“Huh?!” You jump back, almost dropping your pen as you turn to see frowning Gojo Satoru staring down at you expectingly, the usually relaxed demeanour he wore crumbling in the slight dip in his brow.

It wasn’t a question, Gojo stated it as fact, and if you looked hard enough, the downwards tilt of his lips could tell you about his complete (and utter) disapproval in his conclusion.

“I have no idea what you mean.”

You were running, sprinting even away from your problems.

Avoid, avoid avoid.

You refused to let it come to this, cornered in a library with Gojo Satoru, a man you definitely were not avoiding, nope not at all.

“You.” Gojo leans down, capturing your eyes in his, “Are avoiding me.”

And you’re leaning back, in your seat, away from him. Attempting to create any distance between the pair of you, unable to stand the giddy rush of joy that the proximity generated.

A moment passed.

And then another.

And deep down you pleaded, with conviction similar to that of a desperate man crying out for God, that the floor would fall in, taking you with it and allowing you some leeway to escape.

Gojo cocks his head, blue eyes scanning your panicked face before he sighs and stands back up again, resuming his position of elevation before you.

“Why?” His voice lacked the sentiment of interrogation, he couldn’t find in himself to dwindle on anger, he missed you and he selfishly wanted you to know it, to feel guilt in your mistreatment.

“Gojo.” You started, moving your eyes away from his face to glare at the book your reading instead.

Were you sweating? You felt like you were. Oh God.

Jujutsu sorcerers were not supposed to fall for another, it was an unspoken rule shared between sorcerers.

An unspoken rule that constantly plagued your thoughts when you were near Gojo. And so, you decided confidently to yourself that you could easily get over this silly personal flaw. Surely it would be easy.

But Gojo isn’t an easy man, and falling out of love with him followed that damn trend.

At every turn of your head, your gaze found his, longing for him to catch your eyes and reassure you with his presence, boisterous, like how he handles everything. And at night, when you tossed and turned, the cruel Summer heat forcing you to wither in your bed, you wondered if he could ever dream of you like how you longed for him.

It was pathetic really.

And so yes maybe you were avoiding him.

But you were doing it with good intentions!

You weren’t about to burden him with your childish wish for his unreturned feelings. Not in this world, under these circumstances, not when he was already holding the weight of being the strongest.

“Is there something bothering ya?” Gojo paused, “Cause y’know you only have t’ ask, and I could take care of it.”

And you wanted to cry.

Because Gojo Satoru is loud, and unabashedly himself, but he cares in silence, through actions hidden behind a loud laugh and a cocky grin.

“No, no it’s nothing really.” You had to do something, to say anything.

“Nothing? I haven’t seen you in days Y/N.”

“I’ve just been busy…” You mumble, fidgeting awkwardly in your chair.

“Oh yea? With what? Reading?” Gojo scoffed, his shoulders dropping in poorly hidden exasperation.

Your cheeks burned as you nodded, unable to form words, “And missions too I guess.”

“I asked Yaga, you haven’t been on a mission since September.”

Fuck.

“Preparations for missions then.” You cringed at yourself, lowering your head in the shame of being caught in your own shitty lie.

“Come on Y/N cut the bullshit.” Gojo all but whines, “I know somethings off, I know you.” You look at him then, his shoulder slumped, and face pouting, and you felt horrible.

“It’s really nothing Gojo I swear.”

“See there!” Gojo jumped, his eyes wide with determination, a look you only ever see on him in the middle of a mission. “You called me Gojo, you never do that, it’s Satoru to you, just Satoru.”

“You’re upset because I’m not calling you by your first name?” You asked, unable to break eye contact with him.

“You use to call me Satoru.” He huffs, crossing his arms.

You had to get out of there, the fact that your confession was all but resting on your tongue scared you beyond words, and you moved to pick up your stuff.

Then you felt his hand touch yours and your froze.

“What’s going on inside that head of your Y/N.” He was so close, so, so close. You could feel the warmth of his chest that was almost pressed against your arm, “Please.”

And you crumbled, because your weak and you could never escape the way you felt when he was near you, how you could barley hold yourself back from leaning into his chest and breathing in his scent.

“Satoru.” You whispered, your confession hushed, your head down and eyes closed, “I think I like you.”

And silence.

Silence.

Silence

And you were running walking away, avoid, avoid, avoid, your feet moving fast, abandoning the books you had brought because oh my god you had just told Satoru Gojo that you liked him and that was stupid, you’re stupid, everything was stupid and-

You were pulled back into him, effortlessly turned around so that your face was in his chest, the sound of his chuckling encasing your shameful state.

“The fuck are you laughing for?” You protested, unsuccessfully trying to wriggle your way out of his embrace, his arms circling you close.

“You’re pretty when you’re embarrassed y’know?”

And you had to hold yourself back from punching him right then and there, because of course Satoru Gojo knew you liked him, of course he was teasing you.

Nothing can escape those damn eyes, and he’s smarter than he lets on.

“You’re such an asshole I hope you know that, as soon as I leave this room I am never speaking to-’

Your rambles were cut short when you felt a tiny kiss on your forehead, and you finally looked at him fully, only to see the softest expression on his face as he looked down at you.

“I think I like you too Y/N.” He winked, his hand tracing the indent of your spine as he pulled you back into a hug, rocking you gently.

And you hugged him back, finally allowing yourself the closure you had dreamed of for months.

I think the things that offend me most nowadays in like, smaller interpersonal interactions rather than grand, sweeping trends in culture, are when people chose to not partake in a wide set of things. Like musical close mindedness, or refusal to try different foods from different cultures. Not watching an entire subset of films bc they’re ‘french’. Avoiding reading bc you say you have adhd and it’s too hard. Like dude I get it, I’m busy. I can be picky. Everyone can. But the willful ignorance of closing yourself off to those VAST portions of the human experience, and not having curiosity and a lust to learn and explore art that was made by someone worlds apart from you either in terms of their culture, era, whatever. I dunno man it just pisses me off so bad. I think it’s arrogant. Like oh you’re comfortable in your safe little bubble huh? And you’re enforcing its barriers with the excuse that you’re autistic and have sensory issues. With music made by black people?? lol okay. It is pretty presumptuous for me to assume malicious intent but I think those prejudices are borne from either the comfort of being someone who’s wealthy and probably white not feeling the need to learn past what they think is enough, or it’s a reflection of a society that’s taught you to prioritize what it shills— popular, current (white, depending where you live ig) artists who are making streamlined, easy to digest content. Often when I meet people with these issues they’ll have one particular ‘niche’, and it tends to be like. 70s music. Victorian literature. Anime and Japanese games. But they’re still not really investing beyond the media presented. Like there’s so much more to Japanese culture than liking some cartoons put out between 2010-2020. You don’t gotta become some sorta Einstein who learns the background of every little freak in FGO yeah. But don’t you wanna aim higher? Aren’t you interested in any of the historical figures? And nothings wrong with hopping onto a trend. You read Dracula bc of that Dracula daily thing. Cool! Read more. Some people will say they’re chronically ill or disabled and can’t get outside. That’s okay. The internet is full of things you can read other than fanfiction, YouTube has a shit ton of free music. There’s Wikipedia and free articles online if you have questions about things. Yeah nobody is spending four hours a day looking at the national archives website and studying art history but it’s imbued in the things around you, and youll absorb it ambiently as you go along. you dont have to be a jack of all trades and cover every major genre of every major medium, but it never hurts to try! I really love seeing ppl ask too. Bc it can be kind of humiliating to admit to what seems like some jackass hipster that you’ve never delved into, idk, Serbian films (lol not that one). The only Jedi who's ever gone to the Outer Rim and caused more good than harm is Kerra Holt. In chronological order:

- Tom Veitch foretold the trend (as he foretold everything) when he had City Boy On His First Mission Ulic Qel-Droma try to rescue the princess on Onderon (not technically Outer Rim in current canon but whatever), only to completely misinterpret the situation since the princess was getting kidnapped on purpose to marry her love. Ever since then every Core World Jedi going to the Outer Rim has also misinterpreted the situation and/or not assessed the needs of the people they are trying to help, leading to some dreadful cosmic tragedy. In Ulic's case, this small mistake was soon resolved, but in the back-and-forth of wars that resulted from this mission Ulic fell to the Sith and killed a ton of people, ending with a weak ass redemption of mansplaining forgiveness to a catgirl

- Nomi Sunrider stopped the Sith by... burning down a rainforest

- Revan (or as I like to call them, knock off Ulic Qel-Droma) did stop the Mandalorian takeover out there, but only after falling to the Dark Side themself. And what's worse, they took Malak with them. Half the time they clean up their mess, the other half they make it worse, and either way they go further into the galaxy -- bad idea!

- the Jedi Exile blowed up a planet out there. At least they felt sorry about it

- GOAT Kerra Holt goes to the Outer Rim for a specific purpose (free the people from the Sith governments) and works her butt off to accomplish this, even putting a stop to corrupt drug running from the unhelpful Republic. I have a theory that the only reason future Jedi don't learn from her is (not bc she got written just before the Disney merger but) bc she was never able to return home to Coruscant and teach the others :(

- reading The High Republic rn, and this seems to be the main theme of the series, or at least my main takeaway. In the main storyline, the Republic (+ Jedi) build Starlight Beacon for no specific purpose and do not set up any kind of infrastructure to allow the local people to actually reap its benefits. My man Tia Toon calls them out and nobody listens to him except me. Unconvincing post-9/11 villains the Nihil destroy the Beacon, which falls into a local planet and kills a ton of people. Of course the Jedi had good intentions, but so did Ulic, Revan, and the Exile

- in the side storyline, Cohmac Vitus tries to cleanse some evil artifacts and ends up unleashing the Drengir (aka, sanitized Yuuzhan Vong)! This is what inspired me to write this post bc I just read this, and wtf man! It's such a clear example of "don't mess with the dark side if you refuse to study it." This situation really was fine until the Jedi tried to help! He does feel sorry about it too, I wonder of he's gonna turn evil from guilt

- most famously Qui Gon went into the Outer Rim incidentally to his political mission, saved Anakin while he was there with an elaborate Ben Hur reference, but did not save his mom or consider the affects on the community not to mention the boy, which ultimately lead to Darth Vader

- you'd think Luke and Leia going to Tatooine and killing Jabba would make things better, but according to the Mando TV show everything is still pretty fucked over there

hi! I wanted to ask if you had any insight into why diego kills (deactivates?) grace in the beginning of s1. that never really made sense to me. my best guess is that it's because grace was supposed to intervene if anyone's life was in danger, so the fact that she didn't even notice when hazel and cha-cha attacked the house made Diego think she couldn't be trusted. but even then, killing her seems a little extreme. plus, pogo ends up bringing her back like 2 episodes later, so idk that whole storyline just seemed sort of weird to me. any thoughts?

Ooh what a neat ask - thanks for thinking of me for it! I love Diego and Grace's relationship; it's so soft. And Diego shutting her off is a really beautiful scene, imo. The whole point of the arc is a combo: 1) it's plot for figuring out what happened to Reggie and 2) is about Diego and who he is as a character.

Where this all starts from is earlier in the day/ep when the siblings have their meeting to confront that Grace didn't do anything to stop Reggie from kicking the bucket and have their argument of whether or not they need to turn Grace off because she's malfunctioning. Diego is Absolutely Against this plan ("She's not just some vacuum you can shove in the closet!" - which is a great line). Because she's their mother, because he hated their father, because Grace is a person to at least some degree and her life has value and meaning - they can't just shut her off. End of discussion as far as Diego is concerned.

I think the next two scenes with them are key - we have a really lovely montage of Grace being their mom (not just a machine) and being especially caring and supportive to Diego. It establishes who she is/was to the kids and how she should be functioning, to an extent. The next is Diego doing his own investigation into how she's doing, trying to find out if she had purposefully done something to hurt/kill Reggie - if it was on purpose, she might not malfunctioning. She has plenty of motive to hate Reggie for how awful it's hedged he treated her (never allowed to leave the mansion, doesn't even have her own room), she's been alone for 13 years without the children she was literally made to take care of; Diego would not begrudge her taking some action to put an end to Reggie. Hell, he encourages it over her continued, blind, programmed support for Reggie. But she doesn't, so that programming at least is still intact, which means other programming is degrading for her to have not saved Reggie.

Then Hazel and Cha Cha's attack on the Academy comes. Everyone gets out of it fine (except Klaus but we're not talking about him rn). Diego realizes Grace could have been damaged so he runs up to check on her to find....

She hasn't even registered there was an attack. Immediately, this is capital "w" Wrong. Vanya mentions it earlier, that Grace was not only made to care, but to protect - if the Academy was under attack, she should have been up and at least tried to do something to help. Instead, she sat and cross-stitched and didn't even know something was wrong. Not only cross-stitching, but sewing into her own hand and not noticing that she's doing it. Diego cannot ignore that.

His mom is malfunctioning. She might be broken, trending worse, and it seems irreversibly so if she's missing such major things. So, Diego decides to shut her down.

Here, I think your interpretation of the scene is wrong (and this is how I read it, which is what you asked); this is not because he does not trust Grace.

It's because he loves her. It's an act of love.

He loves her so much that he doesn't want to have to watch her continue to degrade, doesn't want her to have to suffer through the degradation, doesn't want her to have to sit and listen to her children discuss turning her off, doesn't want her to sit and have to know it's coming, doesn't want it done by another sibling who might see her as less than their mother. He doesn't know Pogo can fix her; as far as he knows, his mother that he loves very, very much will be dead.

And he still turns her off.

It's been a little bit since I rewatched S1, but if I remember correctly, up until this point Diego has been playing the tough, aloof stereotype. He's the vigilante, he plays fast and loose with the cops, he does his own thing, he's set up as a bit shifty. What we learn from this whole arc is that Diego has a very soft, big heart - he cares a lot - and he is protective of those he loves; things that have only been hinted at before this. He's protective of Grace, to keep his family from jumping to conclusions and prematurely turning her off, and he loves her enough to recognize that his family is right, she is broken, and decides he needs to be the one to turn her off to protect her from worse suffering. He sees it as his duty that she deserves someone who properly loves her to do the deed and be there with her for her final moments.

It fucks him up, we see him the next day upset at Patch's place (conveniently ignoring that he's the one who killed her but, details), but he never goes back to say that he made the wrong choice, never regrets it. He did what he thought he had to do to protect his mother, who he loved very much, and he stands by it.

We learn a lot about Diego in his actions in this arc. And we learn a few more pieces on what happened to good ol' Reginald, to keep the plot moving forward.

zero pressure to explain this to my american ass if you dont have the energy, but like.

whats sweden like, as someone who lives there? im always fascinated to hear about other parts of the world from the people who know them best, and i dont hear much about sweden in general, so ive got a lot to learn.

if thats too broad of a question, some suggestions: how do you feel about the weather, or the politics, or the holidays?

whats a nuisance yall joke about (like, over here in usamerica, its usually the military-industrial complex, or costly healthcare)?

or, whats something unique about sweden, or something that you think more people should know about it?

well we can do this in order of things that pop in my head, very disorganized.

to start of with weather: its getting too hot. the weather is actually pretty comfortable most of the time, and these last summers have been the best ive managed in my experience with heat, but you can tell by the climate that its too hot. its too dry, and theres very little snow during winter. its still cold as fuck, but no snow somehow. I wish it rained more. but on a day to day basis, weathers comfy. A bit windy sometime.

holidays i got very little thoughts on myself. theres a few of them and most are just days off. Im not too fond of the way we celebrate them but then again ive only been allowed to and wanted to drink for 2 years worth of them, so i havent gotten into it yet (yea alcohol is the biggest reason we actually still celebrate things i think)

politics is a fucking hellscape rn. the barely disguised neo-nazi party recently got the most amount of votes in the election so the right wing parties is in control. Theyve already started talking dumb shit about climate politics and immigrants. Not looking up. Beyond that i dont know much about the political landscape.

I dont know what a typical swede complains or jokes about because i dont hang out with a lot of them. I know gas prices is a common thing right now. We also have a trend in comedy calling norwegians idiots, which doesnt make sense because we hate denmark way more.

Its hard to say whats unique or special bout sweden because to be all of it is normal. Only real things you need to know is 1. if a swede tries to claim they cant speak english with you, only plausible conlusion is that they didnt finish middleschool (passing grade in english is mandatory), 2. anything that is a traditional swedish meal is pretty much garbage. Its mostly mildly spiced meat, potatoes, and some sauce similar to gravy.

I guess one thing thats a big difference from the american perspective is how our education looks through the years. First 9 are mandatory, ages 7-15 grade 1-9, in stages called Low, Middle, and High stage. After that, you legally have the choice to keep studying or to do something else (socially and economically you dont have that chocie), and at that point you choose your own education. The most common ones being things like Civics, Naturesciences, Technology, and Fine Arts (Art, Dance, Photo, Music, and theatre). Theres a bunch more but these the top picks. Usually lasts 3 years which after you should be around 18 years old and most of the time expected to apply for uni. And during that time you do get money for going to school (seperate from loans, and not a lot of money).

I can probably provide some more detailed information about what its like here with questions about specific parts, but keep in mind that i also know very little about this country. I just live here

It has been so difficult for Y/N.

The end of their Sixth Year wasn’t supposed to end like this. Their boyfriend should’ve won the Triwizard Tournament, he put so much of his energy and deserved to win the competition.

But that would make life too easy, wouldn’t it?

Voldemort had come back, Y/N didn’t care that they weren’t allowed to say his name, he murdered him. He took Cedric away from them.

It wasn’t fair, none of this was fair.

Y/N had spent so much time already thinking to themselves, what had they done? What could they have possibly have done to deserve to have their love taken from them.

Y/N and Cedric has been together since Third Year, and they were so excited to continue their relationship. Move in together, get married, have or adopt their children.

The dream had been crushed.

Y/N had spent most of their time in Cedric’s dorm after he had died, under his bed covers sobbing themselves to sleep every. single. night. They were thankful that Cedric’s friends were so understanding, not telling them to shut up or stop crying.

The school year was about to end however, and all of Cedric’s belongings were still scattered around the dorm, just like he left it before the The Maze.

Y/N had been desperately trying to not look at the photo of the two of them the entire time, it was painful to see them both happy in that photo. All the memories they had together.

God, how they wished they never met Cedric. That would have stopped the tears falling, stop them from rolling in the deep.

They wanted to take the photo though, it was their favourite picture. Plus they really needed one of Cedric’s jumpers right now, maybe to even keep. Just for his scent. Maybe that would make it less painful.

With a tear stained face, they climbed out of Cedric’s bed. They crouched beside his trunk and started to try and find their favourite jumper.

While lifting out his Hufflepuff knitted jumper, a piece of paper fell, it must have come attached to it. Y/N couldn’t help themselves, they became curious.

What they discovered wasn’t anything Y/N could imagine.

Hi, I'm the person who asked about the Dinah/Oliver recommendations. Your reply was helpful, thank you, I'll at least know what to keep an eye out for.

While I'm here, though. And you look like more of an Oliver Queen blog than a Dinah Lance one so this might, again, not be the right place, but. I'm curious about your opinion on this, if you have one?: The main reason why Dinah and Oliver as a pairing hasn't really worked for me so far is actually not because I prefer her in BoP, but because I started off at the very beginning for her and read the Black Canary solos from the '40s and the couple of stories she co-starred in with Starman in the '60s (I think) and I really liked them. And ever since her character was moved from earth 2 (and had her history changed) I've felt like she gets treated as being less capable than she was before (which is complicated given her history retcon, I know, because she could just be intended to be less capable than her mother was). And I've also felt like, on top of that, that ever since she was attached to Oliver, she tends to get treated more as a supporting character in his life than a character deserving of an equal amount of investment/attention. Not all the time, but often enough that it bothers me and has been the main turn off for me with their relationship because I like her so much. And that's mostly a long-winded way of me asking if you think things between them become more balanced later. Especially since I know Dinah actually starts to get her own solos and starts being involved in more things outside of Oliver, which is why I'm still hopeful even after having read 20-ish years of stuff with them that just hasn't clicked for me 🤔

I do also love Dinah a lot, don’t get me wrong, just because I’m an Ollie stan doesn’t mean I don’t also love Dinah, I’m working on a cosplay of her rn and have also read her appearances beginning in the 40s! And I definitely see this trend too! I think that the shift from Earth-2 to Earth-1 does show a marked change in how capable she’s shown, and I think that even her first comics on Earth-1 show this (thinking specifically of JLA Vol. 1 #75 where some members of the JLA argue that they shouldn’t “let her” put herself at risk despite her skill set.

I think that part of this is the time period in which these comics were written, but I will say that while Green Arrow (1988) and the Grell run definitely do focus on Ollie as it’s… his title that Dinah is very much portrayed as his equal even if the page time tends to lean in favor of Ollie, Dinah’s capability is shown pretty well in these comics imo, it’s not as equal as I’d like it to be (and probably not as equal as you’d like either I’m guessing).

I’d say that we definitely do get things being more equal with them in later comics, as much as I personally dislike BoP, I do love that it gave us Dinah branching out and being in more things and solo comics, and I think that it did inspire later writers to show them more equally. Not all writers are as successful at this as others though.

Honestly I’m kinda obsessed with Ollie and Dinah in the Grell run because like…. They feel real to me? It treats Dinah like a real person who’s allowed to take agency in the relationship and whose anger with things is taken seriously and not just viewed as her being irrational because Ollie’s the title character.

I’d say that Smith and Hester probably do the best job of showing them equally though!

How come ballet is sexist?

oh buddy. not only is ballet sexist but it also objectifies and fetishizes women (esp historically) and its also racist. but the racism part is a whole separate essay. 

ive got midterm brain rn so sadly no sources and this might be a little jumbled but my credits for this are that i am a dance and history major.

so back in i think it was like romantic era france? like mid 1800s. ballet was picking up speed. up until this point women were not really allowed in the social sphere it was like disrespectful i guess and they weren't really in the Public Eye but ballet changed that because it allowed women to 1. have a job and 2. be respected and all that shit. 

this seems good. however with most seemingly good things theres a lot of not good things.

there weren't really any female choreographers at this time. some of the more well known ballerinas did go on to choreograph and teach after they were done performing but the works by male choreographers are mainly the surviving ones. men also weren't really in ballets at this time cause it was “dishonorable” (except in denmark) so that created something of a double standard. men also created pointe specifically for women. it wasn't used the same as it was today at first, it was more like a little hat trick where the woman would go up on her toes for a second. and everyone would uwu. but marie taglioni who was a pretty well known ballerina in that era started doing pointe kinda like todays pointe because she was pushed to do so by her father, philipe taglioni, who just essentially wanted to get famous. and he kinda used his daughter for that. 

but anyway. we have men. notably slightly older men. choreographing and training young women ballet dancers. so ballet is pretty rooted in males choreographing for females. so its a mans vision on a womans body. which is not the best thing. 

also. the costumes. as time went on they gradually became more and more revealing but ballet had always been pushing what was socially acceptable in terms of dress. during the romantic era they showed off the girls ankles (ankles!!) with the tutu to show the feet and that was like. scandalous. and that was a males decision to do so. and then they kept shortening the skirt. 

additionally, male choreographers started favoring a specific body type. which is, also not great. they wanted the girls to look kinda long and twiggy and almost “alien” so the point where it became a trend to want to look like that. and today you still see choreographers favoring certain body types (very skinny, no breasts, lean muscles) to the point where a lot of the choreography can be a lot more difficult if you dont Have that body type. 

so eventually people started objectifying the more famous female ballet dancers, like there was a thing called “tagliomania” where everyone uwued the fuck over marie taglioni. some people in russia actually ate her pointe shoe. it was very similar to the way that celebrities today are ripped apart and judged on every little thing and their bodies are objectified and stuff. 

and then as the years went on all that stayed with ballet. its always been these like middle aged men training and choreographing on these very young girls. many ballet dancers today start as young as 16/17 and retire around 30 while its common for most choreographers and teachers to start at 30. every big ballet choreographer had their favorites and a lot of the time their other dancers would look as close to that person as possible. balanchine literally preferred training younger girls (with his famous baby ballerinas being between 12 and 14 when they were performing nationally with the ballet russes de monte carlo which gets into the whole fetishization thing) 

also think of all the big name ballets. how many of them have been choreographed by women? not many, if any. its acceptable for the women to portray the mans vision but its not acceptable for women to choreograph their own stuff and when they do they are usually met with backlash. 

and then theres just class in general. i take it most of you have never been to a ballet class but there is a lot of touching. the teachers will come over and move your body around to correct you. and youre usually only wearing a leotard and tights. male and female teachers do this to all of their students. and its not always like, just touch your arm or something like sometimes their hands will be on your ass or your chest or your inner leg. same goes for choreography. i was partnering with a guy once and i had to essentially have my face on his crotch for a few seconds. he was excited about that. it was weird. 

and also like. you dont really have a say in not doing that stuff cause. if you won't theres 10 people willing to take your place. so dance very quickly strips you of your modesty. i dont find it weird cause ive been doing it since i was 3 and have become pretty desensitized but. 

and then theres just movements in general. female ballet dancers are expected to be good at turns mainly and pointe. my body is not built for that. i am much better at jumps. but since i go to class with mostly girls we work more on turns than jumps. sometimes if there are combined classes with males and females they will make the males do separate jumping combinations that the girls are not allowed to do. i want to do big fun jumps :/

so anyway theres a lot of issues with ballet. its very elitist, very sexist and there body objectification and fetishization. im sorry i couldn't go into more detail for you right now but i have a paper to finish

Virgil started to spend more time with the popular kids after they got back to school, something he never thought would be happening. They were gossipy and didn’t really appeal to Virgil as overall people but Roman was their friend so he started to get to know them for the sake of his best friend. He didn’t even really know them honestly, they almost never talked about themselves or their interests or anything in terms of personal information, the conversations almost consistently focused on the drama going around the school that day. There was something new every time they went over. For a solid month, he and Roman would go chat for a minute or two before going off to find Patton and Logan.

That was actually what they were just doing that day when one of Roman’s friends got Virgil’s attention.

“Hey Virgil, tell us about yourself, yeah?” one of the girls asked, the guy she was just talking with fixing his gaze on to Virgil too.

Virgil looked over to Madison if he remembered correctly, trying to hide most of his shock at the fact that she even addressed him. Not many of Roman’s friends acknowledged him much when they would go over but Virgil guessed they’d taken some interest in him. He had been coming over with Roman for quite a good while now, it figures they’d notice his presence at some point. He had to respond quick though, this chance couldn’t go to waste. “Uh, ok, what do you want to know?”

“What kind of music do you listen to?” Well, an odd question to start off with.

Virgil shrugged a bit. “Eh, just what everyone else listens to, you know? Not really anything in particular. It’s not like I really look for songs to listen to by anyone specific.”

Roman nudged him with a snort. “Since when has this ever been the case? If there’s one thing I know about you, it’s that you’re emo through and through,” he said, a certain fondness to his look. Virgil bumped his shoulder with a laugh back, fixing him with a playful glare.

“And what if I can like things that you don’t expect of me, huh?” Virgil asked with a slight tease. Roman simply raised an eyebrow but shrugged, letting the argument go without much more of a struggle. Roman wasn’t wrong though, he still listened to everything that he had before, none of it had changed despite what he said. Definitely none of what people usually listened to. He was never one to follow trends with music or otherwise and Roman unfortunately knew that.

“Do you do anything interesting?” one of the people joining the conversation asked.

“Things here and there, not exactly much. School is a drag, takes up way too much of my time to actually let me focus on anything even remotely interesting,” Virgil said calmly, trying to look casual. He hoped it was working, he felt like a nervous wreck. With a few laughs and a “Fuck yeah it is!” he mustered up the courage to add in, “I draw if that counts for anything.”

“Oh yeah? Mind if we take a look?”

Virgil nodded and rummaged through his bag, finding a leather bound book. This one happened to be his more serious one, he had another that was far more personal stashed away. Only Roman, Patton, and Logan ever saw that one, and not even in its full entirety. The personal one had gotten a lot more use than the one currently in his hands. Virgil slid the book over the table and he watched as it was opened to a page of really messy scribbles in the shape of a distraught person’s face. He’d remembered drawing that one, he was in the middle of history sophomore year having a panic attack but was too nervous to ask to step outside.

“Woah, this is cool man,” Tyler said as he looked over it, others nodding in agreement. They proceeded to flip through the pages for a bit while they took turns asking him more questions.

With so much talk, Virgil noticed Roman jump up suddenly, tugging at Virgil’s sleeve frantically. “Pat and Specs!” he explained before packing up his things frantically. “So sorry guys, I need to talk to them before we have to go to class! I’ll catch up with you tomorrow!” he shouted out as he started speed walking, Virgil in tow. Virgil barely managed to collect up his stuff before he was at Roman’s side, seeing the slightest crease between Roman’s eyebrows. As relieved as Virgil was to be away from all of the questions and potential judgement, he noticed Roman was in a big rush. He couldn’t really place why.

“Hey, you uh.. You ok? What’s up?” Virgil asked, relieved as Roman slowed down a little as they turned a corner.

“I just want to get to Pat and Specs, they’re our friends you know?” Roman asked with a bit of an edge before sighing. “Sorry, I just didn’t expect you to uh.. Hit it off so much with them, I usually just say a quick hello really,” he explained.

“Really? You think so?” Virgil really hoped he was impressing the popular kids, they were Roman’s friends after all. If he was having luck with them, he wasn’t going to lose Roman that easily. He couldn’t possibly do that, not when he’d already put so much at risk.

“Yeah but anyone who doesn’t like you how you are is insane,” Roman said lowly. Virgil thought he saw Roman’s jaw clench for a second but he quickly looked ahead of them as Roman glanced over.

Virgil was tackled in a hug by Patton, causing him to smile as he hugged back. He didn’t smile for long though as the bell rang, causing Roman to sigh. He looked over, laughing a little awkwardly. “Ha, sorry Ro, didn’t mean to make us so late.”

Roman shrugged. “It’s ok, just means we’ll have to get here as soon as possible tomorrow!” With that, he and Logan started to talk as they headed to class together.

Virgil watched as Roman walked away from him and Patton and he frowned slightly before Patton was nudging his shoulder and nodding his head to the direction of their classes.

Virgil nodded back and started walking, burying his hands deep into his pockets. He really wished he had his usual hoodie to pull over his head and hide from the world. His bangs would have to do, giving him a good look at the sickeningly sweet pink he’d decided on a month prior. Who let him do that again?

“Hey, you ok?” Patton asked, silently offering Virgil a cookie. Snickerdoodle today, Virgil would’ve usually loved it.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Virgil told him. “I’m not hungry, thanks though.”

Patton looked at him with a worried look for a second before sighing, taking a bite of the cookie himself. “Alright Virge, if you say so. Who knows, maybe some rest is all you need, make sure you go easy on yourself!”

Virgil agreed, looking ahead of them.

He went home that day and went through the motions in a haze, glad when he finally got out of his disgustingly bright outfit. He stared blankly at the wall when he got a text from Roman.

“Hey, sorry I was so tense where we left things off.. I promise you didn’t do anything, that was all me.”

“What was up with that?” Virgil texted back.

Roman’s response took a minute before it popped up on Virgil’s screen. “I don’t know, I just didn’t expect them to really take such an interest in you. They can be a bit... Stuffy. Like, all the time, I much prefer hanging out with you, Pat, and Specs.”

“I mean, they’re your friends right? They asked me questions, I answered.”

“Yeah, that’s true. Some of your answers surprised me though lol, you are truly a dark and stormy knight after all!”

“Hey, I’m allowed to expand my tastes, aren’t I? You got me into some of your dumb musicals after all.”

“They are not dumb, take that back you jerk!”

Virgil snorted, hugging his pillow to his chest as he typed out another message. “Oh yeah? Make me, you pompous thespian drama queen.”

“I just might!”

Before Virgil could respond, Roman shot him a quick text reading “Shit, GTG, I need to run a few scenes before I sleep! Until tomorrow~!”

“Go chase your dreams of ‘professional make believe’ as Logan would say, night.”

As an afterthought, Virgil tacked on a red heart before blushing harshly, cursing into his hands. He really did that, no taking that one back now was there?

Either way, check in time. Roman was still his friend, they just had a normal conversation like two human beings ought to be able to have. While he seemed a little off-put by some of the changes Virgil was talking about, he didn’t seem to take it as a serious offense so a plus there. The clothes were horrible, Virgil still hated his hair, but he was doing this for Roman so he’d suck it up. Roman’s friends were starting to like him, they liked his art so that was good. Luckily they latched on to something he couldn’t lie about.

Just as Virgil was about to go to bed, another notification popped up on his phone, this time from an unknown number. Virgil stared at it for moment, his brow furrowed. He opened it though and read it.

“Hey Virgil, this is Madison! Got ur number from Roman’s phone lol, hope u don’t mind sweetie!”

Well, he kind of did mind but putting that aside-

“Hi, did you need anything?”

“Not rn but I might! Just wanted to have ur number just in case. Anyways, I’m going to bed, see u tomorrow!”

Virgil nodded to himself before he got one more text.

“BTW loveeeee ur artwork, keep up the good work bby!”

This was certainly... Bizarre. He didn’t expect to ever have the number of a popular girl in his phone but he never knew high school would be this insane. He’d survive this though, for Roman if nothing else. And if not, he just might lose Roman forever and never be able to forget about it for as long as he lives! Ok, breathe Virgil, breathe...

Things would work out, Virgil was going to make sure they did or die trying. Nobody, Roman included, could think to stop him now.

To be honest, I’m not sure how to feel about this one. I feel like all of my writings sound like they’re in an echo chamber. Like as if the events are completely isolated and don’t fit into an expansive narrative and existence. I have no idea if that makes a bit of sense, it might just be my depression tbh? It’s been kicking my butt more than usual.

But Virgil is finally getting noticed by the popular kids, woohoo! This obviously can’t go wrong! We shall see what Virgil will be getting up to with time!

tbh i think what ur doing rn w the cws above the readmores and actual content is fine? it doesn’t expose more than, for example, a sa tw tag bc tumblr would still show what tag was being filtered out. i’m also fairly sure blocking u would make ur posts not show up in tags so if it’s a huge problem people can just block u

i suppose it's somewhat self-evident that i feel it is sufficient. if i didn't, i would do more.

ultimately, i know what is realistic to expect of myself, and that's written cws and readmores. tumblr gives you the tools to block out text as well (i've got one of my triggers blocked because it's a common trigger and squick that people don't fucking tag you think you do but you don't), and like. i'd want people to block me if what i do isn't enough because i can't promise more than that.

i think it is Unreasonable to expect me to not tag characters, as angst is part of what some people want (there was that Excellent mistystar drowns leopardstar comic in the leopardstar tag, for example), not to mention it's something i do for myself (my frustration at not being able to find my tigerstar drowns leopardstar scene, for example, and i was Lucky i had saved the draft of the post). especially since i have given you a tag to block if you don't want to see it.

with that in mind, there are triggers and squicks that are hard to block if one doesn't tag them. cults, for example. at no point does cult come up in the text, and it's frankly not something i usually include in a content warning.

so i do think asking me to tag that, and adding an abuse tag, is reasonable. my response is, i'll do my best but i can't guarantee anything.

i thought the way they wanted me to do that was unreasonable, so i asked for some input and found a solution that would allow people to avoid content they don't want to see.

you know -- i'm happy to do my best to provide tags. and i think on my end, as a content creator, it is reasonable to expect people to block tags they don't want to see. you know?

content warnings may be a new trend (god, does anyone else remember opening a fic on ffn and not knowing the hell you were getting into?), but it's a good trend imo, and one i'm happy to promote. i have personal reasons for some of what i do, and i have memory problems, and i'm a person, so i can't be perfect.

i, as an angst Creator and Consumer, and as a fic Writer, was admittedly somewhat affronted by the initial ask, not because of the request itself, but because it phrased it as though character tags exist purely for (feel-good) fanart. i assume the anon did not mean it this way (rsd is a bitch), but i Felt Like, "should i not tag 'for moments that we stole' with #squirrelflight, then?" again, not saying anyone Meant That, i'm just sharing what I Thought.

that's like. it's. i get really, really anxious about this. i'm Always Concerned i will not tag or warn for something. that's Part of why i prefer written out warnings to tag warnings, as well as: they're up top. you can't miss them.

if, for example, i don't want to see...drowning. if that's not something i want to see, but i hadn't thought of blocking it, and the only warning is in a tag, i don't know that going in. and that feels wrong to me. and yes, i could do both, and i do for csa, but that's the only promise i make. that, while i cannot provide a 100% guarantee of anything, i am very serious about tagging for it.

but anyway, it's kind of like. when i scroll through a character tag, fanart is great, but there's nothing like -- finding a new fic for them. and so like. again i don't think the anon meant this in the slightest, but it was phrasing that just bugged me.

i say all of this as like. i guess an example of how. there is not one good/reasonable approach. there are many.

when it comes to warnings and tags, my goal is always to provide people the ability to choose what they want to consume. that's why i put things under readmores and put cws up top. i understand skipping posts on mobile is hard, and i'll admit lately my standards for "requires a readmore" have gone up, but still -- i feel that approach is reasonable and sufficient. you have been warned; if you choose to continue consuming, that's on you.

however, it is equally reasonable to say, "i think you should tag cws." well, i won't (in a general sense), but i can do my best to be more compatible with that approach. if that means...i don't usually write a cw for cult, and people want me to, i will try to tag #cults. that's an equally reasonable request.

anyway this was supposed to be wrap-up. uh. real conclusion.

i think what i am doing is sufficient, or i'd be doing more. however, i respect that other people have different "protocols" for this, and i can do my best to be compatible with that.

i'm also -- before i wrap up, i just want to say, i do appreciate everyone being calm and rational during the discussion. it feels like something i shouldn't have to say, but i'm sure we've all been on the internet long enough to know that's not always what happens. it would have been easy for someone to be quite angry with me, and i'm just glad that they weren't.
