DP x DC Dead Soulmates
This is probably the only soulmate au I'll ever do so enjoy
Soulmate au where your soul mark turns black when your soulmate dies
Danny and Jason are soulmates. The problem? Both of their soul marks are black. Sure, they came back, but not in a typical way, so each thinks the other is dead
So what do we get? Longing. Two guys longing for a love they thought lost to them, thinking tenderly of a future they don't think they could have, even without the added craziness of their lives. Standing on rooftops, smoking in the cold november air, their breath indistinguishable from the smoke, their spent cigarettes flicked off the edge like discount shooting stars, lamenting their fates, probably to each other for the dramatic irony of it all
they both get it. The quiet kind of grief, longing for somebody they never got the chance to know, thinking about how things could have been different, how the should have been different. That understanding is what draws them towards each other
and then? Jason sees Danny's mark, Jason shows his own, they stare at each other, silent for a moment, before arms wrap around the other, lips pressed together, and quiet tears fall like rain to the rooftop beneath their feet
longing, angst, and then happy ending
and you can thank this song for inspiring the mood for this

DC premise I don’t see enough of
Massive Villain attacks a significant public event.
JL dealing with actual threat, but Titans or YJ are stuck on crowd control, including wrangling person-of-interest Bruce Wayne’s nepo-brat.
This entitled squirt does not seem to care that they’re here to protect him. He keeps trying to give them the slip.
Mostly they just wish Robin was here because he’d know how to Deal with this conniving little hellion.

hi!! so there are a lot of improbabilities that make this hypothetical unlikely but: if kabru had met toshiro first & recruited him (toshiro being so passive + not with a clear goal would have helped there & kabru is ptsd-driven but very noble in his goals which can be explained) AND they got all the way down to the bottom (idk if i believe in them...but hypothetically!) would the winged lion find either of them to be a good target for next dungeon lord? one over the other? im thinking kabru has the intensity and complexity of desire necessary but i can't imagine what it would look like if he became lord of the dungeon. do you have any thoughts?
Good morning. This is a very fun thought experiment!
(side note: I got a second anon this morning with a very similar request? not sure if related. I'm gonna let this answer speak for both of them)
Toshiro sure would have had a different time of it if Kabru had gotten to him first, huh? On the one hand, Toshiro seems to like Kabru; I think it's sweet that Kabru seems to gravitate towards hanging out with him when he isn't with the rest of the main cast. So they probably would've been good in a party together.
On the other hand, Toshiro never would have met Falin and fallen in love with her. Even if she didn't reciprocate in the end, I don't think he regrets anything that happened. Even his difficult friendship with Laios was ultimately positive (for both of them!).
They definitely would not have made it to the deeper floors, I think Senshi is crucial to achieving that ... but this is a hypothetical.
I'm puzzling over the question of Toshiro, because he is a secondary character and there's only so much we know about his motivations. His big one in canon is to save Falin, even if it means all he can do is put her to rest. Without that, without her, what sort of desires does he have?
Toshiro originally came to the Island because of a demand from his father: for one of his three sons to find "something interesting" enough on their travels to bring back home that would convince their capricious bastard father to make them his heir over the others. So they're all off on their separate training journeys with their respective retainers with the added caveat that they can't return without something to impress their father. It's implied that after falling in love with Falin, Toshiro had wanted to bring back home a wife.
Since he's said to inherit the family after he returns home without her anyway, I've been assuming that the "thing" Toshiro ended up bringing to Toshitsugu Nakamoto was the story of the dungeon, the demon, and his friend Laios, king of a risen country and Devourer of All Things Horrible.
Anyway, the things we know about Toshiro's home life are kind of fucked. It's amazing he turned out to be so nice. He's always been a shy, sensitive person, and he was sickly as a child; Maizuru cared for him despite her spymaster duties and ended up filling a motherly role for him, even though Toshiro's mother is still alive. Historically, it wasn't uncommon for noble children to be raised more closely by their governesses/household retainers than their parents, so perhaps something similar was happening here (disclaimer that I don't know much about feudal Japan specifically).
We know that Maizuru loves Toshiro and dotes on him, but she's also very strict and frankly terrifying; she used the same Hag summon that she was monitoring Izutsumi with on Toshiro as a child just to keep him from wandering off. We also know that when he found out that Maizuru was having an affair with his father, it put a distance between them. Whether this is because he felt betrayed on his mother's behalf or because he dislikes his father that much, or something else, is unclear.
Toshiro was childhood friends with Hien, but as they got older, she had to take his place as one of his retainers, which seems to have severed that closeness. Canonically, he isn't close to his two younger brothers either. Toshitsugu literally bought Inutade and Izustumi (the latter as a drunken "gift" for Maizuru!). We see that Toshiro is uncomfortable with this, but doesn't know how to approach the issue. He lets Izutsumi go the second she's out of sight for five minutes, which implies to me that he really wanted the excuse to do so. Inutade is harder, because she loves being with the Nakamoto family and hero-worships Toshiro's father.
...all this to say, Toshiro has complicated relationships with his family and household. There's love there, but also a lot of coldness enforced by the upper-class need for propriety. Toshiro falls in line and acts as the proper stoic samurai, but he chafes at this; he envies Laios's gift for feeling and expressing things openly and readily. I think that's what the Winged Lion would prey on, given the chance.
I don't think he would be prime dungeon lord material, but if it came to that, I could see the Lion tempting Toshiro with a kinder vision of his life, one where he and his little brothers weren't pitted against one another, where his family was warmer, where there weren't barriers of class between him and his retainers, where he was allowed to be more himself.
Now ... Kabru.
Kabru is interesting because, since his ultimate goal is to seal the dungeon and eradicate monsters, I imagine that meeting a demon would be like a guy who's given a genie and wants to wish for no more genies. And if said genie is trying to take over the world via wishes, the genie is a bit screwed. I really think that Kabru is the character who would stump the demon(s) the most, despite his complex desires, because they are antithetical to the demon. Laios also had complex desires, but the Winged Lion lured him and set him up as the hero of a fake prophecy because a lot of Laios's desires revolved around monsters, so his wants aligned perfectly with the demon's methods. Oh you want monsters? That's great, they're the things I use to solve most of my problems anyway.
Even in the absence of prior knowledge of demons, I think Kabru's back would be up as soon as the Winged Lion tried speaking to him. Kabru's insight is almost preternatural, and he's well-versed in persuasive speaking thanks to his own silver tongue. He would mistrust the Lion immediately, especially considering its monster-like form.
Giving the demons bestial appearances is an artistic choice on Kui's part, so I don't think there's any indication that the Winged Lion & co can't look human, but the Lion might have been constrained both by Thistle's seals on it and the need to maintain the lie that it's just the innocent guardian deity of the Golden Country. If it could, I think it would try to look less monstrous, with Kabru.
Still, the point of the demons, I see, is that anyone can be tempted, anyone can be manipulated, because we are all full of buried desires that can be unearthed, and wanting things and having to defend them make you susceptible to manipulation.
Consider what Mithrun told Kabru: they keep the knowledge of demons secret because knowing the truth would not stop people from trying to have their wishes granted. After all, Mithrun was a Canary, but he fell for its temptation anyway. I've seen people characterize this as a sort of rock bottom decision, and maybe that's true, but I also pin it on his toxic inferiority/superiority complex. That's exactly the kind of thing that makes you think you're built different.
Would Marcille have stopped before unsealing the Winged Lion if Mithrun(/Kabru) had actually gotten to sit down with her for five minutes and explain why becoming dungeon lord would be a very bad idea? Maybe. Or maybe her desperation, and her own pride, would have made her decide that she knew better, that she'd be careful, that she'd go in with a plan and definitely get what she wanted with no dire consequences.
I think Kabru could be desperate enough to make a similar decision, even if his desires were antithetical to the demon. And the demons have an advantage over the aforementioned genie simile: their ability to eat desires.
If the Winged Lion were smart, it wouldn't let Kabru seal it away like Thistle. Given the opportunity, its best chance for dealing with Kabru would have been to immediately eat his desire to stop another Utaya.
I'm gonna plug this wonderful and tragic little one-shot someone wrote recently about the dungeon lord Kabru hypothetical: This place is not a place of honor.
#oh my god someone fucking shoot me with a tranq dart PLEASE#Dungeon Meshi spoilers#dungeonposting#musings with Dea#I hope someone writes a hypothetical party comp switch AU fic one day#like Laios's own AU of getting eaten in Falin's stead#and Falin going in to rescue him ... but what if Marcille came with her? and Toshiro? and they met Senshi?#or an idea I've mentioned before: Laios and Kabru would be an excellent tank/DPS combo#Kabru's party is really cohesive and good at fighting! they just don't have monster knowledge#if Laios were there to point Kabru's blades in the right direction he'd be absolutely lethal#anyway. hope this scratched that itch a bit!#sorry I didn't include more visual aids here I'm struggling today#Dea answers#Dea's anonymous friends

whats your take on the “palebird not caring about talltail leaving” scene? i always thought it was WEIRD, like yes she was a little distant because she was blatantly depressed, but not to the point where she would straight up not care about her first son leaving potentially forever?? it feels like one of those scenes the writers put in to make the The Woman look bad so the Bad Dad isnt aaaasssss bad.
I feel like many of my problems with it come from the end of TR being a mess. It sets up a ton of plot threads and either goes somewhere strange with them or drops them completely.
Palebird's is one of the ones that just gets dropped.
On one hand, I'm glad that Palebird isn't demonized, but they don't seem to know what to do with her. She's cold towards Tallkit and increasingly short and snippy as he gets older, reacts in a way that's pointed out as aloof and uncaring when he leaves and when he comes back, and Talltail takes it like betrayal when she moves on with a new mate... and then they just don't really have a thesis for that.
In the end, Talltail never stops and teases out his feelings on her, they never show a conversation where some characters talk about why she acts that way, Tallkit's upbringing isn't contrasted with his halfsib's upbringings... their last talk is actually about Shrewclaw and the kits his wife's going to give birth to. Talltail's BULLY.
This book that shows an abusive father and a nasty little jackass redeems both of these boys, making a sharp 180 to say they Weren't So Bad, but has barely any interest in Palebird. When she gives Tallstar one of his 9 lives, it's laughably short;
That's it. That's the resolution. She doesn't even act happy to see him return, they have a conversation about Talltail's bully, and then after she's dead he's like, "I'll never doubt she loves me ever again."
Like, ok? All right?? Did we just miss the falling action or did Ms. Hunter not feel like it that day?
In general I have so many feelings about Tallstar's Revenge... I can't say I HATE it because it is fun to read, and I like a lot of the things it lays down, but I can't LOVE it for how every step forward it feel like 2 steps back. And the differences in the narrative's sympathy towards Sandgorse (emotionally abusive and committing child endangerment because his son is disappointing him) vs his wife Palebird (completely unsupported while displaying a near textbook case of PPD) are like a tiny little microcosm of the problems in WC.
Sandgorse gets a whole journey dedicated towards finding out he was actually a hero who gave his life saving Sparrow, abuse forgotten, but Palebird... exists, and Talltail's mad she had new kids until he's suddenly not.
So in a nutshell, my take is that this soup is bland and watery. Look at all these complicated potential feelings they just cast out the window so they can talk about Shrewclaw the Bully and his Very Sad Death.
There's much better individual examples of how the narrative tends to treat their male and female characters (which is why I compare Sparkpelt and Crookedstar more than I compare Crookedstar and Palebird), but Palebird's a good place to talk about the pervasive disinterest that WC has in its girls. And how much of a waste it is.
#Tallstar's Revenge is one of those books that I WANT to like. There's so many things in it that are appealing to me#but they can't bring them together#It's like an itch you can't reach. Scratching it would be so satisfying... but you can't. You can't get it.#In the Wise Words of one of my favorite critics; The discussion of misogyny and bad writing are not NOT related#It's not a CAUSE of the bad writing but it's like this terrible symptom. Because a lot of bad writing comes from thoughtlessness#And when you're thoughtless to interesting potential conflicts or don't really have a conclusion in mind (or at LEAST a vague roadmap)#then you end up just. missing things like this#warrior cats analysis

More random Captive Prince thoughts, because I feel like being a sadist to all of my mutuals these books are living rent-free in my head right now. These ones are more about the plot and the worldbuilding.
Worldbuilding-wise, I loved the attention to detail, because as far as I could tell all the little details of how a medieval-ish army functions and how you would run it and what you would do with the horses and the supplies and the roads etc. etc. were pretty accurate. I mean, these books are by no means a treatise on warfare (in fact they can be delightfully pulpy, which I liked - I grew up on The Three Musketeers and the Scarlet Pimpernell and similar swashbuckling novels, and I got some of the same feelings here!), but there were details in there that most other authors don't bother to put in or inadvertently fuck up (I love ASOIAF to death but historically accurate it is not), and most of the military stuff seemed plausible enough as well, though again not described in too much detail so you can fill it in with your own assumptions or skim over if it's not something that particularly interests you. And I also loved the architectural details and could imagine everything quite well, but again, as I said previously, this may be because the author spent some time living near where I live so we've seen a lot of the same stuff probably.
Actually when I was first reading it and thinking it was going to be bad I was reading it exclusively for the architectural details lol, I was like yeah, yeah, they're all sucking each other off, but Damen please tell me again how you feel about the tiling?
What I also particularly liked is how the... scale of the conflict I guess? was refreshingly accurate for the "historical period".
The worldbuilding is a mashup of Ancient Greece and medieval France, but what it really felt like to me is a world where the Roman Empire never really consolidated to the extent that it did in our world and Italy went on into the middle ages (because these are decidedly feudal systems) with Cisalpine Gaul having the, well, Gallic culture, while the South had a Greek one. I may be thinking this because I live in Italy and so everything reminds me of Italy, but once I thought of it I couldn't unsee it.
I guess I gotta put in a cut somewhere and now's as good of a time as any?
But anyway, back to the scale of the conflict, the actual middle ages were filled with small and mid-sized countries, and petty local conflicts with family members turning onto each other over succession and stuff, and random small territories going back and forth (well, that's just Europe in general, always, TBH), and this is how it all felt like to me. Actual medieval history has a guy who started a rebellion because his brothers threw a pisspot at him and his father did nothing about it and he felt humiliated, and the war was secretly funded by his mother, so the combination of the small scale with a random local conflict that probably literally nobody cares about outside of the region we are in + everything being so intensely driven by interpersonal drama between insane people felt really authentic to me, like the kind of weird historical moment that would get turned into a funny Tumblr post. And of course the royals did a lot more sneaking around than was probably smart, but I can forgive that for the swashbuckling vibes and also because if Cleopatra could sneak into a palace in a carpet these guys can do whatever they want in my book.
Speaking of the petty interpersonal drama, I also liked the emphasis on how in this system personal reputation and the performance of kingship are king. Usually when you have a heavily political story it's much more based on the quid-pro-quo, "rational actor" kind of politics, but medieval politics also had a lot more going on in the cultural sense (and so do modern politics actually but at least pretending to be a "rational actor" IS the modern performance of leadership), and here you had people dealing political blows through meticulous management of their own and others' political reputations, which was fun to see, especially in combination with so many manipulative bastard characters. Like, how Laurent is manipulated into going to the border just because looking like a coward will lose him more political points than he can afford, and Damen's continued wearing of the slave cuff and instistence on not being served by slaves initially deals massive blows to his reputation, because these are cultures that value heroism, of one sort or another.
(And speaking of heroism, the emphasis on the physical activity-related activities that are the centerpiece of noble life in both countries were wonderful, especially since because both Ancient Greece and the European Middle Ages were really into that in their respective ways and it makes the mashup feel really well-done and coherent in how she tied it together.)
What's notable is a lack of any kind of religion, which felt particularly glaring during the whole Kingsmeet thing - in the real world there would likely be a belief in some kinda curse from the Gods or something similar to discourage the drawing of weapons, but since I'm not really religious and tend not to personally care about religion (while ofc recognizing its anthropological importance) I really didn't care and it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the series.
Still, I do have to say that the ending of the last book felt reeeeaally rushed, and that felt really glaring exactly because the rest of the series had such amazing detail work and excellent pacing and very gradual plot development.
I didn't get the part with the doctor and the letter (why didn't he say anything earlier? how would they verify the authenticity of the letter? Did anyone even have the time to READ the thing?) but I'm gonna be honest with you here, I read book 3 under a heavy fever and it was like 2 AM when I got to that part, so I'm not sure that I haven't missed something that makes it make more sense.
BUT even if that part makes sense, I feel like the Regent was dealt with far too quickly. Like in one paragraph he is in control of everything, in the next they've already beheaded him and that's it. I can imagine in my head that a lot of the nobles were probably already sick of him and took little convincing, that they were disapproving both of his meddling in foreign politics and of his likely grave breach of cultural rules via taking an aristo kid as a pet, or that he initially rationally seemed a better choice over Laurent until Laurent proved himself to be more competent and with a more competent ally, or they already had some hints about what happened that the audience didn't and the evidence confirmed what was inconclusive before.
But I feel like in a series that spends so much time detailing the shifting alliances between the characters and the public's opinion on everyone that matters? I really needed to be sold on it a bit more. Like I really needed some discussion over what to do with the Regent, I needed them to keep him in a cell for a while as they decided whether to kill him (and have the leads scared that the Regent will turn them over as Laurent often does to people), I needed them to consider the evidence just a little bit more, I needed some post mortem with the council members where they explain what was happening on their side of the things. It needed to be MUCH longer and more detailed.
Another thing I wondered at was why the Regent was so insistent to paint Laurent's collaborations with the Akielons as a bad thing when he was... also collaborating with the Akielons? Like he is foaming at the mouth calling them barbarians and accusing Laurent of sleeping with the prince-killer but it feels more like setup for Damen's big declaration of love than an actual political strategy because my brother in Christ, you are literally in the Akielon royal palace, in the middle of Akielos to which you ran after your nephew started a rebellion, with the Akielon king sitting next to you as your equal. Why do you think that you can convince your people that YOUR Vere-Akielos alliance is somehow more morally pure than Laurent's? This was also the right moment to pull out all the patricide allegations that seemed to be going around for Damen, but IIRC he didn't use that as much as he could if at all.
Since there were some Akielons in the room as well, I was also wondering WTF was Kastor doing as the Regent was shitting on his country and calling them barbarians and making it like allying with them is a grave transgression? Why was HE allowing this humiliation? It felt like a very unpolitical thing to do from a character whose strength was in his political acumen (obviously meaning the Regent, not Kastor) and the plot just let it slide by.
I feel like a lot of this is due to this being the first time that the story had to fit within the constraints of a traditional book? So it needed a decisive traditional climax and perhaps it was getting too long for a traditional format, or the author got a bit tired of it and wanted to wind it up now that she wasn't getting regular feedback as you do with serialized publishing, or she prioritized emotional impact over plot logic.
I don't know. I still think they're great books, and the conclusion was emotionally satisfying in the sense that the psychological and interpersonal threads were wrapped up impeccably, I just wanted more detail on the political side. It's still grabbed me like nothing else did for a long time, I can take a mid ending, half of my favourite series will never have one at all because the author wrote themselves into a corner and then died lol.
#captive prince#this one's a plot and worldbuilding analysis#I just have so many things to say I'm sorry ._.#they really scratched an itch#RIP to everyone who followed me for anything else (so basically everyone)

kinktober day 18: watersports
i wrote an omorashi/piss kink piece back in april (if you like you can read it here, 2390 words) and have been dying to write another lately so have some more soapghost piss content <3
additional tags: t4t ghoap (ghost top surgery, soap top surgery & phalloplasty), anal sex, pissing inside (and on)
if you would like to know more about phalloplasty and penetrative sex, click here :)
thank you to captain for this idea 🧡💛
read on AO3
captain john "soap" mactavish had always prided himself on being a man of incredibly tight self-control, thank you very much. he never did anything unless he very explicitly wanted to, and he made sure other people knew it. he prided himself on not over-indulging, found a kind of satisfaction in being able to look a thing in the face and no matter how much he might want it, just say 'no' and walk away anyway.
but everyone has a breaking point, and soap found his in lieutenant simon riley. it hadn't been a little break, either: he just hadn't been able to say no to ghost after the first time they'd had a close call on an op. they had had a rather frantic fuck after they got out of the briefing and went back to ghost's quarters; soap had told himself it was just post-close-call adrenaline and that it was a one time thing and that the next day he would tell ghost that they would never do it again.
that was six months ago.
because fuck was ghost an indulgence. maybe it was just because soap had spent his whole life denying and denying and denying himself things, but giving in to being with ghost went so far beyond just the physical pleasures of sex. no, somehow ghost knew exactly how to push every single one of his buttons and make him feel everything, good, bad, and otherwise, to the point soap thought he could let it swallow him whole. he was neck deep in ghost and didn't want it any other way.
and so the first time ghost had asked for his piss, soap hadn't been able to say no to that either.
ghost wanted every single tiny bit of john he could get at; anything he could touch or kiss or bite or lick he wanted. he'd asked soap to piss in his cunt, knelt down in the shower and asked soap to piss on his face and in his mouth, all kinds of shit but today he'd asked for something different that soap was intent on delivering.
ghost was on his back, legs wrapped around soap's waist while soap was taking his time fucking into his arse.
"please fuck me harder sir," ghost said, an edge in his voice close to a whine. "please, i want it - "
"then keep takin' it," soap cut him off. he was almost unbearably full; he'd already gotten ghost off twice, the lieutenant's cunt sloppy and wet and leaking down onto soap's cock in his arse, but he wanted to make this one last for them both: wanted to make sure ghost got every drop of piss that he wanted, and wanted to make sure that he got every bit of satisfaction from letting go and filling him up, too.
"insatiable thing," soap panted. it was getting harder to hold it with every thrust; the quick, pleasurable slaps of pressure on his abdomen were making him feel more and more like he couldn't keep holding it -
he forced himself to focus and keep waiting it out, knowing that it would be worth it to wait, he just needed to control himself -
"pleeeeeease, sir." ghost was actually whining now. "please, fuck, i want it so bad, please fill me up, please please please - "
"needy, demanding brat - " soap abruptly yanked ghost down on his cock, taking advantage of the break in ghost's concentration to push his legs back, his lieutenants ankles on his shoulders, to press in as deeply as possible.
ghost yelped at the sudden position change, hips slightly up off the bed now where soap was death gripping them to hold ghost still while he started railing him as hard as he could, struggling to forcibly maintain control of holding his piss in at the same time.
every solid smack of their bodies together had the twinging ache in soap's lower abdomen increasing more and more, pressure building up and becoming more and more painful -
ghost reached down to jerk himself off, cunt still shiny wet and the sight of ghost getting himself off yanked out the last pin that had been holding soap's self control in place.
he thrust into ghost's arsehole to the hilt and held it there, crying out at the relief. he watched greedily as ghost's whole body arched taut, so overwhelmed by the feeling of being filled up that his hand fell off his cock, limp at his side while his mouth fell open with a soft, low moan, his eyes gently closed.
"thats right, love, take it all," soap said, rubbing over ghosts abdomen with one hand. "get you nice and full, shit, gotta get you a plug to keep you that way, huh baby? good and full of me," he rambled, his hand pausing under ghosts belly button as he had a thought.
keeping ghost's hip tilted up, he slowly pulled out of ghosts arse and let his cock flop over his cunt, pissing the last of the stream over ghost's tcock and onto his stomach.
ghost looked up at where the pale gold fluid was running down him with wide eyes, letting out a small gasp at the unexpected action.
"fuck yes," he whispered, watching as soap's piss made wet paths from his cock to the scars under his pecs.
"there you go love, all for you," soap said, rubbing his dick over ghosts puffy, red arsehole.
ghost let his head fall back onto the bed. "just need you so bad, john," he said quietly.
soap hummed. "anythin', love."

Properly rewatching A Court of Fey & Flowers for the first time I forgot how good this season was it’s honestly even better on the second watch
#I’ve been on a big Jane Austen kick again recently I was in the mood for some regency#acofaf so perfectly scratches that itch man#like it’s funny and fantastic but it also hits like all of the tropes & conventions that make the genre so exciting and I fucking love it#and it’s so pretty too I think it’s still visually my favorite d20 season like the dome combined with the props and the projections#it’s all just so good#it was the season I bought a dropout sub for and it’s still one of my favorites#I really wish they’d do a valentines special or something like they did with the MisMag holiday special what I wouldn’t give#like let me see the Ruehob wedding oneshot#acofaf#dimension 20#a court of fey and flowers#spilling the Tea
