It had been a while since you had become friends with Brooke and Peyton, which resulted in you being one of the most famous friendship trios at Tree Hill High School. Brooke being the most outgoing, of course, Brooke always got the guys, she was friends with almost everyone. Peyton was more reserved when it came to talking to people, she's introverted, likes rock music, you're Brooke, they're always at her house, whether it's to learn more about the music she buys, to paint her nails and gossip or to listen to Peyton vent about her how Nathan is being an asshole to her. You were definitely interested in Lucas, but as it turned out, so was Brooke so much so that she made her move to get naked in the backseat of Lucas' car, which made you slightly lose your hopes for him, if you had any. There was a party today, you were in Peyton's room changing in her bathroom, while Brooke and Peyton were talking about something. "But how about you? How are you doing? Y'know, now being the famous guy of tree hill" She asked back as she went back to drinking the drink from the glass.

"I can't say normal, but it's not going bad" He chuckled and looked at her "You look beautiful" he added, smiling smugly at her.

So, you started to stare at the night full of stars, as a way to escape from facing him, but he continued staring at you blatantly. Luca was used to rainfall and maybe twenty-four hours of snow, whereas Peyton was used to these kind of brutal winters. Being back in Chicago for months at a time has a much different impact on Peyton than it did Luca. Yet the two felt like they didn’t need to be apart any longer so they came to some sort of agreement.

Luca was in Chicago to see what it had to offer and decided maybe half of the year could be divided between there, Copenhagen, and London mostly would be for holidays. Copenhagen has always been Luca’s comfort zone, his true home, yet he had that itch to explore and he’s already had connects in Chicago…along with the funeral for Ever; it just made sense to circle back…for him.

He wouldn’t push Peyton if the city got too much for her, which means there were times when they were apart. Due to their work it consisted of travel, more so on Peyton’s part but she’s always loved to see different sides of the world. She was not the kind of woman that preferred one place over the other because then that would result in a feeling of being trapped. That’s unfortunately what Chicago gave her. Luca hated being away from his fiancée but he understood why so when Peyton was here, he always made the most of it. Which oddly entailed, him telling her that he would handle the snow outside by himself while she finished up editing photos that she shot and could attach to a well known blog in Chicago, Palette Feast, that she wrote a piece for.

They always knew how to keep busy and it’s almost as if they didn’t spend a good portion of their day at the soup kitchen together, yet here they were in their own spaces…still working.

She raises her arms above her head, sitting at the leather stool at the counter, stretching in her open cardigan after sending over her work to the websites publisher. Slamming her laptop shut, she scoots from the counter, taking her laptop with her as she moves around towards the living room and placed it onto the computer desk before peeking out the double doors across from the couch.

Knowing that view wouldn’t grant her with the sight of Luca, she braces herself before unlocking one of the doors to step out onto the balcony. She steadies herself against the light slush, hugging her cardigan against her as the winter air whipped against her skin. The woman doesn’t bother placing her hands on the snow covered railing—especially without gloves—and glanced over in search of Luca.

It never takes her long to find him.

He’s leaning against the handle of the big shovel, a hand pressed against his hip, almost as if he’s surveying his work. It makes the woman laugh a little before she calls out, “Hey Romeo, hurry up will you? I’ve got a surprise for you.”

Luca let’s go of Peyton as she makes her way over to the fireplace. She squats down, making Luca thankful that he did snag this place, a fireplace in the bedroom for the harsh winter nights was a blessing in disguise. Peyton moves to grab Luca’s hands and place them right on her slightly bare backside, “That should help some, no?”

A smirk splits over his lips while he tightens his grip, “A bit, yeah.”

“Nothing!” Luca calls back, struggling to roll onto his side as he watches Peyton’s hair disappear behind the wall.

Peyton returns with some cream, stare was heated enough as she peered down at him, knees brushing against the side of the bed, “Looks like this is starting to become part of our routine huh?”

“Of you telling me, ‘I told you so,’?” Luca guessed as Peyton carefully gets onto the bed and steps over him.

She yanks up his sweater, seeing the beads of sweat on his spine as well. It was safe to say that he was warmed up now, “No. Taking care of each other.”

“Oh, right. Of course.” Luca sighed, leaning on his elbow.

Peyton makes a guess of her own, “Lower back.”

“Mhm.”

Her fingers go into the jar, the menthol and ginger scent was strong but it would do the trick. It was actually an old remedy from Peyton’s paternal grandmother who still made these jars full of peppermint, spearmint, and ginger. The woman has bad arthritis and decided making her own medicine was better than being forced to take pills. She was never a fan of doctors and when she found out about Peyton’s stormy battle with mental health, the spunky woman was ready to raise hell.

She was never a fan of Peyton’s mother.

“Here I was being a ho ho ho and my man needed medical attention.” Peyton says making Luca snort.

Once enough coated his back, Luca took his time turning to face Peyton who sat on her knees, his hand gently rubbing at the top of her knee, “It’s not your fault babe…and you didn’t see me exactly backing down. I completely consented to you having power over me.”

“You dog!”

“Correction: your favorite.”

Peyton adds, “You’d definitely be a wolfhound.”

Luca frowns, “Not a reindeer?”

“I don’t believe that’s in the same category—

Luca already has his hand on the back of Peyton’s neck, pulling her face to his lips, “Uh huh.”

He’s kissing her in a way that makes her toes curl underneath her ass. She manages to pull away and says in a warning tone, “Luca Hodgson…”

“Think you can spell it on my tongue?”

Peyton gasps, “I think we found the new ho.”

“Only Mrs. Claus’.”

“You’re on a roll!”

“…well we didn’t get to finish.”

“With good reason.”

Luca sighs with a caress of his facial hair, “You on my face has nothing to do with my back.”

Peyton thinks about it but again it’s taking much too long for Luca’s liking. He turns onto his back carefully, his hand moving to hold onto Peyton’s wrist, slightly tugging her. They haven’t tried this with his new facial hair and it’s not a position they did often but this season was supposed to be full of love anyway.

And as Peyton got comfy in her new seat, she had no problem professing her love as she rode out her high all while guiding Luca’s rolling pin in all directions equivalent to a compass.

She’s laying beside him, they’re both fighting to catch their breaths. Luca’s got a shit eating grin on his face as he lolls his head to meet Peyton’s who’s staring up at the ceiling in bliss.

“Is it fair for me to say I told you so.” Luca quizzes, shuffling to place a kiss on her bare shoulder, thanks to the cardigan slipping from its space.

Peyton scoffs, “Whatever, I make you see stars and now you suddenly think you’re Superman.”

Luca rests his head against his wife to be’s shoulder, “actually it’s because I’ve got the number one thing on my wishlist.”

“Hold on, Christmas isn’t here yet, bud.”

“Might as well be.” Luca whispers, “I’m just glad that I’ve still got you.”

“Awww you sap!” Peyton cooes, moving her own head to press a kiss against his brow. Luca lifts his chin so their lips could reconnect, his tastes even better for obvious reasons.

“I mean it.” Luca’s stare turns intense and he doesn’t have to say more, although Peyton knows he could, but the man lets his eyes do the talking this time.

Peyton nods after a while of staring longingly into each other’s eyes. She intertwines her hand with his right, as he brings their hands to press a kiss to. “I love you, Luca Hodgson.”

“And I love you immensely, Peyton Hodgson.”

The way in Luca’s mind Peyton was already his wife, which is why he referred to her as such, always made her heart swell with a warmth of its own. She pressed her temple against Luca’s ready to catch an evening nap as the fireplace crackles on, providing further warmth and safety in the home.

As they lay side by side, the couple continued receiving checks off their wishlists, as long as they continued to be in each other’s space.

I may have already made a post about this but I don't think I have so I thought I'd take the chance. I have these rants or thoughts in my head and sometimes I just have to get them down in writing or I'll be playing it in my head all day lol

I feel like the One Tree Hill writers room went to work and the first thing they said was "This show is not going to be Dawson's Creek and we are going to make that clear at every turn."

The first thing I think about is the Lucas and Haley friendship. They even went out of there way to separate Lucas/Haley from Dawson/Joey by making Haley make disparaging jokes about Dawson and Joey in the Pilot. I really respect the decision to make Lucas and Haley only friends and they never wavered from that. There was never even a second when they hinted that their relationship could be more than friends.

In some ways Nathan and Haley are equivalent from Pacey and Joey in One Tree Hill and they made the decision of getting Nathan and Haley together and then never really breaking them up. Unlike the Pacey and Joey model where there was the stupid love triangle with Dawson and they broke them up and got them together and broke them up again. Pacey and Joey really deserved better writers. Pacey and Joey have some of the best chemistry in TV and the writers did not know how to utilize that treasure.

The female friendships are absolutely atrocious in Dawson's Creek. I mean is there really a female friendship? I mean I guess Jen and Joey but even that was littered with tension most of the time and even after they buried the hatchet Joey would put men above Jen all the time. Like when she started dating the guy who cheated on Jen and then when Jen tried to help her she was really mean to Jen. I blame the writers for that. That is atrocious! Write better female friendships you cowards. In One Tree Hill, the friendships certainly have their ups and downs but you have Haley and Brooke, Brooke and Peyton, Haley and Peyton, Deb and Karen. Every woman on the show has at least one really great female friendship.

The fact that OTH never killed off any of the original teenage characters as in Nathan, Haley, Brooke, Lucas, Peyton, Skills, Mouth. Dawson's Creek just had to be assholes and kill off Jen in the last episode. But I really think giving all of them happy endings was really a concerted effort to be different from Dawson's Creek. And the reason I believe that is that they even brought on James Van Der Beek in a small role where he played a director... kind of a wink to his character in DC and he's talking to Lucas about his book that's going to be turned into a movie. It's something that's so similar to DC. Both Dawson and Lucas wrote books, movies, or TV shows about their lives. James' character has this to say "All right, clear your head, all right? What if Haley... Dies? I'm saying think about it. People love that stuff." You can tell that sometimes the writers are poking fun at some of the Dawson's Creek writing choices and I fully support it lol

The writers on One Tree Hill weren't always great and there was certainly one completely rotten apple in that bunch... cough M*** S****** cough but it really seemed like they went into writing the show with the intentions that it was gonna be better than Dawson's Creek in every way. Now if only there could have been a Dawson's Creek/One Tree Hill crossover and we could have seen Pacey and Joey show up in OTH then it would have been perfect lol

I literally don't, but thank you for saying that 💙💙 First things first, I did ship Lucas and Peyton in the past. So on some level, I understand the appeal because I also fell for them when I started watching One Tree Hill. Truth be told, one day I just snapped out of it. Before season 6 even premiered, I was watching my season 5 DVD and finding myself frustrated with the LP story line while appreciating the dynamic between Brucas. Anyways, since then I've watched every episode multiple times and analyzed both by myself and sometimes with others why exactly I don't root for Leyton and prefer Brucas. To me, they're representative of a lot of tropes that will never be my favorite. Meant to be from the pilot couples are always going to be a hard sell. The chemistry had better be something special and the ongoing story needs to be more than, "I immediately know you better than everyone else in your life after having a handful of conversations." There are always exceptions to this rule. Sometimes I fall for the ship fast (Stelena, sorry). Other times it takes until nearly the entire first season or until the second (Ephram/Amy from Everwood, Max/Liz from OG Roswell, Spelivia) for me to get past the beginning and appreciate what the couple is at the heart of it. Needless to say, this sums up Leyton (derogatory). So much of their connection is told to the audience rather than shown. From day one, it's automatically clear that this is the couple to root for. Their only real obstacle, Nathan, is a comically terrible, borderline abusive boyfriend, so the fact Lucas in early season 1 is the anti Nathan pushes him incredibly hard as Peyton's ideal match. Once Brucas starts up, there's an immediate difference in energy and chemistry. Both Lucas and Peyton take themselves so seriously. It's always deep feelings and angst and brooding and "oh, we want to be together, but the circumstances are just too hard." And meanwhile, it's only like episode 9. Brooke has deep feelings and her own insecurities, but on the outside she doesn't take life super seriously and is someone who acts rather than internalizing everything. Brooke's influence on Lucas's life feels like a breath of fresh air. Lucas begins to loosen up and see that there can be more to life than his preconceived ideas of how the world works and how everyone should be acting. On Lucas's end, he encourages Brooke to develop her intellectual side and see that she has so much more to offer than being the life of the party and someone who gets validation from sleeping with a lot of guys. Lucas is the first person Brooke wants to get serious with. Even better, this is a story line we actually get to see play out. When Lucas and Brooke talk about what they like about each other, it all tracks because we've been watching their attraction bloom and seeing how in a lot of ways, they're at their best together. Sorry, this is getting long. This is all solely based on season 1. By the end of the season, Lucas and Peyton cheat for the first time. This sadly becomes a pattern for them. Brooke is emotionally devastated. And though Lucas immediately seems to feel guilt over hurting Brooke, it takes him time to see how far he's strayed from the type of person he wants to be.

Season 2 is a massive gamechanger for Brucas. This is the first time they're truly able to be friends. Without the expectation of a relationship, Brooke and Lucas are able to connect on a deeper level. Yet again, this is something shown to us rather than told. This is the kind of relationship both took the time to develop. Much like in season 1, Lucas encourages Brooke to invest in her more intellectual, soulful side. Lucas himself works on being more selfless, taking the time to improve as a person. Unlike when Lucas pined for Peyton while she was dating Nathan and embarked on an affair during his first relationship with Brooke, this time Lucas allows Brooke's relationship with Felix to play out without any interference while still being a friend. Lucas is aware of his own feelings, but he also knows how badly he hurt Brooke in the past and has no reason to think a second chance is even a possibility. When Lucas kisses Brooke after months of close friendship and opening up to each other emotionally (albeit with Brooke understandably on guard post cheating and Lucas hiding his rediscovered feelings), it feels earned. The third season is a mixed bag. At its best, season 3 Brucas is a perfect mix of seasons 1 and 2 Brucas. Both seem to be equally emotionally invested in the relationship working out and view each other as basically their endgame. But the fun and the lightheartedness exist, as well. Brooke is still someone who brings light and fun to Lucas's life. On Lucas's end, it starts to get murky as the show gets closer and closer to the shooting episode. After spending so much time veering away from the possibility of Lucas and Peyton together with emphasis on Lucas's love for Brooke, the strength of the Brooke/Peyton friendship and even how Lucas and Peyton are actually able to be platonic, healthy friends themselves, everything gets destroyed so that the show can return to Leyton. On the one hand, it's not as though it's totally out of nowhere or implausible because again, the narrative went so hard in Leyton's favor during the first season. But at the same time, it doesn't feel believable to me when it finally happens. Lucas seems to flip flop from getting past his breakup with Brooke to declaring Peyton is the one he wants next to him when his dreams come true in mere seconds. The writers LOVE to make Lucas in denial about his feelings for Peyton. Past the first season, we don't get Lucas pining for Peyton. We just don't. We got Lucas pining for Brooke during season 2 and part of 3 and even Lucas wanting Lindsey back after she leaves him at the altar, but for the lion's share of LP's history, it's Peyton desperately wanting Lucas and somewhat being willing to sacrifice everything just for the chance of being with him. So because of this, Lucas becomes an almost passive love interest where he's told over and over again what he should want and what his true feelings are until he just kind of.. says fine, choosing Peyton. That alone is why I prefer Brucas. It's the more compelling story line and relationship. Plus, the chemistry.

And I hate to do it, but this vs this:

Chemistry is unpredictable, always up for debate, and shouldn't always be the deciding factor in what a person ships. My shipping preferences have been all over the place in this area. But when the writing is lacking and the chemistry isn't really selling the story either, these moments that are supposed to be powerful and come across as passionate somehow come across as phony and put on. In my opinion, Chad and Hilarie had buddy chemistry while Chad and Sophia had the passionate, in love type of chemistry due in large part to literally being in love and married in real life.

As a viewer, I really resent being told that Lucas was simply denying his true feelings for no other reason I can think of except maliciousness when he spent basically two and a half seasons wanting Brooke over Peyton. The romantic relationship with Lucas and Peyton during seasons 4 and 6 seems like the healthier option on the surface, but it comes back to how I feel about Lucas as a passive love interest and Peyton's arc being so wrapped up in whether or not she gets the guy. This is pretty much spelled out towards the end of season 3. During a conversation between Brooke and Peyton, Brooke confides in Peyton that during Lucas's absence she realized that she wasn't as reliant on his physical presence as she thought she'd be. From Brooke's perspective, all this means is that Brooke is somehow capable of loving and being happy independently of the man she loves. But on One Tree Hill, this is supposed to imply Brooke either doesn't truly love Lucas, is falling out of love with Lucas, or that Peyton loves Lucas more because she doesn't desire independence outside of him. It's a gross message to say the least. This brings me full circle, back to season 5. Between seasons, Lucas proposed to Peyton and broke off the relationship when she didn't accept his proposal. Objectively speaking, not the worst thing in the world and a valid thing to do if this is a deal breaker. But this causes the Lucas/Peyton relationship to be heavily imbalanced and in Lucas's favor over Peyton's. Lucas stops feeling like the kind of person who follows his heart and more this desperate guy who wants to marry someone to the point the bride doesn't actually matter. If I go along with the idea that Lucas was in love with Peyton throughout the intervening years, throughout season 5 and for the entirety of his romance with Lindsey, what does that say about Lucas? One, he's the kind of guy who is so out of touch with his own emotions that nothing he says should ever be trusted. Or two, he's an asshole and will willingly commit himself to another woman under false pretenses just because he didn't get what he wanted from his first choice on his terms. Peyton's love for Lucas is meant to be undying and unconditional, causing her to behave in such selfish, desperate ways. Lucas, on the other hand, proves that his affection for Peyton is very conditional. He's not willing to compromise. He doesn't want to wait around for Peyton to catch up with where he is.

And in the mean time, Lucas bouncing between Peyton and Lindsey actually means season 5 Brucas is a very good alternative for Lucas. It's all very unspoken, but the chemistry and the connection between Lucas and Brooke never goes away. Much like in season 2, the possibility of romance is very much off the table. Brooke returns to Tree Hill not to win Lucas back, but because she misses her hometown and sees herself settling down there. Because nothing is being pushed on either end, it's much easier for adult Lucas and adult Brooke to be friends in a way that's impossible for Lucas and Peyton. They're able to relate to each other outside of high school and their past romance. A flashback reveals that Lucas was the first person Brooke told that she wanted to have a baby. During the time Brooke is taking care of Angie, Lucas becomes the kind of person Brooke can depend on and lean on for emotional support. Even outside of season 5, there's a consistent theme of Lucas being the best, most selfless version of himself with Brooke. It's as though Brooke's influence in Lucas's life mixed with their season 1 history almost demands that Lucas be better when they're together. Both Brooke and Lucas are in the place where they're looking to settle down. In a moment that's kind of a contrast to season 3

Unlike in season 3 when Lucas was trying to fight for Brooke but kind of clueless when it came to working out what she wanted from him, this time Lucas realizes that no matter how strong Brooke seems to be, she needs him to show up for her. There will always be endless potential for season 5+ Brucas, in my opinion. Their strong bond and complementary desires for a future shine through even as the narrative reminds us over and over again that Peyton is the one who loves Lucas most and that anything that isn't about Peyton is merely "denial" or Lucas "hiding his heart." Anyways, Lucas literally fantasizes about marrying all of his major love interests, Brooke included. The dream sequence wants us to believe Brooke and Lucas want very different things, making them fundamentally incompatible. The entirety of seasons 5-9 disagrees with this, but Lucas still ends up with Peyton.

When it comes down to it, I don't like the people Lucas and Peyton are around each other. As friends, it's mostly okay. They certainly share common interests and Peyton lacks the trust issues Lucas's other girlfriends have considering she's always the other woman. But.. so much of their love story comes across as incredibly forced with so many holes in it. Their arc throughout the first six seasons does NOT hold water. Peyton isn't allowed to be a fully fleshed out person with goals that don't perfectly align with becoming Mrs. Lucas Scott. Lucas holds all the cards, resulting in him becoming far more selfish and almost childish in the way he acts like season 1 Lucas who is still butthurt his crush didn't want to commit to him after one make out session. Even in the final season, I don't see much if any growth. It's the final season for both characters and the show played out the beats of broken up Leyton, so they're put back together. So much of what happens between Lucas and Peyton is heavily reliant on the idea of everything coming full circle without any regard for how one or both have changed since then. Brucas doesn't have this problem. If nothing else, Brooke and Lucas's relationship goes through multiple changes, with each phase feeling much more mature and deeper than the one before. Even though their past and Brooke's trust issues are recurring problems, their actual dynamic always remains in the present.

As for your last question, I'll never know for sure what discussions were like behind the scenes circa seasons 2 and 3. But based on how season 2 played out, I think there's a very good chance the endgame shifted. The underlying tension and romantic affection between Lucas and Peyton was completely gone. Lucas realized he wanted to be with Brooke and never seemed to consider Peyton. Even Peyton, who has ambiguous moments that refer to possible feelings for Lucas even before the shooting, doesn't have this during the second season. She spends far more time pining for and loving Jake. When Peyton expresses displeasure over her relationship with Lucas, it's that he hasn't been the kind of friend that shows up for her emotionally. Lucas's response to this is to bring Jake back to town LOL. In terms of season 3, it gets confusing. Chad and Sophia didn't separate until multiple episodes into the first half of season 3. Meaning, the groundwork was already being laid for Brucas's failed friends with benefits/casual relationship to become a deeper romantic one even before Chad and Sophia split up. But at the same time, Lucas's friendship with Peyton was also being prioritized again with more references to their romantic past coming up outside of Brooke's insecurities. So with that in mind, it seems like LP was a possibility even as Brucas was rebuilding their relationship. However, I think the Chad/Sophia split permanently closed the door on any legitimate Brucas once their season 3 arc was completed. Personally, I don't think Peyton ending up with Lucas was set in stone until the end of season 3. Had Chad and Sophia never split up, I definitely think we would have seen another round of Brucas at some point because the chemistry alone would have demanded it. Plus, the gross producers capitalizing on the real life Chad/Sophia romance. In a universe where Chad and Sophia never broke up, my gut says Lucas ends up with Brooke. But nothing is 100%. To sum up my thoughts, I think there was a plan in place during season 1. I think another plan emerged during season 2. In season 3, the endgame was literally up for grabs. But Chad and Sophia's breakup sealed the deal.

Globbing on to your Damon analysis and mention of how men can’t form a bond without fighting over a woman, I always find it off-putting when it’s the brother love triangle trope. I love familial relationships and struggle with rooting for either couple due the strain in the sibling dynamic, same goes for two sisters fighting over a guy. It’s just icky to me. I think Supernatural does a really good job of depicting a well-written sibling relationship, especially between two guys. Although Dean and Sam have their issues, you can clearly tell that they love one another and would do anything to protect the other—regardless of who gets hurt. Especially the parentification of Dean and how he views Sam perpetually as a child is awful but so interesting to see. Their codependency and Defan’s codependency are very different forms but also entirely similar. Should’ve had a cross-over😮‍💨

I loathe that the 2 brothers/neighbor girl love triangle has grown over the years. It's just ridiculous that siblings would risk their relationship, over someone who's not even that important. And I say that as someone that not only loves Elena, but ships Stelena. I just think that they could exist or even if the writers wanted it to be Delena, they could exist, without coming between the boys.

It's why I'm glad the Nathan/Peyton/Lucas love triangle in One Tree Hill was so short-lived. Lucas and Nathan had their drama, but it was never a girl that kept them apart. They had one of the healthiest brother dynamics I've seen on TV.

Dean and Sam are truly one of the best sibling relationships in all of media history. It's not always the healthiest. They are both pretty possessive over one another. Dean treats Sam like a 5 year old 90% of the time. But the love is there. They'd do anything for each other. And a lot of it can be explained by how they were raised. Dean falls into "dad/mom mode" (I think there can actually be an argument that Dean is more of a mom than a dad, but that's a whole other thing) and Sam falls into "baby that needs his parent mode". Given all they've been through, of course they can't be separated for very long.

The Salvatore brothers are equally codependent, in different ways. Damon spends a good century vowing to cause Stefan nothing but eternal misery. He easily could've hurt/killed him after it all happened and move on. But he didn't. We see there are several times they attempt to rebuild that bond but something goes wrong. They love each other and can't quit one another, no matter what happens in life. Because they're brothers. The only family each other has.

Dean is a far better brother than early seasons Damon, but I think he'd be proud of the brother that Damon becomes. Especially when Lily is back in the picture. I think they'd bond over moms coming back from the dead and not being how they once were.

darkness scattered through the dim view of the dingy solo level apartment window. the blistering pelt of rain ricocheted off the glass in tandem. the cacophony echoing in rhythm with each thunderous roar of his heart pounding against his chest. nathan scott was in love. more than in love. each fiber of his body was made up solely of haley james. each waking thought, sleepy daydream, and consuming conversation had some inkling of her in it. yet how could he admit that he was falling for his once well acquainted tutor who fell under false pretenses? his plan of a takedown to his half brother didn’t necessarily go without a hitch. it had it’s hiccups, of course. payback for all he had worked for — or should he say, his father worked for, as he so liked to recall — that was soon foretold to be taken away. his plans of being tree hill high’s shining basketball star with all others faltering to the dust. the relationship with said brother was knowingly nonexistent in the small town gossip train grapevine. middle aged mothers flocked at the chance of assessing old, matured wounds with their sharp, twisted words. all his life, nathan had been told of the tow headed subject that paralleled his world in every single way. the only difference is dan scott was a driving force in his life, where as lucas had the shockingly fair life from the younger sibling’s point of view. it was anything but a cake walk navigating the self centered point in the solar system known as his dad. and if there wasn’t compliance, there were consequences. it was all details that were collected into the wider picture. the praise and satisfaction that lacked in the scott family.

and yet, here he was. breath to breath with the honey haired beauty whom he had entrusted with his heart. it hadn’t always been this way. prior to meeting the five-foot-four-inched best friend of his half brother, nathan was anything if not a self proclaimed jerk. his exterior had hardened as his father before him, unabashed to do much other than take the easy road. a jock to his core, he carried himself with the fragile ego that most were painted with when looking to anyone labeled an athlete. and with a sport to spill into his cup, it left next to nothing for his academics. a loophole, or so it would seem. it was nearly a match made in heaven that lucas’ best friend was one of the smartest individuals in their grade. as he sauntered into the tutoring center, feigned bewilderment followed in the crease of his eyebrow as he called out, “hey, you must be haley,”

and that, was the beginning of the rollercoaster his emotions had taken him to now. she had been his aid in mathematics, english, history; and when it came down to it, love. many months in the past half year he recollected the dawns memories of entangling with the bleach blonde curls, cherry chapstick, curved jaw of one peyton sawyer. if there was an award for the boyfriend of the year, he would have won in spades. on opposite day. two years of a catastrophic relationship that ended just how is started. a failure. the knowledge of his battered ways has weighed heavy on his heart as of late. how in the hell did she put up with his pungent ways for so long? nathan wasn’t sure. what he was sure of, in the very least, was how he felt for haley. confessing the love to her that was paired with kisses shared in the rain. the cool edge of the raindrops simmered the flames that were ignited in the depths of his chest. i want to be somebody worthy of being with you, he said. not a single syllable of a fib uttered. somehow, within the matter of minutes they had migrated from outside to the four walls of his apartment. which led to the present. eager hues drank in his opposite like a tall glass of water, within the boundary that was set of no return. nathan scott wasn’t a virgin. that was a known fact. it seemed every student at tree hill high school had knowledge of such. and with that knowledge was also that of not pursuing haley in a manner she didn’t consent to doing. the tanned teen was crafting certain perspective that entailed obeying the wishes of his tutor. no pressure, no impulse.

there he laid, hovering in delicate fashion over the silhouette of his girlfriend’s stature. the harsh light of the pitch black sky was scarcely lit with the thrum of lighting that crackled in the sky every so often. but he didn’t need the gift of sight to know how stunningly, breathtakingly beautiful haley was. drips of residual raindrops trickled off the fringe of his hair, popping into the pleats of the covers on his bed. they were wet from the rain, soaking even. and still, the teen couldn’t find a single flaw found in her. the best of brokenness between kisses led him to gaze with euphoric stamina, each breath he inhaled as dark eyes fluttered open to meet what he knew to be her own pair. rotund fingertips spread along the flush of her cheek to the bend of her ear, tucking wet strands of hair behind. his nose brushed carefully along the tip of her own, the lightest of touch before the words that flooded through his conscientious shattered into the atmosphere like a bang of a gong. “i could love you forever, haley james…” it began, forehead to her own now, the warmth of each breath she drew hitting his cheek in an intoxicating force. so this was love. where every morsel of mind body and soul swirling together like the bleat of rain now ignored in the background. where everything felt right despite the outside world had no influence of what was had in the right now.

Heres something I've written based of the Zombie AU

The last helicopter left the city at exactly 12:49 AM on the 10th of September. I don't know why she decided to stay. I asked her, I BEGGED her to go. Yet she stayed. Once she puts her foot down, she doesn't back down. She would remain with me even if it meant saying goodbye to her family. 

First class tickets out of the city and into the safety of the military seemed like the best I could do for them. I figured they’d be safer outside than in the bunker right in the center of the city. That decision keeps me up at night. I wish I could tell myself that she doesnt know, but Jennifer is a lot smarter and observant than I ever gave her credit for. My only hope is the potential that they could’ve escaped and somehow made something for themselves out there. That's the only thing keeping their status as missing, and not deceased.

Jennifer’s ability to inspire people in desperate times shouldnt surprise me. People loved her, and they looked up to her for guidance and advice. When we started sending scavengers out, she shined as a leader. Amongst ex-soldiers, mercinaries, and former emergency services members, she won the pick for Chief of Security by a landslide. I know she is more than capable of handling herself, but I worry about her constantly. I guess I know what it was like to be in her shoes in the times before. Her status is alive. Should that change, I don't know if I'll be capable of documenting it.

Lucas’ fall into delusion was some of the hardest hitting of when we were still secluded from the outside. He had convinced himself that I had been too lenient, and that executing certain individuals who posed a threat would be beneficial to our isolated community. The fact that me killing him caused such a stir sent that theory to the grave along with him. Lucas’ status is deceased. It was the first life I had taken since the outbreak. I’ve killed many more people since, but it doesn't progress the community further. It just means less people that disagree with us and more blood on my hands.

Frances has been a great asset to the community as her pinpoint accuracy has saved many lives. The people and I owe her a great debt, but she shrugs it off as nothing. All she asks for in return is more ammunition. Oftentimes she acts as a scout in the city. Going in alone into the concrete jungle and bringing back important intel. In fact, she was the first one to encounter the Marshals. Current status is alive. One day I’ll find a way to repay her. Maybe I’ll look for her hat she lost a long time ago.

Some of our outer city manufacturers managed to find their way back. Whittaker kept his metalworkers alive long enough to make it to us from the radio signal we had sent out to our facilities. Not everyone made it back to us though. Cindy is currently missing at this time, but truth be told I don't think she couldn't have made it out there on her own.

 As for Hawthorne? Its hard to say for certain but… 

For a long time I was greatly concerned about Peyton or her gang managing to survive the outbreak, and launching an attack on us. As time passed the concern lessened, but I was always afraid that she would come to our gates and proceed to make this new life of mine a special kind of hell. That day never came, and Frances had become curious. Their compound was on the other side of the city, but that didn't seem to dissuade her. Frances’ report goes as follows:

“The place was abandoned, seemed like nobody had inhabited the place since the outbreak. Some kind of massacre took place. A bunch of skeletons were strewn about still wearing those stupid colored clothes Pb’s freaks liked to wear. I skulked around until I found her. A skeleton with its head detached lying in some command room. That faded purple jacket was unmistakable. No sign of Cat mask or that twitchy little shovel creep neither. Well, besides all the headless skeletons anyway.”

Pb, Peyton Beck, is deceased. I can sleep a little easier knowing that. Especially since I had nothing to do with it. Though, that still leaves Nelly and that big guy Jules uncertain. What are the odds they’re still out there? I don't like that uncertainty, but maybe without Peyton messing with their heads they can actually be reasoned with. Whatever the case may be…

Brooke Penelope Davis - The light of my life, my first true love, the woman I have aspired to be my entire life, she is my joker. Her entire storyline from the whole peyton/Lucas/Brooke triangle I was always and forever on her side, she was a class act, she always knew her worth and in being happy for her best friend and ex boyfriend she remains the classiest and most humble woman in TV history and no one deserves the happy ending she got with Julian and the twins, more than she does, and she invented girl bossing, she was a millionaire business owner before she was even 25 and she did it all herself. Female excellence.

Haley James Scott - the first mother to ever mother, she can honestly do no wrong in my eyes, tutor girl should’ve ruled the world (the only reason she’s not number 1 is because of the disaster that was season 2/Chris Keller debacle but we don’t like to talk about that) but yes Haley James Scott the woman that you are 🧎‍♀️

Quentin Fields - to this day I have never gotten over him, he had such a short time on the show and he made the biggest impact, his relationship with Jamie and the way things ended omg I’m tearing up even writing this but I miss him sm his character was one of the greats 

Mouth McFadden - he is my sweetheart, i would burn the entire world for him, he is just the most wholesome character I’ve ever known and he just means everything to me

Skills - he was a ride or die kind of person and there isn’t a single scene he didn’t own, I love his character 

(Special mention to Chris Keller cause his character in the later seasons was just 👏🏼👏🏼 he was hilarious and I miss him) 

Favourite plot lines

Okay so I love the intense story lines sm and I enjoy the angst more than what is considered healthy so: 

Dan and Keith - I’m such a sucker for siblings and this storyline, I still think it’s one of the greatest and devastating moments in TV History, the relationships with Karen and Lucas and the way Dan changed after season 9 and how he repented about what he’d done, and Keith 😭 I have never cried as hard as I did that day (you know what day I’m talking about anon babe you know.) The intensity and angst of this storyline and the way it ended, yeah it’s always going to be my favourite

Nannie Carrie - omg 9 year old me was terrified of this woman, the whole kidnapping plot, the chase scene, Haley kicking her ass every time it was immaculate - 

Clay and Logan - I never saw it coming is the thing, I always just thought the relationship was so adorable at the start and then what it was revealed who he actually was 😧 it was a moment, and the relationship between Logan, Clay and Quinn afterwards 😭😭 it was so sweet I could die honestly.

Dan’s entire redemption ark - I have never hated and loved a character the way I did with him. The first half of the show I would’ve happily shot him myself but by the end ? No one has since done a redemption the way Dan Scott did. I loved him at the end and 9 year old me would’ve been appalled at how much I cried at his ending. 

Nathan’s kidnapping - this storyline. Omg this storyline, I went through every emotion going, the Naley feels, the genuine fear I had over my TV husband being in danger, the way it set up the Dan Scott Redemption, that scene where Haley has to go identify a body and then the scene where they reunite in the hospital, 🤚I sobbed, I still sob, I can’t listen to the Florence and the machine without getting emotional to this day. 

Honestly Anon my sweets I very rarely find other OTH enthusiasts so this was a great moment and I could babble about this show forever, seriously this was like the top of the iceberg, it will always be my favourite, forehead kissing you rn because I just had a lot of fun writing that all out and now I need to go re watch it all !

THE BACKSTORY: 

Sawyer Scott is the oldest child of Lucas and Peyton. Her parents left Tree Hill shortly after she was born, but ultimately returned to Tree Hill just before Sawyer’s second birthday. Sawyer showed an interest in writing at an early age. She was always coming up with stories to tell her friends and family. Her grades were good - they weren’t perfect, but they were good, and she was fine with that. Cheering wasn’t really her style, even though her friends were on the squad; it just wasn’t something she wanted to do.

After high school, Sawyer wasn’t really sure what she wanted to do. She went on to Tree Hill University because she knew that she wanted a college degree, but she couldn’t narrow her options down. Ultimately, she decided to go for a business degree. She really wanted to open up her own publishing company in Tree Hill. After hearing the stories about how many times her father’s books had been rejected, she wondered how many other great stories were out there getting rejected by big publishing companies who were just looking to sell. She hoped that one day she could be a voice for those people.

RELATIONSHIPS: 

Logan Evans:  Sawyer has had a crush on Logan for as long as she can remember. She knows that their age difference has always been the reason why nothing has happened between them, but she can't shake her feelings. 

Allan Scott: There isn't much that Sawyer wouldn't do for her baby brother.

I just thought of something and my mind is blown.

My perspective on early S1 Nathan Scott has changed so much. I give him such a pass for all the hazing he did against Lucas. I give NO passes for his behavior towards Peyton. There was no excuse for that and Peyton did NOT deserve that. Like when he would call her a bitch or when he crashed her car and walked away from it. I always cheer when Peyton breaks up with him cause she deserves better. Some of Nathan's behavior was definitely inexcusable.

That being said, I do view the hazing and rudeness towards Lucas way differently. I view Nathan as having been in some sort of prison with Dan. Dan is really pushing Nathan... being like "don't you care that your dreams are falling away," "Lucas is your enemy." He just has Dan's voice literally echoing in his head like a cacophony. The editors made a interesting choice in episode 2 or 3. Nathan is about to leave for a game and Dan is badgering him per the usual and they made Dan's voice echoey. Dan's voice just sounds like this loud echo in Nathan's head. I literally don't think that Nathan hears his father say anything but "you need to do better," "you'll never be as good as I was," "Lucas is taking everything from you." He walks into any room and his father jumps down his throat and badgers him. I do have a lot of empathy for Nathan during this time. Sure he's an asshole but I think it's so clear even at this time that Nathan could have been so totally different if he had a solid dude like Keith as a father. Everyone in his life avoids Dan like the plague and by extension has isolated Nathan from any good influences.

What dawned on me today is... Probably part of the reason he's being so mean to Lucas is that he thinks that if he gets rid of Lucas then maybe his father won't fucking badger him so much. Maybe that will silence Dan a little bit and he will leave him alone. This thought makes me really sad. It probably feels like he can't free himself from the echoing voices of his father and he doesn't have anyone to help him or protect him from dad. His mom is gone most of the time. Keith is too busy being a dad to Lucas to pay any attention to Nathan. He really has no one who cares about his mental health.

You start to see Nathan defend himself and be more empowered when Deb comes back and starts shielding him from Dan. And also when he starts hanging out with Haley. It's like he finds his true north/his soulmate with Haley and everything clicks into place. Just having good people surrounding him really saved Nathan's life.

And I'm NOT saying that he should have been mean to Lucas but I just see why he was. My heart breaks for Nathan. I feel so bad for him!

I would love to hear you compare and contrast Brucas and Dair---what you see as their similarities, what you see as their differences, why you personally prefer one over the other etc. And do you think Blair was genuinely in love with Dan? Obviously there's no rush answering!

😭 Okay, you're way too nice to me. I'm really not. I can barely get my point across. But thank you LOL

So first things first, I'm not nearly as familiar with Gossip Girl as I am One Tree Hill. I liked the first two seasons, but my interest waned after that aside from the Dair arc. Most likely, this won't be a satisfying answer, but I'll do my best.

In terms of similarities, the obvious is that aesthetically Lucas/Dan and Brooke/Blair are similar. Both Lucas and Dan are introverted, bookish, aspiring authors. They have notable judgmental streaks and a strong moral compass, initially looking down on the popular crowd/upper east side. Brooke and Blair are very much the unquestioned queen bees of their high schools. Both girls are interested in fashion and end up running a company in that field. Like Brooke with Peyton, Blair has insecurities re: Serena and their past struggle over a boy who cheated on her with her best friend.

However, Lucas and Dan are different because frankly, for all of Dan's complaints about being "lesser", he's still far more privileged than Lucas. The Humphreys never had a bottomless pit of money, but Dan was still able to go to a prestigious private school. Lucas is much more impulsive and hot blooded than Dan. Dan tends to handle conflict by using his words rather than his fists aside from in specific circumstances. Honestly, Brooke and Blair are probably more different than they are similar. Blair started the series romanticizing the idea of sex, wanting to share her first time with Nate at the perfect moment until she impulsively slept with Chuck. By the time we meet Brooke, who was the same age as season 1 Blair, she'd been sexually active for quite some time and wasn't necessarily looking to commit. While adult Brooke seems to have some regrets about being "easy", at the time it didn't seem to be something she was ashamed of. Brooke is naturally a very warm person. She's pretty much always the life of the party. In spite of Blair's extroversion, she comes across as cold, lacking Serena's natural charisma. Maybe it's because the Gossip Girl characters are generally pretty trashy people with an absurd amount of privilege, but Blair is far crueler than Brooke on her worst day.

I feel like Brucas and Dair are again, aesthetically similar. They seem like they'd have more in common than they do. But ultimately, I feel like Brooke and Lucas had an undeniable physical chemistry. The emotional connection came later and needed to be developed whereas it was easy for them to fall into bed shortly after beginning a relationship. Their first relationship mostly consisted of having fun and having sex. While Brooke fell hard for Lucas, he was still preoccupied with the idea of Peyton and didn't appreciate what he had. Dan and Blair were the opposite. They spent multiple seasons tolerating each other for the sake of Serena all the while interestingly having multiple bonding moments prior to becoming best friends. It was only after developing a friendship and discovering an emotional and intellectual connection that a physical connection became possible. I feel like I'm describing this badly, but it's not that I think Dan and Blair were naturally repelled by each other. Dan and Blair rarely took the time to truly see each other outside of their personal relationships with Serena. Blair was everything Dan thought he hated. Dan was supposed to be beneath Blair, the exact opposite of what she was looking for in a partner.

Both couples took a long time to enter a serious relationship. Brooke and Lucas had much more baggage considering Lucas's past with Peyton the first time around, but eventually Lucas convinced Brooke she was the only girl he wanted and that his feelings were genuine. Blair had to basically make multiple mistakes with both Louis and Chuck before realizing she'd fallen for Dan and that he was the one who actually loved her exactly for who she was. Both Dan and Lucas spent time pining for Blair and Brooke, keeping their feelings a secret for a long time for the sake of putting the girls first. But in time, both Lucas and Dan initiated kisses with Brooke and Blair, making their feelings known. Brooke and Blair needed time to process how they were feeling and wanted to move forward. Brooke needed half a season to allow herself to be vulnerable with Lucas again. It took Blair only (I think) two episodes to confess to Dan that he had her heart, not Chuck. And unfortunately, toxicity and horrible former relationships got between both relationships. One major difference is that unlike Lucas with Peyton (though I still maintain Lucas's alleged feelings for Peyton during seasons 2 and 3 weren't demonstrated well at all and mostly seem to be there with hindsight and Skills being used as a mouthpiece for the writers to try to shoehorn in an LP reunion in season 4), I get the impression Dan let go of Serena long before dating Blair. His feelings lingered during season 3 and part of season 4, but once Dan and Blair began to bond it was obvious his heart was with Blair. Apparently, season 5 ended with Dan cheating on Blair with Serena after she lied, saying she picked Chuck over him. Full disclosure, I haven't seen this episode. I have yet to watch season 6. I will eventually, but for now I feel validated for not giving those episodes any ratings. I guess that's sort of comparable to the school shooting kiss, only much more sketchy on Serena's end considering she both manipulated Dan and TAPED IT. There's no version of Chuck for Brooke, thank god. The worst Brooke had to deal with on OTH was irrelevant Felix and the teacher she dated for a couple of episodes. One major difference is that until Julian, Lucas was Brooke's greatest love. Dan was Blair's third or possibly even fourth love. I don't think Blair ever allowed herself to think in terms of Dan being the right guy for her. The toxicity of Chuck and Blair made it so that the relationship she'd shared with him seemed to be the more significant one. It was larger than life with constant ups and downs, with Chuck always whispering in her ear that the alternative, aka a real, healthy, truly loving relationship, would be boring. And because Blair is obviously just as terrible and dark as Chuck is, she couldn't possibly be satisfied with anything else. 🙄 But I digress. So in the end, Blair defaulted back to the familiar rather than the unknown while Dan straight up settled for Serena. Well.. at least out of the four endgames (Lucas/Peyton, Brooke/Julian, Dan/Serena, Blair/Chuck), Brooke's relationship with Julian was healthy.

I think the reason I prefer Brucas over Dair is that I'm much more familiar with their love story and the show as a whole than Gossip Girl or the relationship between Dan and Blair. While I think Penn and Leighton had good chemistry, the Chad/Sophia chemistry was something else. I loved Brucas first. I'm also somewhat a sucker for second chance romances where the guy realizes how badly he'd screwed up in the past and puts in actual effort to win back the girl he loves. LOL I guess it's my toxic trait. There was something so iconic about the Brooke/Lucas relationship. Even when things got messy, I still enjoyed watching it. Dan and Blair were also great, but I have such negative feelings about the show itself and ultimately felt shortchanged by their romantic relationship. What we did get was great, but it didn't last very long. It was truly the Rachel and Joey equivalent of Gossip Girl, and I hate that.

YES. I do think Blair was in love with Dan. I think the love Blair had for Dan was the kind that developed slowly, catching her completely off guard. It was a mature and healthy love based firmly in friendship and mutual support. Dan saw the real, vulnerable Blair rather than just her manipulative, cold, outer shell. Unfortunately, Blair had been conditioned to both think this type of love was all wrong for her, and had been fucked up by years of Chuck's emotional abuse and manipulations. In a version of the show where Gossip Girl had an actual happy ending and allowed its characters to evolve into the best versions of themselves rather than sending the message that they're destined to become their parents, Blair would have stayed with Dan. The story would have followed what it had been setting up since late season 3 (or possibly even before that if you consider their conversation in the fourth episode) through late season 5.
