#is that it probably wouldn’t just be the one Hamato sibling trying to get the others to join their side

I know that Hamatos are all really confused about what happened to Donnie, but I can see April getting legitimately pissed and starting down every lead she can find to dig up the truth detective style. Because messing with people and being a bully is one thing, but manipulating and abusing someone enough to change their personality is another. And she messed with HER family. And “you’ve done it now- when I get you I swear to god-“
Not sure if April would find anything but I can see her initial reaction being frustration rather than confusion.
@starrobot96 @snipersiniora
I’m honestly leaning more towards Raph and April having the most intense reactions to what’s been done to Donnie. Raph, because he’s still dealing with his own Krang trauma. So Kendra messing with his little brother, similar to what was done to him. That’s gonna make him want to rip her apart. I don’t think he’d kill her. But Kendra is definitely not getting out of this Scott free.
Raph will more than likely be leading the charge in Donnie’s rescue, because I don’t think he would go with them willingly, and Raph’s not about to make Leo or Mikey be the one to drag Don away while he’s screaming and resisting. Raph would take that role solely onto himself.
Leo is way out of his comfort zone. During the actual search, he’s more serious than he’s been since the invasion. Thinking that everything will be okay once they can just get Donnie home. But when they do, one desperate, good-natured joke has Donnie terrified of even looking at Leo. From then on, Leo makes that distance bigger, by avoiding Donnie, scared of setting of another panic attack. Even when Donnie starts to reach out, Leo is now hesitant to say anything. That was their whole type of sibling dynamic, ribbing and joking with each other. But now Donnie is like a stranger.
Mikey really hammers away with the toxic positivity. It’s not his fault. He’s just so out of his depth. He’s not a baby, but this is intense stuff. Trauma that he always steered away from in his Dr. Feeling research. But now that knowledge is necessary…looking into it really takes a toll on his own mental well being, bad enough that Splinter sees and puts a stop to it.
April is frustrated with her own investigative ability, and feels guilty, because Kendra wouldn’t have even known about Donnie, if she hadn’t asked him to come by her school. We know, that’s more than likely NOT true, as the boys run into criminals all the time, but April isn’t thinking logically.
Im still not sure about the exact how’s of Donnie’s rescue, but April will probably be the one he latches onto most in the aftermath. The fake simulations with her, were never as bad as the ones with his brothers (ie physically painful) so even though he would be scared to talk to her, and be seen as annoying, Donnie will let her get the closest to help him. He goes from trying to desperately please Kendra, to trying to desperately please April, and it makes her insanely uncomfortable. But she doesn’t want to scare him off when he’s not giving any of them many openings to help. She has to be very careful with walking that line between helping Donnie recover, and making things worse by enabling all of Kendra’s programming.
April’s really gonna carry the brunt of Donnie’s recovery.

Yandere turtles (all of them) kidnapping a reader they view as a sibling? Maybe even mutating said reader into a mutant turtle? Ps: if I need to give pronouns, can reader be GN or male?
I LOVE YOU ANON- sorry me just being eccentric but yes you didn’t specify separate or not so I’m doing it as separate and they’re the same age as Mikey who in this is 15 Donnie and Leo 16 and Raph 17 (this is before the kraang incident and before the shredder thing)
platonic or romantic: platonic
fic or headcannons: headcannons
reader: GN
Raph
He would be more chill than his brothers with kidnapping you
he would probably stalk you first before doing anything drastic but if you get hurt oh boy this turtle would be livid
he would instantly kidnap you if you got hurt then proceed to mercilessly pound whatever being hurt you
he would keep you locked up in the room he made for you but if you’re good he’ll let you roam about the lair
if you’re not he’ll chain you up against your wall or to a chair and he’d feed you and make sure you kept yourself safe
as your older brother he would treat you like Mikey but to a bigger extent because y’know yandere
“Please stop struggling Y/N as your older brother it’s my duty to keep you safe why don’t you understand”
his brothers and S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N would try and keep you here because in this scenario they’re yanderes too and splinter would be like “as long as they don’t interrupt my tv shows it’s fine that you’re keeping them here red”
if you escape savage Raph will make a huge appearance he’ll search high and low looking for you and once he finds you (he will even if he has to force Donnie to help) he’ll keep you chained up except for when you guys are watching a family movie or when he takes you for walks because exercise is important to this big spikey boy
Donnie
-he would be third most likely to kidnap you out of his brothers
-but same as Raph if you got hurt he wouldn’t hesitate to kidnap you only he wouldn’t beat up your assailant he would most likely use his tech to slowly cause them to go insane in some way
-escape? Hahaha you’re funny this turtle won’t let you out of arms length for one millisecond
-the closest you’d get to escaping is if Donnie was out on a mission and he left you with S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N and of course this dude will use any and every excuse to rebel against Donnie and he’d unchain you but make sure you didn’t leave because he knows Donnie would go ballistic if he saw you got out
-he would have a feeding mechanism installed into the chair he chained you up to so he could work on his inventions without being distracted
-he’s like your older brother so he treats you like he treats Mikey for the most part with head pats
-he would most likely mutate you into a turtle or even if not a turtle he would definitely catch an oozesquito and have it bite you
-I’m sorry my little sibling don’t cry your mutation will be over soon and the pain will go away just stop struggling” “w-why are you doing this” “well if you must know as a mutant you can’t leave you’d have no choice but to stay here it’s not as if you had a choice though”
Leo
-he would be second most likely to kidnap you
-his main way to keep you around wouldn’t be to chain you up but he’d slowly manipulate you with snap things like “I heard from April that (insert friend’s name here) said they really didn’t like you and wish you would leave them alone”
-he would kind of slowly coax you into staying with him until he got too impatient and just up and kidnapped you
-now Leo would often brag about the things he’s done like when he helped defeat meat sweats or hypno for the first time you got two earfulls of how awesome the great Leonardo’s Hamato was in battle
-DO NOT feed his ego just nod and smile no questions or compliments if you say anything he will be all “why do you think that huh is your big brother just too cool for your human brain to understand”
-escape? Possibly but he’d portal his way to you randomly and pull you right back to the lair after yelling at you for running away he’d chain you up in his room and sometimes he’d read his comics to you
-he’d look to his twin to help mutate you so you wouldn’t leave him again
-he would only hurt you if you really misbehaved or hurt him but it wouldn’t be too bad maybe a cut the worst would be a broken bone but not your neck or spine but a few ribs or an arm he wouldn’t have an issue
-“listen Y/N I don’t want to make this any harder than it needs to be so just stop struggling k?”
Mikey
-he would be the most likely to kidnap you
-he would take you to the lake at the drop of a hat being that you’re like a twin to him
-he would keep you chained up but only if you misbehaved
-anytime he created something it reminded him of you and he would leave it on a little table for you to look at and like Leo NEVER compliment him for the same reason except he would react like “wowyoureallyloveitthatmuchijustknewyouwouldtwinsibling”
-he would never hurt you but he would take away your food and water for a day at most
-escape? Fat chance he’s always near you some way or another and if you even tried to escape he’d chain you up and never let you go
-he wouldn’t mutate you but he would make you feel guilty if you said you wanted to go home
-“Y/N you’re my twin and I just want to keep you safe I care about you so much please stay *puppy dog eyes*”

What do y’all think the turtles favorite kids movies would be (not their favorite movies as kids but their favorite kids movies that they still like as adults. If that makes any sense)?
Leo: Treasure Planet
Because he loves adventure! And it’s literature! (He loves the book itself and the Muppet adaptation as well). And it’s about space! He’s been to space! And the actual reason is the father-son themes. The way Jimbo so desperately needs a dad would 1) remind Leo of himself, not because he lacks that but because it resonates with him how important that relationship is and 2) make him want to adopt this angry teenager trying to save his family and the world by himself not that it reminds him of anyone.
I do think Jimbo would remind him of both himself and Raph. He’s 15 when his adventure starts too. He would love that there are elements that would make him think of each brother (Mikey probably said ‘go Delbert, go Delbert,’ to hype himself up for literally everything for at least a couple days every time they watched it, Donnie would simultaneously love Delbert and find him annoying, wow it’s mostly Delbert huh). Besides let’s be real Captain Amelia is his idol. At 12 he wanted to be just like her when he grows up and he still wants to just like her when he’s 16, 24, 30 etc.
Raph: Brother Bear
This one took me the longest to settle on, but I do think this is Raph’s movie. Coming of age, what masculinity means, sibling bonds, the devastation of losing a family member, being afraid of other people wanting to hurt you and your loved ones only to have to face the monster within yourself. The fact that Denahi blames Kenai for Sitka’s death, I think would cut Raph deep (he’s afraid of failing to protect or maybe even accidentally hurting people he cares about, he’s also afraid of rejection and judgment). Kenai facing up and taking responsibility for his mistakes (which are really the mistakes of his entire people) would hit a chord with him for sure, and overall the themes of forgiveness. He would find Koda soooo annoying and also immediately love him soooo much. The themes of the spirit world would secretly make him think about Hamato Yoshi and the connection he and his brothers have with him.
He would pretend to hate the two moose, but yet he is the one who keeps picking this movie… (squints suspiciously)
Donny: The Iron Giant
This was my initial thought and I tried to dismiss. I said to myself, girrrl that’s so surface level, he wouldn’t just pick the movie with a cool robot, dig a little deeper and find something with jokes he’d laugh at and themes that’d resonate with him.
But the thing is. It’s Iron Giant. Themes of greed vs innocence, war vs peace? Donny always gets those types of side quests, like how close he is with Fugitoid and the aliens him and April found Augie. He’s the dreamer; the possibility of a peaceful world is on his mind and in his motivations. There’s also Hogarth feeling socially isolated because he’s so smart, which you know Don’s situation is pretty different but still, there’s definitely some relatability there. And plus guys, the Iron Giant not understanding where he came from, not knowing if he has a soul or not—super relevant to the turtles, and particularly Don who was the first to recognize the TCRI initials (and therefore in my heart the one who has been most consistently curious about his origins). Interesting thing too—Donny does seem to worry about Splinter and worrying about his mom is definitely an important thing going on with Hogarth. Then there’s Dean, who I think would remind him of Kirby. It’s a movie that invites further research too, it really places itself in history. Don would love both researching and lecturing whoever makes the mistake of watching it with him (poor Angel lol she is not prepared).
And in the end, it’s a cool freaking robot. He would absolutely be obsessing over the design and doodling ideas about making his own.
Mikey: Lilo and Stitch
I think our monster movie connoisseur would love the idea of Stitch. Jumba and Pleakley is his otp of all time. He tells everyone he loves the movie for Pleakley’s head getting eaten and Lilo’s photography and voodoo and Stitch taunting Captain Gantu with his butt against the window, and yeah it is very much his brand of humor. But everyone knows he cries at the ugly duckling scene absolutely without fail, and usually the wishing on a star theme, and definitely the “this is my family.” Found family is something all the turtles would appreciate in art but I think especially Mikey. That and, he loves quoting entire scenes. Especially the tuna fish sandwich scene, Bubble’s first visit, and Jumba’s chase down with Stitch (“oh good, my dog found the chainsaw”).
Also he loves the music. I mean who doesn’t?

Hamato Sirani: Lou Jitsu
Month 5
One thing the brothers learned quickly was that Sirani held a strong grudge for a small toddler. The night when they argued she didn't sneak over to Donnies bed so he'd read to her. She didn't even try to sneak into his bed after the lights were supposed to be out. She didn't want to learn about dinosaurs or new words or whatever Donnie offered.
He was surprised when he woke up the next morning and she wasn't curled into his side.
She even held a grudge against Raph and Leo.
With Raph, she wouldn't let him hold her while he read her stories. She wouldn't let him help her grab anything from high places either. It didn't matter if it was her tiger that Splinter had put out of her reach when she refused to eat the green foods on her plate, she wouldn't let him help.
With Leo, she didn't watch his magic shows. She didn't watch them, she didn't laugh at them, and she wasn't amazed at them. She didn't want to watch any shows with him or watch him reenact a scene from a movie.
The only one she didn't treat differently was Mikey.
Whenever Leo asked if she wanted to watch him do a trick on the skateboard she turned her head, grabbed the crayons Mikey let her borrow, and went off to find her orange masked brother.
They would draw together for hours (Splinter made sure it was only on paper).
Their rat dad found some stickers and that was probably the worst thing he could have given the two. Stickers appeared on Mikeys shell, their fridge, the walls, even the ceiling.
Lucky for the other four living in the sewers, the grudge phase was over soon.
Well, on the outside anyway.
Her older brothers words may have been forgotten after a month, but the meaning behind it wasn't.
She wanted to be just like them.
She wanted to run and play at their sides.
So she pushed herself.
She shouldn't need them to help her.
She could be independent.
With help from Mikey, of course.
With his assistance she got amazing at standing and walking.
He'd hold her hands as she took shaky steps forward. He'd cheer her on whenever she tried by herself. He proudly showed her skills off to Splinter and their older brothers once she got better at it.
Splinter saw how the two were able to help each other and moved Sirani into Mikeys room.
Donnie and Leo now had to share, much to their dismay.
But things were going good for the younger two.
Sirani followed Mikey everywhere he went.
And he loved it.
Wherever he walked, she was right behind him.
Whatever he did, she was doing it to.
When some time after the fight had passed, they found a new normal.
Sure, she didn't read with Donnie every night, but now she watched him work on his latest invention: his battleshell. She didn't know why he was making it but it was his first project that took longer than a week. It had to be important.
She didn't watch Leo's magic shows but now they both were up late at night, searching the kitchen for late night snacks. It didn't start out as a tradition but when they'd both snuck in at the same time every night it just became a habit.
She didn't let Raph read to her anymore, but they both woke up on early Saturday mornings to watch Lou Jitsu movies together. She would sit right in his lap and watch the screen intently.
That first day she saw a Lou Jitsu movie was a day she'd never forget.
Not just because it was one of her brothers favorite films (yes all of them) but because it was the first day she'd been exposed to humans like her.
Leo, Donnie, Splinter, and Mikey were all up by the time they turned it on.
She sat in Raph's lap, eyes wide the moment the actor came on screen.
Her older brother noticed immediately and chuckled. "He's a human! Like you!"
She frowned, mismatched eyes never leaving Lou Jitsu.
Raph grabbed her hand gently and held it up to the screen. "See? He has five fingers and so do you!"
She counted slowly, double checking his math.
He was right.
She looked to where Splinter sat in his chair and counted his fingers as well. Surely she couldn't be that different than everyone...
He had five as well.
maybe she wasn't the only different one.
"Dad!" She pointed out and looked up at her big brother.
"Yeah, but dad's still a rat." He pointed out. "You're a human."
Splinter didn't know if he should be offended by the phrasing but he chose to ignore it and continue to listen in.
The young children didn't realize he was listening though. They just kept talking.
"He's a human like you!" Leo grinned, skooching closer. "Except he can kick butt!"
"Yeah! Lot's of butt!" Mikey added.
Leo gasped as he gained a sudden and probably terrible idea. "I've got an idea! We turn Sirani," he showcased her with his waving hands, "into another Lou Jitsu! We teach her to fight, and kick butt, and be cool!" He punched the air excitedly.
Mikey cheered excitedly. "YES!"
Donnie turned his attention away from the tv skeptically. "In order to make her a lou jitsu, we'd need to actually be able to fight."
As if on cue, the four boys turned to their dad.
Sirani followed their actions.
If they were doing it then she should be doing it to.
He blinked in surprise, his mind still on their previous conversation about Sirani being like Lou Jitsu. "What?"
"Dad we wanna fight!" Leo stood up quickly.
"Yeah!" Mikey copied him immediately.
Sirani leaned out of Raph's arms to copy Mikey but Raph caught her before she could fall.
"I too would like to learn." Donnie added as he also stood.
"We could be super heroes!" Leo shouted, his mind exploding itself. "Or ninjas!"
"Super heros are cooler than ninjas." His purple masked brother commented.
"No, ninjas!"
"Heros!"
"NINJAS!"
"HEROS!"
Splinter couldn't help but feel proud. They wanted to be ninjas, just like the Hamato Clan. Well, might as well start early, right? His Grandpa taught him at a young age so he should do the same.
"Well, lucky for you," he stood from his chair with a grunt, "I happen to know a little about being a ninja."
This caused the boys to jump around in excitement.
Sirani ignored them though.
She watched the screen still, her brain trying to wrap itself around the idea that she wasn't like her siblings. Instead of being like them, the ones she was around every day, she was like this strange man she'd never met once in her life.
How could that be?
She frowned and held up her hand to the tv, comparing it to the man seemingly inside it.
His gloved hands also contained ten fingers in total.
Just like hers.
But... she knew nothing about him!
Nothing at all!
He wasn't the one who was there for her when she got scared or sad!
He wasn't anything to her!
Splinter sighed. The boys seriously needed to stop bringing up her differences. If he wasn't careful, it could cause some real problems in the future. He didn't want her growing up seeing herself as some sort of outcast from her own home.
he scooped her up quickly. Sure, he was happy she had taken an interest in Lou Jitsu, but she needed to get away from the tv.
"No!" She protested, reaching for the screen.
"Hush, child, you can watch the boys first day of training!" He offered. A distraction would be good. Yes, this was good.
He could do this right.
He was once a human child.
How hard could it be?

Risetober day 11 & 12: Enemies & Hamato!
Lovely prompt calendar by @3drottmnt
Did I forget to do yesterdays prompt? Yes, does this lean more toward todays? Also yes, did I butcher Karai's backstory? Probably
To bad, yall enjoy!
She held her breath as she heard the voices fade away. Rough against the wooden floors of what used to be her home. Karai held her mother tight, she’d been quiet for a while now. Stuck under the pillars that used to support the roof.
Karai would cry as her father pulled her away. Tears down his own face as he carried her away from the body. Not letting her get one last look.
It was bright and sunny, the day they buried her mother. It was bright and sunny and the butterflies were beautiful. And the flowers had just begun to bloom after a harsh winter. Karai felt like the universe was mocking her.
Karai spent late nights, hearing the last few men- as the most of the clan expect a few families were killed -mumble plans. Hearing frustrated scribbles onto paper that was thrown away seconds later. Arguments that were loud, before hushing themselves to let Karai- the only living child -try and sleep. It was late nights of freshly brewed tea and a tiny voice from Karai, asking what was wrong.
It would be when Karai is thirteen, and finally being allowed to train as the men do. As her family does. Feeling some sense of peace at the movements, excelling from years of just watching.
It would be the smile on both her and her father’s face as she beats him for the first time at fifteen. Becoming one with the ways of her clan. It was her meeting a young boy, with a bright smile on his face that made her cares melt away for the first time. With the name Hamato Kazuya, it would be her uncles embarrassing her as they join this new clan. Hamato, just as small, just as peaceful as they once were.
It was her father calling them a bit naive to not up their defenses.
It would be quite whispers in the night of her uncles, rumors of armor that could protect them. That both gave her relief, but an even greater shadow of fear.
It would be Karai waking up in the middle of the night. As a sense of déjà-vu overwhelms her with the sounds of screams. People running past her window with crying children. Flames upon the sides of buildings.
Karai would look toward a monster of armor. Taking down houses like playthings. And would grab her weapon. It would be Kazuya yelling at her in distress, being unable to help as he took his siblings to safety.
It would be the adrenaline rush Karai felt, knowing she would do anything if it meant protecting her new home. Her new people.
It would be the running away from the first battle. Damaged, bruised, bleeding as Kazuya held her. Taking her where the rest of her people hid.
It would be Kazuya’s father- the leader of the clan -and Karai’s missing, presumed dead. It would be the grief that would have to be put on hold. As the armored monster continued to wreak havoc upon not just her village. But others as well.
Karai would chase after the monster. Becoming known as the “Hamato Hero” amongst the people she could save. Sending them to Kazuya and her clan. She wouldn’t realize how much it had grown until she went back one last time.
The Hamato clan was her clan. It was a clan of people who knew what it was like to be broken. It was full of people who decided against being bitter, and chose to be kind. Because that’s what Karai would do.
At least that’s what Kazuya would always tell them. Because they never saw her again.
It would soon be legend, nothing more than a fairy tale told by generations passed down. The memories of the Shredder and Karai are forgotten with each child. Nothing more than a childhood tale to make kids eat their vegetables.

A Serving of Tea With a Side of Feelings
Hiroki always loved the pretend tea ceremonies she and Yosh- Splinter used to do back in their childhood. It was one of the very few good memories they had. And introducing her nephew to this practice was even more exciting.
Mikey was rocking slightly as he sat on the floor, clearly excited. Splinter, meanwhile was gathering the supplies and items needed for the ceremony.
"Back in historical times, Michelangelo, tea ceremonies were a ceremonial way of preparing and drinking green tea typically in a traditional tearoom with tatami floor." Hiroki chirped happily, "Beyond just serving and receiving tea, one of the main purposes of the tea ceremony is for the guests to enjoy the hospitality of the host in an atmosphere distinct from the fast pace of everyday life. The ceremony itself was called (茶道, sadō or chadō, "the way of tea" or 茶の湯, chanoyu),' she stated writing out the symbol so her reptilian nephew would have a better grasp of what she meant. "Nowadays, the tea ceremony is practiced as a hobby, and there are places where tourists can experience it, as well."
"That all sounds so nice," Mikey smiled, nodding a bit at her explanation. If tea ceremonies were just as much about relaxing and being social as they were about making and drinking tea, it was no wonder so many people enjoyed them. Watching his aunt carefully as she wrote out the symbol, he tried to study her brush strokes so he could try and write it out himself later. "I'm really gonna have to learn more Japanese," he told her, "the way you guys write is just so pretty-" he stopped, wincing a bit at how childish he probably sounded, hoping it didn't sound like he was mocking his aunt's native language.
"Aw, Thank you! It takes practice but it's very much worth it in the end! You're an artist, so I know you'll catch on to it fast!" Hiroki smiled. It was so nice to see the younger generation get in touch with their roots. Mikey smiled again, beaming at the compliment. He then heard his father chuckle as he set a plate down in front of them. "Another good thing about tea ceremonies? The tasty cakes you get to eat with them!" Splinter grinned, "Unfortunately, we don't have traditional tea cakes, but I figured cut up snack cakes would work just as well."
"It's still lovely. Reminds me of the many ceremonies we had as children." Hiroki sighed. Yosh-Splinter was the only one who was willing to participate in them with her. Saki thought her ceremonies were "Stupid, pointless nonsense' and she should be more focused on training. Nori was too much of a tomboy for it. Kenji just found them kind of boring, but he was nice about it at least. Mei would rather talk about summoning dead things. *shudder*
Splinter's smile softened. "I remember those as well... They were always pretty fun, I'm not sure why no one else enjoyed them. Who could say no to a good cup of tea and some cake? Though, spending time with my little sister was always nice too."
"Well, it's their loss. They probably would've spoiled the fun anyway. You were always the fun one, Yosh-Splinter. Hikari...he tried. But, it just wasn't his cup of tea....pun sort of intended." Mikey chuckled at his aunt's joke. "Well, I'm sure it'll be my cup of tea!" he told them, lifting up his empty cup, "What do we do first?"
"Well, a full, formal tea ceremony is a multi-hour event that starts with a kaiseki course meal, is followed by a bowl of thick tea and ends with a bowl of thin tea." Mikey blinked. "...Cool. So, we should start with preparing the meal then?" Hiroki smiled sheepishly, "Well, Kaiseki meals have a prescribed order to their dishes, most of which are prepared by using one of the common techniques of Japanese cooking. However, kaiseki chefs have considerable freedom to add, omit or substitute courses in order to highlight regional and seasonal delicacies and personal style. I don't think we have the ingredients for it here. Unless I could get it now if you wish."
"Mm, nah." Mikey wouldn't want her running errands when they were supposed to be having tea. "Maybe we could use substitutions? Like, have a NYC version of a kaiseki meal so you don't have to go all over the city for ingredients?" "OOH, that would quite unique! Let's see what we can whip up in the kitchen! I'll tell you ALL the traditional dishes we would have while your father finishes setting up!” Mikey grinned. "Sounds good to me!" Splinter chuckled again, patting his boy's shell as he got up and followed his aunt towards the kitchen.
"You three seem to be having a good time..."
"Hm?" Splinter's ear twitched a bit as he turned towards the voice. Hikari slowly stepped out of the shadows of one of the sewer tunnels. “Mikey is really getting into Hiroki’s tea parties.” Splinter's face lit up. "Oh, Hikari, it is you! Would you like to join us? I'm sure Mikey would not mind the extra company, nor would we." Hikari shook his head. “No thank you. You know I could never really get into the flow of these ceremonies. Besides this was more of a you and Hiroki thing. I always preferred just exploring the forest or pranking Saki with you instead.” Hikari said softly.
"Oh... Well, uh, there's a forest just outside the city. We could go there after the ceremony if you'd like," Splinter told him, "We actually have a friend who lives there. He is a bit strange but he makes really great lemonade."
"Oh uh...is he a mutant by any chance?", Hikari asked nervously. They've been to New York a few times now but Hikari still hasn't gotten over the fact that mutants and yokai were real.
"...Yessss," Splinter replied slowly, "But he's a capybara so, super chill. And uh, he has a bunch of normal, non-mutant puppies too, so..."
Hikari shrunk back a little at that, "Perhaps another time then. I probably would be a nuisance to you....like I always was." The last part he muttered to himself. Splinter blinked, his rat hearing still picking up on that last bit. "What do you mean?" Hikari glanced at his older brother, "I was a pest, a total pain that drove you away. That's...that's why you left us...left me."
"What?" Splinter's ears folded down, his eyes sad now. "No- No, Hikari, that is- I never considered you a pest, and you had nothing to do with me leaving."
Hikari's eyes widened, "I wasn't? but...Saki said...you hated us...and that I was one of the main reasons you ran away. I was always clinging to you and following you, like a second shadow. And that life in America was better than hanging around me for a second longer." Remembering those horrible words their eldest spewed at him when Hikari had asked for the umpteenth time where Yoshi was and when was he coming back.
Splinter scowled. Damn it Saki... it was bad enough his oldest brother was a bully and a pain, only caring about honor and tradition, but did he have to drag Splinter's name through the mud too?
"Hikari... It broke my heart to leave all of you behind. ...Well, all except Saki. But I had to leave - not because I was tired of you or annoyed by you but... because I couldn't be the Hamato Clan Warrior that Father wanted me to be." He scowled to himself. "I couldn't take the training, or the discipline... I could not take the pressure, or the pain of continuing to hide my true self."
Hikari's lip trembled as tears slowly formed in his eyes. "I had no idea, I didn't. I didn't know you were suffering so much. But why didn't you take me with you? You know I would follow you anywhere. We could've started over here together." Hikari lowered his head, "Instead we didn't hear from you in years until recently. Nori tried telling me you were off doing something important, but I had my doubts."
"Otōto..." Splinter stood up, walking towards his younger brother to hug him. As much as he had tried to ignore it, he had always known how much his leaving had hurt his siblings, but he hadn't known by how much until now. "I'm so sorry, Hikari... I would have taken you if I could have."
Wiping his tears away, Hikari hesitantly placed his arms around his Aniki. "Then why didn't you? Did someone stop you, was it too dangerous?"
"Heh..." He smiled sadly. "...Did Kenji ever tell you about the night I left?"
The second-youngest Hamato shook his head, "No, every time I asked him about your whereabouts. He just changed the subject."
"...The night I left... it was Kenji who helped me escape," Splinter told him, motioning for Hikari to sit down, "I had been locked in my room for a while at that point, barely been given anything to eat or drink. Father was trying to get me to break and submit to the Hamato way, to 'stop my foolishness' as it were... It was the middle of the night when Kenji woke me up, practically dragging me out of my room and off to the train station." Splinter blinked away a couple tears as he smiled softly at that memory. "If not for him... I do not know how long I would have been able to hold on. It was Kenji that told me to leave, while I still could. I did not want to abandon you all... but I also understood that it was my only shot - that it would not be as easy to escape a second time, and that Father would only be harsher as the years went on. So, I followed Kenji's advice. and I left."
Hikari didn't know how to react to that. He knew their father was an intense man, he himself had some rather scarring memories he would rather not bring up. But was Spli-Yoshi really put through such hell? And Ken Nii-San actually disobeyed their father to set him free?? His second older brother was always the keep the peace guy.
"Aniki...I'm sorry...I know how harsh Father could be...but I didn't know he would go THAT far. Nor did I think KENJI would do something so daring. He really saved you."
Splinter nodded. “He did... and as much as I missed you, my little brother, I could not afford having Father finding out where I was and sending Saki or one of the clan members after me. ...and, for what it is worth, while I would have loved to have you with me, it was probably better that you weren’t. I was in a new country, a new language, people who didn’t look or speak like me. Also, you don’t just become a big movie star overnight, after all. I had a couple of rough years trying to find roles and only getting bit parts.” It was a wonder he didn’t starve during that time, honestly.
"We probably would've been separated...or worse.” Hikari said. Everything finally made sense but that didn't mean the pain was gone.
Knowing this, Splinter hugged him again. “I am still sorry that I wasn’t able to see you grow up... or that I wasn’t able to properly say goodbye.”
Hikari hugged him back tight. "Aniki...I wish I was able to help you, I didn't realize you were in so much pain. I'm just happy that we're together again now."
"I am too, my brother, and please believe me that I want to spend as much time with you and our siblings as possible while you are all here with me. Both I and my sons do."
Wiping the remaining tears and snot (ew) from his face, Hikari started to smile.
"Is that offer to visit your capybara friend still open?"
"Of course," Splinter smiled, "We can do whatever you want."
"GET READY FOR THE FINEST CUISINE NEW YORK HAS TO OFF-" Hiroki sang as she and Mikey left the kitchen. Immediately noticing her twin and their older brother practically bear-hugging each other. And the slightly red eyes Hikari had. Hiroki immediately passed the platter of food to her nephew and rushed to her brothers' side.
"Hikari!? What's wrong? Why are you crying?? What happened, Nii-san?" Splinter took his sister's hand, patting it to try and calm her. "Hey, hey. It is alright, Hiroki. Everything's fine! We were just, ah, having a bit of an emotional moment." ‘More like a conversation that was long overdue.’
"Yes Hiro Nee-chan, nothing to worry about now.” Hikari sniffed, a relaxed smile appearing on his face. "Nothing at all." For the first in a long time, he finally felt at peace. 'I was actually wondering if I could join your little tea ceremony. I hear you're quite the chef, Michelangelo."
Splinter's smile grew at that, his own eyes getting a bit teary. "Wait, really? Well of course you can join us!" Setting his own plates down, Mikey joined in on the group hug. "And heh, yeah, I am sorta the family cook. Auntie Hikori was just teaching me how to make a traditional tea ceremony meal, and I was showing her how to add a bit of razz-ma-tazz to it."
"Razz...Tazz? That sounds...unique. Let me try this tazz." Hikari said letting go of his family and reaching for a piece on the platter.
Hiroki beamed and squealed, "I never thought you'd want to take part in my tea ceremonies, Hikari! What a pleasant surprise! But I still want to know what the tears were for from the two of you." She said giving Splinter a look.
Mikey giggled. "Help yourself!" he told his uncle, hoping he'd enjoy it. "I will tell you later," Splinter assured Hiroki. If Saki had told his little brother such things, who knows what he told his sister. Hiroki finally looked reassured and started to set everything out. "Now! Traditionally, we start off with bite-sized appetizers and a small glass of alcohol." She pulled out some apple juice instead.
“Since Michelangelo is underage, we'll stick to juice."
"Will you please present the appetizers, dear nephew?"
Mikey saluted before getting the plate, bowing slightly as he presented it to his father and uncle. Splinter sniffed it. "Mmm, smells yummy!"
"This is absolutely wonderful, Michelangelo. You really are gifted!" Hikari smiled. He wished for more moments like this. Just relaxing, chatting, and bonding with his family. They may not have had a great beginning, but he hopes that in later times they'll create happier memories to look back on. As the group of four dined and talked, Hikari sat closer to his beloved older brother.
Mikey beamed. If not for the plate he would have hugged his uncle again. "Thanks Uncle Hikari, and there's more where that came from! There's still a whole lot more where that came from!" They had a whole meal to enjoy, after all. Taking a sip of his apple juice, Mikey hummed and leaned a bit towards his pop. "You knowww, I am a mutant turtle, which means I don't HAVE to follow the law since I can't really get arrested, given that human cops don't even know I exist. So, if I WERE to have a bit of alcohol-"
"Mikeyyyy," Splinter said, giving his son a bit of a look, making his answer to the unasked question quite clear. The box turtle sighed. "Worth a shot."
"Why are you so interested in drinking anyway?"
"Rupert Swaggart uses alcohol in his cooking all the time! Plus I'm curious about the taste. I mean, it has to be pretty good if people drink it all the time.”
The twins stared at Mikey in confusion. “Rupert Swaggart? Isn't he that gross fat pig thing you boys were fighting the other day?" Hikari asked. "I bet he tastes delicious." Hiroki chimed.

prompt 79 or 90 for tmnt wishes au bros?
writing prompts62: “i don’t want to think about what i’d be like without you.”
x
The girl ahead of him is vaguely familiar, and her eyes are round as Raph catches the pile of books that threaten to tip out of her arms.
He hands back a few of them and keeps the rest. When the girl just stands there, hand half-outstretched for the books she’s slowly registering he’s not going to return, Raph says, “You were five seconds away from breaking your neck. Where are you heading with these?”
“Um,” she says. And then, as she realizes he’s not just holding the books hostage for no reason, “Oh! The library! Um, the librarian sent me to pick these up but I forgot the cart.”
And instead of doubling back for the cart, she attempted to carry a stack of books half her own height. Raph barely manages not to roll his eyes. She reminds him of his siblings.
“Do we have a class together?” he asks as they make their way down the hall, and she looks surprised.
“No, but we had the same homeroom all through junior high!” Laughing, she adds, “I didn’t think you remembered me!”
A year ago that remark wouldn’t have ruffled him, but now he feels bad that he doesn’t even know her name. Especially when they get to the library and she braces the door open on her hip so he can duck through without trying to free up his arms, and she says brightly, “You saved me! Thank you, Raphael.”
They attract more than a few stares when Raph helps her stack the books on the librarian’s desk, and Raph isn’t sure why until the girl he’s with is compromised on her way back with the barcode scanner.
“How did you get Raph Hamato of all people to help you carry your books?”
“He just offered?”
“Yeah, right.”
Time to go, Raph thinks, shrugging his hands into his pockets. He’s never been a popular guy, especially not with the rumors that circulated while he was still running in Slash’s crowd. It never bothered him before, and he kind of hates that it’s getting under his skin a little bit now.
And then, before he can so much as take a step towards the door, a familiar voice bellows, “Raphie!” and he’s physically assaulted by his baby brother’s full weight plowing into his back at full speed.
It says a lot about his life that it barely takes him by surprise.
“What are you doing here, dummy?” he asks, disentangling himself from Mikey’s octopus arms. “I thought you had gym this period.”
“Yeaaah, but I twisted my ankle doing handsprings in the bleachers,” comes the chipper response. “Coach got mad and now I have to do study hall for the rest of the week. Lame!”
“Mikey…”
“It’s not even that bad! Don’t tell Leo!”
“If you think for a second that Momanardo won’t be able to tell you’re hurt the second he sees you, we’re talking about two totally different people. Have you even been to the nurse’s office yet?”
Mikey pouts. That’s answer enough. He probably guesses – correctly – that Raph is about to bully and bribe him down the hall to see the nurse, because he smiles brightly and says “Piggyback!”
“Mikey.”
“Sprained ankle!”
“Damn it. Fine.”
Mikey hops right up gleefully, and the librarian only gives them a tolerantly amused glance as she walks by, because Mikey could probably get away with first-degree murder in her presence, where no one else could get away with talking above a whisper.
Over his shoulder, Mikey says, “Bye Renet!” and the girl whose books Raph carried waves back.
“See you, Mike! Thanks again, Raphael!”
“You know her?” Raph asks.
“We have math and bio together! She’s super cool.”
Glad I helped her out, then, Raph thinks but doesn’t say, and nods his thanks when a befuddled sophomore holds the library door for him. Mikey is quiet for a moment – or as quiet as he gets, humming something under his breath – and then says, “Hey, Raph? Why do people look at you like you’re scary or something?”
“I told you, kid. I used to hang with a bad crowd. I wasn’t a very nice guy back then.”
“Psh,” Mikey scoffs, “I didn’t think you were scary, back when we first met.”
“That’s because you’re a dummy, dummy.”
Mikey tries to lean around to look at him, but really only manages to flop sideways like a fish and cause Raph to curse and scramble to keep his grip on him. “There’s no way people could think that. You’re a good guy with or without me around, bro.”
And Raph – Raph knows he’s wrong. But there’s no way for him to explain the magnitude of it, how big the changes are that Mikey made, how much different life is with him in the family. How much easier it is for Raph and Don and Leo to be kind, with someone like Mikey beside them now.
“I don’t wanna think about what I’d be like without you,” he settles for saying, and Mikey doesn’t say anything after that, but Raph can practically hear him smile.

Damn, it B-Team TMNT headcanons, just drown me why don’t you. Empath Mikey sneaks up on Donnie watching the Percy Jackson movie and then surprises him by saying he has the entire series and he sensed Don would like them weeks ago so he made April get the books. Mikey still hasn’t convinced Raph to read them, he’s been hoping to sway Donnie first. Donnie wonders about Leo, Mikey says that Leo is too stressed about his whole “new sensei” job so Mikey has just been using telempathy to make him sleep during meditations so he comes out thinking he meditated but really he napped, and Donnie points out how manipulative that is, that Leo wouldn’t like being psychically tricked; Mikey argues that it’s good for everyone’s health if Leo relaxes, now is Don gonna read the Percy Jackson books or what because Mikey isn’t here to be lectured on using his own abilities on his brothers since Donnie does it all the time. And and Donnie wonders what the hell that’s supposed to mean, and Mikey just screams out that he’s fucking tired he is just trying to help but no one listens, no one pays him attention, he’s always underestimated, he’s glad these abilities cracked open now so he finally had something of value to contribute and he’s too fucking tired to deal with Donnie’s superiority complex and lording his science smarts over him and Donnie yells back that if Mikey would just quit goofing off and spilling his experiments and being clumsy maybe they could actually get shit done... and suddenly they’re really really yelling and screaming at each other, and Raph runs in and is actually shocked and amazed because the b-team never fights each other and he’s so weirded out that this started out over a fantasy book series, so he runs to Mikey’s room and grabs all the books and starts throwing them at his brothers, and like the first two books are hardcover so then they’re upset, and Mikey yells at Raph to quit being such an Ares, and Raph defends Ares so well that Mikey realizes Raph already read the books. But he’s still upset, so he subconsciously begins projecting emotional energies like weapons, which Raphael actually recognizes and starts fighting against, and Donnie is just staring in total confusion, and then he picks up the first book and then he’s too busy reading it to notice anything else happening, so when Mikey accidentally hits him with a wave of frustration emotion, all he does is mutter “Cut that out, Mikey, I’m cheering for gay satyrs” ...and he doesn’t even know that Leo has arrived and thanked Mikey for forcing him to sleep. But finally Donnie looks up and sees Leo, and starts up again the original argument about Mikey being responsible with his ability to manipulate people, and Leo defends Mikey by saying he needs to practice control, and Leo can handle it. And Donnie loses his shit, and finally Mikey sits him down and very gently asks his consent and permission to go into his mind and soothe him and get to the actual core of the problem, so they do this spiritual journey into Donnie’s psyche, and it’s so tangled and intense and defended and dense. Mikey helps untangle the painful parts, puts a calming agent force field around the unnecessary panic reaction part, lets out the better coping mechanisms so they can stretch, and basically turns Donatello’s stress brain into something manageable. Donnie is so happy he he almost faints. When they come out of the meditation it’s been four hours and Raph fell asleep on the couch. And Mikey decides to become the family counselor and medical assistant, and student of psychology, sociology, anthropology, and biology, so Donatello can get back to just focusing on engineering and hard sciences so he can be a little less fucking stressed all the time because their dad died without giving any love to them except Leo and even then it was mostly military commands, no wonder Mikey was spending so much time counseling Leo, who was almost killed, was comatose for three months, damaged his voice, had a broken knee, and was then expected to just lead his little brothers into suicide missions because he was supposed to, and apparently Mikey was spending time in Leo’s mind slowly unraveling the guilt complex, the martyr complex, the wonder boy complex, the golden child complex, the “shit my dying dad told me to literally parent my siblings what do i do” complex, no wonder Mikey was exhaustedly adamant about getting in their heads. And then Donnie realizes that Mikey himself was probably affected by Splinter’s death in a completely separate and complex way but Mikey completely clams up and refuses to discuss it, which really worries Don since Mikey was so skilled at helping him and Leo untangle their PTSD symptoms but Mikey refuses to help himself, so Donnie decides to go to Raphael later about all this stress trauma shit, and he realizes that he has been the only one to successfully vent his grief when he went after Don Vizioso, so Don reminds himself to call a Mandatory Family Meeting later. After he finishes the first two Percy Jackson books. PS, Ghost Splinter still needs a good yelling at by someone other than Leo. I was never a fan of Leo, but this poor kid basically was manipulated and abused and is in turn manipulating and abusing. I fucking adore Ratdad beyond reason, but let’s face it, he was so out of character it was heart-shattering. Canon will never talk about the Hamato kids’ C-PTSD so I will, damn it.
