are we not gonna talk about the sheer amount of cunt served by 92sies crutchy. not only did he probably try to give snyder polio by spitting in his food, he also implied he was a rat right before throwing him in a prison wagon in front of a huge crowd. andrew keenan-bolger was good as crutchie but he will never compare to how cunty marty belafsky was in that role. the og. the icon

we can talk about buy gold bye all day but in retrospect this is my favourite bill moment from dreamscaperers, because he is having One Of The Days Ever
like you get summoned back to gravity falls for the first time in thirty years, already an excellent start (it is good to be back!)
and to make it even better, you know that one human you had every kind of relationship at once with and whose mind you know inside out but then he realised your true plans and tried to break up with you so you spent several weeks torturing him and now he's been MIA for said thirty years? of the all the jobs this random kid could possibly want from you, you're being hired to go break into his mind and steal from him
(been there done that kid!)
except plot twist! they don't actually mean that guy. they mean his identical twin brother who's been assuming his identity since then
and we get to watch bill have the realisation in real time that not only has he just worked out exactly what happened, he is the only person other than stan himself who has enough information to do so!
(this should be fun)
#just the haha! wait...#and the eye widening#like i know the writers didn't know the full story at this point but GOD they laid the groundwork#i also love the 'ah stan's family we meet at last!' later in the episode but it didn't quite work in this clip#like. you KNOW he's not talking about stanley#side note no one ever explains to gideon that stanley's name is not stanford#he might have worked it out from watching the two argue over the zodiac? but up until then he didn't even know there were two of them#and it's just very funny to hear him still call stanley stanford even in stanchurian candidate. an episode that ford is in!#gravity falls#dreamscaperers#bill cipher#stanford pines#stanley pines#gideon gleeful

i am hyped for grrm's mean hotd blog but the fact that those twt users who have been complaining about the show since before S1 even aired are going to see it as a validation of all the hate-mongering they've been doing for years .... that's going to get so annoying so quickly lmao
#like he's already said he was fine with adaptational differences and even endorsed them#the problem with S2 broadly isn't the groundwork laid in S1 it's the failure to follow through on any of it

I give you one better, I invite you to avoid the negativity and tell us. What would be the perfect DP/SP cannon comic for you? Like that topics and motivations and even silly jokes would make you fill with joy and happiness and fun reading it?
Also if you could choose any writer to do it, who would it be?
for real the spideypool book of all time is avenging spider-man #12-#13, for wade and peter's ridiculous dynamic where - unlike most of deadpool and spider-man's team-ups, spider-man is honestly in good spirits and good humour, and is rolling with the punches.
i think that's the big reason why i love this particular team-up so much - it's not as mean-spirited as literally every other spider-man and deadpool routine, where spider-man is kind of excessively mean to deadpool. like sure, wade and peter aren't friends, exactly, but peter's not excessively mean, and they just have this delightful little dynamic where - like, peter's disappointed, but i don't know, it doesn't feel belittling to me. even when peter's disappointed.
it's the most likeable peter's ever been in any spider-man and deadpool team-up. he really really has a likability issue in every single spider-man/deadpool team-up. in every single one, save for this one, peter is just... really unlikeable in the spider-man/deadpool dynamic. he's always holier-than-thou, and i really can't stand it.
so if there were a spider-man and deadpool book i'd want to read - it would have to have wade and peter on equal footing. none of this holier-than-thou stuff - peter doesn't see himself as superior. he probably will still see deadpool as a nuisance, but he doesn't think he's better than wade. i'd want it to stay street-level. i'd want a lot of opportunities for each of them to surprise each other with their abilities - i'd want wade to constantly be taken aback by peter's brilliance, and i'd want peter to be taken aback by how sharp wade is. i'd want that respect between them to grow, over time. equal footing. a balance of powers. i really don't think it's fair that, kind of consistently, peter's always held the power in the dynamic and wade's kind of always a bit of a doormat with peter. so - i want them to dismantle that hero-worship dynamic, and put them on equal footing.
god. and the series has to be funny. dear god let it be funny. the sm/dp series was just - not funny. i can't remember a single joke that landed, for me. if there's anything a spider-man and deadpool book has to be, it's funny. please. deeeeaaaar god please.
#sci speaks#i don't know about which writer i'd pick.#i'd say i'd love a book done by niceiza but like#i don't know. yes he technically ESTABLISHED the spideypool dynamic. he wrote the first spider-man and deadpool canonical meeting.#he laid the groundwork. but i don't know if it's a dynamic he's very passionate about.#he's my favourite deadpool writer but. i don't know if i want to see his particular wade interacting with peter.#i just don't think they'd get along.#niceiza's wade is kind of too much of an insecure baby. and there's always an imbalance of power when he writes wade.#thinking of my silly little reference to wil.e coyote in tunnel o' love. that's nicieza's wade.#an unfortunate figure who kind of always embarrasses himself.#that's not the wade i want to see paired up with peter.#with cable yeah. that's funny.#but with peter? i don't know. i don't think peter should hold the power in the dynamic. it should be a balance of powers.#nate can be the straight man. but i don't really like seeing peter be reduced to the straight man.#he's not. he's not the straight man. he needs to be as much of a goofball and as much of an embarrassment as wade.#yeah. yeah.

Musical Touken Ranbu: Michinooku ~ Hitotsu Hachisu (Michinooku ~ A Single Lotus)
Here we go! Only a few days after the archive release and toumyu's ninth anniversary (congratulations!)
Michioku, or Michihasu, is a myu I have many conflicting feelings about, both positive and negative. However, I do believe that with the right amount of care in the next Mika-related story myu, the negative can still be cleared. Plus, I'm glad about a lot of things being re-established. The writer does need to step up her game a little on the plot-writing side of things, as well as the understanding-and-respecting-past-myu side of things, but as long as she does, this can still be given a proper place within what was already established.
Keep in mind that these are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku and the bluray respectively. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.
You can find the subtitles and my TL notes document here!
#touken ranbu#toumyu#water's translations#michioku#michihasu#how do I put this#seeing as myu's director Kayano has said in an interview right before Michioku that Kogi and Mika have a special bond#different from other swords-- and then they try to speedrun *Tsuru* and Mika having a what feels like it was intended to be#even greater relationship using a song called Kage Futatsu where KOGI'S signature song from Utaawase was Futatsu no Kage???#I SINCERELY want to believe it's incompetence rather than the writer deliberately pulling the rug from under Kogi's feet#bc the alternative is just cruel#I don't particularly mind the relationship Mika and Tsuru have in this play but I feel that not for a moment Kogi and kara respectively#were considered in the writing#anyway my final verdict is that this myu is what too many people think tsuwa is: the divorce myu (between Mika and Tsuru this time)#in all cases I hope myu can bring Shirakawa Yuki in again like with Datemyu just to offload myu's already deathly busy writer (she's done#5 myus in a month before which is just insane) because I feel this just isn't sustainable with the amount of carefulness a long-running#franchise like myu demands and the *writing* quality (not the production quality AT ALL Michioku's is great) is suffering for it.#like sure Michioku is loaded with references but they're references that either don't serve *Michioku's own* plot or their treatment shows#a lack of understanding of the work it's referencing-- for example Kashuu calling upon atsu's “This is how the shinsengumi fights!” actuall#goes completely contrary to the lesson he's supposed to have learned from atsuibun: that swords aren't disposable and that he has duties as#both soldier (captain in atsu) and as COMRADE and he makes the (already highlighted in Michioku!) dumb decision of butting in without#thinking-- and with that framed against manba's breaking trauma as well! He's supposed to have learned to stay rational and consider both#duties yet here he is ---BECAUSE of the reference--- completely leaning on the pre-atsu-development side of the scale#as if Ishi's words went one ear in one ear out. And yes the scene by itself could've worked as a subversion to show Kashuu makes the#'irrational' decision against what Ishi taught him to consider precisely because he cares for the people he's protecting but there is NO#groundwork laid at all for that in the rest of Michioku! This is what I mean with the carelessness of the references and the lack of#consideration for what prior myus were trying to SAY and ACHIEVE which is insane because she was the lyricist for those#it's more a collage of feelings provided through a set of characters calling back to the scripts of prior myu rather than#a story that evokes feelings bc the humans in it walk forward and act upon-- interact with-- the scenery on the road as left by prior human

"distant relative" i assume you are referring to my father?
#happy father's day everyone!#mine was fucking terrible he received a C- rating at best#and that is me being fucking GENEROUS with the grading rubric yeah#anyway i love and respect anyone who feels the need to quietly publicly shame their negligent father figure on anonymous social media#there should be a RateMyProfessor website but it's RateMyParents#it would serve no possible practical purpose but it would be as potentially psychologically scalding as a ghost pepper and/or supernova so.#do it#.......that could actually be so interesting#comparing and contrasting the reviews of siblings and half-siblings and step-siblings#the differences in parental perception between the Black Sheep/Scapegoat and the Golden Child and the Middle Child and So On#(on that note why are the two main idioms for being blacklisted in your own family both *livestock* related who laid that groundwork)#ANYway. back to RateMyFather#this one dad gets nine 5-star reviews and one absolutely SCATHING no-stars review#which mathematically leaves him with a 4.5 rating BUT#the main thing you are left wondering is how did one dad end up with TEN reviews that is in itself an Indictment

so bc im insane, this actually shouldnt be seen as a joke or a goof and should instead be seen as a legit part of mandalorian culture
in the republic commando books one of the clones-turned-mandos had special needs due to a TBI he received in battle. while they didnt modify his helmet, they wrote on his helmet to indicate that he had been injured:
Parja reached up and patted [Fi’s] helmet. She’d painted it with the Mandalorian letters M and S for mir’shupur — brain injury — just like a battlefield medic might do for triage purposes. On Mandalore, the symbol functioned as a blend of a general warning to give the wearer a break, and a medal for combat service.
— Republic Commando: Order 66, pp 39
so mandalorians, as much as they are a warrior people, do not stigmatize, nor misunderstand, mental illness or special needs. they, in fact, do understand that people have their limits, and that not everyone is the same.
anyone can become a mandalorian. no matter your gender or race or limitations. what matters is your dedication to your family, clan, and people. so yes, they would, in-universe, allow modifications for any mandalorians that couldn't wear the classic helmet.
#K*ren Tr*vis might be uuuhhhhhhhhh Not Great and the books are also Not Stellar in a lot of ways#but the groundwork she laid for the mandalorians and their culture was incredibly open minded all things considered#the mandalorian#mando'ade#vode#the mandalorian series tag

yet another “quadrant understanding” post ten years too late to actually affect how anyone understands quadrants 💔
#sometimes i feel like i am perhaps talking to a wall because like#yes while a lot of people still in the fandom are saying things like moirallegiance is platonic and i want to (gently) hit them w pillows#most of the annoying shit im coming across in fics and posts had the groundwork laid for it literally OVER A DECADE AGO#so like. is it a lost cause to even try and be a homestuck ‘tide turner’ in fucking 2024#what tide am i turning#most of these people are fucking gone now LMAO#quadrants#op#hsmeta

I also cannot stress enough that not getting to hold the baby is in fact what makes JGY evil in CQL. Yes, JGY's been framed with some ominous cellos when he is just sitting there, but up till this point it's all been in conjunction with something JGS is sponsoring. He is perfectly happy planning that wedding! No self-generated schemes are afoot! Then JGS doesn't let him hold his nephew and immediately he starts mentally setting up an implausible plot-altering row of murder dominoes.
#what inspires him to ask to hold JL is that LXC and LWJ have arrived and JGS has to greet them#so JGY is so taken with the baby that he is CHOOSING BABY JIN LING TIME OVER TIME WITH ER-GE#yes earlier in the episode they laid the groundwork for JGS not valuing him at all but not holding the baby is what seals it#he's still valid tho#masala necromancy wizard hour

Question abt drawing: been trying to attempt learning how to draw forever but I always have trouble getting over the obstacle of having to learn/study things like anatomy and shading, which then causes me to stop drawing and have a harder time picking it back up. I know it's important for improving your art and yourself as an artist but I can't help but see it as tedious and overwhelming, especially the anatomy since it's more on the science side of things and science is not my thing lol. Do you have any advice on how to get over it or work thru it?
i think there's a couple facets to this question. firstly i'd recommend you consider what exactly your end goal is in learning how to draw: do you specifically want to be able to produce anatomically accurate figures and true-to-life shading, or do you just want to be able to make something for fun that looks good to you? one of the most helpful things I ever learned at art school was that accuracy doesn't matter if it looks good. 99% of my art isn't strictly anatomically accurate, and part of that is stylization, but even when i'm doing realistic figure drawings i like to lengthen limbs and exaggerate curves in order to make my drawings look better. So if your only real goal with art is to make something that looks good and enjoy the process, my first piece of advice would be to stop worrying so much about stuff like perfect accuracy! if you use references and keep pushing yourself, the skill and understanding you're looking for will come naturally with time. before I was ever classically trained, I got pretty far just by drawing my favorite characters in different poses and situations over and over again, and that experience laid the groundwork for when classical training did become available to me. Just because you're not necessarily doing serious figure studies doesn't mean you're not getting valuable practice--what it means is that you're having FUN while you're practicing, and having fun with your art is the most important thing!!!
Secondly, you mentioned anatomy being on the science side of things, which suggests to me that you may be looking in the wrong places when trying to do more serious anatomical study. if you look up 'anatomy' or anything similar on a web search engine, you're likely going to get a lot of very complex scientific illustrations. and while those aren't necessarily devoid of artistic value (I took a class all about scientific anatomy for artists last semester and it was GREAT) for a beginner who's just trying to learn how to make a body look like a body, they're not what you're looking for. what is going to be much more helpful for you are sites like line of action or quickposes. these sites are basically repositories of figure drawing images, and you can set them to automatically switch to a new image after a certain interval of time. if you really, desperately want to improve your anatomy specifically, what I recommend is going to one of these sites, setting it to the shortest interval possible, and trying to copy the pose as closely as you can before time is up. this might sound crazy, since the shortest interval is usually somewhere between 30-60 seconds, which obviously isn't enough to get much down. but what this will do is force you to look at how these models' bodies are constructed and translate it onto the page quickly and without overthinking it. be warned, your first maybe hundred of these are going to look like shit. but if you do this enough, you're eventually going to gain an intrinsic sense for 1. how a body works and 2. the easiest way for you personally to construct a body when drawing it. even without knowing the scientific names and anatomical rules, you're going to get a FEEL for how things work, which is much more important and useful to you as a character artist.
Finally, i think the most important thing to remember is that no art is bad art, even if you're not satisfied with the end product. when you're first starting out as an artist, you're going to make things that don't look right and you're going to be frustrated with yourself because of it. i vividly remember crying over a sketchbook at maybe age 11 or 12 because I was so upset i couldn't put exactly what was in my head on the page. Skill comes with time and practice and that is a frustrating fact of life, but no time spent doing something you enjoy and are passionate about is wasted. It might look bad now but you are laying the groundwork for your future success, and someday you're probably going to look back on your past work and say "I can't believe I thought this looked bad back then. for my age and my skill level i was doing AMAZING." And as previously mentioned, it's a lot less discouraging when something looks bad if you had fun making it, so try to have FUN with your art. draw things you enjoy and are passionate about and don't worry if it looks bad. focus on the experience, the skill will come in time. you've got this!!
#i've had this account since i was 15 years old. you can literally go back and see my ass did NOT know what i was doing#but i was having fun and the weird stuff that i was trying that maybe didn't always look right was what laid the groundwork#for my current skills!#i know this advice is basically just 'practice' which is what everyone says but it's important to me that you know#that practice should be FUN too. practice isn't drawing boring shit over and over again before you get to draw the fun stuff#practice is drawing the fun stuff that is maybe a little out of your comfort zone and maybe it looks a little wonky but you did it#and you had fun doing it! and now you'll be a little more prepared to do it again in the future!#asks

@proshipper-on-ship replied:
The man felt a tiny amount of guilt after killing Alastor's mother (forgive me I can't spell worth a damn) so he took Alastor in afterwards, though he didn't do much "raising" aside from making sure Alastor had food at least once a day and a roof over his head even if it might've been just a shed near a dog kennel, and often still kept getting drunk and ordering Alastor around, calling Alastor a busboy or something like that for when he wants something fetched
You, my friend, are a genius.
Alastor decides to play the long game, doing everything this bastard asks of him. He's quiet. He's polite. He's obedient. Bit by bit, he endears himself to the man, never complaining even when the old bastard becomes drunk and belligerent and violent. Alastor just smiles and takes it all in stride.
Years pass. Over time, Alastor charms his way out of the shed and into a proper bedroom. The man didn't have any children (illness and bad luck) and his wife left to take care of her ailing sister some years past and never returned. So it's just Alastor and Nicaise's murderer in the house, along with the staff.
Not too hard to convince the old bastard to put him in the will. Unofficially adopting him.
Alastor is sixteen when he slips the poison into his captor's drink.
He watches the man choke and sputter, clutching his throat, reaching for a bell to call the servants. Alastor calmly moves the bell out of arm's reach and watches the light slowly fade from his eyes.
Once the old bastard is cold Alastor gets up and heads off to bed.
He's awoken by the sound of the servant screaming in the morning.
