When they realise they are in love with you.
MHA Class 1A Head cannons
Izuku Midoriya
• He doesn’t realize it at first—it hits him like a train when someone else points it out.
• You’re patching up his wounds after a battle, scolding him like usual, and he just stares at you.
• “They care about me so much… I don’t ever want to lose them.”
• That’s when it clicks—his face turns beet red, and he literally short-circuits trying to process it.
• He starts writing about you in his notebooks, not just as a hero, but as his hero.
• Tries to confess a dozen times but ends up stammering and running away.
Katsuki Bakugo
• He freaking hates it when he realizes he’s in love.
• He notices he gets jealous when you talk to others too casually.
• He starts training even harder because he wants to be stronger for you.
• The moment it fully hits him? You defend him from someone bad-mouthing him, and his chest tightens.
• “Shit… I don’t just like them. I love them.”
• He won’t say it out loud but becomes insanely protective overnight.
• If someone flirts with you, he glares daggers and pulls you closer.
• His confession is awkward but genuine—probably blurts out “I love you, okay?! Now deal with it!”
Shoto Todoroki
• Love isn’t something he understands right away—it’s foreign but comforting.
• He notices he trusts you more than anyone else and actually wants to be around you.
• One day, you brush a strand of hair from his face, and his heart skips a beat.
• “Why does my chest feel warm? Is this…?”
• He spends weeks thinking about what this feeling means.
• His father’s influence made him fear attachment, but with you, he feels safe.
• He realizes he loves you when he catches himself smiling for no reason just because you exist.
• When he confesses, it’s simple but deeply meaningful—“I think I love you. No, I know I do.”
Eijiro Kirishima
• He’s the type to fall fast and hard, but he won’t admit it until it hits him like an explosion.
• You do something small but meaningful, like fixing his hair or remembering his favorite drink, and suddenly, he’s melting.
• His brain just goes: “Oh no. Oh NO. I LOVE THEM.”
• The moment he realizes it, he becomes the most obvious person alive—grinning like an idiot, blushing when you compliment him.
• Denki figures it out first and teases him relentlessly.
• He confesses spontaneously—probably during training or when you’re just hanging out.
• “Hey… I, uh, love you. Like, really love you.”
Denki Kaminari
• He thinks he’s just crushing on you, but one night, you laugh at one of his dumb jokes, and his heart flips.
• “Wait… why do I want to make them laugh forever?”
• He starts noticing the little things—the way your eyes sparkle, the way you say his name.
• Suddenly, every love song reminds him of you.
• He realizes he loves you when you comfort him after a bad day, holding his hand without judgment.
• He panics—freaks out and tells Sero before he even tells you.
• Ends up blurting it out without thinking—probably during a sparring session.
• “Oh, shit—did I just say that out loud? …Well, I meant it.”
Henta Sero
• Realizes it slowly but surely—love creeps up on him like his tape until it’s wrapped around his heart.
• It happens during a casual hangout, maybe when you’re laughing at one of his dumb jokes.
• “Damn, I’d do anything to hear that laugh every day.”
• His friends notice before he does because he starts bringing you up in every conversation.
• “Oh, Y/N likes that movie too!” “Y/N would totally win this game.”
• When he realizes, he’s cool about it but lowkey dying inside.
• He confesses casually but sweetly, probably while sharing a snack.
• “So… I’m kinda in love with you. Thought you should know.”
Fumikage Tokoyami
• He doesn’t see it as love at first—he calls it “a deep admiration”.
• Dark Shadow calls him out first: “Dude, you’re OBSESSED.”
• He realizes he loves you when he misses you more than he should.
• The thought of you being hurt makes his blood run cold—he becomes fiercely protective.
• He confesses in a poetic and dramatic way—probably quotes some gothic literature.
• “My heart, once shrouded in darkness, now finds solace in you.”
• He’s nervous about whether you’ll accept him, but when you do, he’s deeply devoted.
Tenya Iida
• Love is logical to him, so he doesn’t understand why his brain short-circuits around you.
• Realizes it when he starts worrying about you more than necessary.
• “Are they drinking enough water? Did they eat today? Should I check on them?”
• The real moment? You tell him to relax, placing a hand on his arm, and suddenly, his heart is racing.
• He denies it at first—tries to rationalize it.
• But one day, you cheer for him in a match, and it clicks—he wants you by his side forever.
• His confession is formal but flustered—“I have come to the realization that I love you. I hope you will accept my feelings.”
Mashirao Ojiro
• He falls first but doesn’t say anything—he’s the quiet type about his feelings.
• The moment he realizes? Sparring with you, when you pin him down and smirk.
• “Oh, I’m completely in love with them.”
• He acts normal but becomes a little more protective, a little more soft-spoken around you.
• His tail wags when you’re near, and he hates that everyone notices.
• He confesses simply but sincerely—probably under the stars or after training.
• “I love you. I don’t need anything back, I just wanted you to know.”
Mezo Shoji
• Realizes it when he starts looking forward to your voice every day.
• He’s always been reserved, but you make him feel safe.
• The moment he knows? You tell him he’s beautiful, and he nearly chokes on air.
• “They… they actually see me.”
• His confession is quiet but meaningful—probably late at night when you’re alone.
• “You’re the only one who makes me feel like this. I think… no, I know I love you.”
Rikido Sato
• He realizes he’s in love while baking—he catches himself making extra portions just for you, even when you’re not around.
• One day, you sneak into the kitchen to help, and he watches you struggle with frosting a cupcake.
• Instead of laughing, he just smiles fondly and thinks, “I want to do this with them forever.”
• The moment it really clicks is when you try his baking and get so excited, giving him the biggest grin.
• His heart pounds, and suddenly, the sweetest thing in the room isn’t the cake.
• Becomes super flustered around you after that, fumbling with ingredients and spacing out.
• His confession is adorably shy, probably over a homemade dessert.
• “I, uh… I made this for you. And also, I think I love you.”
Koji Koda
• He falls slowly but deeply, and it takes a while for him to understand his feelings.
• He realizes it when he notices the way animals react to you—his rabbits love you, birds always fly near, and even skittish animals trust you.
• One day, you rescue a tiny injured bird, and as he watches you care for it so gently, his heart swells.
• “They’re so kind… I never want to leave their side.”
• The next time you smile at him, his whole face turns red, and he gets so nervous he forgets how to talk.
• Starts getting extra shy around you, but his actions speak louder—always carrying things for you, making sure you’re safe, sitting near you quietly.
• His confession is soft but heartfelt, maybe while watching the sunset with you.
• “I… I think I love you. You make my world so much brighter.”

Alex, this was amazing!! I absolutely loved this! I think I laughed throughout without pausing. Like, I was cackling vividly 😂😂
Dean:
He’s not sick. Because he doesn’t get sick. Dean claims he has the constitution of a horse, but you still take the beer out of his hand before he can take a sip at 10:00 a.m.
That already took me out. First two lines. Bravo. You've done it 🤣
I'm guessing this is post Chuck lmao
“I’m find,” he insists, even as he begrudgingly accepts the gentle pressure of your hand on his back and shoulder, pushing him down to the bed.
You know why I picked it 😝 (👏👏👏) And not the flannel and the runny nose, yikes. Loved this exchange (and callback) lol
He knows that you care about him. That you love him. But this is one of those moments where it hits him, just how much.
Took a brief second from laughing, so I could push tears out of my eyes 😭
But absolutely agree, you'd have to wear Dean down and force him into it lmao
Beau:
His coughing sneeze makes you grimace. You didn’t even know someone could sneeze and cough at the same time.
Back to laughing. My God, that was the sneeze of the century 😂😂
“Nah, can’t be sick. Gotta lot of work to do today,” he says.
Mutually exclusive, obviously 🤷♀️
“How long until I’m allowed out, warden?” he asks.
Seems like the man flu hasn't swallowed the charm either 🥰
He stops you by grabbing your wrist. “Hey, uh…can I have some chicken noodle soup later?” “Of course, baby. I’ll swing by the store now and get some stuff for you.” “And some saltines?”
And that's the moment I realized Beau's like my husband when he's sick 😂 (🙄)
It's like you were in my house and wrote a transcript of the last man flu epidemic of 2024 😆🤌
(PS: Real proud for finding that gif 😂)
A good add-on for Beau would be talking about his symptoms and aches... constantly loll. ("Babe, my throat is still dry and very weird right here. I googled and it says it could be laryngitis, cancer or the Marburg virus." 😂)
Ben:
Oh and then, Ben. Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben... I thought for sure he'd be the worst, like this virus is a personal attack on his virility 🤣 But I was pleasantly surprised when you brought in memories of his mother 🥹😭
“Fuck,” he groans, dragging a hand over his face before he turns onto his back.
That immediate fuck got me so hard 🤣🤣
He’s a sourpatch grumbly patient who only begrudgingly stays put in bed when you ask him to.
Ah, yes, gramps 😂🫶 (And he honestly shares that with a lot of old man in hospitals and nursing homes who have to be repeatedly told to stay in bed lol)
“Hey, sweetheart,” he calls to you from the bedroom, his voice croaking all the while. “I’m getting you a yacht for Valentine’s Day. You want it all white, or throw in a bit of gold? Actually, check out this one with the navy trim.”
*snorts* Of course the brat's online shopping for yachts 😆
“Why can’t you put some fucking steak in it or something?” he grouses. He tries and fails to hide another wet cough. “Why can’t you just eat what I lovingly made, just for you,” you snipped back.
Oh God, all their bickering was amazing! It's honestly always one of the most fun things when writing SB – the sheer frustration of the reader 😭😂🙈
And I loved the addition of Priestly!! 😍💚💙🤘 (I've been thinking of finally writing that one-shot for him lol)
“Aw, that’s still good,” he argues.
Great idea, man. Add a stomach bug to that man flu lmao
“Know what would really make me feel better?” he hedges. He tries to guide you down to him by tugging on your hand, but you resist him.
I could also totally see him turning into a Monica there 😂
“When you’re feeling better, you can ask me that question properly.”
Oh, oh, thank God! The relief I felt 😂 I mean, it's so, so sweet, but also you're very sick, dude, and germy... like, it's a lot 😆
(And I also sincerly hope there will be a proposal follow-up one-shot/drabble... maybe? 👀)
I loved this so much! You were spilling nothing but truths here! 😂💯🩵

Pairings: Dean Winchester x Reader || Beau Arlen x Reader || Soldier Boy/Ben x Reader || Boaz Priestly x Reader
HC: When Dean Winchester, Beau Arlen, Soldier Boy (Ben), and Boaz Priestly get sick, how would they act when you (try to) take care of them?
AN: After reading I Got You by @bettystonewell (Dean x Reader) and The Best Kind of Medicine by @lamentationsofalonelypotato (Soldier Boy x Reader), I realized that I've never actually written a sick-fic before. Here it is in headcanon form, since you guys seem to like these! lol 💜
Also adding Priestly to this lineup for the first time because some of you have been requesting more of him recently. 😉
Tags/Warnings: Established relationship, hurt/comfort, sick-fic, some needy affection-starved men who don't want to admit they're needy, lots of fluff.~
Dean Winchester
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/24c66105d4df84ddfb4aaed1e0974e3b/77936c26a573af4e-92/s500x750/5ed4eaf388a733923f989cc080c1e74f74b95932.webp)
He's not sick. Because he doesn't get sick.
Dean claims he has the constitution of a horse, but you still take the beer out of his hand before he can take a sip at 10:00 a.m.
He's too busy interrupting himself, namely by coughing half a lung, wheezing, blinking teary eyes -- the whole phlegmy nine yards.
Sam shakes his head, casting you a look that frankly says, Good luck.
He knows his brother is stubborn as hell, and one of the things Dean dislikes most is being fussed over for "no reason." Being seen as weak. Not being able to just shrug his shoulders and shake it off.
To be fair, Dean tries. Except this time it's accompanied by a body shiver and a reluctant sniffle. His pallid face is drawn, and his usually strong and solid frame looks unsteady as he leans a hand on the War Room table.
"Okay, come on, Rambo. Let's get you back into bed," you say, guiding your boyfriend back to the room you share with him.
"I'm find," he insists, even as he begrudgingly accepts the gentle pressure of your hand on his back and shoulder, pushing him down to the bed.
"Sure you are, baby," you say with a smirk. "You're in the primb of libe."
Dean shoots you a narrowed look. Damn you for forcing him to binge-watch all those episodes of Friends late at night when you both can't sleep.
Right now he's Monica, trying to convince you he's in tip-top shape, while you're Chandler, just trying to get him to use tissues instead of his flannel sleeve to wipe his runny nose.
After taking his boots off, you get him to change out of his jeans and back into his sweatpants. Then you manage to get him to lay down under the covers with the promise of coming back with medicine and soup.
"I don't want soup, damn it," he grumbles. You just roll your eyes and rub his arm.
"Just rest. I'll be back with the Vicks."
As you might expect, Dean is not an easy patient.
He refuses to drink tea, but he does down the pills you bring for him, with a measured toss of his head that still makes his head swim. He groans.
He swallows a couple of cautious spoonfuls of the soup, pausing when he realizes that its warmth actually feels good down his sore and scratchy throat. It tastes pretty good too, especially with the warm, buttered slices of bread on the side.
"You made this?" he asks.
"Mhmm," you nod, smiling. If nothing else, good food will pacify this man. "Chicken and wild rice, made especially for you."
"Hmm. S' good," he nods in reply. He manages to finish the bowl.
He has to admit, if just to himself, that he does feel like shit.
He won't admit that the way you're rubbing his back, the gentle pressure of your nails between his shoulders and down his spine relaxes him, makes him feel better.
He knows that you care about him. That you love him. But this is one of those moments where it hits him, just how much.
It's a little overwhelming. A heavy swell of pressure fills his chest, so he tries not to let himself think about it for very long.
(He fails.)
After he's done eating, you take the plates away and help him back into bed. You linger there, slipping your fingers through his soft brown hair and pressing a kiss to his clammy forehead.
"I really need you to rest, okay," you say quietly. "If you need anything, just text me or Sam. Don't get out of bed."
Dean grasps your hand before you can move away from him. Since you're probably going to wash your hands anyway, he lays a kiss on the back of your hand.
"Thanks, sweetheart."
Beau Arlen
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a5744e3199d3b50d1fa1d448d4487909/77936c26a573af4e-a9/s540x810/f948858581c6b17cdcf26d973d3f74b8124b1c46.webp)
Sheriff Beau Arlen is the type to run himself into the ground because he's so damn into his work.
He wants to do well in his station of responsibility, and he feels like he has to make up for his performance during the summer madness of Buck Barnes and Avery...and everything in between.
You just have to make Beau realize that he needs to slow down, before he well and truly burns himself out.
You put your foot down one morning.
He tries to get out of bed but has to pause, his head swimming. He takes a couple of steadying breaths while sitting on the edge of the bed.
You notice with a frown. "Hey, you okay?"
"Fine. Just fine," he answers a little too breathlessly. He raises a hand to his head. His throat is sticky and coarse. He wrinkles his nose when he also feels a sneeze coming on.
"Just need a...a...mugh-ah-ha-hugh."
His coughing sneeze makes you grimace. You didn't even know someone could sneeze and cough at the same time.
"Aw, babe. You're sick," you say as you move over to him, resting a hand on his back. He shakes his head and groans.
"Nah, can't be sick. Gotta lot of work to do today," he says. His voice is like gravel blended with broken glass. It would actually be sexy, if for the distinctly un-sexy way he tries to clear the great wad of phlegm from his throat.
He tries to rock himself onto his feet, but there he sways on the landing. You hurry out of bed to grab his arm and steady him.
"Oh no, you don't. Back into bed," you say.
"Aw, sweetheart. I'll be fine--"
"No. Lay down. You're not going in today," you say more firmly, all while you tuck the man back into bed with the blankets covering him.
"All right, all right. No need to be so pushy," he can't help but tease.
It earns a small smirk on your face. It seems like his man flu hasn't yet deprived him of his sense of humor.
"I thought you liked that though," you reply. You sit on the edge of the bed and rub his chest. He groans in defeat.
"Can't believe this," he grumbles. "Today of all days--"
"There's always going to be another case. This is your body telling you that you need to slow down," you tell him. "So how about this. I'm gonna call in one of my sick days, and we'll bunker in together."
You stroke his bearded cheek. He quirks a smile, grabbing your hand and squeezing warmly.
"How long until I'm allowed out, warden?" he asks.
"Until you can stand without keeling over," you dryly reply. A smile tugs at your lips. "Remind me to stop by CVS to grab you a Life Alert."
"All right, har har haugh--" His sarcasm ends on a very real, wheezing cough. Your amused smile drops. You relent from your teasing and stroke his chest once more.
"Okay, just rest. Let me get you some actual medicine and I'll be right back."
He stops you by grabbing your wrist. "Hey, uh...can I have some chicken noodle soup later?"
"Of course, baby. I'll swing by the store now and get some stuff for you."
"And some saltines?"
"Saltine crackers on the side. Got it."
You're about to head to the bathroom to brush your teeth before you start getting ready to go to the store, but once again, Beau's needy hand stops you.
"Before you go, some tea with honey and lemon would be good. Just something for my throat," he croaks.
You smile and nod. "Yeah, for sure. That'll be better for you than coffee."
"Oh, and can you gimme that quilt over there?" he asks, pointing to your favorite knitted blanket at the edge of the bed. You graciously lay it over his form and drop a kiss onto his forehead.
"And some cough drops. Thank you, darlin'," Beau adds.
Your lips begin to press together, but you nod and continue getting dressed.
You can already tell this man is going to settle into you taking care of him just fine.
Soldier Boy (Ben)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e514d99d7b5ebef320d5a7a2af3b8bad/77936c26a573af4e-6c/s540x810/be0fe419f2097f1ed35cb1edb6f035d9da1ffda2.webp)
Neither of you thought it was possible, considering his super genes that allowed him to eat and booze and drug harder than Andre the Giant and Keith Richards put together.
But one day, your over six-foot super soldier goes down hard. The warning signs came the night before, when you could hardly sleep with the way he was snoring like a grizzly bear.
In the morning, he wakes bleary-eyed with a runny nose and a coughing fit hard enough to shake the bed.
"Fuck," he groans, dragging a hand over his face before he turns onto his back. "This's gotta be some kind of bullshit hangover."
You move over to him in bed and feel the intense warmth of his clammy forehead. Your brows draw together in concern.
"No, I think you're sick."
"Not possible," he grumbles. "I haven't been sick since..."
Well, since he was a kid, probably. He won't admit it, but he's surprised he still has that memory lodged in the back of his mind.
It comes to the forefront now: your hand on his cheek unknowingly mimics his mother's gentle touch, her soft, kind voice.
"Aw, my sweet boy. Let's get you feeling better."
He can almost recall the floral scent of her perfume, echoes of it in the shampoo you use.
Ben claims he's fine, that he doesn't need your help or want the medicine and tea you bring for him. (He tries the tea, grimaces, and spits it out when you're not looking.)
He's a sourpatch grumbly patient who only begrudgingly stays put in bed when you ask him to. He doesn't mind lying around and watching movies all day, not to mention episode after episode of Below Deck. It reminds him that he wants to get back into boating.
"Hey, sweetheart," he calls to you from the bedroom, his voice croaking all the while. "I'm getting you a yacht for Valentine's Day. You want it all white, or throw in a bit of gold? Actually, check out this one with the navy trim."
You roll your eyes to yourself when you step back into the room. You're carrying a tray with a large bowl of soup and a fifth of whiskey. He claims the latter will help soothe his throat, and you don't have the heart to argue with him when he's clearly feeling so shitty.
"You mean you're getting you a yacht," you reply wryly. "We live in the city. Where the hell would we put a boat?"
"In a yacht club, where it belongs," Ben retorts. He hooks an arm around your waist and peruses what you've brought him on the tray. He doesn't look all that interested.
"Look, I know you're not exactly a soupy kinda guy, but this'll make you feel better," you say.
"Why can't you put some fucking steak in it or something?" he grouses. He tries and fails to hide another wet cough.
"Why can't you just eat what I lovingly made, just for you," you snipped back.
He rolls his eyes at your attitude, but he pipes down. In that silence, he's conceding that you have a point. There was a time were all he had to do was glance in someone's direction, and there'd be some fucking moron to fulfill his every whim.
Now, you're probably the only one in the world that would actually do what you're doing...
Cooking for him, putting your heart into it, for the simple reason that you do care.
Ben takes the bowl of soup from your hands. Raising a brow, you offer him the spoon as well.
He eats without further complaint.
You smile and reward him with a sweet kiss on his forehead, brushing his hair back as you do so.
"See? That's not so hard, huh?" you can't help but needle him. "It's okay, baby. I'll take care of you."
He eyes you dryly, but he won't admit that there's a different kind of warmth coiling in his chest.
Boaz Priestly
"Uuuughhh, babe," he groans. "I feel like death on toast."
You're standing beside the bed with a smile playing on your lips. You brush back his for once un-gelled hair back from his face. It's weird to see it all limp and lifeless, slightly damp with sweat.
"Unironically, I should make you some toast," you reply. "What kind of medicine do we have?"
Priestly unearths his head from under his pillow to look up at you with miserable red-rimmed eyes and a sniffling, stuffy nose. "Can we count the tequila in the mini bar?"
"Maybe later," you laugh. "How are we on groceries?"
Priestly struggles to think. He takes your hand and rubs it back and forth across his chest. Maybe your sweet, loving touch has the power to clear away his congestion without him needing Vicks. Too minty.
"We have that pastrami I brought back from the shop," he says.
"That's six days old already," you shake your head.
"Aw, that's still good," he argues. "But uh, other than that, I think I have half a cheeseburger left from last night."
Last night's date at TGI Friday's, he means.
You heave a sigh. "Okay, clearly I'm going to the store. You just stay in bed and rest. Drink your tea."
He grimaces like a child. "I don't like tea."
"I know you don't like tea, but you need to drink it. It's good for your throat and your immune system."
He groans and flops back over onto his stomach. You bite your lip against a smile. He's such a whiny baby when he's sick.
Talk about Man Flu.
"Come on, be a good boy for me," you say, smacking him lightly on the ass. "Soon enough you'll feel better."
A smile creeps across his face where it's pressed against his pillow.
"Know what would really make me feel better?" he hedges. He tries to guide you down to him by tugging on your hand, but you resist him.
"Oh, no. You're not gonna get your germs all over me," you say.
"Hey, what happened to in sickness and in health?" he croaks. Even while under the weather, he's still plenty strong enough to grapple with you. He manages to yank you down. Laughing, you stumble into a seat on the edge of the bed.
"Huh, I don't remember exchanging any vows. You see a ring on this finger?" you tease, flashing your bare hand in his face to try and distract him and weasle out of his grip. "I can jump this ship anytime I want."
Priestly pouts. His arm hooks tighter around your waist. "Huh, guess you got me there..."
He turns his head and coughs roughly into his arm. Your amusement fades into concern and sympathy. You lay a hand over his chest while he struggles.
Once again, he clasps his free hand over yours. He glances up a bit hesitantly into your eyes.
"Well, maybe it's time there should be something on this finger," he murmurs.
You blink your eyes wider. Your head tilts, wondering if you just heard him right. Is this delirium fever talking, or is he serious?
"O-Oh yeah?" you ask.
Priestly tries to gauge your reaction. Seeing your face break out into a cute, shy smile raises the corners of his lips. Hope blooms in his chest, right beneath your hand.
"Yeah," he says, trying to clear his cracking throat. "I mean, if you're okay with that. If it's not too soon--"
You slip your fingers over his plush, chapped lips, and your smile brightens.
"When you're feeling better, you can ask me that question properly."
AN: 😆 I hope you liked the first ever addition of Priestly!! It was so fun to try and write him again (it's been a while lol). Feel free to imagine this vignette in the same storyverse as The Miracle Man and Code Red.
But I also hope you enjoyed the "Big 3," as I call them, even though Russell is starting to give Beau a run for his money on one of those slots. 😂 Let me know which guy you had the most fun reading on this one! 💜

── jungkook x you
scenario: you and Jungkook used to be best friend until new female staff came into his workplace, Jieun. He has introduced you to her. Jungkook starts getting busy with his work and often cancel the usual food hunting night with you because he needs to work overtime with Jieun. You know Jieun doesn't like you because she has come to your cafe a few times and told you to stop texting Jungkook during his work hour. when you told him about that, he didn't believe you. Starting that day your friendship is not like it used to be.

(vi)
Your writing is already strong, with vivid descriptions and engaging emotions. Below is a revised version with grammar, punctuation, and flow improvements while maintaining your original tone and style:
Fast-forward to the night of the dance ball, and Jungkook was practically vibrating with irritation.
Here he was, leaning against the wall like some moody bystander, watching you laugh and twirl with Joon on the dance floor. Joon, of all people!
Jungkook scowled as Joon spun you around, your laughter ringing out like music. You looked beautiful in your black dress, hair swept up in that effortless way that made you look like a princess.
He took another sip of his drink, but it didn’t do much to drown out the voice in his head. That’s supposed to be me dancing with Y/N!
The irritation hit Jungkook like a punch to the gut. He didn’t even like dancing, but with you, it had always been fun. You used to drag him to the floor, laughing when he inevitably stepped on your toes, and he’d make some sarcastic remark about your poor teaching skills.
But now, you weren’t even looking in his direction.
“Dude, you okay?” one of his friends asked, nudging him.
“Yeah, fine,” Jungkook muttered, his eyes still glued to you.
He saw Joon lean in, whispering something in your ear, and you laughed again, your hand resting lightly on his shoulder. Jungkook clenched his jaw. He told himself he shouldn’t care—he was supposed to feel happy when you were happy.
But then, why did it feel like he was the one being left behind?
The dance ended with a spin, and you clapped as Joon gave you an exaggerated bow. You laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear as you walked off the dance floor with Joon by your side.
Jungkook straightened slightly when you spotted him.
“Hey!” Your voice was as cheerful as ever.
You stopped in front of him, your cheeks glowing from the dancing. Joon was already wandering off to grab a drink, leaving you standing there with Jungkook.
“You’re not dancing?” you asked.
Jungkook shrugged. “Not my thing. You know that.”
“Well, you’re missing out,” you said, a teasing glint in your eyes. “Joon is surprisingly good. He didn’t step on my toes even once. I think he might be the best dance partner I’ve had in a while.”
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth twitching upward. “Wow, high praise from Y/N. I guess that makes me what—your worst dance partner?”
You laughed. “Oh, come on. You know you’re great too. Just… in your own way.”
Jungkook smiled. He was about to ask you to dance when the live band started another song. But before he could open his mouth, Joon had already tapped your shoulder.
“Let’s dance again! This song is good!” Joon said excitedly.
You quickly nodded. “YES! Let’s go!”
Jungkook exhaled sharply as you and Joon disappeared into the crowd.
“Sucks,” he muttered.
“Why do you sound so grumpy, Kook?” another friend asked.
“Nothing.”
The friend laughed. “Really? Then why did I hear all of our friends were scared to come over and chat with you?”
“I don’t know.” Jungkook’s eyes never left you.
The friend followed his gaze, then smirked. “What, are you jealous seeing Y/N with Joon?”
Jungkook froze. “What? No,” he said quickly, but the words felt hollow, even to him.
The friend gave him a knowing look. “She’s happy when she’s around Joon. Let her be close with others, just like how she lets you be close with Jieun.” Then, with a chuckle, the friend wandered off, muttering something about how he knew it.
Jungkook stood there, staring at you and Joon.
Was he jealous?

♥︎ Ellie’s got a big mouth—always has, always will—but the moment she realizes you have selective mutism, she dials it back. Not in a way that makes you feel weird or different, but in a way that says, Hey, I see you. I get it.
♥︎ She never pressures you to speak. If you want to, cool. If you don’t, also cool. She reads your body language like a damn expert, catching onto little things—the way you shift, the way your eyes dart—before you even realize you’re communicating.
♥︎ That being said, she still talks a lot. Not to fill the silence, but just because she wants to share things with you. Her day, a dumb joke she thought of, how she absolutely destroyed Dina in a game of poker (she’s lying).
♥︎ Ellie’s the type to get really protective when people try to force you to talk. If anyone’s being pushy or making you uncomfortable, she’s immediately stepping in with a sharp, “They don’t owe you shit, dude. Move along.”
♥︎ She picks up on your nonverbal cues fast. If you glance at the door at a party, she’s already grabbing your hand to lead you out. If you shift uncomfortably when someone tries talking to you, she redirects the conversation smoothly.
♥︎ Writes little notes and passes them to you when you’re both chilling. Sometimes they’re stupid doodles of a buff giraffe (her artistic skills are questionable), sometimes they’re just little things like u hungry? wanna get outta here? u look cute btw.
♥︎ Over time, she gets used to the different ways you communicate—gestures, nods, writing things down. If you’re comfortable, she’ll even help you practice speaking in a low-pressure way, like whispering to her when no one else is around.
♥︎ She talks to you in the same casual, unfiltered way she talks to anyone else. She never makes you feel fragile or different, never acts like she’s walking on eggshells.
♥︎ Lowkey brags about understanding you better than anyone else. If someone’s confused about something you meant, Ellie’s already translating like, “They mean no, dude. Can you not tell?”
♥︎ If you ever do decide to talk, even just a word or two, she never makes a big deal out of it. Just gives you this soft little smile, like she’s proud of you but doesn’t wanna put you on the spot. Later, though, when you’re alone, she might squeeze your hand and be like, “That was cool, babe.”
♥︎ Hums and sings under her breath around you. Sometimes she does it just to make the silence feel shared rather than empty. If you have a song you like, she’ll learn it on her guitar and play it for you without expecting you to say anything about it.
♥︎ Lets you take the lead in physical affection. If you reach for her hand, she acts all casual about it, but inside she’s melting. If you tug on her sleeve for attention, she turns to you immediately, giving you her full focus.
♥︎ If someone asks why you don’t talk, Ellie is the first to shut that down. “That’s none of your business,” she’ll say, jaw tight. She doesn’t need an explanation to respect you, and she makes sure no one else does either.
♥︎ Gets really good at interpreting your facial expressions. A raised eyebrow? She’s smirking. A side glance? “Okay, yeah, that dude is weird-looking.” She makes it feel like a secret language between you two.
♥︎ If you ever get frustrated with yourself, she’s the first to reassure you. “Hey, you don’t need to talk to be heard, alright?” She’ll sit with you through whatever you’re feeling, no pressure, just warmth.
♥︎ Teaches you dumb hand signals for things. If you’re across the room and she wants to make you laugh, she does something goofy, like a dramatic thumbs down when Dina’s being annoying.
♥︎ If you text her instead of speaking, she responds in the same way—never makes you feel like it’s weird. Sometimes she even sends voice memos in response, all lazy and affectionate, like, “Babe, you should’ve seen Jesse’s face when I beat his ass in cards today.”
♥︎ Winks at you a lot. Not in a flirty way (okay, sometimes in a flirty way), but mostly in an I got you kinda way. If you’re struggling, if someone’s being annoying, if she just wants to make you smile—wink.
♥︎ At the end of the day, she never sees you as “the quiet one.” She just sees you. The way you light up when you’re happy, the way you make her feel safe without saying a word. And in return, she makes sure you always know: you don’t have to say anything for her to hear you.

can you make one where rafe showed his friends a private pic between and reader and she gets all pissed
do you think i deserved it all?
mean!rafe cameron x desperate!fem!reader
cw — explicit picture, manipulation, gaslighting
summary — you overhear your boyfriend and his friends talking abt a certain photo.
authors note — i’m writing with nails so this may have some typos but please ignore that. this can be read as a standalone but is apart of my mean!rafe series that is listed in order on my rafe masterlist under au's. if you guys have any longer requests, please send em in so i can make these a little more detailed cause my creativity is not flowing for some reason.
do not copy or post my work anywhere else.
you weren't paying attention at all to what was going on around you. rafe, topper, and kelce always talked about stuff you couldn't care less about and that is exactly what they were doing now. the four of you were sat in the living room of the thornton mansion on the couches. your boyfriend was sitting beside you with your feet in his lap as you laid across the soft cushions and his friends were sat across from you two on the other one.
you were currently just mindlessly scrolling through instagram as you plotted your next post. you could faintly hear the boys talking about a variety of things along with the tv playing in the background. you sighed in annoyance when you couldn't find enough pictures and decided you'd be needing to go take some more. you swiped out of the app and began listening to whatever rafe was saying so you could let him know that you'd be needing a photoshoot soon.
"you guys gotta see this shit," he said as he scrolled on his phone and sat up a little straighter. "it's like fuckin' heaven, i'm tellin' you. 'nd she just doesn't care. none of those tantrums about privacy and all that other bullshit. i do whatever i want with 'em."
he leaned forward to show the two whatever he'd pulled up on his phone and their jaws immediately dropped. "holy shit, dude," topper mumbled, completely mesmerized by the screen.
kelce had the same look, leaning in a little to get a better look. "goddamn man. you got her all to yourself?"
your ears perked up at that and you shut your phone off, eyeing rafe wearily. "all mine," he stated with a smug grin. "i've got hundreds jus' sitting in this album. they just keep gettin' better every time i add one."
you felt your heart drop to your stomach and bile begin to rise in your throat. "you're one lucky son of a bitch," topper said with a laugh before sticking his hand up for a high five. "i'll be right back. y'all want any drinks or anything."
rafe looked at you momentarily. "jus' water," he replied, knowing you didn't care for anything else too much.
"i'll take a beer," kelce said while standing along with the blonde. "i gotta take a piss. be back in a minute."
topper let out a hearty laugh and slapped him on the back playfully. "yeah right."
as soon as the two left, you were quickly crawling over to rafe and snatching his phone from his hands. "what the fuck is your problem?" he snapped.
you stared down at it in shock. it was a picture of you from a few nights ago. one taken from a higher angle with your ass propped up in the air, you hair disheveled all across the pillows, your hands gripping onto the sheets by your head, and his cum coating your cheeks and mid-back.
your lip began to tremble and you dropped the phone into his lap rudely. "are you serious? why would you show that to them? do you know how embarrassing that is?"
he laughed. genuinely laughed in your face. "are you serious? it's not that big of a deal. you always blow things like this way out of proportion. you say you want me to show you off and shit and now you're pissed when i do?"
"i didn't mean in a disgusting way," you spat back. "i didn't expect you to go show off a vulnerable picture of me and have you and your friends talk about me like and object as if i'm not sitting right here!"
you could see the frustration building inside of him. he grabbed your wrist harshly and used it to pull you closer to him. "don't you dare fuckin' talk to me like that. before you ever even think about raising your voice at me again, think about who runs this shit, alright? cause it sure as hell isn't you. just remember, i wasn't the one begging for a chance, you understand me?"
a deep red blush creeped up your neck and onto your cheeks out of embarrassment. "I didn't mean it like that rafe," you said quietly. you didn't like when he was mad at you and you definitely didn't want him to leave you. "i'm sorry, i wasn't thinking."
"thats what i thought," he said cockily as he let go of your wrist. "you think i was gonna make a cute little instagram post or somethin'? that what you wanted?"
yes. it was. it was what you were dreaming of. but you knew better than to upset rafe. you were meant to say what he wanted to hear in times like this. you began to convince yourself that maybe he was actually right. maybe it was better this way. "no. i don't want that."
he smiled and chuckled. "good," he replied. now get your shoes on and get your ass to the car."
your brows furrowed in confusion. you had only been here for and hour or two. "but rafe--"
"do i need to repeat myself?" he was pissed. you didn't need to hear anything else to know that. "get in the fucking car. we're gonna go home and you're gonna sleep off this bratty fuckin' attitude. then when you get up, you're gonna drop all this bullshit and apologize to me the right way. got it?"
you nodded shyly and began to move quickly to find your shoes. you were in for a long, exhausting night.

Baela has made you breakfast. On the kitchen counter is a plate holding a single slice of wheat toast with a transparently thin smear of peanut butter. You’re already nauseous; the smell of toast in the air is enough to make your stomach lurch and the caustic burn of acid rise in your throat. In their vase, the sunflowers are perky and radiant, like the nuggets of gold that beckoned settlers to the West Coast in the mid-1800s, the hope, the possibility, the indomitable dream.
“I don’t think I can eat anything,” you say.
“Try,” Baela insists, pushing the plate towards you. Jace isn’t shuffling around lackadaisically or sprawled across the orange couch; he must still be asleep. “You aren’t going to make a good impression if you’re all woozy and retching everywhere. You don’t want to look half-dead when you meet Maroon 5, do you?”
“Oh my God.” You chuckle languidly, rubbing your forehead. Your eyes ache; you’ve barely slept. “I completely forgot they’re going to be there.”
Baela grabs a can of La Croix out of the refrigerator and sets it down beside your toast. “You’re that freaked out about the bathtub thing?”
“I guess so.”
“You wanted to be an actress. You’re getting your wish. It’s a blessing.”
And a curse, you think before you can stop yourself. You nibble at your peanut butter toast reluctantly. “I shouldn’t complain.”
“No, you shouldn’t,” Baela says.
You crack open the La Croix and take a sip: icy, sharp, oddly dry, Strawberry Peach, pretty awful. “It could be a lot worse.”
“Yeah, it’s not like it’s a Harvey Weinstein situation.” And in her tone is a quiet condemnation: you don’t belong here, you don’t have what it takes.
“What are you doing today?” you ask to distract yourself.
“Gym, the farmers’ market, practicing French.” Because Baela is leaving for Paris in a few weeks, and her agent didn’t even have to forge her a resume to get her the part. “Maybe you’ll meet a guy on the music video set, like a camera dude or a boom operator or something, and then you can finally have a real boyfriend and stop fantasizing about your elderly engaged agent!”
I doubt it. Nonetheless, you smirk weakly as you nurse your La Croix. “Let’s hope he’s not a hobosexual like Jace. We’re running out of room.”
“Hey,” Baela says as she admires your sunflowers with a soft, fond smile. “Jace isn’t so bad.”
“No,” you agree. “No, he’s not.”
You are standing on the sidewalk outside your apartment building when Aegon rolls up in his white Chrysler Sebring convertible, just a few minutes shy of 8 a.m. Hair stylists, makeup artists, and costume designers will reinvent you when you get to set, so you are dressed for comfort: an olive green floral sundress with large buttons down the front, your trusty TOMS wedges, just a blur of eyeshadow swept across your lids with a fingertip so you don’t feel naked, sparkly gold Bold Moves by Huda Beauty. Aegon is already blaring Lose Yourself and rapping along loudly, wearing his aviator sunglasses and flashing gang signs, his sandy blonde hair brutalized from the wind:
“I’ve got to formulate a plot, or end up in jail or shot,
Success is my only motherfuckin’ option, failure’s not,
Mom, I love you, but this trailer’s got to go,
I cannot grow old in Salem’s Lot,
So here I go, it’s my shot,
Feet, fail me not,
This may be the only opportunity that I got…”
“I told my dad you drive one of these,” you say as you climb into the Sebring. “He said they’re super unreliable.”
“Oh, absolutely,” Aegon replies. “But I have lots of money and very few responsibilities, so repairs aren’t a problem. And it cruises so smooth.” When he passes you a venti-sized iced vanilla latte, his right hand is shaking.
“You okay?”
Aegon flashes a grin. “Too much caffeine.” He whips away from the curb and drives towards the interchange of the 405, five chaotic lanes that fly northwest towards Beverly Hills. He is wearing his haphazard suit again, his jacket too big and his tie too skinny, reminding you of the Jehovah’s Witnesses who used to come proselytizing to your parents house until one day Tripp got fed up and told them you were Satanists. That is apparently sufficient to get a family on some kind of blacklist. Mom was mortified.
You are slurping your vanilla latte—very slowly, so your queasy stomach will not rebel—and trying to think of how to bring up the new scene situation when Aegon gets a call. Eminem vanishes from the Sebring’s speakers, and Aegon unplugs his phone from the aux and lifts it to his ear.
“Hello?” Aegon is merging onto the 405, crossing dotted white lines until he reaches the High Occupancy Vehicle lane along the concrete barrier. “Hey, Brando. What’s up?” A pause. “Why, what’s on Monday?”
You look over at Aegon: one hand on the steering wheel, hair whipping in the wind, black sunglasses that the early light glints off of, thoughtful creases etching into his forehead and around his eyes as he listens, endless blue sky above and miles passing anonymously below. It’s the morning of Thursday, July 3rd, and you have known him for three weeks, and you—who once made Mason wait months to do anything more than kiss you—think that if Aegon laid his palm on your thigh right now, only a whisper-thin layer of cotton between you and the warmth of his palm, it would feel not just good but right, safe, destined, and your drumming heartbeat would turn calm like the sea after a storm, and you would believe you were capable of anything he asked for.
I don’t want him to think I’m weak. I don’t want him to be disappointed in me.
“Right, yeah, I have to go to that,” Aegon says. There’s a lull as Brandon asks him something. “Because they keep trying to get Steve to do his own stunts and I don’t want him to end up with a broken back like Brendan Fraser. Uh huh. Sure. Oh, and remind Steve that he’s invited to the charity gala thing. Yeah. I don’t know, call Aemond and ask. No, I don’t want to call him, that’s why I’m telling you to do it. Okay. Cool, thanks. Hey, I have no idea when we’ll be done with the Maroon 5 thing so no need to wait at the office, you can take off at three or four or whenever. Sounds good. See ya.” Aegon hangs up and glances at you. “You’re invited too, by the way.”
You startle; your thoughts had been drifting. “Invited to what?”
“The gala in a few weeks. It’s to raise money for UNICEF. All my clients are invited.”
Just like they’re invited to his wedding in Turks and Caicos, you think, and you are hit by another pang of nausea so strong you put your latte down in the cup holder next to Aegon’s drink, something topped with whipped cream and a swirl of chocolate syrup. “I’d love to go! It’s like grown-up prom!”
Aegon shakes his head, but he’s smiling. Again, you are mulling over if and how to mention the new scene—does he already know? will he think I’m complaining?—but now traffic is thick and a Tesla cuts Aegon off, and he is focused on driving and reading the directions on the screen of the GPS mounted on the Sebring’s windshield, and you don’t want to distract him, and when he plugs his phone back into the aux there is a Red Hot Chili Peppers song that comes plucking out of the speakers as the mid-70s breeze ghosts across your skin like feather-light fingerprints: She Looks To Me.
The mansion is perched on the cliffside of Bendict Canyon, red-gold earth that glows under the rising sun, gnarled trees and shrubs twisting skyward from arid soil. The circular driveway is already crowded with trucks and vans, along with a few BMWs and Range Rovers. Aegon parks his convertible near the end of the driveway and then walks with you into the building: mid-century modern, glass walls and sand-colored marble floors to match the accents of amber and warm teak wood, jewel-tone velvet furniture and shag area rugs, statues that pretend to be gold and plants made of plastic. There are attendants brushing exotic cats, Ragdolls and Himalayans. There are people picking over trays of fruit and sandwiches, and others setting up light fixtures and placing marks on the floor with tiny Xs of white tape. You imagine yourself standing on them, and your knees and ankles feel weak as you toddle in your wedges.
Dan is here, and he parts a sea of assistants and sound technicians to cross the living room to greet you and Aegon, beaming and energetic and showing no indications of deception or malpractice. You watch as he and Aegon chat and laugh at each other’s jokes, tales of their most disastrous filming experiences, and you think: If Aegon trusts him, shouldn’t I?
Dan waves Maroon 5 over, and you meet the band but even as it’s happening you can feel yourself not committing it to memory, your skull too full of rattling anxiety, fog-like doubt. They are here to tour the set, but they seem halfhearted about it, and soon they find an excuse to leave; the band is filming their scenes on a different day and presumably have more interesting things to do. If I had millions of dollars, you think distractedly, I would want to be on a film set every day of my life. You are also introduced to the male actor, and he is very attractive in a tan, gym rat, California sort of way, and he seems perfectly polite as well. Aegon hovers nearby until the actor casually mentions his husband, then Aegon slides his sunglasses into his suit jacket and wanders off to pet the long-haired and ill-tempered exotic cats.
A copy of the script is placed in your hands and an assistant leads you upstairs to a small bedroom filled with racks of clothing and a station set up for hair and makeup. The costume designer and stylists work on you, and you make small talk so you won’t think too much about what’s about to happen and start hyperventilating. The first scene, blessedly, is fully-clothed: blush pink Prada ballgown, four-inch heels, your updo gracefully falling loose, dramatic fake eyelashes and inky mascara tears snaking down your cheeks, a screaming match with your supposed soon-to-be-ex lover. You and one of the makeup artists chatter about favorite eyeshadow palettes as she paints your skin like a canvas: a base of matte pink Love Letter by Anastasia Beverly Hills, the sheen of dusk-colored Brink by Natasha Denona.
When you’re ready, the costume designer says: “I don’t think they need you quite yet. You can stay in here, if you’d like.” She smiles, believing she is doing you a favor. “I know you actors need your space to get into character.” And then before you can think of how to protest, she herds the stylists out of the bedroom and you are left alone with the poltergeist of the near-future, cold pockets that make you shiver and the racket of furniture being rearranged in other rooms. You leaf through the script and then, when your hands start shaking, leave it on the low platform bed with a geometric print blanket.
Knowing you shouldn’t, you go to the racks of clothing and paw through garments until you find the lingerie for the bathtub scene: all black lace, all semi-transparent, and while clever camera angles and post-production editing will conceal anything elicit from the audience, there will be no such discretion here. And even if only the essential crew is present for the scene—though there’s no indication it will be a closed set—that’s still a cinematographer, a key grip, a camera operator, a sound technician…and Dan the director, of course.
Your family’s words come rushing back to you, a chorus of skepticism and caution and an underlying conviction that no one could want you for the right reasons:
If she wants to embarrass herself, let her.
Well, be careful, darling.
Who knows what his intentions are.
Men can be so creepy.
You walk towards the bed in a daze and then sink to the floor, backing up until you hit the mattress, hiding there in the small shadow, a sanctuary from the daylight that is flooding in through the glass walls. You feel like you can’t breathe, like your vision is going dark, like the chambers of your heart are splitting open, and yet you know from all your father’s stories of people showing up at the ER erroneously believing they are dying that this is all in your head, and you force yourself to take deep, slow breaths so you won’t pass out.
I can’t do this.
But you have to.
Everyone’s right. I’m not the kind of girl who makes it in Hollywood. Not exceptional enough, not bold enough, not beautiful enough, not willing to do what it takes.
But you’re not ready to give up yet.
There is a knock at the door. “Hey, you camera-ready, sunshine?” Aegon says from outside.
You press your curled index fingers just beneath your eyes to try to stop them from watering. “Yeah. Two minutes.” But your voice cracks, and now he knows something is wrong.
“Are you naked?”
You sniffle. “No.”
Aegon opens the door, and then he has crossed the room and is kneeling down on the floor beside you in his black suit, and he’s completely mystified because he’s never seen you this way before, and he’s half-reaching for you but he’s also hesitating, not knowing if you want to be touched. “What happened? What’s wrong with you?”
“I think…um…” Another sniffle. “I guess I’m just a little freaked out about the scene they added.”
Aegon is confounded. “What scene?”
You reach up onto the bed behind you and fumble around until your fingers grasp the script. You give it to Aegon and he hurriedly skims through the pages. When he stumbles across the scene in question, he goes entirely still and his murky blue eyes turn dark and hard and focused in a way you’ve learned is rare for him.
He asks without lifting his gaze from the paper: “When did you find out about this?”
“Yesterday night. Dan brought the script to my apartment.”
Aegon looks at you. “He showed up at your house?”
“Yeah,” you whimper pathetically.
“Did he touch you?”
“What? No, nothing like that. He stayed in the hallway.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I’m sorry. I kind of assumed you knew.” A pause. “And I didn’t want to disappoint you.”
Aegon, still clutching the script, stands and bolts for the bedroom door.
“No!” you beg in a whisper, lunging after him and grabbing his empty hand. “Aegon, no, I can do it. I don’t want to lose the job. I’ll do whatever they want. Aegon? Aegon, please, I don’t want to give up, I don’t want to go home a failure—”
“Don’t talk,” Aegon says, low and violent. “Let me handle it.” And before you can reply, he has ripped away from you and is through the doorway, down the staircase, into the living room where people are gathered under bright lights and making last-minute adjustments to furniture, décor, equipment. Exotic cats lounge on the velvet sofas. Your faux lover paces in a flawlessly-tailored white suit; he smiles when he sees you, then it swiftly dies.
Dan is chortling with two other men and leaning against a wall. Aegon rages to him, shoves him so hard Dan stumbles, strikes the wall two inches from his face. Aegon’s knuckles come away bloody; there is now a dent in the wall marred with a stain of crimson. An assistant screams; everyone in the room is gawking.
Dan is not just stunned by irate. “What the fuck, man?! That’s coming out of her paycheck!”
“How about we take it from your life insurance policy?”
“What is your problem?!”
“No, you know what you did!” Aegon shouts, and Dan is bigger than him but Aegon is seething, fearless, unrelenting, giving him no space. He balls up the script and pitches it at Dan; it bounces off his temple. “You knew any changes to the script were supposed to go through me and you hid this, and that’s fucked up, and it’s not happening. Take the scene out.”
Dan throws his arms wide in disbelief. “You said no nudity and no sex scenes, and this is neither. I didn’t con you, man.”
“Don’t act stupid. You went to her house and you sprung this on her and you thought you could get away with breaking the rules, and maybe you’ve done this before and no one stopped you because it’s just innocuous enough for you to have plausible deniability. But you’re not going to do it to me, and you’re not going to do it to my girl.”
“You think I need her?!” Dan yells, as if it’s preposterous. “She’s a nobody, she’s nothing special! She should be down on her knees thanking Baby Jesus that she’s on this set right now. You think I don’t have ten other actresses I could call?”
“So call them,” Aegon says. “But you’ll have to reschedule the shoot, and I know you’re paying a thousand bucks an hour for this place.”
“Hey dumbass, I spent over a thousand dollars on wine last night—”
“And I will never work with you again. And neither will Aemond, or Helaena, or Daeron, or any of our people.”
For the first time, Dan looks uncertain, stymied, wary. He studies Aegon as his crew avert their eyes awkwardly. On the sofas, the Ragdolls and Himalayans lick themselves and swish their fluffy tails. Aegon glances back at you. Your eyes are wide, glossy pools of pleading.
I don’t want to lose the job. Please, please, don’t make me give up on the dream yet.
“Look,” Aegon tells Dan, now level and diplomatic. “Do the right thing. You fucked up, you own it. Take the scene out and we’re cool. You get your music video shot on schedule. We get the originally agreed-upon terms. Everyone goes home happy. You’re a very talented director and I’ve only ever heard great things about you. I’d hate to have to start correcting people when they’re singing your praises.”
There is a long stretch of silence, and then Dan chuckles and holds up his hands as if surrendering. “Fine, no problem, we’ll axe the scene. It was just an idea, and maybe I got carried away. That was my bad. I had no idea you’d be so touchy about it.”
Aegon smiles, thin and tight and ingenuine. “I’ve been known to be sensitive.” He holds out his right hand; blood drips from his knuckles. An assistant drops to the marble floor and scrambles around wiping up the mess, viscous and scarlet. “No hard feelings?”
Dan shakes Aegon’s wounded hand. “No hard feelings.” Then he marvels at the blood in his palm and an assistant descends to disinfect him. Another moves an abstract painting so it covers the damage to the wall.
Aegon returns to you, and your pulse is slow and hushed, and your breathing is effortless, and you are transfixed; you cannot look away from him, you cannot believe he’s real. “So, uh,” he says, quietly so the rest of the room won’t hear. “No need to worry about that anymore. You want to take ten minutes to chill and get in the zone, and then we’ll get started?”
“No, I can go right now,” you tell him.
“Okay.” Aegon turns to Dan. “She’s ready.” Then he points at the male actor. Aegon probably doesn’t mean it to, but it comes out sounding like a threat. “You ready?”
The actor nods frenetically. “I’m ready!”
“Great,” Aegon says, and he steps out of the shot, and you step into it, and by the time the camera rolls you aren’t you anymore. You are a woman who desperately loves the man in front of her—instantly transformed from a stranger to a soulmate—and you are betrayal and jealousy and loss and wrath, and while your pink Prada dress is formal and wondrous your body is ever-contorting to be weak, vulnerable, breaking as you realize he is leaving.
Then you are clawing your way up the staircase in a heavy fur coat that seems to swallow you, then you are in a bedroom making unanswered phone calls in a lavender silk nightgown, then you are in the kitchen shattering plates and glasses in a neon green mini-dress, then you are in a leopard-print robe petting the exotic cats in the living room, then you are drowning in the swimming pool in a black empire-waist evening gown. Aegon follows you around the mansion and stands wordlessly in corners, chomping on his Juicy Fruit gum, holding the towels that assistants bring him against his knuckles; during every wardrobe change, he waits just outside the bedroom door.
The shoot isn’t done until after sunset, and you thank everyone profusely before you leave: the crew, the male actor, and especially Dan. You still need him to promote and release the music video, and assuming he doesn’t hate you after Aegon’s outburst, he’ll be a valuable reference.
When Aegon speeds his Sebring out of the mansion’s circular driveway and onto winding cliffside roads presided over by the towering shadows of palm trees, the first thing he says to you is: “You are never working with that man again.”
“Okay,” you agree immediately. And before you can say anything else he has put his phone to his ear. Faintly, you can hear ringing, and then a voice that you think you recognize as Brandon’s.
“Hi,” Aegon snaps. “What do I pay you for?”
“Aegon, please don’t be mad at him,” you say quietly. He’s driving very, very fast. The streetlights race by in a blur, the night wind tears like talons through your hair.
Aegon ignores you. “Why was her address on the stuff we sent to the Maroon 5 video people?” A moment passes. “No, it clearly wasn’t redacted because Dan Sacco showed up at her apartment last night. Yeah. That’s what I’m saying. Well, open your email and find out.”
“Aegon, he’s supposed to be off work right now. He’s at home, I’m fine, it’s not important.”
“Shh.” And then, after a long pause, Aegon says to Brandon: “Oh. I get it. Okay, yeah, my mistake. Sorry about that. Enjoy the 4th tomorrow, I’ll pay you extra for this conversation. Alright. You too. Bye.” Aegon sighs and looks over at you, as if he’s asking for forgiveness. “I mislabeled the PDFs. Brando thought he sent them the redacted one but he actually sent the original. He should have double-checked anyway, he usually does, but I was rushing him to get it out because I was trying to make sure you got the job. So…it’s my fault and I’m really sorry.”
“It’s fine, Aegon,” you say softly.
“It’s not fine.” And you don’t have the opportunity to correct him because Aegon is scrolling through his contacts, and despite his earlier aversion to calling his brother Aemond, soon Aegon is recounting what happened and warning Aemond to never work with Dan, never recommend him to actors, never sell him a script, that Dan is dead to all of them as soon as the music video is officially released.
Aegon merges onto the 10 and heads east towards his office in Elysian Park. You don’t wonder why he’s not taking you south to Harbor Gateway, because you don’t want to go home yet. It’s well after 9 p.m., and the freeway is vast and open, silhouettes of skyscrapers and palm trees, reflective green signs indicating routes to Pasadena, San Bernadino, Santa Ana, San Pedro. Under the streetlights that arch overhead, you can see that the knuckles on Aegon’s right hand have turned violet and maroon, bruises down to the bone. When he reaches Downtown, Aegon’s Sebring takes the 110 north, and you are reminded of the route you drove to Elysian Park on the day you first met him, a girl with no prospects that he believed in anyway.
Aegon doesn’t hang up the phone until he’s at the curb outside the half-duplex he rents, a blinking blue neon sign that reads Targ Talent Agency in one window. He rests his wounded hand on the back of your seat when he twists around to look as he’s parallel parking. In the lobby, he goes to the minifridge behind Brandon’s desk and gets two green glass bottles of Perrier, passes you one of them, continues to his office and collapses into his chair, staring up at you as he swigs his Perrier and drops of condensation fall down onto his suit. He thumps his shoes up onto his desk, characteristically littered with gum wrappers and manilla folders and loose papers, framed photographs and his recently-acquired ceramic bowl of Honeycrisp apples. You are still standing.
“That happens sometimes,” Aegon says after a while. “Just so you know going forward, because I failed to make it clear before, script changes always go through me. I negotiate with the other party and if any modifications are approved I tell you about them, not the other way around. And unless you’ve cultivated some kind of working relationship with them, directors and producers should not be reaching out to you personally.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing?”
You aren’t really sure. “I guess I should have known better.”
Aegon smirks, tired and cynical. “I told you this place is a curse.”
“You tried to warn me,” you concede.
“Do you believe me now?”
“No. I still want to be in Los Angeles.” I still want to be here with you.
He considers you, his head tilted thoughtfully to the side. “You did a really good job today, sunshine. Despite everything.”
“I hope so.”
He gives you a wry half-smile and takes another gulp of his Perrier. You haven’t opened yours yet. You are wearing your street clothes from this morning, TOMS wedges, unceremonious olive green sundress. Your hair is still damp from the scene in the pool and smells like chlorine. Aegon sighs deeply and kneads the area just above his right eye with his fingertips, as if he has a headache.
“Aegon?” you say, and he looks up at you. “Thank you for what you did for me.”
“I’d do it for anyone.”
“You’d almost break your knuckles?”
He glances at the back of his hand as if he had forgotten about the damage incurred there: clotted blood, subterranean bruises. “No, that was just for you.”
You set your unopened bottle of Perrier and your purse on his desk. Then you step out of your wedges, reach beneath your sundress, hook your thumbs under the waistband of your panties and pull them down to your ankles. You kick them away and leave them on the scuffed wood floor with your wedges. Aegon is watching you, his lips parted and his dark blue eyes amazed, as you walk to his desk and sit on the edge, pluck a Honeycrisp apple out of the bowl there, and take a large, famished bite. When saccharine juice spills down your lips, you don’t wipe it away.
Slowly, Aegon’s own mouth blooms into a smile. “I was wondering if it was mutual.”
He stands, harvests the apple from your hand, buries his teeth in the wet yielding flesh in the same place where you bit it. Then he lets the apple tumble to the floor as his hands rise to your face and he kisses you, and if you once discovered that this was easy with Mason then here it is instinctive, necessary, sheltering, and you have never felt so safe, and you have never been so sure of anything. You are unfastening the large buttons that run down the front of your sundress. Aegon is shrugging off his suit jacket and opening his shirt, his chest and belly soft and warm, no distance between you as you lie back across the desk and Aegon climbs on top of you, tasting like apples and Juicy Fruit and night air. Folders and papers cascade in a flurry. The bowl of apples is shoved off the ledge and shatters. Photographs are knocked to the floor, their glass panes splintering.
You are afraid only once, when Aegon unclasps your bra and tosses it away, but then he’s touching and kissing you there, lips and tongue and teeth, and his need is so palpable, and you can’t believe you ever considered scalpels and stitches. “I knew you were perfect,” he whispers against your throat, and when his war-torn hand travels between your legs you are already slick and starving, and you tell him you can’t wait.
You glance down as he rummages around in a drawer of his desk and eventually—seconds that feel like an eternity—finds a few condoms in silvery wrappers. “I’m sorry you have to use one,” you say, breathing heavily as you lie beneath him, not wanting to ruin this. “I’m sorry I’m not on the pill or—”
“I’d wrap up anyway. I’m serious about the no kids thing.”
And then he’s easing himself into you, and it’s better than it’s ever been because you’ve never wanted it more, and you’re trying not to moan too loudly because you don’t know if there’s anyone home in the other half of the rundown little duplex, and when your eyes flutter open you see flashes of the mint green walls, beams of headlights raking across the windows, gleaming emerald shards of your Perrier bottle that has tumbled to the floor and broken there, hemorrhaging a sea of carbonated water. It’s not a climax but a plateau so high you can’t think, can’t speak, your fingers in Aegon’s hair and your hips moving with his, your legs linked around him and his voice in your ear, is this okay for you, is this good, and you are nodding and gasping and letting him take you to a place where you can have everything, magic that usually only exists on pages and screens.
Aegon finishes—too soon, with some embarrassment—then pulls back and is alarmed to find tears on your cheeks. He wipes them away with his hands, bewildered, concerned. “What are you doing? Don’t cry, sunshine.”
You laugh shakily. “I’m fine, I swear, it’ll go away. I just get emotional.”
“Always?”
“When it’s good.”
Aegon kisses you, sweet and slow, and then he climbs off the desk and flings the condom somewhere, grabs your hips, drags you towards to him. You sit up when you realize what he’s doing.
“Oh no,” you say. “Wait, no, you don’t have to. Don’t worry about it.”
Aegon furrows his brow at you impatiently. “Do you want to come or not?”
“Well yeah, but it can take a while. So I’ll just do it myself later.”
“Shut up and put your legs over my shoulders.” He yanks you closer and you fall back onto the desk, now damp and slippery with perspiration, and you are grinning up at the ceiling, astonished and euphoric and a little sheepish, not expecting it to work but then being overwhelmed by him, coaxed into it like tumbling down the crumbling wall of a canyon, plummeting into inevitable and effortless gravity, the earth disintegrating beneath your clawing fingers when you try to catch yourself. Then Aegon takes your hand and shows you that he is hard again.
“More,” you plead in a whisper, and you go with him down to the floor, careful to avoid jagged flecks of glass and fragments of the shattered ceramic bowl, and you are helping him roll a new condom on because he’s taking too long and you can’t wait, and you’re both laughing as you straddle him, and then it becomes something quiet and slow and indelibly heavy, imprints in sand that eons of waves could not wash away, and afterwards you lie together on the floor for a long time, not saying anything, not tethered to reality, drifting in a bone-weary mirage of nightscape chemicals until the sun will rise and paint the world in color again.
You get up and start looking for your wedges. You have to shake them to get pebbles of green glass out. Aegon, still lying on the wood floor, watches you; you smirk guiltily. “I should probably go home soon. I have to be at Cold Stone tomorrow morning.”
Aegon seems surprised. “You’re working on the 4th of July?”
“Only until 6:30. Then Baela and I are going to see the fireworks.”
“And you’re driving to work, right? Not walking?”
“Right,” you promise.
Aegon groans as he drags himself to his feet, pulls on his suit and misbuttons his shirt, surveys the damage done to his office and runs his hands through his disheveled blonde hair. He shakes his head and looks a little sad, vacant, meditative. Does he regret it? you worry; but then Aegon turns to you and smiles. “Let’s get going.”
The long-gone daylight has been replaced by streetlights and headlights and coils of neon, glowing through the darkness like manmade stars, young synthetic constellations. As the Sebring sails down the ghost town of the 110 at midnight, Aegon passes you his phone. “Listen to whatever you want.”
You scroll through his Spotify playlist; there are five hundred songs, lots of Alanis Morissette and Pearl Jam and Third Eye Blind and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You remember listening to one of their songs on the way to the mansion in Beverly Hills this morning; Aegon must really like them. You choose another Red Hot Chili Peppers song at random, one you’ve never heard of before, Hard To Concentrate. The hypnotic guitar chords spill from the speakers, and as you gaze dreamily over six abandoned southbound lanes, you can see on the periphery of your vision that Aegon keeps glancing over at you, his hair flying in the wind and his bruised right hand resting on the steering wheel.
Aegon parks illegally in a fire lane on the curb outside your apartment. “Hey,” he says when you open the passenger’s door, and you stop and return to him. “I’ll see you soon, alright?”
You check the analog clock on the dashboard, a black box of green numbers. It’s just after midnight on July 4th. You murmur as you kiss Aegon one last time, your lips curled into a smile: “Happy Independence Day.”
Then you float up the concrete steps and into your apartment building, higher than the sun at noon.

Summary- Your secret admirer is still going, it was just days before Valentine’s Day and you needed to know who the person is behind these anonymous letters.

word count: 2380
masterlist; valentines special; obx masterlist
- part 1
-----------------------------
It had been a couple of days and it was still going on. Every morning when you would open your locker you would be met with an envelope. It has been a fee days since the first one you received but each one was just as sweet as the last, if not sweeter.
With your shoes hitting the ground, you walk the path from the school doors to your locker. Opening your locker you were met with the expecting presence of a white envelope falling out and at your feet, yet this time there were flowers attached.
You reach down and grasp the envelope between your fingers. This time it was a plain white envelope with a couple of hand picked flowers attached to the seal by tape. A smile graces your face, this was the first time flowers have been attached.
Just like always you look around the hall around you, seeing if you could spot your secret admirer. Looking around you see someone quickly turn their body around so their back would be facing you. With confusion etched on your face your eyebrows furrow and examine him.
JJ Maybank
Thats who you were looking at right now, you could tell just by the back of him. Surely he wasn’t your secret admirer, right? No, JJ Maybank is the ladies man of Outer Banks, no way in hell would he ever do something romantic like this, especially keeping it up for this long. You push the thought of JJ to the back of your mind and face your locker, gently pulling the flowers off.
Once you had pulled the flowers off of the envelope, the tape pulling with it. You tape the flowers onto the inside door of your locker and proceed with opening the note.
‘I use to say my favorite thing to look at was the sunset, but I take that back. It’s definitely you. I hope you liked the flowers, don’t have money for real ones right now. Hopefully one day I will grow the balls to actually talk to you princess, I could actually do something about these crazy feelings’
secret boy :)
You bite your lip and look down at the note in your hands, unable to contain your smile. Tomorrow was Valentine’s day and honestly you were scared these notes would end when the holiday passes, you looked forward to them and they were the best part of your day, you hoped they wouldn’t end. But truthfully you just wanted to know who it was behind all of this.
Tucking the letter into your backpack you then head to class, smile unable to be wiped from your face.
Just like every day before today since you have been getting the notes you looked around and inspected your classrooms, trying your best to figure out who your secret admirer is. You have yet to concoct something, you had absolutely no idea who the one writing these notes are.
JJ’s pov:
I was sitting at one of the many lunch tables in the cafeteria. The only reason I ever stuck around this long for a school day was either A. because of Pope and Kiara or recently B. Y/n.
If I was being quite honest, I don’t know how she hasn’t picked up on the fact the love letters are me. I feel like Ive been very noticeable with my ogling, unless she was ignoring it. Maybe she knew it was me but was ignoring the fact that it was, what if she’s disappointed that i’m the one sending her letters? what if shes disgusted by me? But she smiles at the notes every morning. I don’t know but i’m kinda stressed and honestly quite frankly pretty very down bad.
My thoughts were cut off by the sound of Pope’s voice “dude, what are you thinking about?” he asks, directed towards JJ. The boy in question jumps slightly in his seat and looks over at Pope. “Jeez! nothing, I’m not thinkin bout nothin.” he tries to defend himself, looking down at his tray
“your future wife just walked in” John B cuts in, nudging his head in the direction of his eyes before Pope could get another word out.
JJ quickly turns around, looking in the direction John B’s eyes are looking. When he does he was met with your beautiful self walking through the lunchroom doors and taking a seat at one of the many tables, somewhat close to the table he was currently sat at.
“funny how you knew exactly who he was talking about” Pope leans forward onto the table, looking at JJ with a mocking smile.
JJ goes to rebuttal but is cut off by a groan. “you still haven’t talked to her?” Kiara asks in annoyance, looking towards the blonde boy with slight confusion. JJ never had a problem with girls, never had a problem approaching them either, you were different.
Once again the blonde boy goes to defend himself but this time John B speaks up before him “He’s too pussy” he teases, looking strictly at JJ
“I am not” he scoffs defensively
“oh really?” Kiara dryly responds
“yeah right” Pope scoffs a slight laugh, looking down at his food and beginning to eat.
“then go do it” John B says, leaning onto the table with a smirk while looking at JJ
“what?” JJ repeats, confused
“if you’re not to scared, go talk to her” John B shrugs
JJ takes a deep breath and looks between all of his friends expecting expressions one by one. “I cant do it” he groans and after his words so do all of his friends
“Dude” John B and Pope complain in unison
“pussy” Kiara coughs
Back to 3rd person pov:
It was lunchtime and you were sitting down at one of the lunch tables with a couple of your friends, unknowingly not that far from your secret admirers table where he sat with his friends.
Time was going by and conversation with your friends hadn’t lessened, you just weren’t completely locked it. You couldn’t help but zone out every now and then. During one odd your zone outs you feel the presence of eyes on you, you look around and spot JJ Maybanks blue eyes staring at you a couple of tables away, his body turned to the side so he could look at you.
He flashes you a quick smile but before you had the chance to return it he was already turning back around and looking towards his friends. You then noticed all of his friends look at you once he was turned around
weird
Your eyebrows furrow, he seemed nervous. Why would JJ Maybank be nervous? You then move your eyes away from him and back to your friends, trying to focus in on their conversation.
It was now the last class of the day and you were annoyed just like the multiple days before, you still had no clue who it was sending you the love letters and at this point you didn’t think you ever would. You look around the classroom and see once again JJ Maybank, this time he wasn’t looking at you, he was looking down at his hands. You’re confused but you continue to watch him, he was looking down at one of his hands while the other picked at it.
The bell then rung, causing you to jump from your seat slightly and Maybank looks up quickly.
You quickly got up from your seat and walked towards him. When you got to his desk he was standing up and looking putting his notebook back into his back. “hi” you speak up from next to him
JJ quickly turns to you in shock, his eyes wide and his body freezing. “what?” he utters. A smile creeps onto your face and you repeat yourself “I said Hi”
“oh, oh right Hey” JJ says, leaning onto the desk with his hands but quickly taking them off with a slight almost unnoticeable hiss. You look down at his hands in confusion.
“can I see?” you ask gently, reaching your hands out for his
The boys face is still the same as when he first turned to you, he tilts his head at your words and look down at you in shock. “my hands?” he utters, you nod with a slight upturn of your lips. He puts his hands into yours gently, seemingly nervous.
You pull his hands up closer to your face, palm up and inspect them. When you looked closely at his hands you could see a couple of thorns in them. Thorns? like flowers, you received flowers this morning, could it really be JJ who was behind the letters? You look up at him with a smile “I got tweezers in my car, I can help you” you suggest.
JJ is looking down at you in shock and after a moment he breaks out of his trance, a smile forming on his face. “lead the way princess” he says, his hands pulling away from yours. It was definitely him. He grabs his bag and follows you out to your car. What neither of you knew was that the pogues had been watching the interaction with smirks and smiles on their faces, all of them happy the boy finally got to talk to you, even if he didn’t make the first move.
The two of you arrive at your car, you getting into your drivers seat and him sitting in your passenger seat. Once your tweezers are in your hand you pull his hand closer to you, resting on the console between the two of you. Your thumb was gently rubbing the inside of his wrist while you pluck the thorns from his skin. “thank you” JJ speaks up softly.
You look up from his hands and smile at him “you’re welcome” you respond just as softly as he spoke.
Time had passed and you were now all finished plucking the thorns from his hands. You put the tweezer back into its bag in your console and look up at him “it’s you, isn’t it?” you ask him
JJ’s smile drops slightly and his eyes widen a little. “what?” he asks
“the one sending me the letters, is it you?” you repeat
He stares at you for a moment, bewildered. After the two of you just staring at each other JJ finally sighs, his shoulders dropping as well. “yeah. Yeah it’s me” He says, looking down at his lap and fiddling with his fingers.
“thank you, they’ve been making my day” you tell him and he looks up at you with his own smile. “I would love for you to take me out, like a date. If you want of course” you say
JJ sits up straighter “are you kidding? of course I want to take you on a date. Uh um Im getting paid next week if you wanna”
You smile at him wider “I was thinking right now. You don’t have to take me on some extravagant date, it doesn’t have to involve money at all. I just want to get to know the person who has been saying these nice things about me.” you respond
JJ’s smile gets bigger if possibly and he looked at you with a smirk “well then princess, can I drive your car then?” he asks
You take a deep breath and look at him in concern, but the smile still very well on your face. “Am I going to regret this?” you ask
“never” he responds, getting out of the car. You follow his lead and step outside of the car, switching his spots so he would now be the one driving.
The drive was calm, the two of talking about your days. In your surprise JJ wasn’t a bad driver, thank god. When JJ stops the car he had pulled up at the beach. Both of you get out of the car and meet on the sand.
You guys walk along the beach together, talking about any and everything. “yknow, I meant everything I said in those notes” JJ says, hands in his pockets while he looks over at you nervously. You look over at him with a smile “Well thats good, i’m glad because it was all very sweet. My favorite part of the day honestly.” you respond
As the day went on between the two of you, you guys felt as if you have known each other for ages. It was so easy to talk to the other, you guys were laughing and you were serious and your hands would brush together when you guys walked side by side.
“thank you, this was really nice” you say softly, looking at him with a smile.
He turns to you with a wide smile “I just cant believe you made the first move and not me”
Your smile turns into a smirk as you look at him, walking in front of him and turning your body towards him so you were now talking backwards. “well you are a chicken” you remark
JJ raises his eyebrows at you “take it back” he responds
You shake your head no and suddenly break out into a sprint. JJ had begun to chase you along the beach, the two of you were in hysterics as he chased you. After a moment he finally caught you and threw you over his shoulder.
The sun was now starting to set. JJ had you over his shoulder as you laughed and told him to put you down. He walked the two of you closer to the shore as you guys laughed. The both of you sit down, your feet gently being hit by the water as you guys sit side by side and watch the sunset. His hand moves over and interlocks with yours.
Both of you turn and face each other, smile on your face unable to be wiped away. You stared at each others faces for a moment and both of you leaned in, interlocking your lips with the others in a gentle kiss beneath the sunset.
JJ couldn’t mess this up, he finally got the girl
and you finally found out who it was behind the letters. Happy Valentines to you.

I love your writings dude! Sm! Seeing some laddie hcs from you would be sick! You don’t see much of him from the movie, nor the book even if it adds a little bit more. I feel like they focus on star more. Maybe his dynamic with the boys and stuff? How was he found? Who is he closest with, probably Dwayne and Paul tbh. Also do you think he knows he’s a half vampire? I feel like he would be more scared of David and Marko, mostly David. What does he like to do for fun since he literally lives under a rock. Does he have the same music taste as the boys, can he watch films, can he read and what does he like to read? Also does he have any friends or is he just with Star and the boys all the time. I feel like that would be no because maybe parents o the boardwalk wouldn’t want their children around the boys. I have these kinds of thoughts all the time, about the boys and Star too but with the hcs and fics I can read I feel like I can piece them together better than laddie considering there’s little writing about him. (A funny thing too, would the boys try to not cuss around laddie? I feel like Paul would do it on purpose so Star would get mad or something)
Omg I have been waiting to do these for so long. It won't let me post the long version on here though so I'm gonna make an A03 account.
General laddie hcs
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3308724512e0669e53eb3a11858fbdb5/051cae07bc69f16e-8a/s540x810/34a7b9b76c328d72e6c212909ef50764bae8b2fb.jpg)
I HC Laddie as the star's younger brother, and when she got involved with the boys at first, she was having a good time. Then something happened to their parents and Laddie was going to be put into the system which Star didn't want to happen so she wanted to leave and David wouldn't let her so she made a deal with him to take Laddie so that she would stay Laddie is indeed closest to Dwayne because he and Laddie have similar personalities. Laddie is kinda quiet and pretty shy for a kid his age and Dwayne Remembers that when he was that age he was very similar. Laddie also likes Paul a lot cause Paul has a little bit of a soft spot for kids and he's the one that spoils Laddie. if Laddie sees something on the boardwalk, and he wants it. He's going to Paul cause he knows Paul will make it happen even if Star or Dwayne say no. Dwayne kinda helps Star raise Laddie cause he saw her struggling with him at first and decided to help. They are basically besties who share a kid. Now, laddie mostly Avoids David because after David took (kidnapped) him, laddie became attached to him at the hip. After all, he was just grateful to be with his sister again. But David was not having it. He wasn't trying to be an ass he just didn't want to get attached to the kid Cause he knew that with the life they lived he may not survive and he just didn't want that on his conscious so he pushed him away. Now Marko kinda freaks Laddie out a bit because Marko can be a bit..unstable. Marko Can have these really drastic and really sudden mood swings, It doesn't help that Marko will lowkey be really good with Laddie for a little bit, like showing him artwork, helping fix His stuff to suddenly just freaking the fuck out whenever Laddie comes up to him so he just Avoids marko. Laddie absolutely loves playing games with the boys and star.his favorites are physical/board games due to the cave not having electricity. He LOVES hide and seek. His all-time favorite. Some nights star will help him convince the other boys to all go outside to play with him. Another favorite of laddies is tag.But he doesn't like playing with the boys cause they are a lot faster than he is, But he does play with Star, and when Max allows it, he loves playing tag with Thorn. He also likes going To maxs house cause he can watch Scooby doo. It's his favorite show He also absolutely loves watching Jem and the holograms As well! laddie also likes to make up his own games. However, some of his games start to worry Star because they are a bit violent, and it makes her wonder if some of the things he's hearing may be influencing him wrong. Especially when Laddie ran up to her with a ripped-up teddy bear and asked her if she thought the Bear learned its lesson yet. She snatched that bear so quick- and then she had a long ass talk with him about no more torturing teddies When asked why he did it, and all Laddie said was that “he didn't like how it talked to his friends.” She thought that was weird cause Laddie didn't have any human friends. It's not that he's not allowed to have them but he just doesn't try to make them. After that whole deal though, star and dwayne Were talking and decided that everyone should start watching what they say around the kid Cause it's clearly fucking with him. Laddie Hates the censorship. He's at that age where hes in the “I'm not a little kid anymore” stage. He just wants to be part of the gang. So he goes to eavesdropping. He hears a lot of stuff he shouldn't, and it's also how he ends up learning he's a half-vampire. Laddie honestly didn't know what an actual vampire was. He had only heard the dumbed-down kid story versions of vampires but he was still scared. The boys also influence Laddie's music taste a lot. He loves all kinds of rock/metal cause of Them.they are his biggest role models so what they like. Laddie likes. Music, style, hobbies, if they like it, so does he. After learning the boys are vampires though all laddie wants is to be one which really makes it hard for star to resist giving into the pressure.

About the fight with Zayn, I do think it was something real that affected all the boys, but especially Louis. What bothered me the most at the time was that from Zayn’s side, the narrative pushed was that harry’s ambitions for a solo career caused 1D to break up, and Zayn mentioned he was never close to Harry. This wasn’t denied on Harry's side, likely because it helped his solo career. Still, some fans hold this against Harry, ignoring the fact that even Liam implied in several interviews that for things to be resolved between them, Zayn would have to acknowledge his mistakes, which seemed unlikely. Louis also addressed this. I don't hate Zayn or anything, just annoyed with how he handled things when he left 1D, suggesting that Harry was to blame.
I do think harry suggested the hiatus but not only because he wanted a solo career (probably the Azoffs also advised him), but because he realised that the five of them were struggling both physically and mentally.
Anyway, I’m really glad they've made amends. I just wish Liam could have witnessed it too.
Hi, love I don’t actually recall Zayn blaming Harry or Liam saying those things, but I think it’s pretty clear from what Zayn has said recently, and what Harry has said in the past, that it was Harry who proposed not re-signing their contracts with Syco. Zayn was very unhappy and unwell, but he was also ambitious and wanted to get a jump on Harry and release his music first, so he split.
In his interview with Call Her Daddy Zayn spoke about leaving and said:
"There was a lot of politics going on. Certain people were doing certain things, certain people didn't wanna sign contracts, so I knew something was happening. So I just got ahead of the curve, if I'm being honest with you. I was like, 'I'm just gonna get out of here, I think this is done.'
Completely selfishly, I wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record. If I'm being completely honest with you, I was like, 'I'm gonna jump the gun here for the first time.' I'm a passive dude, but when it comes to my music and my business I'm serious about it and I'm competitive, so I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing."
In 2017 Harry discussed the hiatus in Rolling Stone:
It was in a London studio in late 2014 that Styles first brought up the idea of One Direction taking a break. “I didn’t want to exhaust our fan base,” he explains. “If you’re shortsighted, you can think, ‘Let’s just keep touring,’ but we all thought too much of the group than to let that happen. You realize you’re exhausted and you don’t want to drain people’s belief in you.”
After much discussion, the band mutually agreed to a hiatus, which was announced in August 2015 (Zayn Malik had abruptly left One D several months earlier).
Full article here
So, it’s really clear to me that yes, Harry wanted a solo career at that point, but he also could see the writing on the wall for the band.
They would need to sign another contract with Syco in 2015, probably for yet another three albums. Not only were their tours not selling out anymore, but their albums and singles weren’t doing as well as they once did, and there was no way they would survive another three tours and another three albums in another three years. It would have been madness to keep going at that pace.
And if Zayn was aware of it (as evidenced by his comment about certain people not wanting to sign contracts etc) they all were aware of it (unless the other three were blind to what was happening right in front of their faces). This idea that Harry ambushed them suddenly and that Louis, in particular, had no idea it was coming, is complete nonsense.
I think there were a lot of things going on, most of which we have no idea about, and they all needed a break. But there were probably a lot of things said and done that hurt people and it took a long time for them to be mature enough to talk about it all.
I don’t blame Zayn (or Harry) for breaking up the band. It was clearly time. I’m just sad that it ended in a way that was so emotionally difficult for them. But it does seem that Louis and Zayn have begun to mend their relationship. And yeah, I wish Liam was here to witness it.

A DAY FOR LOVE
Avery Grambs/Jameson Hawthorne - 2k
Alright!!! This is my sad, sad attempt at fluff, and I also haven't written since like June, so I've had about half a year to lose my writing skills to the mess that is social media. This fic happens between The Hawthorne Legacy and the Final Gambit. When we first see our OTP, they've just told the world that they're dating, and they're preparing for a charity gala. (anyone can read- I rated this General Audiences on Ao3) have fun!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/308aa23bf0eee515266c7ac52aa7408e/35d431f7657ac9f9-d9/s540x810/c8a8b70c0de6348ac6c0a811f66189a634f226ac.jpg)
T-MINUS FOUR HOURS (BEFORE THE GALA)
“You’re nervous.” The statement came from Jameson, who saw right through her rapid finger-tapping as more than just an outlet for boredom.
Out of all of the things Avery needed to do that day, filling out forms seemed like the least stressful- and yet, it didn’t seem to curb her anxiety.
She looked up from her desk, and watched Jameson lean his back against the doorframe, putting her in the center of his field of vision.
“Of course I’m nervous! The Hawthorne Foundation Gala is today, and for some reason I’m doing taxes-“
“-and for your pain and suffering, you deserve at least a year’s worth of chocolate donuts!” Xander burst into the room, bearing said chocolate donuts and nearly knocking over Jameson. He tossed his brother a donut before taking a better look at Avery. “I fear you may require a stronger source of sugar with the amount of stress coming from you.” he placed the donuts on her desk.
When Avery didn’t take a donut, he raised an eyebrow. “Does this have nothing to do with taxes and everything to do with an upcoming press release involving the two of you?”
Avery looked at him, seeming close to panic, and both of Xander’s eyebrows went up. “I will take that as a yes, leave this room, and strongly recommend you lovebirds speak to each other.”
Jameson left the door and stood against her desk, facing away. “Do you regret this, Heiress?”
Avery stood and braced herself on the desk. “Of course not. You know that, I know that, but does everyone else know?”
Jameson looked at her. “We’re doing this so that everyone knows. I don’t know if they’ll believe us, but they’ll be informed.”
Avery turned around, and leaned against Jameson. “They’re never going to believe or accept it. This community is weird, Jameson. They hate me enough as is, they’re never going to accept us together.”
Jameson raised an amused eyebrow. “Is that what you think?”
“What?”
“Look, you gave Alisa the picture and the caption yesterday. She posted it about two minutes ago-“
“-when the donuts came?” Avery’s shock was mixed with anger and relief and it caused Jameson to give her a small smirk.
“-yes, when the donuts came. I think you’re prepared for the worst, Heiress, but maybe not as prepared for the reception we’re truly receiving.” He handed her her phone.
Avery rapidly opened up Instagram and found her phone filled with notifications. She checked her latest post and found a picture of herself and Jameson covered in paint, from the day the two had built and painted her desk. In the photo, she gave Jameson a kiss on the cheek and it was captioned ‘first love ❤️❤️’.
It had over a million likes.
“Wait, a million?” Jameson leaned over her shoulder to look at her phone. It felt oddly domestic and she embraced the feeling. “Alisa said it had 10,000. It’s been less than five minutes, how is the app still running?”
Avery shrugged, a smile finding its way onto her lips. She opened up the comment section.

Jameson stopped her from scrolling further. "Look, the reception isn't all going to be puppies and chocolate donuts. But I think you're doing pretty good if Instagram thinks it’s not propaganda.”
"Jameson, that was five people out of-" she checked the phone again. "nine thousand comments."
Jameson shrugged. "I highly doubt they're the only five positive ones, Heiress, you would've had a harder time finding it otherwise."
Alisa, who Avery hadn't seen since that morning, walked into the room holding a large garment bag, followed by a makeup artist. "Congratulations, Avery. That's one of the most positively recieved posts I've ever seen on your account."
Jameson raised an eyebrow at Avery, giving her a look that said I told you so, and Avery let go of a breath she didn't even know she had been holding. "You're not joking?"
"Have you ever known Alisa to joke?" Alisa glared at Jameson, who punctuated the statement with a smirk.
Alisa turned to Avery. "About 95% of the general public reacted well, and out of that 5% that didn't, most were teenage girls."
Avery sighed. "As expected."
With the problem mostly settled, Alisa clapped her hands. "Okay, then, onto the rest of our duties. Avery, you have a gala in about four hours. Jameson, get out."
Jameson opened his mouth to protest and then decided against it, for he closed his mouth and dropped a kiss on the top of Avery's head before leaving.
Avery turned to Alisa. "You didn't have to kick him out."
Alisa closed the door behind Jameson, before ushering Avery to the bathroom. "Once you figure out how to get your makeup on while holding a conversation with him, he'll be allowed to stay. We need you both there on time, and you take significantly longer to get ready than he does."

T-MINUS ONE HOUR (Before the gala)
Jameson wasn’t exactly one to panic, but neither was Avery. He began tapping his foot and took a deep breath in an attempt to calm down.
Alisa had left him a selection of four ties and matching pocket squares, and Jameson assumed he was supposed to wear them with a tuxedo. He pulled out the garment bag containing the black one, and began slowly buttoning his shirt.
The sounds of Hakuna Matata filled the room while he tucked his shirt in, and Jameson sighed before picking up his phone. Xander had set his ringtone over two weeks ago; Jameson hadn't gotten around to hacking it yet.
"How are ya doin', Jamie?"
"You live three doors down, why don't you tell me?" he hung up the call.
Not two seconds later, Nash strolled into his room, wearing flannel over jeans and a band t-shirt.
"You look like a waiter. Didn’t Grayson ever teach you to dress yourself?” he took a look toward the rest of the clothing Jameson had set out to wear.
Jameson ran a hand through his hair. “I look the same. I wore this last week.”
“And then someone asked you for champagne. And you socked them in the face.”
He then proceeded to walk into Jameson's closet -"There’s nothing wrong with what I'm wearing!" "People are gonna ask you for more caviar; Grayson told me to not let you leave the house like that."- and after rummaging for two minutes, found a waistcoat that he didn't even know existed. It was the exact color of the tie Jameson wanted to pick, but Nash procured a black tie and pocket square.
"I think this is the same color as her dress, but honestly, it's gonna be dark, who's gonna see?" Nash held up the waistcoat, as if the nonexistant light would help him see better.
Jameson took it from him. "Have I ever worn this?"
"Maybe. You were also drinking a lot, so I doubt you or the news remembers." Nash sniffed the cloth. "You would never even know. It doesn't even smell like bourbon."
Jameson raised an unimpressed eyebrow as he began to put his tie on.. “Don’t tell me you’re being serious.”
Nash crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. “I couldn’t tell you whether it was true or not, Jamie, you wouldn’t believe me no matter what I said.”
Jameson buttoned up his waistcoat. “A wise man takes all truths with a grain of salt.”
“Bullshit.” Nash drew out the first syllable.
Jameson gave his brother a smirk. “Don’t you know it.” He grabbed the suit jacket and left.

1.5 HOURS IN
“Oh hello dear!” The sound of posh over-confidence crept up behind Avery, who quickly turned.
“Mrs. Anderson!” The woman was one of the slightly pushy heads of a charity created to support budding culinary minds. While incredibly specific, the charity had sent over a thousand students to culinary school, who went on to open restaurants that were all doing pretty well. Avery didn’t mind the woman; she was a lot nicer than most of the attendees, and used her reach to benefit the people who needed it. “How are you, ma’am?”
“I’m doing great, darling, but we need to talk about that dress. You look stunning!”
Avery was draped in dark red silk, covering one arm, and hugging her body until it hit her hips, where it flowed in waves, just shy of reaching the ground. The asymmetrical neckline and bottom of the skirt were covered in minimal silver embroidery-visible when the light hit just so. Alisa had shoved her in a pair of black stilettos, and curled her hair, painting her lips with the same red as her dress. A silver choker was clasped around her throat, matching her earrings and the bracelets on her left hand.
She thanked the woman, handing her a glass of champagne, and asked, “Have you heard about the charity we’re sponsoring today?”
Avery and the woman chatted for a couple of minutes as Avery convinced her to donate thousands of dollars out of pocket.
“Cancer truly is a scary thing.” Mrs. Anderson smiled softly. “I lost my husband to lung cancer. I doubt the majority of these people consider the research worth funding.”
“They think they’re untouchable.” Avery said.
“Precisely, my dear.” The woman grabbed another glass of champagne before looking behind Avery. “Oh, I must add, you and Jameson Hawthorne are a beautiful couple.”
Avery felt her cheeks heat and she looked down, but Mrs. Anderson hadn’t finished. “The amount of love you two have for each other is simply incredible. Just being in the same room as you two makes me feel like an outsider; your bond is so sweet.”
Avery paused. Same room? She turned and saw an incredibly familiar face.
Jameson Hawthorne had finally showed up. He wore a dark grey suit-so dark it was nearly black, with a waistcoat the color of wine and silver chains. His tie matched his suit jacket and his hair was artfully arranged, neat with enough personality such that he still looked like himself.
Mrs. Anderson gave Avery a soft smile. “You two look at each other like a man seeing the stars for the first time in years. If this isn’t true love, I don’t know what is!”
Avery’s lips parted. “Really?”
“Oh trust me darling, you and Jameson are something that happens once in a lifetime.” The woman winked and walked away, exchanging greetings with Jameson, who was headed Avery’s way.
She motioned towards the side of the room, and he showed up a minute later with two wineglasses.
She leaned on a pillar and he stood her to her. “You look beautiful, Heiress.” Jameson handed her the wineglass as he said the statement.
Avery smiled. “And yet, you still upstage me by millions. How has this gala gone so far?”
Jameson grimaced and drained the wineglass like a shot. “All people want to talk about is the fact that I’m ‘off the market and it’s such a shame and won’t I please put in a good word for Grayson’ - if I hear another woman tell me any of that, I’m going through the old man’s whiskey stash.”
Avery suppressed a smile and switched their glasses. She doubted she would drink the wine, and Jameson seemed like he needed it more than she did. Jameson wasn’t usually this open, and she wondered if the wine wasn’t his first drink of the night. “You seem like you’ve had fun.”
Jameson shot her a smirk. “And you should be prepared for more, Heiress,” he clinked his glass against hers, “because I believe the slow dances just started.”
For the few hours, Jameson and Avery alternated between spinning around the dance floor and resting at the bar. Their routine was occasionally interrupted by a speech, a person or both, but by the end of the night, they had raised over a million dollars to charity. The venue closed, but they stayed for an additional thirty minutes to supervise cleanup.
It took about forty minutes to get back to Hawthorne House and once they made it to Avery’s room, she tossed her heels into her closet and sat on the nearest chair.
Avery sighed. “I am never doing this again.” She stood up and began removing her jewelry, shedding her media persona for the sake of comfort.
Jameson unzipped her dress. “I highly doubt that.”
Avery shot him a look and she had to stifle a laugh when he mirrored it.
Once they were both changed and under the covers, Avery turned to Jameson and propped her head on a hand. “Do you know what day it is?”
Jameson’s eyes glittered and Avery knew he knew the answer. “The fourteenth?”
Avery rolled her eyes. “Valentine’s Day.”
Jameson smirked. “An astute observation, Heiress. And while one AM is a perfectly reasonable time to exchange gifts and other things, I don’t think you want to leave this bed right now.”
Avery nodded. “Definitely not.”
“Then Happy Valentine’s Day, Heiress, and I’ll see you when we inevitably wake up in six hours.”
Avery laughed and pulled him in for a kiss. When they broke apart, she whispered, “Happy Valentine’s Day, Jameson.”
And if she woke up the next day with several news articles focusing on the gala (or rather its hosts), well, she was going to ignore it all and spend the entire day with her amazing boyfriend.
fin.

I finished two more chapters of the Real Age editing!! We euh...
Don't talk about how one chapter went from 3600 to 4000... and one went from 3500 to... euh... 7300...
INSTEAD!
Have a sneakpeak!! Of the rewrite! :D
This is from the drabble: Parentalbond Dust.
*-----------------*
Dust watches as some dude bro guy walks through the forest, shouting about how he isn’t scared and to come get him. That he can defeat that creep with his tricks.
“… Why?”
Dust almost didn’t hear the question. Nightmare spoke quietly and just barely above a whisper. When Dust glances at him Nightmare is only just barely looking at him from the corner of his own wide sockets, eye lights big but shaking a tiny bit.
Anxiety? Fear? That are usually things that cause that kind of reaction from the magic that makes up their eyes. People aren’t joking when they say the eyes are the windows to the soul. For most monsters it is very much fact as magic affects their eyes and that comes from the soul.
Dust makes sure to break eye contact by turning towards the phone. He paused the movie as soon as he realised a question had been asked. He turns back slightly towards Nightmare and sees he is a bit more, not relaxed but calm. Mh. Doesn’t like the focus on him? Dust does remember that even as adult Nightmare much preferred to work from the shadows or the backlines.
Dust shrugs “Why the guy is screaming and making himself an obvious target? I don’t know exactly, it is either bad writing or a show that this guy is too confident in himself or just too stupid to realise what will happen to him.”
Nightmare frowns as he looks away “No. I mean… Why… this?”
Dust frowns. He isn’t exactly sure what about the situation he is asking about. He glances at his phone “I mean. I was bored. I figured a movie and some food would be nice…” as a distraction. As a way to pass time. To make sure that Nightmare has energy and food in him. It just… made sense.
Nightmare looks more frustrated for a moment. Glaring at his hands which formed into fists. Shoulders tense as he obviously searches for the right words.
Dust thinks it is very strange. He is so used to Nightmare being well spoken and always aware of what he feels and in turn wants. Nightmare now… just isn’t like this. He is struggling to put his thoughts into words. He is more expressive and the emotions shift easier from one to the other. There is less control, less refined skills.
He is acting like a child would.
…
He is a child… and struggling with the problems and limits that brings him.
Dust can almost feel the shift that follows that thought.
It happened in a second as Nightmare sighs and just looks down as he is mostly lax “Okay.”.
Dust frowns. That is wrong. That isn’t Nightmare accepting something. No, that is the sound of someone who resigns himself to something. Nightmare doesn’t do that. Nightmare keeps asking, Nightmare keeps looking. He wants to know everything and more importantly understand everything. After all of them told their stories he didn’t just accept those as fact. He would keep asking. Asking about details about their thoughts. Everything.
Dust frowns as he remembers the anxiety of before. If he keeps Nightmare’s past in his mind it makes sense. It isn’t like he would be used to having adults listen to him, and when they did Nightmare was an adult. Maybe he needs to prod himself instead?
Dust is so bad at this. Killer should have stayed here, he is much better at this whole conversation thing. Still Dust mutters his question “No. What why?” is that enough? Does that explain what he wants?
Nightmare tugs on his own phalanges. Tugging on the small bones and Dust can hear a soft creaking sound coming from it. Dust is already reaching towards those hands and Nightmare flinches at it.
Neither of them move as Nightmare looks much more panicked as his breathing picked up.
He is… terrified… He is actually terrified.
How… how does he fix this?
A loud laughter “Fix this?! You can’t fix this! Nothing you can do can fix this! These are the consequences of your actions dear brother. You forced a traumatised child to experience more trauma, more abandonment and then took his choices from him. Forcing him to remain by those who clearly don’t care. There is no fixing this. And you deserve to be aware of this.”
No. No he… He can… fix this? Maybe Horror can? Horror is a good brother. Horror could explain and reassure him… Killer knows Nightmare better than any of them. Killer could maybe say something to connect with him. Or Cross!! Cross is trustworthy and a true protector. Maybe Cross can make him feel save.
Dust… Dust can’t do that. Any of it.
Nightmare is still shaking as he stares at him. Frozen. He always froze when he encountered something he didn’t know the answer to. They thought it was to think… Was it to think?
Dust realises he still has his hand out. With some difficulty he slowly pulls it back. Nightmare watches the hand silently. Nothing moves aside from his eye lights, which are only looking at the hand. Dust manages to bring his hand back to the phone and holds unto it, afterwards he just waits.
*----------*
It was a large sneak peak!! :D

We Are Robins meeting to Signal apprehending Danny ; requested by @zylev-blog!
“Hey, Danny. How are you feeling?”
Danny gives Duke a tired smile, his head falling back against the wall. He’s sitting up today, which is good. It’s definitely an improvement from the many days Danny was unable to do much but lie down and grit his teeth through the pain as Duke checked on the gunshot wound. It’s a good thing Danny’s a meta with a healing factor, or nothing Duke could have done would have saved him.
As it is, the wound was severe enough to keep Danny vulnerable and unable to move on his own without making it worse. Though Duke has looked, he hasn’t had any luck in finding whoever did this to Danny. He hasn’t brought it up to the rest of the We Are Robin gang, but only because Danny only let him help if he kept it between the two of them.
What’s another secret? If it lets him stay close to Danny and make sure he’s healing well, then he’ll keep quiet and carry on the search by himself. He’s got plenty of practice in doing things on his own.
“Busy out there?” Danny asks as Duke sits down next to him, dropping his backpack onto the ground.
“Yeah, it’s tough with the cops after us, but someone needs to help Gotham and with Batman gone…”
A pained expression crossed Danny’s face. Eyeing him carefully, Duke opened his backpack and pulled out a few protein bars and sports drinks for him. Once Danny takes them and began eating one, Duke takes out the first aid kit, always kept at the bottom of the backpack, and sets it in front of Danny.
The most he can do is offer supplies and company at this stage of Danny’s healing. He gets twitchy and tense when Duke tries to tend to his wound, and seems to have plenty of practice in patching himself up.
He didn’t answer when Duke commented on it once, so Duke let the matter drop.
Metas may have legal protection, but that doesn’t stop people from targeting them. Duke has no intention of pushing Danny into remembering unpleasant things while he’s already wounded, hiding out in the upper corner of an abandoned warehouse taken over by a group of homeless people. Most aren’t inside during the day, choosing instead to be out with the rest of the city, which leaves them alone.
Duke keeps an eye on the ground floor of the warehouse, making sure no one comes in while Danny tends to his wound. When he peeks back, he can see that it’s much smaller than it was the night Duke found him, crawling down an alley with one hand clutching his side, tears slipping down his face. There had been so much blood that Duke was sure he had just stumbled upon someone dying and froze, horrified.
And then a shout down the road prompted him to move, hauling Danny up and helping him into the warehouse to hide.
For a normal person, if it didn’t kill them, the wound would still be raw and bleeding, larger than any gunshot wound he’s seen before. But Danny’s wound is closing up quickly, no longer bleeding, the edges a healing pink.
It doesn’t look like it’s going to scar, either.
“Think it’ll be all healed up by the end of the week?”
Danny glances up, then continues covering it with new bandage, large enough to cover the entire wound. “Hopefully,” he says. “Then I’ll be out of your hair and can figure out a way to get home.”
“Your folks gonna look out for you?”
“Probably. I’m not planning on telling them, though, since they’ll get way too overprotective. The only reason they’re not tearing Gotham apart looking for me is because I came here with my godfather and he told them we’d be gone for two weeks. Can’t believe he tried to kill me on day one…”
“Your godfather tried to kill you?”
“Yeah. Not personally, or anything, but he definitely hired the guy who shot me. Though he also yelled at him for shooting me? Not sure what that’s about, but I never trusted the guy and he didn’t try to help me afterwards when I ran away, so. You know.”
Duke wants to have a conversation with Danny’s godfather. Maybe bring the other Robins along to make sure the message sinks in: Don’t touch Danny.
But Danny, acting so casual about his godfather trying to kill him, would be unhappy about it, and Duke would really rather be able to take care of him than be shut out for trying to take control of the situation.
“Shit, man, that sucks,” he offers, instead of prying for details so he can hunt down his godfather. “You want a hug or something? I can’t really do much else, but if it can make you feel better about all this…”
Danny brightens and shoves the first aid kit away, his shirt (one of Duke’s old ones he offered up to replace the bloodstained one) falling to cover the bandage. “Please. I would love a hug, dude, I don’t remember the last time I felt so lonely.”
Carefully, Duke wraps his arms around Danny, leaning back so Danny could relax fully and not worry about holding himself up. Danny sighs into the hug, going fully limp as he drops his forehead onto Duke’s shoulder.
“Thanks for this. And everything,” Danny says some time later. He doesn’t move to pull away, so Duke stays as he is, watching the weak sunlight slowly move across the warehouse as it spills in from dirty windows.
“You don’t need to thank me. I mean, I’m a Robin.” He brings up a hand to tap a finger against the R embroidered into his jacket. “It’s what we’re here for.”
.
.
.
It’s been years since he saw Danny. After he was fully healed, Duke helped him get to city limits, watching as he boarded a bus and disappeared down the road, leaving his life just as suddenly as he entered it.
After spending so much time together, quiet hours of stillness just looking out for each other, his life feels emptier without Danny in it. He knew it wouldn’t last, that Danny would go home eventually, but it didn’t make the parting any easier.
Even now, as Signal, taking a break from going on missions with the Outsiders to spend some time with the Bats, his thoughts drift towards Danny, wondering if he’s alright. In his darker moments, he wonders if Danny’s godfather has tried to kill him again, if he’s succeeded. In calmer, happier moments, he remembers Danny’s quiet stories about his family, his town, all his dreams and hopes for the future, remembers the easy company and how Danny didn’t look at him with pity when talked about his parents, just quiet and contemplative.
Sometimes, he can’t resist the urge to look him up, but there are so many Danny’s out there that he doesn’t know where to start. He never got Danny’s last name or learned when he came from.
It’s not like he can just ask the Bats for help finding a guy he knew for two weeks before he ever joined them. They’re all busy with their own missions, and definitely don’t have time for Duke’s reminiscing.
“Just caught sight of the truck entering city limits,” Oracle says in his ear. “It’s heading towards the Coventry.”
“On it. Any movement from the mobs?”
“None yet. I expect this to change soon. Red Hood and Black Bat are patrolling nearby if you need backup.”
“Got it. Signal out.”
His comline shuts with a little click, and then he’s grappling over the roof tops, keeping an eye on the roads in search of the truck. He doesn’t have time to think of Danny anymore, not when a shipment of new, experimental weapons is passing through Gotham. Spoiler had heard a few whispers of it and Red Robin helped find more solid details; the mobs are all looking to take the shipment for themselves in an attempt to get the upper hand in the nonstop fight for control of Gotham’s streets.
It’s passing through during the day, visible and a good move to keep from being ambushed at night, but it’s not enough to stop mobs hoping to take out their competition with new weapons. Duke enters the Coventry just as his comline beeps once and Oracle begins giving him specific directions, along with a brief description of what the truck looks like.
Apparently, the weapons are being moved in a U-Haul rental truck. That is… certainly a Choice™ to make for moving weapons around the country.
He follows it from the rooftops, but nothing happens. The truck passes through the Coventry without incident and takes a turn that keeps it away from Crime Alley and the Bowery. It gets to the middle of East End then pulls to a stop in the parking lot of a diner.
Two people get out and stretch, then head in to get something to eat.
It would be the perfect time for someone to break in. Duke pulls the light over himself, manipulating it to make him disappear from sight as he looks down from the edge of the rooftop, tense and prepared for anything.
He almost doesn’t see it at first. It’s just a flicker, a flash of color, a shift in the shadows across the street. But he does see it, even if he can’t find it again, and drops down from the roof, creeping towards the truck.
Duke waits, holding his breath, off to the side of the parking lot.
A minute passes. And then a figure materializes out of thin air, floating right behind the truck. All Duke can see is white hair and a black body suit; they’re either a meta or an alien, but either way, Duke is ready to take them down.
The figure lifts their hands and a bolt of neon green energy hits the truck, melting the back and leaving a large hole that gives them direct access to the weapons. And then they shoot again, destroying the weapons.
“Phantom!” someone shouts, and the truck driver comes tearing out of the restaurant, a white gun in his hand. His companion follows, her gun also out, and the begin shooting.
Phantom dodges the blasts, then vanishes from sight. He reappears behind them a moment later, tackling back of them into the side of the truck.
“No you don’t!” Duke say, rushing forward as he pulls at the shadows around him then sends them racing towards Phantom, restraining them. The driver and his companion collapse onto the ground, groaning weakly, and Duke grits his teeth. “O, send someone to look after the people moving the weapons. Apprehending an attacker now.”
He doesn’t wait to hear a response, tightening the shadow’s grip on Phantom, who struggles fiercely.
“We can do this the hard way, or the easy way,” he says, pulling Phantom closer to him.
Phantom doesn’t answer. They just scream, the force of it making Duke fall back. His shadows dissipate, and Phantom flies up.
“Get back here!”
Duke gives chase, dropping in and out of shadows, throwing some at Phantom in the hopes of catching him again. But Phantom is fast and it takes all he has to keep up as they cross Gotham.
He thought Phantom was flying around blindly, but the way they move across the roofs and then through the streets are too confident, too focused to be anything other than someone with a destination in mind. But where? Where could they be going? If they’ve been in Gotham, then Duke would have heard of them.
A flying, powerful meta with a multitude of powers? Yeah, he would have known about them.
Phantom flies through a wall and Duke curses, going onto the roof and looking around, waiting to see them fly out. But they don’t and Duke finds a broken skylight to drop in from, landing on the support beams of the warehouse, well above the ground.
He knows the warehouse, he realizes suddenly. It’s the warehouse Danny hid in while he was healing. Duke hasn’t been back in years.
“Just listen to me, please,” a voice says behind him, and Duke tense, spinning around to face Phantom, floating just out of reaching distance. “Those weapons are dangerous. No one should have them, it’s why I had to destroy them. Please, you can’t let them get those weapons out.”
Duke stares. Something about Phantom is familiar. The shape of his face, maybe. His voice. Maybe it’s just because he’s in the warehouse again, with someone pleading for his help.
Maybe it’s all in his mind.
“Danny?”
Phantom flinches, floating back a few inches. “What— How—”
“What happened? Is it your godfather again?”
“My— Duke? Is that you?!”
He definitely shouldn’t be doing this, but Danny’s here. Danny’s here in front of him, needing help, and he doesn’t need the Signal. He needs Duke.
He pulls off his helmet and lifts his bare face to Danny.
“Oh,” Danny breathes. “Well. I guess I should have known you’d be a hero. Can you help me one last time?”
“Yeah, of course Danny. Tell me what you need.”
“Those weapons, they were first made to kill me and others like me. It’s a whole thing I don’t have time to explain. But they’ve been changed to affect humans, all types of people, as well. I can survive a few hits from those weapons, but for most people, it would kill them instantly. I need to destroy all of them and stop any further production before the rest of the world gets a hold of them.”
“That’s why you—”
“They have to be destroyed,” Danny says. “And the people making and selling them need to be stopped. I can’t do it on my own. I’ve tried, but…”
“I’ll help,” Duke says, “I’ll help. This is a big enough problem to bring the Outsiders into it. Or the Bats, but they like to stay in Gotham.”
Danny floats closer, looking painfully relieved. “Really? They’ll be able to put an end to this?”
Duke reaches for him. “Yeah. they can do it. I’ll make sure of it.”
Danny’s feet land on the support beam as his hand meets Duke’s. They balance above the rest of the warehouse, drinking in the sight of each other. Duke rubs his thumb over Danny’s knuckles in soothing circles and watches as the tension begins to fall away from Danny’s shoulders.
“Duke,” he whispers, “I’ve missed you—”
The door below is kicked open, and a gunshot rings out.
Moving on instinct, Duke tackles Danny, wrapping him up in his arms as they fall off the support beam. They hit the ground hard, rolling a bit, and Duke tucks Danny into his chest, bodily protecting him.
“Narrows!”
The Red Hood stands over him, menacing, a gun pointed at him.
“Hood?” He loosens his grip on Danny. “What the hell was that for?”
“Thought you needed back up. You chased after our guy and lost your helmet, I think I’m right to be a little worried about you. So, who’s this?” There’s a hard edge to his voice, and Duke realizes with a sinking heart that all anyone else sees is an aggressor, a meta who attacked a truck full of weapons, attacked two people, and had to be chased down by the Signal. Jason’s seeing a threat and acting accordingly, putting Duke’s safety first.
And with his helmet off, identity clear, Danny’s even more dangerous now that he has this knowledge.
“I’m sorry,” Danny whispers to Duke. He doesn’t have time to ask for what? before Danny’s shooting another beam of green energy at Jason then taking off, flying through the roof and out of sight.
“Shit,” Jason mutters, straightening up from where he ducked to avoid being hit, then puts his gun away and kneels next to Duke. “You alright? Why’d you let him go? I thought you had him.”
“I’m fine. He’s not… He wasn’t going to hurt me. He just needed help.”
“Sure. And what are you not telling me?”
“I knew him. He’s a good person, but he’s been in danger for a long time. This was him trying to protect others from what he went through.”
Jason takes off the helmet and stares at him. Then he sighs and reaches a hand down to help Duke to his feet. “Alright,” he says, “Let’s head back to the truck. You have until then to convince me that they’re the problem, and if they are, then I’ll help you blow up more of their weapons.” He claps a hand on Duke’s shoulder, then pulls his helmet back on. “Grab your helmet. We’re wasting daylight, Narrows.”
There’s nothing else he can do, no way to search for Danny when there are other leads to chase, so Duke grapples up to the catwalk where his helmet landed and grabs it.
Just before he puts it on, he sees a flicker of white just outside the window he’s facing. He ducks his head to hide a smile. It’s almost like he’s stepped back in time; Danny’s here in Gotham, needing help and asking for it in the warehouse.
And though so much has changed in those years, there’s still one thing that Duke will ensure never changes: he’s Danny’s hero. Above Robin, or Signal, or anything else, Duke is Danny’s hero.
This time, he has the power to actually help Danny. He’s going to make sure no one ever hurts Danny again.
“Let’s go,” he says, jumping back down to Jason, helmet on. “I’ll tell you everything you need to know.”

Voice actors are NOT the same as actors.
It takes a specific kind of skill-set and training to be able to warp and meld the voice. It takes a certain kind of talent and dedication to hone that talent into the ability to meld the voice and invoke emotion with one's voice alone. Actors are used to using their voice secondarily to their body language and their facial expressions. It's all mirrored back on camera. They do have nuance. But it's a different kind of nuance and a different kind of training to produce that nuance.
Voice actors might get their likeness transposed on their character's design, and maybe their mannerisms might seep into the character's animation. But when it's all said and done: their presence is in their voice. They are bringing a character to life, showing that emotion in their voice, trying to keep a specific accent, drawl, pitch, tone in that voice and keep it consistent for their recording sessions.
The voice actor is like a classically trained musician who can play first chair in a competitive, world-renown orchestra. The actor (who fills the voice actor's role) is like a moot who played violin in beginner and intermediate high school orchestra and thinks they can get into Juilliard with that 2-4 years of experience.
This doesn't mean that the HS orchestra moot can't play. They can even be really good at it. Maybe they won competitions and sat first chair. But they are not in the same league as the person who's been training their whole lives and lives and breathes to hone their craft using the instrument and all of the training they've ever acquired to perfect it. They are not meant for the same roles. They are not in the same caliber. You do not hire the HS equivalent when you want to play complex music in a competitive orchestra.
Actors are not the same as voice actors.
And furthermore, actors - especially big name actors - taking the roles of animated characters for big budget films or TV pilots makes no sense anyways when - at least in the case of TV pilots - there's not a point to hiring a big budget actors anyways. That money could be used elsewhere (like paying your animators), and the talent that is brought onto the screen for X character could then be hired on to voice said character no recasting required.
I wouldn't say voice acting as a profession is in danger exactly, but it's certainly being disrespected and overlooked for celebrity clout, and this has ALWAYS been an issue. Shoot, even Robin Williams knew that much - which is why he tried so hard not to be used as a marketing chess piece for Aladdin and got royally pissed off when it happened anyways. People shouldn't go to any movie (but especially not animated films) because "oh famous actor is in it". People should go because it's a good movie and the voice acting is good.
People who honest to god think that voice actors are replaceable because "oh well anyone can voice act" or "I like xyz celebrity so naturally it'll be good" ... Honestly I just wish you'd reassess your priorities because you're missing the point and are part of the problem.
Voice Actors ≠ Actors.
#(i am incredibly passionate about this)#(and seeing celebrity voice actors in what should be a voice actor's role completely burns my buns it doesn't matter WHO it is)#(hemsworth as optimus? someone tell me one good reason why they couldn't get a good v/a to replace mr. cullen properly for the future)#(ben shwartz as sonic? dude literally isn't even a good voice actor OR actor anyways-)#(- A N D jason griffith AND my boy roger craig smith are still RIGHT HERE)#(jason griffith IN PARTICULAR would have pulled back SO many sonic fans that went to watch the film anyways. if not /more/.)#(and on top of that he has the same tonality and energy they tried to force this moshmo to try and emulate anyways so GET THE REAL THING)#(chris pratt as mario? i can at least defend /him/ and say that barring his failure to do a NY accent consistently he wasn't terrible)#(but mario's new voice actor could've been used instead and people would've clearly appreciated that WAY more)#(vanessa hudgens as sunny starscout in mlp g5's pilot movie? literally why. they replace her and hitch's va in the show.)#(don't even get me started on the concept of hiring celebrity singers to do musical theatre roles or not letting musical theatre singers-)#(-dub the celebrity voice actors you just HAD to hire for your film bc you're so worried about not getting enough clout to get ppl in seats#(that you're putting it all in this (1) big name hire bc turns out that you have no faith in your writing ability much less-)#(-animation as a medium.)#(and no before anyone says anything : no this is not me saying that ALL celebrity voice castings are bad.)#(there are some that aren't that bad and others that are actually pretty good.)#(i especially appreciate it when actors are damn well aware they aren't voice actors and try to LEARN from voice coaches-)#(-and/or their va predecessors if applicable.)#(that does not change the fact that the celebrity shouldn't have been hired just because the film wanted to have bragging clout-)#(-oh look at this FAMOUS PERSON we were able to hire — yeah ok. sure wendy. i want to know if this film is quality or not.)#(and 9/10 times the SECOND there is money spent on a non voice actor to voice the main character especially)#(that usually means somewhere along the way animation IS going to get shafted. if not w the animators themselves then in the way of-)#(-the actual animation itself and ESPECIALLY the screenwriting because it's especially been so dogshit lately even before the strike.)#(a celebrity being hired to fill a voice actor's role is such an immediate red flag to me and it is VERY rare that i get to be proven wrong

can we fucking stop assigning “ableist” to characters for no fucking reason. jesus christ. not only is it extremely boring and cop-out storytelling to just make villains out of regular ass characters to create your conflict, it’s also fucking jarring and exhausting to have to be slapped with slurs and ableist microagressions towards a CHILD out of nowhere while reading an otherwise unrelated (and untagged for it!) fic. im not normally one to get this negative on main, but if im being honest? you guys are pissing me the fuck off
#taylor marisol tommy random other characters who have NEVER SAID SHIT IN THE SHOW? can you guys get your head out of your ass#even ana who said one kind of rough thing about ability. why is she suddenly an outright bigot in your fics#like. i feel fucking unwell#i get that you don’t like the love interests but jesus fucking christ get better material#it’s boring conflict. It’s a cop out. and it’s UPSETTING#i get that there are assholes on the show. But i know to expect bigotry from them.#but when im not braced for it bc the character has never been that in the show?? holy fuck dude. unnecessary and honestly? uncalled for!!#it’s annoying and bad writing <3 get better at conflict <3 also fuck you <3#sorry! do better!#iinryer talk#tbh this goes for other unfounded bigotry too but the one i keep seeing is ableism and im angry
