my face when i promised myself to write but instead i slept for 13 hours and spent the entire day doing nothing but maladaptive daydreaming and eating more trash than a whole raccoon family and now my tummy hurts and i’ve written nothing but 3 words

zhongli and neuvillette fighting over their reader 🤭🤭
scary dog privilege wherever you go, draconic courting gestures that would scare any regular person, they send each other deadly glares the moment you turn away,
stealing your clothes to just get a whiff of your scent, marking their territory all over your house - making it a battlefield basically, neuvillette (in my hc) is cooler and zhongli is warm so the cuddles are always so comfy ☺️😍,
they give you anything you want - you don't even have to lift a finger, they make you travel between the nations a lot though 😒 sooo clingyyy, extra gentle in their dragon forms as to not squish you, don't even get me started on the size difference 😍😍
just a little thought 🤭☺️
- 🐈‍⬛
Neuvi being colder is so real and canon. I see him as being colder + a lot more lithe, kinda lanky with smaller but sharper canines versus Zhongli who's warmer and a bit shorter then Neuvi + bulkier with bigger but not as sharp canines.
They've also got very different habits – Zhongli is very prideful not just of himself but his nation. He'll personally give your a tour and purposely drag it out as long as he can. Complimenting Liyue is basically complimenting him, checkmate Neuvi. Especially if he convinces you to try on some local Liyue fashion. Harmless and just a nice gift to anyone else but Neuvi sees it for what it is (since your wearing something from Liyue, technically wearing something of his. He loves his technicalities when it comes to staking a claim over you). Adds salt to the wound by touching you in totally innocent ways like to adjust you towards something he wants to show you or accidently brushing against you when he takes the bags of spoils he's practically drowning you in but really he's just making sure his scent sticks. He's just a sweet, nice gentleman with absolutely no ulterior motives trust.
Neuvillette does love Fontaine, but his habits are more about himself then the nation. He'll take you around if you ask or if the idea strikes him, but you'll probably stay around the making city area or the opera house specifically. He enjoys more personal time with just you and him then anything else. He values the immaterial to the material. Zhongli spoils you with gifts, but Neuvi tries to offer quality time irregardless of physical gifts (though he still gives them just not to the extent of Zhongli). He'll take you to see different operas if that's to your fancy, or leverage a bit of his authority to maybe see a few films since those seem to be hitting off in Fontaine recently. Bet that creaky old archon doesn't have those huh. He feels awkward if you want to watch a trial, but he'll reluctantly agree because. well. it's you. just don't wave or anything he's trying to work and he just Really wants to see you smile at him like that again and it makes him lose his train of thought. gets custom clothes designed by Chiori to replace your clothes from Liyue because they smell of Zhongli and it makes him sulky + he likes to match.
G-d forbid these two are in the same room as you because it's a war of attrition at that point. Constant accidental brush of the hand against your shoulder or elbow but it's just them trying to get rid of the others scent. they are side eyeing each other behind your back while being all smiles whenever your looking. If it's hot and you lean into Neuvi more he's practically GLOWING. not even smug he's just absolutely smitten and happy to be of service. immediately takes off his gloves and presses his hands to your face asking if your okay and if you want to go back with him. if it's cold out and you seek out Zhongli more hes smug as hell beneath the calm veneer. Offers you his coat and stay as physically close to you as he can under the pretense of being worried you'll catch a cold if he doesn't warm you up.
don't even get me started on your house either because you probably have tons of gifts from both of them accumulated everywhere. if Neuvi sees you use a tea set from Zhongli suddenly he had a fantastic gift idea he thought you'd like. he even got some tea included with it so why don't you let him make you some? Zhongli sees you using a goblet Neuvi gave you (totally a coincidence it's similar to his) and suddenly you have 27 square cups in your cabinets that you have no idea where they came from. if the goblet is mysteriously missing oh well. who knows :]

as an american, sam reid’s total inability to hide his contempt for overly fake-chipper american journalists, especially ones who Have Not Done The Assigned Reading know and care about the show, will never not be hilarious and iconic to me

I jokingly thought before that reading Junie B. Jones as a kid turned me into a feminist, but unironically, it kind of did.
I honestly think it comes down to the fact that Junie B. was not only allowed to be "weird," but her character arc never concluded like other girl characters would. In other media featuring "weird girls," the girl always ended her arc tamed - by force or convince, she would be prettied up, she would smile and be polite, and she would never speak out of turn. She would be perfect then, and would shed her veneer of individuality with the freedom that is conformity. As a kid, I noticed that girls weren't permitted to be "weird" like boys were. So when I read Junie B. Jones, I loved that she was frankly just fucking weird. She said things out of turn, she was rambunctious and imaginative and she was a realistic portrayal of a little girl. I loved reading those books because the narrative taught her lessons without punishing her for being weird, if that makes sense. So often, narratives punished weird girls for the crime of being a socially unacceptable girl, not for any true wrongdoing like lying.
Anyway, I just think it's interesting, because I watched and read a ton of books and shows and movies featuring girls and women, but none of them truly empathized with (or even tried to empathize with) weird girls on their own merits and capabilities and terms, or embraced the idea of a "socially inept/unacceptable" girl without punishing her in some way for her supposed ineptitude.

wrote up a quick post about how to use alliteration and syllabic stress in your writing 😊 paying careful attention to sound and stress is often instrumental to making a piece of prose "flow"
in the paragraph below, i've marked the areas where alliteration (the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of a word; assonance is the repetition of initial vowel sounds) is happening:
The headmaster of the Bards’ College is a huge man, handsomely-dressed, who at night moves in near-silence through his halls; only the swish of his great sleeves, slashed so that the fustian foams through, gives him away. That, and the creaky floorboard by the bushels. Lydia, without looking up, gestures for him to sit with her on the long, low trestle-bench by the kitchen door. [x]
the alliteration in this passage isn't always confined to a single sentence. throughout the paragraph, the repetition of consonant sounds sets the rhythm and cohesion of the prose. when weighing your word choice within a paragraph, one way to build rhythm and momentum is by (in moderation) choosing words that alliterate or assonate over words that don't
it makes a difference! as an example, let's say i'd used the word "attired" in this passage instead of "dressed":
The headmaster of the Bards’ College is a huge man, handsomely-attired, who at night moves in near-silence through his halls . . .
although "attired" and "dressed" mean the same thing (though attired has a more ostentatious or formal connotation), "attired" doesn't fit into this sentence as well as "dressed." this is the case for two reasons:
"attired" doesn't assonate with anything else in the paragraph (thereby isolating that later "d" sound in "door"), and—more importantly, in this case—
"attired" throws off the stress pattern of the sentence. note that, in the original sentence, every word is stressed on the first syllable:
The head'mas•ter of the Bards’ Coll'ege is a huge man, hand'some•ly-dressed, who at night moves in near-si'lence through his halls . . .
the word "attired," however, is stressed on the second syllable:
The head'mas•ter of the Bards’ Coll'ege is a huge man, hand'some•ly-at•ti'red, who at night moves in near-si'lence through his halls . . .
read that sentence out loud, and it'll probably sound "wrong"
the writer's task in cases such as this is to 1) choose whether to prioritize connotation or sound, and 2) consider the benefits and detriments of interrupting the stress pattern of the sentence. is the formal, fancy connotation of "attired" necessary here? is its inclusion worth sacrificing the rhythm of the sentence? does interrupting said rhythm add a useful element of surprise or disruption to the sentence? in this case, i didn't think so, hence the final use of "dressed" instead of "attired"
dedicating this amount of deliberation to every word that you choose to use pays off—eventually you'll find yourself writing "by ear" and falling into a rhythm without even thinking about it

So I heard we like hb…
Naturally, I had to draw her again cause everyone who interacted with my previous post was just the sweetest; thank you all so much for your kindness🖤
I drew her pretty quickly today and I still haven’t decided if I particularly liked this drawing enough to post; but alas, we could always use more hb

You know... it's okay to trust your body. If you are separated from your body to such an extent you feel you cannot trust it, I truly from the bottom of my heart empathize and feel grief for you, but you can trust your body.
It's okay to listen to your body and to heed what it is telling you. I wish you (and your body) well wherever you go. You deserve the peace of mind to feel able to do what you want.
#positivity#mental health#mental health support#gentle reminders#this is something i struggle with myself so that's why i said i empathize (well... i guess as much as you CAN empathize)#(because even if you have gone through the same thing... it's not going to look the same as somebody else going through that)#(and while it can be valuable to express empathy it doesn't mean you truly 'get it' from the other person's point of view)#i struggle sometimes not to feel like my body is fucking with me because sometimes i expect it to function at bare minimum#or i just assume that when it is in debilitating pain that it's just... somehow to fuck with me and i am cognizant that this isn't true#i am cognitively aware that the body isn't Specifically Designed to have a Fuck With You mode even if it feels like it#but my experiences with disabilities and general unwellness made it easy for me to alienate myself from my body#in order to preserve myself i felt the need to separate myself from every flaw (or 'flaw') i have#so when people are confused about why you could mistrust your /own body/ it's stuff like this that can somewhat illustrate it#i think we don't really talk about this but i think it's more common than i would assume#(mostly based on the There Are Eight Billion People principle)#hm making this also makes me realize that abuse absolutely plays into how i mistrust my body. hm.#mistrust in your body feels like self-protection and self-preservation in this weird and almost twisted way (at least in my experience)#but then you start mistrusting *everything* and nothing feels... GOOD or NORMAL anymore#i'm going to play mahjong about this 🫡👍

🐝 because im a huge pretentious snob and i only like fandoms/ships where people write dissertation-length meditations upon the nature of grief or some shit like that but also it’s gay sex.
oh man, then i think you'll like anything @englishsub has ever written. the ones that immediately spring to mind based on your ask are 总有一天; a place to hide (can’t find one near) and 替我踏遍天涯; walk the edge of the sky for me. the first one is a mdzs/cql wangxian modern au, and the second is a postcanon shl wenzhou fic, and despite being vastly different they both grapple with grief and loss and finding yourself with more life to live than you expected, and someone to live it with.
(for stories that are lighter but no less impactful, some other ao3 user yiqie favs are 狐狸精的故事; the fox spirit's story and 在此恭迎夷陵老祖; to yiling laozu, the great and venerable.)
