Though the idea of safety was something appealing enough that she’d extricated herself from the criminal world for it, she somehow still doubted she’d ever be comfortable enough to work a desk job. “Yeah, I’d have to agree with you,” she replied, nose scrunching slightly at the idea. “I don’t think I could sit still doing anything that boring for more than an hour at a time. Wouldn’t exactly go well.” Her expression grew more horrified at the next option for her hypothetical employment. “Never mind. I think I’d prefer the desk job.”
Simone raised an eyebrow at him, her tone almost challenging even though she knew he was teasing. “Oh, are we not past the photo shoot?” His thoughtful acquiescence of no singing contract made Simone roll her eyes. “Yes, of course. Modesty was also one of the things you were blessed with, clearly.” Looking pensive for a moment, Simone hummed thoughtfully before answering. “As much as I love Madonna, my home alone song would probably have to be something like… Billie Jean. Or Beat It. Some classic Michael Jackson never does me wrong.”
“Sorry,” she said, shrugging with a smile that implied that she wasn’t really sorry at all. “You win some, you lose some.” In the next few moments, there was almost a sort of shift in the air — that slight pause just before tension was broken. Simone’s eyes fluttered shut as he leaned in, half-tempted to say finally in the moment just before their lips met. For a second, the moment seemed to slow, giving her time to fully appreciate the fact that this was finally happening. She followed his lead and shifted closer, reaching up to thread her fingers through his hair as the kiss deepened.
“I could maybe picture you in an office like Tony Montana’s... or Don Corleone’s," he said, nodding towards the screen. Though somehow picturing Simone behind a mountain of cocaine didn’t really work for him either, hilariously concerning as it was. “But I think it’s better for everyone if you just stick to... whatever it is that you’re doing.” The sheer horror on her face made him laugh, and he shook his head, “Get with the times, these are the true criminals of our time. You might have to get used to it.”
He nodded, a bright grin lighting up his face, “I’m probably the most humble guy you’ll ever meet.” It was a joke, of course; August had been called many things in his lifetime, not all of them particularly flattering, but no one had ever accused him of modesty. The revelation of her home alone songs made him smile, “I can see that. I don’t know why, but I can.” At least he was picturing it in his mind already. “I personally have a thing for Elton John, which is probably as painful to witness as you’re imagining.”
Despite the mountain of evidence that told him that she was into him, August was still a little relieved when Simone welcomed the kiss. Ever since he dropped her off at her apartment, he’d regretted not bringing her home with him that night, and now he got to make up for that mistake. His free hand found its way to her thigh, slowly caressing her as their kiss grew deeper, at last relieving all the tension that had built between them. When he came up for air for a moment, he chuckled softly as he planted a few more kisses along her jaw towards her neck. “Why haven’t we been doing this the entire time?”

“What, you can’t see me as, like, an insurance agent or something?” she joked. He was probably right — considering the bumpy road she’d been headed down for nearly all of her life, it wasn’t exactly likely that she’d settle into doing something normal like being a waitress or even taking the time and money to go to school. It was simply hard to imagine. “I mean, clearly making Instagram posts a few times a day should be enough to qualify for a time slot on TV. A hundred thousand followers directly translates to more than enough of a viewer base, don’t you think?”
When he relented, Simone let out an exaggerated sigh of relief. She honestly didn’t think she’d mind all that much if August was involved, but she had to keep up the pretense. “That’s good enough for me.” Placated for the moment, she let her hands fall back to her lap with the remnants of an amused grin still present in the curve of her mouth. “Oh, God, no, we just got past the photo shoot,” she lamented, letting out a chuckle. “I can’t sing to save my life, so you can quit while you’re ahead with that one.”
“Oh. August, I wouldn’t do something as mundane as kill you personally. I’d put a hit out on you, obviously, so much easier,” she teased, shaking her head as if to chastise him.  She shifted with the change in position, moving slightly closer in her attempt to get comfortable. The effort was genuine, and if it happened to bring her closer to August in the meantime, then so be it. “If you keep me entertained in the first place, I won’t have to run off, you know,” she pointed out, eyebrows raised.
August chuckled at the idea of Simone at a boring desk job, “I’m sure you could sell anyone anything, but I suspect that you’d be bored out of your mind within the first day at the office.” Although he liked most aspects of his own job, even he got bored with the paperwork once in a while. He couldn’t imagine Simone being more attuned to menial work than he was. He grew up around the lawyers of Case File Land, after all, and she grew up around danger. “Nah, you’d have to settle for shilling hair vitamins to children on YouTube, I’m afraid. A fate worse than death, some would say.”
“You can keep thinking we’re past the photo shoot,” he teased her with a cheeky grin. It was not over yet, but at least he would generously spare her the horrendous fate of being signed up for American Idol. “No singing, alright. I can’t really sing either, so I get you. It’s like the one talent I wasn’t blessed with,” he joked, chuckling at himself. “You might catch me going around singing, though. It happens. What’s your home alone song?” He eyed her for a brief moment, “I don’t know why, but I’m picturing you as a Madonna singer.”
“I’m offended that you wouldn’t even get your hands dirty for me,” he said, letting out a huff for emphasis, though he quickly smiled as she settled in closer to him, clearly just as fine with the shifted position as he was. “I think I already beat Marlon Brando for your attention, so I’d say I’m doing okay,” he told her as he wrapped an arm around her back to hold her in place. August wasn’t sure why it had taken them forever to act on their obvious tension, but if this wasn’t the right time to do it, then it wasn’t going to happen at all. Finally, he leaned in, instinctively pulling her body closer to his to his as their lips met for the first time in a kiss that had clearly been highly anticipated, at least from his side of things.

‘‘Ah, well this seems like a great place to come then and suits your style.’‘ Noah nodded, looking around the place in admiration for the effort bestowed on the place. Technically it was disgusting- quite dark and horrible actually but that was the old style Noah fantasied of. Simply following August’s lead, Noah dropped himself on the same sofa, placing his hand on the arm to appreciate the old fabrics. ‘’I’ve never dealt with prescriptions like these before but I am down for it.’’ Noah laughed a little, in awe still, reading the menu before deciding. ‘’Ooh, Devil May Care sounds exciting and I love tequila.’’ It was safe to say that Noah was going to be mixing a lot of different types of alcohol tonight, already mentally noting what he was going to order next.
Tumblr media
“Thanks, I’ve never been more honored to blend in,” he said with a chuckle, glad that Noah liked the place. August prided himself on knowing the cool places, especially the ones that were hard to come by. Even better than knowing all the best bars in town was everyone else knowing that he was the expert on this. “Devil May Care,” he repeated before heading off to get their prescriptions, smirking slightly at the highly appropriate choice. This place was made for Noah. He returned shortly after, placing Noah’s glass in front of him and swirling his own drink around as he sat down at the other end of their couch. “I always get this Dead Poet to start... seems suitably pretentious, you know?” he grinned as he took a sip of his so-called painkiller, that did indeed remove all pain but replace it with bitterness. “I brought a real date here once, but she saw the menu and thought I was not so subtly trying to drug her,” he told his new friend with a shrug, “Seemed a bit Wile E. Coyote to me, but yeah.”

What gets you up in the morning?
I was always an early bird, so it’s never really been much of an issue... unless I’m very hungover, in which case I get up to get some kind of pain relief.

For this week, we’ve been looking beyond the Big Apple and found some city prompts. Truth be told, they’re not particularly geographic, but they were cute.
Reblog this post if you want people to send you prompts. And remember – if you want to receive asks, make sure to send some to your fellow members to keep it fair. Question prompts can be found below the cut. Have fun, everyone!
We found this meme here.

“I have to say, that would be going way too far for the sake of the craft,” she said, looking amused by the thought. “If I had that kind of foresight when I was eighteen, I think my life plan wouldn’t exactly have been ‘become a criminal for the next decade to prepare for your inevitable acting career’. Or maybe it would’ve been. Who knows. It seems to have worked out for me.” She grinned at him, unable to resist letting out a laugh of her own. “You’re the one that told me to exploit you! I’m just trying to follow your suggestion.”
Simone raised her hands slightly in the universal don’t shoot gesture, doing her best to look as innocent as possible. “I don’t want you to do anything rash. Leave the camera where it is, and nobody has to get hurt,” she joked. Simone wasn’t an idiot — she knew she was attractive, but that didn’t mean she had any idea how to pose. She was entirely certain that any actual photoshoot, if such a thing ever occurred, would just end up being dozens of pictures of her looking vaguely confused about what to do with her hands. “I’ve already got you tryin’ to get me on TV and in magazines. What’s next, my record deal? Or is it the movie deal that comes first? I can’t keep track.”
Her eyebrows shot to her hairline, and she made a face to imply that it could be a bad time. “Well, if any of them prosecuted one Simone Cloutier in the past couple years, we might have an issue,” she replied, but her tone was lighthearted. Simone herself wouldn’t mind — in fact, she’d find it hilarious if that ended up being the case, which was wildly unlikely. She rolled her eyes at his bright tone, shaking her head. “I’m not really a three-hour movie person,” she echoed, not looking all that guilty about it, either. “Why, is that going to be a problem?” She glanced from him to the screen and back, her attentions clearly diverted from the movie already. It wasn’t her fault — August was distracting her.
August smiled as she pondered her role as an actress/criminal mastermind. “I somehow don’t think you would ever do something very conventional with your life,” he told her, taking notice of how confident he felt making that statement. Maybe he’d only known Simone for a very short amount of time, but he felt like he’d gotten to know her very well in that time. It was kind of weird, but he felt good about it. “Alright, fine,” he conceded, “I think I’m just allergic to reality show pitches. Even as a joke, they just hurt my soul. Sometimes I think social media has just fucked everything up. Everyone feels like they deserve to be broadcast.”
Her gesture made him chuckle, and he dropped back down, withdrawing the awful threat of an impromptu photo shoot. “Alright, I won’t put you through that... not now, anyway,” he said, grinning at her. Would he bring it up again sooner or later? Probably. He’d invited her over for many reasons, but a lot of them were directly related to how beautiful she was. “Record deals aren’t really my department... although, now that you mention it, I do happen to know a few people,” he teased her, still finding the concept pretty hilarious. Mostly because of her reactions to it all.
“Not a lot of prosecutors among them, so I think we’re good. You won’t have to murder my family, or me for being related to them,” he joked, though now he was curious if she did ever run into one of his lawyer relatives. It almost pained him to know that even if he asked, they wouldn’t be allowed to tell him. "Nope, no problem,” he responded to her question, leaning forward a bit to grab her calves and drape her (short) legs across his lap. “But I need to hold onto you so you won’t run off once you get bored.”

rafaelthynne·:
A soft grin slowly rose to Rafael’s lips, as August agreed to stay. He was interesting and powerful, of course, an important connection to make - but of course, mostly he was pleased because he loved… this. Charming people. Flirting with them. Crawling under their skin until they were his. And bigger the challenge, more he loved it. August, here, was the perfect candidate to be his next… What would be a word to describe it? Victim. He seemed resistant enough. “What are you having?” He shortly gestured at the liquor bottles in front of him. “I am no bartender, but I do know my drinks and sure can whip something up.” He leaned against the counter, and closer to him, at the same time.
He chuckled at August’s words. “Everyone is correct, I am the best,” he said nonchalantly - he wasn’t bragging, he was right. Rafael nodded lightly at his last words. “I am good at that. Whatever you want… I can make it happen,” his soft tone was almost a murmur, and very suggestive. He wouldn’t mind if August would take it as a sexual innuendo, but right now he was more implying towards the illegal things provided in his clubs.
Tumblr media
It would be hard not to notice that the other man leaned closer to him, and August sure did, although he didn’t want to show it. He turned his eyes back to the bottles, feeling safer away from Rafael’s gaze. “Honestly, just a G&T would be great right now - and I’m sure you can definitely manage that,” he said, almost tempted to jump behind the bar himself just to feel less awkward. He couldn’t decide if the guy was making him uncomfortable because he seemed to be flirting, because he was just overall intimidating, or both.
As weird as he found the interaction, August had to admit that Rafael kind of reminded him of himself. The superior attitude that was delivered matter-of-factly rather than in a bragging manner - that was usually his thing. He chuckled softly at the suggestion, “And what’s next, if I need someone gone, you’ll make them disappear?” The question was mostly joking, but it would not surprise him too much if Rafel was able to do that. “I’ll definitely make sure I don’t lose your phone number. Sounds like you’re Batman or something.”

“Well, I guess you’re right, actually. They’ve only let me go undercover a couple times, but it’s always been stuff I’ve done before, so it didn’t really feel like acting.” She paused, looking thoughtful for a moment. “Granted, I’m more used to being on the illegal side of things, but it’s generally the same. It’s not like I’m the one making the arrests, after all.” Though she didn’t get to do it often, going undercover was something that Simone enjoyed. It was a fun break from the regular day-to-day office work. “So when am I getting my own reality show, then?” she joked.
“Hmm, we’ll see about that.” Simone didn’t doubt his ability to follow through for a second — but she still couldn’t resist the urge to challenge him. “No, you know, I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard of a camera before,” she replied, shaking her head. “Are we still talking about my Instagram model career? Or is there some magazine somewhere that I don’t know about that’s just dying for pictures of a police consultant?”
Rolling her eyes, Simone took another sip of her drink as August occupied himself with replacing the award on the shelf. “I like shiny stuff. Sue me,” she shot back, then seemed to reconsider. “No, actually, don’t do that. You probably have some insane lawyer on retainer, and I’ve got priors. Bad combo.” A charmed look crossed over her face at his ‘confession’ of his fear, and she looked down momentarily in a bad attempt to hide it. “Oh, the horror,” she deadpanned, eyes following him as he sat down next to her. “I think you’re forgetting that you also have to put up with me for the next three hours.” As much as she genuinely did want to see the movie, she wasn’t exactly intending on watching the full three hours — at least, not tonight.
August still found her frankness fascinating. If he were in her shoes, he doubted that he’d be as open about it all. Though, of course, it did sound like she’d cut a good deal for herself and didn’t have to worry too much about ending up behind bars. Whatever she did, she had to have been good at it. “So you’re a method actor... but in reverse,” he joked, looking at her with far too much admiration considering everything he knew about her careers, current and former. At her question, he nudged her gently and rolled his eys. “Shut up,” he said, though he couldn’t help but laugh softly. “Maybe I’ll put you on TV someday. I’m sure it’d beat Mob Wives in the ratings, so I’ll consider it.”
He sat up a bit straighter, almost as a threat: “Don’t make me go grab my camera. I’ll stage a photo shoot right here.” He was almost tempted to do so - both to tease her and well, to get pictures of her. If anything, he could probably let her pose with the Emmy and convince her that way. “And well, both. Also, I’m sure plenty of magazines would be interested in that. It’s all about ‘real people’ now, but not like really real. A way too gorgeous police consultant is the exact kind of ‘real’ person people want to see.“
Simone’s reconsideration made him laugh, “Is this the time to tell you that practically half my family members are lawyers?” He took a sip of his wine, figuring he should keep up with her like a true gentleman, before relaxing back on the couch, a tiny bit closer than he’d sat before. “I’ll live, I think,” he told her with a bright smile, challenging her deadpan voice. This definitely wasn’t the worst, although he was sort of regretting inviting her over for a movie that he actually wanted to see. Movie dates were fine when they were just code for sex, but this was The Godfather. “Although I get the feeling that you’re not really a three-hour movie person and that you’ll be distracting me,” he said, already talking over Marlon Brando.
