TwiFicmas23 Day 5: Smoke & Mirrors
Good evening!
Tonight is a snippet from an upcoming one-shot, Smoke & Mirrors. It's a canon AU where Alice ended up going South as soon as she wakes up, and ends up being a competing Southern Warlord. It's meant to be a fun little one shot, set around Breaking Dawn, but needs major edits and rewrites, so I thought a snippet from the OG draft might be fun.
I'm half asleep, so I'll bid you all adieu and I hope you enjoy this!
smoke & mirrors.
Here’s the thing about the Southern Wars.
You ended up knowing everyone who lives long enough. Jasper knows Matteo, Carmela, and Rodrigo far better than he’d like to know people he tried to kill for half a century. He knows Lyric from Baja is a chameleon who wefts and weaves herself into whatever army holds the strongest territory; he knows Tomas as someone who really needs to be put down for good but he’s just so likeable everyone ignores his less appealing ‘hobbies’. And Katya who has fought for seventy years yet never actually killed anyone (Matteo is a soft-touch when it comes to Katya, that’s an open secret.)
At any one time, he knows someone who can kill, kidnap, rob, acquire, destroy, or duplicate anything in the known world. He tries to keep most of that close to the vest, preferring for the Cullens not to know that if shit comes to shove, he can have Bella abducted and in a safe house in less than 12 hours without a single trace, let alone anyone linking it to the Cullens.
Hell, if Carlisle ever wanted a Pope’s skull to adorn his study, he knows a guy. It would cost a pretty penny and probably take the best part of a month, but he could make it happen. The same way he’s gotten more than just Cullen paperwork from Jenks; or that at least sixty percent of the cash he’s allocated annually goes towards helping those same old ‘friends’.
It should also be noted that ‘friends’ is used ironically - other than Peter or Charlotte, any one of those people would kill him without a second thought if he was no longer useful. He feels the same about them. At a certain point, all the shit they went through and survived created some strange kind of respect and understanding. Veterans on opposing sides of a war.
(It also needs to be noted that for all of the shit that has rained down on the family since Bella Swan tripped and stumbled into their lives, that he probably could have called in a favour for an extra set of hands. But Peter and Charlotte were unavailable, and calling in that kind of favour set a precedent he hadn’t wanted to deal with at the time, so he’d kept quiet and gotten the job done himself.)
Which is just a fancy way to say that when Irina bursts in and admits she told the fuckin’ Volturi about Renesmee, the Immortal Child, he’s already flipping through his mental Rolodex of assets to get them out of this mess. It’s a more practical option than, say, snapping Irina into bite-sized pieces to give her time to think about her actions.
This is a problem. A big one. The more he thinks about it, the worse it gets.
It’s the first public trial that the Volturi has held since the Wars (he was only a few years out of being a newborn, and he barely remembers in it through the haze of bloodlust and irritation, trying to keep the freshest newborns contained and civil as the Kings ruled Helena a dangerous criminal and scorched the entire coven from existence. He remembers Maria being quiet for a few days afterwards, but the specifics of the entire event were lost to him.)
And that trial was only Caius, Aro, Dimitri, and the Twins. The Cullens’ charges (exposing themselves with the van incident, telling Bella, Edward’s attempt at exposing himself in Volterra, the whole Victoria debacle, waiting more than a year to change Bella, Charlie Swan, and now a hybrid child) were… difficult to challenge.
The entire court was coming.
(Sometimes he wonders if his role in this family has become that of the fixer. The one that is constantly bailing out the sinking ship, patching holes, and making sure all arms and legs are inside the proverbial vehicle - St Cloud, Dell Rapids, Senoia… Thirty years of that and, well, he’s getting tired.)
He gets up and disappears when Irina arrives, make-up smeared and emotions pinging off the walls like super balls, even though he knows what’s coming. He can practically sense it now.
(The thing about the Southern Wars is that, even after you turn your back on it, you never seem to stop fighting some kind of battle.)
//
It’s less than six hours before everyone has to be informed of Irina’s faux pas, and it goes about as well as Jasper expected.
He sits on the stairs as Edward and Rose and Carlisle argue, Jacob making unhelpful comments as he eats some vile human snack, and Irina looks vaguely ill and he wonders what the fuck Irina was thinking. If she wanted answers, justice, she should have come straight to the Cullens. This wasn’t so much as overkill, as nuking the planet from space after an oil spill.
(He also wants to know how exactly she left Volterra to warn them. Did Aro dismiss her? Send her? Did she just slip out and hope no one noticed?)
The rot is truly set in with the Volturi; he’s heard Maria’s rants about them, about how power curdles and corrupts. How it becomes less about protection and more about control. And when you have vaults and vaults of money and jewels and artwork and books, you look for something much, much rarer and unique to collect. Something that cannot be bought or stolen. They are no one’s benevolent overlords, no loving fathers of their people - they are a bullet fired wildly into a crowd, striking down the slow, the ignorant, and the vulnerable.
Very, very rarely do the actually guilty fall. That’s why this is such a bitter pill to swallow, such a disaster - Aro is coming for a trial, with the biggest audience he can find, to cull the Cullens and pick over the carcass. Justice and honesty and truth have no place here.
(Helena was no criminal. Just trying to salvage a terrible situation her very best. Whomever fed her to the wolves was more of a criminal than Helena ever came close to being. She was nobody’s enemy.)
This is bad, very bad.
Emmett comes over to him, his normally jovial expression replaced with something that was both tired and solemn.
“This is a mess,” Emmett says, and that’s his brother. Always the diplomat.
This isn’t a mess. He can clean up messes.
He offers a nod, and they both look over as Rosalie sends something flying - an ugly ceramic egg the size of a soccer ball that is nobody’s favourite, so the only one who flinches is Jacob.
“We don’t have many options,” he finally says, and he feels the flutter of Emmett’s hope and relief against him; this is what his brother wants. Jasper’s bailed them out of the last… three of Edward’s debacles, of course the family veteran has an escape hatch already planned and built, a way that they get to keep their heads.
(He wants to warn Emmett, the eternal optimist that he’s really only flipping names over in his head, working out who will give them the best advantage. Who owes him and who he already owes and who is nearby and who he can get in touch with the fastest. Do they need witnesses or an army or some combination of both? There are a million balls in the air, even though the answer is right there because he wants to double check and make sure that he hasn’t missed anything - a better choice.)
He heaves a breath and he doesn’t want to do this.
Of all the old friends he could call on, she’s the name that is right below Maria’s on the list of people he doesn’t want to owe a favour to. Calling her or Maria in right now is the equivalent of hitting the big red self-destruct button.
But he continues to roll that choice around in his mind and it’s the right choice. She’s the right choice.
And even if he thinks that a couple of decades in the catacombs of Volterra would teach Edward and Bella to be a hell of a lot less selfish and self-absorbed (and let the kid be raised by someone with a little more life experience, like Rose or Esme), the rest of the family doesn’t deserve to go down with them. Stupidity isn’t a crime. Carlisle’s love for his son isn’t a crime.
“Let me make a call.”
—
Peter is glad to hear from him right up until Jasper explains why he’s calling - Edward, the child, Irina, the Volturi.
“Is now a good time to mention that Yuri’s set-up camp permanently?” Peter asks, the strain in his voice obvious.
No. No it’s absolutely not, but it puts more pieces into place, that maybe the Volturi are looking for more than to simply put the Cullens into their place. Yuri’s little clan of followers that ebbs and flows have transitioned from Hong Kong to Tokyo to Osaka. One of the great smugglers, he’d done deals with Maria for centuries and the fact that Yuri has left his home for America implies many, many things about the Volturi’s reach.
He wonders if Li Jie is even still in China. If Li Jie has fallen, that would explain a lot.
(Politics is a dirty word in their world. Carlisle refuses to engage in it, and he understands - sort of. For all their
“He run into any kind of trouble?” He finally asks.
“Not that he mentioned. Just said something about American hospitality. Just a heads up - he might need papers or shit. Where do you need me?”
That was Peter - and Charlotte - in a nutshell. There was nothing they wouldn’t drop to help, to swoop in with an extra set of hands.
“I need you to track someone down for me,” he says, leaning against the wall. “We’ll need you at the trial, but there’s someone who I need to make sure this…” Doesn’t turn into an irreversible shit-show. Remember when Carmela tried to take Baja, Peter? That’s small potatoes compared to what the Cullens have brought down around our ears. We need a hail-Mary, miracle kind of help.
He explains what he needs carefully; what direction he thinks might work the best. Hes going to need to blackmail and bribe Tomas to make an appearance because if it comes to a fight, Tomas will go down with teeth and nails still slashing and take a very pretty pound of flesh with him.
Peter is silent on the other end of the phone. “Major, you’re asking for a miracle,” he says finally. “No one has heard from her since she fucked off. If she’s still alive, she can’t possibly be in the US anymore. And I can tell you that she’s been written off as dead for decades by almost everyone.”
“I don’t believe that.” He can’t. Both Plan A and Plan B involve her presence, no one ever wielded an army like she did. He needs her insight, he needs her skill, and he needs her reputation. “And neither do you.”
Silence and the sound of someone fumbling at the phone.
“Jasper.” Charlotte’s on the phone now. “Peter’s being dramatic, we can look but we’re going to need…”
“I’ll transfer the cash straight away. We need the fastest possible turn around, Char. We don’t have enough time.”
Charlotte sighs. “We’ll do our best, Major.”
—
It’s two days later when some semblance of… well, not a plan, but a direction is coming together. Tracking down the right people was half the battle, but he was nearly certain that he’d get confirmation today.
The rest of the family knew he was working on something, some way to get them out of this mess that wouldn’t humiliate Aro, or call into question the validity of the laws as a whole. Carlisle was very clear that they didn’t want some kind of political uprising or rebellion. Just enough time to explain Bella’s pregnancy, confirm that it was entirely unplanned and not some kind of master plan, and part as friends.
Jasper wasn’t holding out much hope for that last part.
Gathered around the dining room table - the family’s war room, when such a thing was needed. Jacob was somehow still eating, and Irina had remained in Forks - she had clearly decided that Carlisle’s brand of ‘I’m not mad, just Disappointed’ was preferential to going back to Alaska, where Tanya and Eleazar would be waiting to rip her a new asshole - proverbially - for going anywhere near Italy. Let alone without even talking to the Cullens before she started throwing around wild accusations.
It had been a long week that was only going to get longer - which he could see in the tension of the rest of the family.
“The first thing you need to accept is that this isn’t a trial.” His voice is flat and unfriendly. The child is cradled awkwardly in Edward’s arms, holding onto some mercifully silent toy, fixated on it. He absently wonders if drowning it in the bathtub would be a suitable penance to stop Aro in his tracks.
But the look in Edward’s eyes at that stray thought is enough. And then Jasper wonders, idly, if this devotion and attachment to the child will last; after all, vampires don’t have offspring. They have no instinct for a dependent child - the connection between a vampire and their creator was nothing like that of parent and child (especially an infant), nor was the connection between coven members. There was every chance that any maternal connection to Renesmee that Bella had would fade after her newborn year, and decay the further she left her humanity behind.
If they survive this, it’ll be an interesting case study, if nothing else.
“There is every reason to assume that this ‘visit’ is intended to be an execution,” Jasper continues, and Esme flinches. “I can’t predict whether Aro will opt to sentence some of us, or all of us, or what his plan is. But the plan is for someone to die for this. To put us in our place. That is why he’s bringing an audience - to bear witness to our crimes. And before you say it Rose, we’re guilty by association - the fact we didn’t eliminate Bella after the van accident is a crime in Aro’s view.”
Rosalie frowned, and he could taste her worry on the air.
“Our best course of action is to gather our own witnesses so that the trial is fair,” he continued. “That the baby is not an Immortal Child, but someone who grows and evolves, and therefore can change and learn. And to remind all three of the Kings that Aro was aware of the van accident, Bella’s knowledge of us, and the incident with James when she was in Volterra. We were given permission to continue as we were to minimise notice from the community. We weren’t charged with any crimes then, and it would look… unseemly to retroactively charge us now.”
“So what do we do?” Jacob asks. Irina looks strained, her hands teasing at a piece of ribbon.
“I have a contact that I will be reaching out to,” he said grimly. “She’ll be an asset if she’s willing to help us and if I can find her - she’ll have contacts to other potential witnesses, insight into this visit from the Volturi, and stand as a completely neutral witness.”
“And a Southern Warlord,” Edward sounds aghast, and Bella scoops up the child, her hand smoothing down the red curls. “You’re bringing one of them here?”
“You aren’t considering bringing Maria to Forks?” Carlisle asked uneasily.
“That would be…” Rosalie began, already getting agitated.
“A slaughter,” Edward finished, and Jasper resisted the urge to roll his eyes at them. As if Maria didn’t have the control to move about the human world; generally, Maria only pulled a ‘Calgary’ when she was trying to make a point.
“It’s not Maria,” he said through clenched teeth. “I have some old contacts from the South who can assist us. I’ll need to be in Louisiana by Saturday morning to try and convince her.”
Carlisle still looked uneasy but Rosalie had backed off. Edward was still scowling.
“If you prefer, I can just drown it and hope that buys us some grace?” Jasper said, his tone prickly, and both Bella and Jacob let out sounds of horror - Bella thrusting the baby at Esme to try and approach Jasper with violence in her eyes, but Edward grabbed her before she could get any closer.
“That was unnecessary,” Esme said disapprovingly, her hand cupping the back of the child’s head.
“And dramatic,” Edward is gritting his teeth and resisting the urge to punch Jasper himself.
“I am trying to protect us,” Jasper replied shortly. “I am trying to get us out of this with minimal loss of life. Frankly, I don’t have much hope for Irina or Edward or Bella or … Renesmee, but if there is the slimmest possible chance that I can keep the rest of you alive and free, I will take it.”
Silence.
“I can get you a flight to New Orleans Friday night,” Rosalie said, and that thread of fear was back.
“Make it two,” Edward said, releasing Bella. “I’ll come with you."
“No.” Jasper said.
“Jasper, it might be wiser to go in pairs,” Carlisle said. “In these circumstances, I don’t think setting off alone is ideal.”
“No. It’s a bad idea.”
“Yes. You said it yourself - we have to convince her. If I know what she’s thinking, we can use it. And I want to meet our ‘saviour’,” Edward said, sarcasm and irritation pouring off him.
“She’s not known for playing nice with others, Edward,” Jasper felt tired, as if his brother was being as difficult as he knew how to be on purpose. “And she can sniff out an agenda before you’ve even opened your mouth. If you want someone to accompany me, Emmett’s the best choice.” Emmett wore his emotions on his sleeve, and the most complex agenda his brother had ever had was to replace Rosalie’s ruined Louboutins before she noticed they’d been destroyed.
Hell, he’d probably befriend her, and that could only help their cause.
“Edward is the best choice,” Carlisle said reluctantly. “He can give us insight, even if she refuses to help.”
Carlisle’s not wrong and Jasper hates it. She’s going to need delicate handling, and Edward rarely takes advice from anyone who isn’t Carlisle. The absolutely last thing they need is for Edward to make demands or threats and piss her off. Then they’ll be dealing with an angry veteran and the Volturi.
“Fine.” His tone is enough to let everyone at the table that he is not happy. “But I need to take the lead. Pissing her off with just make more trouble for us. And if we fuck this up, Maria is our next option. And you know Maria will want her pound of flesh if it works out in our favour.”
That is a proper threat, a tangible one that the entire family sans Bella feels the weight of; Irina looks wary and Jacob looks confused.
“We will follow your lead, Jasper,” Carlisle says finally, with resignation. “Edward will go with you.”
“The rest of you should reach out to any friends we have. Anyone who will witness the trial. No one is obliged to fight on our behalf or even stay - but they can meet Renesmee and see that she isn’t an Immortal Child. That we did not break the laws.”
He looks at them. “This isn’t so much about Renesmee or Edward and Bella. This is about the Volturi exerting their power. There is no justice in the Volturi, not anymore.”

Anymore thoughts on the Irina Civil War AU? I feel like there's a lot of angst involved for Isogai since his best friend and fellow class rep are on the opposing side, as well as the Terasaka gang being broken up, and to a lesser extent the Artist Trio.
Oooooh a Civil War AU ask!!!!! Yes I have a lot more thoughts!
And oh yeah, Isogai is definitely having a hard time through all of this. They’re his biggest supports, and he’s fighting against them...he lowkey feels betrayed.
Just a recap: this is why Isogai is on the “leave” side
As much as he values class harmony and giving people second chances, his family is his first and more important priority. And the thing is, Maehara and Kataoka respect that. They understand. But just because they do, doesn’t mean that they’ll lose their own personal values to follow Isogai. I think these three, esp Maeiso, will learn a really important lesson of boundaries in their friendships thanks to the civil war.
Ah...the Art Trio...this is kind of interesting because it’s basically Okajima alone on his side, and Mimura and Sugaya on the other...
But, he’s already sort of a third wheel to them anyways. Like in general, he’s left out more often than he’d like to admit.
I definitely think seeing his friends on the other side would amplify that sense of loneliness...poor Okajima...this arc would be so angsty for him omg. To the point where I can see him lowkey wanting to change his mind just before it starts or something...
I’d like to say there’s a bright side where he can rely on his other classmates...but it’s kind of hard when most of the class doesn’t really take him seriously. He’s the pervert, the comedy, the moodmaker...If he actually were upset about being left out, would anyone notice?
Maybe that can be his positive aspect of the arc. He finally opens up about how he feels, and why being alone without his two other friend feels so shitty... And then his team changes up how they act towards him, and Okajima is not alone anymore UwU
As for the Terasaka gang...
It’s kind of simple, I guess. Terasaka, Itona, and Takebayashi are on the “stay” side because they themselves have betrayed the class in some way, and so they want to give Irina a proper new chance. To share the compassion that was given to them.
Hazama, Muramatsu, Hara, and Yoshida are on the “leave” side for overlapping reasons. Hara is overprotective of her classmates, and considers their safety most important. Muramatsu is really panicked ever since that night against Reaper...like I’m thinking bad anxiety. Yoshida and Hazama are supporting them, but also thinking more logically. There’s more pros than cons to Irina leaving.
So yeah...the squad is pretty divided. But I imagine Terasaka, Itona, and Takebayashi to be the types who are steadfast in their values. They’ll respect what their friends think, but they’re not changing their personal stance. They feel like they owe it to everyone to be open-minded, and have a new perspective.
Has some angst potential given their strong bond. But not too bad in my opinion, because of that reason. The squad are a family. They’ll always be there for each other. They’ve stood by each other for so long. One disagreement won’t change that at all. They’ll get through this and be stronger in the end.
Hope this explained ok! Thanks for asking! <3

AU where Civil War is about Kayano
It never made sense to me why the class forgave Kayano so easily. It was as if she was forced to be evil for five minutes, not that she had voluntarily injected herself with the tentacles. Didn't the class feel betrayed that Kayano had basically blindsiding them? That they were interacting with a fake person the whole time?
It feels like they were invalidating Kayano's Akari identity and her entire revenge arc- it felt like it had no consequences. The class never treated it seriously. They saw her as sweet Kayano who had an angry episode, not as vengeful Akari who had acting for almost an entire year.
And this AU would make sense too- after Kayano's arc in December, the class would be divided on whether to trust her or not, resulting in the Civil War in Janurary. (In addition, it makes me ill to think some of them might actually want to kill their beloved mentor figure, so I think it would be nice to reimagine Civil War.)
Here are the “teams”:
Team Trust- let Kayano stay in 3-E
Members: Nagisa, Sugino, Kanzaki, Hara, Itona, Terasaka, Muramatsu, Takebayashi, Kataoka, Kurahashi, Yada, Okajima, Sugaya (13 members)
Team Distrust- kick Kayano out of 3-E
Members: Karma, Okuda, Nakamura, Mimura, Isogai, Chiba, Hayami, Kimura, Maehara, Okano, Yoshida, Hazama, Fuwa (13 members)
(Note: characters’ views are not my views. Because this post deals with trust issues, some characters’ reasoning may seem offensive and even dismissive. Remember they’re all just teenagers trying to solve a difficult and sensitive problem.)
(Also note: characters’ views are not solely based on canon implications, they’re also based my own headcanons :D)
TEAM NEUTRAL
Kayano- She knows she’s done a terrible thing, and she sincerely apologizes. She admits she stopped wanting to kill Korosensei months ago, but her bloodlust forced her to continue. She also states she was pretending to be nice in the first few months, but claims she started to be genuinely nice afterwards. She understands how some people might refuse to forgive her, and while she is saddened, she totally understands and respects their opinion. She is glad for her friends’ support, but ultimately decides to leave the matter to the class. She doesn’t want to destroy the class’ bond further.
The teachers- They understand both sides of the debate and want to help everyone in the class. If Team Trust wins, so be it. They’re perfectly fine with students requesting to avoid Kayano for projects and assassinations. If Team Distrust wins, they’ll make sure to keep in contact with Kayano even after she leaves 3-E. After all, despite everything, she’s still their student. (And Korosensei’s NEVER going to let Aguri’s little sister go.)
Ritsu- Like in canon, she does not fully understand the human emotions involved, and hence decides not to interfere. She helps to coordinate the war.
TEAM TRUST
Nagisa- He believes even if Kayano was “acting”, she still gave them fun memories, and it “wasn’t entirely an act”. He is inclined to believe people can change, and his friend Kayano deserves a second chance. In addition, Kayano helped to make Nagisa feel comfortable with his long hair (she gave him his pigtails), and Nagisa can never forget that.
Sugino- Like Nagisa, he believes Kayano deserves a second chance. He’s a bit shaken by her “betrayal”, but thinks the entire class (Kayano included) should get along and work towards their goal together. He’s also a bit of an optimist and thinks it’ll all get better eventually.
Kanzaki- She understands the need to have dual identities, and thus emphasizes with Kayano. She believes communication can solve the problem and Kayano should be accepted in 3-E. After all, Kayano, with her traumatic past, needs friends and support too.
Hara- She staunchly believes kicking Kayano away will do no good. Communication is the only way out, and if Kayano’s gone, how will the class and Kayano effectively communicate? In her opinion, they can’t just ignore the problem by banishing Kayano. Besides, she sort of sympathizes with Kayano, plus Kayano’s her friend, so she’s a little biased. Most importantly, Hara is genuinely sweet and kind- she can never hate or “abandon” anyone.
Itona- He’s a little complicated. He hates being used as a pawn, but he understands the tentacles’ influences. He can’t excuse how she voluntarily injected the tentacles for revenge, but he emphasizes with her. And he thinks it would be cruel of him to leave her alone when a) they both understand the painful and manipulative quality of the tentacles and b) the class accepted him even though he nearly killed them. He keeps his distance around her, but in the end, he stands with Team Trust. He thinks it’s the least he can do for a fellow ex-tentacle user.
Terasaka- Originally, he’s SUPER mad. Like, he just wanted to PUNCH Kayano. But after thinking about it for weeks, he realizes the class forgave a) him b) Itona and c) Irina when all three of them put the class in danger. He thinks it would be hypocritical for him to yeet Kayano out of the class. While he doesn’t want to forgive Kayano immediately, he admits she deserves a second chance like he, Itona, and Irina had been kindly given by 3-E. Terasaka has a strong sense of morals (especially after he was manipulated by Shiro), and would hate to be hypocritical. He joins Team Trust mostly due to his beliefs and morals, not because of Kayano.
Muramatsu- He used to totally support Team Distrust, but after talking to Itona and Terasaka, he started to see things in a new light. It’s not peer pressure, but Muramatsu has to admit kicking Kayano out doesn’t solve ANYTHING- it just adds to miscommunication and people will just continue to suffer. Besides, like Itona and Terasaka, he understands the class has forgiven others before, so it doesn’t seem fair they’re so willing to exclude Kayano from their trademark generosity.
Takebayashi- He used to be neutral, but like the other members of the Terasaka Gang, he realizes 3-E is actually a forgiving class. After all, they forgave Takebayashi after he betrayed them and joined 3-A, and Takebayashi is immensely grateful for their support. Hence, he thinks Kayano doesn’t deserve being kicked out of 3-E.
Kataoka- She doesn't believe in “abandoning” Kayano- she’s a leader, and leaders don’t abandon anyone. She totally understands how some cannot forgive Kayano, but somehow, kicking Kayano out of 3-E doesn’t sit well with her. Hence, she joins Team Trust.
Kurahashi- She continues to deeply care for Kayano and believes she needs support. Plus, being kicked out of a class Kayano enjoyed/enjoys being in would just hurt her even more, and Kurahashi doesn’t want that.
Yada- Like Kurahashi, she just wants to help Kayano, even if it means getting to know her from square one. Yada is kind- she doesn’t want to abandon Kayano or make her feel even worse.
Okajima- He’s actually a loyal person who deeply enjoys the bond 3-E shares- or used to share. He foolishly wants it to go back to the way it was, but he knows it’s impossible. But if everyone works towards it, they can surely achieve something close to it, right? Maybe it’s a bit idealistic, but Okajima believes in that hope.
Sugaya- He doesn’t believe in kicking Kayano out of 3-E. He’s receptive and understands Team Distrust’s point of view, but he also believes the other team should be a little more open minded.
TEAM DISTRUST
Karma- He despises manipulation. He hates how Kayano pretended to be innocent and harmless when she was in fact a skilled assassin. Karma cannot trust and forgive Kayano immediately; he wants nothing to do with her. He is also pissed off by Nagisa and thinks he’s selfish. Just because Kayano gave Nagisa happy memories doesn’t mean she should be allowed in the class- there are a lot of people who don’t feel happy about her at all.
Okuda- She trusted and loved Kayano, and was horribly shaken by her identity reveal. Okuda ends up with serious trust issues, to the point thinking about Kayano makes her physically ill. She has panic attacks and struggles with sleeping. She still wishes the best for Kayano, but doesn’t want anything to do with her anymore. She also oesn’t want Kayano’s apologies. In addition, it sickens her to see her other friends (eg. Nagisa, Kanzaki) stick up for Kayano, so she avoids them and sticks to Karma and other Team Distrust members.
Nakamura- Similar to Karma, she cannot forgive Kayano immediately. She might seem casual and chill about it, but she actually spent several nights thinking about it. She’s a little shaken, but in the end, she coolly decides Kayano leaving would be the best option.
Mimura- He personally wants to give Kayano a second chance, but he values class harmony above all. Letting Kayano stay would cause a lot of problems, and if she left, her friends could contact her without involving the entire class (including people who were deeply hurt by Kayano). So, logically, with the class’ best interests in mind, he decides to go for Team Distrust.
Isogai- His reason is similar to Mimura’s. He genuinely likes Kayano and would like her to be redeemed, but he’s the class leader. He wants to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable in 3-E. And if letting Kayano stay in 3-E makes other people uncomfortable and panicked, it’s not a good choice. As painful as it is, he joins Team Distrust for 3-E.
Chiba and Hayami- They value trust immensely, so they feel betrayed and blindsided. However, they continue to be professional, and unlike Okuda, they can work smoothly with Kayano. Personally, they think it’s best if Kayano leaves the class. Surprisingly (or not), Hayami is the more hesitant one. Her family has never been around much and so she emphasizes with Kayano a little bit, but not enough for her to leave Team Distrust.
Kimura- He wants justice. To him, letting Kayano stay implies she doesn’t have to deal with serious consequences. Consequences are needed, or else it isn’t fair- it isn’t fair to Kayano, isn’t fair to the class. Besides, he sees how his other classmates are hurting because of Kayano, so he believes Kayano should leave 3-E for the greater good.
Maehara- At first, he tries to forgive Kayano. He truly does. But the more he thinks about it, the more he finds the idea of manipulation and pretending to be someone else unsettling. Like VERY unsettling (even if he knows it's due to the tentacles). Maybe he's especially sensitive due to his (failed) romantic relationships, but he cannot really trust Kayano anymore. He's hesitant to say it at first, but after discovering a couple of his friends feel the same, he joins Team Distrust.
Okano- Similar to Maehara, she tries to forgive Kayano, but the more she thinks about it, the weirder she feels. And she hates it because she just wants things to be simple, but it's not simple and she doesn't know what to do, so maybe Kayano should just leave and give the class peace and quiet to sort things out. She knows she'll learn to forgive Kayano someday and be friends with her again, but she cannot do it now, so ultimately, she currently stands with Team Distrust.
Yoshida- At first, he and Terasaka and Muramastu were on Team Distrust, but then they changed sides. Suddenly, Yoshida feels like he’s alone in his beliefs (he is, in fact, Not). Yoshida might not speak much, but he is actually rather disturbed and scared by the entire Kayano incident. And because most of his friends appear to be “pro-Kayano”, Yoshida wonders if he’s the bad guy. In reality, he doesn’t want any harm to come upon Kayano, he’s just... scared. And confused. The other Team Distrust members validates his feelings, leading Yoshida to trust Team Distrust (ha) and ends up joining the team.
Hazama- She is disturbed by Kayano’s betrayal, and while she doesn’t hate or fear Kayano, she doesn’t want to deal with Kayano. She’s a little complicated, because while Hazama understands Kayano’s dark ideas of revenge, Kayano has hurt and scarred other people, and Hazama cannot excuse that and pretend it never happened. Besides, she knows Yoshida is feeling like shit, and decides to join Team Distrust due to personal beliefs and to make her friend Yoshida feel better.
Fuwa- At first she’s fine with the whole thing, and she believes proper communication can help to ease tensions. Plus, Kayano’s her friend! Again, Fuwa’s a little complicated. But after a while, her overactive imagination (which may or may not have been encouraged by reading manga) causes her to wonder if EVERYONE in her life is lying. Obviously, she knows this isn’t the case, but it causes her so much fear, she starts to subconsciously avoid Kayano (the source of her trust issues). While she seeks to mend relations with Kayano, she ultimately decides it’s best if she takes a break from Kayano at the moment.
Phew! This was a rather long post, and it turned into a character study midway :P If anyone has their own interpretations/thoughts, feel free to reblog and add! :D
(Thanks to Discord friends for discussing with me :D)

How about Yukiko Kanzaki for that ask meme you did? :)
hella rad ヽ(⌒∪⌒)ゝsure, why not?
what i like about them: she’s straightforward + calm, holy shit - for someone who looks so prim and proper, she actually smiled while she flipped the bird at her father + openly disagreed with takaoka. she’s got some spunk in her despite being such a yamato nadeshiko - bonus points since she’s a gamer chick lol
what i dislike about them: ??? i honestly can’t place anything here, and it’s not because of my bias to her - it’s more of because as much as she gets more spotlight compared to her other classmates, the scenes that show her still don’t really focus on her that much, so i honestly don’t have a clear picture of her character. heck - the other bits and pieces of her personality (and the rest of the cast) you only get to learn through the additional materials!
favorite moment: the civil war arc, hands down. i think i wouldn’t have paid much attention to her if this arc didn’t happen! it’s kinda a shame that she got eliminated quickly after her 3-kill combo, but i think it’s amazing that she was able to get to 3 people by just moving quickly as compared to nagisa’s 4-kill combo done in one sweep through good timing.
least favorite moment: uhhh… nah??? same reasons as the dislike portion.
a situation with this character that i want to see explored more: i want to see more of her juvenile phase, but maybe her daily family situation i want to see??? maybe when her grandmother was still around, or maybe something with her older brother? i still find it funny that her bro’s such a mama’s boy tho lol
an interesting au for this character: an au where everything remains the same even in the future except that… nurse yukiko kanzaki secretly sidelines as an assassin by night - nobody of class 3E knows about this, but her increasing reputation in the shadows eventually gets karasuma + irina’s attention, and eventually their pursuit. somewhere along the way, class e gets into the mix and the big question is: what made someone like yukiko continue the path of an assassin??? this is this is literally impossible considering how yukiko actually is, but heeey it’s an au!
a crossover: i struggle at thinking of crossovers… huh, but a persona 5 crossover would definitely peg her on the priestess / empress arcana.
otp: karma - to be fair i shipped this before the civil arc panels came to be, i’m crying
other ships: isogai // gakushuu
brotp: kayano // okuda // rio
notp: none that i can think of.
assortment of headcanons:
her being good with games is no joke??? like it only takes her a few seconds to get into a game and she can smoothly maneuver herself without problems + walkthroughs??? but she isn’t the type to rush through games either, she also takes her time playing and appreciating game mechs + bonuses + art & bgm + all that.
it was just shown for kicks during the exam but she can actually wield a naginata well thanks to her granny - tbh granny’s probably the one who brought video games into yukiko’s life bc she’s awesome that way
while she won’t be using them ever anyway, yukiko’s one of those class e students who still kinda retain their assassination skills - it’s probably bc some of the skills they learned are still practical in nature, so she still practices them as a result. she still also keeps a anti-koro gun with her - sometimes its just kept in her drawer, sometimes she tags it along for... reasons
she tells her patients stories about koro-sensei to cheer them up sometimes and its surprisingly works - those stories were meant to make them feel better but boy does she feel really happy herself when she tells tales about a damned yellow octopus
her brother asks her sometimes for love advice... and surprisingly, it works??? she also helps her brother out with his wardrobe bc he has no idea how to dress up, honestly - on shopping trips, they even end up buying more stuff for her brother than herself lol
#anon#askdfghjl#sorry anon i know your ask arrived earlier but#it drowned in the queue lol#but thanks rly i didn't see this coming!#it's pretty ambitious to ask that every character in a long series would have chara dev#but matsui touched up on them a bit and that's good enough i guess!

UwU would like to hear your thoughts on Irina civil war
Nao! (I’m so sorry, this is so late. It got buried in my drafts ihhhhh)
Ah yes: one of my favorite Civil War concepts 😤
So basically the class would be split in:
A) Allow Irina to stay in the class. She’s young, has lived a very traumatized life...she deserves a second chance.
B) Hell no. She tried to kill us, she betrayed us. I don’t feel comfortable being around her.
I mean, those are the basics. All of this is way more nuanced than that.
Side A would bring up the argument that Irina was stuck in a tough position herself. She was heartbroken, vulnerable, and you can’t exactly say no to the Reaper. He would have killed her immediately. She was trying to protect herself too.
Side B would say to keep in mind that things had gone well for few months...like Irina was getting adjusted to the class and truly seemed like she cared for them. And then she betrayed them...they almost died. That 180 switch in how she treated them...how can they trust her again?? How do they know this won’t happen again no matter what she says??
Both sides have understandable views on the matter. Unfortunately they both feel that the other is either invalidating their feelings...or being plain cruel.
THE SNIPERS ARE SPLIT UP FOR ONCE OOOOOOOOHHHHH. Yeah I bet y’all weren’t expecting that hehehe.
Side A: Irina, stay with us!
Her trusted students: Yada and Kurahashi. They both are fiercely protective of her return to the class and are the most vocal in their opinions.
Terasaka...he was the first one to forgive her in canon and I think that’s very true to his character. After his redemption, he wants to give others a chance...just like how everyone gave him one.
In a similar vein to him, Kayano also knows that she’s far from being a perfect person...in fact the guilt from the tentacles is always in the back of her mind, even if her desire for revenge far outweighs it. She believes it’s only fair to give Irina another chance.
Also similar to both of them is Itona, who also feels weighed down at times by his past actions. He knows he had a rocky start to the class...and so he feels it’s not really his place to just write Irina off. He feels a bit of solidarity between their experiences as well: they’re pretty similar ngl.
Okano, Kataoka, and Nakamura also were some of Irina’s fave students. And although they don’t feel as strongly as Yada and Kurahashi, they are attached to her...and want her to stay as their teacher in the family they’ve built in 3-E.
With Kanzaki...she’s naturally an open-minded person. And in regards to this, I think she could easily find it in herself to forgive Irina and understand why it all happened. She’s good at including every detail, analyzing situations and seeing things from Irina’s point of view. (Haha our literature nerd cutie)
Takebayashi has a similar case to many above: he’s betrayed the class himself (although on a way lesser scale). But he gets it: and he thinks Irina deserves the same kindness that was shown to him.
Maehara and Okajima are both pretty lighthearted and forgiving guys. This situation hits them both hard and they have a difficult time deciding...but ultimately they believe Irina really does care for the class. And that the last months they spent with her meant something.
Kimura...has a somewhat skewed sense of justice, due to personal things (cough his dad cough). And he does A LOT of reflection after everything. And as scary as it was...he decides that Irina can redeem herself. Even though he hates her boob lessons...she’s still his teacher who’s taught their class so much and was apart of their family.
Chiba is a naturally kind and empathetic person. I think once he really sits down and processes what Irina went through, the logistics of the situation, just so many nuances...he can find it in himself to give her a second chance.
Side B: Irina, get out of here!
Ooh, this is gonna catch you off guard. But yes, Nagisa, Sugino, and Hara are anti-Irina. The latter two are kind and empathetic people yes...but they’re also both fiercely protective of their classmates/friends. And in this situation, the safety of their friends would definitely be more important than Irina’s feelings. They’d see her as a threat.
For Nagisa...I think the experience of dealing with 2.0 hit him harder in a different way. He saw how Reaper tried to break Kayano’s ribs. That’s his best friend...he felt so angry and hurt in this situation, WE SAW. That’s why I truly believe Nagisa would be less than forgiving towards Irina, who aided in hurting him and his friends.
Hayami gets hurt in a different way in this situation...she’s gotten taken advantage of and never allowed to express her dissent in anything for SO LONG. And now after finally building confidence in 3-E...she’s supposed to just let their traitor teacher come back?? And act like she’s totally fine?? Hell no, she’s not.
Karma is pretty self-explanatory lmao. He really has a near-impossible time trying to forgive her and feel comfortable in the class again. He’s on high-alert all the time and feels protective over his friends... Like this kid has bad trust issues in general, there’s no way he can ever feel totally fine with Irina again let’s be real.
Okuda was legitimately terrified for her life that night with Reaper. And she never ever wants to feel that paralyzing sense of fear again. She also has a hard time being around Irina again.
Isogai! Surprise haha. There’s lots of angst with this one. The class could’ve died that night partly because of Irina’s actions. And he can’t forgive that easily. Like he has an impoverished family to think about. His sick mom and siblings need him. He’s the main provider at home. If he died that night because of Irina...his family would just break apart. And thinking about such awful possibilities cements Isogai’s opinion that she needs to leave. They’ll be fine without her.
Sugaya, Muramatsu, and Mimura all have pretty much the same view. They were terrified for their lives, are pissed that she did that, etc. They’re slightly torn since they’d like the class to go back to normal but...it needs to be addressed.
Fuwa kinda was brought back down to reality after all that. Like yes it was kind of a cool experience to talk about, like action-packed. But once the adrenaline left, it hit her how much danger she was truly in. Fuwa wants adventure, but not at the cost of her safety or others.
Hazama and Yoshida are on the same wavelength...they’re partly there to support Muramatsu and Hara, and also because Irina leaving is the safe way out. Like logically speaking...the woman is an assassin. She’ll just move on with her life, they’ll be safer, etc. So much more good to come out of it.
Ritsu remains neutral, just like she does in canon.
Korosensei and Karasuma both step back and decide to let the students figure it out, having trust in their decisions...and because it’s ultimately an experience that only the students have shared. It’s not their place to dictate how the kids feel. They both push aside their personal feelings about Irina to focus on the kids, who are top priority.
Irina is...trying her best to keep a cool face. A small deep part of her is on the defensive, wanting to continue to prove herself as a teacher and assassin. But the majority of her understands how they feel and respects that completely. She mentally prepares herself to leave the class and forget the kids forever...even though it’ll be so hard.

The civil war over Irina?a CONCEPT! What is Karasuma feeling over all that? Since he probably realised he does kinda have feelings for Irina at that point? Between what two students will the final show down be between?
Ooooh interesting you bring these up!
Karasuma definitely has complicated feelings, and I think this arc would be just as important for him as it is for Irina and the class.
For the first time in his life, he truly would be torn between professionalism and finally opening his heart.
At this point in this year, being in 3-E and teaching them, working with Koro and Irina...Karasuma has steadily changed. He’s become softer. But nothing has really pushed him to lose his “stoic mature” nature.
Until now.
One one hand, Karasuma respects his student’s feelings. He understands that they’re scared and he feels terrible about it. They were never supposed to be in danger. He tries to convince himself that it’ll be fine if she leaves, they’ll carry on with the mission as usual...
But he can’t quite think like that. He’s grown to have a fondness for Irina, the Reaper arc just made it clear to himself. He sees how she interacts with the kids, being like a big sister to them. He sees how she truly cares...
He knows that she has the potential to be a better person and he really does want to be on her side...he wants to try and see what kind of future they can have together.
In this situation, Karasuma wouldn’t be able to voice his thoughts as all teachers are supposed to stay neutral. But before the Civil War begins, he talks to Irina privately.
He apologizes for his “rejection,” and lets her know that he has faith in her. That she’s proved herself to be a good teacher, she deserves more time. But it’s up to the students first and foremost. Irina agrees with him but then-
Listen.
KARASUMA SHOOTS HIS SHOT
He makes some kind of lowkey, usual “Karasuma-typical” statement like “But if you do leave...let’s get some coffee together sometime.” “Or don’t think you’re getting rid of me that easily.”
YES THIS EARLY. HE CONFESSES BECAUSE NOW THERE’S A CHANCE SHE COULD LEAVE HIS LIFE AHHHHHH
And Irina is shook! But she can’t process it because then the civil war begins.
But afterwards, they lowkey start dating hehehe. They take it slow, and their relationship definitely picks up more once the year comes to more of an end.
Ah, as for your second question:
Sniper Finale. Chiba (stay) vs Hayami (leave)
I’m not a huge Chibahaya shipper, but I think this would be amazing for a few reasons. For once, the Snipers would be split and we get better ideas of they are individually, rather than a team. It would be so badass...tbh I’m not sure of the logistics of how they’d go about this, especially since everyone would wanna take them out first. But let’s say they survive until the end. I think it would be a really cool game of chase, as both of them try to use the mountain to their advantage. Hayami would get to show off her close-combat skills and great kinetic vision. Chiba would get the chance to branch off and show other assassin skills, especially using his math skills and making calculations and such.
And emotionally, there’d be some drama. They both accuse each other of not understanding them, since this whole thing cuts close to home for both.
Hayami has always let people walk all over her, never able to stand up for herself. Now that she’s gotten a purpose and confidence in 3-E, she’s supposed to still be like that?? Let Irina stay when she’s wronged them?? Hayami just wants her voice to be heard for once, to feel like she matters more than just what her talent and good grades are.
Chiba genuinely believes in second chances and letting people redeem themselves if they want to. He doesn’t think of it as “letting Irina take advantage of their kindness” but more just extending a hand to someone who made a mistake. For most of his life, people always took a glance at him and made negative assumptions. He wasn’t given a chance. And he’ll be damned before he does the same to others.
In the end, Chiba wins of course because we need Irina to stay haha. But the Snipers have reached catharsis and gain a better understanding of each other. And their teamwork, chemistry as partners and friends, definitely improves UwU
I hope this all made sense sdhbdfdsjkdshds. Thank you for asking and showing interest in the AU!! <3

Dont know if your still want asks, but what about more on Irina Cival War? Some points you want to talk about but havnt gotten to? Or maybe what about just stuff about the class 3-E teachers plus Aguri? What mischief is brought about by them?
I love the 3-E faculty so much. I’ll make a separate post for them in the future, someone please remind me UwU. Here’s one I made a while ago, though!
Oooh so about Civil War:
I’m currently still working out the “plot” and the order of the attacks, like who gets who out.
But someone else ( @heavenlyfury ) brought up the advantage that Red Team has in this version... like a massive advantage since Karma, Isogai, Hayami, and Nagisa are on the same team...against Irina.
Now is a good time to tackle this.
I think the concept of Civil War alone allows for an expansion on every individual’s abilities, and what they contribute to the class. Like in canon, we saw many of the students we formally deemed “average” to show their talents and surprise everyone.
In this AU, I don’t think Karma would take the reins alone as strongly as he did in canon. Like I don’t know if this makes sense, but it doesn’t hit him as personally? Karma just wants to guarantee his classmate’s safety, and recieve an acknowledgement that their trust was broken, as a collective whole.
I think Isogai would definitely be more of a leader this time around, like not just as a harmonious one. No, this man would go full commander, but still in a fair way, of course. He’s a cooperative person, but this whole thing hits close to home. He wouldn’t really get the chance to do his own personal attacks on anybody though. He would be more strategic and relegate people to different tasks, make plans, etc.
In this scenario, I feel like Nagisa and Sugino would be too upset to think as clearly as they did in canon. Neither of them are leader candidates in this AU, even though they certainly can be great leaders. They do take out a couple people each, and Nagisa does get to show off his assassin talent. But he is unable to progress because he gets taken out...by Kayano.
Now on the other team:
We have some aces here too. Don’t worry, they won’t be going down without a fight. The ones that come to my mind are Kataoka, Okano, Kayano, Kanzaki, Chiba, and Maehara.
A group of people who either specialize in close-combat, or long-range assasinations.
In this AU (aka my brain) Kanzaki and Okano especially get to show off their insane talent more. They’re not the cuties they are in canon, they’re way more badass and cutthroat. I really want to emphasize on Okano’s full-body strength and climbing capabilities, as well as the stealth potential with her. For Kanzaki, I just want her to go wild and show off her skills, especially the ones gained from video games.
Nakamura is also on this team, and we can’t forget, this girl is just as sharp and sly as Karma can be. She was his right-hand man in canon for a reason. Now in this AU, they’re going against each other and I love it. A battle of the wits. She definitely takes on the role of being strategist for their team.
Of course, Kataoka is leader. And she is a total badass, determined to lead her team to victory.
Oh, I almost forgot my girls Yada and Kurahashi! I absolutely would love to include a moment somewhere in this AU where they use their acting skills to dupe a member of the other team and get a kill in.
Before I forget to mention this, Kayano also gets a moment to show off some strength. But before she does, there might be a semi-emotional confrontation scene between her, Nagisa, and maybe Sugino. She’s the one to take them both out, I’m thinking.
And it’ll all end in a sniper showdown between Chiba and Hayami.
Basically, it seems as though there’s a big difference in strength between the teams, but there sorta isn’t. Both teams have their strengths, and they know how to cleverly use them. That said, the Blue Team is definitely still seen as underdogs in the beginning. But they quickly turn the tides around.
Hnnnn this AU is lacking the “big picture” kind of vibe that was in canon, and I feel kinda bad about that. There’s a lot more emphasis on inter-connected issues, and personal dynamics at hand. But I still love those a lot, and I think they deliver a different type of drama in writing, one that’s just as important in my opinion.
Thank you for the ask!!

AssClass Recon Team AU
Otherwise known as a team I made up
I CANNOT BELIEVE I NEVER TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE.
I was looking at my super old AssClass docs from 2019 and found one of my favorite ideas that I somehow forgot 😭
Basically: I made up a team consisting of the students with the canonically highest stats in scouting and info-gathering
These students are Takebayashi, Kimura, Itona, Okajima, and Okano. I left out Nagisa and Ritsu on purpose (I’ll explain later)
Under the cut has all the info. Please humor me guys haha
Okano technically doesn’t have a 5 like the others do (she has a four), but I pretended she does because my girl needs SOMETHING ok??? She can’t just be good at kicking people ahem canon ahem. She’s the only female student who doesn’t specialize in a category so I gave her this.
Anyways moving on.
Karasuma put these kids together, but it was technically Irina who came up with the idea in the first place. She was talking about how she nearly got into trouble with a recon team once on a mission, and how efficient “those damn bastards were.” Then she offhandedly mentioned how 3-E might be good at that. Then Karasuma was like 🤯 big brain time
Then he assembled Class E’s Recon Team.
I know in canon, the Art Trio sort of are shown to have this role.
But I’d to emphasize that this group of kids are better suited for information-gathering, scaling and sneaking into places, taking out security ok that’s a lil intense but you get the point lmao
They kind of do the prep-work in a sense. And then other members of the class follow out commands, lead, etc
Roles:
Takebayashi:
Leader, Medical Expert, Explosives Expert, researching skills
(Yes, Leader Takebayashi because I genuinely believe he has the potential. And it would lead to a very nice arc about gaining confidence in himself.)
He pretty much handles anything science-related, as well as finding info on anything. He also can retain information the best.
Okano:
Hand-to-Hand Combatant, stealth skills, ability to scale a wide range of surfaces, sneak into places, disarm anyone
She handles much more of the physical aspect of things on this team, given that she’s an amazing fighter and without a doubt the best amongst them. She uses her gymnastic skills to get to places, and climb anywhere. Also has amazing night vision, which comes in handy.
Kimura:
Scout, fastest runner, acts as a diversion, good agility, stealth, dexterity, knowledge of how to use radio equipment and basic weapons
Listen I know this sounds bad lmfao. “Knowledge of weapons” dhdhhdjejdd but both his parents are police officers so he definitely has learned some things. He absolutely might be one of the best when it comes to handling radio/transmission stuff. And he can use his basic knowledge of weapons/combat so he’s prepared to avoid/dodge it somehow.
Kimura is definitely the best when it comes to diversions. He can outrun basically anyone, and he’s so naturally annoying he can provoke people lmao.
Itona:
Mechanic, Engineer, Inventor, knowledge of how things work/are made, able to create helpful tools like a robot, can fix things, etc
We already know this boy is so talented at what he does haha. In canon, there are plenty of examples alone. But yeah, his main job is to invent things that can infiltrate anywhere and gather info like that.
Okajima:
Spotter, knowledge of how security cameras work and how to avoid them, stealth skills, wide range of view and focus
Listen in my AU, Okajima gets a good arc where he has grown from using these skills to be a perv, and instead is a valued member of the class and talented assassin.
So yeah, I’m sticking mostly to canon with this one. He’s mainly a spotter and is tasked with catching anything, like hidden cameras. He can also lowkey hack into them, if needed. He’s like their watch guy, of sorts. He’s also very sneaky and is good at not being caught, when he’s really concentrating.
Honorary Members:
I know Nagisa and Ritsu both have a 6 in this category, and are the best in the class. And that’s kind of why I didn’t include them. I think both their skillsets are different and more advanced than these kids. Also...
Nagisa kind of works better on his own. That’s like his whole Assassin thing. He gathered info on Koro by himself, he handles most things on his own because it’s his style. It’s how he’s most efficient. So he’ll help out the team from time to time, but yeah. Also he specializes in body language, which is different than them.
Ritsu is just so knowledgeable and skilled in a lot of things. I think her abilities would be spread across the class, helping everyone in some way. She wouldn’t stick to a particular group if she’s able to do so much more. So yes, she’ll help them a lot but she’s there for the whole class.
And...I know Mimura’s stand-out trait in Civil War was labeled as “reconnaissance” but he has a very low score in this category compared to the other kids. And that’s why he’s an honorary member, but not really apart of them.
Team Dynamics:
I will make a longer post about this, but to sum it up kinda:
Itona is in charge of the one braincell they all share.
Kimura and Okajima are clowns and usually the ones who lighten the mood
Okano has beaten them all up and she’ll do it again
Takebayashi is the quietly chaotic one, usually makes backhanded remarks which only Itona with catch lmao
They are one short as hell group. Takebayashi takes a lot of pride in being the tallest...until Okano and Kimura tag-team to knock him down
Itona and Okajima.......yeah, don’t worry, Okano is there to beat them up if they say even one perverted word
When Okano and Kimura are on the same page, everyone is scared
They don’t really respect Takebayashi as leader lmao, in fact he’s the number one teasing target.
Itona isn’t treated as baby as usual in this group and he loves it
Ok I know this was a lot haha. But it’s one of my fave ideas and I really wanted to share it with you 💜

hello dear zaina! your writing is so wonderful, and i saw recently that you were partaking in an ask game! i'm unaware of what requests you've received already, but either hinano kurahashi or kaede kayano would be lovely. wishing you all the best - i've the impression that you deserve it!
AHHHH YOU’RE SO CUTE AND SWEET !!! tysm!!! 🥺🥺💕💕 wishing the best for you as well! 🥰
I’ll do both! Love these girls!
Kurahashi
First impression: I loved her instantly. Always was lowkey obsessed with her. Also found her to be the student that resembles me most...lowkey projected onto her hahaha
Impression now: I still adore her omg. She has a place in my heart, she makes me very happy. Ngl I still project lmao.
Favorite moment: When she ruins the boy’s porn mag scheme because she’s so excited about the beetle- she’s just so damn cute 😭
Idea for a story: Ponyo AU?? She has the red hair and cuteness!!! Kimura or maybe Maehara can be Sosuke!!
Unpopular opinion: Idk if this is unpopular, but her crush on Karasuma was annoying, and I lowkey like to just forget about it.
Favorite relationship: It’s between Nakamura, Irina, and Yada for sure! Honorable mention to Okajima, Hazama, Isogai, Maehara, and Okano!
Favorite headcanon: I LOVE the headcanon that she goes to nature/wildlife when she’s upset. It’s the biggest way she can be comforted.
Kayano
First impression: In the beginning, I also fell prey to the popular view of her as “just Nagisa’s boring love interest.” Kayano, baby, I’m so sorry
Impression now: I would die for Kayano. Like words can’t even describe how much I love her. Just her grief, her anger, everything about her hits so hard. She had so much potential as a character.
Favorite moment: The reveal~ when she first pulls out the tentacles and calls Koro a murderer. But I have a special fondness for the pudding arc. She’s so ridiculous, I love her
Idea for a story: Acting AU where she and Kanzaki are the leads...and they fall in love UwU
Unpopular opinion: Yes she’s a badass. But I think Kayano’s passion and sensitivity are really important parts of who she is.
Favorite relationship: All of Group 4. I can’t pick a single favorite. Also Aguri and Koro, without a doubt.
Favorite headcanon: After Civil War and some time has passed and the class accepts her more, she invites her friends to her apartment often. It kind of becomes their main hang out place. And it helps her feel less lonely.

I love your alternate take on the Civil War oml — so I was wondering if you have any other ideas for AUs of it? Since the canon one was sort of just a fight between Karma and Nagisa haha
Ahhh thanks!! 💜 I’m glad you like it! It’s super fun and interesting to think about!
Ok I’ll be honest haha: there was a period of time in which I gave an absurd amount of thought and analysis into canon Civil War, really trying my best to see both sides. I used to disagree badly with the Red Team, and hated the ending between Karma and Nagisa.
But my stance has changed since then so currently: I still heavily dislike canon Civil War, but I get why it played out the way it did. And I can respect it at least.
Ah, as for your question!
The Kayano Civil War AU by @assclass-conspiracies (ily nao) is one of my favorite things ever! It’s my first choice for a fan-made civil war.
Irina Civil War AU was my idea in a convo with a few friends on Discord...and I like it a lot but it’s definitely less dramatic than the others could be haha. I’m still currently putting more thought into it.
And for some other ideas...tbh I can’t think of a lot. Except one. One very terrible heart-breaking one.
...what if some of the kids on Team Red still wanted to continue the assassination...for the money?
I know...awful.
And...it would give everyone a reason to be angry at each other, not just Karma and Nagisa’s singular drama. And the whole situation would feel more like a class Civil War, you know? Not just everyone spectating these two beating each other up.
Honestly I’m specifically thinking of like Terasaka Squad and the Art trio. They’re who come to mind. Lowkey could also see Nakamura?
“What the hell is wrong with you??? You’re just doing this for the money???”
“Look! We really need it and the octopus would want us to be secure!”
Yeah...something among these lines.
ITS TERRIBLE AND I HATE IT BECAUSE ITS SO HEARTBREAKING.
I think I could only explore this in a one-shot or something though. It’s definitely not suitable to be an actual AU tbh.
One of the biggest reasons is that it would...make you resent those kids. And I lowkey resent Team Red in canon so this would make me 😡😭
I shared this in the rewrite server and broke a few hearts...basically everyone agreed that it’s too upsetting lmao.
Oh I think maybe I do have another AU idea! I would love one where Kataoka survives and lasts longer than Isogai, getting the spotlight on herself for once. We needed more of her leadership to shine through!
And yeah I think that’s it! I can’t really think of anymore right now haha.
Thanks for asking!! 💜💜
