Imagine being 14 years old suddenly grieving the lost of an uncle, one of the two people who raised you, and discovering he was a spy and murdered by a billionaire tech company your government blackmailed you to infiltrate with only eleven days of spy training but NO weapons training because they will sacrifice a child’s life for the Greater Good, going through vivid near-death experiences, sleep in the same bed their uncle slept on before dying, watch several people die grotesquely but god forbid they let a kid use a gun.

Then all you earn is a lackluster backhanded compliment and a doctor’s note to excuse all your absences. Be told to get back to school and wait for a possible next mission while acutely aware MI6 holds your house, entire inheritance, your nanny’s visa, and your choice of ever saying no.

Honestly? I don’t know why people don’t get along. Actually, I may. I look at it a lot. I’m done now.

We look at one another differently, we feel differently, we think differently, we love differently, and we’re gridlocked in our beliefs. It feels that the differences are numerous and seemingly insurmountable. But are they?

I think I may have a small solution in the interim. So we all eat. And that very important fact, is a part of the human experience. I’m pretty sure, we feel hungry, and at the very least a lot of us require sustenance, via food. And I think, unless we have super strong opinions about food, which I know people do, it’s usually a topic that brings people together, as opposed to being a point of contention. (With the exception of the age old fight between Chicago and New York about who has the best pizza and hot dogs. I will clear that up now…it’s Chicago.)

Now that that “hot button” topic has been settled, I feel that sharing love is easy when hypothetical “you” discusses food. A lot of people have favorite kinds of food, and it usually involves smiling and laughing and knowing where the best kind of “some kind of food or another” is, or how you or someone you are related to and/or know makes the best kind of it.

So, instead of discussing our differences in a heated debate, like tomorrow, why don’t we talk about pasta? Or French fries: curly vs. steak vs. sticks? Or where the best bakery is for the best pastries, and when we can get together to have a taste test?

I truly believe THAT, will change the world, and make it a better, and not only palatable, but definitely a more amicable and delicious place to be. 👍🤷‍♀️🤣

I know there are a lot of people thinking about killing themselves right now. I felt the exact same way in 2016 when he first got elected.

This is a bad thing, but to anyone having these types of thoughts, please don't do anything that can't be undone. This is the last term he can be be inaugurated, after these 4 years, or hopefully less, he will be gone. It's difficult to stay positive right now, and that's okay. You don't have to stay positive, it's okay to feel these emotions as they are. But please do not commit suicide, because if you do, you won't be able to feel any emotions ever again.

Even though I felt hopeless at the time, I am so glad that I didn't kill myself in 2016.

For my own sake, I really need the people who are upset with this election to stay alive with me

#a nuanced ‘generally no’#unless I could be quick and casual and non-intrusive about it#I think it follows the same rules as like. if you wanted to compliment a stranger?#like if I’m at the bagel store and I’m in line behind Steve Buscemi (a possibility) and he’s not busy/in conversation/etc#then it would be okay to say a quick word and then go back to minding my own business#the way you might say ‘hey I like your jacket!’ to someone in that situation#but you don’t get up in a restaurant and walk over to someone’s table and interrupt their meal to compliment their outfit#so don’t do that to famous people either#so like. odds are that in most situations I wouldn’t be able to say something quickly/non-invasively so I wouldn’t#but I think there are times when it’s okay as long as you’re quick and respectful and not interrupting (via @goatsandgangsters)
