hello there everyone

i'm sobbing profusely hello

mob psycho is quite the amazing thing but my goodness can it destroy my happiness but in a /pos way i suppose and the whole time while watching it i held in my tears (because i was watching it with my dearest father who DID NOT shed a single tear. props to him i do not have his emotional capacity) and am now sobbing uncontrollably. i'm having the grandest time right now and cannot be any better!! anyways mp100 has to be one of my favorite shows of all time it has a wonderful story with wonderful characters and a great story and wondrous resolution. such an amazing piece of media

I think about how Joel probably pre-wrote letters for Sarah when she was a baby, and as she grew older he wrote more and kept them in a box to give to her when she graduated highschool and went off to college :( I bet he had one written for her 16th birthday. One for her first Prom and highschool graduation. One for when she would get married and—

No, no, no, just picture him in his little office area hunched over his work bench writing all these letters and then the outbreak happened and he never got the chance to give them to her 🥺

So, years later, after meeting Ellie and losing Tess, and finding Tommy, Joel finds out that Tommy saved all the letters Joel wrote for Sarah and kept them safe all these years. So, one night he and Ellie read them together in Jackson, and when she sees him start to tear up she hugs him real tight and he, of course, tries to act all tough and strong for his babygirl but he crumbles in her arms and Ellie just gently starts petting his overgrown hair, mumbling about how he desperately needs a haircut to try and make him laugh.

He’s hugging her back and letting himself feel all these repressed feelings all at once and then goes,

“I—I can start writing letters for you too, babygirl.”

And she gives him that little Ellie smile, punching his shoulder lightly before she’s hugging him again as he kisses the side of her head, closing his eyes to allow this memory to be engrained in his brain for the rest of his days.

“I’d like that a lot, old man.”

He laughs a real, hearty laugh, eyes crinkling in the corners showing his age and life he’s lived. He ruffles her hair, muttering under his breath about how he isn’t that old.

He writes so many letters for his babygirl and she keeps every single one, even after he’s passed of old age in his cozy bed, she still reads them and keeps them close to her heart, because having a piece of him is better than not having him there at all.

"Otousan?"

There's a tug on Yuichi's sleeve and he puts down the vegetables he just got done washing before turning his head to look over his shoulder.

"Oh, kitten, is something wrong?" he murmurs, brow furrowing at the sight of his daughter's concerned gaze. Hana is visiting him in the Hidden City and he's aware that something has been bothering her – he hasn't asked about it yet, hoping that she'd open up about her worries in her own time.

Maybe she's ready now.

"Not really, I just…" Hana stops, chewing on her lip before letting go of Yuichi's yukata and stepping closer to hug him from behind instead. Yuichi decides to halt his dinner preparations for the time being and leans into the embrace.

"...are you happy?"

Yuichi startles. He didn't expect to be asked that.

"I am. Is that what you've been worried about?"

The calico squeezes him tighter for a moment, then sighs.

"Have I been that obvious?"

Yuichi chuckles and rubs the back of his head against Hana's ear. "Nope, it's just impossible to hide anything from me."

Hana laughs. “Sure. Just like you noticed right away when your favourite kimono went missing, among other things.” 

“Just so you know, I pretended not to notice, young lady. As a parent, some things are worth sacrificing. Like one’s dignity.” 

“Yeah right,” Hana giggles but then quiets down before speaking again. 

“Dad… Does he make you happy?”

“Leonardo? Oh, sweetie,” Yuichi murmurs and turns in Hana's arms to hold her instead, tucking her head under his chin. 

“The happiest,” he sighs, smiling. “I'm so lucky. All these years of being single… he was well worth the wait.” 

“He better be,” Hana mutters, “if he breaks your heart, I'm breaking his face.” 

“Not his face!” Yuichi laughs. “Haven't you seen how handsome he is?” 

“Oh, I'm aware.”

Yuichi can feel her grin against his neck and he holds his kitten tighter. He knows she's joking… kind of. He’s under no illusions about the seriousness of her threat and while a breakup doesn't seem likely, he feels sorry for his boyfriend. 

If they ever get into an argument or Yuichi shows even the tiniest signs of upset because of his relationship and Hana gets a whiff of it, he knows that Leonardo will be in for a world of hurt – and not only because of Hana; he’s certain that all of his daughters would have a bone to pick with the slider, then. He might be a ninja but so are the girls and Yuichi wouldn’t wish their ire upon anyone… especially not the man he’s fallen in love with. 

However, he thinks he’s very lucky to have such a protective family. 

Hana sighs but the exhale sounds less tense than before and she buries her face into his chest. “I'm happy for you,” come the muffled words against his collar, and Yuichi feels emotional almost to the point of tears. 

He’s so very lucky, indeed.

Screaming and crying over Pete telling Steph to let him die to save her and the world, and then the next words, the opening lyrics to Cooler Than I Think I Am Reprise, are "You can call this luck, that's my perspective."

Pete considers it lucky that he is the thing Steph cherishes most. Because that means he can choose to die. He can save her, make sure she lives. Make the decision so she doesn't have to.

If it were anyone else, if she cherished someone more than Pete, then it probably would have been her singing the song to convince him to give her up. And he wouldn't have been able to argue back very strongly, cause what is he going to do? Tell her to murder this presumably innocent person that has nothing to do with any of this?

No, from Pete's perspective, being the thing Steph cherishes most is the luckiest thing in the world right now, not because he doesn't lose, but because Steph gets to live, and that's enough of a win to make his impending death worth it and a turn of luck.

Meta writing is happening but I have to give you this snippet because it might be the end of me if I don't share it right this second!!!

I cannot tell you how much I am in love with the Koi carp on Alex’s dressing room wall because the symbolism - the symbolism!!!!!

Koi are seen as a symbol of strength, patience, perseverance, love and bravery they symbolise success through courage. Koi are known to swim against the current and overcome great obstacles - there is a Japanese proverb ‘Koi no Takinobori’ which translates as 'koi swim up waterfalls' and as the word Koi in Japanese also translates to mean love the proverb therefore means that love can go against the current and overcome great obstacles and if that isn’t the perfect metaphor for Alex and Henry’s relationship then I don’t know what is!!!

I am obsessed and I adore the set designer for including that wallpaper in general, but especially in their text banter flirty developing relationship - the writing is essentially on the wall for where their relationship is going and how its going to unfold - they are literally Koi swimming agains the current and successfully overcoming great obstacles to be together!!
