?” She was already by the curtain with Warriors and Four. Legend shook his head, deadpanning at her “No, we’ll stay here” LTTPY/n only shrugged and went inside, the other two boys following.
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
“AURGH!” A big gruff man threw down his cards in frustration, “Hah! That's another win for me, I swear you’re doing this on purpose but since this is your 7th loss…I say you just suck in general” A familiar (H/C) was seen, her back facing them as the big man glared at her. “Awh, Don’t get all pissy over a shitty move you did~ NOW GIVE ME MY MONEY!” She cackled as one of the guys slid down 5 big bags of rupees. She checks every single one until the fifth where it contains rocks.
“HEY! WHAT’S THIS SHIT DOING IN HERE?!” Her mood changes instantly as she rises from her chair and points at the big man, “We had a deal, asshole.” This earned a smirk from the man, “You think I’ll follow your rules, little girl?” He taunts as he snaps his fingers, his guards standing up, they all tower over her.
She growls in frustration knowing that she couldn’t beat them, however her ear flicked when she heard footsteps, she looked back and saw LTTPY/n, Link and someone else equivalent to her Link.
“LTTPY/n? Link? How the hell did you find me?” FSY/n asked, ignoring the other men and focusing solely on the trio behind her.
“Eh, just a h—“
“Didn’t expect to see you in this department…imagine what your mami will say about this discovery~” Four grins, he couldn’t help but try to get a rise out of his childhood friend.
FSY/n scoffed.
“Of course, come to pester me, have you? Can’t you see I’m doing adult stuff? Something you aren’t quite experienced in…despite having 4 perspectives” she snapped back at him earning a startled expression and he immediately let out a small strained noise.
Warriors somewhat didn’t pay much attention to it and nor did LTTPY/n, Four gave her a look of ‘don’t say anything and I won’t tell your mother’ FSY/n looks at Warriors before looking back, ‘I want an explanation after, deal.’ She gave him a look and soon Warriors spoke.
“Reunions can come later, we need you to come back with us, we’ll regroup you back to your group and—“ “I don’t give two shits about regrouping, not until I get my money!” She points at the man while a scowl.
“Gosh, are all Y/n’s difficult?” Warriors muttered, “she’s just overly difficult” Four muttered back to him earning a slight noise that could be equivalent to a chuckle from LTTPY/n.
“I don’t have to owe you anything, you’re still a baby, how old are you? 14?” The man laughed gruffly, earning FSY/ns eye twitch in annoyance.
“14–14?! I look 14 to you?! I’ll show you!” FSY/n begins to climb onto the table but Four was quick to his feet and tried to gently pull her down.
“Let go of me, Link” she growled, “Is it really worth it? You already have…4 bags of rupees!” “I need the fifth!” FSY/n says, her hands stretching out and clenching as if she’s trying to choke the man from where she is.
“Lemme at him—Lemme at him!”
Four sighed as he settled her back down and she frowned at Four, “I had it under control, idiot.” She grumbled as Four stood behind her so she wouldn’t do anything rational.
“Link do your job and fight for me” FSY/n demands and Four scoffed.
“Are you done your little squabble? I have real work to attend to” The man says, he claps his hands and his guards collect the bags of rupees, “Whoa—Hey! Those are mine!” FSY/n reaches over and grabs one of the bags.
“Oh let the rupees go, Y/n!” Four says, “over my dead body!”
The guard however didn’t let his guard down and managed to shove her off, she stumbled back and grumbled, “you selfish bastard!”
“Once you’re old enough, maybe you’ll understand what real adult stuff is” the man grins, his guards put the bags of rupees in front of him, he nods in approval before looking back up at FSY/n.
FSY/n has a crazed smirk of her own, a vein popping on her forehead, she soon whistled and ducked…a flying tray hits the man square in the face
The curtain flew open for a split second to reveal LOZY/n who grinned and was it the stance of throwing, once the curtain fell down, FSY/n rushed to grab the 4 bags and they all ran off.
“GET THEM!”
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
The small group of 6 were hiding in the alleyway, FSY/n was sitting on the dumpster counting her rupees “6000 rupees? It’ll do” she grumbled, “I’ll take em if you don’t want them” Legend speaks up, FSY/n snarls “Go make your own money, broke ass!” She snaps.
Between the two they banter more, Four watches over them because Fire and Fire don’t mix well—LTTPY/n and Warriors don’t wanna be here…
LOZY/n hummed a tune as she put her hair up in a tidy ponytail, making sure her bangs cover up her eye…
“Ahem” she turns to meet Hyrule again.
“Oh! It’s you!” She smiles, “Yeah, it’s me…” he says sheepishly,
“Sorry for bumping into you earlier—“
“I didn’t mean to get in your way before—“
The two pause and soon burst into a little giggle fit, “Hehe, I’m Y/n…Like the rest of the other Y/n’s…Just call me LOZY/n” she says softly, “My real name is Link…like the others but just call me Hyrule..” he says, glancing away a bit before looking back at her…
“Augh, love makes me sick.” FSY/n grimaced at the sight of them, “Yeah, I bet you haven’t experienced love before because ain’t no way anyone is loving that attitude” Legend retorts.
“Shut it, asshole.”
“I mean…there’s nothing wrong with changing up the attitude—“
“You shut up as well.”

He had no idea why he took in the boys as his own, really. He didn't gove himself any moment to hesitate; it was a decision he made in a second and a real man always stands by his word.
After all, he had given up one of his legs to make sure the two boys could survive longer on the food he gave them. But of course, he hadn't counted that the little red-headed brat would be a self-sacrifical idiot and eat lesser to make sure his little brother got fed.
It wasn't until they were past 70 days on the damned rock when the boy suddenly fell ill.
'You stupid brat! Don't you see that your death does nothing but hurting your brother?' Zeff scolded the child in his mind. Even if he'd say it with words, the boy wouldn't hear him as he kept drifting in and out of consciousness.
There was something the boy had said. One thing that raised the first red flag.
"...y'think...i'll see Mama once I'm gone? A sinner like me...shouldn't go to heaven...like she did."
Sinner. The boy called himself a sinner. From the first time he met him on the restaurant ship, the redheaded boy had fought fiercly, defended his little brother, jumped overboard to save him, sacrificed his share of the food for him, collected morning dew for him...and he called himself a sinner?
Zeff later learned the boy's name was Ichiji.
One o'clock.
The sun was high on the skies when they were saved by a ship.
---
They sure didn't look like it, but apparently they were born on the same day. The tomato-haired boy was twenty minutes older than the eggplant.
"Are you twins or something?" One of the cooks at the Baratie had once asked.
Ichiji took a good three seconds before he answered. "...yes." He simply said before he turned on his heels and continued to passing up the tables, fullfilling his role as the little waiter.
The tomato boy smiled less than the eggplant, there was something haunting in his eyes, he never talked more than necessary and he did his chores without a single complaint.
Sanji's temper was like fire, but Ichiji...was like ice.
However, he had only eyes for his little brother. Everytime Sanji nagged about the All Blue and shone brighter than the sun, Ichiji looked at his baby brother with a soft gaze and a slight smile on his usually cold expression. His permanent frown seemed to have washed away...until he was called back to work.
It was alarming to see that kind of behavior in a child; Ichiji had built walls around himself to protect himself. He didn't trust anyone, that message was clear and he only loved one person in the world; Sanji, his little brother and his other half.
The first time Zeff ever saw that smile aimed at him was when he made spicy seafood pasta for the boys' birthday, celebrating them becoming 11 years old.
"It's really delicious." Ichiji smiled.
Apparently Red-Leg Zeff have two sons now.
Ichiji and Sanji. A tomato can and an eggplant.

You swore that he made it his vow to have a reminder of his existence for your every waking moment. That you wouldn’t spend a day without saying his name or cursing it to the wind.

Everyone in the JAA knew you as the doll.
The living, breathing, epitome of a doll.
A cold-blooded killer.
The executioner without mercy.
A human born with no emotion.
Life hasn’t always been easy for you. To be born in a family of importance meant that you had to grow into somebody worthy enough to be important. To be recognized meant to have a hundred thousand impossible feats under your belt. To be accepted meant that you had to give up all that you were, change every angle, every vision, so you could fit into their ideals. To have been all of that at the same time meant that it left no room for anything else.
No room for sadness, nor happiness.
No room for affection, nor adoration.
No room for warmth, nor love.
No room for you.
So, who does this guy think he was? To shamelessly flaunt his undermining achievement in front of your face as though he held the world in the palm of his hand. Brazen that he was, given that he could easily boast about something you could do with your eyes closed with hands tied behind your back. That he could smile so freely like he did not just brutally murder ten people with nothing but a tiny Swiss knife.
He rose the ranks quickly, far too fast for your liking given that he was a transfer from those wimpy spy department kids. And each time he got closer to where you stand, his smile would glow brighter and brighter… until one day, it shone far more brilliantly than the sun itself.
And you hated that, more so than when your boss would rush you to get the job done a day earlier.
It didn’t deter him in his advances. Why would he relent when he knew you from when your family and his were neighbors? When he would pull at your hair and stare curiously at how your face would never contort to anything beyond that blank slate. Or from when he’d lick your ice cream to see if it tasted different from his despite it being the same flavor. When he’d barge into your room so early in the morning and demand to play with him.
He was a child. An annoyingly obnoxious entitled child.
Even now, as you transcend past a decade and a half into your lives, he remained that same child.
Unrelenting. Motivated in the best way, a pest in the worst.
You swore that he made it his vow to have a reminder of his existence for your every waking moment. That you wouldn’t spend a day without saying his name or cursing it to the wind.
He never left, serving as the sole reminder of all that you’ve forsaken to reach where you are now. Yoichi, the fiend. Yoichi, your neighbor. Yoichi, your first friend.
Many times did he push you to the edge. If he asked you where you were, you’d say you’re at the end of your limit. If he asked you where you live, you’d say in the state of annoyance. If he asked if you how you were, you’d say you’re better off knowing he’d hit the grave early.
Then one day, he asked… if you felt anything for him.
And for the first time in nearly twenty long years of getting on each other’s throats, you found no words to say.
If he asked you about your feelings, what would you say? How would you look at him? Show him the puzzle of words that you yourself found difficulty piecing together.
Many times did he provoke you into doing something, whether it would be through aggravating you to assault, or by giving you these vague questions that leave you pondering them over for days without ever knowing the correct answer.
You wanted to believe you were smart, that your intellectual capabilities were above average—or better, above his. Yet here, in this space between annoyance and familiarity, a sickeningly fragrant flower had begun to bloom… and you didn’t know what to do.
Raised to assassinate, trained to kill. That’s what you were: a killer. There was nothing more.
Was that so wrong? To live life like a machine. It seemed like common sense to you. Because no one ever taught you otherwise. No one gave you a different way to live, showed you a new path to take. Breaking your heart for every life you took looked right. Killing your happiness for the sake of others seemed noble. Giving it all up for the greater good was for the best, wasn’t it?
There was nothing beyond you except for the eyes of a murderer. There was nothing more. So why does he look at you like that? Like you were trapped and drowning, and he wanted to get you out. Like there was an entire world waiting for you behind this wall of ice. Why does Yoichi look at you like that?
You wanted to ask him. Desperately so… why? Why do you look at me, as though you could love me?
And for that one rare moment, you snapped.
Why? You’d say, letting the years of pent-up frustration and sadness fall in rivers of silver. You didn’t understand... yet, in your heart, there was no denying it.
From way back to when you were children, Yoichi had already reached his hand out for you to take. He never left because he knew, even back then… that he was the only one you had. That you’d be lost if one more thing was going to leave you, that you’d drown and never come back if you had to give up another thing for the sake of another. If you had to choose from two equally important things: your happiness or the world?
Perhaps he wanted you to be a little more selfish. To put yourself first for a change. Because you’d spent so long asking others what they want… he wanted you to ask yourself what you want. And he’d be there to pick up the pieces of a world in ruin if he gets to see you smile.
And it unnerved you so, that it took you over a score to see him. To look to him in a different light. All that he did for you, and all that you did to him when all he ever wanted was for you to see yourself. To have you love your soul… and if he was lucky, maybe you could learn to love him, too.
The universe answered his life-long wish, so it seemed.
---
You had the biggest crush on him.
Him. Nagumo Yoichi. Your next-door neighbor from your childhood days. The one who egged you into aggravated assault. The guy who'd take a thousand bullets for you. The one who'd shamelessly dress up as a girl to get you out of infiltration missions. The one who had all the patience in the world. All the happiness in the universe could offer.
Nagumo who could have had anything in the world, anyone he wanted, all at the snap of his fingers... yet he chose to stay beside you.
You had the biggest crush on Nagumo Yoichi, your husband.
Now, there was a big difference in loving someone, and having a crush on him.
Six years you've been together. Six long years, and even still, you find yourself staring at him when he's across the room. Trailing your eyes in the fiery warmth of his wake. Feeling like a thousand fireworks are exploding in your stomach, the rhythm of your heart going a beat faster, the songs they sing submerged in saturated adoration that it leaves you blushing like a high school girl.
He makes you giddy and nervous that it leaves you looking back and forth to your reflection in any shiny surface to see if you look alright.
Whenever you go out, whether it's for official business or a date, you'd struggle to find the right outfit—the perfect choice of clothes because you want to look your best for him, to have him think that you're pretty. And if you could, you'd spend forever styling your hair until every strand will never dare to go out of place ever again.
If the phone rings, the small flickering fire of hope burns into a blazing inferno, lighting up the sky with the hopes that it's him who's calling you, that it's him who's texting you.
When he's close enough to touch, near enough to hold, you just want him to lean in and kiss you.
There was no denying it, you have a crush on your husband.
And when he meets your stare, and he smiles, like there was nothing that could ever compare to you, you’d think to yourself that you’re at the luckiest you’ve ever been. Because you had him, and he had you. He loves you… and you love him.
Even now, as he sits so boyishly on the sofa, with his legs spread out so far it leaves no room for anyone else, you just can't stop staring at him.
Thinking to yourself that out of every soul in this infinite universe, you get to be his wife.
You married that guy.
Yoichi who’d dive to the depths of the sea to save you. Travel to the ends of the universe if you asked him to. Tie a lasso around the stars and bring them all to you. Count the grains of sand, tally every heartbeat that has echoed since the dawn of time, and even then, it wouldn’t be enough to tell you how much he loves you.
You married him. Yoichi… your husband, the man at the center of your planet-sized crush. You married him. He’s your husband.
They love us, you said to him back then at the day of your wedding.
Yet he simply looked to you, I love you.
And there was nothing in this world that could ever be greater than that.

"I mean, how is it that I am only now learning of your origins in my court?" Selaene's laughter echoes in the emptiness that has now, century after century, become comforting. "My grandfather was part of the Night Court, but then he fell madly in love with my grandmother and decided to go with her to the Dawn Court. But you know the story."
After so many years together, Selaene and Vanessa can say that they have become more than friends, they have become sisters. The friend had seen the tiger a few times and had been amazed by her elegant and feline form: she had a white coat with black stripes that shone like the moon under the soft light of the passers-by, as they had called them. She had a sweet little face, and one could almost imagine her human form. From time to time, a passerby would come close enough to walk past her, but never close enough to catch her in time, and in recent years, the number of passersby had dwindled, making her doubt her plan.
"You know, Vane, I'm grateful you're here with me, I would have gone crazy without you."
"I was on the verge of madness when I found you. Maybe Mother wanted to give us a sister. You don't have one, do you?"
"No, only a brother, as you already know."
Another pause between the two as they continue to watch the darkness. A sad, bitter smile makes its way through the Fae's voice.
"We deserved a history like your grandparents'."
"But we got it. You have Azriel and I have Thomas."
"Vane..." Selaene did not have the heart to admit to herself that her beautiful mate, after her family thought her dead and after all these centuries, had probably forgotten her and moved on with his life. Not to mention telling Vanessa, who had so much faith in fate to envy.
"No, don't say that, Elle." She knew the tiger was haunted by such thoughts as well, and coming to terms with reality hurt too much. The conversation faded into a heavy silence, like at the beginning of their journey.
If Azriel had moved on, she would not have blamed him in any way, in fact, as much as it hurt, she would have let him go for his sake. Sometimes loving means knowing how to let go.
"Please, Selaene," it is rare for the friend to use her full name, and when she does, she is aware that she is beginning a serious and poignant speech, "remember. If you are lost in the darkness, seek the light."
"Or light it up." She cannot see her friend, but she knows she is smiling and nodding at the same time, as she is wont to do when she is pleased with something Selaene does.
This little play on words, which has become their phrase, has been with them for nearly four centuries, and every time they repeat it, that little spark of hope in their chests shines a little brighter.
A snort comes from the Fae's mouth. "What's wrong, Elle?"
"Nothing, it's just boring." Vanessa chuckles, "Come on, tell me about your family again, last time I think you missed a few adjectives about your brother's eyes."
The two women laugh, and Selaene is grateful that Vanessa enjoys listening to her so much.
"Rhysand's eyes tend to be more blue than mine. Mine are all purple. When he looks at the stars, he dreams. You know, Vane, I think he would be a big believer in if you get lost in the darkness, seek the light" Her friend's laughter echoes in the now familiar darkness, warming the atmosphere.
"Let me guess, he is also the biggest dreamer you know?"
"Of course. But only after me."
"After us. There is no one who dreams more than us."

Azriel sighs, the last breath as a free male of the evening.
Like every weekend, he and his family join in a dinner party at Feyre and Rhysand's house, and after Nyx's birth it is a rare event, which is why he could not say no.
He hasn't spoken to Feyre since what was said in his room, and he hopes she hasn't mentioned it to her mate, or tonight he will have to endure yet another lecture about how in life one must move on, that he also loved Selaene but that they must let her go.
Dinner doesn't go on so badly, it allows him to clear his mind a little and spend some light time, and Feyre doesn't seem to have said anything, doesn't even seem to remember what happened. She does not look at him with pity, and Azriel would like to hug her.
Later that evening the family is divided between those who play cards, those who drink and chat, and Azriel. Actually, he was part of the players, but after winning three out of four rounds, he was kicked out by a slightly tipsy and irritated Cassian. He wanted to retort that he only let Amren win the fourth round because he is slightly intimidated by her, but he opted to keep quiet. Now he stands on the terrace to get some fresh air. He gazes at the stars and the moon, smiling to himself as he remembers nights spent stargazing with his beloved. A sad smile. Azriel always thought Selaene was the reincarnation of the Moon, she shone with her own light, but not blinding like the sun, no, she was beautiful and deep and mysterious like that silver orb in the sky.
"Azriel?" the voice of Feyre distracted him from his thoughts.
"Yes?" Azriel sang victory too soon. He hoped Feyre had forgotten the whole thing, or simply decided to ignore it, but of course not. If it is not Rhysand, or Cassian, now Feyre is added to the list.
"I wanted to talk to you. About a few days ago...," the Fae's sea-colored eyes stare at his face for signs of despondency. Azriel continues to look at the moon. His Selaene.
"I... I haven't talked to Rhysand about it. I know Selaene's history, though, and I know-I mean, I see how your brothers look at you. Or how you're still loyal to her."
At the sound of his mate's name, Azriel grits his teeth. His body stiffens, but he forces himself to breathe. Once, twice, three times, before he looks at Feyre, meeting her eyes full of pity for him. But when he does, he finds none.
She looks at him understandingly, as if to say "I am here, talk to me."
He is surprised.
"Do you want to know my - our story, so then you will look at me as if I were a puppy left alone?"
Feyre smiles sadly, her gaze following that of the Illyrian warrior to the moon. There is a small pause before she responds.
"No, of course not, Az. Clearly I'm saddened, because from the way Rhysand described her, from the way you react just to hearing her name, she sounds like a really special person, and I would have liked to meet her myself. But I won't look at you with pity."
Azriel weighs his words carefully before speaking. Feyre for a moment thinks he might pull back, his posture stiff and his breaths short. But then the male sighs, muscles relaxing almost imperceptibly, and Feyre smiles at him before gently stroking his hand, as if to invite him to speak. As if he is saying "talk to me, I won't judge you," and only then does Azriel relent.
"She was a very special person. She was ... she was my moon."
The female senses the pain he is feeling from the squeaky voice, and knows it must be the first time he has spoken of this to anyone. She has never seen the ShadowSinger so...human, so fragile. And yet, her gaze remains fixed on his face, and her eyes do not make him pull back, but urge him to vent.
"She, we planned to accept the bond the week when she... On evenings like these I would sneak into her house and fly with her to Velaris, we would lie on the rocks and as we watched the stars, we would talk all night. She was...she was everything to me, Feyre. I've never loved anyone the way I loved her, and I don't think I can. Rhysand wants me to move on, to find someone to keep by my side. But I can't even think of another woman when my wound is still so fresh."
When Azriel finishes his speech, he feels a weight lift from his chest. Perhaps this is the first step, he thinks, to moving forward.
He looks at Feyre, searching her blue pools for something he cannot find. And he does not know what he finds there, but he is happy with what he sees. She smiles at him.
"You know, Az. Maybe sometimes loving someone is also knowing how to let go, maybe you've kept this weight on your chest too long, too afraid to show yourself vulnerable to your brothers. I'm glad you trusted me."
A comforting silence falls over them, and Azriel smiles. Feyre tries to speak again, but is interrupted by Cassian.
"Come on, you two! Who wants to play mime?"
And with that, the two return and take part in the games.

“the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?
ft. HSR MEN
Tumblr media
characters: blade/ren + jing yuan + dan heng ☆ gender-neutral reader
warnings: sfw | fluff | might be ooc but who cares!! | lowercase writing is intended | slight spoilers on blade’s part
note: blade brainrot has been infecting me i fear. his character story is so sad.. :(
✧ BLADE
“the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?”
ren looks up at you, his expression soft and peaceful. in all his years of being dead or alive, ren has never gave love a chance again. but after meeting with you, something about him changed. his wishes to die so badly has slowly subsided the more time he spent with you. and now, as ren’s currently stargazing with you, he finally realizes something. he deserves another chance. another chance of experiencing life, a life that he will forever spend with you.
ren rises his hand up to your cheek and caresses it. he smiles and says, “yes, it is beautiful.” before leaning in to kiss you.
✧ JING YUAN
the general is full of surprises. he lays you on his lap in his office, somehow clean and neat. you both gaze at the window before you, receiving the most beautiful view of the xianzhou. the stars here.. they paint the sky so beautifully. and with jing yuan right next to you, what more could you ask for? everything felt so at place, so perfect.
“the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?” you ask, playing with one of his loose hair strands.
jing yuan chuckles before kissing you passionately, as he does, the moonlight slowly shone on the both of you.
“not as beautiful as you, my dear.”
✧ DAN HENG
everyone on the astral express was asleep, leaving just you and dan heng awake. you told him that you had a hard time falling asleep, so he offered to stargaze with you until you felt tired. dan heng.. he’s a very nervous man. his past always creeps up on him, and he never got close with anyone. he feared that if he did, he would accidentally get them hurt.
that was until he met you, the you that sits beside him right now. he looked up to you, and aspired to be as strong and independent as you. but.. other than that, he felt something else. every time you were near him, he burns up, and his heart starts beating faster. just what is this feeling?
you stare at the two twin stars that were brighter than anything else. you stare at the moon, the moon that you both see all the time during your travels.
absently staring into the window, you ask him, “the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?”
dan heng looks at you, a little confused. “h-huh?”
“silly boy, you were supposed to say yes.” you pull him closer to your body and gave him a small peck on the lips.

Walking AC Unit
"-It being a hot day in Twisted Wonderland, and im assuming since Y/N’s a dragon with ice magic, they probably radiate coldness so everyone’s swarming around them" Once again, courtesy of- Your Imaginary Friend on Quotev
As I've previously mentioned through out my writing, Y/N naturally produces an icy air around them. While the heat bothers them, their cold helps them to stay on the cooler side of things. One particularly hot day at NRC, the First Year Squad, whiling hanging out with you, found out that you helped them cool down by just being near. They stuck with you the rest of the day, others would soon follow suite.
"Why does it have to be soooo hooot today!?" Epel whined. He fanned his face with his hand rapidly. Ace's face was flushed red, Deuce's body slouched from exhaustion and Jack's ears drooped down as he panted lightly. Sebek said nothing, but the sweat on his forehead was easy to spot.
"I don't know man, but it's starting to kill me!" complained Ace. It was a peculiarly hot day at NRC. The sun shone brighter and hotter than it has all year, and the schools AC system did nothing to stop the students from overheating. Even the teachers couldn't really teach during class because of the heat.
Jack decided to speak. "Man, things were bad enough this morning, but everything got worse after that, even at the end of the school day. It's hotter than Savanaclaw out here, and that's saying something. His tail wagged behind him in an attempt to cool off.
"I don't know what you humans are talking about! This weather is nothing! I don't feel a thing!" Even the heat couldn't stop Sebek from yelling. "Shut up, Sebek!" the other boys said in unison. That was enough to convince Sebek to quiet down. Deuce turned around and spotted someone familiar.
"Hey guys, look, it's Y/N." he said as he pointed at the tall dragon heading their way. Everyone else turned to face You. You walked towards them pretty quickly, it was kinda scary from their point of view.
"Are you guys heating to death right now!?" you asked. Your voice had a hint of exhaustion in it. The others groaned in confirmation. You nodded your head in understanding. Ace eyed you up and down, his face changed to look confused.
"You don't even look hot, Y/N. Do you even got hot? Being an ice dragon and all." You paused. It was a question you've been asked before, and were tired of hearing. You looked at him with a strained, open smile and close eyes. Your fangs glinted off the light of the sun. It sent a shiver down his spine. Behind him, Epel let out a quiet gasp. He's known you long enough to know about you and heat.
"Yes, Ace. I am an ice dragon. Despite that, even a little bit of heat can effect me. Ice dragons just don't sweat. I feel like I'm dying." you told him with a dangerous edge in your voice. He backed off. Epel decided to ask how you were staying cool enough not pass out. You pointed at the medium sized bag that sat across your chest.
"I bought this at Sam's shop. He knew I was coming and had it ready for me. It's enchanted and creates ice in its pockets. When I get to hot from the heat, I just take out a piece of ice-" you grabbed one for a demonstration. "-and plop in into my mouth and eat it." The ice fell in your mouth and crunched as you chewed it. "The extra ice in my body allows me to cool down and my icy mist gets colder." You could already feel the effects.
"That's actually pretty neat, that's all it really takes for you to control your body temperature." Deuce said with his chin in his hand as he looked at you. The others nodded in agreement.
"WOAH, WAIT!!" Ace yelped. Everyone turned to him. He was patting his face and neck frantically. "How in the world?!". He looked genuinely confused and shocked. Deuce placed his hand on Ace's shoulder.
"Dude, what's wrong? What's got you so riled up?" Deuce asked. Ace looked at Deuce and pointed at his face. "I don't feel hot anymore!! I've stopped sweating too!!" he exclaimed. We all took a closer look at him. He was right, his face even lost the red it was once covered in and no sweat could be seen. Everyone else started patting themselves down to find that they weren't hot anymore either. Epel stopped and stared at you.
"Y/N, you said that you create a cold mist around you, right?" You nodded. "It must be that then! You're mist is cooling us down, just like it does to you!". You thought for a moment, soon coming to the same thought process as Epel. "You're right, it's actually not the first time it's happened. I just didn't think about it before this.", you said as your wings opened. If your friends were really benefiting from your presence, might as well help them out a bit more with more mist.
"Now that I look more, I can see the mist around you." Jack said. "It's faint, but there." His beast-man eyes helped him out.
"That's great!!!" cheered a new voice. Cater came out of no where and jumped onto your back, clearly not thinking. He immediately regretted his decision as he felt your cold scales send a jolt of freezing cold up his arms and through his body. He backed off and took to standing under your open right wing. "Now I have a way to keep cool from this blistering heat." he said with a dramatic twang in his words.
For the rest of the afternoon, Ace, Deuce, Epel, Jack, Sebek and Cater stuck with you like they were attached to your hip. It was annoying at first, but you quickly adjusted and didn't mind the company in the end. You all found a large, shady tree to sit under. They snuggled up close to you while you sat with your back to the tree. Apparently, being outside now meant they didn't mind the freezing of your scales. Epel sat between your legs, Jack and Cater on your right side laying in your lap. Deuce and Ace sat on your left with Ace's head on your shoulder and Deuce nudging into your side. Sebek, grudgingly, placed his head against you thigh.
Cater took out his phone and snapped a picture of you all together. You only managed to get a glimpse of the caption he posted with the picture. Staying cool w/ the first years! #Y/NIsThePerfectACForTheHotDay! You decided to ignore it and just let him do his thing. You know how Cater can be at times. Nothing happened for a while, that is until you got some extra guests.
Leona and Ruggie found you all. With no words, Leona joined the group and quickly fell asleep. Ruggie joined as well and told you that he and Leona had seen Cater's Magicam post and just had to get in on the action.
Soon, even more of your friends came by. Kalim, who was followed by Jamil, came and both found a snug place right under your right wing. Jade, Floyd and Azul found you eventually. Floyd got as close as he could and Jade sat next to him, Azul found a comfy spot between the Twins. Rook plopped down from the actual tree and laid in the grass next to your tail.
Riddle and Trey had actually accidentally stumbled upon your dog pile of boys. They found spots under your left wing. Ortho saw Cater's post and dragged Idia by the collar and forced him to come as well. Idia kept a distance at first but fell asleep and Ortho pushed him closer. Vil was reluctant but Rook convinced him to lay down. Later came Lilia, with Silver sluggishly in tow. Silver passed out immediately after finding a spot in your lap (if anyone could still fit honestly). Lilia climbed the tree and found a low hanging branch where he decided to take a nap upside down. Malleus, who was right behind Lilia and Silver, sat next to you and he revealed his tail. He intertwined yours and his tail with a smile.
Eventually, you were the only one awake. The heat of the day left everyone exhausted. Much to your surprise, all the boys covering you didn't make the heat worse. Just in case though you ate a piece of ice. The mist got colder and everyone seemed to get a bit more comfortable. You stretched your wings our further and made sure to cover those you could reach. You felt your own exhaustion start to take over and your eyelids fluttered open and shut. Content with the people you cared about surrounding you, you gave into the desire to sleep, happy with where you were at.
(I loved the idea of you and all the boys sitting under a tree with your wings spread across everyone! Fun fact: After this hot day, Professor Oski (refer back to First Day of School chapter) taught you how to use the personal snow cloud spell. It helped from this incident happening again.)

Gluttony, Gods, and that one dude over there
Cover pg (has tw's and story summary)
Chapter 1: A new taste
An old summer breeze blowed through the gods hair, sending a familiar chill down their spine. How thrilling, feeling fall close in while the air itself changed.
Here, among the yellowing trees, Hallo found themself waiting patently at the interdimentional door to a party. The party.
This party happens about once a week, always with the same food, events, and people. Yet each one seems so different than the last. It's no surprise since nearly every god would be attending, totaling 34 gods in one, decently small, home.
Once a week, Hallo got to gorge on their favorite foods. Well, it wasn't like they did that anyway every day, but here, it was more acceptable to stuff themself silly.
In Hallo's hands, they held a stack of food filled trays, each dish hand prepared by them. It seemed fitting for Hallo to bring a good portion of the food offered since they knew themself to be the one to eat a great portion of what was on the buffet table. It was always the same. By the time Hallo had eaten about half their fill, at least a third of the food is gone. After about half a dozen complaints from the other gods about not having enough food, Hallo decided it would be best just to bring more food for themself.
Slowly, the door to the party opened, allowing Hallo to hear the commotion that had already started. On the other side of the entryway, holding the door handle, stood Hallos cousin Ailton. She was the goddess of war, forging, fire, and truth. In every way, she was the personification of a war and fire itself. Her dark, maroon, battle worn skin sported many scars, cuts, and burns, all amplified tenfold by her toned muscles. She had short, deep, brown hair, which seemed to always have a slight curl to it, styled in a way that looked to be similar to a messy pixy cut. Her hazel eyes shone like a blaze in the sunlight, not unlike her fiery but beautifully kind personality. All the gods glowed, but Ailton has always seemed to shine just a bit brighter than most, both physically and mentally.
Ailton beckoned Hallo inside with a warm smile. She turned to the other gods, "Foods here!" She bellowed. The cacophony of voices died down for a brief moment, the typical godly welcome, before picking back up again.
Ailton stepped to the side, which Hallo took that as their sign to come in to the home. They made their way over to the food table. On it were already a few dishes, including a plate of crackers and some peanut butter cookies. Hallo started to unstack the tower of platteres they had brought and opened them to allow the other gods to start digging in.
Eat while you still have the chance, they thought with a chuckle.
"So..." Ailton leaned over their shoulder, "What's all this here?"
"Well," Hallo pointed to the dish in front of them, "this is something very special, called a cheese cake." They lectured, playful in tone, knowing full well that she knew what a cheesecake was.
"Oh shut up," Ailton smacked Hallo's head lightly, "I know what a gosh darn cheesecake is."
Hallo let out a snicker, "Well, I never know with you. I had to explain what, ya know, a blow dryer is. The most basic hair tool."
"Does it look like I ever use em?" Ailton pointed to her short hair.
"Who am I to judge?"
"You just were!" She scoffed, laughing to herself as she walked away.
"Now, where are you going?" Hallo shouted, disregarding those around them.
"None of your beeswax!"
"Oh, so you know what beeswax is, but you dont know..." Hallo trailed off as Ailton went around a corner.
I'll have to argue with her another time, Hallo laughed silently. Well, I have all night at least.
The day went on. Hallo managed to budge their way into a conversation with one of their aunts, Feira, the goddess of the seasons and birds. She was not the mother of Ailton. Rather, she had no children and seemed quite happy with it. Her children were the birds. It seemed like everywhere she went, some bird would follow her. Sometimes, she even kept her pet ostrich in her chest pocket to 'walk him', as she had called it before.
Hallo talked, wasting the day away with snacks and laughter. That was, until Alamor, Ailtons' brother, showed up. Alamor was the god of potions, but he was also more well known as the god of influence. Although he couldn't control anyones opinions, that didn't make the fact he could alter others' actions any less terrifying. Thankfully, this effect was much hindered when Alamor used his abilities on fellow gods, but the same grace didn't apply to other creatures.
Unlike Ailton, Alamor didn't have many visible scars, although of the few small scars he did have, most were caused by Ailton. Alamors skin was a similar complexion to Ailton, but with a bluer undertone to it. His hair was down to his abdomen, with fadeing red tips, now turned a yellowish pink.
Hallo watched as Alamor crept through the door, carrying a lidded plastic box with holes speckled about on the top. Gently, Alamor set down the container on the food table. He slowly eyed the room, slowly locking eyes with Hallo. Alamors' demeanor changed from one of secrecy to one of mischief. Hallo watched as Alamor raised his hand, beckoning them over. An uneasy feeling crept into Hallos chest, urging them not to go look.
Hallo had known Alamor ever since they were little, Hallo had practically grown up with him. If they knew one thing about Alamor, it's that he loves to try his new potions on others. For the past few years, any time Alamor needed a live experiment, he baked his potion into a dish. With Alamors cooking skills, unfortunately, the dishes always tasted bad. This food, of course, was avoided by most of the gods. But Hallo? They were the living trash can of the group and was often the one to end up eating the garbage.
Against their better judgment, Hallo took a step forward, making their way towards where their mind screamed not to go. Step after step, Hallo couldn't help but think that Alamor was influencing them in some way.
Forever finally passed, and Hallo stood in front of Alamor and the box. Alamor continued to grin, "I think you are going to like this one." He said, peeling the lid open almost slower than Hallo could bare.
Hallos heart raced, unsure of what weird concoction Alamor had decided to make them try this time. To their great surprise, inside the box was a bunch of humans. The poor things looked scrappy, a bit shaken, but overall, they didn't seem overly frightened. One human even paused their conversation to look up at Hallo and wave, to which Hallo responded with a small smile.
"Come on," Alamor said in a strangely light tone, shoving the box closer to Hallo, "Take one!"
Hallo scrunched their face, "Like... to keep as a pet?" Hallo didn't exactly feel like taking care of a pet at the moment. Feira always complained about hers, so Hallo never exactly had a desire for one. No matter how Alamor beggs, Hallo told themself, I will not go home with a human.
But, to Hallos surprise, Alamor only laughed. "No, no, not as a pet." He could barely get the words out, "No, they are to eat."
Hallos heart sank, this is a new low for Alamor. Manipulating humans into a box, no matter how stupid they may be, is horrible. To make matters worse, Alamor actually expected Hallo to eat one. Forcing a polite smile, knowing that being angry will only make Alamor more determined, Hallo grit their teeth and tried to speak. "Oh, that's - that's..." they falted, "um, nice."
Hallo tried to back away, but Alamor grabbed their arm. "Oh, come on, Hallo, dont tell me you won't at least try one!"
Hallo shook their head, "No, I really dont want -"
They were interrupted by Alamor shoving something into their open mouth. Pulling away, Hallo instinctively shut their mouth around the new weight on their tongue. The thing squirmed a bit in Hallos' mouth, probably trying to orient itself, but soon stayed still. The first thing that Hallo noticed was its breathing. It took small, but deep breaths, and Hallo was able to feel each one. With the human pressed into the center of their tongue, yet still somehow filling their whole mouth, it was hard not to feel every movement. Its flavor was the second thing Hallo noticed. It was like nothing Hallo had ever tasted before. There was a deep earthy flavor similar to a walnut, but it wasn't bitter like one. Instead, it was also savory, like a good steak, and a bit salty too.
For how long Hallo stood there, looking off into the distance and tasting this new flavor, they had no clue. Finally, Alamor brought them back, "Tastes good, right?" He poked them in the stomach, "Ya gonna eat it or just taste it?"
Hallo raised their brows, now more concerned than anything.
"Dont worry about hurting it, it cant be digested, just like all humans." Alamor once again smiled and poked at Hallos' abdomen, something that Alamor always seemed to do when he wanted Hallo to suck it up and eat what they were given.
Thickly swallowing, although not letting the human into their throat quite yet, Hallo debated if Alamor was telling the truth. Hallo didn't know all too much about humans, but they couldn't wrap their head around why they wouldn't be able to be digested. They are like animals in a way, albeit significantly more intelligent than an animal. They were still composed of fleshy meat nonetheless, and Hallo knew they could digest that, so why wouldn't they get hurt as well?
"Hallo, swallow the damn human already." Alamor had now lost all his patience. Hallo had to decide quickly now. They did know that Alamor had never steered them wrong when it came to the possible side effects. In fact, Alamor may be a bit too open about them sometimes. Hallo also knew that in some childrens books their parents read to them when they were younger, there were references to the gods eating humans to save them from natural disasters caused by warring gods, but Hallo before had thought it was just another tale to encourage the young gods to take care of their domains. Now, they were not too sure that it was made up.
With their decision clear in mind, Hallo finally let their tightened throat loosen up. Tipping their head up ever so slightly, Hallo once again swallowed, pushing the human from their mouth into their throat. The pressure of the decently sized being in their throat wasn't uncomfortable, but definitely something that Hallo had never experienced even in all of Hallos gluttony. When the human passed by Hallos' heart, they swore they could feel the tiny persons heart beating right alongside it. Soon, the human passed by their heart and moved along to the gateway to Hallos' stomach. There was a decent amount of pressure as the human pressed into their stomach, and for a brief moment, Hallo was questioning whether or not the human may have gotten stuck. Thankfully, the human made it through and slowly but surely plopped into their stomach. A low groan came from Hallos abdomen as it accepted this wonderful gift. The human managed to fit so perfectly inside Hallo. It was wonderful, almost like they had eaten a ten course meal. Hallo felt like they were on cloud nine, wanting to do nothing but go home and bask in this feeling.
But, as always, Alamor had questions. "How did it feel?" He inquired. "Did it taste good? What about right now? Is it squirming? Is it nice?" Alamor looked at Hallo, an excited and curious look about him.
"Oh, yah." Hallo tried to put together their thoughts desperately, as too many of them excaped their grasp in favor of wanting to touch and hold the small being in their stomach now. "Uh, its good. Yah."
Alamor didn't quite take the hint, instead pressing on, "That's it? 'Its good'? Come on, you've got to have more to say than that." He bent down a bit to once again poke at Hallos' abdomen.
"Yah, it's nice. It's not... doing much." The small being had gone almost completely still, save for its breathing that Hallo could once again feel within them. "Um... do you think I could go? Home, maybe? I'm... tired."
Alamor snapped up straight and looked at the food table, seeing that a majority of it was still there, and raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? You've still got half a table of food to finish."
"Yes, I - I'm sure." Hallo flashed an unconvincing sickly smile.
"Ok then." Alamor stepped back, still sporting a look of suspicion on his face, but without an intention to stop them.
With that, Hallo nearly ran out of the house, leaving the party over 8 hours before it was done. They hurried home, jumping out of the small pocket dimension that the party house was in, and hurriedly walked back to their domain. On the way, there were many people still out and about, some walking, some driving, some riding its bike, and all of them under foot. Hallo had to take extra precautions to not accidentally squash any of them. They used their poor agility to somehow make it back to their domain without crushing some poor human. Throughout this, though, the human within their stomach had not made any drastic movement. Here and there, Hallo would accidentally shake their passenger a bit too much, and it would have to right itself again, but otherwise, it hardly moved.
After the bustling town, Hallo made their way into the forest. This way was a shortcut right to their home, and this way had no more towns of people to hop around. The trees shook lightly with Hallos footsteps. It was interesting just how little the ground shook at their presence, perhaps due to the fact that gods naturally are not made of flesh, and therefore lighter in weight than any animal would be their size.
One tree in particular stood out amongst the rest, a large pine that grew high above the rest, just the pine Hallo was looking for. Reaching their hand out to the middle of the pine tree, their hand grasping on something seemingly not there. Pulling, they opened the door to their home, swinging the door wide. Stumbling inside, they slam the door shut behind them. They flopped their way over to their recliner and dove onto it. Hallo put up the leg rest, relishing the realization that they now can devote their time to their guest.
Placing a hand over their stomach, they pressed in, feeling the little movements of the human inside who was probably trying to figure out what was happening. Hallo didn't know much, but they did know they would probably be here for a good while yet.

NSFW WARNING — MINORS DO NOT INTERACT. Will contain some NSFW. But mostly fluff.
Tumblr media
“You're so pretty, Chrome.”
Through fluttering lashes, you looked up to find calm cerulean eyes already on you. With a quiet laugh, Chrome closes his eyes.
Warm fingers find themselves on your bare skin, on the side of your hips, slowly pulling your shirt up. You gasp at the sensation, a slow drag of Chrome's hips on yours.
“Not as pretty as you.”
On a quiet morning, before responsibilities would call you, you were long preoccupied underneath the comforts of your blanket. Weary legs tangled with another, tired hands curled on his chest, your heavy weight on top of Chrome—what a good morning, you thought.
Watching as dust settles on his eyelashes, the artificial light of Babylonia's sun on his eyes, your heart leaps at the beauty in front of you. As you intently watched his face, for a moment, you felt Chrome's cock throb inside of you, making you quietly moan. In the quiet atmosphere, Chrome wraps his arms around you. Without a warning, he effortlessly holds you as he puts you on top.
It took a while, albeit both of your sleepy states, until he finds you right on top of him. Perfectly contented with your current position, you exhale—settling your head on the crook of his neck.
“Mm...” Chrome mutters, lips finding the shell of your ear, “Good morning, Commandant.”
You giggle as he lightly blows on your ear. “Good morning, Chrome.”
“How are you this fine morning?”
His hand lightly brushes the side of your face, before placing it on your hair. Tangling a few strands in between the gaps of his fingers, massaging your scalp, running through until your hair spills on your back. You've liked it this way; gentle hands caressing you, gentle hands comfortably touching you.
“My sleep was great. However, as soon as I woke up, someone was quite needy today,” you hum, “So I couldn't leave him hanging.”
His chest rumbles with a low chuckle, your pussy fluttering around the cock that was buried inside of you. Although he hasn't moved, he fits you perfectly, snugly wrapped in your warm and leaky cunt. Chrome groans, before his free hand drags along the curve of your back.
“Really, must have been disturbing your free time, then?”
“Never,” you assure, “He never disturbs me.”
Such morning routines still remain the same, yet it still takes your breath away. You rise from your position, cerulean eyes watching you, before propping your hand on his chest, leaning onto him.
“So, Chrome, what are your plans today?”
Chrome thinks. And while he does, you watch him. Messy blonde bed hair, calculative cerulean irises that shone brighter than ever. Soft skin that feels so warm on your palm—Chrome has always been so perfect.
“I don't know yet. But I think you have plans already.”
“Really? Why do you think so?”
He lightly flicks your nose. “You're studying me.”
“Can I not study my handsome husband?”
He throbs. You moan softly. With a laugh, Chrome leans closer to you. “Using that word on me already, [Y/N]?”
It's not official — but sometimes, you like to imagine. “Well...I like the way it curls on my tongue.”
You point to your open mouth, muttering, “Hus. Band.”
“Does marriage cross your mind now, hm?”
You pause. Marriage, a union. Husband and wife. Such words are not foreign to you and Chrome, as you've already discussed those ideas. However, with the state of the world, you wonder if it was still valid for a union while everything else is falling apart.
“It does.” You said, “It has been a while now.”
You expected a laugh. But instead, he brings your hand to his mouth. Quietly, watching as he lightly kisses your thumb, your index, middle, and pinky fingers. Chrome doesn't break eye contact, lips pressed on the pad of your ring finger, on the tip of it, all the way down to the base.
You swallow. Two quiet breaths mingling in a bedroom. But it feels full somehow, a small smile on your lover's lips.
“Would you like to get married, my [Y/N]?”
Only a fool would decline such a proposal.
“I want to.” You grin, “I want to get married to you, Chrome.”
Chrome doesn't hesitate. Closing the gap in between the both of you, he kisses you like he's been depraved of water. Breathing through his nose, kissing you, hands holding you tightly.
And Chrome loves you. Loves you enough to pull away and let you breathe, loves you enough as your breathing mingles with his, and enough to make him crumble—
“My [Y/N],” he laughs, “You should have told me earlier.”
You giggle as you feel his hands slither back to your hips. “Only if you let me move now.”
But like the gentleman he is, he thrusts into you, grinning as he watches your expression.
“Let me take care of you instead, [Y/N].”
You could only hold onto him as Chrome starts to move, the slow drag of his cock along your quivering walls. In this position, you could feel him even deeper, toes curling as the tip constantly hits your sweet spot.
Chrome captures your lips as he ruts into you, your muffled moans and his audible groans. His hands tightly grasp your hips, the telltale of your orgasm impending.
“I love you,” he quietly whispers in your ear, in between battered breaths.
And you do. Holding onto his cheeks, “I love you, too, Chrome—”
His warmth, the fullness of him inside of you, and Chrome alone made you fall apart. Following you closely, ropes of cum painted your walls full. So much for a sensitive morning.
But still Chrome cradles you in his palm, nose rubbing yours. “Well...good morning again, Commandant.”
In the afterglow of the Babylonian sun, you smile at Chrome, “Good morning, Chrome.”
Somewhere in the room, a shiny piece of diamond glints prettily, hidden in a small box. Maybe at the right time.

To love is to sin?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uh... hi I've been awfully inactive here but i thought i could drop this stuff i made some months ago btw i'm sorry for all the wip i just left here, i don't think i have the ability to write anymore :/ and this is not proofread
My knees were resting on the kneeler and my hands remained together in a prayer position despite pausing when I heard footsteps approaching. Feeling uncomfortable at the familiar presence now hovering behind me, I stood up, looking at the large statue of Jesus that loomed over the entire holy place. It made me feel small, and the eyes filled with love that had once brought me comfort now rested on me, filled with judgment and reproach.
“How long has it been since your last confession?” His hoarse voice seemed to come from the ground and rose through my body, enveloping it in a thick layer of guilt that almost made me feel suffocated, and I had to avert my gaze from the statue to respond.
“Quite a while, however, my forgetfulness does not question my faith.” I spoke calmly; I was in the church, the place that had been introduced to me as safe, here I should not fear.
“Have you followed the commandments? Have you not desired anyone?” She looked at me; I couldn’t know for sure, but I felt it, I felt her gaze burning into my body, and I sensed that she drew closer, she, like the statue, judging me, but she had no right.
Of course, I had been a victim of lust, the worst evil that surrounded us and tainted our souls, and although I felt incapable of admitting it aloud, I could not lie in the house of God; He had received me with open arms to heal my heart, and I owed Him, as we all did.
“I am devout and a good woman; that does not make me any less human.” I spoke calmly, turning to look into her dark eyes that shone brighter today than ever, the light from the altar candles I had lit for my comfort illuminating her clothing.
“You need to admit something else.” Her voice came out broken, filled with emotions that I did not stop to evaluate because it was not my place to do so; instead, my gaze left her face, and I turned away again.
“I am a good woman, devoted and virgin.” The words slipped from my lips with insecurity and discouragement, and I closed my eyes wishing to fall asleep and wake up somewhere else when I felt her hands on my hips, her lips hovering over my ear, the warmth of her breath sending shivers down my skin.
“No, you’re not.”
I was. I was telling the truth, which is why my lips parted slightly when she touched me so gently, why I felt the heat of sin burning between my legs with the promise of tormenting me, why it was so easy to feel tempted to run into the arms of the devil and melt into her warmth, because I had been in heaven for too long, freezing.
“I am. I have not been touched by a man.” I murmured, the mere thought causing a sense of discomfort to settle in my stomach, threatening to make me feel sick.
“You were touched by me.” My eyes filled with tears at her desperate words full of anger, at the reminder that my heart had been cursed with something sacrilegious. “And I swore you eternal love before him.” She continued, her hand grabbing my chin to make me look at him, his gaze now seemed harsh, that of an angry brother, the statue seemed to grow as I disappointed his father, our father.
"Our love is tainted, it is forbidden." I tried, I murmured in a pathetic voice as the tears continued to slide down my cheeks while guilt consumed me alive, my mind trying to forget the memories of that day, the greatest act of love and rebellion I had ever committed. "I will get marry, I will have children with someone who can give them to me naturally, and I will be happy." I paused in a futile attempt to convince myself of my own lie. "And when I look back, I will no longer see you there, because you should never have been." And I was grateful, grateful that her hands no longer touched my skin and that I could no longer feel her breath caressing my hair, I was grateful that she was gone because I could not turn around to witness how I was losing her.

the way this was Elain’s last appearance in the original trilogy 😭
"What now?" Elain mused, at last answering my question from moments ago as her attention drifted to the windows facing the sunny street. That smile grew, bright enough that it lit up even Azriel's shadows across the room. "I would like to build a garden," she declared. "After all of this ... I think the world needs more gardens."
My throat was too tight to immediately reply, so I just kissed my sister's cheek before I said, "Yes—I think it does."
Elain’s eyes shone with joy and life–a light she needed only herself to regain, a light she began to find once Az gave her the understanding she needed to distinguish dream from reality—and that bright smile lit up Azriel’s shadows 🥲
And the way Rhysand then keeps mentioning how Feyre’s laugh is the most beautiful sound, that it fills him with a light brighter than Starfall…
and then in Elain and Azriel’s last interaction in SF, Az is drawn to the sound of her laugh and literally follows it to see what made her happy—
i can’t. i really really can’t ensnjznsnawbsh

Stray: Part 8
Masterlist Link
Part 8
Loki's heart felt lead-heavy as he finally forced himself to release you from his embrace. Finally, he sadly accepted that he'd missed his opportunity to kiss you. In return, you gave him a bittersweet smile, baffled that he didn't make his move when it seemed inevitable that he would.
Maybe he intends to just abandon me at some point, like everyone else does. Eventually, I'm always going to be alone. But, for now, there's something beautiful to experience, so I won't take it for granted. I'll hold onto the good parts when the worst happens, I'll treasure them. That's all I can do.
You felt like crying as the two of you continued strolling down the main promenade of the carnival; two heads bowed, two sets of hands buried in pockets, two sets of eyes glittering faintly with unshed tears and unspoken words in the carnival lights. The sun had set in a beautiful amber and rose vista while you had rested against his chest. You watched, considering the poignant fleeting nature of all beautiful things as the sun sank below the hills. A velvety indigo night had descended by the time he finally unraveled from the hug. You had never felt colder than you did in that blanket of darkness and the absence of his touch.
After a few steps, you took a chance that you knew might result in a broken heart and a shattering rejection from this man. You decided to be brave anyway. Reaching, you touched his arm lightly, hesitantly. Henry's bright irises met yours, understanding what you sought. He smiled a tight-lipped affectionate smile that creased the corners of his eyes, and you could swear his face shone brighter than every bulb around you. Loki's heart leaped back up from where it had tumbled to the floor as he rushed to entwine his fingers with yours while strolling; quietly, pensively, each of you floundering in your own ruminations until finally, you asked, “Henry?”
“Yes, darling?” he rushed out, anxious to finally exchange words again.
You faced him, and placed a hand on his sharp cheek, “Would...would you like to come over? We could talk a little while.”
“Yes! Yes, of course. I'd love to. If you don't mind....yes,” he blabbered, and you couldn't help but laugh at his enthusiasm.
Loki fizzled with joy because you wanted more time with him, because perhaps he hadn't ruined things, because perhaps he would have a chance to be closer still, because...
Damn. Loki suddenly thought, realizing that if he was there, her beloved little black cat wouldn't be, and he would have to find some way around that. What were you thinking?, he scolded himself. He knew the answer was that, of course, for once, he wasn't thinking. He wasn't scheming. He wasn't anticipating his next lie or ploy. He was in love and it was making him reckless. Loki was desperate to be near you in this form just a little longer. He would wring every minute, steal every second, if he could just have more of his borrowed time with you.
-----
As you unlocked the door and ushered him inside, you said, “Welcome to my palace. I'm sorry it's not much. I know it's probably not the kind of thing your used to.”
“Hmm. You'd be surprised,” he said, cryptically, then added under his breath, “I like the new curtains.”
You gave him a puzzled look. You'd just changed those curtains yesterday. He continued, realizing his mistake and rushing to deflect, “Well, I've been all over the world...lots of places. And I think it's very sweet and cozy here. I love it.”
You smiled, thawing under his glow. “Oh! I forgot to ask. Are you alright with cats? I hope you're not allergic.”
“Oh...no, no problem at all. Not at all...but just...” he began to mutter in a panic.
“I just have to feed him and then we can have some coffee, yeah? Loki!” you called as you hung up your coat. “Loki?” you repeated with a bit more worry in your voice. He had always greeted you immediately before. You considered that maybe he had just scurried away into hiding because of the presence of an unfamiliar person.
“Sorry, Henry. Just a moment. Please, make yourself at home,” you said as you continued your search around the tiny apartment.
Henry called after you a moment too late as you were already peeking behind every piece of furniture in the tiny flat. He sighed, exasperated and afraid. It would only take you a few moments to look everywhere and realize inevitably that...
“He's not here,” you said quietly, eyebrows peaked in confusion and concern as you returned to Henry.
Loki tried to think quickly. “Hey...hey! Darling. Look at me. It's alright. I'll...I'll help you look.”
“I...I looked everywhere. I...” you trailed off as you noticed the ratty green collar, abandoned on the counter and a nameless foreboding crept up your spine. “No. No, something is wrong. I need to...”
Henry held you firmly by the shoulders and looked into your eyes, saying your name slowly, then, “I know this sounds insane, but that sweet little black cat is fine. I know that he's fine. I promise.”
Your look of dismay turned to one of sinking suspicion. Suddenly you saw the odd, charming man before you in a new light of doubt. How did he know Loki was a black cat?
You went through all of it in your mind, from the beginning. He swept you off your feet at work after apparently “noticing” you (unbeknownst to you) for some time, only communicated through messages and gifts but never called. He knew what to order for your lunch without asking. You were reminded, with a sinking feeling in your stomach, of his sly expression as he knowingly quipped about his “intuition”. He found out where you lived, knew your curtains were new, knew what your cat looked like. Now...now you had invited him into your apartment.
Idiot, you scolded yourself. He's some kind of stalker lunatic. You were too smitten to see it.
You spoke more loudly, “And how the hell do you know that, Henry? ...if that's even your real name,” you said, walking backwards toward the kitchen and drawing a large knife out of the holder.
Loki said your name gently, eyes going wide, and put his hands up in surrender, “What on earth is this? What's going...”
You stared him down, glaring over the glinting line of the knife. “I...I was so bind...an unbelievably dashing and mysterious foreign man noticing me at work, giving me fancy letters and gifts...never even telling me your last name...sweet-talking Janet into giving you my address. Did you take Loki because you're some kind of obsessive weirdo? Have you been in my apartment? What...what are you...some kind of con artist or...or just a pervert? Well, I obviously don't have much to steal, so why are you doing this? Should I check my underwear drawer for a few missing panties, or what? Just....what the fuck is this?”
The volume of your voice climbed as your words grew more frantic and shrill.
Loki sighed and gathered his thoughts, speaking deliberately as he moved closer, “Please, just listen. You can't hurt me with that. You're more likely to hurt yourself, so please, put it down.”
In a panic, you lunged forward with the knife. In a glow of green light you passed right through Henry and tumbled to the floor, as the blade clattered over the tiles. You winced, feeling a bruise begin to form, then your mouth dropped in shock as you watched Henry evaporate in a glowing green slither of light.
You began to scream, but a cold pale hand covered you mouth to silence you. The man beside you was the man in your dream; coal black hair, alabaster skin, and Henry's face in a different color palette. Your mind went utterly blank aside from a single frenetic thought on loop. I'm dreaming. This isn't real.
Loki felt horrible about causing you pain. He could feel your hot stilted breath pummeling his palm. You trembled like a small terrified animal under his hand. He thought of how you must have bruises blossoming somewhere on your precious skin from your fall.
“As much as I hate to see you in distress, I'm afraid I have to do this,” he said, eyes wide and apologetic, brow creased in concern. He raised his hands summoning a green glow that wrapped around your arms and mouth, stilling and silencing you, then compelled you to sit on the couch. Once you were sitting, he knelt before you in his armor, green cape flaring like a curtain over the floor. In another situation you might have laughed at how much it looked like some Arthurian prince about to rescue a maiden in your shabby apartment.
“Please. Please, listen,” he said very softly. “What I'm going to tell you is going to be hard to believe. You saw me, in your dream, but I'm real. I am Loki Odinson, Prince of Asgard, and I am Henry, and I am...well...I'm also Loki, your cat. Now...if I remove the binding from your mouth, do you promise not to scream?”
You forced your mind to at least try to wrap around this. You had just seen the impossible and you had to admit that you'd be no match for this...person?...Magician?...God?. And as usual, you had to find out what all this meant. Your curiosity trumped your fear. Finally, you nodded.
He smiled and released the binding over your mouth. You took in a heaving breath and blinked a few times, still not entirely sure of what you were witnessing. He averted his gaze and said, “I'm so sorry to hurt you, or confuse you...”
“Or lie to me? Or terrify me?”
He sighed. “Yes, especially that.” He was silent for a moment, tongue poking between his lips in thought. You were surprised by that. It was a cute gesture, reminding you of...of your cat.
“Jesus...this...this is all so weird. I can't...”
“I know,” he said, soothing, “But I also know you're very good and you're very clever and you're very brave. I've seen it within your mind. I've seen it in your actions.”
“You can read my mind? Fuck...that's unsettling.”
“It's...not quite like that. Just...we have a special connection. I don't even entirely understand it. I wasn't anticipating it. We can see into each other a bit more than other people can. Listen, if I touch you. I can show you everything. Can I do that? Please.”
You considered carefully. He was asking, genuinely asking. A psycho killer probably wouldn't ask, right? Fuck...whatever, at this point. I can't go this far without knowing.
“Okay,” you said.
With your permission, Loki slid his hands very gently over your hair until he was cradling your head in his elegant hands. Slowly, he placed his forehead against yours and a green glow spun into a nebula around you.
Time became strange. Your consciousness tumbled through his experiences as he poured his knowledge into your mind. You saw his life in Asgard, his family and friends (if you could really call them that). You saw why he related so much to you in some of the saddest ways. Tumbling further, you saw in more detail; the bet with Thor, the hijinks as D.B. Cooper and every moment and thought and image from his perspective since he landed in that dumpster.
It was an odd thing, a completely foreign experience, to see yourself through Loki's eyes as his perceptions changed. At the start, as a liar, a narcissistic schemer and fugitive, he saw you as nothing but a tool, a servant, and a diversion. It was even stranger once you began to see yourself through the lens of his reluctant but unstoppable feelings of affection, then friendship, then through the floral illuminated frame of utter selfless love. He loved you. This ancient god, a strange and powerful and feared being, loved you. The god of mischief saw you as a goddess; one whom he hoped would choose to be by his side for all time. You saw yourself, in many iterations, through the frame of his eyes, and what he saw was absolute worthiness (a feeling you had never really felt for yourself).
Then the green fog cleared and you heard the echo of his beautiful deep voice calling you back to the present. As you slowly opened your eyes, he leaned back and unraveled the bindings from the rest of your body. You both sat quietly for a moment; you on the couch, and Loki still kneeling beside you. After a moment you chuckled and said with a wry smile, “That was brave of you to do. How do you know I won't still come after you with a kitchen knife?”
He chuckled in relief. “I'll take my chances. And I'm not nearly as brave as you've been, darling.”
“So...now I know everything,” you said softly reaching for his hand. He looked surprised by that, uncertain if he deserved to hold your hand, and it made your heart ache.
“You do, and yet...my kind, brave girl...you still reach for my hand?” he said gazing up, those bright aquamarine eyes wide and solicitous.
You squeezed where your palms pressed together. You nodded and smiled as tears made their way down your face, making it hard to talk with the tightness in your throat. You said, shakily, “But you've only seen into some of my mind...my history. What if you don't like the rest? All the pain, and insecurity, and bad days, and mistakes, and disappointments, and failures and...unworthiness...”
Loki inturruped your downward spiral with a finger against your lips. “Shh shh shh. You are worthy, that doesn't mean perfect. No one is.”
“But you can't know how much worse I might really be. I think I'm a pretty good person...I try to be, but what if I'm not...what if I'm not who you need me to be?”
Loki came up to join you on the couch now, sitting closely and wiping the tears from your eyes. He said your name, reverently, like a prayer. “Who you are is someone who has worked very very hard...someone who's survived so many bad times and bad days and abandonment and a childhood of being dragged to church and shamed. You're someone who set out alone across the country to build a life...someone who loves horror movies because you always try to push yourself towards the things that scare you. You're someone who summons the strength, every day, to face the world as it is and to find beauty in it, because you're so brave and so kind. You're someone who loves to drink coffee in the afternoon, but falls asleep on the couch after awhile anyway. Someone who has read hundreds of books.
Your favorite color is purple, and your favorite band is The Velvet Underground. You're always cold, and you've worn that damned gray sweater for 10 years to try to stay warm but it's never enough. You like tomato soup and grilled cheese on rainy days. You hate those high heels and kick them off in the same spot every single day. You're someone unbelievably generous...generous enough to take in a moody selfish little homicidal creature mewling from a rubbish heap. Who else would do that?”
You chuckled through a sob, answering, “A lot of people, Loki. That's just called owning a cat.”
He laughed with you at that, then stroked a hand through your hair, tilting your chin so you could meet his eyes. “And you're very funny” he added to his long list. “Please, believe me when I tell you this. No one like you has ever been, or ever will be again. You are entirely unique. And in all of the cosmos and the myriad realms, I had the good fortune to find you and now....” he said, moving closer still until his sharp cheek grazed your own soft one, “I don't ever want to let you go.”
Loki kissed you, breathy and hesitant at first as his lips skated across your own. Then your sighs mingled and your mouths opened to invite each other in...to invite each other home...finally home. You lost all sense of time as his arm encircled your waist and your hands wove into his soft inky hair. You never wanted to stop. The two of your were lost in the world of your own senses; a universe of breath, and warmth, and the soft feeling and smell of each others skin (a mingling of mint and lavender), the sound of pattering night rain outside the balcony doors.
You both jumped as the rain turned suddenly into a thunderstorm, interrupting your rapturous moment. The brightest lightning and the loudest thunder you had ever experienced, rioted outside as your balcony doors swung open. You yelped as the largest man you had ever seen in your life materialized in your living room. Loki jumped up and gathered you tightly, protectively, against his own body. The enormous viking man bellowed out, “Brother! I knew you would show yourself once again and we would find you. You can't run forever, you conniving little snake!”
