the first time peter messes up badly enough that tony drops the full name ("peter benjamin parker!"), peter just freezes. he bluescreens for a solid thirty seconds, barely comprehending anything else that tony's saying.

and then he tackles tony in a hug.

and tony jumps 'cause he's obviously startled that they did a complete 180. and peter just starts shaking like a leaf, cause the only people who've ever called him by his full name using that particular tone were people like may, and people like ben, and people like his parents—

and peter knows that tony has no idea what he's just done, but it doesn't matter, because that's the moment when peter realizes that he wants tony to think of him as a son.

5 times someone was trusted with Peter only to later realize how special that was + 1 time they already knew

The first five are like, Happy picking Peter up from school and bitching about it, only to realize how much his boss trusts him when he's later asked to pick up Morgan from preschool

Pepper being asked to comfort Peter while Tony is on a mission, only to realize how important that is when she sees them reunite and Peter fully breaks down with relief in Tony's arms

Rhodey being asked to stop Peter from suiting up during a dangerous situation, only to realize after multiple escape attempts how capable his best friend believes him to be

May letting Tony mentor Peter, only for Tony to also come to see him as his son and realize May was trusting him with her entire world

etc.

The +1 is either: May puts Tony as backup guardian if anything happens to her, and by the time something does Tony fully understands how special that is

Or: After witnessing countless examples of father-son behavior, the Rogues are suddenly trusted to keep Peter safe during a dangerous situation (maybe a kidnapping? an attack?). The fact that Tony trusts them with his son's safety, even after everything, speaks volumes
