cressida's storyline was genuinely shameful tbhhh it's like they started rewriting it in the first half of the season then completely forgot about the changes they'd made to make it fit the book plot and it just ends up making everyone else look bad😐 every character in the second half got a "penelope did nothing wrong" lobotomy so we ended up with eloise completely ignoring cressida being sold off to an horrible man (when she made every effort to support her in the first half of the season) and for some reason resenting her for pretending to be lady whistledown? Then they somehow frame her ignoring colin's offensively bad pleas as it being her turning away from redemption when all she's trying to do is escape being trapped in the country with her likely abusive aunt... and it ends with her meeting her horrible fate and it still being framed as tragic only to immediately juxtapose it with the bridgerton family winning the idgaf war while gleefully seeing off francesca and her future dead husband. The bridgertons were the villains of the season frfr

i was rewatching the last few episodes of the pjo tv show and the way percy’s loyalty is being depicted kinda makes me think that rick riordan heard those few people who say that loyalty isn’t actually a serious/dangerous character flaw (when talking either about pjo or about other media) and just said BET

i remember watching boardwalk empire and yknow it’s a show about actual gangsters and criminals during the american prohibition era. downright despicable people committing crimes from the very light to the especially heinous. and yet, and yet, outside of the tumblr bubble (which still had an active bwe fandom at the time), i’d come across thread after thread of why margaret thompson or gillian darmody or daughter maitland or lucy danziger or freaking billie kent was Actually the Worst Character on the show. when willie was Right There. people will always find a reason to uwu-ify the guys and dismiss the women as ‘annoying’. every time.

I have been painfully busy this week but this is a driveby post to update you on my status as a late stage Singto girlie. (Or Singto old womanie..) I am watching SOTUS and Shadow concurrently. 6 episodes into each. Here are my most important feelings: - Shadow is excellent and thought-provoking and filling the DFF hole in my life, but the most exciting FOR ME development was when Dan got stoned and fucked that shadow. Like good for him. His evil Catholic school trying to indoctrinate him into treating it like a figment of his imagination and repressing it into nothingness and instead, with the help of a little mary jane, he just went ahead and fucked that shadow. I was so proud of him. - I don't want to say anything too controversial about SOTUS because I'm watching it for the History and I'm highkey aware that eight years of discourse about the series that launched Thai BL into a phenomenon is not something to wade into ill-prepared. NONETHELESS I will recklessly share that, at least in these early episodes, Kong seems like he's unconsciously searching for a dom, and just really really excited to meet someone who gives him orders and publicly humiliates him and makes him feel small and striving. As a freak sub who used to read hazing stories in teen magazines as wank fodder I feel him, but I do hope Art actually has it in him to fill that need. It already feels a bit like Art is the one who is gonna get dommed in the end, and I mean good for him but ALSO I hope Kong can get his needs met and not just take care of everyone else all the time. Thank you for coming to my uninformed Ted Talk I should have kept to myself til I finished the series.

Kazutora in the anime reminds me again how he kept wanting to save Mikey even in Bonten and how he was not just fulfilling Baji's will of taking care of Mikey but also his OWN desire to save the friend who saved him from the black dragons, and also saved him by forgiving him.

Kazutora wanted to distance himself from others in fear of betrayal in the start, and it was Mikey who helped him open up and accept help from his friends, promising they would all protect eachother. It would have made so much sense to make it a whole circle by having Kazutora be the one to also reach out to Mikey while suffering from his dark impulses, making Mikey accept help from all his friends who love him, so he can be saved. Toman's true purpose of protecting eachother would be fulfilled, along the goals of the past timeline kazutora's. Because really, the way the story was written, Kazutora as a character was not finished until he freed Sano Manjiro from his suffering and they got to be close again, after healing from both their pasts.

Because really, Mikey was never saved, even though that was the whole point. No, re-living your life where everything is perfect and fine isn't healing. What it means to be saved, is to fully confront your past and acknowledge what happened, mend relations with others, and learn to still love and be loved. Mikey wasn't saved because they created a false reality where there was nothing to even be healed from. A big part of Mikey's character is being lonely at the top, pushing others away, and becoming isolated. How come, even in the "perfect" timeline, there is still mention from Mikey of being lonely?? Even if it's a half hearted joke, it makes no sense.

What was the point even, then. To save everyone? Even though the ending contradicts itself. To "save" everyone the way they did, they had to in the process, deem everyone who grew with trauma as irredeemable and unsaveable. Why did Mikey even reach out to Izana then? It makes sense, if the story is telling the reader, no matter how much you messed up, no matter how much you lost, you can still turn your life around and be happy, that no one is too far gone. Mikey approaches Izana as a brother, despite him killing Emma and wanting to destroy him, because he saw himself in Izana. They BOTH needed help. None of them got it. "Mikey, there is no way to save me, right?" No, I guess not, according to the ending. No one can actually turn back time. We can only live with what happens to us. Guess we are all fucked then.
