What are your overall thoughts on Katherine Pierce? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you talk about her.
My personal opinion: Everyone always says she did terrible things in the her 500 years and make it seem like she had a choice in the matter, when she really didn’t. She didn’t have a choice in general regarding the direction her life went, she would be hunted by Klaus.
I think majority of the things we see her do is justifiable or can be explained: it was for survival. If the protagonists gang doing immoral things for survival is justified, then why can’t Katherine? Speaking of protagonists, I absolutely despise the fact that she’s the villain when characters like Damon or Klaus do so much worse.
You're not going to like this one.
I don't talk about Katherine Pierce very often because I'm just not a fan.
I'm going to preface this by saying this is just my opinion and it doesn't mean liking Katherine is wrong. People tend to get offended when I don't like their favorite characters or ships, but it's just my opinion.
This is going to need some TW: SA/Rape
For me, I have a few deal breakers for characters and one of them is SA and rape. I know there is a lot of debate in the fandom about Katherine and Damon, but I've said it before, what Katherine did to Stefan is rape. She took away his autonomy and continued to have sex with him multiple times. No wonder when he turned into a vampire he hated her. I could never just move past this. I get a lot of what she does is for survival, but that was not. I can justify a lot of behavior because I think people can be pushed into situations where they do terrible things, but what Katherine did to Stefan has no justifiable reason.
But I can put that aside and talk about her as an overall character.
To me, Katherine had more of a choice in her life than a lot of the fandom gives her credit for. What the Mikaelsons and her own family did to Katherine when she was a teenager was beyond awful, but it doesn't blanket justify the next 500 years. Just like what Mikael did to Klaus doesn't justify the next 1000 years.
I would be more likely to feel more sympathy for Katherine if we saw any kind of evidence that she was living in fear for 500 years of Klaus. But we just don't see that. During the time she is supposed to be running for her life, we see the Mikaelsons hanging out in New Orleans never once thinking about her. Now we can insert some headcanons and say that the Mikaelsons had their network of vampires out there hunting Katherine, but we don't see that from Katherine's perspective either.
When she meets the Salvators she is just hanging out with them. I won't even get into her problematic relationship with Emily right now. But the Katherine we meet in the 1800s is acting like life is all just a game and inserts herself between brothers just for fun. The show just needed to spend more time showing her running or even just showing that Klaus even remembered she existed. To me, Katherine could have just settled down somewhere and stopped causing havoc and been safe. Much like Klaus from Mikael.
Katherine is the only person to know that she had a child and there was a possibility of more dopplegangers. Seeing as how she treated Elena, I'm honestly surprised she didn't seek out her doppleganger sooner to turn her over to Klaus. I personally headcanon that's why she ended up in MF. She was tracking down her ancestor to trade them for her own freedom and got distracted by the brothers.
I do think there is a lot of misogyny in the fandom and Katherine does face a bit of it. Her and Damon are essentially the same character and I have definitely seen her criticized for things that Damon is applauded for. But at the same time, I think Elena gets it a lot worse because of Katherine. Katherine is not a girls girl and is constantly making misogynistic comments. She criticizes Elena for the exact same thing she is envious of Elena. And it's not like Elena had some blessed life that Katherine missed out on. Elena also lost her entire family. I do think Elena had more of a support system, but that is in spite of Katherine's best efforts. Like Elijah points out, Elena was "fated to live the same life that [Katherine] endured" and a lot of that was because of Katherine.
To me, I think they needed to let the villains be the villains and that was something I appreciated with Katherine. Because, yes, she had a tragic past, but no, she didn't need to do a lot of what she did. The fact that half her motivations throughout the show was just trying to get Stefan back or ruin Elena's life made her more of a villain than a protagonist. What she did to Stefan, Elena, Mason, Caroline, etc. makes her a villain. I once saw someone say she only kills when necessary, but the scene at the party where she so easily kills a teenager to prove a point to Stefan makes me disagree. Much like all of the villains, she kills without reason or care. I wish they had gone more into her dark past to really cement her as a villain, but I actually like that they never redeem her.
I love a good villain and even more so when it's a woman. But, like I said, Katherine just went to far with Stefan and I can't look past it. I also didn't find her Stefan obsession that compelling. Or her hatred of Elena. I liked the season when she grows close to Nadia and when she did try and help Stefan with his PTSD, but other than that, I didn't find her to be a compelling character. Although, I absolutely love her entrance into the show. It will always be iconic.
Thanks for the ask! I don't get a lot of them from TVD so it's always fun to talk about!

People seem to forget that when Aegon and Helaena were married it wasn't just Helaena who was a child but Aegon as well. They both were teenage parents and clearly didn't even want to be married to each other so seeing people make Aegon this big pedo for marrying his sister (forcefully by the way, he had no say in this) really grinds my gears.

do you ever think about how snape actively chose be a crap teacher? like harry went from sucking at potions, to be top of his class, just by getting different instructions from snape. instructions not written to be followed by someone else, and likely written by a literal child. like this was his high school textbook, and his annotations are still better than anything anyone is teaching.
like he could have been one of the best teachers ever, if he was just a bit more patient and not such a dick to literal confused kids.

Things I should not have to say:
Don't threaten to blow up pro-shippers on social media. That's called a terroristic threat. Don't even joke about it. You might think it's funny and it might get a few eye rolls from the adults in the room, but the DoJ/FBI/Homeland Security/People it gets reported to have no sense of humor.
Trust me. I work with them. I swear any sense of humor gets trained out of them.
At best, they're going to knock on your door and explain to your parents/partners/assorted housemates what you're doing online. At worst, it's a no knock raid because they think you're a terrorist.
All it takes is one person reporting what you said. What may be an obvious joke to you probably isn't to the team of people going through the cyber tip line. While you might be joking, Cletus in Montana with the pile of tannerite talking about how he wants to blow up the government probably isn't. There have been too many Cletuses recently for online threats to be ignored.
TL;DR: Don't be a fucking dumb ass and make threats on social media. It's a good way to ruin your life.

Season 8: Buck DID NOT buy a new couch!
The one in his loft that Timbuktu slept on in 8x5 is the same one Margaret bought for him after the lightning strike in 6x11!
Ok... I've seen some posts about Timbuktu sleeping on Buck's couch (I'm making a separate post about that and all BT scenes in 8x5 because I think I've figured out what the show was trying to do and express but it'll be separate from this one) and some people think Buck bought a couch with Natalia but HE DIDN'T.
Here's the proof.
In 8x5, Tonka Toy was sleeping on Buck's couch but if you take a good look at it, you'll see it's the same one Buck tried sleeping on in 6x12 and it's the one Kameron gave birth on in 6x18. (I put them side by side so they can be seen better.)
In 6x18, Kameron went into labor and Buck helped her deliver her and Connor's baby (I still don't believe the child is biologically related to Buck and I've already done several posts about it) but the point is she's on the same couch Toy Story lays down on in 8x5.
6x18
8x5
It's the same couch and it still has the same blue throw blanket on it. In 6x18, it was behind Kameron's head and in 8x5, Tonsilitis used it as a cover.
Now I think there are three possibilities here since Buck tried to get the couch cleaned at the end of 6x18.
He found some better cleaners and they were able to remove the stains.
He replaced the cushion where the stains were.
He bought the same couch his mother purchased to replace the old one.
I don't think option #3 is the best one because Buck didn't want his mom to buy him one but since she wouldn't listen after he was discharged from the hospital (she never does), he told Maddie to let her do what she wanted.
Option #2 is plausible but because the cushion appears to be attached to and embedded into the back and the sides of it, I don't think that's the right option either.
Option #1 appears to be the best one because stains can be removed from leather with the right type of solvents and cleaning materials.
The point of this post is Buck didn't buy a new couch; he still has his old one which means it's possible the couch theory is still in play. The number of callbacks that have been made to previous seasons since 8x1 aired have been astronomical and I wouldn't put it past Tim and Co. to use it as a point of reference too. Apparently, most of the old OG writers are gone and were replaced but some are still there (TW the one who wrote 8x5 is still there but it's unclear why) so the ideas on how to further retcon or reincorporate old ideas from previous seasons are obviously continued conversations in the writers' room.
Reminder, Buck still hasn't found the right person for himself (EDDIE) so it's likely he'll keep the couch his mother bought until he makes the decision for himself.
After 7x4 aired, in an interview, OS said the couch theory was a season 6 thing but I don't think it's over. If it was, they would have put a NEW COUCH in Buck's loft but they didn't, hence him finding the right couch with Eddie is still the only option.
Just saying.
I've done several posts about Buck's couch and they're linked here, here and here. Also, I did a post about what I believe the destruction of the couch meant and it's linked here and the last one I'll link (it's not the last post I did about the couch) is the one about how no one sat on Buck's couch in 6x13 (linked here).
Eddie's couch is still the right couch for Buck and that's why he still has the old one.

Hellooo how are you
Just out of curiosity and complete respect, why do you not like the fanon marauders?
hihi !! there's a lot of reasons tbh. here's a very very short tldr.
have you read, or heard of, the webtoon 'boyfriends'? if that webtoon was a massive fandom - it would be this one. the marauders fandom is fetish content, straight porn, has no personality. it's giving gacha life mini movie made in 2014. not joking. it's giving wattpad, it's giving y/n. wolfstar is bible and i am about to burn it.
sirius is a one-dimensional twink. he is stupid (if he's smart it HAS to be clarified he's still remus' bitch), overdramatic, a cry-baby, a sex slut, constantly bullied, short, and generally just number two. he's abused, sure, but it's nothing explored besides how it affects his relationship with remus.
i hate it. he's such such such an interesting character. i want to cry every time i think of him. he went through so much and he's reduced to something that can't even be called a caricature of him, but just a weird bitch. moreover, i literally cannot believe the ONLY thing that's the same is how much he suffers. literally every univgerse, bro can NOT catch a break. square up tt marauders fandom.
for remus ugh ugh ugh he turns into the one, 1, uno, i, thing he did not want to be. a werewolf. he is literally fenrir greyback. he's a sex-addicted, abusive, druggie!! he's fucking fight club!! he's mean and egoistical, that's not him. there is literally, literally, no reason to do this. he's reduced to your average bad boy, he has daddy issues. that's fucking pathetic, because the only reason it's thought necessary that he has them is because discrimination is invalid and parental abuse is the only thing the marauders fandom will take seriously. not when it is sirius, though, no because he's dumb and stupid and a cockslut.
and james? i cannot explain how much i despise jegulus. i cannot. i cant. james is a stupid himbo people pleaser with no self esteem . go the fuckk awayyyy im not even. im too tired to explain this.
and peter. i never rant about him. god. i hate his entire fanon character. he was left out, it's canon!! but he wasn't a loser!! he was well-liked, he was a marauder he was intelligent enough to become an animagus - in fanon it's all gone. he's so ............. side character. he doesnt have a personality. he's all the traits you kinda want your characters to have but it doesn't fit so you put them on peter instead. i just. i like him a lot. i hate how he's watered down by the fandom who claims that they 'love young peter'.
this is like a short ass response but uhh yeah. i tried to be nice but like the marauders fandom and fanon is. wow.

Hot Take : Luke Castellan is what the Star Wars fandom PRETENDS Anakin Skywalker is
Hear me out. The "main" view of the Star Wars Fandom on Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader is : -fallen hero who only wanted what's best for his friends/family/those he loves -manipulated by an evil old guy since he was young -rebelled against a corrupt and unfeeling organization/system (the Jedi in the fandom's eyes, which is fucking bullshit btw. The Jedi wre ANYTHING but that) -became a villain largely due to circumstance AND/OR being pushed into it -did some horrible horrible shit but ultimately forgiven bc he did what's right at the end by sacrificing himself -full of angst throughout his villain phase -An abuse victim to some degree from the evil overlord -very clearly still cared for the people he loved that remained on the good guy's side.
That list is basically just Luke. Say what you want, that's him. I mean, okay he hasn't died yet/sacrificed himself for the right thing as far as I know (currently at the end of The Titan's Curse, please doin't spoil me you guys) But other than that ?`Everything just straight up applies. Luke's just fandom Anakin.
#star wars#percy jackson#luke castellan#anakin skywalker#jedi positive#btw if anyone wants to come to my comments and be like- anit jedi or something#or tell me that Anakin IS all those things#they are getting blocked#fandom Anakin isn't Luke#he's genuinly just a whiny selfish bitch baby and I will die on this hill
