I haven’t actually thought in great detail about the planet kitty cat scar is from except for the fact that it is exactly like warrior cats and everyone there is some kind of cat and Firestar from warrior cats is real and a space traveler who revealed his story to Erin Hunter (who then went on to improvise the rest of the story after arc 1)

Mumbo is a cat but I don’t know exactly what kind. Grian is a sphinx and can only speak in riddles and rhymes. He is a general of sorts and when he’s mad at you (he is ALWAYS mad at you) it’s completely fucking incomprehensible what he’s saying he is the least understandable person in the room.

domestic cats (or the cat that became domestic cats, the African wild cat) also come from this cat planet but they as a race got sick of all the other cats and most of them just fucked off into space until they found another suitable planet (earth) and hung out forever eating garbage until domestication happened. Not to make everything about my ship, but if I don't do it no one will, so today we are making meta analysis of Boothill's faceoff match about henghill, because the differences between Boothill's stand off with Luka and his one with Dan Heng- and what you can infer about Boothill himself and what catches his eye in a person- makes me chew concrete.

JUST. I loved the scene between Luka and Boothill so much. I love how wildly unrestrained Boothill is. He really just shoved the barrel of his gun in his opponent's face and put the fear of death into him as a way to test Luka's resolve. I utterly adore him. I hope he does it again. Anyway.

When confronted with all this, Luka freezes. His stress-induced hallucinations were already bad, but you can see how they really ramp up in this match, because before, they were always something familiar. Previous enemies became Silvermanes, or Belobogian automatons, or even Cocolia. Luka is far from home for the first time in his life, and he's so terribly homesick his brain is making everything familiar, because that is what he's desperately craving right now.

But Boothill.

Boothill is something so new, and unique, and horrific and terrifying, that he becomes something entirely unknown to Luka. His hallucination manifests as Something Unto Death, as the very fear of death itself.

And this stand off (which I love so much that this is how this match progressed, because like that's literally just Boothill's in-game skill; he locks the enemy into a one-on-one duel, so this was extremely in character for him) lasts long enough that Owlbert starts having to fill in the silence over the loudspeaker,

and even Boothill himself starts trying to push Luka into making a decision one way or the other.

Given that Boothill is a hunter by trade and is proven to have all the patience to track his prey and then some, this was more for Luka's sake than any impatience on his part, to try to shove him out of his freeze reaction.

And Boothill isn't really hard to read throughout this whole exchange, he all but says outright what he's looking for.

Boothill wants to see him surpass this test and come at him! You can see it in his face when Luka finally takes a step! And in how he congratulates him!

And then he fucking shot him snxhsjksjsn

Boothill admires courage, and bravery, and decisiveness. He admires a person's ability to put their life on the line and still fight in the face of danger and overwhelming odds. Those are the things that catch his eye.

And Luka does kind of get there eventually, but it is a stalling, halting motion that gets him there, and he fell to pieces immediately afterwards. This is his first time with this, and he's still figuring it out.

Dan Heng, on the other hand.

Boothill's stand off with Dan Heng from 2.2 is so fucking far in the total opposite direction that it is HILARIOUS.

Boothill literally breaks into the Astral Express, ambushes Dan Heng, and Dan Heng still has the balls to not only demand info out of Boothill- like doesn't even ask nicely, demands it- he also just straight up calls Boothill a liar. Right to his face! And he still isn't nice about it!!

By the way, that entire conversation? This is how it takes place.

Boothill, phrasing!!

Boothill has him at gunpoint! Dan Heng does not have his weapon with him! He does not flinch, and even stands there with his arms crossed seeming simultaneously pissed and utterly unimpressed. He looks like he should be irritably tapping his foot and looking down his nose at him. Dan Heng could not give less of a shit.

For that matter, Dan Heng even turns his back and walks away from Boothill- right in the middle of him talking, too! Not a single attempt to be considerate of the man who could decide any moment he feels like decorating the wall with Dan Heng's brains.

Dan Heng is brave and courageous and completely unflappable in the face of danger. He is ruthless and decisive in how he conducts himself, even when staring down the barrel of a gun. And through his efforts in Penacony, he shows the ability to put his life on the line and fight through overwhelming odds to save his once-in-a-lifetime companions.

No wonder Dan Heng caught Boothill's eye the way he did, no wonder the two of them were working together and bantering not even minutes after Boothill pulled a gun on him haha

Thinking about my neurology appointment again, I have another weird question for y'all! My neurologist was surprised and said it was weird I was right handed, which I am assuming is because of the reflex and grip tests she did, not because I give off a left-handed kind of vibe Wait I was going to ask if it was weird that I, a non-ambidextrous person, hit and kick evenly with both right and left sides, open doorknobs with whichever hand is closer, and use the foot pedal for the sewing machine with whichever foot it ends up nearer but can't write with my left hand But I just tried it and I can write with my left hand??? Like, not as neatly or as quickly as with my right, but it's clearly legible and not difficult to do. Have I been ambidextrous this entire time??

Yeah got through the main quest with the gerudo, it wasn't painful! It wasn't even bad! Still got them outfits but for the most part it was like oh cool!

I would say a lot of that oh cool is from the fact they didn't do a lot to even fuck it up to begin with, I'm gonna be real with yall this game is NOT worth $60USD

Yoooooo I just found your Mario account and I absolutely love it! I also saw you're post about the Super Show too! I love that show so much bro it's so good! Oh but I have a question! Have you heard of Mario the music box? Thank you so much! I have wandered down the Mario and The Music Box rabbit hole before, actually. There are aspects of the game I like... as you said, there are a lot of sweet moments between Mario and Luigi, particularly at the end. The art is good, and there was clearly a lot of heart put into it.

But at the same time, with all the grimdark violence and dark magic and cycle of reincarnation stuff? It doesn't really feel like Mario to me so much as it feels like a gory anime game with a good brother relationship, that just happens to have a Mario filter slapped on it.

However, I can admire it's craftmanship! The whole project is pretty competently done from what I could tell from the let's plays... I just find it so weird that someone wrote out that kind of story for that kind of game and decided "yeah, this is a Mario game."

just think about it. young timmy, who has made a name for himself with some club bangers a la avicii (rip :( miss u) and is getting pretty popular! he's had his european tour! his songs are THE songs of frat parties across the land!

he's big enough that his label sends him on a north america tour, and maybe he is going to play a show at a music festival in st louis or something, and who does he run into the day before when he goes incognito to the first round of shows, is getting shoved around while just trying to get a beer at the beer tent but brady

brady is still captain of the ottawa senators, nhl player, etc etc, and he also -- i cannot stress this enough -- has no fucking clue who timmy is

(brady listens exclusively to mid aughts indie bangers and sappy country; he is not Hip to the Scene)

so brady just sees a very hot very german very pathetic guy and is like, well i GOTTA help this guy out and get his beer.

and then they start talking and timmy is SO cheerful and also activating the "needs taking care of" sensor in brady's brain, and meanwhile timmy clocks that brady doesn't know who he is and THATS fun because as nice as it is to be famous it's also nice to just harmlessly flirt with the very large man you've found, and one thing leads to another and they've spent the whole day together

(maybe brady protects timmy from some thrown elbows in a crowd at one of the shows. bodyguard!)

and maybe after the last show they have some inadvisable semi-public sex somewhere on the festival grounds

but they don't exchange numbers and they don't figure it's going anywhere

until the next night, when brady gets dragged by a friend to some more electronica ish shows than his usual and guess who is up on stage, looking as cheerful and handsome and game to be debauched as ever

War Games hot take? 👀

Mm. I still need to muddle it over for a while before it turns into anything significant, but it boils down to, I honestly think that people who discard the event entirely when it comes to Steph's characterization are throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

As in, I'd actually argue that it's one of the better Steph stories based on character writing alone -- death scene and all. It would've been better without that dictated plot point and there's NO justifying some of the art choices made (those torture sequences are frankly disgusting and never should've seen print), but in terms of how they're scripted? The writing's far from perfect, it'd have been better if they hadn't made her motivation for the whole thing "wanting to get Batman's attention" and stuck with something a little more in-character like trying to spitefully one-up him, but...

I feel like it's the only story that really digs into the narrative forces that drive her, or had driven her up to that point, divorced from specific external elements like her dad and her boyfriend. Things like the conflict between her unflagging self-confidence and the frustration caused by the perception that she's not progressing as fast/accepted as much as those she considers her peers, the tunnel vision she can develop when it comes to things that she wants and the obsessive lengths she'll go to to achieve her goals, her tendency to rush recklessly into situation without considering the potential fallout, and so on -- these are all aspects of Stephanie's character that had been previously established, but it feels like War Games is the story where it all really gets pushed to the foreground.

And then once the story gets going its fundamental tragedy comes in how the situation twists what had up to that time been her usual story. Up to that point, Steph had been repeated confronted with older heroes who would almost inevitably tell her to stay out of whatever danger she was sticking her nose into so she'll be safe, to which Steph would respond, "You don't tell me what to do" and get involved anyway, for better or worse.

But in War Games, when Selina finds her and puts her in the care of her friends, telling her to stay where it was safe and let the adults take care of it, Steph seems to really understand for the first time that she's right -- and sneaks out anyway, not out of petulant defiance, but because she feels responsible for the destruction and is driven to help stop it. It's really the first time it feels like she truly understands the danger she's putting herself into and chooses to do so anyway for selfless, heroic reasons without a hint of personal self-gratification. It's not about revenge on her dad or getting back at her boyfriend or showing one of those stuck-up grown-ups that she's just as good as the next caped teen, it's just about fixing her mistake, and it's that heroic instinct that tragically gets her killed.

IDK like I said I think I have to muddle it over a bit more before I can fully form it into something but it walked into my head last night and wouldn't leave.
