On one hand, I think that Kiyi is actually a wonderful idea for a character; you can get a lot of interesting stories out of inserting this innocent, guiless little girl into such a fraught & complex pre-existing family dynamic.

However, some mind-numbingly bad storytelling decisions surround Kiyi's existence in canon. Ursa's magical amnesia chief among them; it is so goddamm boring to take a character with as much baggage to chew on as Ursa has, only to make it so she has to grapple with literally none of it.

No Ursa looking at baby Kiyi & mourning for the two babies she was forced to leave behind, grieving children who are still alive. No Ursa looking at Kiyi grow up & seeing Zuko & Azula in her, equally as happy as she is afraid for her. No Ursa trying to give Kiyi as normal & happy a childhood as she can, while constantly looking over her own shoulder, praying that she won't be recognized. No Ursa hearing wild rumors about her older children's whereabouts & actions, not knowing what to believe.

No, instead of any of that, we just get Ursa becoming a blank slate who can now go off & live a blissfully ignorant happily ever after with her (equally blank) high school sweetheart, forgetting the very children whom she risked everything for in the first place. And that sucks.

Also, if I were writing Kiyi, I'd just say fuck it & make her Ozai's kid. That's a thousand times more interesting.

#rug hooking #muffled laugh #wip #artists on tumblr #squints #honestly the difficult part is over( aka the cat) so that's good #I say speedrunning but it's in two weeksish #but it's kinda big? hgnng I want it to be an actual rug but since it's not pure wool idk how durable it would be #in the long run #which again I still wanna make a big rug for my room #so I can stomp around on it/test it out haha #being able to use the malabrigo chunky green yarn is very satisfying #also bless you chunky yarn which is making the progress go a lot faster haha #I drew a failed pattern on the other side of the backing and the fingertips on my left hand #look super bruised but it's just the marker rubbing off mhjfg #still like this style the most I think (the blended color type? like with the sea otter haha or the horse one #or like there's a big mix of textures/yarn size #coelacanth is fun but I think I got a little too nitpicky with it #lmao all my breaks between work have either been coral island or rug hooking #sort of related but there was a yarn shop I went to maybe 2 years ago?#and there was a yarn I bought there that I'm finally using up more and it's literally the softest/fluffiest yarn ever :'D #need to dig through my labels to see which brand it was #sorry to all the people who decided to open tags and got slammed with a wall of text/ramblings LMAO #edit: rip the yarn brand's actually been discontinued since 2018 hAHA

drew some of my fav ody designs! wasnt originally meant to be also replicating the styles but thats sort of just how my brain works. except i didnt copy the lineart styles of anyone here so its DEFINITELY a bit uncanny for a couple of these (LOOKING AT YOU QINNY IM SO SORRY) but whatever

WAUGH its scary i need to do anatomy studies in general maybe #uhh havent commented on the gigi one. he was really easy to draw though lol. weirdly enough gigis style was close enough to my current one-#-that i didnt have any trouble whatsoever? and i think its the most accurate too but only because of the lineart styles being similar lol #ALSO NOT TO PLAY FAVORITES BUT FOOP ODYSSEUS IS MY FAVORITE #I LOVE HIMMM I LOVE HIS SILLY SHAPES HE LOOKS LIKE A WEIRD CAT KINDA. Edit since a lot of people seem confused - your "real" name is the name that you want to be referred to in real life. It doesn't have to be your legal name. So if you're trans and you have a different name to whats on your birth certificate, even if not many people call you by the name, it still counts as your real name.
