When a character calls themselves a monster there are many different whole responses that can be used to still reassure them.

The classic “you could never be a monster” where you’re not necessarily ignoring all the bad parts of a person but instead not allowing them to other themselves. It isn’t about the monster part but rather how being a monster is a synonym for evil, for being immoral. That their identity being rooted in being a monster damns them into villainous nature; so the responses denys that connection. “You are not a monster, you are not evil, you are not a villain.”

That being a monster doesn’t make you a bad thing. Being a monster means you can protect and defend. It means that your claws and teeth can be used as a sword.

And last but not least one of my favourites “yes, but I will love you anyway”.

You can be a monster, hideous and destructive and I will still look at you lovingly. Your hand may be stained with blood but I will kiss it nonetheless. There is no piece of me that wishes to be rip from you even in your worse. It is about devotion and loyalty. I will stay no matter what you become. A loyal knight, a loyal dog.

You can never be a monster to me because I love you.

I love when you're reading a cute fic and the characters are like cuddling or having a cute dinner and then the author decides to hit you with the most insane shit. Like

"Sonic looks up from his spot nestled into Shadow's side, smiling fondly at how focused his rival was on the movie playing. Moments of bliss like this reminded Sonic what it felt like to be whole. To be loved. Shadow meets his gaze, his expression fond and curious. Sonic smiles, 'Shadow, I'm pregnant.'"

HELLO?? YOU CANNOT DO THAT TO ME. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HE COULD DO THAT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE'S PREGNANT.

"Aziraphale snorts at Crowley's antics, amused at the way the demon was glaring at his cake like it personally offended him. Aziraphale insisted he and Crowley sit down for proper coffee and cake at least once a week, and Crowley was definitely still adjusting. They slipped into a domestic routine easily though, oddly enough, the cake was the only thing Crowley seemed to have an issue with. That, and the fact that Aziraphale had just found out that he and Satan were technically brothers, making him Adam's uncle."

a plotline that has been on my mind lately is like. the whole why would they go through all the training and brainwashing of river to kill the doctor if they'd just control her through a spacesuit? well, a foe as strong and unmoving as the doctor, not just any assassination attempt would work. "the man of peace who understands every kind of warfare, except, perhaps, the cruellest" because he would never die from a gun or a knife or an explosion, he'd find a way out like he always does. they found a way to kill him in the only way he could be killed: if he let himself be killed. and the only way to do that, to truly create a fixed point would be to create something, someone that would be worth it. and river song would always be worth it to him
