Funny you reblog Naruto I was working on my shikanaru fic, I wanna get back into it I crave Shikanaru soft content and Shikamaru saving Naruto from thoughts of Sasuke as in hes missing him after he left is my favorite thing about them. Realistically Shikamaru knows he cant just take it off Narutos mind but he can damn sure get him far enough away from it to enjoy life with being tormented by the mer thought of Sasuke. omg this was a lot, im reading this after a really long day and this just put a big smile on my face!! i fear i can't address everything here but i love the idea of shikamaru getting closer to naruto bit by bit while he tries his best to take sasuke out of naruto's mind, its hard work but he doesn't mind (surprisingly). he knows it won't happen in a day or two but every time naruto smiles at something he says he thinks its worth it!! i also like to think of naruto slowly falling in love without even knowing, because he had all these loud and confusing feelings about sakura and then sasuke, and what he feels for shikamaru is so different, its so calm, like the waters in a lake compared to the storm that he feels when he thinks about sasuke. and even though he's always been hyperactive he finds himself craving the calmness and softness he only seems to get when he's with shikamaru....

also about shikamaru and sasuke, i see their dynamic as so complicated, but in simple terms i just don't think shika likes him, he tolerates him because he's someone naruto loves (even as a friend) (and im basing this kn how i see them in boruto). but he just can't understand him, and i think they would have a lot to talk about and shika is a fair guy, he would give him a chance, but I think they would never be friends fr, he likes suigetsu tho, he's fun and there's a lot of trans and queer talk to have!!

awake now, here's my own list of similaries and differences between the two

things they have in common:

their relationship with strength (well partially atleast)

zoro and sasuke both want to become stronger to achieve a goal, zoro to fulfil a promise to someone who has died and sasuke to bring justice to his slaughtered clan. but beyond that they work so hard to protect those important to them. zoro moreso as he is the swordsman/"main fighter" if the crew and sasuke less because he is understandibly more focused on self protection (as he is being actively pursued by Itachi). and the pursuit of the mangekyo sharingan led him to avoid creating close bonds

but both of them see the presence of strength as the ability to protect and make sure the people they care about cannot be hurt.

the are both swordsmen

they are both characters who are given alot of shipping importance in fandom despite being arguably the least interested in such things in canon

they both hate sweet foods but love onigiri

they are both anarchists (sasuke moreso with commie/marxist leanings, think sabo. zoro just hates the government, cops and all the usual that comes with piracy)

connected to felines (sasuke cats, zoro tigers)

they're both more antisocial. BUT for different reasons. sasuke is a mix of extream trauma and not really feeling like he CAN make new bonds (because again trauma but also plot reasons) where's zoro is just introverted and the more traditionally '''cool shonen guy''' esque character.

zoro is not the secondary protagonist/deuteragonist, Naruto's entire story revolves around the main dicotomy between Naruto and Sasuke and their opposing outlooks on life and motives. one piece's narrative structure dosnt work like that, every crewmemeber is equally important even if they don't get equal focus. a more accurate Naruto and Sasuke parallel would be Luffy and Koby tbh. zoro is like... suigetsu, or something

people who compare zoro to sasuke dont understand zoro, but also most people who use sasuke as a unit of measurement or point of reference to compare against don't understand sasuke either, I am in a tar pit.

what are Hozukis? we just don't know. but I'd sure like to know. especially when it comes to the history of the clan and the abilities of each individual. Gengetsu seemed like such an exceptional individual, so I have to wonder if that was JUST a him thing or maybe his direct family or what's going on. it's easy to point at Suigetsu and assume he's the family standard, but the more I think on it the less inclined to believe that I am. he's also just a freak among the ranks, mainly in attitude and behavior. and yeah canon sure didn't do shit with Mangetsu but I still have my claws in him. I'm curious, I NEED answers. still find it wild that he and Suigetsu weren't just twins honestly. but I'm the same vein, what sorts of ability differences exist between them? both before and during Boruto. because by now Suigetsu has outlived the lifespan of his brother so of course he has had more time to hone his skills than Mangetsu ever had. but back when the two would have been nearly the same age since Suigetsu would have caught up to his brother who died years back, what was the difference in skills? aside from the obvious Prodigy Of The Seven thing that deserves its own 5 episode arc. and for that matter, I am inclined to think that even though Mangetsu could decently use each of the Blades, it was Suigetsu who was better with Kubikiribocho. though how he would fair with the other six, I do not know. I'd like to know very much. especially Hiramekarei since it's half confirmed that that was the primary weapon Mangetsu was using. for that matter, regarding Hiramekarei, I'm still waiting for canon to tell me how it went from the hands of Mangetsu to Chojuuro. there has to be some sort of good story there. and I want it. badly. another issue that drives me on is the matter of the caste system placement of the Hozuki clan, and if it had lowered or stayed the same over time. did Gengetsu screw them all over somehow? is it because he died penis fencing with Muu? I have nothing but respect for the man no matter what because he's both sexy and charming. also he's trans. I don't take discourse on the subject, I'm just right. Hozukis in general really tend to lean into the genderfluid thing, being binary is simply not appealing or accurate for them. and if you point out the irony in it all, they're aware of it. but truly...what IS a Hozuki? at the end of the day? they seem to take clothing as a suggestion at best and I still don't think they have any body hair to speak of. they definitely have a Kekkei Genkai no matter how it's labeled, and they made it through the Bloody Mist genocide of Kekkei Genkai havers somehow. I have my theories. I have my thoughts. and I love these weird wet freaks very much. if only canon gave a shit about them in any tangible way huh?

swordsmen:

ameyuri- transfem genderfluid. collector of pronouns but goes through periods of preferring not using pronouns at all jinpachi- trans man. he likes feminine aesthetics though and wears about as many masculine outfits as he does feminine ones kushimaru- agender. learned what a cryptid was and was like oh i want to be that jinin- trans man. i don’t know how but in my head i’ve kind of assigned him the team dad role and though he doesn’t really give me trans vibes i can’t. make a dad archetype cis for my own mental health mangetsu- transmasc genderfluid. one of the first jokes suigetsu made as a kid was ‘if you’re my sibling but we’re made of water does that mean we’re sip-lings?’ cue them both laughing about it for a concerning amount of time and mangetsu telling every other swordsman about it suigetsu- his gender is an ongoing existential crisis. for the entirety of the time mangetsu was alive he considered himself a boy, and then he was in a tube for four years and had time to consider some things. he’s like, introduced to non-kiri gender rules, decides wow gender is bullshit, but also isn’t comfortable being called things that aren’t he/him. if you ask him he’ll shrug

kisame- trans guy! i had a lot of things to say about him once upon a time but now i’ve forgotten all of it fhfjgkfngg other than that i don’t hc a lot of characters as being dysphoric, because of my hcs for how gender roles are in the nart universe, but him i do. poor shark. zabuza- trans guy also. he fled from kiri after his failed coup and went time to get top surgery now i guess. haku- gender nonconforming trans boy of course! this is the closest to being canon of any naruto character other than the obvious. raiga- raiga is cis. again only as cis as someone from a city that left behind mainland gender roles behind decades before his time can be, but he hasn’t thought about his gender other than hm i guess he him pronouns are fine. im a man? and then proceeded to not care for the rest of his life ranmaru- i can see him being a lot of things?? im going to go with nonbinary but if you have other thoughts i’d be happy to hear em. i can see like, raiga saying something offhandedly like “growing boys need to eat!” and ranmaru, who has only ever been referred to as a child, goes ??? growing what now juzo- gnc demiboy. he hasn’t given as much thought to gender as a lot of the people in this post, he’s like refer to me as whatever but it doesn’t really sit right with him to be referred to with feminine terms
