Hello! If I may, I’d like to make a request.
When I was little (between 4 and 8), my brother and I played Ocarina of Time constantly. It was our go-to game when hanging out. We replayed it and found all secrets and stuff. I was wondering if you could do a platonic self aware OOT!Link one shot? One where Link considers the player to be like a sibling to him since they grew up together in a way?
Thank you so much! I really enjoy your work ❤️
you're very welcome anon! this was such a sweet request to write!! I went with the post timeskip link for this seeing as I've already written one for Majora's mask link and I thought it would be more interesting to have that difference between the two pieces <3 I hope you'll enjoy this
[masterlist]
“Hey, I’ve been wanting to ask for a while… do you still have that old copy of Ocarina of time we used to play together? I’ve been kinda wanting to replay it. It’s a bit of a pain to get a new one or an emulator though so…”
“Uh? I think so, I can check in my attic later and drop it around your place tomorrow if I can?”
“That sounds perfect, thanks for the favour man.”
That was a fairly productive phone call, now I hopefully won’t have to mess about with an emulator or shell out for the subscription to play it again. Seeing as Nintendo doesn’t want to make their old catalogue accessible. All I need to do on my end is to wait and possibly google how to set up an N64 in the meantime.
Turns out that we did still have the old thing, and that it isn’t all that hard to set up either so it’s not like it takes too long for me to hear the calmingly melancholic tones of the game’s opening theme. Our old save file is still there too, although some of the stats on the file seem to have gotten a little bit corrupted because I’m convinced we completed it fully. Although it’s been what like 10 years or more since I would’ve last played, it makes sense that I might just be misremembering things. No harm in seeing where we left off though is there?
Well even though the file says otherwise, looking through Link’s inventory really wants to disprove that - there’s something with the same sprite as Zelda’s letter where it should just be an empty slot. It’s not got a name, if I hover over it it simply brings up a missing value error and the button prompt me to read it. It’s not like there’s any issue if I did open it, it’s an old save file so even if it does corrupt I won’t lose anything.
Nothing happened, just a fade to blank before it glitched out and the inventory screen popped back up so that I could close it and have a look around…
How did Link turn around as I was paused in the inventory and how did his face get so close to the screen?
“[Name]? I knew you’d be back at some point! I knew you wouldn’t just leave your older brother for good… you wouldn’t would you?”
“...How do you know my name..?”
I know that Ai has gotten incredibly good recently but this is an N64, an unmodded one at that, so whatever the hell is happening right now can’t be due to that. This feels like it could be the start to a creepypasta though with everything going on right now - is this like a real life ben drowned - no it can’t be, he’d be crying blood if it were the case and he wouldn’t be as friendly either.
“Because you told me it all those years ago when you first played through the game? You always spoke to me like I was a real person, like you saw me as your older brother, so it’s only natural that I started to see you like a little sibling right? Then when you disappeared I got so worried, It’s been so long but you’ve gotten so much older! Did you pull the mastersword yourself, because this much time can’t have really passed can it?... Can it?”
He looks almost like he’s about to cry, I should be caref- why am I so worried about hurting the feelings of a fictional character? Is it cause he sees me like a sibling, a younger one; because he knows me from when I was younger; or because he seems so attached to me already? Maybe I should just… turn it off so I don’t have to deal with it.
“I don’t remember how long it’s been, a good few years at least, Since I’ve played it. I wasn’t exactly planning to-”
“Is that what you used to control me!? I’ve never been able to get a good look at it before. Would you mind bringing it closer?”
“...Yeah I can bring it closer.”
The way he interrupted me was so so sad, he’s forcing himself to be cheery when he looks like he’s about to break down, like how an older brother would act. He really sees himself as my older brother doesn’t he? I have to admit that the way he’s leaning against the screen like an excited kid is also pretty cute I won’t lie to myself, if it weren’t for how insane the situation is I don’t think I’d mind him being my younger brother. He’s younger than me now anyway so that makes far more sense.
Is the screen cracking beneath him?
It’s definitely cracking under his weight, there are seconds left before it shatters.
“It’s so simple and yet it was the reason that you were able to-”
Glass can only last so long. And now he’s out, lying on my floor in a shocked heap with glass shards surrounding and covering him. After a couple of seconds of neither of us knowing what to do, we both snap into action at the same time, while I try to help him up and check for any serious wounds… he’s just laughing with the widest goofiest smile on his face, grabbing at my arms like I’m nothing but a wisp of a dream.
“I - wow I - I could never have imagined that I could - that this - that this was even an option for me…”
“But I can be your brother in person now can’t I?”
#ALSO AAAAAA#POSTING THIS I JUST SAW I'VE HIT 300 ON TUMBLR#I'm putting together an event for everyone right now that'll be up in the next couple of days#THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH <333#link x reader#yandere link#linked universe x reader#yandere linked universe x reader#yandere linked universe#moss✦writes#self aware au

BEN drowned headcanons
hey so the pull said yes so imma give you My BEN drowned headcanons
Warning - one of these mentions s3lf h4rm but not like, in detail. It’s mainly talking about his emotions in that one.
BEN has long hair, like not very long, like about three - to - five inches beyond his shoulders. He puts it in small ponytails sometimes:)
he does smoke weed, but he’s not a chainsmoker/stoner. He only does it like, once a week when he’s particularly stressed.
he paints his nails sometimes, usually black.
He likes video games… …ok, I lied. He LOVES games. He’s also kinda good at them - ok I lied again, he’s is GOD at video games. Well, Nintendo that is. Which leads me into the next headcanon-
he once played Minecraft with Herobrine. He legit couldn’t figure out how to mine wood😭 he can’t play EA, Sega, Mojang, et cetera. It’s hilarious watching him try… he can beat any Nintendo game, he’s perfect at Nintendo and has every Nintendo game, console, comic, anime, YouTube video, etc. on his shelf. Oh, also the merch. Yet, he still cannot do any other company. He just knows the way Nintendo writes their games. (Talking to every NCP, big worlds, no-skip dialogue/loooong no- skip cutscenes, etc.) any other way a game could be written feels foreign to him, I guess. Like Minecraft, he was so confused when the villagers and zombies didn’t have dialogue lol.
The reason he ended up latching on so hard to Majora's Mask is because of the stress of being born into a cult, his cult (the Moon Children) are known for blood letting and their gore-involving rituals. He became slightly skeptical and that’s why he was killed (or ‘sacrificed’) by the Father when he was. His only escape from this madness was his friends (pre-death Lost, Glitchy Red and Strangled Red and Herobrine. They were the gaming clique, although his friends weren’t in his cult.)
he’s a crossdresser, you can’t change my mind.
he has a really cool Princess Peach cosplay but doesn’t wear it out bc he’s trying to protect his ‘bad boy tough guy’ reputation. Only Lost has seen the cosplay, since BEN only really opens up to Lost.
Lost Silver x Ben there’s no telling me otherwise.
BEN drowned is asexual and gay. Lost is asexual and biromantic.
BEN struggles with s3lf h4rm. Herobrine (the game pastas consider him like a father, G. Red even calls him Dad sometimes) is the only one who knows about this and tries his best to help. BENs issue stems from the blood letting in the moon children having given him a twisted perspective on how to cope with trauma. He’s trying his best.
BEN is fine with showers, but he’s afraid of pools, baths, oceans, rivers and bridges that go over water. (He was dumped off a bridge and that’s how they sacrificed him.)
He has severe trauma from Majoras Mask, but it helped him through the hardest time in his life back when he was alive… he has mixed feelings on it. N64 is still his favorite console though, so he plays the old N64 Mario Kart tracks on his switch. He considers them friends from a simpler time.
ik this was proven not canon but I love the dynamic so in my au headcanon thing Sally Williams is BEN’s half sister. (Hence the different last names.)
his mother and father divorced when he was eight when his Mom found out his Dad has been raising their son in a cult.
his Mom took Sally, who was three at the time, and moved. BEN had always been a daddy’s boy though, so he decided to stay with his dad. (Plus his mom didn’t let him play Majoras Mask on his 3ds when they went out but his dad did, so theres also that.)
there lemme know if you want more of this bc I had way too much fun writing this lol

(JN anon) (It's cool, it's cool. xD)
Heh, if you want add to the pile, there's an site called Artstation where someone who worked on the show posted some concept art and models. (I always had the question on whether other Flurp flavors existed at point besides purple. According to the concept art, the answer is yes. You can catch glimpses of them during "No parents" scene and Jimmy walked home in the movie.)
To think they almost did another movie. But the logic of "You can watch Jimmy for free at home" is a strong argument. (As well as thinking of a premise that would even work that couldn't already be done in the show)
Yeah, like on the gaming side, people seem to still REALLY love PS1 graphics and N64-like models. It's the charm of it, not always the looks. (Imagination helps too; that paper towel roll was a mighty sword at one point.)
Breathed art since I was born. It's never going to leave.
*nods* Planet Sheen [and Barnyard] had just the O-mation part of the company, Jimmy had THAT and DNA Productions. While some of the old crew did work on it, I think it's clear that the writers for it were different. Most episodes were just the same 3 people. (John A Davis himself didn't seem quite as involved. Neither did Acorn despite his name appearing a couple of times.)
I can understand that. As much as I'm not against the idea of another Power Hour or even Nicktoons Unite somehow resurrecting, the Jimmy side of things has just been peanuts. (With this past Saturday adding to the pile with the NFL Slimetime football thing with Spongebob and Patrick. At least it wasn't a mere cameo; though it was stock footage. xD Still, first appearance on the main network in a looong while.)
Can tell Nick wants to do more things with the boy genius again in a modern sense, but they're severely held back by old [non-2D] renders and no recent [non-game] models to really play with. (Easy fix, if they decide to get over their 'Planet Sheen' fear. :P)
We got a secret lore drop here! lol I actually went to check it out because I remembered something like that but wasn't sure, and I did find it!
And I'm pretty sure that most of the cans on the ground are other Flurp flavors, but these are just the most detailed screenshots I could make Jimmy Neutron 4k when
(also, if we are talking about games, while looking for it I randomly found and remembered some great concepts arts for Attack of the Twonkies game of all things lol)
Yes, I heard they were planned a second movie, but it never happened for one reason or another (I would eat concept art or even rough drafts, just give me)
Same (I sold my soul when I started drawing ponies as a kid more than 10 years ago lol)
Yes, it is very much felt and, unfortunately, the new team has not done itself justice in this show " If I'm not mistaken, Davis left before the original show even ended and, last time I looked, he's doing astrophotography now (life is a funny thing lol)
OH I HAVE A STORY ABOUT THAT FROM A FEW DAYS BEFORE A few days ago, I randomly woke up at 4:40 in the morning and for some reason decided to check Tumblr. And the first thing I see is a post about Jimmy's appearance on the NFL that someone made less than an hour ago lol And, obviously, it surprised me so much that I half asleep went to look for a video of it on youtube. After watching it, the next video on my recommendations was titled a title like “Jimmy Neutron characters as snacks” about 9 minutes long. So the next 10+ minutes I, still half-asleep, was arguing with an author of this video in my head about their headcanons for characters as snacks, and then I fell asleep. What a night lol (and the vituber models for Spongebob and Patrick made me giggle a little lol) But yes, the first appearance in a long time is already something heh
(Planet Sheen FNAF style jump scare every time someone talks about Jimmy Neutron in the Nickelodeon executive office)

Nintendo...holy smokes this Direct!
I will admit I never got into the Mario VS Donkey Kong games back then but if there was ever a reason to give it a shot, this would be it.
Love me some Spy × Family and with more episodes on the way this announcement was a welcome surprise, definitely a fun and relaxing time it seems!
Okay wow, Gex coming back wasn't enough we had to give OG Tomb Raider love too! Admittedly another series I never got to play much of (aside from a GBA proof of concept demo I found last year) but man it's reputation wasn't lost on me throughout my life (and on my birthday too, this remaster picked a great day to release)!
It's been so long since Peach had her own game, finally it happens again and wow she's gonna be a total badass in this! I can already sense the fanart of all the costumes being made as I speak, people are gonna have a field day with this!
Okay on one hand it's not what anyone expected...but on the other hand NINTENDO GAVE US AN F-ZERO BATTLE ROYALE, what a timeline we live in!! I mean when you really think of it this is a great idea, it's like that Death Race mode in X but fully realized and online! Just off that alone the replayability is unlimited, and hopefully this is a sign of things to come for this series.
Every day I'm reminded that I need to pick up Splatoon 3, tho considering the updates it had to get since launch waiting hasn't always been bad for me. With the Side Order DLC looking real good the temptation is getting higher and higher, there's only so many games I need to catch up on with the Switch and Nintendo knows it lol!
Okay Nintendo you had your fun with this direct, way to make Thursdays even more fun and excit-
...2004 a young boy walked into a BlockBuster, rented a sequel to an N64 RPG he loved a lot, and continued to rent it until he beat it, loving every sound, visual, character, and chapter of its incredible story! Now 2 decades later dang near and this incredible story has come back to grace the boy turned man once more, and no amount of Hype Ringos can show the excitement and joy he feels with this announcement...
That being said however, OH MY FLIPPING GOSH TTYD IS BAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!

Top 5 games you played before you were 13
I'm gonna limit these to one per franchise, but I'll mention where other titles in a franchise were really good too.
5: Kirby Superstar. This one has definitely had the smallest lasting impact on me of all the entries on this list. I mean I haven't really played too many other Kirby games besides this and Air Ride (and one for gba I think?), but that doesn't change the fact that I have some powerful memories and emotions tied to this game, and I certainly would like to play more Kirby games. It was a game I'd play when visiting my grandmother, so it was really a sort of special occasion whenever I'd get to play it, and it was just the right length I wouldn't get stuck part way through after a weekend visit.
4: Civilization 4(heh). I almost certainly have well over 5000 hours in this game. I've been playing it since I was 9 I think, and it was my introduction to strategy games, still a favorite genre of mine. I've played a lot of 5 and Beyond Earth too (and a fair bit of 6), but honestly I've probably played 4 more than the rest put together. I've played it a lot with my dad, so it's just such a nostalgic game for me, and along with most other entries on this list, just kinda feels like home.
3: Ocarina of Time. It's the first Zelda game I ever played, and it took me a long while to be able to beat it but it still has such a huge place in my heart, as does the rest of the series. The only games I played more than this on my old n64 were probably the two pokemon stadiums (which had multiplayer). It's probably the first game I ever played that filled me with that adventuring/exploring spirit, long before I ever played Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3/New Vegas, or countless others. Hyrule is just such an easy setting to fall in love with filled with countless characters that are easy to fall in love with. There's a reason it's such a classic.
2: Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8. Another game my dad introduced me to. I also played a decent bit of 7, and have since played a lot of 10 and especially 13, but I have played so much Romance 8 that I have legit memorized what's probably at least half of the text in the game. Like I do not have to read the whole text box to know what it says. Idk if there are speedruns in this game but with how fast I can play it I should look into it. It also fueled my early passion for history and a hyperfixation on the fall of the han dynasty in particular that regularly resurfaces to this day. Like, I'm custom building a ttrpg system based in large part on this game. It's a bit of an obsession.
1: I mean its gotta be Pokemon, specifically Platinum (or Pearl depending on the exact timing of things, this was pretty close to my 13th birthday). I mean I've made and maintained several of my closest friendships ever in part through the series, and it's still easily one of my favorite game series ever. I've been playing since Blue and despite everything I dont see myself stopping any time soon. I also at that point had probably put more hours into Sinnoh than any other region, and honestly that still might be true, so I had to pick it.
Honorable mention goes to Persona 4, which I would have played for the first time around when I was 13 but similarly don't know exactly when it happened, however it did take the first hammer to the wall of my faux heterosexuality (though it would take another 4 years for it to collapse completely), so I felt it deserved a mention.

Intelligent Systems Has Always Been Amazingly Mismanaged, and I'm Surprised They're Still Alive
This is literally just going to be me pointing out super obvious stuff that literally anyone on a development or marketing team probably should have noticed and which every long time FE fan has probably already mentioned BUT I HAVEN'T so let's go.
A TIMELINE OF IMPORTANT INTSYS AND NINTENDO LAUNCHES
July, 1983: Release of the NES/Famicom in Japan
April, 1990: Release of FE1 for the NES in Japan
November, 1990: Release of the SNES/Super Famicom in Japan
March, 1992: Release of FE2 for the NES in Japan
January, 1994: Release of FE3 for the SNES in Japan
May, 1996: Release of FE4 for the SNES in Japan
July, 1996: Release of the N64 in Japan
September, 1999: Release of FE5 for the SNES in Japan
March, 2001: Release of the Game Boy Advance in Japan
September, 2001: Release of the GameCube in Japan
March, 2002: Release of FE6 for GBA in Japan
April, 2003: Release of FE7 for GBA in Japan
October, 2004: Release of FE8 for GBA in Japan
November, 2004: Release of the Nintendo DS in Japan
April, 2005: Release of FE9 for GameCube in Japan
November, 2006: Release of the Wii in North America (Why was it released in North America first??? Anyway, it released in December in Japan)
February, 2007: Release of FE10 for Wii in Japan
August, 2008: Release of FE11 for DS in Japan
July, 2010: Release of FE12 for DS in Japan
February, 2011: Release of the 3DS in Japan
April, 2012: Release of FE13 for 3DS in Japan
June 2015: Release of FE14 for 3DS in Japan
(Wii U in here somewhere but it's not really relevant because the Wii U was never relevant)
March, 2017: Release of the Nintendo Switch worldwide
April 2017: Release of FE15 for 3DS in Japan
June 2019: Release of FE16 for Switch worldwide
Ok now DO YOU NOTICE ANYTHING REALLY STUPID ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE I DO
FE1 Released only seven months prior to the release of the next big console. Seven months is enough time that this isn't necessarily a death sentence, though.
FE2 released TWO. YEARS. AFTER. THE SNES. FOR THE NES.
FE3 was actually in a good spot. It released for the most recent console I can't believe that even needed to be said before that console was made irrelevant. I know it also included the entire contents of FE1, which probably made the purchase of a sequel released for a completely different console a lot more appealing and did good things for its sales, so kudos to them
FE4 then released only two months before the next Nintendo console was set to release. At least it came out before, but... JFC my dude, you're cutting it really close, and it probably killed momentum. Usually people don't buy games that close to the release of a new console, since they're saving up for the next thing or planning on selling their previous consoles/games to buy the next thing. Not to mention all the marketing for your game gets lost (or squashed) in the hype.
FE5 then released THREE. THREE YEARS. AFTER THE N64 WAS ON THE MARKET. THREE YEARS. AN SNES TITLE CAME OUT THREE YEARS AFTER THE N64 DID.
FE6 and FE7 once again fell into a pretty good spot, being GBA titles at a time when the GBA was current, and not too close to the release of the next big console.
FE8 in a bit of a tight spot, coming out only one month before the DS. Though I think it was probably less impacted than FE4 because the DS was backwards compatible with GBA games, so it wouldn't have been completely overshadowed by the DS's release.
FE9 is alright. FE9 was not the problem with the Tellius duology. It got kind of a raw deal, coming out on a notoriously underperforming Nintendo home console, but it was a well placed title.
No, the issue with the Tellius duology is FE10. Because. When you have a game for a niche series which already released on a notoriously underperforming console, then the absolute last thing you want to do is create a direct sequel to the game very few people played, which requires you to have played the first game, and offers incentives if you have. That's a great way to make sure NO ONE buys FE10. AGAIN, it came out at a good time, on a good console, and I'm not saying it would have sold amazingly if it hadn't been tied to FE9, but I have a feeling it would have sold much better.
FE11 and FE12 are, again, fine... The issue with them is that they're a remake, and remakes never sell as well as non-remakes, and that's not really the kind of thing you want to do coming off of a poor selling set of games prior. Also, FE3 had previously combined the contents of FE1 and FE3. Now the devs are selling them both again, this time separately. People don't exactly like that. This was also the point where they included some controversial features, like changing the story to add Kris and the removal of permadeath. Not exactly great to be upsetting your fanbase when you're still reeling from the last two entries' poor sales.
FE13. The stars literally aligned and there must have been some divine intervention from god to save this series, because they never tripped into being this lucky this hard before. Not only did it release on a current console (I still can't believe that's such an accomplishment for this series), it basically held 3DS owners captive since it was the only thing worth playing for a gooood long stretch of the 3DS's early life.
FE14, another well timed entry. I won't say that the three games approach was the best idea from a marketing approach, but they also weren't punished for it. Turns out people are willing to put up with your janky marketing practices when they're actually aware your series exists lmao
FE15 and we hit another rough patch, because it released two months after the Switch. For the 3DS. Why do people still wonder why this game sold so poorly, again?
Like it really seems like IS just makes a string of godawful decisions about their games, then accidentally trips into doing something correctly which perpetuates the series for another few entries before it inevitably falls into another string of bad decisions.
This post brought to you by: me googling FE2's release date, seeing 1992, and going "Wait... isn't that a bit late for an NES game..?"
To quote the Kevin story on Reddit, "This is where it all became clear. It was by some incredible fluke that this franchise hadn't been wiped off the face of the Earth years ago. Odds are its entire history was based on blind luck and some type of sick divine intervention that saves it every time a threat presents itself."

I liked your Elfilin analysis. I like Elfilin because he is cute and cute = justice, but I did notice a lack of getting us to care about him getting kidnapped on act 2. I kinda wished they had a little interlude between levels that wasn't just "check out what the Waddle Dees build". Kinda like the N64 game that had small cutscenes between world of the group just hanging out, watching the sea or something. It was charming. As for Elfilin's motivation for saving the Waddle Dees I think they could have gone with guilt or a sense of responsability. When we first met him he told Kirby he *had* to save them and seemed pretty adamant, maybe expand on that. Make him feel guilty for the wormhole opening and the Dreamlanders getting sucked in. Make it obvious that he feels guilty but unable to say it because Kirby and Bandee might hate him? Something to add between levels when they force us to Waddle town. Bandana Dee is already there, have him and Elfilin interact to show his guilt. Then just after a famous "I have something to tell you after X" line before the end of world 4 he gets kidnapped. My idea is very cliche, but I think it would work because since it is cliche it is easy to follow. People would probably jump the evil!Elfilin wagon when they see him feeling guilty.
Also yeah, not do a fake out death that last less than a minute would be nice. At least keep his status ambiguous until post game or something.
That's my scenario/headcanon of what could happen. What do you think?
You are right in that there are points that seem to be set up for something, like him saying he *had* to save the Dee's, but it needed further emphasis. He sure seemed desperate in that moment, but it doesn't seem to really drive his character all that much. Both he and Ribbon can have fun casual times with their friends because you can't be paranoid 24/7, but at least Ribbon was given a reminder of what she was fighting for in the one cutscene where we see Ripple Star for the first time since the intro and it's covered in Dark Matter. Elfilin lacks that moment, probably doesn't help that the Waddle Dees he's been fighting for are doing pretty well most of the game in the casual town, in contrast too Ripple Star being taken over the entirety of 64. Elfilin seeing the Waddle Dee slave labor could of been that moment, but naw that needs to be a late game surprise for the player. I think the points of the game that forces you back into Waddle Dee town would of been the best opportunity to have a cutscene in order to flesh out the characters (and personally I would of love to have seen more in level stuff like the cardboard cut out moment in the first Wondria Park stage). The game wants you to care about some things if it takes time to show you, like oooo you unlocked the arena and Meta Knight's there oooo, but then would have been the time to have fleshed out the characters. As for Bandee, those interactions would have to be prerendered/unavoidable because Elfilin interacting with him during the hub gameplay would be awkward if a player 2 was already playing the guy. But I get using Bandee as a way to flesh out Elfilin because 1.) They both can talk and 2.) Honestly Bandee is a better fit than Elfilin for the whole having to save Waddle Dees thing. They have a history with their coworkers and one of the Beast Pack leaders is their boss, they already has those emotional stakes. Perhaps give Bandee some lines were they talk about how much Elfilin means to the Dees, then Elfilin's influence on them seems legit and Bandee also loses a new friend on top of everything else. Rename the game "Bandee has a shit day" the poor guy. Though he isn't allowed anything other than "Hiiiiiiiiii~!" Kirby would still need to connect with them non-verbally in these theoretical cutscenes. Your solutions are simple but they work, the game's plot doesn't need to be made complicated hell it needs to be easier to follow. And yeah in that case cliches can work, as long as they have fun with it.

Look into the mutiverse chapter 4
Thanks again to ExiledDarkness for writing the charcters reaction for this chapter. Please go check out his stuff. And if your wondering where Qrow came from, We forgot to add a scene for Qrow and didn't feel like going back.
This chapter is based of the Youtuber SomecallmeJohnny and his review of Super Mario 64. I had to cut it short because my laptod was acting up again and google docs was acting wonky, parts of the fic getting erased. Rest assure for the Somecallmejohnny fans, I won't just do his reviews. I have plans to do Super gaming bros reaction as well. And for those who don't know Johnny, go check him! Enjoy the reaction.
The screen lights up again and shows Jaune wearing a cap and hoodie and sitting on a bright red couch. He had a bit of stubble on his face and he was currently holding a controller in his hand as he turned on a device known as the N64.
"Oh? Jaune looks good with stubble." Blake comments. Everyone looks at Jaune and then back to the one on the screen. They all nodded in agreement.
"It's a go time! Super Mario 64!" He said in a high pitched voice with a bad accent.
The Jaune on the screen sighed seemingly tired. "Lady and Gents welcome back to the Super Mario marathon, And just like with Ocarina of time, this is a game that haunted me during the N64 lifetime. Jaune looked the the N64 sitting on his dresser and continued. "It was like the console itself was actively mocking me like: "Hey Jauney? How about you ditch that playstation and try me out instead?" The blonde's eyes lit up in anger. "Well I didn't have a job in 1996 you sensitive prick!" Jaune snapped at the console.
Everyone blinked at the sudden anger. Ruby turned towards JNPR and asked, "Are you okay Jaune?"
Jaune, still frozen from the sudden burst of anger from his other self, snaps back to reality and nods at the question. "Yeah, I think I understand what's happening here. But I'll stay quiet until I know for sure."
Jaune turned toward the screen and went on like nothing happened. "Last time I gave Mario attention, I was focused on what made the Italian "Plumber—"" He said with quotation marks. "—the video game icon he is today. Now we're gonna do it again only in 3d."
Jaune turned to his audience and smiled. "You guys ready for another Super Mario marathon?"
"Aha!" Jaune says as he slammed his closed fist on his hand. "This is me doing video games!"
Ren paused at hearing this information. "Then that explains the sudden burst of anger then." Nora and Jaune nod while the rest of the audience looks on confusedly.
RWBY look at each other before Yang hesitantly asks, "So why did he get so angry?"
Jaune laughs before scratching the back of his head. "I like video games but I hate it when I can't progress further into the game. Sometimes I get really into it, I guess."
"Here we go, Super Mario 64, the 64 being figureded to the console and not the 64 game in the series, Mario's first 3d game, and a launch title for the N64. It was highly praised and hailed as the 3d version of what Super Mario bros on the NES did for platemors at the time, Mario 64 did the same. But I came into the 64 train late, So I don't have what you call: Super Mario 64 memories. In fact my first 3d Mario game was the next game we'll be looking at: Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube. Jaune's expression darkened as he smiled hurmlousy. "But that can wait. Oh it can wait." The tone of his voice was bitter and venomous.
Everyone laughed now knowing the context of Jaune's anger towards video games.
"Alright booting the game up and the first thing you see is Mario's head. You know to really hammer in that this is Mario's first 3d adventure. You can even fuck around with the face a bit but it doesn't really effect the game it's just there for fun.
We're also greeted by Mario's new voice, provided by Charles Margent. Shockingly this isn't his debut as the Jumpman, that was in Mario Fundamental, a Pc game released a year before. Pretty sure no one heard of it before someone did a document on it.
"This idea of a floating Mario head, perhaps more infamously in Mario teaches typing two. A floating deformed head pop on the screen.
"Hey? Are you ready for Mario type?" It asked.
"Mother of God." Jaune deadpan in horror.
"Despite the new voice, Mario doesn't speak much. It's mostly hiyas woohoos throughout the game. And he only speaks a full phase when he completes a goal or he falls asleep on the job. It shows the red clad mario on the ground sleeping.
"Ha spatgai, Ha ravioli." The plumber mutters in his sleep.
Nora drools over the names of food. They sound pretty good right now.
"Charles as Mario is so absorbed into my head I can't imagine anyone else doing the role. It's not like the acting is amazing or anything, he's been voicing Mario for nearly 20 years at this point. If Charles stepped out of the role for any reason, the next guy would just try to simulate Charles' voice.
"It's weird that way," Ren piped up, "No matter what happens people are going to remember the original no matter how much the new one tries to be the old one.
"Hear hear ninja boy" Qrow cheered a bit and took a swig of his beer.
"Okay nearly forgot that I was looking at a video game, Sorry about that. Well let's look at that plot shall we?"
"I'm curious to hear about the kind of story this game might have," Ozpin said as he crosses his legs.
"Boswer kidnaps Princess Peach, Mario must go save her, now that didn't take long now did it?"
Ozpin blinked and sat back in his seat, a bit disappointed.
"I'll let it slide this time since they probably wanted to keep it safe for the first game in 3d. Hell, the menu theme is the main theme for the series."
Qrow snorts. "Fair enough. I guess you can't expect these guys to be that ballsy."
The entire game is set in Peach's castle. Boswer has taken the power star, which I believe gives the castle power? Jaune shrugged. I dunno what they do, it's not really explain and getting more powerstar allows you to get into more levels, and that's the name of the game here. Bowser had set up routine courses in painting.
"The courses tend to varies but nothing here gets too crazy like other Mario games. It's not until late game you go to more odd place like in a clocktower or riding rainbow.
"The game's openness is the first thing you'll take note of in Mario 64. You can start a mission with a hint on what to do,but there is nothing stopping you from just doing a different mission and grabbing the star despite not being the mission you clicked on.
There are a handful of expectations like racing against against Koopa the quick who not gonna show up unless you chose his mission, but most of the time you can go at it on your own pace. Eh, I didn't wanna fight King Bo-mb yet, I want free the chain chomp and get the star there. I could take down King twop, or I could do a well place jump and get this unrelated power star. And that's where a lot of Mario's replay value comes in, not just getting the power star but how you get them.
"Oh, this game sounds fun! I should get it if we ever get out of here." Nora exclaimed.
"With what money Nora?" Jaune asked. Nora looked at Jaune with a wide smile. "No." Jaune deadpan. Nora pouted at his response and turned to Ren with a wide smile.
"No Nora. And do not ask Weiss either." Ren said with his eyes still on the screen and Nora pouted again.
Peach's castle acts as a hub world, the place you're exploring and using to get to other stages to get more power stars. But in order to duke it out with Bowser, you need to get a certain amount of power stars to access the level. As a guy who doesn't care for hub worlds I don't mind Peach's castle. The levels aren't too far apart and there are things you can do in the castle that can help you increase your star count. Like a secret race track that gives you two stars if you're fast enough, or an underwater level that contains an easy to get star. It challenges you in a way that makes it still feel like a Mario game.
"It sounds pretty easy at first glance, but I can understand how annoying it can become if you mess up at least once or twice." Jaune says. Ruby, Nora, and even Ren nod in agreement.
The biggest change to the formula was the jump to 3d, like with Ocarina of Time. He still has to break boxes, stomp on enemies, the works but this game gave the man a few extra moves to go along with the change to 3d. The analog stick is used to move Mario, the further you tilled it the faster he moves, instead of the run button we knew from the past game. Mario still has the jumps he's famous for, but pressing the jump button can allow Mario to reach the heights he's never seen until this game without a power up. He can crouch and crawl but I've only used this a total of once. But you standstill and jump you can do a backflip, and if you crouch and run you can do a long jump which I love using so much and because you can do some real fancy shit with it, and it makes Mario move faster to boot. If you snap the anlong back and jump he can do a somersault and if you jump towards a wall, Mario can wall jump as well.
Nora makes a face at the detailed review. "All these moves and stuff sound annoying. Why can't games be as simple like they are now?!"
Ren sighs and begins to explain but Qrow cuts in. "It's because of games like these were like test models that you get to play the good quality games you have now. I remember playing Soaring Ninja back when he was literally unplayable and useless. Now look at him!"
Ruby and Yang gasp, Soaring Ninja was unplayable?
"I wouldn't be surprised if this move came from the gameboy version of Donkey kong. That remake has a fucklord of levels and a handstand jump for Mario. He still takes damage if he falls too far, so he's just a pale imitation. Jaune had Mario wall jump a wall to prove a point. "The Mario I know could fall from any height and take no dam-" Jaune cut himself off his eyes widening when he heard Mario grunt in pain and his health go down a bit. "WHAT THE FUCK! He took damage from a large height! Mario! What's the meaning of this?" He asked in bewilderment, looking at the floating Mario head from earlier."
"Oh nice computer you have here. Can I have it?" the Mario head asked
"No!" Jaune exclaimed.
Everyone's eyes widened at the scene. Ozpin checked his mug with scrutiny to see if he was still drinking the right drink. Looked normal enough.
"Peach's castle has 120 power stars in the castle, but you only need 70 of them to beat the game." Jaune had a strained smile on his face as he continued. But where the fun in just getting 70 power star and beating the game that way, it not like getting all the star is that time com- for fuck sakes yes it is!"
"Let's just get one thing clear, I fucking depise the 100 coin misson. It's as simple as it sounds, grab 100 coins and then grab the star that appears over your head. Lather rinse repeat, for all 15 courses. In a game that usually has you go to once place and grab the star, collecting these coins brings the game to grueling crawl. Mario 64 doesn't have a checkpoint system. It doesn't bother me much. The levels are usually small and with Mario's new moves getting the Power star is not only comartable, it's also pretty fucking fun. And then their these." That venomous tone from before came back. The screen showcased the blue coins that have appeared throughout most of the video so far.
"Aw it's one of those games! The type that needs you to waste your time actually going through all of what the game has planned for you before you get to the final boss! What a rip off!" Qrow exclaims, tossing his hands in the air. Jaune agrees, crossing his arms and trying not to join in on the rage.
"No amount of looking of cute puppies. can cotain the amount of rage i have when I fuck up these mission with a impeferct jump or when a enemey hits me from behind. It's not always a painful process, but sucks so hard cause the coins are either place so far part or because they're so goddamn scarce! "Gotta kill those enemies before the coins blink away and scatter when they spawn. These blue coins are 5 regular coin a piece but you gotta get them before they blink away and you only got one shot! Was there area I didnt search, an enemy I skipped, I did I fuck up somewhere since I only have 64 coins after look around what feels like for fucking ever?!
"And try not get the last coin in a dangerous area or impossible to backtrack to. The star will always appear right above Mario's head, so make sure it's a safe locati-GODDAMN!"
The star had appeared in a caged area that Mario couldn't reach.
Everyone laughed at the other Jaune's misery. The Arf viewing the screen feels relieved that he himself isn't on the receiving end. Or was he?
"Couldn't just tell the star to come to you Mario?" Jaune asked the Mario head on his computer.
"When a moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that's amore!" Mario began to sing and Jaune facepalm when he didn't get answered. "When an eel lunges out…
"UNGAI?!" Jaune jumping up. A eel appeared and let out a roar and Jaune wasn't in his chair anymore, It being left spinning by how fast he booked it.
"That's amore!" Mario finished singing and chuckled. Get it? Amore eel? I said funny.
"Fuck you!" Jaune said from somewhere in the house.
All the immature audience members fell out of their seats in laughter while the more mature chuckled at the scene.
At the end of the day, I really shouldn't be going for all the Power star, and that's more of a technical issue, but I'm gonna bitch anyway. But despite the age, this game is still a treat to play even today. This has been Somecallmejohnny, and you guys have a Good Day.
Nora stretches and yawns. "Well, that was a nice one. Funny too! I wonder what's next?"

Well I’ve Never Been to Heaven (But I’ve Been to Oklahoma) pt 17
I know it’s been a terribly long time since I last updated - to be frank, the last couple of weeks have been almost too full to bear. Wife and I foster dogs through a local shelter, and our most recent was a hospice foster whom we had for the last 6 months (aka all of quarantine and beyond). He finally declined to the point that we had to make the call, and we said goodbye to him last weekend and honestly? I’ve been too sad to do much writing or thinking about writing, because this loss, even though it was an expected one, has left a massive hole in my heart. Unrelated, but I am now in the remote wilderness of Colorado in a cabin for Wife’s 30th birthday - essentially sheltering in place, but with a hot tub and mountain views. It finally feels a little easier to breathe and the getaway has done me a lot of good. Here’s an extra-long update of Tulsa fic for an extra-long wait. I hope you all are taking care of yourselves out there and giving yourself breaks where you can. Catch up on past entries here, and come say hi and tell me about the pets that you’ve loved.
***
When Richard opens his eyes on Saturday morning with his face smushed against his pillow he suffers a dizzying moment of time travel - he’s in his childhood bedroom wearing one of his old high school t-shirts and seeing his Ninja Turtle sleeping bags rolled up on the floor. But there’s no Big Head playing N64 at the foot of his bed, and his sheets smell like detergent and some familiar floral scent he can’t quite place, not spilled Red Bull and teen boy sweat.
He flops over onto his back and closes his eyes for a moment, breathes deeply through his nose. Hears his sister’s voice, teasing but not mean: mooning over someone, that’s what he looks like. His mother’s voice. He’s a million miles away, like always. Jared’s voice, hushed in the dark. All I wanted was to find a place that I belonged, where I was wanted. Isn’t that what Richard always wanted too? Jesus, how many nights did he spend in this room, in this bed counting down the days until he could finally fucking escape, trying with all his might to think himself away from this place. “Creation is an act of sheer will,” after all.
And what did you create, Richie?
You made a shitty music player that no one fucking wanted, and you gave away your one good idea to your competition. What does that leave you with - a great company name? Shit, if Jared hadn't seen the potential of the algorithm, you wouldn't even have a company. Jared sparked the idea for middle-out. Without him, you wouldn't have middle-out, you wouldn't be a CEO. You wouldn't have anything at all.
Maybe Jared knows what he's talking about.
***
Diane’s already awake, a coffee cup cradled in her hands at the kitchen table, when Jared carefully and quietly emerges from Richard’s bedroom and shuts the door.
“Mornin’ sugar,” she whispers and gestures for Jared to sit next to her, which he does. "I didn't expect anyone to be awake yet on a Saturday. You must be an early riser, like me. Here, sit you a spell, lemme grab you some coffee. Did you sleep well?” she asks, as she gets up to fetch him a mug of his own. This force of Diane's maternal energy continues to catch him off guard, and he reaches for an answer like a man in an unfamiliar hotel room groping for the light.
“Oh yes, they were all nightmares I’ve had before so I knew my escape routes. I feel fresh as a daisy!”
“Mm, that’s good,” she replies, sounding far away as she rummages through a cabinet and pulls out a mug, then pads over to the coffee pot to fill it. “You take cream and sugar, sweetheart?”
“Black is fine,” Jared says, and gratefully accepts the cup she offers him. It says HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY in comic sans font surrounding a faded photo of the entire Hendricks family, sometime in the mid-90s from the look of the boldly patterned oversize knit sweater on Steven and the perms sported by both Diane and Caitlyn. They’re standing in a verdant field in front of a split rail fence, Steven and Diane in the back, Caitlyn and Richard in front; Richard is a skinny, coltish boy, those auburn curls still a riot around his head, his father’s hand clapped firm over his left shoulder.
“Somethin’ wrong, sugar?” Diane asks him, and Jared startles from his reverie. He shakes his head, quickly takes a sip, “Mm, no. This is good, thank you, Diane.” He tries very hard not to think about his strange, alien presence in the warmth of this woman’s home, with her powder blue terrycloth robe and her commissioned family mugs. They sit in silence for a moment, listening to the birds chirping outside the kitchen window.
“Jared, honey, can I ask you somethin’?”
“Of course,” Jared says, caught off guard. His fingers play with the collar of his plain white t-shirt.
“Richard has always been...sensitive. He acts standoffish, but he - he takes things hard, you know? I thought he might grow out of it. He was such a sweet little boy...used to pick dandelions for me on the way home from school, almost every day. Can you believe that?”
Jared looks at the unabashed grin on 9-year-old Richard’s face, standing in a field and squinting into the sun, laughing with his family. He can believe it. “Yes,” he says, but Diane doesn’t seem to really hear him as she continues.
“But you know, high school and hormones, and my lord did that boy get moody!” She laughs a little, but it sounds sad. “I just...ever since he went off to college, I feel him slippin’ further and further away from me. Does he - well, what does he say about us, exactly? Does he ever talk about us?”
Jared’s expression must reveal more than he intended, because she nods before he can speak. “Ah. That’s what I thought.”
“But it’s not,” Jared hurries to reassure her, “I don’t think it is what you think. Richard doesn’t talk about his past really, or anything altogether personal.” Except this weekend, his mind whispers and he tries not to flush. He’s full of stories this weekend. And those long nights in the garage, in the bathtub, in bathrooms of VC offices; all those fears, all those anxieties. It feels so terribly personal, but listen to what his own mother is telling you and give up all those fantasies that it could be anything else - it’s just business, Donald. He rushes on, “You have to understand, Diane, the tremendous pressure he’s under. There’s not really time or, or room for - “ but he falters, unsure how to proceed when he doesn’t really believe what he’s saying.
“Oh I know, he’s busy, always so busy. Off being a big shot CEO, I get it. I just wish...” she shakes her head, looks down into her coffee mug.
“I know you must miss him terribly,” Jared says, grimly picturing the ragged hole in his chest that would remain if Richard ever left him behind.
“Sometimes I wonder if...does he hate me, Jared? Is that why he won’t come home?”
“Oh gosh in heaven, no!” Heedless of houseguest decorum, he places one of his hands over her smaller one on the table and squeezes in an attempt to comfort her. Her only crime is loving Richard too much, an infraction he is all too familiar with. He can’t help but offer her a balm to soothe, even if it’s not his place. “He misses you, and he loves you. I think...I think Richard is someone who tends to live inside himself a great deal, and doesn’t always pay attention to the effect he can have on other people.” Jared can feel his ears pinking, but he soldiers on. “He’s like a shark, always moving forward, never pausing to rest because he has to attack the next problem and the next. And while that means he can stay focused on creating wonderful things, it also means he doesn’t always notice the little remoras swimming around him, taking care of him so that he can keep on swimming and avoid deadly parasitic infections.”
Diane looks at Jared, her face drawn and tight, an expression so like her son’s face when he’s working out a problem. Her eyes search his, and for a moment, Jared has the terrible urge to shrink before her, a child under scrutiny. “And is there someone,” her voice falters, “takin’ care of him?”
He’s caught, his heart thrumming like a rabbit’s in a snare, but he’s helpless against those wild blue eyes, and he nods.
“And is he happy?” She has turned her hand so that her fingers are now clutching at Jared’s, feverish. A woman holding onto a lifeline.
Jared wants to say yes, wants to say it’s terrifying and exhausting and every day is an uphill climb but we are building something magical together and he wants to say I am doing everything I can to make him happy because he said no to Gavin’s money and I didn’t know people could do that. What he actually says is, “I - I want him to be.”
She searches his face, her expression unreadable, then releases Jared’s hand immediately as Caitlyn pads down the hallway in an oversized OKC Thunder t-shirt and plaid sleep pants, yawning loudly. “Hey, mama, did you make coffee?”

This is unlike anything else I’ve ever written, just as a warning going in. A good friend commissioned me to write a creepypasta about Mario Party 2, specifically the game ‘Quicksand Cache’ after everyone on their stream was laughing about how weird it was. So, it’s semi-serious and a little edgy, but you you like video game creepypastas, enjoy.
Quicksand Cache | 2370 words, T for spooky themes.
Everyone who has played Mario Party growing up has a favorite minigame – even if you’ve only played the game once or twice, you can usually fondly remember a few of the minigames. There are so many choices that it’s hard to pick a favorite minigame, let alone a favorite Mario Party game! Despite that, my friends and I have always enjoyed playing Mario Party 2 the most.
Mario Party 2 was the pinnacle of Mario Party games to us. Sure, you could argue subsequent games got better and better, but nothing beat MP2 for us. The minigames, the costumes, the boards, and the music all brought us back over and over. It was our favorite.
At least, it was our favorite.
You might be asking yourself why we stopped loving Mario Party 2. It’s been a long time since we played or have even seen each other. The last time we played together was the culmination of something… strange. I might as well tell you what happened since you’re reading this post on my little corner of the internet.
Let me start from the beginning… Mario Party 2 came out in 1999. The game came out when I was just a kid. It was easy enough to play. It didn’t require much reading, and anything we didn’t understand was easy to figure out with the help of a parent. Either way, I loved it! I played it all the time, happily choosing Donkey Kong as my character every time. I remember loving how silly he looked compared to the rest of the cast. As time passed, I began to make friends in school and would often invite them over to play on my N64. Of course, we’d always end up playing a game of Mario Party 2! Luckily for me, no one else wanted to pick DK, so I always got to play as my favorite character.
My favorite minigame, in particular, was one called Quicksand Cache. It was a 3-vs-1 minigame where we could work together, or the odd player out could work against the other three. My friends dreaded it when it came up because I had become a master at it! Nothing was funnier than me than seeing Donkey Kong’s big head on top of a Bowser suit as I made him spin the quicksand in circles to collect the coins falling from the sky while my friends tried to resist being sucked under. I always won, much to the chagrin of my friends.
All was well, at first – we grew up and didn’t have as much time to play games. People moved, new consoles came out, and Mario Party 2 was put into a box filled with other old games and consoles. It wouldn’t be the end for the game, though. Nostalgia called once my friends and I graduated from high school and found ourselves wanting to reconnect. What better to do than hang out and play old videogames that we used to love?
We found free time a couple of times a month (sometimes more if we were lucky) to get together and hang out. This particular evening, our choice was Mario Party 2. After digging it out of storage, I blew on the cartridge – old habits die hard – and put the game in the N64 as my friends and I sat back, watching the silly opening. Nothing was amiss as we pressed start, quickly picking our old favorite characters. As always, I chose Donkey Kong. This time, my friends chose Yoshi, Wario, and Luigi.
Our first game was a little off. We noticed we were getting a lot of 3-vs-1 minigames. While the game works by using RNG, 4-player minigames were the most typical choice. Nearly every turn, I was landing on red spaces and my friends were landing on blue spaces. It was frustrating losing 3 coins every turn, but it was quickly made back up to me by the game choosing Quicksand Cache for every minigame.
Over and over we watched the screen fade and open up to an arena filled with quicksand, Donkey Kong’s head on top of a Bowser suit in the very middle as Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario stood on the outside. The game went as normal, at least, the characters eventually getting sucked into the vortex of sand as DK raised his arms and spun in the middle of the screen.
While the game was frustrating, the sight of DK in the middle was still just as funny to my friends and me as it had been when we were kids. At first, anyways… As the game came up over and over, something about the game felt almost unsettling. Nothing had changed, but the whole room could tell there was something off. We chalked it off to frustration over the game giving us bad RNG and moved on to the next game.
Again, the same issue was bothering us – the game was determined to pick 3-vs-1 minigames, forcing us to play Quicksand Cache repeatedly. We pushed through, but after the second board, my friends were done with Mario Party 2 for the night. I couldn’t blame them, as I was getting annoyed too despite how many coins I was winning from the game. The night went on and eventually, my friends departed for their own homes, leaving me by myself.
Out of curiosity, I decided to boot up Mario Party 2 and see if I got the same results I had earlier. I chose Donkey Kong, of course, and picked the same characters my friends had. The only difference is that they were set to COM. Strangely enough, the game was back to normal. I texted my friends about it, and they agreed it was just a strange fluke.
Months went by where my friends would pick Mario Party 2 for game night and we’d have the same issue. We decided that enough was enough and put the Mario Party 2 cartridge to rest for good. Perhaps its long life had corrupted the game. I couldn’t help but give the game one last try, though. I had loved it for so long that I wanted to play one last game, even if the cartridge was starting to glitch out.
I loaded up the game and went to the character menu, but something was off. The characters, normally cheerful, had blank expressions on their faces. I figured the game must really be messing up, but I was determined to play one more time. I picked Donkey Kong and his model stayed static. Undeterred, I picked the other characters to play as COMs and went into a board.
The game had gone silent except for the rolling of the dice – the mechanical, whirring noise was a stark contrast to the upbeat and cheerful music the boards usually played. I checked the sound settings, but nothing was turned off, so I continued. I thought that maybe blowing on the cartridge so many times had finally caught up to me – I’d had it happen with other games, so this one must simply be on its last legs. I pressed A to hit the dice, and the game officially started.
I landed on a red space.
The COMs landed on blue spaces, and to no surprise, we were brought back to Quicksand Cache. This time, though, the COMs were still. They did nothing as I made DK spin, which meant they were sucked under almost immediately. The game quickly ended, confusing me. I knew the COMs did weird things sometimes, but they hadn’t moved at all. Still, I wasn’t convinced it was anything other than the game glitching out.
As I looked at the screen, though, I noticed the character portraits were frowning. It was the same portrait the characters got when they were in last place on the results screen. Their sad faces were unnerving, and even Donkey Kong was frowning. There was no way I was going to stop, though, especially not when the game was acting so weird.
I hit the dice again, and by the time the turn had ended, we were back in Quicksand Cache. This time, instead of standing still, the characters went into their losing animation. They even exclaimed out in defeat like they were supposed to when they lost – but they hadn’t lost. The game had just started. I put the controller down and watched as DK sat still in the middle, the other characters still quickly succumbing to the quicksand before the minigame ended.
By this point, I was creeped out. Other things could be passed off as glitches, but this was more than that. My heart was pounding. As much as I wanted to shut off the N64, I couldn’t make myself move other than to pick my controller back up. The rumble pack vibrated at full force as soon as my hands wrapped around it, forcing me to drop it in surprise.
I watched in shock as the game began to play itself. I hadn’t set the game to all COMs. Even if I wanted to, I hadn’t checked the menu since I started. When I looked at DK, he suddenly had COM under his name. The whirring of the dice filled my ears again as the characters moved around the board by themselves, but even the game itself could do nothing against the pull of Quicksand Cache.
The game opened up for the third time. This time, Donkey Kong was frowning as he sat in the middle of the screen. The other characters still had their sad expression plastered on their face. When the game started this time, the COMs ran desperately to the edge of the map while DK seemed to move uncontrollably. He spun faster and faster, faster than should be allowed, until once again Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario were sucked underneath the sand. There was no happiness when the game ended. Donkey Kong’s expression remained sad, almost pained looking.
The game continued as I sat frozen, watching as the character’s expressions became sadder as each turn was played. Quicksand Cache was played over and over as the COMs tried desperately to escape their fate, occasionally giving up again and remaining still while DK was forced to spin.
The final turn loaded up and I gasped as the only character that remained was Donkey Kong. The other profiles were completely gone, and the board was empty – neither Toad nor Boo nor any of the other NPCs were present. Even the dice was silent, the only sound remaining the step of DK’s feet as he moved for his final turn.
There was no final minigame, the game abruptly cutting to the final ‘battle’ with Bowser on each board. There was no Bowser, though – the only thing there was DK’s Quicksand Cache sprite, his head resting atop what was allegedly a Bowser suit. He stared straight ahead, and it’s then that I noticed the rust-colored edges around the neck of the suit.
There was no way – this was a kid’s game. I scramble to shut the console off but DK’s screech from the screen stops me, his cry pitched up so high that it almost wasn’t identifiable anymore. I look back up and DK’s face is fully taking up the screen, his frown turned back into his emotionless smile. The victory music starts to play, but this time, it’s slow and somber. I can’t handle it anymore - this time when I go for the power button, nothing stops me and the game blinks out as I press it.
I pull out the cartridge as fast as I can and run downstairs to throw it into the trash, not even taking a moment to give it a second thought as I throw away what I thought was one of my favorite games. I even take the trash out despite the bag not being full, desperate to get as far away from the game as possible.
When I walk back in the house, I feel sudden exhaustion that forces me to sit on the couch. I pull out of my phone and consider talking to my friends about it, but where would I even start? Even though the game was acting weird when we played together, they’d never believe this. I sigh and put my phone back in my pocket. I decide that I don’t want to sleep in my room tonight because of the N64’s presence. Even though it hadn’t been the console itself, there was no denying the negative aura that had been present in my room ever since we started playing the game again.
For now, I decide to rest. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to play again after that. Maybe one day, just to reassure myself that what I experienced wasn’t the game… I know I’m not dreaming, but surely something was off with my copy.
I can only hope no one else had to go through what I did.
-
Donkey Kong squeezes his eyes shut as the screams of his dying friends fill his ears again – he can’t keep count of how many times they’ve been forced to do this… He was forced to be the catalyst of death as he pulled his friends into the pit of sand, their final words lost to the sand filling their mouths as they suffocated to death. The other games were not like this, but this one was different.
It was real. The body he wore was Bowser’s skin, the Koopa King having died long ago once Donkey Kong was forced into the suit. His friends were no longer themselves, but copies, just like everyone else in the game.
Except for him. Only he remained as the original, the one who had been programmed to have fun with his friends. This, though, was not what he wanted. He was forced to smile as his friends die over and over again, his unending spinning in the sandpit the cause.
Maybe one day it would stop if he could convince the copies to break from their part. While he wouldn’t be free, at least it could end.
Donkey Kong would wait.
One day, he would get his wish.

Hamanda Week [Day 6: Au (Game store/College AU)]
@hamanda-week
This one is the longest of the bunch!
Both Amanda and Hannah are 19 in this one and are also attending Luna Nova University.
Also special thanks to @amanda-oneill for helping me come up with ideas for this one!
Read on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25257931/chapters/61536790
It was early April, stores all around the town of Blytonbury were putting up decorations for the Easter season. Over the next few weeks, customers would be rushing into the town’s many stores to pick up Easter gifts.
One of these establishments was The Game Shack, a small video game store located on Woodward st that had been operating for well over ten years.
Around the corner from the store was Hannah England, a student of Luna Nova University (also known as LNU) and an employee of The Game Shack.
Hannah had been running late for her shift that had started ten minutes ago. The only reason why she was running late was because she had slept in after a long night of studying and had also forgotten that she worked on weekends.
She was dashing down the street in the rain with her store uniform under her hoodie. She was in such a rush that she didn’t even know who she was working with tonight, though it would be a surprise since she hadn’t met every single staff member yet and she had only been working at the store for around a month.
As soon as she found herself outside of the store, she took her hoodie off, revealing her employee uniform. She walked in and immediately started warming up.
However, Hannah saw something strange. There was someone sitting on an office chair behind the counter reading some sort of gaming magazine with their feet up on the front desk.
She couldn’t tell who the mystery reader was since the magazine was right in front of their face.
She decided that this was no way for someone to act and surely wasn’t one of the store’s hard-working team members. So she had no choice but to tell them off.
“Excuse me but you shouldn’t be here and don’t you know that it’s rude to put your feet up on desks?”
The magazine reader groaned a little before putting the magazine down and standing up from the chair to reveal herself. A tall, well-built redhead with dazzling emerald green eyes.
At the sight of her face, Hannah was in complete shock. It was the last person that she thought she would be working with today or at all. It was someone she knew but wasn’t exactly friends with. It was the person she’d be working with for every day of the weekend over the next month due to a lack of staff.
“Amanda O’Neill?! You work here?!” she cried out as her co-worker gave a cocky grin and laughed.
“Yep. Didn’t wanna ruin the surprise for you and damn, was it worth keeping it a secret because you should’ve seen your face!”
Amanda O’Neill was another student of Luna Nova University that Hannah was all too familiar with. Not only was her good friend, Diana, dating Atsuko Kagari who was great friends with Amanda but as well she was known as the best person on LNU’s well-known fencing team, winning several awards for the university.
Though she was annoyed by her presence, Hannah thought that Amanda actually looked good in the store’s tacky looking bright red uniforms, which was rare since no one seemed to be able to pull off even looking half-good in the stupid shirts.
“I didn’t even know you were into gaming whatsoever considering how you seem to be always flaunting your fencing wins when you’re not slacking off.”
Amanda rolled her eyes and chuckled as her shit-eating grin stuck to her face.
“England, first of all, I am an absolute gaming expert, and second of all, why wouldn’t I want to be proud of my wins?”
Hannah sighed, this was not going to be an easy month of work.
“You better not make this hard for me O’Neill.” She replied, ignoring Amanda’s response to her previous question.”
“Eh, to be honest with you, I think this’ll be quite easy,” Amanda said with her signature toothy grin on her face while doing her signature finger guns.
And so began a long day of work for Hannah and an apparently easy day of work for Amanda.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Though the store had opened around half an hour ago, no customers had come in yet. So, in the meanwhile, Hannah decided to talk to Amanda but only because she had already done every other task and chore that needed to be done as of then.
Amanda was still flipping through her gaming magazine which seemed to be an issue on the best retro gaming consoles of all time.
Hannah was interested, she had grown up playing many of her dad’s older consoles that he brought back from his business trips since he was an avid gamer himself. That was why Hannah was working here, because of her somewhat secret interest in gaming that only a few people, including Amanda, knew about.
“So, what is your favourite retro console?” Hannah asked, genuinely curious as to what the redhead would respond with.
Amanda looked up from her magazine and smiled.
“PS1, no doubt about it.”
Hannah decided to try to pick Amanda’s so-called ‘expert’ gaming brain.
“And why would that be?”
Amanda knew exactly what England was thinking and trying to do. Doubt her gaming expertise and try to pick her brain. Many people had done this before and were surprised to see the star fencer blurt out many facts and other bits of information about many different consoles.
“Because of all the amazing games in its massive library, duh”
Hannah still wasn’t convinced by Amanda’s ‘expertise’.
“Well, I wanna know why you think it’s better than the N64 even though I admittedly love the PS1 a lot as well”. Hannah grinned. “I too, know many things about gaming”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a lengthy and surprisingly intelligent conversation, Both girls had surprised each other thanks to all of their useless facts and opinions about various consoles. In the end, they both agreed that Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, and Metal Gear Solid were the best PS1 games. However, Amanda wouldn’t give up on her opinion that Conker’s Bad Fur Day was the best N64 game despite Hannah’s protests of saying it was obviously Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Suddenly, a customer had finally come in.
A short and chubby, 30-something looking man with a long beard, glasses, and balding hair strolled into the store. He took a few glances around and then squinted his eyes at Amanda and Hannah as he approached them.
Hannah looked at Amanda, who was swinging around in the office chair in boredom.
I guess I’ll have to take this one. Hannah thought to herself as she greeted the custom with the usual “Hi, how can help you”.
The man had an annoyed look on his face.
“Uh is there someone I could talk to that has a little bit more gaming knowledge?”
This question caught Amanda’s attention. She had knowledge of these types of gamers and what they did.
If he said anything more like that to Hannah, Amanda would come up and kick his ass.
“Um, why?” Hannah responded, offended by the fact that this man thought that she knew nothing about gaming.
“Because I want to talk to someone who actually knows something about video games instead of people of your kind,” he said snootily.
Hannah had no time to even respond because Amanda had already gotten up from her chair with anger in her piercing green eyes and was standing right in front of the man, in an extremely intimidating fashion.
“Listen up, bucko…” She started with a low growl.
“Just because we’re women doesn’t mean we have any less gaming intel than you if anything, we probably have more so if that’s how you’re gonna think, leave and don’t ever talk to her like that ever again if you do come back! Understood?” Amanda said with pure anger in her voice.
She was not going to let anybody come in and treat either of them in that way.
The man simply gulped and backed out of the store in terror.
Hannah was in extreme awe. Seeing Amanda protect her was something she never expected in a million years but also made her blush a little for some odd reason.
Amanda took several deep breaths to calm herself down. She was glad that she was able to protect Hannah even though the two of them weren’t really friends.
“Amanda that was… amazing…” Hannah managed to utter out as the redhead turned back to her with a smile on her face.
“Thanks, I guess.” Amanda awkwardly scratched the back of her neck. “Are you ok?”
Hannah smiled but was confused on the inside. Why did Amanda O’Neill of all people want to step up and protect her?
“I’m fine but seriously, how did you do that?” she curiously asked.
Amanda flashed a proud grin.
“I simply just don’t take shit from sexist assholes like that. They mess with me or my friends and they won’t like what they get.”
Hannah was even more confused. Was Amanda referring to her as a friend?
“You see me as a friend?” she asked
“I guess so”
They both smiled. Though they may not have been too familiar with each other, they both had a feeling that this usually long and hard month was going to be more bearable with each other.
Hannah didn’t know why Amanda suddenly wanted to protect her but damn, did she want to learn how to intimidate like that.
Amanda, on the other hand, was amazed by the myriad of knowledge of gaming history she had. Though she may have done heaps of research through magazines and websites, Amanda didn’t know all too much about consoles that were reasonably obscure whereas Hannah knew all about them since her father was always bringing them home to her as a kid. She had no idea why she suddenly had the urge to protect Hannah but all she knew was that she felt like it was her duty to do so. Surely there was a good reason behind why she felt like that.
“Welp, I guess we’re gonna be stuck together for the next month” Amanda gave a mischief filled smile.
This could either be the best or the worst month of my life. Hannah mused to herself as sighed.
Amanda just kept grinning, she didn’t know why she wanted to protect Hannah like that but it felt nice knowing that she was safe.
“Please don’t make me regret this, O’Neill,” Hannah rolled her eyes up.
The two of them didn’t know why they suddenly felt fine in each other’s company but maybe, just maybe, there was something more going on...

Castlevania Season 3 Trailer and Poster Theories Part 1: Characters and Posters
So if you’re just joining us, hi and welcome.
With the release of the Season 3 trailer for Castlevania, I figured I might as well break this down to see what’s in store for the characters and how this may connect to the future of the series. (Spoilers abound for a number of Castlevania games, so you have been warned.)
Realized this was really long so you have a warning that if you are reading this on mobile it may be better to read on the computer.
So this is probably during the fight between Alucard and the Japanese warrior we see in the trailer. Two things about this moment: One I’m a bit worried that Alucard is going to push himself too much. He absolutely needs to rest as if he’s still awake for years to come then the whole situation with Symphony of the Night has less weight to it. Two is the fact that he’s enjoying himself, meaning that this is a positive for him and what’s going to happen in the future in regard to people becoming friends with him and him having a life.
I’m assuming this is where Alucard is talking to the Japanese warrior that we meet in the forest. He’s explaining to them what happened to Dracula and what is up with the castle. However, this whole “Dracula is dead by my hand,” and Sypha and Trevor’s...is important. They are missing a key factor in ending him for good, that being the stone that Dracula has on him. As long as the Crimson Stone exists, he can keep coming back, again and again, and that means Death will have to be coming into play soon enough.
Again, he’s activating his powers, which, if he overuses them this could be a bad thing. I’m wondering if they’re going to put him to sleep after this one, or if he’s going to be around with Simon...Please don’t be awake with Simon. Please. It’s sort of cool seeing them in motion though, more so than with Season 2.
Okay, so a lot of speculation right now is that this is Zead, aka the man that teaches Hector about the Innocent Devil’s in Curse of Darkness that you use in-game. Zead is actually another important character in Curse of Darkness as he’s Death in disguise. His goal was to use Hector to beat Isaac, and then have Hector consumed by the curse to bring back Dracula.
However, another option may be a possible flashback to Leon’s story and this is just a priest that is traveling with the Crusaders. Though the outfits make me think that this is a later time period. If it’s not Zead, then he could be a character that comes into play as an introduction to the issues with Carmilla or ties into the village that was attacked by Legion minions.
So we officially have a title for him. The Judge, it seems, and he’s voiced by Jason Isaacs. Important to note that the name Judge is used as part of Judgement, which is another term for Death. Though I do have to wonder if he and Morana are one and the same. Or if he’s a red herring to her being actually Death. It wouldn’t be the first time that that happened.
Right, so I’m going to focus more on the two other Vampires on the left and the right rather than the center two at this moment.
So the Lady on the left is giving me a few options to work with here based on her looks.
Her name is apparently Morana and she’s voiced by Yasmine Al Massri. Morana is the Slavic goddess of Death and Rebirth. She is a winter goddess as well and can be depicted as an older crone character. What’s odd here is that they’re not going based on that idea. Her name means death so clearly, we have a case here of a character that may be more powerful than we first think.
So as for whom she may be based on the three following women are my best bets.
Actrise is personally one of my best guesses given the design of the character.
Actrise is a witch that turned people into Vampires. While not in-game technically a vampire herself, she is a vile piece of work, killing 100 children to get Dracula to make her immortal. In the game Legacy of Darkness, she plays one of the major antagonists for the lead Cornell and later for Carrie Fernandez, who is trying to get back her sister Camilla who was turned into a vampire by Actrise. I can easily see them not adapting Legacy of Darkness, so turning Actrise into a helper for Camilla would make sense.
Of course, there is the option of the second-best well known female vampire...
Elizabeth Bathory
I would have picked her as my main pick, however, Elizabeth is just as well known as Carmilla is in regard to being a solo female Villian that I can’t see them putting her as a lower-ranked assistant to Carmilla. So while this could be a possibility for our lovely lady vampire in blue and yellow, I just don’t see it as an option. But you never know. And Bathory’s name is just as well known, so that’s an added bonus.
The Countess was going to be a baddie in a Castlevania game that got canceled so she would be the easiest to adapt, and our lady Vampire has a lot of her looks. (High cheekbones, narrow nose, even the curved ears as an option and the high arched eyebrows.)
A character that was designed to be a main bad in a N64 Castlevania game. Not much is known about this woman, other than she was called the Female Dracula and that she was Dracula’s lover for a while. She can create a portal to resurrect him.
Next, we have Striga, who I thought was a guy, but is apparently a woman. She is voiced by Ivana Milicevic.
Now a Striga is a different sort of vampire and more a demon. But I do find it odd that we have two characters here named on two Slavic myths connected to death. What’s interesting about Striga is that I thought she may have been a guy that was connected to Alucard, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
Striga’s are born with two hearts and two souls and have two sets of teeth. They are bird-like and change into bird-like creatures that hunt humans for their blood.
My main guess is that Striga probably is based more on the Lady Bats, Lillith or more likely Draculina from Order of Ecclesia.
They are female vampires that are loyal to Dracula, although in this case, Striga may be more connected to Lilith as she seems to be seen and shown with Lenore more than with Morana. This makes me think that Striga is the lesser of the two in power and that Carmilla and Morana may be more the heads of this operation.
So the last character and the one that everyone wants to know about is this redhead. Her name is Lenore and she’s voiced by Jessica Brown Findlay.
The name Lenore is taken from the name Elenore and was commonly used in the middle ages due to several queens having that name (Elenore of Aquitaine, Elenore of Provance, and Elenore of Castile) and comes from the name Aenor, which is a Latinized form of a Germanic name we don’t know the meaning of.
Lenore is most well known for being the lead character in the Raven that Poe’s poet pines for. His Lost Lenore and I have a feeling that she is going to be a bit like that and a bit like Lucy from the Coppola version of Dracula.
Some have speculated that this is a version Rosaly, Hector’s future wife from Curse of Darkness. However she doesn’t match at all, not personality, nor looks. I have a feeling they purposely made her too seem like Rosaly since there are some similarities, but very generic.
As you can see, long hair, very cheery-looking and innocent. Yet the hair and eyes don’t match at all. And even with the drastic changes they have done to the characters, see Isaac, Rosaly would need to have a certain look because of Julia later on.
As you can see there’s an innocence to her, and while the woman’s dress is similar to nun wear, it’s clearly not the woman that later saves Hector. So who is she?
Well, there's the option of the Succubus character from a number of games.
the attitude and the look on the face, along with the hair and fangs would at least connect to that overall innocent look that the character is going for.
However I think this may be Laura, Carmilla’s lover Laura, or she may be going by the name Lenore.
So in the lore of Castlevania, Laura is Carmilla’s servant, and in the book, Laura was her food source. In the games, Carmilla attaches herself to the player and drains them of their hearts to help her mistress. She acts like an innocent victim but in truth, she’s just trying to lure the player into a false sense of security. Defeating Carmilla leads to her transforming into a fighter (in the first game she had cat ears as a nod to the Konami lady and a nod to the book where Carmilla fed off her in the form of a large cat),
Who then proceeds to attack the player for defeating her mistress.
Given what she’s doing to Hector in the poster and what we see her doing in the trailer I don’t doubt that she’s playing with Hector to make him easier to feed on for Carmilla and screwing with him for her mistress as a plaything. They stand close together and it’s clear by the fact that she’s on the same side as Carmilla that she’s there to be a creature that is going to cause issues going forward.
More than likely, given her outfit, she was probably once a nun in the same church as Rosely and may feature in getting backstory for what happened to the church that Rosely was a part of.
Alright, this is gonna be a doozy. So there’s a lot of speculation on who this woman is. Everything from Baba Yaga to a whole new character. So I have three major options here for who she could be.
Voiced by Barbra Steele, this is Miranda, a strange woman that Isaac meets. The thing is I think he’s in possibly the city near the Baljihet Mountains where the Garibaldi Temple is, that leads to the Tower of Evermore, where they may have put Legion. So why am I bringing this up? Well, there are various locations in Castlevania that get re-explored in other games, and one of those places is Aljiba, a coastal city that houses two characters that could play parts in this series. The Crystal Trader, who could be Sala, (more on that down lower) and the Old Crone, who is right below.
Option One is the Old Crone from Vampire Killer the sequel game in Japan to Castlevania.
Old Crone is a merchant in the castle where Dracula is. By whipping them you get items and discounts and the like. (Yes it’s weird.) She also will give you hints of where Simon in the game can get a piece of Dracula, in this case, his eyes. It wouldn’t be too odd if Miranda could be used as this hint giver to Isaac going forward on his journey to resurrect Dracula. Physically the character appears to be this sort of person. However, the marking on the neck and the robes have me speculating otherwise.
Option two is the more likely character and one that has direct ties to Dracula himself and could explain the marking on the neck.
Drolta Tzuentes is a character from Castlevania Bloodlines and is an assistant of Elizabeth Bathory.
There’s a lot of speculation around this character as she is very mysterious and was the one that revived Dracula’s niece Elizabeth in the game. She’s said to be very powerful and her looks seem to mirror that of the woman we see talking to Isaac. However, another big clue that this could be the character is that she may have been an alternative form to Death. (In the game she’s from it’s hinted heavily that she is.)
We know now that a character named “Judge” will be appearing, as played by Jason Isaacs. Why this is important is that this could be an allusion name to Death, and having both actors play different forms of the character makes sense.
IF this is the case this is a big deal due to what’s on the woman’s neck.
So if you don’t know Death is one of the main characters in Castlevania and he’s there to usually help revive Dracula as the two have a very interesting deal. When Mathias became Dracula he partnered with Death to take down the Vampire Walter whom Death was no longer interested in working with. Now Walter Bernhard, who was the Dracula before Dracula, and the man who took away Sara from Leon Belmont.
So why am I mentioning this? Well, Walter had on him one of two stones that are very important to the Lore of Castlevania. The Crimson Stone, which is the most important stone in the games history and what makes a person into Dracula (we will be getting back to that., and the Ebony stone which is a stone that allows the user to envelop its surroundings in eternal night and it was believed to control Death (it can’t).
It’s really hard to see but in the center of the old woman’s neck, there’s a star with a round circular object. At the end of the game Lament of Innocence either Dracula or Death had the Ebony stone.
If this is the stone, it would make sense then that this old woman would be Death in disguise, and explain her desires for killing them all, since the use of the dead would allow for Death to bring back Dracula using Isaac or Hector’s or even Trevor’s body to do so.
The other important thing to note is that the Belmonts have had a situation where Dracula has possessed them. So this is not beyond the scope for them to try this with Trevor.
On top of this, the image of Miranda that is used for the cast revel shows Miranda powering up, or using some sort of energy. This energy is a pinkish purple.
Why is this important? Well, that color has connections directly to two characters in Castlevania Lore.
The first is Walter Bernhard, the Vampire that came before Dracula and lead directly to the reason why the Belmonts hunt vampires, and why Dracula exists. During the game Lament of Innocence Walter dies and that color engulfs him as he’s dying (and probably being sucked into the Crimson stone).
Same colors, making me think this maybe some form of activation of her using the stone or giving something to Isaac.
The other option is Death again, where we see him using his powers, which again match the colors that we see Miranda using at this moment.
In both cases, this is when Death is activating his power, and as I said Death can show up in any form. Including an old woman.
Ignoring the water, I want to point out the glass shards. It seems like they’re trying to harm Hector or punish him in some way. The glass shards make me think they shattered glass on the bars, and the water might be from a pitcher or something like that over a bucket. It’s clear that they’re treating Hector as nothing but an abused pet for them to play with, and I hope we get to see a stronger Hector break free of that. What has me concerned though is the fact that he’s naked, namely because I wonder if there are some implications of assault going on.
So I’m not sure if Hector has a collar on when he’s getting hit by the water. However, we can see that he’s dressed when interacting with Lenore (I’m using the name because it makes sense that this would be her). His hand is out to her probably as she’s tempting him or offering him something and then she pulls him to her and does the “Good Boy” moment.
It has me thinking that she’s going to add to the issues of distrust that Hector has and that Rosely is going to have to work through during the next season if she’s not in this one. I strongly suspect that this character is going to try to push Hector into helping her out stopping the others or promising to help him only to betray him in the end.
So we know this is part of Isaac watching something, and probably has a connection to the green tower that we’re seeing. The reason this is significant is that Isaac ended up using some very strong powers to fight against Hector, and if he’s able to hold back Legion with his army, even subject it to his will, well then this could be an interesting fight if they go deeper into the lore of the Curse of Darkness game.
Isaac’s army. So it seems that they’re having Isaac and his army of monsters coming after Legion who is cooped up with that tower. This is known as the Tower of Evermore it’s a sort of Battle arena in the game. So this is probably where Isaac ends up doing a lot of his dirty work in forging devils for his army that he intends to use on the trio and possibly Hector.
The moon has always played an important part in Castlevania as a symbol of the mysteries of the night. The fact that we have Isaac on a black horse, cloaked in white (very much all things that could be associated with Death and the supernatural), gives rise to me suspecting that his journey into darkness is going to be happening a lot more significantly going forward. This is probably the same scene as him looking down and him with his monster army facing the tower.
I strongly suspect that these are servants or citizens in Japan that were captured by the female Japanese vampire (I think her name was Cho), and they are being saved by the two vampire hunters we see later. It’s clear from this shot that they seemed resigned to their fate as food for her and her minions. This is also more than likely a flashback episode to give backstory to our female vampire hunter that is fighting Alucard.
So here we have the duo that is probably Taka (Toru Uchikado) and Sumi (Rila Fukushima). So I don’t know what their crests means; I’ve been trying to look that up, and have yet to find a family crest that matches, but more than likely these two are siblings under the same family as Mina Hakuba. Mina, for those that don’t know, Mina is the childhood friend of Soma Cruz, the reincarnation of Dracula. During the time of Aria of Sorrow, Soma came to visit Mina in Japan, as the two seemed to be developing feelings for one another. Mina is the main shrine Maiden of the Hakuba clan, and they helped in the saving of the world and have tied to Alucard.
We can assume that the fight between Sumi and Alucard happen after their fight with Cho (Japanese Vampire) and that Sumi may have been the one to make it out alive, or that she’s trying to find a way to convert her brother back to normal, ala the whole Order of Ecclesia situation.
We know by the image of this scene that she’s outmatched so Alucard, it stands to reason, is going to try to protect her from probably making some bad mistakes and help her find a way to help her brother out, or free him from possibly Carmilla. This very much could be like the Fernandez cousins in Legacy of Darkness.
In that game, Carrie Fernandez was seeking out a way to save her elder sister Carmilla who had become a Vampire thanks to Actrisa, and is used as an obstacle to get to Dracula for Carrie’s Quest. In this case Sumi takes on the role of Carrie and Taka becomes Carmilla, who was turned and is right now a servant to the Vampires.
If these two are set up in that way, then it makes sense why Sumi would be paired with Alucard in this manner. Both are resolved in trying to fix a mistake they made a long time ago, and Sumi probably could become a strong Ally for the team, and more than likely will be returning to Japan after this story concludes. If they are of the clan that Mina’s connected to it means that this could show exactly how Alucard became connected with the Hakuba clan in Japan if Sumi came to destroy Dracula.
It’s also clear that Taka is probably the one fighting with the vampires in the scene below, and given we only see Sumi later, he’s likely to die or be cursed as a vampire. Which could tie into the idea of why she would travel that far to kill Cho or Dracula himself.
Japanese Vampire’s underlings are facing Taka. Interesting design for them as they are more like the zombies from Japanese myths than the traditional vampires which is what Cho is.
There’s also this fight with a samurai vs Cho and given his armor is not like that of what we see in Taka fighting, this means he’s someone else. He also looks a bit on the white side, so I have to wonder if he’s actually connected to Samurai William who worked for the Emperor at one point. William was an Englishman who became a Samurai in the Emperor's court for a long while, he wrote a book about it. It could be that he’s trying to take her down so that she doesn’t harm the royal family, or he self-styled himself as a vampire killer.
Either way, this has to be a flashback and connected to the whole situation with Taka and Sumi.
So this Ugly looking thing is a piece of Legion. Legion is a rather large monster that is hard to deal with and seconds later we see it crashing down into a church, and cutting to The Judge who seems to be sent at some point to deal with them.
So as you can see there, that’s Legion. It’s a huge fleshy body made of many corpse of those that were sacrificed to it. It seems here that rather than just having it crush it’s enemy it’s dropping parts of it as part of the attack.
This is in line with its attacks in Curse of Darkness, and how it causes issues for others, with Zombies that explode. On top of this, it’s center is a human-looking being that has a Nuculais in the center.
This is probably what Isaac is after, and Germain may be manipulating him to get it for use regarding Dracula.
So this poster has a LOT going on.
First let’s take care of the Stain Germain at the top. He’s being played by Bill Nighy.
So who is Saint Germain? Well, he’s part of the Time Watcher’s group, whose goal is still mysterious as get out. He’s known to talk and interact with Trevor in the Pachinko versions of Castlevania III, and according to history, he was an alchemist of sorts.
During the Curse of Darkness game, he’s trying to stop Hector from stopping Isaac, though he’s not saying why. He is not an enemy and seems to have a hate relationship with Zead (Death), though why that is we don’t know. He’s referenced by Aeon, the time traveler, and he himself mentions events farther in the future, such as the battle with Dracula in 1999.
What’s interesting here is that they have him holding what possibly is either a philosophers stone or the Crimson Stone. Now this is interesting because that stone is part of Dracula and given to him by Death himself. It holds the Soul of Walter Bernhard, Dracula’s enemy, and is known for being the treasure of the Vampires. Dracula needs this to come back.
Why he has it, I can only guess it’s to stop whatever the heck Death has planned.
Other interesting factors. Hector on the left in Chains mirroring Trevor wrapped up in the Vampire Killer. A lot of Germain’s point is Destiny and both Hector and Trevor want to be free of them. Both are tightly bound, but Trevor is clearly pulling at his, trying to get it to stay away from causing his death. We also see both Sypha and Alucard both looking on in a way that seems to indicate connections to the heroes.
Then you have Isaac, who is slowly being wrapped up by thorns, but isn’t there yet. So that means his full plunge into the dark isn’t complete. He’s still fighting against it, and it may connect him to the heroes at this point.
Carmilla is clearly the opposing force here to the good Alucard. And we see that Hector is naked and trapped, though he’s being held lightly by Lenore, who seems to be acting gentle, but something about her look and set up seems to be hiding things. This is not someone that is truly being gentle to him, and, given that she’s probably a succubus, and working for Carmilla, she’s more than likely going to end up breaking his heart in some way.
So the Captain as played by Lance Reddick. Not much is known of this guy, but if I have to hazard a guess, he may be connected to Isaac’s story and probably is based around the Captain from Rondo of blood, who pilots a ghost ship and is a later enemy in the game.
Another option in regard to this is that the Captain may be the one that brings Isaac back from where he’s at for the moment. He seems to be a bit scared but maybe Isaac sees a kindred spirit in him and intends to use his services fairly as a means of traveling around to get to the location that he needs to.
Or he’s one of the men that Isaac ends up hating for whatever reason.
Or he’s actually the one that brings Sumi to where Alucard is. It’s a bit hard to judge based on the name the Captain as it doesn’t seem like he’s going to be playing a huge role, but maybe he’s just a nod to the games in this case. Though why hire a well-known actor to play a part without a name if he’s just going to be cannon fodder?
There’s also the chance that he’s actually the Ferryman, a character who actually goes and transports the heroes in the game. He seems to know Alucard. In the game the Ferryman is neutral, choosing to just help those that need to move around and such. So in that sense, he’s a lot like the ferryman of the river Stix in hades in Greek myth.
Though the likelihood is that he’s going to come back as some servant to Isaac.
Sala, has an interesting name meaning, in Arabic it means Order. And Sala here is voiced by Navid Negahban.
Now, who Sala is is a mystery but given we have an old crone like figure in Miranda, Sala maybe like the Crystal Trader in Aljiba who exchanges crystals in Simon’s Quest.
I can only assume for the most part he’s going to be an original character that could have links to maybe the Lords of Shadow versions of Castlevania, but since a lot of this has connections to the original games, and given his appearance, I’m going to guess he’s going to be linked with Isaac and his journey. Namely warning him of going down a dark path, or offering him help and assistance if he can destroy the Legion monster that is plaguing his town.
Given that he looks rather upset here just a bit, I think he’s in an argument. Now he also could be the leader of the town that Trevor is in, with Sypha, and owns the house that burns down. It’s hard really to say because there’s no other character in the games that quite match him, save the Crystal Traders maybe.
Sypha’s change of an outfit is interesting. It’s far more dramatic in nature and more built for a fighter and a bit of a ninja-style, what with the wrap in the middle and the leggings and free-flowing arms. This is really the first we’ve seen Sypha do this with her magic, indicating that she’s getting stronger with her elemental control.
So one other interesting thing is the Ice steps in the air. She apparently can create those now. This is probably during the werewolf fight that Trevor has since it’s in the forest. This is probably a deal with the town leaders to get rid of some monsters that are plaguing them.
So there’s speculation on who this could be, but it looks like he’s going to just be a cult member, possibly a relation to Orlock or Shaft, both of whom are villains from other games in the franchise. Though he’s clearly human so I’m guessing he probably will be an Original Character for the show. He’s probably part of a cult that is going to be trying to resurrect Dracula under the Judge. and more than likely will be just a side character to be used as cannon fodder.
Remember that house that’s on fire with the windows? Well, that’s it in the background. So it seems like the Cult staged something to burn down the town after Trevor beat the hell out of their leader. Or enforcer, or whoever he may be.
So recall way above about the Leviathan Cross? And how the two dudes were dressed before Trevor socked them? Well right now we can see that they are clearly part of a cult, and the Levithan Cross is their symbol. But how does that connect to the room? It could very well be that this is the group that Carmilla was referencing earlier along with Isaac. This group could be working for the Judge to bring back Dracula, or they could be working on their own to do so. Either way that room may be connected to this group given the alchemy symbol.
However, I’m betting anything that that room may very well be connected to Carmilla’s castle and Hector was the one that drew that. Or one of the other members of the club.
Okay, this one is something that keeps bugging me. There is no hint of Grant at all so far in this series. Yet, here we have a werewolf that has the wrappings that he wears in Judgement, minus the spikes, and of all things Grant’s red pants.
So a few things about Grant DaNasty. As a noble thief, he was assigned as part of a group to go deal with Dracula and he ended up being transformed into a monster to act as a guard. During Castlevania III he’s freed by Trevor and pledges to help them out and later stays to help rebuild his home.
Grant was just seen as a demon in the game, but making him a werewolf would tie into the whole Legacy of Darkness, and Circle of the Moon that came later. Also, the spikes on the arms could be used to help climb walls and the like, since Grant is the stealthy one of the group.
Furthermore, the reason I bring up the red pants is that every human design of Grant has him looking like this.
As you can see, bright red pants, much like the werewolf, and wraps on his arm. Now you can easily move the story of Grant from Dracula to Carmilla and have him be her guard. It would make sense too to have Grant be the one to inform Trevor and Sypha of the Cult or Carmilla’s doings. As a thief, he can get in and out faster and get information. Furthermore, it seems the best option when bringing him in as Grant is just as important to the team as Alucard, and maybe more so given he’s the one that stays to clean the messes up. Having his assistance could lead to some interesting moments and also leads later to the Belmont and DaNasty family connections for the future.
You see this group again, a Belmont, a DaNasty, a Beldanas and Alucard, all teamed up to fight Dracula one last time in 1999, and before then the Belmonts and DaNastys have had a close friendship teaming up at different points in history to fight Dracula and his minions. So not having Grant would be bad.
So I think, this werewolf will be Grant. Or at least I hope it will be Grant.
So New Look for Trevor Belmont it seems...
He’s ditched his original look and now proudly it seems wears the Belmont crest right over his heart, probably indicating that he’s embraced his destiny in helping those in need. there seems to be a bit there connected to the 2008 comic series as well in the upper part of the look.
It’s a little more connected to his Curse of Darkness look.
And there’s some going on with the look from the Pachinko games as well...
So it seems more and more they are leaning into Curse of Darkness for this story. What’s also interesting in this case is that Trevor’s personality has drastically changed. While he’s still rough and tumble we see that he’s more willing to help out, he’s not drinking and he’s asking for help with things rather than just running off and not facing down consequences.
He’s become a more mature fighter and feels belief again in what he’s doing. What’s going to be fun in watching is how his older self (if he’s at all going to show up in Simon’s story) will behave as a father figure. Simon is the golden boy and in a lot of ways is like his father in that he’s brash and somewhat willing to spoil for a fight. But he has his mother’s gentle nature and is willing to go out of his way to protect those in need.
So seeing Trevor here, dealing with something that may be way bigger than just Dracula is going to be fun and probably lead him to a better understanding of the cost of Leon Belmont and why he did what he did.
So The newest piece of art and again some interesting things.
Let’s look at the characters. We have our main trio, and oddly Alucard is at the forefront here. He’s not looking sad, but more like he’s looking when talking to Sumi about the situations. Unlike the earlier poster where it’s clear that he regrets killing his father.
Carmilla and Leigon are flanking him on the two sides, making me think he’s grappling with his actions leading to both these monsters rising because of it. I have to wonder if there’s going to be a moment where Carmilla tries to tempt Alucard, and which of these two are going to be the final boss for this season: Carmilla or Legion.
Then there’s Trevor, and he’s using the Vampire killer and wrapping everyone up in its chains, effectively indicating that they’re all wrapped up in this whole destiny thing. Sypha is beside him, but looking ahead, as with Trevor and Alucard, showing that she’s trying to look forward to the future.
The whip is glowing, as with her magic ball, indicating that there’s going to be more to the magic and history behind the Vampire killer. The fact that Trevor’s using it shows that he’s embraced that destiny for himself and Sypha is beside him.
Then there are the roses. Typically this indicates love, which is something that has a deep connection to the Castlevania lore. All four characters that are not some evil amalgams monster have some form of love in their lives. Alucard had a familial love for his late mother and father and is dealing with the guilt of loving and losing them. Carmilla has a love of power and life and possibly Lenore, whom she may be doing a lot of mistakes in order to protect. Trevor and Sypha love each other romantically.
Now another love that happens is tragic love and that could be seen as the love between Leon Belmont and Sara Trantoul, his late fiance who sacrificed herself to create the Vampire Killer (in here the upgraded Morning Star Whip) after she was slowly becoming a vampire when Walter Bernhard captured her and bit her for his own amusement. This same Tragic love was visited twice on Dracula. Once for Elisabetha when he was human as Mathias and she died of illness when he was away during the crusades, causing him to reject god and take up plans to become a vampire. And again when her reincarnation of Lisa came about and died due to her being seen as a witch.
So Roses can be love, and roses are also connected to Rosaly, Hector’s future wife who was a former nun and a healer for the church. So the images of Roses could be significant in that sense too.
Then there are the butterflies that we see in the picture. Butterflies don’t normally have any tie to symbols in Castlevania. However, the color might have some connections to Sara Trantoul.
Sara always wears blue in Lament of Innocence and is shown to be a kind and gentle soul who became twisted up in a fight between a man that lost the love of his life, and the man that wanted nothing more than the destruction and pain of love for his own amusement. So her being symbolized as a delicate butterfly would make perfect sense, along with the connection to Roses and thorns as we’ve seen with several pictures so far.
So that’s it for part one. Part 2 is going to cover more about the scenes in the trailer and hopefully showcase more about the plot moving forward.

Game of the Year 2020...?
Ive scrolled the list of games that came out this year to see what my GOTY ended up being, but turns out the only game I played in 2020 that released that year was, uh…….
Fucking good game but like I’m not gonna hand it GOTY by default (That goes to Hades, based solely impressions from other people). Actually, I’m not handing out any awards, really. So I guess I’m just gonna go over a bunch of the other games I did play last year, regardless of whether or not they came out then.
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
A mate got me this for my birthday in December 2019, and unlike the other games I got then (Kirby Star Allies which I burned through that month and Octopath which I still haven’t played) I spent a fair few hours playing it last year. This was before the sequel was announced, and also a little bit after the fact- figured I should try and finish one before playing the other. Unfortunately, I have yet to purchase Age of Calamity nor finish Definitive Edition, because the former is expensive and the latter is expansive. Holy shit there’s so much fucking content in this game. I don’t think I ever will finish it to be honest, though despite the repetitiveness it never really felt boring to me. It’s the only Warriors/Musou game I’ve played, and I’d be interested in trying others based on the experience.
(I’m not playing Fire Emblem Warriors though fuck that)
Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC: The Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra
Sword and Shield felt somewhat lacking on release, and while the DLCs released this year did much to try and fix this its still a bit shit that it required an extra paycheck out of you to get the full game- outside of outsourced mobile games like Go and Shuffle, or services such as Bank or Home, Pokemon has never actually had DLC/microtransactions, so this was a little disappointing. I’d argue that it absolutely wasn’t worth it when Isle was released, as fun as the content was it was again, lacking. Crown Tundra I would argue exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations, however- the new and returning mons are cool and welcome (I despised Calyrex’s design on first reveal but their behaviour in story redeemed it more than enough), and the Max Lair Adventure offered a surprisingly replayable romp that has been great to just try and grind out with friends. I can’t say I’d recommend the DLC pack though- only if because you’ve probably made up your mind already as to whether or not you’re getting it, or this doesn’t apply to you at all. I could also put basically every main series Pokemon game on here, seeing as I’m pretty sure I nuzlocked every region at some point during the year, but I don’t want to make this *that* long.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate Expansion Pass
Smash is still Smash. I don’t find myself playing it much on my own, and even in Perth get-togethers weren’t super common last year. As neat as the DLC characters released this year are for the franchise as a whole, none of them convinced me to play significantly more than usual, and I can’t wrap my head around half of them, so.
Also, I’m still salty about Byleth, and I actually really liked Three Houses, it was my first FE game. Why the fuck wasn’t it Claude????
Rivals of Aether
On the other hand, in the last few months I’ve found myself grinding match after match of Rivals with one of my best mates and the game is a fucking blast, holy shit. I still haven’t bought it for myself, but its basically 100% of the reason I have played 0 smash for the last few months since we’re too busy mashing Orcane vs Ranno over and over and not really getting tired of it. It requires a specific type of person to get into it, but if you’re in that group then its just an excellent game.
VA-11 Hall-A
I first played VA-11 Hall-A (Vallhalla, since typing that is a pain) by pirating it and playing it on my laptop in the dead of night.
It quickly became one of my favourite games of all time.
When the Switch port dropped, I felt obliged to actually pay for it this time around, since the developers had more than earned my money. And then I replayed it again, playing it on my switch in the dead of night (At least this time I had the excuse of being a nightshift worker). With the sequel unfortunately delayed into 2021, it might be time to run it back once more or drag more of my mates into Glitch City since I already forcibly exposed a few of em to it.
The post-credits title screen is still my phone background.
Fallout: New Vegas
I don’t really have much to say about FNV that hasn’t been said already, especially considering HBomberguy’s recently released video, but it is also on my top 5 list and I only got around to playing Lonesome Road and Dead Money this year. Also went out of my way to 100% achievement complete the game on Steam, which I believe is the first time I’ve done that for a game.
Zero Escape Series (Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors, Virtue’s Last Reward, Zero Time Dilemma)
The Danganronpa series’ less colourful sibling, Zero Escape was a series I finally got around to finishing after having borrowed a friend’s copy of VLR back in high school and playing it wrong due to not deleting his save file (oops,). I think VLR remains my favourite, and I really hope the series continues at some point (unlikely as it seems now) considering how ZTD missed the mark pretty hard. The first 2 games are still excellent mystery games and a lot of fun, though you do need somewhat of a tolerance for words.
A Hat in Time
Oh god this game is so fucking cute. Also, just an excellent platformer. Is the DLC still on sale? I should buy that.
Fallout 4
Its just not New Vegas. It just isn’t. I really tried with this game, I really did. The gunplay is great, modding and building shit is fun, but its just not the same.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
A couple years ago I bought a SNES Mini, but until 2020 I didn’t really have a convenient way of playing it seeing as my monitor didn’t have an HDMI port. But now I do have one with one, so I got to start playing this classic! And then stopped because of uni. Should finish that, probably.
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
Shit Keara I still have your copy sorry I’ll get back to it :<
Pokemon Stadium
I also managed to get my N64 up and running, and despite being the wrong region for most of the games available in local shops, I somehow managed to get Stadium for a great price. Got to dig out my old Red cartridge and anything. Fuck me though, this game is brutal. Seriously, Gen 1 battle mechanics are tough to deal with at the best of times, having to do battle after battle with said mechanics without losing is just nuts. I still haven’t managed to get Round 2 unlocked.
God, fuck you Blaine. Goddamn fire spin Rapidash motherfucker.
Super Mario 64 Speaking of, I managed to pick up a Japanese cartridge of SM64, complete with BLJ glitches and 3 entire save files. After much effort, I managed to actually get it working, and spent most of the night of Christmas getting smashed and trying to beat Bowser in the Fire Sea. I played a lot of the DS remake as a kid, and I feel like an idiot for struggling as much I did with the original.
This is all of course a buildup to the fact that I was lying about not assigning a GOTY. Because there is only one N64 game in my small collection deserving of Game of the Year, because its deserving of Game of the Year every year since its 1999 release.

Fading Summer
He held the purple controller with deadly hands, sitting shoulder to shoulder, feet from the TV with Kirishima, Denki, and Deku. The N64 you brought into the dorms has been the center of attention since you pulled it out of the dull cardboard box . Purple grape with one purple grape controller and the other jungle green. The other two controllers where black and midnight blue that you, the ash blonde, Kiri and Mina spent hours....weeks finding so more people could play either Mario kart or Smash bros together.
At first the scarlet eyed boy was aprahensive about the old gaming system. He saw how Kirishima and Pikachu would spend hours upon hours on their shared switch that could have been spent studying or training.
That was until he was challenged by you one lazy afternoon.
"Come on Katsu play one game with us!!!" Eiji begged, patting a spot between you and himself. Katasuki lounged on the couch, legs outstretched as he was planning to watch a movie before you two barged in.
Before you used your puppy dog eyes to get the remote so you two could play.
"No shark face." He sneered over the rim of his book. He locked eyes with you before a smile crept onto those soft lips.
"He's just scared he'll get his asked kicked is all Eiji." She said haunty, as she selected her character.
"Oh like hell I am." He snarls, climbing from the couch and forcing you and Kiri to scoot away from one another to make room.
He never could ignore the call of a challenge. And from then on he bested everyone, everytime in whatever game but you.
When he asked why you wouldn't want a switch instead your face lit up, as if reliving the bitter sweet nostalgia as you said.
"I've just had so many good times playing this with my friends and family. I just can't give it up."
So he had learned to love the feeling of the smooth plastic in his hands as this small thing was something that made him feel closer to you. Especially now that you two spent countless summer hours right here in front of the TV, laughing, shoulder to shoulder with a notebook keeping score of each others wins.
A notebook that lies open to the dark eyed boy, displaying the harsh tallies of class 1As winnings, everyone had at least one inky black tally before Katsuki played.
Everyone but you who had been absent since finishing dinner. His eyes wander to the stairs leading to the girls dorms before "PLAYER ONE WINNER" is bellowed from the TV.
"Come on Katsu let someone else win!" Mina whines as she pouts on the couch
"Nah you dip shits should just get better." He says dropping the controller to make his way to the couch.
"Where's Y/N?" Deku asks earning a glare from the ash blonde for asking first, "She's missing the last tournament before school starts again."
"Oh she said she wasn't feeling too well at dinner." Momo says, bringing the snacks from the kitchen. "She said she was going to bed."
You press the heels of your palms into your eyes.
"Get your shit together." You growl harshly at your reflection. Fat tears threatening to spill again, "Why are you crying over something so fucking stupid!"
Your reflection doesn't answer as you stare yourself in the eye, it only mirrors you splashing hot water onto your face as you scrub a towel over your cheeks.
When you hold eye contact again, it's as if you weren't crying.
You paced in your room, damning yourself for thinking sleep would soothe the weighted void that sits in your chest. Chiseling away at your heart until you were compelled to move.
To run, if even for a moment to have a taste of the dying summer air on your tongue one more time.
You stalk down the stairs quietly, having waited long enough for the tournament to be over. The light from the TV glows faintly in the dark hallway, you eased into the shadows on silent feet with your eyes on the prize.
"Oi, You're not as quiet as you think you are." You jump what feels like six feet in the air. Hand hovering over the cool handle of the front door.
The gruff voice comes from the direction of the living room and you do not need to turn around to know who it belongs too.
You thought for sure that whoever was in the living room was either knocked out or absorbed in the late night TV.
You feel your heart hammer in your chest, blinking furiously at the lingering tears. You're afraid your voice might give you away but your hesitation will tip him off.
"Oh Katsu, you're up so late. And on the first school night!" You tease him as you normally would, though you keep your back to him, he sucks his teeth.
"And where are you going at 10:30 at night?" You don't have to see him to know he is crossing his arms with distaste.
"Im just stepping out to the convenience store." You huff, not sure how much longer you can use your voice evenly.
The sun had already set so early tonight compared to the rest of summer. The sun no longer wanting to kiss the earth, to kiss you for over eight hours a day.
No it was dwindling and dwindling fast.
And that *scared* you.
"This late? By yourself? I don't think so." He says darkly. Hiding the concern in his voice the only way he knows how, with malice.
"Oh Katsuki-kun. I'm a strong independent young hero. I can handle myself for a ten minute walk." Except it won't be a ten minute walk, your feet will urge you further. You pull the handle and with it the door just for it to be slammed shut by a hot palm. He looms over you now, so close you can feel his breath on your ear when he speaks.
"Not by yourself. It can wait til morning. If its medicine I'll get it." You feel his eyes on you as they survey, you bite your lip debating on tricking him.
On sending him on a wild goose chase just so you could sneak out on that ten minute walk.
But you think better of it, he would be honest with you if the shoe was on the other foot and I'm sure he'd want you to be honest now.
Whether you wanted to admit it or not you knew in the back of your head that Bakugou Katsuki could read you like a book and vice versa.
It was only natural with how much time the two of you spent together this summer.
This now decaying summer that you could smell in the air after the rain, the slight smell of decomposing leaves that is so faint you almost think it false until Mina made that damn comment this afternoon. Wrapped in her hot pink towel, yellow eyes glued on Kiri who wrestles with Katsu in the pool.
*"Its gonna be winter before we know it." *
And those words hadn't left you since.
Not even now under the heated gaze of your crush.
The one who kinda reminded you of summer itself.
Hot, explosive like a storm and almost unpredictable.
"I'm going Katsuki." You say darkly, most you faulter but he is not like most, "So you can either let me go alone or you come with me."
He scarlet eyes rover over you, unsure of what you're feeling in the low cast of the moonlight from outside but your tone tells him something is wrong whatever it is.
Something tells him you aren't going to the corner store either.
"Fine." He bites out, resisting the urge to push you against the door to tell you that you are not going, instead he pushes away, "Just let me grab my fucking phone."
He walks backwards to the living room sending you a glare before turning on his heel.
A glare in warning not to leave without him. So you don't.
He huffs as the two of you walk in silence, eyes watching the corner store fade behind the both of you.
"So where are we really headed?" He sighs in mock agony.
"You'll see!!" Your mood has improved some, at least since you pulled in a giant breathe of air when the two of you stepped outside.
The crickets still singing in the warm night, calling to you in their song.
Your eyes look to the sky to see the full moon, your whole body relishing the warmth of the night time air. Smile so wide on your face that it hurts.
A smile that Katsuki finds contagious as his lips turn upwards, eyes glued to you.
You hear a clock chime signaling the time and you gasp, grabbing onto Katsuki's rough hand, dragging him as you break into a full spring.
"We're gonna miss the train!" You yell to him which encourages him to keep pace.
Once the doors close behind you, you both grip your knees gasping for air.
The only other person on the late night train smiles, eyes twinkling with sudden memories of their own late nights.
"Where the fuck are we going?" Katsuki asks with little bite in his voice as you settle in front of the window.
"Its a secret!!!" You sing song as the train rushes by scenery that he watches you drink up as if this is the last time you'll see it.
It isn't until the train crosses the bridge does he realize you two are headed to the last stop.
Which come faster than he'd like, only now is he realizing he could watch you stare out at the stars all night, the train chimes overhead and you stand pulling him once more.
You find yourselves in a huge crowd and you smile pulling him further through the throngs of people. You stop when you see little stands set up every where filled to the brim even so late at night. You stop suddenly to ask a woman in a beautiful yukata that shimmers in pinks and golds like the setting sun.
"Excuse me what is this?" You ask politely, your curiosity earning a huge smile.
"Ah this is the End of the Summer Festival!" When she says the word end you squeeze Katsuki's hand tighter, "All things summer is here for you to enjoy!"
He watches your face almost become crest fallen.
"Why so late in the day," His tone comes out harsh and the woman glances between the two of you giving a small blush.
"Ah it's an all day event so everyone can enjoy it! Some people work so late they were missing it and others just couldnt say good bye to summer before sunset. Please enjoy the festival!"
You blink hard and try to take in your surroundings. You spy many little market stands filled with food, games and hell even an arcade.
Katsuki does not pull away from your soft grip on his hand, in fact his interlocks your fingers so you can pull him better. You don't look back when he does it and you don't look back as you pull him through the stands.
You start by buying you both Yakitori, followed by mouthwatering Ayu, some Takoyaki and all sumed up by sweet Taiyaki.
That is until you spot the famous colored cotton candy shaped like a fat unicorn horn.
Katsuki does not complain while he waits in line with you, your eyes finding your next adventure. He does not complain when you ask him to take a picture of you underneath the paper lanterns, that hit you in such a way that he cannot take his eyes off of you, or your smiling face as you stare at him.
You do not realize he sends the picture to himself as you slide your hand back into his offering him some of the sugary string to which he takes a large bite.
Letting the sugar dissolve agaisnt his tongue he wonders if your lips will be as sweet if not sweeter. He blushes but you do not notice as you drag him to a game.
"Step right up! Only 500 yen!" The man calls, "Break the record of seven watermelons with one punch and win the grand prize!"
Your eyes widen with glee as you see the oversized cat plush holding your favorite dessert, a taiyaki bun, in its obnoxiously cute black paws. The thing is so cute and sweet just looking at it makes Katsuki a little nauseous but when he sees the want glinting in your eyes he reluctantly releases your hand with out your asking to crack his neck.
"Alright line up as many as you've got." His eyes gleam with competative arrogance, forearm dancing with small explosions.
"Alright. If you can do 10 then I will throw in 10,000 yen." The elderly man says smugly lining up over 25 watermelons.
"Heh. Get ready to pay up gramps. Oh and of course I want that cat too."
"Sure thing kid. But you gotta get seven if you wanna win that for your pretty girlfriend over there." He laughs and Katsuki's cheeks burn with rage and blush.
He winds up and packs it with punch as he slams his fist into the first watermelon obliterating it and the shock from the blast causes the other 25 watermelons to explode as well. You squeal with delight.
"KATSUKI-KUN YOU WON!" Practically jumping with joy over his triumph confirming that he would do it all over again just to see you that happy.
Even if it took him braking 25,000 watermelons he would fucking do it for just a glimpse of the smile you've been hiding the past few days.
Katsuki smirks with manic malice as he jumps up to grab the oversized cat before holding out his hand.
The elderly man stands in uter shock as he stares down the red mess before him hesitant as he digs around for his little silver box of cash. He counts out the 10k yen sending you two on your way.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" You say as you squeeze the hell out of the cat, still jumping. Katsu sucks his teeth unable to keep the genuine smile off of his own face.
"It was nothing." He says as you slip your ever soft palm to his. His skin buzzes everytime yours touches his and he gladly let's you take the lead.
"Ah I'm thirsty after all that excitement." You beam, Bakugou spies a soda stand, fingering the easily got yen in his pocket.
"I'll get us a cherry soda, stay put." He says as he stands you off to the side since the line is hatefully long. He stares down at his phone at the picture of you he just took, smiling like a mad man as he waits.
You will always be worth the wait.
"This is your final warning." You growl darkly, causing Bakguou to look up with sharp eyes. He sees you placing the stuffed animal on the bench as this guy harasses you.
"Come on sugar tits." Katsuki practically blows up in line then and there as he stalks towards your back. He slips his right arm around your front pressing into your left hip bone pushing you into his body. He tilts his head as he left hand ignites inches from the guys face.
"Did you just fucking call *my* girl sugar tits?" His voice is so dark near your ear that you blush, letting your quirk fade from your palms.
And did he just say my girl?
Your gut clenches as he pulls you impossibly closer. Hand still letting off pops.
"I think you owe her a fucking apology before I make you sorry you ever thought you could disrespect a woman like that you stupid fuck."
"I..I'm sorry." The guy stammers with his now burnt off eyebrows as he bows deeply.
"Grab Neko-chan, Y/N." Katsuki purrs in your ear barely letting you go to do so. You hold onto the cat with all your might, heart banging against your rib cage as you overthink the encounter.
He was just doing it to be nice right?
You hesitantly reach for his hand before changing your mind. He glances at you with searing red eyes offering you his open palm.
"Where to next?" He asks, you stare at the invitation, frozen for a moment before you grab onto him with a strong hold.
"This way!" You smile taking him and Neko-chan in tow. You lead him to the small arcade challanging him to see who can win the most in street fighter.
He somehow kicks your ass by one match and you smile at this genuine excitement for victory. He catches you staring as you blush, nuzzling half of your face into Neko-chan's fur, making your eyes seem larger and doe like.
Katsuki swallows, more blush dusting his cheeks as he asks is a gruff tone.
"Whatchya starin at?" You giggle in response.
"Nothing!" You fight another giggle, arms tightening around black fur, "I just like your real smile is all."
He sucks his teeth and looks away not trusting himself to ignore the urge to shove that damn plush out of the way to see the smile you're hiding behind it, or to keep himself from kissing those lips that are curled up.
"I'll be right back." He leans in close to you with nothing separating you two but Neko-chan, "Try not to let anyone else hit on ya kay?"
"K...kay." He's pretty sure that's the first time you've stumbled over your words, positive that's the first time he's seen your cheeks so red.
On the way back from the bathroom he spies two little necklaces in the display case of prizes. One is a purple N64 console and the other is the matching controller. He likes the idea of them around your neck thanks to him and taps the counter with his freshly won 10,000 yen tapping at the set.
He produces the two small chains and watches as your eyes light up.
"Aaahhh!" You say separating the two as you slide the N64 console around your neck, holding out the controller to him. He frowns as he glares at it.
"You're supposed to wear both." He growls, though his grimace fades with every second you stare at him.
"No silly they are best friend necklaces!!!" You half sequal as you shove it over his neck. You tuck it beneath his black skull shirt, "See now it's our secret."
You smile a devilish smirk before you glance at the time on the analog clock behind him. You grab onto his hand with a death grip.
"Katsuki come on we are gonna miss it!" You whine as you drag him back into the busy street further and further through the festival until the people are so few and far between he wonders where you're taking him.
That is until his smells the tang of salted air brought in by what is normally a refreshing breeze that feels chilled from the changing seasons.
You rush him to the sand, breathing in the heavily summer scent, kicking off your shoes to feel the once warmed sand.
"Come on Katsuki-kun come on!" You urge as he fights with his own shoes willing to follow you to the ends of the Earth and it feels that way where you're taking him. Past a small bonfire to a secluded part of the beach where the moon hangs high over the ocean.
One can see all of the stars in the universe there in that little spot, his eyes look up drinking it all in before looking at an even more beautiful sight.
His heart skips a beat as your eyes dance in the starlight, cheeks now moon kissed and hair ruffled from the wind off the ocean, you close your eyes for just a moment to breath it all in.
The last bit of summer that you can smell before it all begins to disappear into sharper, more crisp smells.
He's close enough to you that he can smell the salt and sugar clinging to your skin, to your lips. He sighs, content for once in his life. Then the stars begin to fall in the deep reflection of your eyes.
"Katsu look!" You whisper shout and he follows your gaze to watch the sky fall.
"Make a wish make a wish!" You urge again and he silently prays that this moment will never end.
But sadly it does, as quickly as it came it went and your crest fallen face has his heart jumping into his throat. He attempts to swallow it down.
"Something wrong?" He asks so softly you wonder if it is still Bakugou sitting next to you and that one little question causes the tears to spill.
Yes something was wrong, terribly wrong.
"Oi..." He pulls you to him shielding your tears from the world as his hand subconsciously trailed up and down your spine, "Why are you crying? Are you not enjoying the last bit of summer?"
"That's it Katsu that's the problem. S..sum..." You choke on your tears before continuing, "Summer is ending and before you know it, it will be winter again. And then a new year and then summer will have flown by faster and faster until the next thing you know my whole life has slipped through my fingers. And I will be left feeling as if I missed all of it. Just like I am now, like I always do."
You fist his shirt as you cry, let it all out all the horrible thoughts of your life going by in the blink of an eye, as every new winter brings you more and more unhappiness and you are unsure why.
You only find solace in summer as things seem to slow down. When the days are stretched deep into the evening and each hour is blessed with such happy memories. Times of you with your N64, of you spending many hours outside baking in the heat of the sun, of miserable days when even the icecream is happy to melt. And especially this summer, *this* night that you've spent with Katsuki.
Memories you can never replace and pray
Hope and plead to any Kamisama who is listening that they will never allow you to forget.
"Hey it's all right." He soothes, "We can come back to this festival every year to help say good bye."
You hiccup, your tears slowing.
"And if that doesn't work I'll lasso the fucking sun for you. I'll be your summer incarnate. I'll do anything, *anything* to keep my girl smiling. To keep you smiling. All you have to do is fucking name it."
You blink away the tears as you stare up into his face and you can tell he's serious that he means it. Red fireworks erupt over head, lighting his eyes with an undying fire and you kiss him. Kiss him how you wanted to all summer. Slow burn that quickly ignites as your hands grab onto one another. Each fire work encouraging deeper and deeper kisses until you pull away. Almost gasping for breath. Your skin feeling heated as it does when you lie out in the sun too long. You hold his gaze, heart fluttering, eyes pricking with tears once more.
"Then lasso me the fucking sun, Katsuki."
