There's no more succinct and beautiful illustration of how much better Pacey/Joey are for each other vs Dawson/Joey than in 3x16. The way that Dawson tries to teach Joey how to drive stick shift and they spent the whole time fighting and then at the end of that very same episode... Pacey offers to teach her and she gets it almost immediately. The way that Dawson is so snippy and passive aggressive with Joey. And then Pacey is patient and excited at her success. The very worst just oozes out of Dawson and as a result it also brings out the very worst in Joey. On the flip side... Pacey and Joey bring out the best in each other, truly love each other, and you can tell how much fun they are having together even doing the smallest things.

Love those relationships where the juvenile delinquent falls in love with a really good, special girl. And then, he turns his life around and soon becomes a man. Not just for her, ..but because of her.

But most of all, for himself. Because now, it's his utmost goal and desire to be the man of her dreams. Even if it means he has to wait for her and grow into his own person. But, because he loves her so much, he does whatever it takes. Because he can't imagine his future without her by his side. In the end, she gives him her whole heart, and he cherishes it like a precious gem. For better or for worse. Always and forever. ❤️

As mad as I am about Promicide and the whole situation in that episode. I can't relate at feeling anger towards Pacey in that episode. I get why Joey's mad and I feel horrible for her in that moment. But I can't feel anything but deep pain and sadness for Pacey. We see this guy become increasingly depressed throughout the entire show but especially in season 4. We see him come to hate himself more and more. He even has that line where he says that he's become someone who hates to look at himself in the mirror. He's had to endure verbal and emotional abuse from his father and brother and honestly the rest of his family with the exception of Gretchen. He failed junior year so now he has to retake junior year as well as complete senior year in order to graduate. He lost his best childhood friend in the past year, he feels the one woman he loves slipping away.

Promicide is so out of character and it makes me sob because for Pacey to get to that point he would need to be in a horrible place mentally. All of season 4 is Pacey crying out for help without saying the words and almost no one notices or cares except for Joey. And even Joey is no replacement for a therapist which Pacey needs terribly. Promicide is Pacey having a mental breakdown and it's just coming out in this outburst of anger that is totally misplaced fire.

I've been watching Dawson's Creek for the first time all the way through and by God Pacey Witter is the blueprint that man just don't miss. I've never kicked my feet giggling at how romantic a TV show character is but WOW.

My taste in romance has less to do with how romantic the relationship actually is (though that is a bonus) and more to do with how interesting I find the dynamic between the couple. Which is why fluffy vanilla romance usually bores the hell out of me. I want to see how these characters dramatically affect each other and fundamentally change each other and their individual understandings of the world!!! I want to see a beautiful tie-in between the romance and the themes + messages of the story and how it all builds to a climax!!!
