The federal government is expanding a list of Iranian officials that are inadmissible to Canada. Ottawa first introduced measures under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) in November 2022 that barred a number of senior Iranian officials from entering Canada. Those measures applied to people who were senior members of the Iranian government from November 2019 onward.  But the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced Sunday that its pushing that date back to June 23, 2003.

Lightfall is my current favorite kids / tween graphic novel series. If you've never read one of these, go read book one, The Girl & The Galdurian. Everything about it is beautiful, and it makes me wish my now-adult daughter still let me read to her. It's a fantasy adventure about two friends, Bea and Cad, trying to stop a giant bird from destroying all of the lights (think mini-suns) of their world. Bea's cat, Nimm, accompanies them on their quest, plus others are often around, too. Caution: spoilers ahead.

Lightfall Book 2: Shadow of the Bird by Tim Probert. Harper Alley, 2022. 9780062990488. 256pp.

After getting a note from Bea's gramps and learning more about both the Restless Sleeper (Kest, that giant bird) and Irpa (their planet), Bea and Cad set off to either stop Kest or find another of the ancient beings that created Irpa or maybe both. It's high stakes with shadow creatures, mass evacuations, and giant lights falling from the sky. Not to worry, though; Bea is super brave, and Cad has a huge sword, plus their friends help out. (And the ending is my favorite kind, dark enough for me to love it but not without hope.)

I thought this might be the final volume in the series but good news, it's not!

In a last-ditch effort to save their planet, Bea and Cad head for The Citadel of Knowledge. That's right, a library! I assume you don't need to know more to get you to read this. But if I was pitching this to my daughter, I'd also tell her there's a giant bat-like being at the heart of the story in this volume. (They love bats.)

T'anta wawa ("bread baby", from Aymara and Quechua t'anta "bread" and wawa "child, baby") is a type of sweet roll shaped and decorated in the form of a small child or infant. They are generally made of wheat and sometimes contain a sweet filling. They are made and eaten as part of ancestral rites in Andean regions of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, the south of Colombia, and the north of Argentina, mainly on All Souls' Day, but also as part of agricultural festivals, carnivals, and Christmas. T'anta wawa are consumed on November 2 all over the Andean region. They are eaten with colada morada. They are made by families and exchanged among groups of family and friends and given to godchildren. In rural cemeteries and indigenous communities, such as Tungurahua Province, they are used as offerings as part of a ceremony of encounter with one's ancestors.

And my final Big Project............... A performing arts school AU featuring @peachiehambo's Yoona and the Fodlan kids, in which they put on a performance of Wicked! Many thanks to @moonlightleafs @irpas-fe-corner @emotiandon @incompletenova @dovehearts-blog @geummi @ophie @spaghetti-trash @maynope00 @maimais for letting me borrow your children for the pit orchestra ^^ It was a nightmare trying to arrange it so that everyone is visible in the canvas.... and I learnt that with such an angle, realistically, those closest to the camera lens would be absolutely squished and weird looking oTL NEVER AGAIN SHALL I DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS, BUT IT WAS A GREAT LESSONS I GUESS?? I also don't want to draw keyboards again I MAY BE A KEYBOARDIST BUT THEY ARE SO FULL OF THINGS I DO NOT WANTTTT For the end credits, I did a quick (really quick sobs) instrumental arrangement of For Good on the vibraphone. Can you spot the one melody line I snuck in from the Fire Emblem Main Theme? XDDDD Many thanks to the wonderful recording on youtube of One Short Day by the Australian cast, which I used as a reference (especially for Yuri's pirouette animation....!). The costumes were adapted (and simplified sobs) from Susan Hiferlty's original designs. Special thanks to my sister for everything; without you, i'd never have been able to make this happen ;w;
