it's like, i really do enjoy most of the bats as characters and i really do like a lot of their comics. but also i am sooooo tired of them being hailed as better than literally everyone else. both in fanon but also in comics (modern ones are esp egregious imo, like WHAT was that shit about batman and the joker being the most dangerous men on the planet. hi. have you heard of lanterns? speedsters? supers? actually if i keep listing groups who could kick batman's ass we'd be here all day). they're like kudzu. that shit needs to stay in its native environment (funky little neo-noir detective stories) and stop being an invasive species (putting down everyone else to make them seem cooler). put bruce wayne back into a murder mystery setting that isn't about saving the world but is about saving one person or one family that no one else would've saved right now or so help me god. the whole invasive species cross contamination thing is unhealthy for both him And the other ecosystems he keeps getting transplanted into. please. it's so dark in here

There is currently a rather large discussion ongoing about the RW fandom behavior, drama, etc. I am not going to talk about the specifics of whats happened for a number of reasons. But what I do want to say is that if at any point you've harassed people over it, whether that be through anon asks or public posts- you did nothing but damage the ability for people to correctly process what is happening. You contributed nothing but harm to an already delicate situation. It does not matter what "side" you were on and I will not tolerate further interaction with me or my work if I found out you did such. If you let your personal hate for anyone boil over into threats, wishes for long term harm and petty comments meant to contribute nothing but slander or mental distress for the individuals involved who were already distressed (or acting irrationally) you did nothing but make it harder for people to process their emotions, thoughts and behaviors constructively. Regardless of who you think was in the right, who fucked up, whatever. It doesn't matter if they deserved it, or earned it, or if its an eye for an eye. Its difficult enough as it is to think clearly when presented with any kind of stressful situation and heckling people does nothing but make it worse and harder for them to explain themself in any capacity. I don't want you anywhere near me if you think that is an acceptable way to act.

No matter how many times it happens, I'm always shocked by how reliably all my problems with any given story are solved by making it shorter. If I go into a story with the idea that it'll be long, that I should use as much detail as I want to craft a full-length and fully-fleshed-out story instead of a short one, it always turns into this rambling, meandering, soulless thing that's no fun to read, and I get tangled up in so many flimsy, sprawling layers of character and worldbuilding that the plot becomes unworkable.

The minute I tell myself, "Let's make this as short as possible," the problems fall away, I find the heart of the story again, the pacing is brisk, scenes get multiple purposes, the world feels deeper because I'm implying things that spark the reader's imagination rather than trying to put every threadbare, boring detail on the page. Every time. You'd think I'd have learned by now.

Okay, so. Silly idea but bear with me. Typical time travel/reset fic idea.

Lucanis and Rook de Riva are engaged, they're clearing house of traditionalists and the kind of folks who would ally with the Venatori in the Crows, they are securing Lucanis's legacy as a reformist First Talon. Something dramatic happens. Possibly one of them or the other is dying or close to death. The world is ending. Wild magic. Somehow this results in time travel. You know how this trope works.

Rook and Lucanis both wake up in their respective Houses a decade younger. No one around them has any idea what they're talking about when they reference their present the future. Viago thinks Rook has had a poor reaction to some poisonous fumes she just saved one of the Fledglings from and gets all worked up about it. Lucanis is doing his best to hide Spite, who is also somehow back in time with him, and Caterina thinks he's having some sort of breakdown or has had a head injury.

They both end up confined and anxious for a while, trying to figure out what happened, draw up the lay of the land, and make a plan. But Spite is desperate to go find Rook, and Lucanis is terrified she won't remember them, that everything he gained, he will've lost.Rook is feeling the same, and also Viago is getting suspicious that she's so interested in the Dellamortes.

Finally, finally though, a meeting is arranged. Arsinoë tails Viago to one of the Talon's meetings, and Caterina has brought Lucanis to try and teach him some of the family business.

Their eyes meet across the room.

"Rook?" Lucanis asks, almost too softly to be heard in the bustle of the Talons gathering themselves to head towards the meeting chambers.

And Rook smiles. Lucanis's heart leaps at it, and it's all he can do to hold Spite back from spreading their wings and shouting.

Once the important people are off elsewhere, they find a convenient alcove or closet somewhere and instantly, there are hands on waists and lips meeting. Possibly the hint of relieved tears. Crows be damned, this is their partner, and they've been so worried.

When enough kisses have been gathered for the moment, Rook presses a hand to Lucanis's cheek, and although she doesn't say anything, he laughs. "I promise to start working on it, mi amor."

"I didn't say anything!"

He rolls his eyes fondly. "I promise, I will work on the beard. It... might take some time." He feels her laughter against his chest, pressed closed as she is, and catches her hand in his, rubbing a thumb across the back of her knuckles.

Suddenly, her gaze goes quiet and thoughtful as she looks at the back of their intertwined fingers, at the smooth band on her left hand, rough runes etched in silver and no stone to be seen.

"Lucanis...I think this means we just restarted the clock on the wedding."

A pause as this fully sinks in.

"... Mierda."

All of those months waiting, with Teia planning the aesthetics, Viago drawing up strategies for the most opportune and least dangerous times for the ceremony (which aren't the same), and Caterina and Viago both negotiating the contracts and dowries, dragging on for what felt like an eternity...

...and now, not only is all of that time lost, all of the preparations for naught, but they are now both in their twenties and presumably unacquainted, with protective older Talons watching their every move and no garnered reputations to give their own words weight.

The timer has not just reset on the wedding, it has been shattered and delayed by several calendars.

Spite growls in the back of Lucanis's mind. He buries his face in Rook's shoulder with a groan of his own.

"I am going. To kill them. All of them. Whoever's responsible. Mierda."

"I know, love. I'll help."

So, lore?

Lo'en is a half elf and across the world there are designated elven kingdoms. One of them! Where she was born and her mother (elf) still lives, is frigid and in the north. Humans still have an odd tradition for Santa and so she hides her slightly pointed ears so that she doesn't have to sit through ANOTHER "Saint Nick" story that the northern elf king refuses to be offended by. His name is Niklava and he rather LIKES the association of how giving the cold can be! Lo'en could easily live without hearing another comment about ol' Saint Nick and his elves though.

Hold, while technically human/mortal, is cursed to live life over and over. And he has plant/green powers. He gets a lot of the "oh you'll grow up to be fine one of these days!" "you're still a sprout in this life time" "you still have time to bloom then!" and he also hates it.

Because Hold has to continue living even after he dies (though his body regresses to a child like age as he "recovers from death") he's absolutely enamored with Lo'en who just continues to exist. Her life span is way longer than a humans, longer than his /should/ be. And he admires her a lot and is really grateful to have her around for so many of his lives lived. Lo'en is relieved to have someone she gets along with who won't die and leave her forever. He dies, sure, but he gets better.

Lo'en meets Hold first while during one of his sister's dead phases so that's why the two are much closer than Lo'en is to Hold's sister. The two girls do help keep Hold safe when he's dead but they aren't super best friends or anything.

hot take moment cwilbur is literally just psychotic as all hell and i think people got way too comfortable villianizing the shit out of a man who was clearly portraying signs of severe mental illness. cwilbur was like im so fucking paranoid and scared and i think everyone is out to get me and hurt me and ive spiralled to the point i cant reach out to the people closest to me because im so afraid and lost in this spiral and im having constant panic attacks and hurting myself because i dong know what to do with myself and the only way out for me is to die. and everybody was like EVIL MAN WHO ENJOYS HURTING OTHERS AND IS ABUSIVE ON PURPOSE AND A VILLAIN AND SHOULD NEVER BE TRUSTED AGAIN. and then he came back and was like im still deeply troubled and afraid but im desperately trying to make up for the wrongs i did in the past and the people i hurt in my own way and communication is really hard for me but i hope people know that im truely sorry and i love them. im going to try my hardest to fix this in the only way i know how and then respectfully remove myself from the situation because i feel thats the kindest thing i can do to the people ive hurt. and people were like ABUSER ABUSER ABUSER EVIL MAN ABUSER. like girl

I'd hope I manage to portray Wilbur the way he deserves in my content, cause that man is heavily bpd coded and he just needs therapy and someone who genuinely loves him but also can handle his bullshit (which has exclusively and reliably been Quackity like, canonically)
