Happy Nollaig na mBan!
Perhaps one of my favourite Irish traditions is Little Christmas, otherwise known as Women's Christmas, or Nollaig na mBan, which takes place on 6th January every year.
It traditionally heralds the end of Christmas and is a day to celebrate the ladies. Ireland was, up till recently, a pretty heavily patriarchal society and the women's place and her work was considered to be in the home. This day was a day where, instead of focusing on the home and children, women got to go out visiting their friends or going out to a show or having afternoon tea. The men were expected to take care of the housework on this day, if none other.
Nowadays, in modern Ireland, it is still celebrated, and women take it as an opportunity to go for a spa day with their mam or a nice meal and a few drinks with friends. It's a chance to show the women in your life that you appreciate them, and all the tiny, thankless, unseen things they do.

(chu-lan-maria)  🎶  playlist ||一根菸的時間 Time for a cigarette
(PS. I don't own any music and songs right, I just make the playlist for listening easily and enjoy all musicians your works and love to share it only. all copyright belongs to musician & singer. If you want me do delete yours from the playlist, please tell me then I will do it. Blessings! Thanks! Lan~*)

New to Tumblr, going to start dumping some of the stone carving that I've done here.
This big slate carving is based on a design from the Book of Kells, all hand carved with hammer and chisels.

Leaping
Well, this has been on my mind since January and since it was still rattling around up there, I thought I might as well get it out and be done with it. This year – 2024 – is called Leap Year. What has been boggling my mind is: exactly WHAT are we leaping??? And, yes, I understand that the term Leap Year refers to the year when there is an additional day in February. And, so, this year we had 29…

Happy New Year's Eve!
In the words of the Von Trapp Family’s “Sound of Music” and their farewell song, “So long, farewell, auch wiedersehen, goodbye” to 2023, At midnight tonight, we’ll give a hearty welcome to 2024. Good-bye past and hello to the new that is in store for us. We are ready for the count-down! Strike up the band because I plan on singing new songs of great expectations for 2024, accompanied by…

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY
AAAAH. Tradition. The wearing of the green, parades, corned beef or ham and cabbage, potatoes and Irish Harp beer. So much tradition I can hardly stand it. But it’s all good, all fun and all steeped in history, if you can remember being taught that stuff. The feast of Saint Patrick’s Day is a Christian tradition which celebrates the faith being brought to Ireland. Observed since the 17th…

I hope everyone has a very blessed Imbolc. I shall be burning a candle in honour of our Goddess.

Imbolc shona daoibh! (happy Imbolc to you!) 🐄☀🌱
[Image ID: / A coloured sketch of a white calf. It has a golden triskele on its forehead, and its head is bent low to the ground. It stands in a patch of grass revealed by melting snow, dotted with yellow and orange flowers. Behind its head is a golden starburst that mimics the sun. The background is a grey-blue colour, and white text above the calf reads in a mediaeval font: imbolc shona daoibh! (Im-Olk Hunna Yeev) / End ID]
In many parts of Ireland it is believed that on Imbolc, Brigid will go from house to house with her favourite white cow to bless items left outside by the occupants 🌿

Note
what are your thoughts on your religion stealing every single one of its holidays from pagans? xo
That in order to relieve themselves of guilt and discomfort, white people create and believe narratives that deprive their European ancestors of any autonomy whatsoever. Casting their ancestors as victims of the church rather than active participants.
