Man, writing prophecies kinda suck when you wanna be kinda vague? And it's not your typical type of writing.

But hey, I finally nailed down Lilliandra's prophecy for my fic! Like, 99% sure I will not change anything else and can put it in my fic early. (I updated my prologue with it added in. Not like I have a ton of readers, nor does it change the story)

Great news for uninsured adults in the USA who want a COVID-19 booster! It now appears that ALL CVS locations are now active participants in the Bridge Access Program. The Bridge Access Program gives out free Covid-19 vaccinations to 18+ adults who otherwise can't afford one, so if you have a CVS near you, please go get one! For others who don't have a CVS near them, please go to vaccines.gov, click on "Find Covid-19 vaccines", fill out which vaccines you prefer (you can mix different vaccines if you have to so i reccomend just marking all of them for the age groups you need), and when the next page loads mark the "Bridge Access Program Participant" option to see only locations that are Bridge Access Program participants. Hopefully, other places that aren't CVS will start participating soon, so just check back every so often to see if there are any updates. The CDC Bridge Access Program website also has more details on what locations will be participating, but only CVS is appearing as an active participant on the vaccines.gov location finder at the moment.

Sobbing uncontrollably reading through a dissertation about the college experience of students with ADHD. It is like reading a report about my life that just says over and over "My experiences are real. My hardships are real. I am not lazy, I am not dumb. My struggles were not my fault, and they were not a moral failing. The failure was with the system, not with me."

Here's a line that got me in particular:

"Hotez et al.(2022) compared the health, academic, and non-academic capacities of a nationally representative sample of U.S. first-year college students with ADHD and without ADHD. Students with ADHD self-reported lower academic aspirations and more feelings of depression and overwhelm, ranking themselves lower in their general emotional health. The fact that students with ADHD scored in the highest 10th percentile for many non-academic traits, such as artistic ability, computer skills, creativity, public speaking, social confidence, self-understanding and understanding of others, compassion, and risk-tasking, suggests that this population has strengths that are frequently underappreciated in academia."

Who Is Scout's Ma?

She's a character we know extremely little about, however when you stop to consider the IMPLICATIONS of what little we DO know, things start to get interesting:

1. She lives in the roughest part of Boston ("if you were from where I was from, you'd be dead") but dresses quite elegantly.

2. She had 8 boys, all of whom she raised BY HERSELF, and yet somehow she finds the time to maintain this impeccable appearance.

3. Scout clearly loves and admires her to a point where it's one of the few things he'll drop his "tough guy" act for, and dialogue in the comics like "Ma's gonna kill me if she finds out" implies he also still fears her disapproval, despite being a fully autonomous adult.

4. Spy, despite what he likes to pretend, is clearly head-over-heels for her. He even had her likeness engraved on his fanciest gun! (Note the distinct hairband & hoop earrings) For a man who avoids attachment to the point where he never lets anyone see his face, that's an unusual degree of infatuation.

5. None of Scout's brothers left Boston while he was growing up, despite a few of them presumably being adults by then. Not only this, they were still all getting into fights together, implying they were both continuing to live with or near their mother and brothers, AND had reasons to brawl with others beyond just some adolescent street scuffle.

My Theory:

Scout's Ma is the matriarch of a Boston-based crime family.

It explains her elegant appearance, how she and Spy were able to meet, why their bond clearly goes beyond a one-off fling, why she was able to be in Scout's life so much despite the financial burdens of being a single mother of 8, and why all of said 8 were continuing to get into fights with other locals. They weren't just some street gang, they were enforcers. It also explains why/how Scout got into mercenary work, his many mafia-themed weapons, and why he continues to fear her ire even as an adult.

Plus, take a look at this unused angle of the last photo from Meet The Spy:

You'd THINK a single mother from the rough side of Boston wouldn't appear so in-her-element on a fancy date with The Spy, and yet her appearance and demeanour here just SCREAM "confident and in control."

Scout's Ma is Boston's Godmother, and I desperately wish to see someone draw her as such.

i was always curious about this picture of nico seemingly upset on the podium and lewis trying(?) to comfort him so I dug up the lore.

here's nico looking gorgeously upset on podium. now let's set the scene:

it's bahrain grand prix 2015, and lewis hamilton has won 3 out of 4 races this season. the other race win? sebastian vettel. you have to realise in 2014, nico took it to the last race he was the clear title contender and now lewis and seb are above him in the standings. everyone's giving him the full checo in 2023 treatment, is rosberg a second driver now is his career OVER!!! brocedes are also beefing in the previous race, china 15

hamilpole, vettel 2nd and nico 3rd in quali. race start and nico gets fucking Punted into p4. everyone thinks it's joever.

nico spends this entire race fighting for his life, battling vettel for p2 and is on his ass, forcing him into mistakes. it isn't until vettel damages his front wing and needs to pit letting nico pass. however! 14 laps to go and kimi has pitted for softs is when nico's breaks start failing. these mercs are fast but they're not reliable. kimi starts gaining a second a lap and with 3 laps to go, he overtakes nico to p2.

on the podium and after, nico is upset even though he's now second in the championship -- overtaking vettel by 1 point.

but you can see the gap to lewis, and it doesn't matter how good a race you have or what issues your car has when you're compared to thee teammate of all time.

Another Gravity Falls AU idea I had:

During blendens game, somone points out they should get two time wishes because they both beat blendin. So they do. They give one to soos, and keep the other for themselves. Obviously, Dipper wants to use it to meet the Author, and I cant think of anything Mabel would want bad enough at this point in time to really get in his way.

Now this could go multiple ways.

A. they hoard the wish like a limited resource in a video game (same) and it eventually gets used to either end weirdmageddon or stop it from happening in the first place (Mabel using it to wish for more summer instead of accidently dealing with Bill)

or B, what I think is more likely, Dipper wishes to meet the author.

This, too, could go multiple ways. Ford comes back way earlier in the show, OR...

Dipper gets sent to another dimension.

For the stories sake, he'd left Journal 3 at home that day- or perhaps made a copy of some sort, I can imagine him copying everything in it down in another book due to his obsession with it. Either way, Mabel and Stan work together, now having journals 1 and 3.

And as for Dipper, well, he meets Ford. In the middle of some sort of battle, most likely. There are countless different things this could lead to, but mostly bonding, I think. Bonding and Truama from running away from otherwordly horrors.

Ford tells Dipper about his experience with Stan, and Dipper tells Ford about his own. Dipper being a more emotionally intelligent version of Ford probobly gets him to get over at least a little of his resentment.

One of my recent posts got a few comments about media literacy being dead and Neil being an unreliable narrator so I want to clear some things up.

Firstly, media literacy isn't dead becuase it cannot die. Also, I am not a big fan of fear mongering. Humans have always sought to understand and communicate with each other about the things we create. It is a skill that can be taught and should be practiced. There is no one right way to do it. And, while I think the education system fails so many of us (something something to make us easier to control something something), I also think that there are tons of resources to help us learn without the need for an official "teacher". So, instead of pessimistically saying is it "dead" (especially on someone's textual analysis post, like... are you saying I prove it's dead becuase I don't have media literacy? are you agreeing with me and therefore proving yourself wrong? do I not count for some reason? i don't think I get it), engage in discourse about media that you love. And I mean actual discourse, not just fighting on social media about whether or not everyone should "like" your favorite character. Ask yourself "what is the effect of this rhetorical device in the text?" "is the text trying to make me like or not like this character? is it working, why or why not," (do not ask "why did the author do this?" because that is not relevant nor are you a mind reader). Take free online Literature classes from colleges that help you learn how to analyze. Invite others to do it with you. Join or start a book club. Engage in various types of media, not just YA, fantasy, fiction, etc. Consider kindly rebutting or offering a counter point to other people's interpretations, bringing actual textual evidence to back up your points. Use Google Scholar to access free scholarly articles to see academic prospectives on various medias that are not just from social media or blogs. Your local library may even have subscriptions to paid sights like JSTOR or collections of essays that would let you access articles that are otherwise behind a paywall. All of these things can help improve your own media literacy and, in turn, will help improve the media literacy of the people around you.

Secondly, the point of my other post was NOT that Neil is an unreliable narrator. I've seen a lot of people make this claim so I wanted to chime in. Unreliable narrators are marked by a few characteristics, some of which are exaggeration, detachment from reality, naivety, and deception of the reader. I don't believe Neil falls into any of these categories. I would be open to arguments that claim he does, but it would be hard to sway me because I can't find any textual evidence to support it. This is an important distinction to me because the larger claim I make in that post is that ALL narration, 1st person, 3rd person, omniscient, limited, etc is biased- all of it. It is CRUCIAL as readers to identify a narrators biases and consider the text through that lens. If you aren't practicing doing that (or only doing it when the narrator is "unreliable") you can easily fall into the trap of saying "well Neil says Kevin is a coward so he is", which is obviously an issue in the grand scheme of textual analysis. However, you can also easily fall into the trap of saying "Neil is an unreliable narrator because he is wrong about things/lies to people/has trauma so you can't trust him". I believe that Neil tells us as the reader the truth in his narration almost 100% of the time, Neil just lies to the other characters 24/7. So, as readers we should take what he says in his internal monologue at face value but question the motives behind his dialogue with other characters.

Anyway, that was a long winded, probably boring monologue about critical textual analysis. I devote maybe 16 out of my 18 waking hours to thinking about this, so thanks for hanging in there to read it all. I just care so deeply that we as a culture continue to grow these skills without shaming those who haven't had the same opportunities to learn how to do it or making the act of learning how to feel hopeless or doomed.

It makes me want to feel again, and make art again. It makes me remember what it's like to have passion about anything. So even though we're strangers to each other, thank you.
