headcanon that being in the fellowship is the catalyst for a lot of legolas’s self discovery and growth

the first huge chunk of his life he was under a shit load of pressure, son of the king. leading hunting parties. participating in royal political theater.

these things are stressful, and legolas found himself growing to fit the mold; he was quiet, serious, and as stern as an elven leader had to be.

but suddenly he’s in the fellowship and he’s around all these random mortals who are filled with so much personality and color and life! they are so different from all the elves he’s ever known! and at first it is so shocking that he goes fully silent as he comes to terms with the fact that people like this can actually exist

and then slowly, he comes into himself. he finds himself smiling at merry and pippin, laughing when he understands the joke! he harmonizes with aragorn as they sing dunnedain songs (they sound much more joyful than the elven ballads he’s used to) . he looks at the stars with frodo and they take turns making up lines of silly poetry to describe them.

he is touched by sam’s simple kindness when he offers him the last piece of his jelly tart. he is inspired by stories of boromirs casual wildness, and his affinity for chaotic nights at the tavern with his mates. he is intrigued by gandalf, who alternates between the old stern wizard and the jolly old man who is eager to poke fun and create riddles.

but most of all, he finds himself in gimli.

gimli, who infuriated him, excited him, confused him, inspired him, consumed his every waking thought

gimli, who he exchanged snarky, charged comments with from the get go, and taught him how to let his inner diva OUT. legolas had never thought of himself as sassy, but the more comfortable he got with gim, the more he felt free to speak his mind

gimli, who taught him how to overcome prejudice to see the beauty in others and himself.

gimli, the first person who’d ever flirted with him, and with whom he had tried his best to flirt back (though his heart pounded and his cheeks flushed). gimli, who filled him with complete and total yearning, and craving, and awakened a need he never knew existed.

gimli, a fierce warrior with a tender heart, who showed him it was possible to be an absolute beast on the battlefield, and also the little spoon at night

gimli, who taught him to love and be loved in return

Why did you change Rin's personality into one that's more insecure and way too possessive towards Miku? It's really off-putting. Tim has no idea whether to laugh or cry. Bruce sends him away from Gotham to stay safe from Red Hood, yet who is standing there, in the Titan Tower, but the man himself. And if he was attacking or something then fine, he could deal with it. But no, the man is standing there, in the kitchen, cooking like it’s an everyday thing. Like sure he’s cooking angrily and Tim swears he can see some sort of eye glow in the helmet, but it’s not like he’s actually threatening any of them?? The literal crime lord has been hissing about them not having any food and being out of medical supplies and who decided to leave a bunch of teens alone to take care of themselves. Which. Rude, he’s been taking care of himself for years, and both Raven and Beast Boy have too! What type of scheme is this?!

Jason was going to go through with his attack on the Tower, he really was. But seriously, they didn’t even have any medical supplies, their cupboards were practically empty of food, and they didn’t even have any cleaning supplies. For fuck’s sake he’d gotten in so easily and it was a giant tower shaped like a T- everyone knew where it was! Honestly it’s not his fault the pit rage went from being pissed to the literal child- which uh, huh he’ll have to freak out about that later- to raging about how he took better care of the alley kids than the heroes were taking care of their kids so guess whose going to have to fucking step up!

One of my favorite madohomu scenes of all time takes place in the anime, episode 8 at the 17:50 mark to be exact. After Homura kills Kyubey before Madoka can make a contract with him, she approaches Madoka and asks why she's so self-sacrificial, tells her to stop demeaning herself by thinking so lowly of herself, begs her to think of the people who think the world of her, those who'd be mournful if, god forbid, anything were to happen to her, to please think of those trying to keep her safe. From Madoka's perspective, this is the first time the usually stoic, cold, and standoffish Homura is being vulnerable, open, and emotional. From Madoka's perspective, this is the first time she's seen someone so seemingly brave as Homura cry. The first time she's ever heard her voice above her usual calm and collected tone. This is the first time Madoka sees Homura so upset, so frustrated, so afraid.

Madoka, whom has never met this girl aside from seeing her in a strange dream, sees Homura fall to her knees and cry and, as if on instinct, Madoka stands up to comfort her.

And, in this moment, Madoka has some moment of clarity, recognition, familiarity. It goes by pretty fast, but if you capture this moment frame by frame, you can tell in the way her face changes and she stares at seemingly nothing. She goes from staring down at Homura worriedly to getting caught off guard by something. It kind of looks like she's looking at something off screen until a black void of static accompanied by a low buzzing plays for a brief second before Madoka, out of nowhere, asks "Have we met before?" Then you realize she was experiencing that feeling of familiarity from seeing Homura so upset. "Wait, have I done this before. Have I comforted this girl before? Have I seen her cry before?"

This scene is so powerful to me, because this Madoka doesn't know Homura. Or, at least, she shouldn't. Yet, when she sees this girl fall to her knees crying, when she sees this seemingly emotionless girl so broken and fragile, and more importantly as soon as Madoka stands to comfort her, she has this sense of "Have we met before? Have we done this before? Have I seen you like this before?"

Even in her "dream," she wanted to protect Homura, wanted to stop what was happening in front of her: Homura giving up her life to defeat Walpurgisnacht and failing. That's the reason why she agreed to become a Magical Girl in the "dream"; she wanted to change the outcome of Homura's fate. In the first timeline, she saved Homura from a Witch. Despite Homura wishing to be the one protecting Madoka, the moment Homura lets her brave facade down, shows vulnerability, is afraid and frustrated and upset, Madoka stands up to do what comes naturally to her: comforting and protecting Homura. And that's what sparks her recognition. She stands to comfort her because deep down she feels like she knows her from somewhere, that they've met somewhere, sometime before. Throughout the anime, when Sayaka and Mami were antagonistic towards Homura, Madoka kept saying "Is she really that bad?" and "I feel like we could all be friends" and "What if she's telling the truth?" Because she's known her throughout 100 time loops, she's protected her throughout 100 time loops, she's loved her throughout 100 time loops. This is kind of an underrated madohomu moment yet it's one of the most solidifying on Madoka's end.

I always get a bit sad when I read fanfics figuring the iconic first meeting of Jason and Bruce, and people write Batman growling at a child, threatening him and scaring him on purpose.

No! That's Batman! He cares about kids, it's why he is doing this, because he doesn't want kids to go through the same pain as he did! When he sees a kid doing a crime, especially young kids, he doesn't treat them at all like an adult. He is worried about their living conditions for a kid this young to turn to crime, he wants to help them! He even go see them as Bruce Wayne to help and listen to their problems. When he faces a kid who murdered his parents in Gotham Knight, he is heartbroken that a child did that, and he only wants to get the kid help. In the same comics, when he realizes the enemy he is facing is the ghost of a child, he totally changes his behavior to help this kid.

But also, that's not how he originally reacted to Jason stealing his tires. I know DC rewrote that meeting multiple times, making Bruce awful to this kid, but that's not how it happened originally, and if you are going for a "good parent" version of Bruce, you should use that one as a template.

Batman LAUGHS upon seeing the batmobile without tires. And he isn't threatening Jason, he is acting like an adult who caught a kid doing something they shouldn't (he is literally standing like a parent catching you in the act, with his hand on his hip), telling Jason to give him back his tires. Of course, Jason is scared, because that's the Batman, but it's not because of Bruce's behavior. And Batman doesn't run after him, because that would be scary, and finally shows himself when Jason arrives home because "Kiddo, you cannot be living like this. Let me help you."

Batman laughs, Batman smiles, he loves this lil son of a gun that has the guts to steal his tires, hit him and call him Big Boob.
