This is a redraw of a drawing I did about 2-3 years ago.
That is me hugging a YouTuber named SomecallmeJohnny. SomecallmeJohnny is a game reviewer, he's a huge fan of Sonic, Metroid and Final Fantasy. I watched him when I was 9. I loved watching him review games that I'm a fan of and games that I never heard of like Metroid and Resident Evil.
I wanted to become a YouTuber like him so at age 9, I made a YouTube channel where I played Sonic 3 and I did one game review video, Sonic Colors for the Wii. I wanted to do game reviewing videos, (even tho I made only one and I will probably never make a video where I review a game I like or hate) I later realized that they're hard to do and I wouldn't be good at reviewing games. He's the main reason why I do YouTube videos, still to this day and I still watch him. I have been watching him for 10 years.... thank you, SomecallmeJohnny 🥹🥹

Thoughts on the youtuber geekcritique? He did a lot of sonic retrospectivw trying to look from a more personal and positve perspective that isn't just the typical angry gamer stereotype and also has been a fan since the "classic" days so he has a wider perspective than many kids that do video essays
GeekCritique is an old half-acquaintance of mine. We spent an amount of time growing up in a community known (at first) as The Moogle Cavern, which later was renamed Sonic Eats Rings after the original admin backed away from the community.
I think Josh was just starting up The Geek Critique right as Sonic Eats Rings kind of started burning itself out and growing quiet as we all went our separate ways. I watched a video or two here or there, but never tons of it.
I've talked about that before, over the years. I did not, and to some degree do not watch a lot of other Sonic content on Youtube. A lot of it was reiterating a lot of information I already know (because I was there when it happened) and I'd already formed my own opinions on a lot of that stuff. I did not need somebody else to tell me how things were or what these games were like.
And I have been trying to shake that. Broaden my view. Get out of the echo chamber of my own head. I still don't follow tons of the so-called "SonicTubers", but I did at least subscribe to guys like SomeCallMeJohnny, and, notably, Geek Critique.
And with The Geek Critique in particular I feel like I've been sleeping on his videos too long because, like... yeah, they're really good. To the point where I'm not just watching every single thing he puts out, but I'm occasionally working my way through some of his older videos now, too.
What's interesting to me is that even if he's relentlessly positive about these things (to the point where I believe his pre-TGC username was "PositiveJosh"), it doesn't usually come off as... cloying? Sometimes when people are fighting to be positive about a negative subject, it can feel a bit ignorant or saccharine, and The Geek Critique is good at mostly avoiding that kind of maudlin feeling. I think it's because Josh isn't afraid to point out problems, but he always finds a way to put everything in perspective. Given a couple people have told me I'm cynical and negative, it's a trait I'm a little envious of.
But yeah, he's pretty good at this. If I could get my channel up to around his level of success, I'd be pretty pleased with myself.

What are your thoughts on SDMI?
Tumblr media
The Tornadon family went to work and decided to leave Jason home alone because it was a school night. Tambry, Jason's sister had to come along because they couldn't trust her because she invited her boyfriend to make love to her their backs and while he liked being alone, Jason wonders off at one point and meet the Mind Itch Quartet. Anyway, I thought it was a good choice to add more details of the characters in Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated and what their lives are like and I also like how they've added some continuity. However, I'm not very fond of the animation and honestly, who liked Velma's sudden crush on Shaggy and how she basically turned into character-derailed Courtney from the Total Drama series? Some episodes feel like a slap to the face too, like The Wild Brood where a bunch of badass bikers turned out to be a bunch of hideous nerds or the one before that where Scooby teams up with other mystery mascots but The Funky Phantom turned out to be the culprit which pissed a lot of people off. AND it turns out that whole thing turned to be a dream. The BrainScratchComms actually made this topic during their Super Mario Galaxy 2 playthrough when going through the green star half of the playthrough. Also, Joseph saying "blasphemy" is totally something Juan "Johnny" Ortiz would say
