The nominees are:

“I’m Just Ken” from Barbie

“It Never Went Away” from American Symphony

“Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon

“What Was I Made For?” from Barbie

This category upsets me most years, and this year is no exception. Why is “The Fire Inside” here other than to give Diane Warren a 15th Oscar nomination only to not have her win yet again? It doesn’t deserve to be here.

That being said, this year’s shortlist didn’t contain many gems, so it’s rather slim pickings. Notably, none of the new songs from musicals The Color Purple, Wonka, Flora and Son, and Dicks: The Musical made the final five, nor did other hopefuls like Olivia Rodgrigo’s “Can’t Catch Me Now” from the Hunger Games prequel or Lenny Kravtiz’s “Road to Freedom” from Rustin.

Instead, this year was all about Barbie. The prize will either go to “What Was I Made For?” or “I’m Just Ken.” The former, a Billie Eilish/FINNEAS collab is likely to win, especially after picking up the Golden Globe in January and the Grammy for Song of the Year in February. But “I’m Just Ken” has a lot of popular appeal and won the Critics’ Choice award, so it has some strong legs in this race. It may boil down to whether the Academy wants to give the O’Connells their second Oscar in three years. If that’s the case, Billie Eilish will become the youngest ever two-time Oscar winner.

There is an alternate reality where the two songs from Barbie split the vote, paving the way for a dark horse contender like Jon Batiste’s “It Never Went Away” or “Wahzhazhe” from Killers of the Flower Moon.

I've been a fan of Minecraft Youtubers for a good long while now, and there's something I've always taken into account that I think newer fans may not have noticed immediately.

The Adpocalypse.

Every January-February, mcyt content dries up like a puddle in the desert. Why? Because ad money has fallen off of a cliff. The season of advertising gifts for the holidays, the season of giving, ends abruptly after Christmas/Hanukkah/New Years. There's little to nothing to advertise during this part of the year, so content creators don't get paid as much.

The result is that a lot of people take breaks during this part of the year. Things that started the year before, end.

See the first big break the DSMP had after Doomsday. We went from regular, daily streams from almost everyone on the server to nothing. That was the yearly adpocalypse.

It shows up in other mcyt content as well. Hermitcraft Season 8 ended before the holidays, and they took their first big break between seasons. When is the last time MCC took place during January/February? Only for the very first events while it was still getting off the ground, otherwise the season ends with the Christmas event. Rats SMP ended before the holidays. The Hermitcraft X Empires crossover ended abruptly as we hit the holidays.

It is just that time of the year.

This isn't the absolute rule of course, plenty of people start projects during this time too. See Origins SMP. Lots of new projects on Hermitcraft. Videos keep being made, just at a slower pace. Winter is the time for rest and building. Take it slow, make something new, vote in some polls, and have some fun with the community.

Being a batfam fan is funny because people will make a post like “here’s my headcanon-“ and it’s just something that’s directly canon to the story then post about major canon events and get everything wrong.

I don’t know why, but there is something so deeply special about the “you know I’m in love with you? Right?” trope to me. It’s the only miscommunication trope I genuinely enjoy. There is just something about the way a character just stares at their love interest in exasperation or confusion and points out the blatantly obvious thing between them. Whether they scream it out in frustration, or say it in a deadpan manner or even with a little laugh and tilt of the head. Just looking at someone, realizing what do I have to lose at this point? And just saying “Dude, you have to know I’m in love with you, right?” My heart does a little flutter every time.

during the cloning arc of Danny, there's at least ONE clone that escaped without Vlad's knowledge. It was a bit more cunning and smart and knew that they had to get away.

The thing is, this clone Danny isn't a halfa at all, its a full on human. Alive and not half dead.

But it is sick and frail so when this clone Danny manages to get to the doorstep of Gotham, it was surprising.

lets call clone Danny as Daniel since it was the name that Vlad mostly used in his mutterings that Daniel caught on.

And while Daniel is in Gotham, sickly and lying on one of the rooftops, he met a vigilante with a red helmet.

"What the-?" Red Hood questioned when he saw Daniel's mouth dripping green blood or some kind of goop, which in turn reminded Red Hood of the Lazarus Pits.

"Who are you, kid?" Red Hood crouches down slowly to Daniel but the boy only turned his back on him, coughing and wheezing, "Hey! What happened to you?!" alarmed and confused, Red Hood shakes the boy gently. His fingertips could easily felt the cold coming off from Daniel's body.

And when Daniel stopped coughing, he faced Red Hood with a tired smile, "I'm fine." Daniel answered, "But I can't be here forever..." he added before coughing up some more of those green goop.

"Hold on, kid." Red Hood said, "I'll get you some help." but Daniel stopped him from leaving.

"Don't. I know when my time is up." Daniel said, "I'm just glad that I get to explore this far..." he wheezes out, "Don't feel bad tho... I'm just a clone..." Daniel stopped breathing.

And Red Hood thinks he's Tim's clone.

so one time i got bit by a brown recluse which is one of the only types of spider in my area that's actually dangerous and at first i didn't know what had happened to me, only that it was nasty. the swelling wasn't going down and the wound started to get ugly. i don't want to like get into the details because that's gross but it got to the point 2 weeks later that i was worried enough to go to the doctor, which i hate doing.

i am not afraid of spiders but other people are so i'd been covering it with this big ole square bandage (i needed more landscape coverage than a simple bandaid) and sat in the university medical waiting room, kicking my heels and playing BOTW. the nurse who admitted me was like, oh, we have got to get Tom to cover this one. she wrote spider bite under my ticket.

i waited in the near-empty building for like an hour and then nurse tom shows up in spiderman scrubs, out of breath. "sorry," he says, "i saw - your slip - and I had," he heaves in a breath, "to run home and. get. these scrubs. i literally. ran. felt like a job. for. spiderman."

i laugh. he puts his hands on his knees, thumbs-ups at me. fishes a pamphlet out from under his clipboard that basically says spiders can be scary but you don't need to be scared, there's very few dangerous spiders in new england. "honestly," he wheezes, "we probably don't need to get you into an exam room. just..." he waves his hand at the pamphlet, "read that."

i look down at my arm. then back at him in his scrubs. and then down at my arm. i like that he made an effort to make a joke, but now it does not feel like a good joke, because they are mistaking my calm for a lack of injury. "can i. like. at least show you the bite?"

he gives me kind of a weird look, which is fair, but then says. "if. i mean, if you have to."

i peel the bandage off. his face goes green.

"oh," he says.

"yeah, man."

"a... spider bit you?" his voice is high and tight and trembling. he backs up a few steps.

"i think a brown recluse," i offer. "i know it's nasty, sorry."

"excuse me for a moment." he looks over to the administering nurse on the other side of the small room. "i need to find someone else to take care of you."

the administering nurse smiles over to us with a degree of pleasure that is almost salivating. for a moment, like a window opening, i am briefly aware of what must be a psychic message floating amongst the in-between. her jaguar teeth all say this is like a party for me and i know exactly what i'm doing.

"oh no, tom," she says, grinning. "i gave her to you specifically."
