Repost @vivis_life_journey
"One of the most beautiful summer festival I’ve ever seen in Japan.
The Noshiro Tenku no Fuyajo Council’s “Tanabata Festival - Lantern Castles in the Sky” is a mesmerizing annual event held in Noshiro, Akita Prefecture.
Since 2008, this festival has enchanted visitors with its spectacular display of large, intricately designed lanterns resembling traditional Japanese castles floating in the night sky. Celebrated as part of the Tanabata Festival, it honors the legendary meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi.
This is not considered a big scale festival so there were more locals than tourists during the festival and it wasn’t too crowded so it’s easy to get beautiful photos and footages they also opened up time for everyone to get closer to the lantern castles to shoot!
Held every year during August 2nd-3rd."

Softest tones for this summer outfit, pairing a lovely obi with embroidered kani (crab), and a kimono full of cute seasonal patterns:
Tanabata/star festival themed: tanzaku (paper strips on bamboo), hoshi (star)
Summer treats : kaizukushi (assorted shells), suika (watermelon),
masturi/festival themed: mizufuusuen/water balloon, uchiwa (round fan), kingyo (goldfish), chouchin (paper lantern), etc

I don't have a well-organized thesis on this or anything, but it seems like no one trying to "intepret" Junji Ito's Uzumaki ever figures out what the deal is with Kirie and Shuichi and it's absolutely wild to me because I've always thought it was obvious.
Everything is happening around Kirie the entire time, whereas Shuichi is always the first one to realize what's happening and was even the first to get caught up in it.
Kirie never leaves Korozu-cho, Shuichi used to leave it every day. He's on the outside, she's in the middle, but somehow he's the one that experiences everything fully while Kirie seems to be really laissez-faire about it all.
The story comes to an end only when the two of them are together in the city down below—because Shuichi is the human manifestation of the outside of the spiral, where there's the most distance to cover, and Kirie is the human manifestation of the center, where things are spinning so fast they're basically standing still.
Everyone else sits somewhere along the spiral between them, but without them the entire thing unravels. They're the beginning and end of the curse, bookends on the events happening in their town. That's why they're in love, that's why there's never a question about how devoted they are to one another, that's why when Shuichi reaches the "center" and can't move anymore, Kirie immediately chooses to stay.
In reaching the center of the spiral, they're finally in the same place, and that means it can be over. That means it can start.
That means they did their part.
They're home.
