My boyfriend (26M) and I (22F) cannot get a second alone!

The two of us have been together for a few years now. We met through mutual friends and really hit it off. He’s caring, thoughtful, and we have the best time together.

The issue is ... his best friend (26M) is ALWAYS around. And I mean always. We’ll be out to dinner and bestie will show up and pull up a chair. We’ll be cuddling on the couch watching Netflix and he’ll let himself in with the spare key and wedge between us. I swear this guy is like an overeager puppy sometimes.

The other day I came home with my boyfriend and bestie was there ... sleeping on MY side of the bed because he “got lonely” at his place. And don’t get me started on trying to plan a vacation for just the two of us. Without fail, bestie always finds out where we are and shows up.

I’m happy they’re so close and I’d never want to get between them or ask my boyfriend to pick. But his best friend is starting to feel like a third wheel in our relationship. I jokingly said to my boyfriend that at this rate, bestie will be part of our engagement and marriage too!

I could really use some outside advice. How do I kindly set some boundaries with my boyfriend’s overly-attached best friend? I want all of us to still be friends but the constant third-wheeling is getting to be a bit much.

Wow, this sounds really annoying and awkward! Hate to say it but your boyfriend needs to step up and set some better boundaries with his friend. As close as they may be, it’s not ok for him to let his friend crash your alone time constantly. It’s disrespectful to you and your relationship. If your bf won’t address it, you’ll have to be the “bad guy” and talk to the friend directly to give him a reality check.

I feel you, OP! My sister deals with this with her husband’s best friend too. They even joked that the friend would be IN the delivery room when they have kids one day 😳 She finally sat down with her husband and told him that while she cares about the friend, she needs some lines drawn for their marriage’s sake. Maybe suggest setting one or two date nights a week that are just for you two? And no dropping in unannounced! Compromise is key.

This behavior would drive me CRAZY! You need to put your foot down with your bf and tell him his friend’s constant presence is affecting your relationship. Then talk to the friend together to make it clear you just need some alone time as a couple sometimes. If they don’t respect reasonable space, it will breed resentment.

Help! My best friend (26M) is cockblocking me without even realizing it!

I (26M) have been together with my girlfriend (22F) for a few years. She’s awesome — fun, hilarious, and crazy sexy. She puts up with my quirks and even likes watching sports with me. Absolute keeper!

The problem is, my best friend has NO boundaries. I love him like a brother but he has zero concept of personal space or alone time.

Just last night, my girl and I were enjoying some long overdue freaky time together, when who bursts through the bedroom door unannounced? Yep, my best friend. Turns out he “accidentally” made copies of my keys ages ago.

Before I can react, he’s jumped onto the bed between us asking what we’re up to. My girlfriend was mortified and hurried to cover up. There went the mood for the rest of the night thanks to Captain Cockblock!

That’s just the latest in a long string of intrusions. Double dates, surprise sleepovers in OUR bed, you name it. I’m going to have to lock down the apartment Fort Knox style to get any intimacy!

Don’t get me wrong, I would take a bullet for my best friend. But how do I politely tell him that constant third-wheeling is killing my game and giving me the most painful blue balls known to man? Is there a tactful way to set some boundaries so we BOTH stay sane and satisfied?

Your friend needs better boundaries yesterday. Sit him down, tell him you get he’s lonely but he can’t just walk in whenever, especially when sexy times are happening! Maybe suggest setting him up on some dates so he finds fulfillments elsewhere.

Don’t feel bad about setting some hard boundaries, even if it bruises his ego at first. True friends will understand. Explain you just need some regular alone time with your gf. Offer a standing weekly bro night to keep the friendship intact too. You need to have that balance!

AITA for wanting to spend time with my best friend and his girlfriend?

Some background — my friend (let’s call him M) and I go way back to childhood. We’re basically as close as brothers. A few years ago he started dating his now serious girlfriend (we’ll call her Y).

Initially, I’ll admit I was worried M would drift away and our bromance would fade. But much to my delight, Y is awesome! She likes the same sports, laughs at my jokes, and comes to watch our competitions. Honestly it feels like I gained a sister!

Naturally, the three of us started hanging out constantly. I know me and M have always valued bro time together. But now Y joins our gaming sessions, I ride along on their date nights often, and I will even crash in their guest room after late nights! It’s been pretty great.

Or so I thought? Lately I’ve noticed them acting strange and tense around me. They barely react when I barge into their room or surprise them by their cars after work. Sometimes they pretend to be “busy” if I try making plans last minute.

I can’t figure out why though? Just the other day, I popped by to say hi only to have M rather sternly tell me I should “call before visiting from now on.” And I could swear I heard Y whisper about needing “boundaries” … whatever that means!

I’m starting to feel hurt they suddenly seem fed up with me! AITA here? Am I missing something? Someone help me decode these mixed signals!

YTA. I know you value your friendship but your total lack of boundaries is overbearing. Your friend is trying to set reasonable limits without damaging the friendship but you’re oblivious to all hints. Surprising them and inviting yourself along all the time is inconsiderate. Give them space!

Soft YTA. I get you cherish the bromance and her friendship too. But constantly crashing date nights, unannounced visits, etc is cockblocking to the max! They likely feel too awkward to bluntly tell you that they need alone time too sometimes. Tone down the clinginess before you do permanent damage!

Wallpaper Converted From: Animal Crossing: New Horizons for The Sims 2 and The Sims 3

Today we celebrate the 4th anniversary of Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Oh, and my 4th anniversary of being on tumblr! This set includes over 300 wallpapers for The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. I will most likely do a Sims 4 version in the future, as that game would require me to create 2 more textures per wallpaper, because it has 3 wall heights, so I'll need more time to make them. Sick and tired of people spreading nonsense about one of my favourite characters and denigrating the pre-crisis version of him, so I'm starting an education campaign about his character traits, particularly the ones going back to the silver age!

Silver age Lex did actually try to be a hero in Smallville, but it went wrong and he gave up. It wasn't about losing his hair (though later stories did make that conflation). But Lex occasionally doing heroic things was a theme throughout this era.

9/4/2009 Wheel Spin: Long Pesterlog Verdict: Dave Should Pester John About This

Not much actually happens in these pages, just picking things up and putting them down, so I re-read all Dave’s POV sections so far to experience his uninterrupted slow descent into puppet madness. And it was actually very enlightening and is probably a good way of re-reading for character development/analysis now that character switches are happening so regularly.

But today I was just trying to figure out how the fuck hash map works.

Dave brags to John a couple times about being a super hardcore genius sylladex user, and he’s exaggerating, but not totally lying. As well as already having his strife specibus allocated, on p.576 he does a smooth box catch after seeing the fireworks ejected out the corner of his eye, and on p.579 he shows off by intentionally ejecting and then dodging about ten shurikens. Even though there’s way easier ways he could have accomplished that – such as GENTLY GATHERING (5) the shurikens to free up card 5, then taking the box.

Except, it makes sense if we assume Dave is practicing. In the past we’ve seen Dave mess with his sylladex in his room and in the bathroom, but this is the first time he’s used it in the public areas of the house – and with the Dude Dodge and demonstrations of using different words for the same item and dealing with collisions, it’s almost like he’s putting on a performance. On p.386, he tells John: ‘you should look into weaponizing your sylladex. my bro is always getting on my case about it but man its not as easy as it sounds.’

We’ve now learned that Dave’s bro stocks the kitchen with weapons, which could be there specifically for sylladex practice. Dave’s bro, who it’s been implied also uses hash map, could have been practicing the shuriken-dodge maneuver for years, to use if he ever gets into a real fight. (Or is there a league? Is sylladex usage a sport and Dave’s bro is like a former high school football player who’s trying to train up a younger family member to relive their glory days)?

These kitchen violence pages pair well with Dave reading the Midnight Crew on p.329-331. ‘A familiar feeling stirs. That feeling is overwhelming, soul-blackening rage. It's the sort of rage that'll make a man feel totally justified in sporting an unnecessarily elaborate assortment of fancy blades’ is a line referring to Spades Slick, but Dave lives with a man who sports an unnecessarily elaborate assortment of fancy blades, so I wonder what soul-blackening rage Bro is feeling and why. It makes me think about how a hyperviolent character in a piece of media can be very fun and likeable, but that same trait in a real person, especially one you live with, is terrifying, and certainly gets different reactions from Dave.

Page 585 shows some different options for hash map point scoring, and I wonder which is most user friendly. Scrabble points is fun, but only helpful if you’ve memorized the Scrabble score system. 2-point consonants and 1-point vowels, which Dave has been using, is pretty easy to calculate numbers for, but certain cards seem like they come up a lot more than others. A short, 3-5 letter word will probably occupy cards 5 through 9, and it gets harder to fill up those low numbered cards when calculating in a hurry. The system where A=1, B=2, C=3, etc, probably solves that issue, but involves working with much bigger numbers, which (if playing TTRPGs has taught me anything) lots of people struggle with. A good hash map needs to be easy to calculate and leave items naturally well distributed among cards.

The most effective hash map, I think, wouldn't depend on function but would have a standard set of 20-30 items that you regularly captchalogue and know the values for, along with ways of retrieving them. So when leaving the house, I could have my KEYS in card 6 and use them to OPEN the front door, plus my WALLET in card 0 to EXCHANGE MONEY for goods and services, but when I go home I can switch them out for a BAKING TRAY (6) that I could use to COOK dinner, and a LAPTOP (0) to easily BROWSE the internet. (If I wanted to leave the house with my laptop, I could captchalogue it as a PORTABLE DEVICE (2) for SURFING THE WEB). Getting to know these items really well, and the ways they might be used as weapons, would probably be way easier than just figuring it out as you go.

Of course, when losing a sylladex battle, you can just hit that eject button for a near guaranteed win. It’s possible this counts as a forfeit or is just bad conduct, but with a sylladex full of shurikens it might just be worth it. ‘detect collisions,’ in this context, feels like using training wheels on a bike or those railings over the bowling lane gutters. You should do it to learn, but some assholes will look down on it, and it’s totally not allowed in competitions.

I also noted on this reread how it’s very common for Dave to have the tiny flashing exclamation point above his head when he gets a sudden shock. This might have happened once or twice with John or Rose, I’d need to reread more to check, but it’s definitely a lot more common with Dave. He could be easily startled, it could be an artistic way of showing his emotion when he wouldn’t show it on his face like other characters do, or this could be where Dave stores his unused exclamation points that he’s too cool to put in chat messages.

Finally. I love the bit on p.581 when the picture of Sweet Bro or Hella Jeff gets knocked off the fridge and slowly floats to the floor.

Bad Love

Have you seen a monster? What did it look like? What did it say? What did you feel? Did it have a smile? Were its eyes empty? Was it a human? Who was your monster?

Narcissus sat in the investigation room handcuffed.

"I don't understand the reason for being here." He said. "Why am I here? What did I do?"

"Listen, you won't be here for too long, that is only if you speak the truth." Inspector Gregory Rothchild said as he sat on the chair.

"Let us ask some basics, okay? State your name."

"Narcissus."

"Real name."

"That is my real name. That was what everyone I knew called me, that is what I remember being called. I was an orphan Inspector, I never had a name." Narcissus argued.

"I apologize for making you feel uncomfortable. So, your occupation?"

"I am a dancer, a singer, an actor. I do all of them, I do shows, and the circus. My main job is a magician. I do magic, I can do it all." Narcissus smirked.

"I'm impressed." Gregory returned the smirk. "Let me tell you the reason for being here." He said and began placing pictures one by one on the table. The pictures of crime scenes and daffodils next to the body.

"....I don't understand. Do you want me to pull out the flower from the picture?" Narcissus asked.

Gregory leaned close to the table. "These are daffodils, also known as Narcissus. "

Narcissus scoffed. "So the flowers being next to the body, the flower named Narcissus being on the crime scenes, ultimately points out me as the murderer, does it? Am I the only Narcissus in the world? Or you picked me Because I was easy? Do you think this is a joke?"

"But you belonged to Sector 386, didn't you?" A voice from behind Gregory called out. A man with a long coat strode towards Narcissus and placed 9 pictures in front of him.

"Each picture has a letter on them, except for the 3 pictures." He said pointing "It wasn't hard to tell what it was saying, but as far as the world knows, or has been told is that Sector 386, was a home to orphans, but unfortunately due to some electrical issues, the place was burned to ashes. Only 5 survived out of 8. One is you right, Narcissus, aka 02?"

Narcissus scowled at him. "Who are you?"

"Oh, I'm Detective Keenan Pratama. Nice to meet you? But let's exchange formalities afterwards, I'm curious about your housemates. Where are the rest of them? Do they know Hades too?"

"Hades?" Narcissus whipped his head at Keenan. "Why do you call him Hades?"

Keenan tilted his head in confusion. "What should we call him then? He leaves Narcissus on the crime scenes, usually his victims receive Narcissus from either someone or they are left at the door or in the house somewhere. Sometimes he carves Cerberus on the victim's body, these are all, somehow related to Hades, the god of the underworld. I named him that, for the time being until we get a hold of his identity. Why are you surprised? Did I hit a bull's eye?"

"STOP ASKING ME ABOUT MY PRIVATE LIFE!!" Narcissus snapped "I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!! I DON'T WANT TO TELL ABOUT MY PAST!!! I DON'T KNOW HIM!! I DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT HIM!! I HAVE NO RELATION WITH HIM!!"

While Gregory tried to calm him down, Keenan looked at him amused. "So I did hit a bull's eye." He mumbled. "It's a pity, Mr. Narcissus, you can't leave this place for the time being. I'll be taking you with me."

"What?!" Gregory turned at him. "Detective Keenan, that's dangerous!"

"Apart from a sleigh of hands, what else can he do? He may try to get away in the darkness of the night but I have insomnia. " Keenan beamed.

"That's not it! What if he tries to kill you?"

"Then I'll trust you to take revenge for me." He said, patting Gregory on his shoulders. "Let's go, Narcissus, we can chat on our way or when you are comfortable."

He cuffed his own hand and Narcissus' hands together. Narcissus scoffed. "Do you think this handcuff can stop me?"

"No." Keenan looked at him. "I absolutely do not doubt your ability in escaping me, since you've been doing those acts at shows, you know and you can escape me. But I believe that the thought of Hades will blur your mind so much that escaping would be hard. I know that you know about Hades. And I know that too, that you want to know about him too."

Narcissus was silent throughout the journey. The thought of Hades was indeed on his mind. Whatever the detective said was true. Was his monster Hades?

July 1983 to October 1986. In 1983, DC lured Doug Moench away from Marvel and books like MASTER OF KUNG FU and MOON KNIGHT to take over BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS under the editorship of Len Wein. Their run, which lasted 40 months, was the final phase of the Bronze Age Batman continuity; although it continued for some months after the end of CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, everything through DETECTIVE COMICS #566 and BATMAN #400 is functionally part of pre-Crisis continuity, in particular most anything to do with Jason Todd becoming the second Robin. (Jason debuted during the end of Gerry Conway's run in early 1983, but it was Moench and Wein who oversaw Jason's actually becoming Robin.)

From 1981 to 1986, there was a tight continuity between BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS: a story begun in one book would continue in the other two weeks later. This was something new for Batman; there had been occasional multi-issue storylines for years, and Steve Englehart and Len Wein had introduced a certain amount of Marvel-style continuity in the late '70s, but having around 40 story pages per month allowed more room for character-driven stories, supporting characters, and subplots. When Doug Moench arrived, a central focus was on leading up to Jason Todd becoming Robin, but there were also numerous other major and minor subplots, from Alfred's attempts to connect with his adult daughter, Julia Remarque (introduced by Conway in 1981), to Gotham's messy city politics and various deadly underworld power struggles.

In MASTER OF KUNG FU, Moench's signature storytelling preoccupation had been "kinky weirdos hurting each other's feelings," and his initial run on the Bat-books also featured a series of messy, sometimes bloody romantic triangles, the most important of which involved Batman; the now-reformed Catwoman; Nocturna (Natalia Knight), a pretentious Goth burglar who attempted to adopt Jason Todd; and Nocturna's adoptive brother Anton, who became a cat burglar out of deranged obsession with Natalia and later tried to kill her so no one else could have her. It was all very grandiose and inevitably somewhat florid, but then expecting gritty, understated realism from a comic book about a man who fights crime dressed as a bat is itself pretty silly.

The strongest story in this run actually has little to do with that soap opera: "What Price the Prize?" in BATMAN #372, is an intelligent, grounded drama about an up-and-coming young Irish boxer maneuvering for a bout with a Black champion obviously inspired by Muhammad Ali, featuring some of Don Newton's finest Batman art; the conclusion in DETECTIVE #539 isn't quite as sharp, but is still one of Moench's best. Other highlights include a clash with Catman (BATMAN #371/DETECTIVE #538) in which Thomas Blake's determined belief in the magical power of his costume nearly gets both him and Batman killed over and over; a wistful story about the private life and hidden depths of boorish Harvey Bullock (DETECTIVE #549); a delightful one-shot (BATMAN #383) in which Batman repeatedly tries and fails to get some sleep; the debut of Black Mask (BATMAN #385–386 and DETECTIVE #553); a comedic tale of Batman and Catwoman on an actual date, in costume (BATMAN #392); and a distinctly '80s-Bondian espionage adventure reuniting Moench and artist Paul Gulacy (BATMAN #393–394).

Artistically, the run got off to a good start with Don Newton on BATMAN (inked by Alfredo Alcala) and Gene Colan on DETECTIVE (generally inked by Bob Smith). Newton's departure in 1984 hurt, leading to a period of artistic musical chairs and some really bad early Pat Broderick art, followed by Tom Mandrake taking over BATMAN. Mandrake gets a bad rap in some quarters, mostly because his style is looser (and about two steps further in the direction of Gene Colan) than many comics fans care to tolerate, but his work here is mostly fine, and certainly an improvement over Broderick's. The Annual has some very nice early Denys Cowan pencils, inked by Alcala, and BATMAN #400 is an all-star extravaganza art-wise.

Maddeningly, DC has never properly reprinted a lot of this material, which I think is badly overdue. If it's not as epochal as some more familiar periods both before and after, the median level of quality is pretty decent (and certainly no worse than the 1987–1991 period, which has now been reprinted in its entirety); its emphasis on characterization wouldn't be matched again in the Batman titles for many years. Denny O'Neil supposedly hated much of what Moench had done (Moench has said O'Neil especially loathed Nocturna, whom he flatly refused to revive in any form), but Denny is dead now, and in any case, his Batman stories include their share of stinkers as well as gems. I don't know that DC has any kind of real reprint strategy anymore, but I hope they won't wait until Doug Moench is dead to properly remaster and collect these issues. Doing them all (BATMAN #360–400 and Annual #10, DETECTIVE #527–567) in something akin to Marvel's Epic Collection format would probably take four volumes — there's around 1,800 pages of material, more if you include Moench's Superman/Batman stories from WORLD'S FINEST — but why not?

Is sjm racist?

I’ve seen hella posts saying that her portrayal of the Illyrians is her racist side coming out because they embody the stereotype of brown uncivilized men crawling after white women.

It made me question why people have been saying this. There are other POC in Acotar that are the opposite of this stereotype, are very educated, non-abusive and, all in all, are beautiful souls. For example, Tarquin and his cousins, Helion, Thesan and his entourage and Lucien.

So why do people call SJM racist when it comes to the Illyrians?

My first thought was, people actually don’t want Illyrians to be poc because that would mean the main men of the series are, and woah, we don’t want that!Kind of a reflection of our own racist views, perhaps?

I mean, you can argue that “omg of course she makes the brown ppl barbaric and white women lovers with backward minds, just makes so much sense she’s racist!”

But to me, it gives off the vibe that you actually believe in this stereotype.

My second thought, including all the above, being that it just doesn’t make sense. We have many other cruel, misogynistic and abusive characters who are WHITE. So why is it so bad when it comes to Illyrians, why is it all of a sudden a gateway to the author not having enough diversity in their books and harmful stereotypes placed on brown ppl. If every POC in this series was like that then yes, I would be side eyeing Tf out of SJM.

And if you argue that all the POC are portrayed as sexually untamed, my dear friend did we completely skip past the part where Tamlin has this annual sex ritual?? No? Ok. Guys, I think it’s just a Fae thing, they do tend to get a bit wild🫣.

As a brown person myself, I don’t think some of you actually care about racial stereotypes within modern day literature, I think the issue is you don’t want the main love interests to be POC.

I feel like ppl have to say this too much but it’s canon Illyrians are brown skinned, I can’t believe I have to do this but pg 386 from Acosf “she watched his LIGHT BROWN fingers play against her pale skin” nesta referring to cassian. Anybody with common sense can full well acknowledge that light brown is not just tan. And there are many other times where Illyrians are described to have golden-BROWN skin. Search the skin tones up on google if you’re having that much trouble comprehending it.

Cartooners is an animated cartoon creation package from EA way back in 1988.

I had very fond memories of creating various animations as a kid growing up. Me and my siblings would take turns creating silly little animations, full of our current in-jokes.

It's a very simple to learn tool which can quickly be used to create some quite engaging cartoons.

Unfortunately it also has a few minor bugs that can undermine your work, such as background scenes sometimes not changing correctly during playback.

The video above was captured on my ICL 386 PC, however I used to quite happily use the tool on my Compaq 286 growing up without any issues.

You can quite easily track this one down on abandonware sites still and it's quick and easily to play with in DosBox.

I've introduced this one to my kids who still enjoy playing about with it 35 years after it was created. Recommended!
