Isekai they never made but really should have:

Nerdy girl gets her own harem of hot guys

American guy who hates manga forced into Isekai and gets into constant arguments with everyone even his Waifus. (Think of someone like Dan from Dan Vs)

A whole class gets isekai'd and when the popular guy gets the heroic OP skills, he thinks he's going to get all the three hottest girls in class, but it turns out their all lesbians and in love with each other. So, he becomes an evil bitch baby and now they have to kill him.

Lesbian gets her own harem of Waifu's.

Closeted cute boy gets his own Harem of hot guys who help him accept himself as a gay boy and thus become his new family as a result. Mostly wholesome stuff but if you prefer smut then go for it.

Someone from the SCP Foundation gets iseaki'd and they rebuild the Foundation in a fantasy world which basically leads to them hording all the artifacts of the world and controlling all the underworld organizations becoming OP as a result.

Superman get's sent to a fantasy world as a baby.

Demon Lord isekai'd into our world after getting killed by the hero and ends up fighting high school bullies as well as local gangsters.

A secret organization builds a portal to a fantasy world and starts invading for the sake of resources and a few insurgences as well as local fantasy world resistance fights them off. (You know, like Avatar)

I love how Nakoto is allowed to be flawed and have actual personality.This may seem like small but wouldn't believe the amount of isekai protag with little to zero personality.

As my Roomie pointed out, the biggest cause of the Dance is Viserys and how he treated his children and their roles. This is purely from a show perspective and while it would have taken a bit of hope he definitely could have set it up to make people more accepting of Rhaenyra's succession in a variety of ways.

The biggest?

1.) Do. Not. Fucking. Marry.

If you are worried about the Targaryen family being small? Annul Daemon's marriage on grounds of non-consumation and make an agreement that he has to remarry and have children within a certain amount of time. Give him a little freedom in ut and I think he might even do it.

Start talking to Rhaenyra immediately about her role and needing heirs as soon as she can to solidify it. Do NOT marry her off immediately but be actively involved in helping her find someone suitable and she is attracted to (not Laenor). Cue a long engagement until she's older but the known arrangement would have been stabilizing.

There's plenty of good choices. Harwin is the obvious for their connection. Tyland would work. Anyone meeting the requirements.

Another good person: Gwayne. Gwayne Hightower is from a good family but is the youngest son of a second son so he is more acceptable to marry in and doesn't have conflicting duties. It keeps the Hightower connection and they are close in age and more likely to establish an interest in each other due to this.

Viserys, if he was so lonely, could have just taken a mistress. There would have widows around his age he might be able to start a romance with or frankly pay women.

2.) Get support.

Give Rhaenyra ladies from all over to bond. Take second and third sons as wards so she has a chance to interact and bond with them to establish connections.

Reward people who back her up and use the Hightower connection to charm the Faith for their backing. Donate to them in her name. Open up charities.

3.) Establish her role.

Go on Progresses to firmly establish in the minds of others that Rhaenyra is the heir. Rhaenyra is canonly charming. Let her charm people! Plus it keeps an eye on people potentially rebelling.

Honor her roots in the Vale and let Rhaenyra see how a woman ruler handles things by having her spend time under Jeyne.

Give her a real position at Court like previous heirs. Have her sit in either with you or Otto when decisions are being made. Have her work under different members of the Council and take notes at meetings rather than just acting as cup bearer.

Have her be seen at charity work around the city and have he take over things that are traditionally the Queens role in Court to ease in as it ties to her education so far while gathering more appropriate tutors to cover the areas that haven't been in her previous education. Covering ALL areas as

Give her bedmates (ladies in waiting and girl companions) to sleep with her because her reputation must be even more untouchable now.

Honor her roots in the Vale and let Rhaenyra see how a woman ruler handles things by having her spend time under Jeyne. This gives her practical experience and can be the start of having her visit and act in place of the Crown.

When she has years under her belt slowly give her official roles making your way up to Hand of the King after she has married and had her first child and is an established adult.

Have people re-swear there oaths multiple times during a large gathering.

4.) ACT LIKE A PARENT. Rhaenyra needs both emotional support and boundaries. Give it and make them.

5.) Call in Rhaenys. Ask Rhaenys how her father prepared her and try to establish familial bonds again, so Rhaenyra has another mentor who can give her further advice like Jeyne.

BONUS: If he is worried, he looks weak? TRY AND BOND WITH ANOTHER DRAGON! It's supposed to be possible. And getting this would have balanced things.

BONUS 2: If you HAVE FURTHER LEGITIMATE CHILDREN, ESTABLISH THEIR LIVELIHOODS SO THEY DON'T NEED TO DEPEND ON THEIR SISTER AND IT IS CLEAR THEY AREN'T A THREAT.

ENCOURAGE A FAMILIAL BOND BETWEEN THEM.

WORK AT CHANGING THE DOCTRINE OF EXCEPTIONALISM TO MAKE GENDER BLIND INHERITANCE FOR THE THRONE - JAEHAERYS AND ALYSANNE EVEN GAVE YOU A STEP-BY-STEP ON HOW TO GET THE KINGDOM TO AGREE TO IT. IF THEY CAN SWING INCEST YOU CAN SWING A QUEEN WHEN WESTEROS HAS HAD THEM BEFORE EVEN IF THE IRON THRONE HASN'T.

Okay, this was an old story concept that I had, so might as well share it:

A man wakes up as a minor spirit in another world and slowly creates a cult (and later actual state religion) around himself. Shenanigans happen in the process.

I finally understand why I have such a love hate for the isekai genre... I see its potential as a medium to explore a main characters flaws and force them to adapt and grow in a perilous and unkown world. Everything you once knew before can either help you or severely hurt you because you simply do not have a frame of reference for navigating this new world. and that can be fucking scary. give me a character who is terrified and has to learn to adapt through this hardship and maybe no one knows or understands what an otherworlder is... therefore their otherness is a threat and can get them in trouble with locals who dont know what their dealing with you know???

but no, isekai is simply a glorified and masked wish fufilment harem simulator for most authors who use the trope... so much lost potential. Like we COULD have such intriguing stories centered around the unkown vs known, and the fear of everything inbetween and how you and others navigate it but nooo lets just give the otherworlder godlike powers and a harem to make up for them being a bullied loner in their previous life. sigh.

You know what's even ironic,the fact that Kaufman is still in love with navier even though she's now pregnant with heinreys children. And the fact that kosair,naviers brother is a violent man that caused him to be outside the borders and how he even goes tok far as to feed rashta abortion drugs is so scummy. Ngl Id actually be more sympathetic to Navier as a whole as despite her cold exterior it showed that you know she was actually pushing for reform for the lower class citizens! But nah she can’t be bothered to deal with peasants.

But back to your point- Can someone please tell me what the whole point of the Kaufman/Navier plotline was? Because honest to goodness it sounds like pointless drama to extend the story length at this point. Either that or just show how irresistible goddess Navier is.

Someone once reblogged/replied to my last post and said that no one in this series is a morally good person. That’s fair. I agree they’re all pretty terrible people in their own ways. Honestly I’ve said it time and time again. I don’t have a problem that they’re terrible people.

Good characters =/= good people

What irks me is when the novel disrespectfully handles heavy topics like slavery and trauma to build up its Mary Sue fl. The whole story markets itself as being some pro feminism revenge story but it’s really not? It doesn’t feel like at least half of the cast gets their proper comeuppance? No seriously- Sovieshu should’ve kicked the bucket. Heinrey and his creepy friend should’ve been held more accountable to a higher degree as well.

Navier isn’t a girl’s girl at all. To both the character and story’s fault Everyone must either worship her or hate her. No one who disagrees with her is allowed any sort of meaningful empathy that Navier in my opinion is sort of undeserving of. (Anyone is free to argue this- but she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and everything magically works out for her. I’m supposed to feel more sorry for her than the girl who was sold by her abusive father into slavery?) hahaha no.

At this point I’d advise people who actually want to see a pro feminism story with political intrigue to read ‘I’ll Saved this damn family!’ Now that’s a story that can treat other women who aren’t the fl well and promotes pretty good relationships between them too.

again i'm here to ache and moan about the romance in romfan/otome isekai. yes i know it's part of the genre. shut up.

don't get me wrong, there are absolutely times where i go "yeah i ship it". i'm particularly fond of the female lead and male lead of "kill the male lead to become the villainess". in the chapters i've read so far, there is absolutely no romantic tension unless you REALLY start trying to read into things. i have no idea if this will even end romantically. and yet. i ship it.

if i were to attempt to narrow down the problem....

well, here's theory 1: i think it's the focus on romance. specifically, the focus on romance over actual character development. the focus on romance is so tight that sometimes, you don't get focus on the characters themselves. you don't really get a reason to like them. your favor comes from character archetypes and their conveniently info dumped backstory, not their ACTUAL PERSONALITY.

essentially, i think the problem is you're (well, i) stuck evaluating how well these characters suck face together before 1) establishing their actual character 2) figuring out how these characters actually interact.

hence this weird backwards inclination (for me) to ship when there's currently no existing romantic intent. when there's a proper plot outside of romance, you've got a bit more solid backing for the above points. you've got a bit more time to ACTUALLY like the characters and their interactions together.

i'm not saying a romance-focused lens CAN'T work well. there is absolutely fun in something like an awkward love-at-first sight. but sometimes, whatever you're reading fails to ask "is there chemistry?" and "do these people have personalities yet?" and instead goes for "who cares, let's make them blush around each other for no reason, that's the quick and easy way to get a ship going".

I would say that this anime is definitely in the top of the suicide squad team ups (with Harley ofc) there's some,,,,, choice words and shit, unfortunately fairly on brand with stuff about them, but ya know in terms of Suicide Squad content Ive really really enjoyed this. I love the dynamic with Harley and Deadshot and her and King Shark. I really fucking love the dynamic with her and King Shark they're so good in this. And she's been treated so well with fight scenes like she's badass and they show it she's so cool

also yes for anyone wondering Joker is still a toxic bastard in this universe it's revealed at the end that the Katana that they've been fighting in the other world the whole time was him so fights that Harley had with "her" was with him actually, so he still is an abusive manipulative fucking bastard idc. Amanda Waller says at the end that he probably took on Katana's identity as revenge for her capturing Harley but I think Amanda's just wrong tbh because like???? he was fighting Harley like boy what the fuck are you doing stop attacking your girlfriend you dickhead

Also also there is a scene we see that I do believe is Harleen's actual memories that shows the Joker choking her and at least definitely dropped her in the acid, even though in the scene itself she switches with the bad guy dude they're fighting and he takes Harleen's place over the acid, while Harley's with Joker in this scene we saw.

but like he's not healthy in this either and I don't know how people are taking it that way because he's still a toxic LOSER. Harley also talks about how she can recognize brainwashing because she has been brainwashed by Joker that's what's insinuated like that's still brainwashing ??? he's not a good partner in this. It's the bare minimum and he can't even reach that bar. Like compared to other Jokers especially in Suicide Squad content yes he is not as physically horrific towards her, big whoop, but the reveal at the end really puts into question the actual love that he allegedly has for her.

AND HARLEY IS SO PRETTY AND BADASS SHE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER BABY I KNOW THAT PRINCESS / QUEEN HAS THE HOTS FOR YA GO BECOME ROYALTY WITH YOUR BIG ASS DRAGON!!!

As someone who loves the suicide squad, as a concept, can someone explain to me what the hell WB is even trying to do?

It's like they really want the suicide squad to be a popular brand, something of their own to stand a chance against Marvel. That makes sense to an extent when Justice League bombed and the only recent movie in the DCEU that got a lot of praise was The Suicide Squad. But then I think about it and realize, that movie is the only piece of suicide squad content that actually understands what the IP is supposed to be about.

Between the 2016 movie, the video game, and the anime that just dropped, I'm left completely baffled. The suicide squad (or Task Force X, whatever) isn't meant to be this elite team of supervillains that take on world-ending threats, or even multidimensional threats. They're a group of criminals used by a corrupt government to perform top secret missions in a completely inhumane fashion. So why are we getting media where they get isekai'd or dimension hop to fight a bunch of Braniacs? It's just...weird.

The 2021 movie actually got this right! Waller sends the team to wipe records of America's involvement in a secret project where they running inhumane experiments regarding aliens. Peacemaker was the only one made aware of this, the team was used and exploited. That is the entire point. They're all expendable and nobody giving them their missions gives a flying fuck about them.

Ya know what else gets this right? My Adventures with Superman, of all things. That show is a full on Superman story that Task Force X just so happens to also be involved in. Somehow it understands the point of the suicide squad more than actual suicide squad media, and we've been getting a LOT of that. In the show, the government is so paranoid by the existence if a being as strong as Superman, that they start using kryptonian technology. They give criminals they have captured superpowers and make them hunt Superman down. Waller views the criminals in prison as expendable and doesn't care what she has to do to them if it means getting a mission done. It doesn't shy away from how disgusting that is.

Yeah uh we also just had a video game where Superman literally dies because King Shark and Captain Boomering shoot him enough times with kryptonite bullets. Remember that?

With the release of Suicide Squad Isekai I'm just left completely baffled as to what WB is thinking when it comes to this IP. I would say the only reason the 2021 movie was good is because of James Gunn, but now even a Superman cartoon can get the concept down perfectly.

And I didn't even mention Harley Quinn's characterization lately which is a whole separate can of worms...

It’s wild looking back on isekai as a genre. Like, we used to get classics like Escaflowne, .hack Sign, Rayearth, Inuyasha.

And then I realized that the shared trait they all have in common is that they were all about girls and/or written by women. The moment men threw their hat in ring we started getting a deluge of shit called things I Was Reborn As A God Who Has A Harem Of Submissive And Breedable Sisters.

I yearn for the days when an isekai could be about a teen girl falling into a fantasy world and going on a life changing journey of self discovery, and maybe get a cute prince boyfriend or something along the way and it would be peak fiction every time.
