i CANNOT try my hand at like an EE 1920s vibe, itll just end with me trying to fit the current dynamics into an older mafia setting, ITLL JUST BE THE SAME, FUCKING, THING. BUT SET IN A DIFFERENT TIME PERIOD, LITERALLY THE SAME STORY, sure there would be minor differences but still!!
#wizard.txt#can i stop having an obsession w/ the prohibition era and what it meant for the mafia Please#tbf the american prohibition era was kinda funny#NO ONE followed the ban on alcohol#but it did mean a great business opportunity for crime syndicates#sure organized crime has been around for such a long time#and is still around today#but the reason it really hit it off in the 1920's to 50's#is in part to the prohibition#there are other factors but#bootlegging was a popular way to Get Cash#and even once to prohibition ended in the 30's#they were still swingin

i live in venice (not exactly but close enough) and while we dont have many beaches here many people instead just go directly into the shallow parts of the laguna! its so shallow that its basically like a sort of beach in the middle of water? many ppl esp that live there take small boats and get to those parts (at least from what ive seen when i was passing by on a boat). im not sure about it being a thing historically but maybe machete and vasco could do that too instead of a normal beach?
.
#oh this is good this could be helpful#insider information#shallow parts of the lagoon#are we talking about sandbanks or something similar?#I'll have to look into it some more#maybe I should've specified that it doesn't have to be a proper beach#just some spot where you can access water that is shallow enough to walk in and has some level of privacy late in the evening#I know that historically people used to swim in the canals too but it's prohibited nowadays and I don't want to send the wrong message#answered#anonymous#I feel silly#yes these are the things I perhaps should've looked up before I planned a whole comic around the idea#I just wanted them to go for a little swim to highlight how close and comfortable around each other they've become TvT

Palo and Tigran standing casually in place to provide an outfit reference.
They are wearing the most typical day to day clothing for Galenii monks. This consists of three main parts:
-A simple, ankle-length sleeveless robe (white in initiate monks and black in the fully initiated). -A dark woolen cloak, which doubles as a blanket. This cloak is the foundational item of clothing throughout much of Imperial Wardin as a whole, and worn by all social classes. They tend to be cut shorter and highly decorative in the upper classes, serving only the practical purpose of shielding the arms from the sun. Poor laborers may wear only the cloak and a loincloth and nothing else. In the case of Galenii monks, it is standardized, simple, and dark blue-gray. -The sash. This is a very long scarf that is the primary visual signifier of a Galenii monk. Its open ends drape down the front side of the body and are tied at the chest. It is slung over the shoulders and hangs in a loop around the back. These sashes are dyed an expensive royal blue, indicating the significance and relative esteemed status of this religious order.
Additional elements:
-The sign of the horns: a small iron pin used to fasten the cloak. This is the symbol of the Lunar Face Of God (the specific aspect to which the Galenii are devoted, which is primarily associated with fertility and the cycles of sacrifice and rebirth). This is very common among monks but not standardized wear. Galenii priests wear the sign of the triple horns (though more commonly as an amulet).
-Ear piercings: Galenii monks and priests wear thick earrings of dark meteoric iron and stretch their earlobes. One is added to each ear for each year of the initiatory process. Palo is a year in, and Tigran is fully initiated and has five bands per ear. Body modification is exceptionally rare in Imperial Wardi culture, largely in relation to taboos surrounding body integrity. The exception here is done with great significance and care- these earrings can be made only with true meteoric iron, considered to be the blood of God Itself. Permanently marking their bodies with this metal signifies this priesthood's integral connection to maintaining the continual cycle of sacrifice/rebirth that is believed to keep God's domain stable, and binds them to this role.
-Sandals: usually very simple in construction. Monks are often expected to go barefoot, but the cities are quite dirty so most prefer to avoid this if possible.
-Ceremonial dagger: a sign of a fully initiated monk. It is curved and its sheath is decorated with a tuft of lion's mane (a signal of the Galenii order's close connection to the Odonii order). Most of its uses are ceremonial, but it will be periodically used to perform animal sacrifices. A smaller razor blade is kept in the home for personal bloodletting.
-Hair: Fully initiated monks shave their heads, while those in the process of initiation have relative freedom with hair dressing. Palo is wearing his hair in a single braid tucked around the front. Broadly speaking, braiding the hair is associated with female beauty standards throughout much of Imperial Wardin (though generally in two braids). There is no cultural convention Against men doing so, but it is regarded as mildly effeminate (particularly in the south and southeast).
-Lore Friendly Sunglasses: Palo has photosensitive epilepsy. No effective treatments for epilepsy exist in the setting (most 'treatments' in Imperial Wardin are alchemical in nature, ie: ambiguously helpful at best or literal poison at worst), but understanding of the Nature of epilepsy as a neurological disorder is relatively accurate, and the concept of photosensitivity is loosely understood (though not with great accuracy, it's assumed to be caused by light in General). Palo had this pair of (VERY expensive) sunglasses commissioned as a youth, which Do slightly reduce the frequency of his seizures. Devastatingly stylish as they may be, his glasses do not offer much visual clarity so he only wears them in bright conditions.
#Am working on the dreaded Art Fight References#Also height comparison. Palo looks taller than he is because he's skinny as fuck and next to a 4'9'' guy. But he's 5'10''#Which is above average height for the setting (average man is probably 5'6''-7'') but not huge#I kind of need to reintroduce these guys because I made the earliest posts about them right around when I started actually writing#and a lot of their background lore has changed.#Namely their upbringings- most of the cast of the White Calf are stupid wealthy Imperial Wardi elites and I needed these guys to be like...#Normal people.#Tigran is still from a branch of a family that is wealthy in distant Ubibi but his specific branch is poor agricultural laborers living#around the lower Brilla river next to Wardin (city)#Palo is still better off but not crazy rich- his family were glass workers and traders out of Godsmouth and#would be considered middle class. Wealthy enough for occasional extravagances like sunglasses but nothing ridiculous#Most of the post-White Calf era stuff is now outdated too#AND ON ANOTHER TANGENT- most sun protective eyewear in this part of the setting is less 'elegant' (affordable sunglasses would#be mostly sheets of hammered bronze with punctured holes)#There is relatively sophisticated eyewear produced in Bur and Imperial Wardin (including some actual moderately useful glasses for#correcting visual impairment) but good pairs are prohibitively expensive and made by dedicated craft workers#Palo's pair would have cost about a year of his father's wages#palo apolynnon#tigran otto#the white calf

thoughts on who initiated the hand holding during titanic? and perhaps any thoughts on the first time they held hands?
who cares who initiated the handholding. both of them. that movie gets scary as fuck especially if you frequently work on big boats on big open oceans in tight enclosed spaces. nightmare material fr
#someone asked about ices reaction to the oceangate incident last month & i wrote out#like a 1.5k word essay that was then promptly rendered obsolete the next morning when they all got declared dead#but part of it was: bros been on nuclear submarines this is a top 5 fear#look up uss thresher incident. nightmare nightmare nightmare#in terms of first time they held hands: i got nothin.#if it helps they only hold hands while sitting down. they never hold hands while walking.#height difference is sometimes prohibitive#icemav

so i'm finally reading through the terror scripts and i think this was designed to cause me physical pain.
crozier was supposed to be drinking to schubert..... god
#it's honest to god so interesting to see what was cut and what was rearranged#but the uh. the descriptions of the emotions that were not to be spoken?#the internal thought processes that can't be precisely conveyed without words?#i am Dying. this is Killing Me.#fucking *schubert*. god.#'it is not romantic or charismatic. it is hard to watch.' SEND HELP#the terror#i wish i had more coherent thoughts but like. jesus christ.#schubert also had some truly wretched parts of his life.#he wasn't able to marry women of higher classes than him. this was bc of a law that prohibited it but he was still restrained by his financ#*finances#a thing that sophia specifically points out to crozier in the show#aside from that there isn't much that i know off the top of my head#but his 'winterreise' is truly depressing. and 'die schone mullerin' isn't much better#actually die schone mullerin might be very apt for this.#the narrative follows a man falling in love with a woman that is beyond his grasp. and eventually ends in him fantasizing about his death.#uh. presumably the singer drowns in a brook at the end.#so! yeah! that one line in the script is making me lose my mind.#i am gonna keep reading them but i also think i will be a very sad puddle by the end of it#forgive the tag rambling. schubert isn't a main focus of mine#but i know a bit about him and a good bit about his music. it's. painful. also schubert died very young. like 31 years old young.#but anyway i guess i will find the damndest of parallels everywhere.

people that whine when Pan Africanists regard Ancient Egyptian as African are wusses, because even though I don't agree with everything some people say, they have insights into Ancient Egypt that are in fact very important and it is objectively true that Egypt is in Africa
#cipher talk#See: the book I'm reading pointing out ancient Egypt also had totemism which I hadn't seen discussed before#Despite reading things that discussed the topic of how certain regions and deities prohibited eating certain things#It's not that this is never discussed its just that people don't usually put it in those terms in the stuff I read#Probably in part because totemism has been viewed as 'primitive'. And it's probably not conscious avoidance either#It also makes it click for me that. Ah that's part of why so many gods had animal forms#Because that's also a big part of totemism#Another interesting thing I read from this perspective was an argument that ancient Egypt stressed a degree of matrilineality

Inazuma and Sumeru have such huge problems, Liyue is dealing with their loss of a god, and then there's Mondstadt whose biggest social problem is alcoholism.
#analysis#me reading mika and diona's lore: hmm#me playing some daily commissions: hmm#me rereading some limited world events: hmm#it calls out to this dumb part of me that wants to see someone write a prohibition era mondstadt#full of jazz and speakeasies#dark detective genre trying to catch a serial killer#hahaha#that would never work but it's fun to think about#mondstadt without alcohol is not mondstadt at all#i am genuinely curious when it comes to their alcohol loving culture though#seems neglect is a common theme in the families of mondstadt#HMMM#this is making me want to write an analysis on mondstadt culture in general#not counting bennett it seems families are not particularly close#like with eula and her family#barbara and jean whose parents split#thoma's mom that had no qualms sending her son away to inazuma#kaeya and diluc are their own separate thing#yet paradoxically mondstadt is the warmest nation in teyvat#blood ties are not necessarily close but their bonds transcend blood#like with this last event like i just absolutely adored amber's thoughts towards collei#there is a lot of emotional maturity in mondstadt's inhabitants#HMMMMM

Would the History and politics of the real world affect the story of this Ponyville? i.e. the Spartacist uprising/Bolshevik Revolution along with the First Red Scare or would those events be fictionalized around the ponies and Equestria?
If it serves the story.

Dee's the writer and director... stepping into the leader position she naturally gravitates towards... she's casting the roles. She cast wrong in dee day, but this will change.
She always wanted the lead role before, which got in-between mac and dennis, but if she steps back (behind the scenes), she won't be their buffer anymore and then...
I rewatched aluminum monster vs fatty magoo and noticed how bad mac is at being controlling and manipulative (he follows exactly what frank says, doing things that he's still trying to apply to this day, like announcing dennis' announcement), how dennis can only ever see himself as filling the role perfectly, and how dee naturally stages a strike and everyone listens to her.
I also rewatched gets held hostage and noticed how it heavily features frank's will and how his gun saves the day, both elements that are coming back in tandem in ep2 of s16... and hostage is a very interesting ep in analyzing the group dynamics and how they interact with each or betray each other. It's also like... its talk of stockholm syndrome, because due to dee's monologue I feel like "why are you doing this to me?" will be a theme, in s16. Because it's like... well ok, no only is it also in gets whacked p2, but it implies that you fell in love with the other person because they did something to you...
look, I'm being rambly (as usual), but what I'm saying is that I feel like s16 will pull a lot from s3 specifically... I guess we will see more clearly when it airs, but I wanted to put it out there. It's not just THAT season tho there's like, season 9 too. and 14.
#iasip#s16 spoilers#it's always sunny in philadelphia#always sunny#bro i dont know where i was going with this... im writing analysis posts like they're journal entries lmaoo#and also like forgive me for this lol but i feel like they're using liam and ryan to parallel macdennis a bunch but especially in hostage#i feel like theyre the data jumper refers to when it comes to like. having a gay couple on the show???? cuz like. well yk. it is what it is#and now they're in the bowling episode saying mixing things is strictly prohibited idk maybe im seeing things but mayb not anyways#yea um no comment. this isnt my most coherent post#i like the part abt how dee isnt gonna be between mac and dens' story anymore tho looking to be the lead bc shes STEPPING BACK from actress#to control it from behind the scenes like a director#which will leave mac and den without a third wheel..... damn. dee is the wildcard huh?#i really sincerely hope we have the whole gang scheming mac and dennis shit behind their backs in s16#like thats hilarious come on#and they all have different goals and methods in mind and dennis is like the lil lab rat unaware victim of it all#then the veil is pulled and BAM!!!! the gang broke dennis. it's genius

Me being insane aside, i fucking love paying mind to character's way of speaking because i feel you can say so much about their personalities with the kind of words they most commonly use. Absolutely fascinating stuff, i wished i knew how to explain/ramble on this properly.
#i think that's part of why writing dialogue is so fun to me#and also why a lot of people struggle doing so#oftentimes you see writters who tend to fall in writing character speech that sounds to similar with one another#lack of variatiy within the choice of words that makes them feel somewhat samey#like a certain popular show with a bright distinct artstyle set in hell#where basically every single character swears like a sailor. which the bulk of the cast hardly feel different from one another#it does highlight the few characters who do swear very little. i'll give it that. but at what cost#not saying swearing is prohibited but you could show more varying personalities with the amount of words the characters use#even when it comes to the insults#hyena ramblings#writing

actually the main point of which Fallen London does not let me roleplay, is that the game 100% constantly forces you to have your character drink alcohol ahdjfjfggkgkkhkjj
#it was The Time Period so i get it XD but like#that wasnt a good thing lmao#whilst i do not agree with parts. there is a reason for the ties btwn the suffragette movement and prohibition#(due to the ties btwn it and domestic violence) but thats a whole other topic#prophet's fl nonsense
