Obviously plenty of issues with wicca but one thing I just don't understand is why they had to drag us into it? There are alternative english, non gaelic, holidays celebrated around those times if they were so set on the dates.

The fact that English people, who literally lived through Irelands war of independence decided they were going to slap gaelic names on their neo religion is so fucking tiring. Can they not just leave us alone for a minute.

And I understand that the mixing of 'druidism' and wicca in early stages had an impact, Nichols specifically and it wasn't until later wiccans realised Gardner had lied about the entire foundations of his religion.

(Any supposed "Scottish" past of these people is blatant Highlandism, that justifies nothing btw)

But to this day people are uncritically using the words imbolc, bealtaine, lughnasadh and samhain in a wicca context with no regard for the fact that people just stole from a culture their country had tried to decimate. Is there no thought into the appropriateness of the use of these holidays?

Lá Bealtaine, Lá Lúnasa and Oíche Shamhna were all still celebrated at this point too? While imbolc is presumably subsumed into Brigids day. There were real living people celebrating (and still celebrate) these holidays, they weren't for random English people to take and twist into a god and goddess sex metaphor.

I have personally never heard of people today trying to do something about this but I also would not frequent IRL wicca spaces. So those more in the know, is there any push or discussion about this?

anyway, modern au only child albert that was raised by his grandparents, and they are the most supportive people of all time.

his mamó kim brought him and race to their first pride parade wearing a shirt that said "the communal fairy grandmother" (she happily took pictures with people and gave out free hugs to them)

his grandad joey has never missed a single one of his dance recitals since he was a kid, and it is now tradition that they go out for ice cream afterwards.

albert brought jojo home from school once when they were younger and was like "this is my mamó, and the one watching the football is my grandad." and jojo was absolutely baffled because one set of his grandparents had already passed away, and the others lived miles away and albert just said "we can share!"

due to this, any friend of alberts is now their honorary grandchild, but they truly do not mind. finch has accidentally referred to kim and joey as his own grandparents on numerous occasions, and they have not once corrected him. they're just glad that albert has built up the family he didn't have as a kid, no matter how loud and chaotic they are.

guess who's late for day 2!! and 3!! i'll catch up this weekend :D anyways this is my newest oc, Fionn. he's from a setting where mythical creatures and anthropomorphic animals coexist, but only the mythical creatures can see each other's true forms. Fionn is a Dobhar-Chú, but to non-mythics he just looks like a massive leucistic otter. he's the gym teacher at small elementary school, and is bitter exes with the swim coach (who is an each-uisce)

talking to people about masters of the air and its truly fascinating how disappointed they were about biddick dying in ep 3. really wonder if the fairly long gap between filming and release ended up hurting the show in some weird way with some of the actors (austin butler and barry keoghan) having like career defining roles in the meantime which meant audiences had waaaayyy bigger expectations/biases etc

Minor throwaway sentence in a book on corruption I've just finished was talking about 1930s gangsters and about certain organisations in Chicago which the author stated were more ethnically diverse than the Italian mafia, and whose members were said to have included 'Irish, Welsh, Italian, and Jewish' gangsters.

Now call me sheltered but I've seen MANY Italian American gangsters immortalised in film, I've heard of the Jewish mob, and the police Irish American gangs but I have yet to see a movie about the Welsh mob. As a rule I don't go in for gangster movies but I feel there's an unfilled niche here and also I need more info.
