thinking about how IWTV loves to play with the theme of master and servant. thinking especially about that “yes, maître” and how armand’s first appearance onscreen, for almost the entire duration of s1, is in the role of louis’s “rashid.” thinking about how, when I first watched s1, it jarred me a little to see the authoritative, almost imperious way louis spoke to “rashid,” even after having endured to lestat’s tyranny himself, not to mention the tyranny of white people. it jarred me even more to realize that that had actually been armand—the ostensible love of his life—taking louis’s orders, bowing his head, saying things like, “I serve a god.” was that a strange and uncomfortable performance for the ancient leader of the paris coven? or was it perfectly natural for someone whose past means he defaults to the role of the subordinate, the submissive, the servant? is the relationship between the master louis and the servant rashid in fact the truest, rawest representation of the core dynamic between louis and armand?
#you really have to wonder: why was louis so comfortable ordering armand around?#why was the first disguise that occurred to them the role of rashid for armand?#it all feels very reflective of the underlying nature of their relationship#and if so#then armand’s s1 disguise was some masterful (hehe) foreshadowing#also i could write a whole post (or paper) about the many many many ways in which the show explores and toys with the master/servant dynami#and the way it transforms depending on the setting and its historical context#because “master” of course means something very different to louis and claudia when they’re in new orleans#god. this show#THIS SHOW#interview with the vampire#iwtv#iwtv s2#iwtv s2 spoilers#louis de pointe du lac#the vampire armand#loumand

🍯Astrology Notes🍯
🪴Virgo rising- are very caring people. They take great care to ensure that you have everything you need, especially for your health. They will be able to tell you a lot about various medicines.
🌱Gemini rising- funny as fuck sometimes. They are people who talk and don't stop. You can discuss all possible topics with them if you want. They have a very open mind. But when it comes to being able to do something, sometimes they are not so open to new things. Let's say one difference between them and Sagittarius is that they are not traveling types and they don't like to travel that much.
💫You will feel most comfortable talking to people with whom you have the same compatible moon and mercury in your house. for example: mercury in the 9th house and the other person has mercury in the 1st house. With this you can see what topics you can discuss with others.
🪐People who has saturn in 1st house looks better when they are skinnier. Because their bones and body structure are more beautifully emphasized. Many times they can have weight problems(they can quickly lose weight from worry).
🍀Earth signs look very down to earth even when they are joking around. Even when they make a crazy joke, they still look down to earth.
🐚Scorpios quickly stop trusting you. You just have to do one thing and they are done trusting you. When they see that you are dishonest to them in any kind of way, they will not trust you anymore. Especially when they get to know someone from the beginning and notice that they didn't tell them something or hid something from them, and as I said, it could be just one small thing like say you're going to say you're eating pizza, but in reality you're eating hamburger. It is small lie. But this is sometimes also one of the reasons why pisces and scorpio don't go so well together. Because pisces tend not to say everything while scorpios are. Many times, pisces swim off into their fantasy world and sometimes get lost in it. Scorpios are always looking for the truth in everything. I have seen successful Scorpio/Capricorn couples many times.
🍁Fire signs are actually very active people. So you have to prove them love with actions. They want to see how much you are willing to do for them and how much you are willing to risk. When you go beyond your limits and do something really crazy for them, they will really appreciate it.
💷2nd house represents your money & 8th house where you invest money. The 2nd house reflects your underlying relationship to money and patterns around money are often deeply ingrained. With the Moon in Cancer here, your emotional wellbeing rises and falls with your bank balance, both of which may be subject to flux. You can be a rags-to-riches success, but with Saturn in the 2nd you might always feel poor, the millionaire who still buys the budget range at the supermarket. The 8th house is concerned with debt and our relationship to institutions which provide loans, mortgages, and overdrafts. Capricorn on the cusp of the 8th suggests paying your dues and insisting on a proper contract, Sagittarius here you can invest a lot in travel or even illegal things.
☀️The Sun is the central flame of our vitality. Acting according to your Sun sign and engaging in activities denoted by the house it occupies are important ways to increase your energy and vigour. For instance, with Sun in the 1st, you might need time alone in order to recoup your energies - the presence of others can drain you, Or with Sun in the 6th, maybe you like to spend spare time working in the garden or catching up on DIY. The Sun in Sagittarius might mean you like to explore far afield; if in Aquarius maybe you like to holiday with a group of friends. Sun in Scorpio- working in the shadows or researching something no one knows about is best for you. Sun in 7th house you like to devote a lot of your time to your partner.
🧸Some signs are naturally more work-oriented and some more suggestive of needing a slower pace. Capricorn (or its ruler Saturn) is often highlighted in the charts of anyone with a strong work ethic - by contrast, Leo, Libra, or Pisces might engender a bit more need for time off, to play, relax, or dream. Each Zodiac sign has its ideal gap year or holiday. The fire signs might favour adventure breaks, the air signs a chance to meet new faces, the earth signs maybe an eco-trip; and the water signs a sojourn by the sea or in quiet, restful places.
🩰The IC and the 4th house describe home, both as a physical place and as an inner sense of roots, safety, and foundation. If you have Jupiter in the 4th, it might feel natural to you to travel around or you might even choose to live abroad - or with Uranus here, you may experience many changes of home(many unexpected moves). With the Sun or Moon in the 4th, you might be so strongly connected to home and homeland that uprooting yourself will not be easy - your Sun here suggests your life revolves around home in some way, the Moon that your emotional wellbeing is closely tied to it. With Pluto you can feel that your home is intense and that you are always transforming through it (but it can also leave bad memories). With Mercury can mean that you change your home a lot. With Mars you may feel that your home is often chaotic or aggressive and you are looking for a home where you can become independent. With Neptune many times your home is confusing, strange. Many times you find your ideal place somewhere by the ocean. With Venus your home is loving, genuine and you have loving parents to whom you love to return. But it can involve a lot of money or love based on it. So you can feel that your parents never really appreciated you if you didn't have money.
🧚🏼♀️About Aquarius: I want to say one thing about them. I would say that if they really really want they will do it. But most likely they are independent people & lost souls sometimes. I think that they are scared of attachment. So that's why they are rather alone. They are looking for someone. Who will be goofy as they are.
💌I think Valentine's Day is for Libras. Libra is a sign of love, romance, beautiful things. And if any sign is inclined to & like to celebrate this day, it's definitely the Libra. But I find it a little strange that it is in Aquarius season.
💘Cupido is definitely a Sagittarius sign. Although people don't believe that Sagittarians are so loving and romantic, but they really are. Cupido shoots into the hearts of people who are meant to be together. If you hit a sagittarius deep in the heart with your love, then you can see the true side of them. Then you can see how loving they are.
🌅The people you attract into your life are usually connected to your North Node. For ex.: North node in Virgo in your 8th house- you will mostly be attracted to people who have a virgo placements, scoprpio placements, or pisces/ taurus placements.
🌊Pluto symbolizes power in whatever house it is. The power you feel in yourself and the people around you. Strong experience of feelings. For ex.: 5th house - privacy, romance, jealousy, strong emotions, strong happiness, attitude towards the things you do, you feel strong love, devotion. Obsession with changing partners maybe or affairs idk. 6th house - obsessed with perfection, control, work, high expectations. 7th house - you attract a lot of possessive partners, obsession with your partner, but at the same time you can be afraid to get into a relationship, mistrust. 8th house rulership- curious, constant control, secrets, power over your secrets, emotional transformations, many dark things, connection with birth and death, great interest in hidden things. 10th house - people can see you as a strong opponent, driven for a career, they can see you as a person who has a lot of secrets, you can present people with challenges. Big influence.

SHE WANTS YOU!
🎧 you’re proud to be my man, and i won’t let you go!
synopsis: they just can't see what a particular fangirl of theirs is trying to do...with the msby 4!
content: litte bits of insecure reader and little bit of clueless msby. but fears are put to rest. fluffy. casual intimacy. they are Smitten & loyal bfs
total wc: 4k
BOKUTO: Kotaro has always been good at handling difficult people. It just wasn’t in his nature to think the worst of them, and he handles even intentional malice by interpreting it as genuine questions or comments that needed a response to. And so he’d reflect and answer honestly how he felt, and that was often times enough to shut those kinds of people down.
Even the seemingly most malicious kinds of people Bokuto eagerly approached in a friendly manner and treated as a close friend. That, of course, included his fans.
He's always been one to enjoy basking in the limelight, being praised for his strengths and acknowledged for his easy going attitude. It was a great bolster to his self-esteem; he loved the people, and boy did they love him.
It’s because of Kotaro’s easy going attitude that made forming a relationship with him very easy.
Boundaries can become more easily crossed, but Kotaro doesn’t have very many, which only encourages fans to attempt to see just how far they can tread over the line before they’re pushed back on the other side of it.
Of course, there was nothing wrong with fan interactions, especially on your end; your heart swelled when you saw the ways his fans supported him and how much joy your boyfriend took in connecting with them. Their support meant just as much as his love for the sport he plays.
But there’s one fan you just can’t help but get a bad feeling from.
It’s more instinctive than anything, but the fact that you’re a little too familiar with her doesn’t sit right with you. She's somehow managed to catch Bokuto at all his events, and talk with him outside of matches before he's due to depart from the arena. She's always eager to catch him, even at the very last second, but since it’s Bokuto, he has no qualms, and happily stays to chat for a couple of minutes before the coach insists the team needs to get a move on.
And then she’d start to slowly up the physical touch, from brushing her hand against his skin while reaching for something for him to sign, to fully grasping his arm as she laughs at something he said.
You knew he wouldn’t believe you at first when you brought up your concerns.
“Really? I mean, I don't blame her for coming back for more; I'm awesome! But she’s only a fan!”
This one particular person you had a bad feeling about was not exempted from your boyfriend's goodwill, despite over time becoming more obvious with her intentions. Eventually, she began treating him like an old friend with some underlying feelings.
“I don't think she has bad intentions.” he’d answer honestly in response to your concern. Of course, Bokuto doesn’t want to believe that this nice fan of his has an underlying agenda with her eager conversations, but he can at least see that the situation has been stressing you out with each reluctant drop of the subject, lip jutted out as if not fully soothed by his reassurance.
She’s there in the crowd again, and you know that after the game, no matter the outcome, she’ll go looking for your boyfriend as he sticks around for a couple of interviews to conclude the day, and you dread it. The game goes smoothly, with Kotaro in perfect form, something you know he wasn’t able to achieve very often back in his high school days, and you can’t help but marvel sometimes at the amount of progress he’s made.
When the Jackals eventually file out of the gym after their triumphant win, you make a beeline for each other. He quickly runs to meet you halfway in one of the halls, caught up in his adrenaline high from the game as he wraps his arms around your waist and spins you off the ground. He’s sweaty, and how he still has energy is beyond you, but you don’t care and immediately reciprocate the affection, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Did you see me? Did you see how amazing I was out there?” he badgers excitedly as he puts you down, and you nod with a grin.
“You did so good, Ko! That spike in the final set was—“
“Kotaro! You were incredible!”
Your grip on his forearms immediately tighten, and the two of you both look over your shoulder to see her jogging up to the two of you with a breathless laugh.
“As always, of course. I knew you’d be able to power through their defense!”
“Well, not always.” Bokuto let’s out a little laugh and peeks from the corner of his eye at your tense smile. She seems to take notice as well, and hers only widens.
“Give yourself more credit,” she scoffs playfully. “I noticed even in this game that you—“
“I appreciate the kind words, but I can’t stay to chat.” he smiles at her, wide and genuine, and you look down in surprise when you feel his arm wrap around you, his hand squeezing your shoulder as he brings you to his side.
“My partner here is treating me to a celebratory meal!”
The two of you both blink in surprise at his words. Typically no matter how crowded his schedule, he always spares a couple of minutes to chat.
“Oh, well… I suggest this one sushi place nearby. I can pull up the location!”
“That's alright! Y/N already promised to take me to one of my favorite places. It was nice seeing you again!”
And with that, he takes your hand and drags you off with a bounce in his step and a smile still plastered on his face.
There isn’t a single indication that any of his words were fake or had a malicious undertone meant to humiliate her. Only that he was vocal in that he prioritized you over her.
You gave him a teasing smile. “So, when did I say I'd be treating you?”
“You mean you won’t?!” he whips his head toward you with a heartbroken expression, as if having fully expected that you’d reward him for his incredible performance.
“No, no, of course I will. Anything you want.” you grinned, bumping his shoulder as his grip on your hand tightened and his smile widened, and he continued to boast about how great his plays were.
He later posts a message of thanks to his fans for all the support he received for the match on his socials with a photo of the two of you enjoying your meals. You can now be confident that no other fan will be testing their luck with his boundaries any time soon.
MIYA: Atsumu is solely focused on himself. On his plays. On sharpening his skill. On having his fun.
And, of course, on you.
Atsumu, as much as it has been stereotyped for him, is not one to look for validation in his fans. Whether they’re a fangirl or an old man in the stands who's watched the game all his life, he does not care for their criticisms nor their compliments. The only people he at all considers feedback from is his coach, his brother, and you. That doesn’t mean he’s immune to what they say about each one of his plays, however. He gets down when the commentators call out a bad play, and pumped when the stadium roars with cheers for him.
But because of this sort of suave personality of his, people fit him into the mould of a playboy. And because he has such high expectations of the people around him, people have assumed that he had high expectations of his romantic partners as well.
Someone rich, someone famous, someone absolutely drop dead gorgeous. That was who the majority of Atsumu's fans assume is his criteria for a partner. And so, when he’s spotted out with a celebrity he’s been working closely with for a modeling partnership, one that happens to exceed all of those expectations, it’s no surprise that dating rumors regarding the two of them being in secret kahoots start to circulate among not only their individual fanbases, but the sports community as well.
Multiple comments claiming the encounters to be a “soft launch” made your eye twitch as you encountered them under related posts. You couldn’t help but sometimes find yourself laughing at those who insist that it’s obvious they’re in love with one another.
Perhaps the celebrity he’s been hanging with was in love with him, as she hasn’t been the least bit shameless in expressing her admiration and adoration for your boyfriend, but Atsumu had not the slightest bit of romantic interest for her. You knew through his exasperated rants about her being difficult and obnoxious. But, of course, nobody else knew.
Still, he works with her for quite a bit of time. And though you know Atsumu isn’t the type to be disloyal, certainly not toward you, you can’t help but let the rumors get to your head sometimes, and in turn an insecurity manifests in the form of an ache in your chest or a lump in your throat. It doesn't help the fact that this celebrity is constantly posting her time with him online, and “playfully” validating comments that ship the two of them together.
He tells you to get off of social media when you get down about the situation. It just isn’t worth the mental torture; and besides, their relationship is strictly professional. It's the only reason why she’s so friendly. For a man who loves to bask in whatever praise he’s given, he sure seems oblivious to the very obvious clues she’s been dropping him. He has to believe it’s strictly the guise of accomplishing successful business.
Still, it’s not like you make a conscious decision to go against his words and subject yourself to further irritation and insecurity. You couldn’t help yourself; you knew very well that, compared to her, you were a nobody. You couldn’t compete with everything she had.
You slowly started to agree with the comments who argued that they should get together; they do look pretty good together, they are extremely compatible. And above all else, she could probably support him way better than you ever could. You swear to yourself you don’t feel jealous, bitter, petty--not in the slightest.
But the sour expression Atsumu comments on one evening while the two of you lounge on your couch as you yet again scroll through comments claiming your boyfriend would suit someone not like you has you reflecting otherwise.
“What’s with the look? Reading the news?”
“Mm.” Is your vague reply, eyes not peeling away from the screen in front of you. Atsumu’s curiosity grows, and he raises an eyebrow.
“What’s it say?”
A moment of silence between the two of you as you continue scrolling. When you finally process the question and silence, you inhale sharply and finally look up at him, closing your phone and setting it on the coffee table beside you. “No, it’s nothing. Just something online.”
“Ugh. Don’t tell me you’ve been scrolling through those comments again.”
You shoot him a glare at his insensitivity, but also at how quickly he was to figure it out. The sour look on your face has become synonymous with that topic that Atsumu could easily recognize as the source of your frustration.
“Fine. I won’t tell you.”
He groans as he collapses on top of you, closing his eyes and nuzzling into the crook of your neck. You grunt in pain at the sudden weight, and still annoyed from his previous comment, you try to pry his face away, which only makes Atsumu stubbornly latch even harder onto you. “Atsumu!”
“I told you, those people have no idea what they’re talking about. She’s insufferable.”
“I know.”
It’s a statement, but the sad tone in which you say it makes Atsumu’s heart sink. He opens his eyes and tilts his head to look up at you, chin digging into the side of your arm. “You’re way prettier.”
You roll your eyes. “Thanks.”
“And your place is nicer. And your food is tastier. And your humor is better than hers.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as you feel your heart lighten a little at his attempts at picking you up, and Atsumu feels his own growing lighter, too. “Don’t tell Osamu about the food thing.”
“Oh, no, his is still better than yours.”
“Of course it is.” You reply back as if it were hardly a matter that needed to be debated.
Atsumu was good at this; making you smile, making you laugh, making you feel loved and wanted. It didn’t take long for him to stomp on the insecurities that managed to manifest in your heart in order to lessen their load on you. He wouldn’t stand for his partner to feel inadequate compared to someone else, especially since Atsumu chose you. You and your wit, your kindness, your passion, your talent, your everything.
He stays over that night as he often does, and he knows he really shouldn’t do this, but the people he cares about came before anything else. And what’s the worst it could do, really?, responding to a couple of comments?
Needless to say that Atsumu’s replies talking you up about how great you are under his shippers’ comments make headlines on news articles the next day--and show the world just who his heart truly belongs to regardless of who you were.
HINATA: Much about him is different, upgraded. His technical skill has immensely bolstered since his high school days. He's able to pull off more in games; impressive feats achieved by his lightning quick reflexes and speed, once aiding him in his high school signature quick now aiding him in setting and receiving, sharpened by his intense training in the South. Even his physique is different; still shorter than most players you’d encounter in the realm of volleyball, but he’s grown a few inches and packed muscle all around. If that wasn’t enough proof of his hard work, his tan surely gave away just how much he dedicated himself to the sport with all the time he spent out in the sun training.
All of these things, along with his impressive performance on the court, have made Shoyo Hinata quite popular, and not simply for what people used to cheer him on for; being the underdog, or one half of a fearsome duo. His journey as a player aided him in his career, and all on his own has he established himself as an indomitable force.
People admire him for that. You admire him for that. You couldn’t blame the people who were so amazed and star stricken by him; how could you when you were as well?
But sometimes it went overboard, and sometimes it seemed like you were the only person who took notice. Sometimes this one sided observation was accidental; he’s too absorbed in his game; in the blood rushing to his ears, in the thrill of a good game-- that he just doesn’t notice. Sometimes you purposely keep the observation one-sided; these kinds of fans are inevitable, and the rational part of you knows they won’t compromise your relationship by any means.
There's one enthusiastic interviewer that’s a fan of Shoyo’s, and that he’s very friendly with; as he is with all of them. But this one in particular has managed to latch onto him because of it. You see her and her crew at every one of his games, big or small, and always openly expresses her very immense love for the sport; and for him.
Of course, Shoyo only understands “volleyball”, and you know that he’s always been giddy over being shown on the front covers or interviewed online, and so he’s always eager to accept a conversation with her, especially since she’s so friendly and knowledgeable.
iIt’s late in yours and Shoyo’s apartment when they run the interviews and live games from a big game earlier that season. As they start to discuss the Black Jackals, you call for him over your shoulder in the kitchen, where he’s preparing dinner.
“Sho, hurry, it’s starting!”
You can hear the increased urgency in his movements, but they die out as you watch one of his interviews from a very familiar news channel come onto screen. Your boyfriend, from hours earlier, stares happily at the interviewer behind the lens.
“Your skill and strength was absolutely incredible in this game- as it always is. You were also very impressive in high school, you must’ve been really popular—especially with the girls.”
You felt your smile drop slightly, not even hearing the curses coming out of Shoyo’s mouth as he fumbled around in the kitchen.
The Shoyo on screen chuckled and rubbed his neck. “Oh, no, not really. Many didn’t even believe I was a starter!”
“Oh, that’s me!” Present Shoyo struggling with your food calls out excitedly from behind the kitchen wall.
“I know!” you laugh over your shoulder, and you recognize the interviewer’s also intermingling with yours, which only makes your irritation grow.
“You’re so impressive though, especially now! I'm sure there isn’t a single person out there who wouldn’t want to be with you.”
You could feel a vein in your head pop and your eye twitch, but you were caught off guard by on- screen-Shoyo’s next words.
“Well, I wouldn’t really know; I have an amazing partner who I'm always looking at, so if there were, I wouldn't have noticed!” he laughed, and it’s so sincere that your heart flutters at the honesty behind it.
“Ohh, that’s so sweet.” you hear the interviewer speak again, and you laugh at the significantly less cheer in her voice. “They must all envy—?“
“Y/N!” he interrupts to introduce you with a cheerful nod. “Yeah, I'm not sure. I know I used to envy their admirers.” he reflects with a short laugh. “But they’re truly my biggest supporter, and always put up with my schedules and drills. There’s one drill in particular actually—“
He goes back to droning on about the subject at hand, about his volleyball training and how it impacted his performance in the game, but by the time Shoyo from behind the kitchen wall finally arrives into the living room, the main spokesperson has moved on to discussing other players and matches.
“Aw, did I miss it?” Shoyo cries disappointedly as he speeds into the room, sliding your plate down on the coffee table in front of you and taking a seat beside you on the couch with his own.
You grin at him, mind still on his words from before and you nudged him. “Took you long enough.”
“You could’ve helped.” he grumbles and you kiss his cheek sympathetically with a small sorry, and from the way he brightens and his cheeks tint pink, you can tell you’re immediately forgiven.
And as he gushes in awe of the other players’ highlights and interviews, a small part of you can’t help but think back on his words and feel a little smug with yourself when you also remember the interviewer’s awkward disposition after he had brought you up. You can’t help but be comforted to know that the innocent mention of you was not only a reminder to her, but to those like her, that his heart was fully committed to you and only you.
SAKUSA: If there was one aspect of Sakusa’s career he particularly disliked, it was the fans.
It was evident that he couldn’t care less about the fame he had or the things people were willing to do for him or had to say about him (unless they were directly interfering with his life), and you couldn’t help but feel some sort of relief to know Kiyoomi would not spare a single glance at some of his more fiercely devoted fans.
Yet of course, your problem had to lie outside of that realm.
Your problem was not an avid fan, who had the circumstances of a parasocial relationship to comfort you, but a colleague of Kiyoomi’s whom the Jackals worked pretty closely with; and happened to be quite a fan of your boyfriends.
You felt bad getting worked up over something so petty, but her persistence in trying to extend her relationship with Sakusa into something friendlier couldn’t help but sound off alarm bells in your head. You already knew that your boyfriend had a million other nuisances to deal with, and you had no intention of adding onto that list with your selfishness and unjustified uneasiness, especially when you knew your boyfriend had strict boundaries he wouldn’t compromise for anyone.
Well, almost anyone.
She was shamelessly unprofessional at times, attempting to emulate your affectionate behavior towards him in hopes that she’ll receive the same sort of submissive response that only you could get out of him.
Your boyfriend, for the sake of keeping good business, tolerated the over-friendliness, and saw it as nothing more than an attempt at trying to seem more casual and easy going in a business setting.
You’ve attempted to subtly bring up your discomfort at times when she got too out of hand for your liking, typically when the two of you were in the car or lounging around at home. You’d ask his thoughts about her behavior or her personality, to which he respond with something that amounted to the conclusion that: “she’s just doing her job.”
She’s tagged along on one of the away games that you so happen to also be coming along on. She's been quite enthusiastic on sharing her research on the area they’re staying in to him, and she doesn’t spare a single detail as he prepares to head out for the day.
“--and apparently the food in this area is extremely good. Everyone says that you can’t visit without trying it. There’s this restaurant in particular not too far from the training center! I’m sure I can get the two of us reservations before we--”
“Why would we do that?” he asks suddenly, obviously already irritated by her incessant conversation, turning toward her with a frown.
Her expression is one of shock and slight embarrassment for a moment before she recollects herself.
“Just…you know, to sample the cuisine!”
“Is it business related?”
Again, blunt and to the point, the woman needs a moment before she responds.
“Well--”
“My partner and I have plans while we’re in the area. You can talk to my manager about scheduling a meeting regarding any matters you have to discuss. I've already discussed with them my availability.”
You start to approach him as he finishes setting the remainder of his gear into his training bag, and the woman yet again tries to recollect herself after suddenly being met with the fact that Kiyoomi was already taken. He looks up at you waiting for him by the gymnasium doors, and doesn’t even spare the woman a single glance or wave before making his way over.
He bumps your shoulder as he strides in step with you, mumbling “let’s get out of here.” and then “are your hands clean?”
And when you mumble a yeah in response, he reaches down to take one in his, intertwining your fingers and leaving just enough room for the woman watching your backs to be able to see the rare show of affection.
You’re caught off guard by the sudden pda, and glance over your shoulder, then back at him in confusion. He feels your quizzical gaze on him and sighs exasperatedly. “She wasn’t just doing her job…”
You couldn’t help but hum a little pleased with yourself, puffing out your chest a little when you realized that she didn’t get her way, and squeeze his hand a little tighter. He shoots you a look at you a little with a roll of his eyes and squeezes back. “We’re going back to the room.”
“Actually, I heard there was a really nice restaurant around here. I was thinking of trying to get us reservations.”
He stared down at your eager smile and bright eyes and found his resolve waning the longer he did so. He turned his gaze back toward the front. “Okay. Room first, though.”

Nakshatra Gunas - The Study of Underlying Motivations
I am part of that power which eternally wills evil and eternally works good.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, the Gunas of Nakshatras translate to the essential energetic disposition of the natives and the effect their have on their environment. This energy goes beyond words and simple communication. It is simply the vibrational imprint that these Nakshatras produce.
To understand the Gunas, we first need to understand the concepts of Rajas, Tamas and Sattva.
Rajas is the human pursuit of fulfillment of desire. It’s the material enjoyment and the planning, preserving and organizing that comes with that enjoyment as the prerequisite. It’s linked strictly to the concept that there is a certain lack that one must fulfill through the material world, but that lack is in reality lack of self awareness, that we are developing here. Rajasic planets are Mercury and Venus.
Tamas is the difficulties that are put in front of us for the purpose of our development, what we discover once we got to know ourselves enough through Rajas. Tamas is simply where we show spiritual ignorance, but the goal of Tamas is ultimately wrestling the dragon and breaking that ignorance. Here is where we face and overcome our “shadow side”, or fail to do so if the planet doesn’t perform well. Tamasic bodies are Rahu, Ketu, Saturn and Mars.
Sattva is the state of spiritual enlightenment. With that enlightenment comes satisfaction even among difficult circumstances, because Sattva is aware that even any difficulties of the Tamasic stage are an act of God for our self betterment. As a result, Sattvic natives are detached from obsessive desires but also excessive worries about the future. Sattvic planets are Sun, Moon and Jupiter.
If you look at the table above, you will see that each Nakshatra has three levels to it’s Guna nature.
Level one is the basic nature of each Nakshatra, but that only puts them into each group, showing that the first one through Rajas is achieving self awareness, the second one through Tamas confronts their darkness in interpersonal relationships and the last one achieves Sattvic bliss in collective participation. However, once we go beyond a certain level of simplicity, we discover a deeper story in levels two and three.
I will give you an example with Pushya, because it has all 3 Gunas in its nature. In its base, Pushya is a Rajasic Nakshatra, which means it desires to establish a structure in the physical world, based on its Dharmic interests. But as we move to level 2, we can see that Pushya’s underlying motivation is Sattva, meaning that there is desire in this Nakshatra to build physical, Rajasic structures as abodes to Sattvic practices. So the Rajasic desire has a spiritual tinge to it, because it allows one to feel the presence of God on Earth. Then, we get to level 3, the deepest, most hidden expression of what Pushya does. It creates Tamas, triggers in eyes of other people, because when structures of both Rajasic and Sattvic splendor appear in front of people, all their insecurities are lit up through contrast. As a result, actual contact with such splendor forces people into very deep self reflection, which causes discomfort and so reveals people’s lowest nature through Tamas. Pushya’s deepest desire is for all that splendor to purify their lowest parts also.
Another example that contains all 3 Gunas, Vishakha. Vishaka’s basis is Tamasic, showing its intimidating, fiery facade and overpowering nature. This Nakshatra causes superficial conflict or discomfort due to submission of either party in its immediate environment at first glance. However, as we go deeper to level 2, we discover Vishakha actually has a desire for a peaceful Sattvic state, and they are more assured in their chaos than people give them credit for. So the intentions of these natives are more pure than we expect at first glance, as they have an inherent positivity at their core and enjoy a friendly atmosphere. However, as we descend into level 3 we discover the presence of Rajas, their passionate desire nature and their talent to conquer the world, themselves and immerse in self development. This is also where these natives realize that the Tamas they were facing was due to others sensing their competitive nature and wanting to subdue them to eliminate them as potential rivals for their desires, and admit their own desire for growth and progress to themselves.
As you can see, each Nakshatra has a unique story that shows its progress, desires and complexities. Level 1 is the part of Nakshatras nature that seems the most obvious, down to level 3 which translates as energetic consequences that you might even think are unexpected. You can meet people who seem chaotic but desire peace, and people who seem polite but secretly want to create chaos. And all of these traits exist for a reason of the Nakshatras fulfilling their karmic destiny.

star trek fic recommendations
(small Note: i don't read a lot of fic and don't seek it out very often, so i am one hundred percent sure there is a lot more beautifully written star trek fics out there and if anyone has any recommendations for me i am very happy to take them!)
+ piercing music played with bloodied fingers - by 1nterlaced @firstroseofspring
T'Pring takes her fill.
This fic blew out the little we get of T'Pring in the show and created this fascinating person with history and perspective in both a convincing way and with this underlying theme of the value of "choice" in personhood--which not only springs off from canon but enriches it in such a way that I really think this should be published into the ongoing canon of this character. The language is considered and interesting and really engages with the conceit of Vulcan aliens. The craft of this whole fic is truly gorgeous and makes the ending, the climax of choice and interest and attention all established so beautifully in T'Pring as the story progresses, all the more intense in resolution and feeling.
Quote: "One week into her arrival, the sky is cloudy and starless and has been nothing else. Despite the heavy pollution on the planet, the sight is beautiful- emerald green with a constant blanket of thick white clouds. The storms in the area are incessant, roiling and loud. She’d taken a trip to the coast the day before and found that the seaside was much of the same- a ferry trip she'd planned to take to a small island was forced to re-accommodate to be taken by a safer mode of transport, and she’d watched the turbulent waters through the glass instead of feeling the water under her feet."
+ say it soft, and it's almost like praying - by @daemonologywrites
In space, she is simply Lieutenant Uhura. (Or: isn't it a little fucked up that Uhura's first name doesn't get canonized until 2009?)
An incredibly sensual and sensitive examination of Uhura's name and the intimate nature of names and language in general. Absolutely adored it as a framing for how Uhura perceives a varied universe and how she feels perceived by it in turn. The attention paid to details of sound and phrase is reflected by the language of the fic itself, which is beautifully and artfully written. Since it's canon that Uhura translates poetry in her free time (and speaks significantly about moonlight), this fic reads as exactly the sort voice needed to describe her relationship with words and with others.
Quote: "The issue being: that no matter how Uhura thows herself into the fires of dialect and idiom, there are yet those phonemes too fine to be heard by human ears, too harsh to be uttered by a human tongue. Her universal translator can analyze the sound waves and synthesize the appropriate components, but woman-to-woman, alien-to-alien, her heart skips a beat and that fine name worthy of study and finesse (she'd only heard it once in its entirety but the tune of it had lingered oh-so-long) becomes simply—'T'Pring.'"
+ Cut the Strings - by @lostyesterday
During an attempt to secure dilithium from a seemingly abandoned refinery, a terrifyingly powerful and perceptive artificial intelligence takes control of Seven’s body and holds B’Elanna hostage. B’Elanna must rely on her engineering skills and her wits to save both Seven and herself.
This fic was fascinating--it could really be one of the truly memorable Star Trek episodes. The questions coming from its story and characters and writing were all of a sci-fi short story quality and the conceit underlying the plot sticks with you. It's also a particularly good story for the character B'Elanna, capturing the things that arouse B'Elanna's sympathies and showing so movingly how she controls those sympathies and uses them to react and to think and to protect and to just be B'Elanna. The touch of real intimacy between the characters works so well at the end of the story, the way they both wanted to reach out to the other, in a way that finally overcame the tension between them, was really lovely.
Quote: “I had a body once, you know,” Lady Aria whispered. B’Elanna’s eyes flew open. The expression on Seven’s face had turned soft and wistful. “It was fully mechanical – not partially organic as this body is. But they destroyed it.”
+ Simulacra - by TheonlyDan
Philippa Georgiou will always fall into Michael’s arms. You kiss her. She angles her face just in time so your lips land on her cheek, not her mouth. So there’s your last kiss.
This fic portrays a tension between Michael and Georgiou so completely; Michael's yearning, her rationalizing, her acceptance, her non-acceptance--it's all laid out in sparse intimate moments, with evocative figurative language, arguing really well that there is both horror and comfort in being something significant to someone else.
Quote: "Georgiou is fixated on being everything to you, everything and a little extra. So there’s love."
+ patience - by @trillscienceofficer
“I thought eating azna would be enough to calm me down, but I was wrong.” Lenara didn’t hold Jadzia’s gaze for very long, like she was ashamed of something. “I’ve been missing home— I mean Trill, terribly lately.” Jadzia frowned. She’d had no idea. Jadzia and Lenara share a meal (and some feelings) at the replimat.
Everytime I think about this fic I ache. It shows precisely what it is that Lenara left for in "Rejoined," while still being a story about her staying. Lenara's distinct loneliness in this is almost difficult to read because in the moment in the fic there truly is no solution to it except (as Jadzia says in this) to grow comfortable with the discomfort. Jadzia and Lenara, in both dialogue and interpersonal interaction, are so real in this, acting and speaking as any person does about things so beyond their control. And the details in the world-building are both so interesting and lend their choices and their regrets so much depth. When Jadzia remarks that she hasn't ever been to a particular Trill festival, not in any of her lives except one (who remembers it differently), the weight of all the memories that Jadzia and Lenara carry is felt, which is so important I think to both the characters and any version of how their romance plays out.
Quote: “Depths,” she said, hiding her face behind her hands. “It’s really too late now, isn’t it? I can’t bring you the festival, not now and not ever.” She met Jadzia’s eyes, stricken, and Jadzia’s chest constricted painfully. Lenara continued: “The stupid part is, I never really cared for it before. I don’t like the smoke, or the spiced cider, or freezing outside while the fire runs out. And yet now it feels like I’ve lost this— big part of my life. It doesn’t make sense,” she finished forcefully.
+ words for the way you live - by Mirekat
The Dax symbiont, in the wilderness
There's something so special in the idea of exploring the perspective of the symbiont itself and this fic delves so beautifully into what that personhood would feel like; memory and sensation and what it means to be beloved parasite or to have a parasite, the ineffable relationship between symbiont and host. The language in this fic implies a person of deep feeling and attachment and (I might just be inferring this for my own interpretation--it's a very rich fic) makes the argument that part of the Trill conceit to gain vast experiences is sourced in the symbiont itself for the symbiont loves (in a complicated way) each body it is and mourns and continues, inevitably.
Quote: you will know symbiont. you will know parasite. you will know that you can think, and that because you can think you can choose, and that it is right for you to choose symbiont and not parasite, to choose bodies with words and long memories
+ When Janeway met Tuvok - by mystery_ink
Janeway appears in front of three admirals after what she thought was a successful mission.
This take on Janeway is so inspired and so fascinating, I wanted to live with Lieutenant Janeway for several long years. The tension in the story unfolds so well and the realism inherent in the situation makes the characters feel so real. The indignation on both sides, the change that will happen to them both (only artfully hinted at), and the way it's not a large action that Janeway takes to concede something to Tuvok at the end but it's nonetheless significant: it's all compelling.
Quote: “Lieutenant,” Aates said gently. “We’d like to hear your side of the story.” - “What story?” Densa asked. “This is real life we’re talking about here.”
+ Speech - by raven (singlecrow)
Five languages she learned to speak, and one she already knew.
I found this fic in a crazed fit, desperate for Uhura content, by basically blocking every male character tag and relationship on ao3, and then some. It was very worth the effort. This is so creative and so interesting and so fun and so moving and exactly what I want to see explored more and more and more. The ideas of different languages described in this are delightful and watching a character encounter them and seek, determinedly, to understand them was even more so. I want whole books dedicated to the morphological constructions of the smell-language. Actually, all of them. I want a book for all of them.
Quote: The people of the Light worked with their hands. Their world was made of chromium and glass, wood and stone, smoothed with saltwater, and time. Nyota had told Spock about their intricate art, their solidity of tradition, and the elegiac sparseness of their poetry. She had talked with her hands over breakfast, about cultural continuity and fluidity, and how a world never recorded was never objective, described and experienced in flux.

Love Confessions in the Baxter DLC
Because i am very unwell, thank you. Part 1/3
After over 70 hours of playing the Baxter DLC – and despairing over that one monochrome guy, you know who – I wanted to take a moment to talk about all the possible love confessions in Baxter's version of Step 4. I find them all lovely and each of them made me squeal and smile like crazy, and i just gotta express my appreciation for them somewhere.
In Step 4 there are three love confessions. Two of them can be initiated by the MC, and the third one will be proclaimed by Baxter, if the MC doesn’t confess first. I tried all of them a couple of times, and they are all very cute (although my personal favourite is the confession the morning after the wedding)!
Before we begin i want to warn y’all that i wasn’t sure about the approach i wanted to take when talking about these moments, and as a result this post might not be a "put together careful game analysis" thingy. It's mostly just my ramblings and feelings that hopefully are a-okay to read haha. Without further delay, let’s begin!
Spoilers for specific moments in Baxter's version of Step 4!
All of the confessions take place after the wedding ceremony, so if you hadn't gotten there and don't wanna spoil those great moments for yourself i don't recommend reading further. I will go quite in depth about each option.
In chronological order, the first feelings declaration is the confession immediately after the wedding has ended.
Or as i've been referring to it in my head, The Wedding Confession!
Everybody is busy cleaning up, and MC hasn’t had a chance to have a one-on-one moment with Baxter since they split off in the morning. Naturally, they want to talk with him after the event is over. There is this underlying fear, that Baxter will leave again and they can't let that happen.
The two talk and Baxter apologises for his actions towards MC, five years ago in Sunset Bird and now, after they met again. I need to add that this apology is very well written and it definitively pulled on my heartstrings. Here the player can choose to confess on their own, accept his friendship hoping for a different type of relationship later on or just become friends.
Since i’m yet to play Baxter’s version of Step 4 with platonic feelings, i don’t know if this option appears if you have him at Fond. If anyone of you has done it, i would love to hear what it looks like! For example, does the player get to confess either way, in case they changed their mind (just how here you can choose to be friends)?
Moving further, if we choose to confess right away we get to pick how we want to do that - with words or by kissing him. Each choice will be preceded with an internal monologue from MC about their and Baxter’s relationship and what he means to them. I really like the way it's written. They go through all of the stages they've been around each other. If you met him at the Cypress in Step 2 Soiree Moment they mention how he was a boy in their memories, becoming real when they meet again by chance during summer of 2016. How he made this summer into everything and more and how he left. The years apart and finally the summer they reunited. I can't explain my feelings well, but i find this monologue very sweet but also full of longing - it makes me smile and it makes my heart ache at the same time.
Depending on when the MC confesses, Baxter has a different reaction to their silence. Since now he is waiting for them to accept him into their life again, he gets nervous the longer MC is lost in their thoughts, which is reflected in the expressions of his character model. It’s described as cracks of anxiety appearing on his face and him slipping back into his professional pleasantness. He chose to be vulnerable, and how MC replies will affect him.
After the character’s musings end the player gets one last chance to reaffirm the decision to confess.
Personally, I really like that we have the option to do so. Not only is it useful in case the player suddenly changed their mind, but also helps create the response you want from your MC.
If you back out then you no longer can confess in that moment. The story progresses the same as in the case of choosing not to confess. You can confess later in the game, or not confess at all and have Baxter do that.
If you pick the option to check if he means it, Baxter will reassure MC about wanting to stay by their side. It’s really adorable - especially since in response to MC he says “I do” (ya know, the famous wedding catchphrase) which he immediately follows up with: “You’ll have to excuse me for using that answer at someone else’s wedding, but I am entirely serious.” What a dork. After picking this option only two of the three are left - you can go further or back out.
And finally, you can confess. MC makes note of how now that the wedding was over, there would be no complications for the newlyweds (although they thought Miranda proposing to Terry at their wedding would be a great idea, so they really wouldn't mind lol). They think that since Baxter asked them out first, five years ago, it’s only fair that they do it now. It's one line, but for some reason i like this sentiment a lot. Like hell yeah, go MC! Ask him out now, make him speechless!
When it comes to spoken confessions, there is an abundance of choices to pick from. But my absolute favourite option is to echo Baxter’s own words from Step 3 Sightseeing Moment back at him: "Could I consider all the time we've spent together a date?". Chef’s kiss, it’s all coming together like a beautiful piece of tapestry. Simply iconic of them.
Confessing with a gesture has less options to choose from, but all are equally cute! If you choose to confess in this way, MC will have a short revelation about how different kissing Baxter now feels to kissing him five years ago. Baxter reacts a bit differently to this type of confession, since MC enters his personal space. My favourite is confessing by kissing Baxter on the forehead. It's absolutely precious.
The way Baxter reacts to MC confessing to him is… very interesting to say the least. He was ready to be friends them again or accept their rejection (there is no option like that in the game, but realistically, you just know he would prep himself up for this possibility) but he was not ready for a love confession. Baxter gives MC a moment to move past this and pretend that nothing happened, but it’s not going to work. I find that a curious thing to do. Baxter isn't hoping that MC doesn't have feelings for him and he himself does for them, but there is still that feeling of insecurity in him, that prevents him from accepting the confession right away.
We have the option to have MC sweep Baxter into a dance, or keep talking without that. I love the former choice and i always pick it for my character haha. It’s especially cute how Baxter stumbles and is so out of his depth. Both because of the unexpected movement and the sudden confession.
You can pick an option to tell him, that MC wanted to be with him even five years ago. His reaction to it is just. He is stunned and he doesn't believe it. But he knows MC isn't lying as well. I can feel the conflicted emotions he must have been experiencing upon hearing that just in one line of dialogue. And i think that's pretty powerful writing.
But then he fires back. He is full of disbelief and he doesn’t understand what could he have possibly done to deserve MC's affections. He doesn’t want to call MC a liar but he can’t accept that outcome either. Baxter’s old ways of dealing with relationships are resurfacing, because he can’t believe that he has the right to form such a deep connection with someone. It’s pretty heartbreaking to witness.
It's... so sad. "What did i do to make you like me?" he asks, because there must be something, because simply being himself is not enough, when Baxter inherently believes that he doesn't contribute anything. And if he doesn't contribute anything to somebody's life, he has no place in it.
MC decides to change tactics. Instead of trying to make Baxter accept their feelings, they ask what they mean to him. Whether they end up together is secondary - their goal is to help him overcome his mindset. I find that a really powerful act of love - helping the person you care about understand that they deserve to be loved without extravagant outings and carefully constructed barriers.
I really love Baxter’s response in this confession because it is very true to his character arc. His hesitance, how he withdraws and tries to appear unaffected. He reciprocates MC’s feelings, but he is too ashamed of himself and afraid. His view on himself makes him think that he can't be in a relationship with someone or friends with them, and that is something i find deeply sad. Still, he answers MC’s questions, with a few prefaces. He cites his inability to do things in the morning, less financial income and his past relationship management as reasons for why MC wouldn’t want to be with him. It’s him giving MC the chance to resign, to take back the love confession while they can. It reminds me of declining a meeting with your friends, because you believe that they will have more fun without you. It's self-preservation of your own feelings and diminishment of your impact on others, which comes from some form of dissatisfaction with the way we are.
But MC doesn't take their feelings back. They assure him that they want to be with him.
And once that is done, they ask him:
(I usually can comment on writing/art, but when i can't that's how you know it's the shit. i sat with my mouth open and my hands flapping around just cause this confession got me that excited <3)
This is the dialogue you get when you have Baxter on Crush. If you pick Love, instead of "I want to be with you" he will say "I'm in love with you".
Just like that, he accepts. I was totally shocked when that happened, but well, it does make sense. It was never a question, and Baxter admits so himself. He never stopped wanting to be with MC. He further expresses that he wasn't happy pushing them away five years ago and when they met again. It's quite sad to hear him admit that he didn't think staying together (in more than a romantic way) was an option until moments ago. But he got there ultimately and that's worth celebrating. Growth isn't linear, and sometimes we fall back to our old habits.
I really adore how openly Baxter expresses his affection for the MC, in the confession and later. Compared to Step 3 it feels more mature (no shit, sherlock) but also self-assured. Because he is finally starting to believe, that this - a relationship with a person who really knows him and chooses to stay - is something he can have.
These two lines of dialogue? Murdered me in my sleep with love and care. Sir, how dare you do that to me.
After that the two sillies finish their dance. Their story has a happy ending, they have been reunited. I adore how warm and happy this situation feels, and the descriptions make it feel so light and cheerful, like the moment with MC failing to catch their breath because they are laughing gleefully or Baxter holding them in a gentle embrace.
I really like this confession. Like i said before, it’s very true to Baxter’s character, and it also shows, that despite having good intentions and doing everything you can to change, people can still slip back into their old habits. But there will be people around you that believe you can learn and do better, and will stay with you and help you through it.
I also adore the overall silliness (after the angst is over, but i do love my fair share of angst as well) and the emotional beats. The characters banter, joke around.
And express how much they care about each other.
Also the fact that Miranda, Terry and Cove just gawked at the pair while they were having this huge emotional event is just hilarious. They are very nosy friends and i love them for that lol. Of course, Baxter is completely unaffected. GB Patch knew that if they made this man blush more than he already does in the game, they would actually kill us.
I'm not kidding, i die every time he blushes and get revived when he snorts. That's just the circle of life.
So yeah, that was one out of the three confessions! It's amazing and i hope i was able to convey what i love about it! Prior to playing the Baxter DLC i had around 50 hours on Steam, and after i got it It turned into 120 hours so... Yeah, Baxter Ward.
I'm splitting my confession ramblings into three posts for convenience. Parts 2 and 3 will be finished soon... Hopefully. Once they are i will place links to all the parts in each post (if i learn how to,,,,). Also wow, this post took me way too long to write, holy shit.
Peace out <3

I would like to point out everything I say is obvi just how I read his chart and is a actual reflection on him as none is us actually know him . Also this ain’t to make he out as a bad person/partner he is still a fun/nice guy to be around he just might have more problems then others possibly lol
Yes ! You’re correct which is why I would assume he would end up with a professional career such as a doctor/teacher/ or a student . I say student because his charts aligns with having more control over his partner and relationship and leads him to wanting to seeking out a younger partner for a long term relationship. But it’s contradicts what we’ve seen him go for in the past because he is very into have structure in every day life to which he sees having a more mature “ older “ woman as a plus but it won’t work out fully because he won’t be able to have control over a older partner so it will fizzle out or cause a underlying tension in the relationship . With his moon in Leo though he tends to not fully vocalize these emotions because he doesn’t want to come off as insecure so he bottles up all his jealously until he basically snaps . But his chart is kind of a red flag if he doesn’t have a partner who will help him with his emotions personally I think he would best with a Leo , Gemini or cancer . He loves deeply and has extreme loyalty when in love which causes him to harbor a possessive/controlling nature . And when I mean controlling everything coming together it’s like he will have your location and will be checking it if you’re not answering him fast enough . Wants to know who where and why like he really needs a partner who makes him feel secure so he can evolve into a better partner and version of himself . Which makes sense bc when he was April he constantly had her at his side . Which is what he is looking for in a long term partner . He wants them to be smart and successful but he needs them to rely on him in some capacity more then a normal relationship dynamic . Also his chart seems to point out he very much will enjoy begin the breadwinner and want to fully financially take care of his partner because he loves them but it also feeds into his sense of control . Basically him begin in love with you isn’t for the weak . You will have to stand up for yourself/boundaries without upsetting him if you want to keep him . Because obviously ladies you should not let a man control you and your life no matter who he is . Also him begin the one to end things and go back to the same old hookups just feeds his nature to control what happens. He’s basically controlling the on and offs of hookups .
DAMN ANON I FEEL LIKE MY FRONTAL LOBE JUST DEVELOPED BY READING THIS, THANK YOU
Everything you've mentioned makes soooo much sense. I always felt like he would be so clingy, and a control freak in a relationship. He deffo wants his girl to be by his side and would loooove to take care of her financially. Like to have her rely on him is like the best, most masculine thing for him

Kyo and Momiji: interlude (part 3 of 5)
So, here are just some cute scenes from late S1/early S2 that also inform us of the nature of their relationship.
First, these gems from the Hiro episode.
Momiji immediately figures out what's going on when Hiro starts castigating Kisa for bringing the Mogeta DVD to Tohru instead of watching it with him. When Kisa expresses confusion, Momiji cheerfully says, "Hiro's being unreasonable!"
Soon after, we get this delightful moment:
Kyo: What the heck is going on? Momiji: You're so dense, Kyo. Kyo: Huh? Momiji: Hiro was jealous of Tohru. He's trying his best, but he's still a sixth grader. He's awkward about his feelings.
(cut to Kisa and Hiro talking, then back to our faves)
Tohru: Ah, so I was his romantic rival! Momiji: That's rough for you, Tohru! Kyo: Huh?
And later, when Tohru sentences Hiro to "hug penalty," Kyo's response is adorably telling.
Kyo: Seriously? How is that a punishment? Momiji: *giggles*
I mean, just look at Momiji's face when he calls Kyo dense! But also, it's extremely telling that Kyo trusts Momiji enough to ask him what's going on.
I think this interaction highlights the difference between their people skills. Kyo is good at getting a read on people; he can tell when someone's upset, when someone is genuinely happy, etc... but he may not always be able to verbalize what's at the core of their feelings. He immediately knows Hiro has done something to upset Tohru, but he can't make the leap to understanding it has anything to do with Kisa. I wonder how much of this was a survival/coping mechanism he picked up because of his status as the cat. He would need to be good at getting a quick read on people, especially his biological father, for his own safety.
Momiji, on the other hand, is very good at understanding the underlying things that drive people (knowing that Tohru values her mother when he wants to convince Tohru to go to the onsen, for example, or knowing that Hatori is really just trying to protect Tohru in Spring Comes, or- in this very scene- knowing that Hiro cares about Kisa more than anything), but either can't always tell when people are down and need to talk to someone, or just doesn't like giving space to negative emotions. I suspect this is because of his own traumatic childhood; he needed a narrative way to understand what his parents did, to empathize with them so he wouldn't hate them. He had time to reflect on and understand their perspective, even if it still hurts him.
Momiji uses his ability to understand people's driving forces to manipulate them (not necessarily a bad thing - he manipulates Hiro into apologizing to Tohru and returning her pocketbook by bringing Kisa into the situation, for example). Kyo uses his ability to read people in the moment to make sure his loved ones are safe and happy.
Something else I find interesting here is that the interaction between Kisa and Hiro is a bit of a microcosm of Kyo and Tohru's relationship, right down to Momiji's role as interpreter and catalyst. Momiji's the one who brings Kisa into the situation
Just a cute li'l brotherly moment between them in the episode where Tohru gets sick.
Here, Kyo, Tohru, Arisa, and Saki are planning for their Kyoto trip, and Kyo is being a grouch about having to spend time with Yuki. Momiji scolds him for focusing on that instead of the fact that he gets to spend time with Tohru (something we've seen Momiji scold Kyo for before).
Momiji: Kyo, you dumbo! You already get to go with Tohru! Don't be so selfish! Kyo: Oi. Momiji: I wish I could go with Tohru! I want to eat deer crackers with her! Arisa: Can't eat 'em. Momiji: Kyo, you don't wanna? You don't wanna do stuff with Tohru? Kyo: Idio- 'Course I- Saki: 'Course you-? Arisa: 'Course you-? Momiji: 'Course you-? Kyo: Yeah! This is exactly how you all mess with me! Arisa: It's out of love, I tell ya!
And this scene, after Mayu pours the bucket of water on Kyo and Haru, where Kyo scolds Tohru (again, one way he shows affection), Momiji translates for him/verbalizes Kyo's affection for Tohru again, and Kyo gets embarrassed (cuuuute).
Kyo: And you. Stay away from Haru if he turns dark. Tohru: Huh? Kyo: You can't be trusted not to get hurt. Tohru: O-oh, but that would be rude to Hatsuharu-san... Kyo: He's the one who's rude! Tohru: B-but that's- Kyo: Sheesh, you don't get it at all. Momiji: "I couldn't stand that happening!" is what Kyo wants to say, I'm sure. Tohru: Eh? Kyo: Momiji! Get outta here! Leave! Stop blabbing abou-
It's worth noting that Kyo's scolding Tohru because she could have gotten hurt, and he cuts himself off when he catches sight of his beads and is reminded that he once hurt Tohru, too. Tohru getting hurt is the worst possible outcome of any situation for him.
Just another cute brotherly moment complete with a big brother noogie from Kyo.
The scene where Momiji takes them to the haunted house is also a great little moment showcasing the different ways they show they love Tohru.
Momiji: Here! This is it! Wow, it looks like so much fun! Yuki and Kyo (internally): This... has gotta be... Momiji: So exciting! Let's go! Kyo: Hold your horses, kid! Yuki: Why don't we ask everybody if they want to enter first? Like Honda-san. Haru: She's speechless. Kyo: That means no. Let's go home. Momiji: Aw, Tohru, you can't? You're scared? Tohru: N-no! Well, if you ask if I'm scared, I would have to say I am! But they say that if you clear your mind of worldly thoughts, even fire doesn't feel hot! I can't keep avoiding it! Kyo: Actually, it's fine to avoid it. Tohru: I'm going to enter and show you I can! Go me!
Again, Momiji wants to do fun things with Tohru, while Kyo wants to protect her.
Inside the haunted house is hilarious, too. Yuki and Kyo are both exasperated by the other three, and both of them scold Tohru for closing her eyes or trying to laugh her way through (like Momiji). Kyo teases her, too, which is always delightful. When she falls, Kyo and Yuki both offer their hands, then immediately start fighting. Momiji takes her hand and scolds the two of them.
Momiji: Don't ignore a girl as you fight! It's a no-no! Kyo: Shut up, brat! Hurry and go! Yuki: He's right, though.
Momiji is again telling Kyo to worry less about his hatred for Yuki and more about his love for Tohru, which seems to be a recurring theme. Hmmmm....
Anyway, part 4 will be the beach arc! Hope you enjoyed reading!

Oh please give us your bg3 review IGN style
69/420 not enough gates
more genuinely (trying to keep this mostly spoiler free but there are a few for act 3 characters and brief discussion of the end of the game):
pros -
before you even see any of my petty complaints: bg3 GOTY no contest. i just have an opinion about everything on earth. okay let's keep going.
extremely well crafted characters and, in most cases, character arcs. fleshed out, feel real, feel lovable even though they are all so distinct. quality of character design and voice acting goes without saying. really powerful reflections on power and those who abuse it and the myriad of ways that power can be inflicted on others - on their bodies, on their minds, how it shapes them, how they can recover and heal from that.
wonderful attention to detail in almost every sense - storytelling, beautiful world, wonderful combat variety and interest save for a few standout "you just want this to be Hard so you put More Enemies In" exceptions, cool items, adventuring feels fun, there's plenty of secret things to discover.
just so fun to play and explore and exist in the world. if one beat isn't landing, there will be five more elsewhere that will. there is something to love for everyone in this game.
i was raised on forgotten realms rpgs and (obviously personal bias here) this scratched an itch so deep inside me that i hadn't realized was basically unfulfilled except for by a few rare exceptions. i loooooove a good fantasy rpg. baldur's gate 3 is a Really Good fantasy rpg.
i love you jaheira. if there's an old lady in a video game with a positive relationship to my pc that i can get emotionally attached to I Fucking Will.
dammon i also love you please call me, vesper, the real person. anathema the in-game player character can go do whatever she's gonna do but me and dammon should meet up. i wanted to be a blacksmith when i was 14 is that doing anything for you.
larian took the opportunity to play with some underlying assumptions that have been built into the world of d&d since it was created, most specifically "is there such a thing as inherent good or inherent evil". this is a very strong through-line, but it leads me into our next sectionnnn [drumroll]
cons -
no fat people. this is frankly just kind of embarrassing in a way that will make me incandescently angry if i think about it too long <3
pacing between acts is not the best. they wrote and built themselves into a corner with act 1 being the early access phase and i kind of wish they had been willing to Alter act 1 in a meaningful way to correct the rest of the game. this is probably my Biggest Core Complaint that has the largest leg to stand on. i'm not going to go into further detail because it requires extreme spoilers.
simplistic interaction with the concept of religion in a game world dominated by gods and their machinations.
unfortunately subject to many of the frustrating facets of the d&d multiverse. druid's relationship with nature vs. civilization. paladins in their entire. i could go on but this isn't really larian's fault, and they already were playing with...
the concept of intrinsic good/evil mentioned above AND the discussion of abuse/power/etc. - this was very interesting and powerful to me. the act structure pacing was kind of fucked up from inception. this all combined into what i felt like was a... Perfectly Fine but Honestly Weirdly Flat ending. it's serviceable. i will probably never think about it again until i replay the game. when i compare it to some other rpg game endings, it feels almost as though it's an afterthought, a thing to be checked off a list to say 'i'm done' - not a meaningful resolution to these questions and concepts they spent so much time and effort setting up. this is obviously my personal opinion and it probably landed differently to others, but i found myself feeling like the game had already ended with the resolution of actual core character dramas earlier in act 3, rather than the Actual ending. it didn't say anything important to me in a game that had already gone well out of its way to say MANY important things to me, and thus it felt very odd.
vesper's feeling petty category (ACTUAL WRITTEN-OUT SPOILERS) -
orin was my favorite of the chosen and i wanted her to be scarier and more of a genuine menace. the bhaal cult stuff was some of my favorite in the game but i wanted it to take a genuine detour into being a horror game for just a lil bitt
love the emperor specifically his extremely divorced energy with the pc. however. he spends the entire game constantly saying how much he hates the elder brain, how much he hated serving it. you can go out of your way to be kind to him, connect with him. he IS a bastard and i don't want to diminish that in any way, but i feel like the orpheus/emperor decision was nearly arbitrary in how it got resolved - binary switch, none of your repore-generation with yon emperor means Anything; he's spent all game manipulating you (in a nearly player-like fashion, might i add, which i thought was fun) and yet also is clearly attached in some fashion; you could argue that his apparent vulnerability and attachment was also just a manipulation tactic but i would have liked to be able to influence him for just a moment. a little reverse osmosis. we've been doing everything your way, babe, let's do it my way for once. AT THE VERY LEAST: why did he join the netherbrain. that just feels silly for his character. him throwing a fit and saying "FINE you can't fire me I QUIT" and fucking off would've still been better than going over to the netherbrain. imhco.
i liked durge soooo much but the reveal was a TAD too "oooooooh YOU'RE revan" for me.
i know i already wrote about this in the cons section but GOD the jumbled act pacing. this could be a full essay on that alone.
^^^ sorry one more sentiment about that. it kind of ruined the building of atmosphere in this game and that's so sad to me because i love Atmosphere more than almost any other game trait and when games pull it off? they become immortal inside of me.
there are clearly so many spots where something got cut and nothing filled the gap. in most cases it's tolerable; your brain can glide over it. in SOME cases it's so obvious that it becomes distracting and frustrating - the missing niece vampire in cazador's mansion, karlach and gale's companion quests Writ Large, yetcetra.
what the fuck is going on with halsin's writing. he's a delightful hunk of a man who doesn't seem to realize he's the stupidest druid alive who can't decide his actual philosophy one way or the other. not his fault. i just want to know what the hell happened there.
MISSING OWLBEAR CONTENT I WANT TO SEE MY BOY GROW UP BIG AND STRONG BUT HE JUST ARRIVED TO THE FINAL FIGHT ALREADY BIG???? I FEEL LIKE I MISSED MY BABY'S FIRST STEPS AND FIRST WORDS I FEEL LIKE THE WORST PARENT ON EARTH.
#bg3 tag#long post#genuinely love this game and also this is a safe space for kvetching#baldur's gate 3

Ep4: wwx's reign of terror <3
god the landscape shots for this show are so pretty
and so it begins....the hypocrisy here in the lan clan's claim to being above worldly things, but their willingness to accept such an indulgent, magnificent gift. lqr was looking very pleased when he saw this come out. the commentary on the core corruption and indulgence of the major sects who have such high values that they pretend to ascribe to starts early. the lan principles are good, on the whole, they just don't always practice what they preach. sects are human and imperfect constructions led by flawed individuals. this is why an ending where wwx and lwj leave the sects behind is so gratifying to me!
lan xichen was such a real one for this. I'd fall in love with him too. the subtext in this episode starts strong and never really lets up
I was going to mention how stupid wen chao is, and he is indeed foolish and arrogant, but his actions barely even matter. so what if he set the lan guard on fire and told lxc to his face that they're delivering someone? so what if he almost starts a fight in the receiving hall? he's untouchable. he's been taught that the wens can do anything at all and there are zero consequences for his actions. the lans won't dare discipline him, so he can be as insulting and aggressive as he wants. it's so jarring to see in this setting full of careful civility, ceremony, and respect. but something the show really hammers in is that the world exists outside the rules of etiquette and people can and will act against it for their own ends. politeness won't prevent violence and aggression must be confronted
wwx was indeed the only one to verbally confront wen chao, but in a fun little microcosm of several relationship dynamics, lwj was clearly ready to physically fight him. he stayed back because of lxc shaking his head, but if not for the restraint of his sect/family he would have backed wwx up in holding wen chao accountable and he probably would have been quicker to fight than wwx was this is so fucked up though bc the lans aren't even fighters. they're cultivators and scholars. they're not a fort like the nies, and they haven't been marshaling power like the wens. they have a few special guqin attacks but it's not a surprise that gusu was overrun
wwx is already lowkey obsessed and he's not used to being ignored bc he's handsome so he's all sulky and in denial about lwj not paying attention to him
life lessons from wwx: enjoy nature. seize the day. don't envy others. remember the good things in life. practice gratitude. drink and eat to your heart's content. go after that pretty boy <3
hellpp he went to try to touch it my boy is so impulsive
wwx acts out and plays around, and it must be frustrating that he doesn't behave, but jc tends to default to blaming wwx instead of holding other characters accountable for their equally poor behavior (jzx for being a dick, the lans for being inflexible and unreasonable, wen chao for being aggressive and inflammatory), or taking into account the situation or context. it seems like jc is hardly ever on wwx's side and never backs him up and I feel like people assuming jc is always in the right and his perspective on wwx is objectively correct need to keep in mind that he's also a young teenager deeply enmeshed in an incredibly complicated emotional/family situation, with high-stakes political and personal strings tied to his relationships with everyone in his family, and what he says about wwx does not necessarily reflect the objective truth or even his own feelings
HE CALLED JC A MANWHORE?? okay I stand by what I just wrote but goddamn, CR-era wwx really is a brat. at this stage in their dynamic he's giving as good as he gets despite their underlying issues and their inherent difference in status
this scene KILLS ME. no fish for jyl??? who MADE the rest of the dinner??? you want her to starve?? you bastards. such a stark visual reminds us that jyl isn't here to be her own person with her own wants, she's here to fill a role of bridging the gap between her brothers and making them play nice. they're acting like such children here
extremely funny to see characters passing notes, doodling, snacking in class, and putting 'kick me'-esque signs on the backs of their teachers robes. even though this is set in the past, some things are eternal. also I think the turtle is a gay joke. kind of homophobic of you, wwx
wwx just can't win! lqr was trying to catch him out in making a mistake, but wwx genuinely knows all this already. but even though he knows it all, he's still not allowed to be proud of himself. lqr wanted to punish him for his behavior and was trying to find a way to do it by criticizing his knowledge, but wwx (literal genius) just can't be stumped no wonder so many people don't like lwj while wwx appreciates him...most people have to study really hard to know this stuff and lwj just makes it look effortless to Be Perfect. but wwx is already at his level and so he doesn't resent him for his skills, he just disagrees with their application and lwj's conduct
you know what I just realized? wwx is approaching this like a survivalist. at his core he's practical and efficient and he'll do what he needs to in order to survive. this is the logic of a person who grew up starving on the streets and used whatever was available to make it out. of course the well-bred and wealthy cultivators are horrified and scandalized, whispering in shocked conversations about this evil technique. because they don't know what it's like to be that desperate
wen ning 🥺 he must have been so young when he died
this was honestly so gay. I don't ship ningxian but I think there was a little something there.
aww when lwj shows up, wwx has the BIGGEST smile we've seen all episode. look at that boy. he's like the sun
personal highlights: ep4
the show making it clear early on that this is a commentary on the society it depicts, and that the lans aren't perfect despite appearances
lwj ready to throw down with wen chao
lxc and meng yao's first meeting
wwx's guide to life

Sooo Lavinia? Thoughts? And if you could, is there anything you'd change about how they handled her character?
Ooh. Hm. Alright, full transparency, not the biggest Lavinia fan. And it's a shame really, because her route and her character did have a lot of great potential to it. My main issues were how the general plot with the flower charm felt recycled from Ezra's route (not the writer's fault, it likely wasn't planned for her to have a route at the time it was written), but it still felt kind of cheap. Also wasn't a fan of the way the lore and underlying plot of the series was glossed over. Yes, I'm aware that the purpose of Lovestruck was romance first, but when the rest of the routes focus a lot on the plot, having one that doesn't really makes it stand out in all the wrong ways. That and the way Lavinia was characterized left a lot to be desired. As an immortal powerful queen, you'd expect her personality to reflect that. However, throughout the route, she felt more like a whiny teenager going through a rebellious phase. Which sucks because again, she had so much potential. Still, I mean no disrespect towards Lavinia fans, she's clearly very popular so maybe it's just an us thing. But I'd much rather read Ezra's route, and I'm saying that as a lesbian lol
-Lightkeeper
I can appreciate how positioning a "villainous" character like Lavinia as a love interest helps us see the main cast from an opposing point of view, to showcase their flaws and a contrasting side to them, likely poising to make a statement on morality. It often was very entertaining to see everyone butt heads! I was really curious to see how she would have grown from villainous to perhaps virtuous, so I'm disappointed we'll never know now.
I have to agree with Lightkeeper in that a lot of Lavinia's route seems to borrow from Ezra's. Their relationship dynamics certainly resemble each other. Both began adversarial and argumentative, and through those arguments the LI warmed up once FMC earned their respect. Though Lavinia's feelings for FMC shift from respect into devotion when FMC proves she's a rare individual who extends her compassion and benefit of the doubt, and even faith in her ability to become a better person. EAA's overall theme of the transformative power of love rears its beautiful head once again. (At least, I hope I'm remembering their dynamic correctly.) Maybe upon closer reading, and a long overdue reread, of both routes, I'll be able to better appreciate the differences between Ezra's and Lavinia's romances.
Taken by itself, Lavinia's characterization was fun, as your sort of archetypal delinquent/bad girl hiding heartbreak this time with a fairytale twist, but it was sadly that—just sort of archetypal. Considering she's a centuries-old entity with fairy blood lacking a piece of her heart, I think it would've been really cool to see that reflect in the way she relates to and is seen by humans. Ethereal, whimsical, dangerous? Creepy and unsettling, imposing and mysterious and utterly alien. A force of nature rather than a petulant, brooding rebel without a cause. Anything to justify her fearsome reputation and the main cast's prejudice against her? (Unless that was based off nothing but hearsay, as it was with Ezra, which could have been the entire point! but that would undermine the theme of her story as outlined by her route summary)
Put simply, I wanted to see her character concept taken further, particularly her fae heritage, which would have made the route more fun for me in a few ways. This would have 1) more heavily foreshadowed the Titania twist and made the reveal more satisfying; 2) raised questions about nature vs nurture (after all, what is Lavinia's major?); 3) distinguished it more from Ezra's story, which is about a fundamentally good person whose reputation is smeared by a third party, and made it about someone whose bad reputation is deserved and who must earn her redemption; and 4) allowed us to witness a struggle to reconcile who Lavinia initially is with the image (FMC's image?) of an ideal partner, and from that starting point, watch her become that more suitable partner.
But this is a university setting, and a fluffy romance story. If molding the Ice Queen into a figure you'd be more likely to meet at university was the goal, then I would've liked to see some clearer justification for or exploration of why she's this emotionally stunted for an ancient queen. Something to do with her missing heart shard? Maybe that was coming down the pipe. Again, we'll never know.
Overall, I wasn't terribly fond, since I do have pretty specific tastes and I readily admit that I have my own strong biases. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone looking for a more wholly positive viewpoint! But I'm glad there are people who do love her.

WTW GHOST GALA ; days 1-8
a review of all this week's prompts!
day 1; pumpkin carving ↳ You have to kill off a character; who do you choose?
Without getting into spoilers, certain characters die within Burning of the Apiary. Seems unfair to use them to answer this prompt, and not just because they’re spoilers, but because it just feels too easy. I already accounted for the impact of their deaths in the plot so…
That being said, if I had to make another character die or swap one death out for the other, it would be Camila. Out of all the side characters, she represents life the most. She is fun-loving, and generally optimistic, which would make her death all that more bleak. That and, out of all the characters, she is least invested in the actual plot and mystery, happy enough to keep out of the whole issue. It certainly would affect Dolores a lot, since she is doing her best throughout Burning of the Apiary to keep the rest of the convent school safe from whatever is slowly poisoning their minds and relationships.
day 2; raven ↳ Create a tagline for your WIP.
Love the sinner.
I couldn’t think of a tagline at first, but then I remembered the whole Christian saying of “love the sinner, hate the sin” or whatever it is. I grew up Catholic, though this was never explicitly said; just implied. And it made me reflect on some personal things where that sort of ideology was present and the disastrous effects it had years down the line, especially when it comes to love in all forms. I thought it would be fitting for Burning of the Apiary because, ultimately, it’s about love and its destructive nature when tied to ideologies like that. In world, the religion might not be Catholicism, but it’s still highly dogmatic and devotion based.
day 3; crystal ball ↳ Outline a scene, act, or your entire WIP.
Set up my new outline document and started filling it in. Enjoy this preview of what I’m calling the sections so I know what goes where. Will I actually have a 5-act structure? Probably not. But it helps get my thoughts in order before I fix it up.
Act 1: The Arrival Act 2: The Meeting Act 3: The Initiation Act 4: The Kiss Act 5: The Sacrifice
day 4; fallen leaves ↳ Create a playlist for your WIP.
A few select songs from the Burning of the Apiary playlist:
in the beginning, fahrenhaidt & alice merton ; bee dance, agnes obel ; the disappearance of the girl, phildel ; if the world falls to pieces, young summer ; destroyer, of monsters and men
day 5; jack o' lantern ↳ Share an interesting fact you found while doing research for your WIP.
While researching bees, I found out that there is a type of moth that acts as a predator/invasive species to bees. The wax moth, both lesser and greater, eats beeswax, pollen, remains of larval bees, and more. However, the most interesting fact is that they often only target hives that are already diseased or declining. They’re a great indicator of underlying problems in a bee colony.
I thought this was cool and they may or may not make an appearance in Burning of the Apiary.
day 6; vampire ↳ Tell us where you find your motivation and inspiration.
I find most of my inspiration from other types of media I consume, including movies, tv shows, and, of course, books. Even photos and the rare hike I take give me inspiration. I think part of being a creative person is finding inspiration anywhere and everywhere, and that’s very true with me.
Burning of the Apiary is one of those WIPs I’ve had on the backburner for a while, and I’ve tried writing it several times. The original inspiration was a mix of a few dreams I had written down and Coraline. Since then, it’s evolved to pull more inspiration from the classic gothic novels I read (and loved) in high school college, most notably Villette and Jane Eyre, along with Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth and Crimson Peak, mixed with whatever I find cool and want to throw in there.
day 7; skeleton ↳ Have a favorite plot structure? If not, share how you plot!
My way of plotting is sort of throwing things and seeing what sticks. I tend to get ideas very piecemeal and random –– a scene or piece of dialogue or character. This can make it difficult to plot sometimes, which is why my outlines tend to be written, rewritten, and then usually tweaked even during the writing process.
I’ve tried several plot structures, like the 3-Act, 7-Act, and Save the Cat method. None of them quite worked out for me, but I took pieces here and there to figure out a general plot, or at least plan major beats and fill in everything in between. Knowing the genre is always the most important for me, though, since certain plot points are “standard” for genres (and for good reason). Plus, the better I know the genre, the easier it is to choose what rules actually apply to my WIPs. For Burning of the Apiary, I definitely researched and read a lot of horror and mystery novels to familiarize myself with genre-plot conventions and beats (and also found some new favorites). It’s been fun and I’ll be using that to figure things out!
day 8; trick or treat ↳ Set some writing goals and milestones for your WIP.
the overall goal for Burning of the Apiary is about 80-90k, so I am trying to get at least half of that done during NaNoWriMo. we'll see.

Unit 10: My Experience in Nature Interpretation
As the semester and our blog posts come to an end, I’m left feeling very reminiscent after reading the introduction to everyone’s blog posts this week! When I first decided to take this course, it was at the recommendation of one of my roommates who had taken it last year. I needed an elective to add onto my course load and she described her experience in the course and how much she enjoyed it as an Ecology major. I will admit, I was skeptic at first as she explained the weekly blog posts on Tumblr but to my delight, they ended up being a nice way to reflect on my relationship with nature. As I learned over the course of the last 10 weeks what is considered a nature interpreter, I realized that I’ve indirectly been one for a while now. From simpler ways when I was younger such as relaying a fun fact about an animal I had learned at school to my parents, to being the person communicating interesting animal facts to kids of the same age! It took me a few weeks in this course to realize that I had spent an entire summer working as a nature interpreter at the Toronto Zoo through the role of a camp counsellor. My job was to interpret facts about the animals living at the zoo to expand the knowledge of my campers, and also include some environmental concepts as well. This taught me so much about nature interpretation firsthand, and I didn’t even know until 2 years later that this is considered a form of interpretation!
After reading the questions within the prompt this week, I decided to first reflect on my time as an unknown interpreter to see what beliefs, responsibilities and approaches I had used before this course. I found that honesty was an extremely important factor that I tried to incorporate with my audience, especially with a young audience as kids can be very curious. I find this is an extremely important quality for an interpreter of any kind to possess, as honesty leads to further education and interest. Although with kids this can be tricky as sometimes they aren’t ready for the full truth of some topics, it is still important to understand what truth they can handle. An example of this from my time working at the zoo revolves around ecophobia. Ecophobia is essentially the worry over environmental degradation or destruction and can be extremely taxing on one’s mental health. While it is important to educate an audience on the effect of humans or climate change on an area, species, or the planet in general, ecophobia is something to consider when deciding what information to relay to kids. If the conversation becomes too gloomy or depressing for a group of 5-year-olds, this in my opinion is an unsuccessful interpretation. The experience should be informative and honest, but not lead to feelings of helplessness or depression. This leads to my next biggest responsibility of a nature interpreter which is having an overall message or purpose to your interpretation.
As this is nature interpretation, I’ll be talking about interpretating biological concepts specifically, although this responsibility still applies in general. When I think of interpreters of nature, I envision anyone who discusses a natural phenomenon, landscape, species of animal or plant or even an interaction that occurs in the wild. While these can all be explained to an audience for the simple purpose of being entertaining, I think there has to be a reason as to why the interpreter is educating others on these themes. Education is typically one of the most common reasons, although there are many other reasons as well. My personal time at the zoo also had a reasoning, and it was to educate the kids on amazing animal species and the things they do. It was an important responsibility to me that I often tied together any fun facts with some kind of educational factor, such as conservation for example. Having an underlying message like this can help the interpreter tie their conversation together towards the end, and can help them be better in general as they understand the importance of their job.
The approach that I found the most suitable was through having a solid understanding of your information and also being passionate or enthusiastic about it. These two factors go hand in hand and while an individual can be one without being the other, a good interpreter ensures they are both. Being knowledgeable about the topic you are discussing may seem like an obvious responsibility, but it was something that always stuck out to me on days where I felt like I wasn’t being the best interpreter I could be. There were days at the zoo when a member of the public would see me with my campers, wearing a staff uniform and approached me with a question about one of the species. While I was taught a great deal of information on the animals residing at the zoo, it was all at the level of my audience and therefore not always suitable for an adult. There was one day when a parent had approached me while I was working and asked how much an adult orangutan weighs. This was not something I knew off the top of my head, as 5-year-olds wouldn’t typically remember or care about this type of information, I told them I honestly wasn’t sure. They were understanding, thanked me anyways, and moved on with their day but I remember feeling annoyed at myself as an interpreter for not knowing the answer. While this is something that often is inevitable as no one knows the answer to every question that could be asked of them, as an interpreter it can be frustrating. Ensuring that I know as much information about the topic as possible was my best approach to avoid this as well as understanding that there will always be questions that you might not know the answer to! Lastly, being passionate is one of my best approaches to nature interpretation and something that benefitted me greatly. Audiences can tell when someone is actually interested and enthusiastic about something, and it makes it much easier to enjoy and pay attention to. Personally this came very easy to me as I have always loved talking about things I’m interested in and animals happen to be one of my biggest passions! I found this made it more enjoyable for my audience as well as myself and is definitely something I would suggest to future nature interpreters.
Thank you all for reading my posts, I hope you enjoyed it just as much as I did reading yours! Good luck to everyone with the rest of their courses this semester!

You might find yourself wondering whether you’re experiencing healthy conflict—the kind that strengthens your relationship—or unhealthy conflict that drives a wedge between you and your partner. Healthy conflict often leads to constructive dialogue, whereas unhealthy conflict can spiral into criticism, contempt, defensiveness, or stonewalling—elements identified by psychologist John Gottman as predictors of divorce. Recognizing the difference is crucial. Healthy conflict offers an opportunity for growth and learning, serving as a catalyst for change and understanding. When handled correctly, conflicts can enhance intimacy and both partners’ emotional responsiveness. Identifying the Underlying Issues To navigate through disagreement effectively, it’s important to identify the real underlying issues at hand. Sometimes, you may argue about the grocery list, but the tension could stem from unresolved feelings about your division of labor at home. Diving deeper into the core issues allows for more meaningful conversations and solutions. Keywords Reviewed Understanding the complexities of issues in a marriage can reframe how you view crises and conflicts. Equipped with this knowledge, you can start positioning these challenges as catalysts for improvement. Practical Tips and Strategies Embrace Open Communication Open communication is the foundation of a strong marriage. When conflicts arise, approach them as opportunities for discovery. Encourage open dialogue by practicing active listening. This means not just hearing your partner’s words but actually engaging with their feelings and perspectives. Ask clarifying questions and paraphrase what they’ve said to ensure you fully understand their point of view. Example: If a fight erupts over household chores, instead of shouting, “You never help out!” try framing it as, “I feel overwhelmed with the chores, and I would really appreciate your help.” This presents an invitation for good communication rather than an accusation. Setting Boundaries During Conflict While conflict is healthy, it’s essential to set boundaries to prevent escalation. Agree with your partner on rules for fighting fair. This might include avoiding personal attacks, using “I” statements, and taking breaks if things get too heated. Example: If your discussions often go late into the night and end in unresolved feelings, you could agree to stop
the conversation if it goes past a certain hour, ensuring both partners are well-rested when the conversation continues. Focus on Solutions, Not Problems Shifting your mindset from problem-centered thinking to solutions-focused brainstorming can change the nature of conflict discussions. Instead of dwelling on who is at fault, collaborate to find a pathway forward. Actionable Tip: When conflicts arise, create a list of possible solutions together. This transforms the situation from a blame game to a teamwork exercise. Practice Forgiveness and Letting Go Conflict often resurfaces past grievances, leading to a cycle of unresolved issues. Learning to forgive and truly let go can break this cycle. Example: If you had an argument about money, but last year’s financial indiscretions come up again, it can hinder progress. Make a conscious choice to forgive and focus on moving forward together. Keyword Considerations Using these tips and strategies in your marriage can help reconsider conflicts as catalysts for a more harmonious relationship. Real-Life Examples Anne and Mark: Turning Arguments into Insight Anne and Mark had been married for seven years, and while they loved each other deeply, they often clashed over issues of finances. Mark was more of a spender, while Anne preferred saving. After a particularly heated argument about a last-minute vacation purchase that Mark made, they decided to investigate their attitudes toward money. Through open conversations, they discovered that Anne’s frugality stemmed from her family’s financial struggles, while Mark’s spending came from a desire to create joyful, spontaneous experiences. By understanding these underlying feelings, they managed to forge a compromise that respected both perspectives. They established a budget for spontaneous outings, which satisfied Mark’s desire for adventure while keeping Anne comfortable. Their crises led to profound insights about each other's backgrounds, hopes, and dreams. Julia and Sean: Learning to Compromise Julia and Sean were another couple with a penchant for frequent arguments—largely about parenting choices. They found themselves in an exhausting cyclical debate over whether to be more lenient or strict with their children. One day, after a particularly heated discussion, they decided to take a step back. They realized each person's upbringing influenced their parenting philosophy. Julia wanted to give their child more freedom because she craved independence as a child, whereas Sean had grown up with more structure and wanted to provide that stability. They started having weekly family meetings, bringing the kids into the conversation to discuss rules and boundaries collectively. This compromise led to a more harmonious home environment, as everyone felt heard. Overcoming Challenges Navigating Difficult Emotions Sometimes, conflicts unearth difficult emotions such as resentment, fear, or insecurity. Processing these feelings can be a barrier to resolving disputes. Solution: Consider working with a couple's therapist who can guide you through intricate emotions while providing tools to navigate them. Fear of Vulnerability Opening up during conflicts may feel daunting; the fear of being misunderstood or rejected can stem from prior experiences. However, consider that vulnerability is the gateway to intimacy. Sharing your true feelings can create a safe environment for your partner to do the same. Example: During an argument, you might feel tempted to shut down. Instead, express your fears or worries. Phrases like “I’m afraid this is a bigger issue” can help surface underlying concerns that you might not have articulated. Time Constraints In today’s busy world, finding time to discuss conflicts can be a challenge. When both partners work full-time and manage a household, conflicts can feel rushed and unresolved. Solution: Schedule regular check-ins to discuss smaller issues before they turn into conflicts. This also ensures that both partners dedicate time to work on the relationship.
Keywords Reviewed While conflicts can naturally lead to complex situations, overcoming these challenges can turn potential crises into valuable catalysts for marriage strengthening. Conclusion The notion of "Crisis or Catalyst" reminds us that marriage is not always smooth sailing, and that’s perfectly normal. Navigating conflict can be daunting, yet it offers unique opportunities for growth, understanding, and ultimately, a stronger bond. Remember, conflict doesn’t define your marriage. Instead, it's how you choose to approach these conflicts that will determine the health of your relationship. Through open communication, setting boundaries, focusing on solutions, practicing forgiveness, and finding time to check in with each other, you can turn arguments into a pathway for deeper intimacy and connection. Take heart: Facing conflict together can lead to a more profound understanding of each other, with love standing as the foundation. Here’s to embracing conflict as a necessary ingredient in the recipe for a successful marriage—one that can transform crises into catalysts for love, trust, and partnership. Through these practical steps and insights, may you embrace conflict as an opportunity for growth rather than a hurdle in your marriage journey. With the right tools and approach, you can indeed turn every crisis into a catalyst for an even stronger union.

I have not had many good thoughts today, 16 July 2024. Or rather, the bad thoughts have drowned them out. I only just a few minutes ago was able to think free of those distractions. Why must this be so difficult emotionally? I feel abused, and I hate that feeling because it reflects an attitude which I don’t want to see reflected at me in SBE2.
Example is I was walking along when I suddenly realized decimal expansion is SBE3+1, meaning that we count SBE in 3 axes. That generates grid squares sheet and gsCubes or gsBoxes within D3-4//4-3. That last part means these permutations generate into these forms in D3-4. You can see the D4-3 part in the permutations which don’t idealize or otherwise fit.
Not sure how this fits, but I found myself thinking about how abelian fits within non-abelian as counting layers. As in, you give money to a bank, and then you get it back is abelian because it rewinds. But the process underneath is its own process, not a reversal, so that layer is non. The importance of this seemingly commonplace observation is that it underlies how we repair things. Like a bridge can be built with great sturdiness or so ramshackle you marvel it works. Both work in their contexts, meaning there’s a continuity, which is another idea I stumbled over today - and couldn’t do anything with because I was so irritated. A continuity is what transfers the character and nature of something over an Extent.
You can think of this as something encoded in one step, then crossing some count, then decoding. There must be a continuity, but how does that work? How does that message work? The answer is the connection is in Triangular over gs, so the message encodes and traverses the 3rd End, which is orthogonal to D3-4//4-3 Things. To explain orthogonal to D3-4//4-3, think tangent to any presentation or portion. And thus you can see the I//I operation is the aligning of those tangents so they meet.
Think how that works with a Thing field. It says that 0Space communication encodes what processes through the 3rd End in Triangular, across the Extent generated by or within that Triangular, which is itself context dependent in D-structure. The communication decodes SBE2, and 2SBE2. Just picture an fD, and the 3rd Ends are B, so in 0Space, the relationship identifies as the Irreducible draws. That process is frozen in an image. Both Irreducibles appear so the image of a gs generates, thus idealizing the connection.
SBE counts the 1-0-1 model, and that directly makes gs and relates Things through Triangular over gs. That’s not clear. I mean that various Things, which are tObjects and iObjects, relate to various Triangulars. We can say that a Triangular exists for you, and it has within it all the outcomes of you.
That’s a really cool image: I see the idea of fCM generating to specific counts along the szK, and how that relates to filling those patterns, and thus how these patterns construct, for good or bad because this is idealizing the process not the outcomes.
The nagging voice in my head says how do gs translate into tObject physicality? I’m seeing it in motion but I can’t render it in words. Try again. I see a simplified level at which the count is of tObjects, meaning of the D3-4 structures which are Things. So an interaction between any 2 scales, with the tObjects moving closer and farther apart, and then in gsSpace. I have to remember to use that rather than writing out the I//I of D3-4//4-3.
The relation maps to 0Space as root2, but we already knew that. See Bell’s inequality, etc.
I’m very tired. It was 98 today. Went to the gym for the 10th straight day. Doing leg curls and my left would easily complete the move at 25 or 30lbs, while the right could almost complete at 15 and could at 10. I enjoy these machines because they require technique. When you do the move correctly, you can put the weight directly where it needs to be. So I do a v-squat because I can isolate the movement to the hinging of my knee.
Need to sleep.
