The anti acotar ppl can be so sensitive like get over yourselves it’s a fantasy series, it can’t be having this much control over your life😭
People enjoy it, so what? I like some parts and dislike others but some of you be reaching saying sjm can’t write for shit.
Im sick of Americans always taking FICTIONAL SERIES too seriously and being gullible to the point of no return.
"rhys abused feyre under the mountain!!!" "cassian is mean to nesta!!!" "lucien makes elain uncomfortable!!!" y'all clearly wouldn't survive two minutes reading a dark romance lmfao

I love gwynriel don’t get me wrong,
But if they didn’t end up happening, I still think Azriel would admire Gwyn the way he admires and talks about the Nephelle philosophy, having her as an inspiration. He’s seen her at her worst, literally, and then watched her grow into a strong Valkyrie and survive the Blood Rite. Canonically, he looks at her with admiration in his eyes when she’s training, he’s surprised by her irreverent and charming persona.
This may be reaching but if he has children, whoever he has them with, I can picture Azriel talking to them about Gwyn as a way to motivate them, like what he did with Feyre. Idk I just thought that would be cute, platonic and all.

Help.
I’m having issues finding genuinely good fantasy romance, thriller, mind blowing books to read. I’ve unfortunately read books/book series such as The Secret History, Acotar (and every other sjm series), an ember in the ashes, red queen, cruel prince, six of crows, 1984, crime and punishment, and Harry Potter amongst others which have all given me very high standards.
Reading these books has given me a serious condition, being I can no longer find novels that have the same level of writing skill. I tried Fourth Wing today, and I honestly could not get past the 1st chapter, I rly can’t stand mediocre writing like there was no creativity to the writing.
I’m STARVING for well written books with heaps of creative world building that allow me to literally get lost in the pages for hours. Whenever I get my hands on an SJM book, I swallow it in maximum 2 days, it’s addictive, and same goes for the others.
I haven’t been able to find a series that is seriously amazing and makes you NEVER want to put it down since the first crescent city book. I want to be absolutely enthralled by an author’s ability to draw me into the world and make me love its characters.
I kid you not, the fan fiction I’ve been reading is 10x better than all the books I’ve read in the past 3 months. Where have the fantasy books that kept you completely invested without having to add in heavy spice gone?
I was into contemporary romance for a while and now, I can’t stand it. Reading went downhill for me when I began contemporary romances. Most of the ones that are trending are poorly written and I can’t stand the lack of diversity and simplicity of the characters, every time I pick up a contemporary romance from book tok, the mcs are the same and are utterly boring. Also so much of the contemporary romance novels with enemies to lovers and similar tropes are SO TOXIC, half the time you’re not actually being entertained by the character’s interactions, you’re just amazed at how they’re grown ups and haven’t even thought to go to therapy.
I honestly think that some authors are having to add in so much spice just to make up for the poor writing and lack of creativity.
Someone pls recommend genuinely good, addictive and fantastically written fantasy romance books with slow burn and well thought out storylines as well as detailed world building. PLEASE I BEG YOU.
2010s fantasy absolutely rules.🤞🏽🤞🏽

Is sjm racist?
I’ve seen hella posts saying that her portrayal of the Illyrians is her racist side coming out because they embody the stereotype of brown uncivilized men crawling after white women.
It made me question why people have been saying this. There are other POC in Acotar that are the opposite of this stereotype, are very educated, non-abusive and, all in all, are beautiful souls. For example, Tarquin and his cousins, Helion, Thesan and his entourage and Lucien.
So why do people call SJM racist when it comes to the Illyrians?
My first thought was, people actually don’t want Illyrians to be poc because that would mean the main men of the series are, and woah, we don’t want that!Kind of a reflection of our own racist views, perhaps?
I mean, you can argue that “omg of course she makes the brown ppl barbaric and white women lovers with backward minds, just makes so much sense she’s racist!”
But to me, it gives off the vibe that you actually believe in this stereotype.
My second thought, including all the above, being that it just doesn’t make sense. We have many other cruel, misogynistic and abusive characters who are WHITE. So why is it so bad when it comes to Illyrians, why is it all of a sudden a gateway to the author not having enough diversity in their books and harmful stereotypes placed on brown ppl. If every POC in this series was like that then yes, I would be side eyeing Tf out of SJM.
And if you argue that all the POC are portrayed as sexually untamed, my dear friend did we completely skip past the part where Tamlin has this annual sex ritual?? No? Ok. Guys, I think it’s just a Fae thing, they do tend to get a bit wild🫣.
As a brown person myself, I don’t think some of you actually care about racial stereotypes within modern day literature, I think the issue is you don’t want the main love interests to be POC.
I feel like ppl have to say this too much but it’s canon Illyrians are brown skinned, I can’t believe I have to do this but pg 386 from Acosf “she watched his LIGHT BROWN fingers play against her pale skin” nesta referring to cassian. Anybody with common sense can full well acknowledge that light brown is not just tan. And there are many other times where Illyrians are described to have golden-BROWN skin. Search the skin tones up on google if you’re having that much trouble comprehending it.
Thank you I rest my case. Cant argue with book itself babes not gna work out🤷🏽♀️

Vanserras and their Weasley potential.
Just imagine Beron wasn’t a soulless asshole and LOAs affair with Helion never happened. Lucien is actually Beron’s child. Beron and LOA are in a happy healthy marriage with all their kids and it’s literally the Weasleys in another universe.
I would’ve loved this. Instead of dawn being the neutral court it’s autumn and at the high lord meetings they’re the old asf mama and papa trying to maintain peace and are actually very inclusive.
Just the cozy autumn aesthetic and the cheeky vanserra family. Literal slay🤞🏽. They shelter Jurian and Vassa courtesy of them being Lucien’s bestie boos. The way the plot would’ve been drastically different.
Damn.🧍🏽♀️
Yeah no could never imagine Beron not being an abusive jerk.

Some of y’all rly suck the fun out of reading ACOTAR.
Taking it toooo seriously it’s a YA fantasy romance 100% FICTIONAL book it’s not a biography.
You must be hella bored if you spend your time hating on a series that…doesn’t rly matter when you consider everything else in the word.
You don’t like a book series? Cute. Go find another and leave those who enjoy it ALONE. Make your critical posts ig, have fun but don’t go attacking ppl. It’s so unnecessary the way ppl be talking abt those who enjoy acotar. Not your cup of tea? Once again…
Cute. Go find another.
Acting like SJM should be writing like Dante Alighieri or else it’s jus not good enough like miss gurl cant help it if ppl like fae porn and drama🤷🏽♀️ it’s making her money too, a win for her. I believe she writes good fantasy even without the romance/smut and I’ve read a lot of fantasy but to each their own. Even if you don’t like it, there’s a reason the series has a big fandom.
I got my own things abt acotar that I don’t like but…ima peaceful kinda person it’s jus not within me to write 6 page long essay on how bad acotar is and why ppl shouldn’t read it cuz “ew so disgusting no morals every character is bad”
Now I don’t know if you guys can recall, but it is a FICTIONAL book and I also said in a recent post that ppl need to stop applying our morals in a fictional world. Characters are meant to be complex and have flaws, no one is perfect they aren’t god and obviously some characters are going to be viewed different when we’re reading through different perspectives (how nesta views rhysand in acosf, even cassian compared to how feyre views him). All characters aren’t meant to share the same views but it doesn’t necessarily mean one is right and the other is wrong. I believe that when we’re reading characters that are hundreds of years old it is bc of their age and individual experiences throughout time that they can become questionable in their morals and mindset simply bc they have endured so much and don’t see the world in black and white. Not every immortal is a wise old wizard in literature.
I didn’t rly like Rhys in ACOSF. I didn’t like Mor or Amren. Amren was not always fae, she is one of the oldest creatures In their faerie world and was not originally from their faerie world, I would be very surprised if she had the same beliefs/morals as the prythian fae from the get-go. Will never ever be on the same mental level as the rest of the characters. And I don’t mean childish I mean the exact opposite.
I’m not excusing the characters actions, they’re not written to be excused. But if the series and everything that happens in it seriously bothers you. Maybe it’s time for a break🙂
Now I know fs you guys wouldn’t be able to handle Game of Thrones with the way them characters be acting.

I will never not think about acotar characters listening to our music and watching our films. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, Cassian would listen to 90s rap/hip hop religiously. Imagine the inner circle watching our horror movies or the avengers. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful😌

Gwynriel needs that slow burn and easygoing friendship to show Azriel (and Gwyn but mostly Az) that love doesn’t have to be hard or inaccessible. To show him that loving someone doesn’t have to be so difficult and that it can be easy and peaceful. He doesn’t need forbidden/unrequited love, it has caused him a lot of pain, it’s unnecessary to make him go through that again with Elain.
@ SJM, please please please. If Gwyn and Az are actually getting the next book, let them have an easygoing friendship that slowly turns into love with a healthy dose of angst on top, but for the love of everything don’t put them through unnecessary drama 😩🙏
Azriel has been through enough and a dramatic start of a relationship is the last thing he needs. Gwyn’s just about to step into the outside world, she’s trusting a male for the first time since Sangravah, and she doesn’t need to be thrown into any messy situations. Both deserve peace of mind and a healthy relationship, and I hope Sarah doesn’t sacrifice that just for a bit of drama.

It is so infuriating to see elriels call Gwyn a fucking maid and disrespect her. And call her a baby and mild. Not liking a certain ship gives you absolutely no right to degrade a character who’s apart of that ship. Gwyn is not a light singer, that theory has been debunked MANY times and doesn’t make any sense. Im almost convinced that 75% of Elriel shippers are 12 years old. A lot of them admit to only reading Elriel scenes in Acosf and completely dismiss the interactions between Azriel and Gwyn. It is so stupid. Half of Elriel fandom are losing their minds over a SHIP. A SHIP. that’s insAne. I assure you that most gwynriels like Elain and would love to see her develop. Nobody cares who you ship, if you see an artwork that depicts Gwynriel, look the other fucking way and move on with your life. Nobody’s forcing you to like Gwynriel, stop trying to demonise the ship and consistently call it a crack ship when there is evidence that it’s not.
Grow up.

medoran chronicles thoughts bc idk..🕺🏽
•Hunter is one of the best characters in the whole series I wish we saw more of him and (I KNOW I’m not the only one thinking this)…he was def hot I mean Alex basically said it herself in akarnae (she acknowledged that he was handsome)
•whoever wrote that Hunter/Alex smUt fanfic on Ao3…I’ll never forgive you. Scarred. I got ptsd from that.
• Jordan should’ve said motherf*cker in We Three Heroes (I’m pretty sure that’s what he was going to say) while hunting for hyroas
• Though this fandom is pretty small (it’s growing) it’s one of the best ones I’ve been apart of as there are no arguments about who should’ve ended up with who and it’s just rly chill and nice
• the medoran chronicles will always be my favourite book series. I was pretty young when I started reading the books so I kinda grew up with them. It introduced me to the world of YA fantasy. Reading the books just makes me so happy and medora is 100% my comfort place
• For those who have read both Acotar and the medoran chronicles…what race of immortals would you say is more powerful: Acotar faeries or meyarins?
• I never got to read the novella (a very medoran kaldoras) and I’m praising god that I didn’t cuz the stress I see the rest of the fandom going through due to whatever crazy ending is not something I could handle.
• In my head, I see Alex with middle eastern and central Asian features (am I the only one?)
• I really wish we could’ve seen more into the teachers lives outside of Akarnae (especially the headmaster, karter, and Caspar Lennox)
• I would love to read a maturer version of the medoran chronicles (not disrespecting the original in any way I just think a version with more mature topics and more detail would be so cool since the main characters are teenagers who should be going thru all those teenagery journeys yk)

I’m going to ship both elriel and gwynriel to avoid heartbreak when the next book comes out (though I will always ship gwynriel more) both sides of the fandom have their flaws which are either hating on Elain and being misogynistic or hating on Gwyn and using her SA trauma against her. I’m not here for it. I don’t care if you ship elriel and I will be happy for you if they end up being endgame instead of gwynriel (I will be heartbroken but i will be supportive). I personally don’t like the forbidden love trope, I experience it a lot in my own life (not as serious as it sounds, I just have a tendency to fall for guys I can’t have) and don’t need to read about it due to the fact that it’s MESSY and unnecessarily painful. Especially when it comes to Elain and Azriel. The whole love/mate situation between Elain, Azriel, Lucien and Gwyn is so mentally draining, I just want them to be happy. Why don’t they go off in their own directions, fall in love with rly nice ppl from some random restaurant that looks like it belongs in Venice, Italy and just a simple, nice life with them and have little kids (and live in a average 4 bedroom house)😔 SJM leave my poor babies alone! There are days when I’m a hardcore Gwynriel shipper and there are days where I’m this close 🤏🏽 to being an elriel shipper, I love both I’m sick of picking sides and I know I will regret this post when I eventually revert back to my gwynriel mind and soul.

Acotar thoughts part 3 (idk):
•if gwynriel isn’t endgame I will crawl into a hole and cry for 5 days
•the way they are described in the bonus chapter is the way SJM describes mates with the glowing and things settling in peoples hearts, people being calm (that sorta stuff) and I can’t ignore that nor should anyone else
• I truly believe that Azriel is just rly desperate, we see how he thinks of him Elain he even says it’s to Rhys. He thinks they should be together bc he’s the third bat boy and she’s the third archeron sister. It is also pretty clear that he is pretty much 98% sexually attracted to her which makes for no emotional connection or as much as there should be
• Remember that when Azriel and Elain first met and for a while after they met, she was very much in love with that mortal guy and he still had feelings for Mor. Even in Acosf it is obvious that Elain hasn’t fully recovered from her heartbreak (and trauma in general). To me it seems as though Azriel is Elain’s rebound or each other’s rebounds and a matter of them being desperate and seeking solace in another person
•I will not deny that Elain and Azriel are drawn to each other however I feel as though they both have a lot of growing and recovering to do and they are both in places of pain and trauma meaning they aren’t their best selves. We haven’t seen what a completely happy Elain or completely happy Azriel looks and acts like and I believe that once they are there, they won’t fit each other or be what both of them need anymore
•Something I believe everyone should pay attention to is the way Azriels shadows act around Gwyn and Elain. With everyone specifically Mor and Elain, his shadows have frantically hidden themselves however with Gwyn they reach out to her. They want to be around her, and she is not afraid of them and remember that those shadows are apart of who Azriel is and what he is.
• In the bonus chapter, Azriels tells Gwyn something he has never told anyone before. I think it is ignorant to say (coming for you elriels) that Azriel was in a rush to get away from Gwyn or wanted to get out of his conversation with her quickly bc it literally says in the chapter that when he is with Gwyn after his fight with Rhysand, he feels a lot more calm and at peace.
• Gwyn and Azriel are both super competitive and I think bc of that they would compliment each other so well. Gwyn would be the hyper girlfriend dragging around her quiet emo asf boyfriend, it would be so cute. Gwyn isn’t afraid of Azriel whatsoever and they both converse really easily with each other.
•they are also caught glancing at each other every now and then by Nesta and Cassian during Valkyrie training

I just had the most courageous, amazing, no evidence, midnight thought, most likely will not happen, the more I think about it I seriously doubt my intelligence, idea on earth.
If I got to choose the povs for the next book in some other world…
I would definitely make it from Azriel and Mors pov. I am not shipping them no thank you, not my cup of tea. What if emerie was Mor’s love interest and Gwyneth being Azriels?
I also believe that if something like this ever happened we would see a lot more Eris which would be the best thing to ever happen to me.
Let Elain see azriel and Gwyn develop, get that built up anger that will finally let us see what Elain is really thinking, no filter. Then the book after, it’s elucien and we see Elain possibly lash out.
I KNOW THIS COULD NEVER HAPPEN. With the whole koschei war coming up actually nvm it could bc it was never confirmed by SJM that the next war would heavily involve Elain (or at least I think)
Anyways I know this situation would be rare and very unlikely just let me dream in peace😐

Elriel and gwynriel talk…
I am sooo conflicted. If gwynriel doesn’t happen I’m fine with that, I’m fine with elriel not happening too.
I believe that Lucien if he’s not with Elain in he next book will be confirmed with Vassa however my fear is that Vassa being mortal will be outlived by Lucien, leaving Lucien alone and heartbroken once again.
Currently, I don’t like Elain’s character or more so how her character is treated so far, in the books I feel that she is shown as a damsel in distress most of the time. I look forward to seeing her fiercer side (that we got to see when she killed Hybern) a lot more in the next book and character development. The characters in the series always find a way to treat or speak to her as if she is a child and I don’t agree with it. I don’t like how Elain didn’t even say thank you to Lucien for the jewellery he gave her, I understand that a lot of her trauma is something he contributed to however I feel as though Elain could be more open to even just trying to be more friendly with Lucien and possibly building a platonic relationship if she’s more comfortable with it in the next book. I also think Elain should take some time and think about the risks of a relationship between her and azriel happening that could influence the next war negatively. Elain is portrayed as completely innocent in the books and I don’t believe that’s how she rly is at all, I believe there will be a much darker side to her shown in the next book while also maintaining the lighter side (the darker side doesn’t have to be sexual and I don’t want it to be).
I believe that if Gwyn does not end up with Azriel then she may (this is just a dream of mine) be with that man in the blood rite named Balthazar. I can see it happening, he, from what we’ve seen, is quite caring and doesn’t follow the misogynistic and harmful traditions that most Illyrian men follow.
Originally I had wanted Azriel to be with a woman from a totally different court I’m thinking summer who doesn’t have royal heritage, isn’t necessarily someone who you would tremble before bc of their power as you do with most acotar characters apparently. Obviously I would want her to be a badass and I think a dark skinned lady with a fiery personality would’ve complimented him so well.
I also thought Azriel was bisexual and would’ve like to have seen him interact with someone of the male gender in a romantic way. I genuinely thought in ACOMAF that he was pretending to have feelings for Mor bc he wanted to hide that he had male lovers. I would’ve loved it and Sarah if you’re reading this, it’s not too late to take this idea into consideration.
I am more of a gwynriel fan than an elriel fan but sometimes I get these moments where I just think that “gwynriel won’t happen, it can’t”. Elain will definitely get the pov for the next book, she’s the third sister, it’s going to revolve around her and it has to be azriel too bc he’s the third bat boy. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be each other’s main love interests, it might tell the story of Elain falling for lucien as she gets to know him and the same with azriel to Gwyn. I hope the next book won’t just be revolving around the love triangle, I hope there is A LOT more action and war in it like ACOWAR.
If there’s a book after the next one I will pray every minute of every day that’s it’s from Eris’ pov.
This post was made to address these romance and mate situations so don’t come at me if I’m making it seem like the romance is the only good thing about these characters please.
Also is it just me or do the books after acotar have such a different vibe? I miss the vibe of the 1st book and how it showed faeries to be a cruel and deadly race, I loved that dark aesthetic. It reminded me very much of how faeries in the cruel prince series are shown as.
