Best Quotes From 'She Drives Me Crazy'
"I just wish people could be more creative with their ignorance."
"For the dozenth time this year, I wish I could go home with anyone else. But tonight it's not because I hate her. It's because I can no longer deny that I actually like her."
"The ball is usually so controlled in my hands, but tonight it's like I'm chucking a giant potato through a window tunnel."
"At the end of the day, I'm the only person living my life. Why should I answer to anyone else?"
"Cheerleaders are athletes."
'She shoots me a look that to everyone else probably looks flirtatious, but to me seems to say This is such bullshit and these people are idiots and I might kill you but I haven't decided yet.'
"You will move through your life and fall in love with many different people, and at some point, you will get your heart broken. It's unavailable. The key is not to be afraid of the breaking. People break our hearts, but they create more room in them first, and that room makes it possible for us to become more ourselves."
"If you want them to think that you matter, start acting like they should already know that you matter."
"But from me, you deserve honesty. I haven't wanted to be real with you about how messy and broken and confused I feel. I tried to keep you away by telling myself you were the popular girl who didn't care about me. But you do care about me. You care about a lot of things. You have a big heart and you're funny and headstrong. You're one of the most amazing people I've ever met."
"Because before you can worry about who's in your passenger seat, you have to learn to drive yourself."

Love the characters in She Drives Me Crazy and I remember reading a part in the book that made me wonder if Irene is the type to get jealous easily?
No, she's too self-assured.

Round 1, bracket 12
Propaganda under the cut, feel free to add more in reblogs or comments. (Trigger warning for the colour purple, non-con things mentioned)
The Colour Purple – This novel depicts the life of African American women in the 1900s in rural Georgia. Celie and Nettie are sisters who were separated at a young age and are unable to see each other for multiple decades. (TRIGGER WARNING FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND NON CONSENTUAL BODY CHANGES) Celie writes in the book about how her “father” sleeps with her and touches her, same with Nettie. Tashi undergoes “surgery” which mutilates her genitalia. Celie is also abused by her father, husband and step-children. The Colour Purple has very heavy topics around WOC struggles in the early 20th century.
She Drives Me Crazy – After losing in her first competition with her ex-girlfriend after they broke up, Scottie gets into a car accident with her enemy, the mean Irene. The girls are forced to carpool together until Irene’s car is fixed, and they come up with a plan to get back at Scottie’s toxic ex, and a way for Scottie to climb the school social ladder.

Start reading Episode 1
Dialogue transcripts:
Panel 1
Dorian: You caught me by surprise, Godalming. I was starting to think that you would never host an event. What’s the occasion?
Panel 2
Arthur: Just a send off for a good friend leaving for his homeland. Now…
Panel 3
Arthur: …To what do I owe the pleasure of a visit from Mr. Hallward and yourself?
Panel 4
Dorian: I wasn’t about to miss a Godalming party, of course! But I also wanted to say you’re welcome for my help in apprehending the Invisible Man. ♡
Panel 5
Dorian (offscreen): Don’t try to deny it, that puppy face of yours can’t hide a thing. Interesting friends you’ve got, Godalming. I didn’t know you had it in you; it’s most fascinating.
Panel 6
Dorian: As interesting as certain happenings at a secluded park up north.
Panel 7
Arthur: What are you getting at, Gray?
Dorian: You see, I, too, am rather interested in such strange cases…for personal reasons.
Panel 8
Dorian: And you lot seem to be most adept at attracting them…but you need my help for that, don’t you?
Arthur: If you wish to be part of this, Mr. Gray, you should be asking Mrs. Harker and Mrs. Norton, not myself.
Panel 9
Dorian: What do you mean—they are in charge of this?!
Panel 10
Arthur: Not as all-knowing as you boast, are you?

BOOK REVIEW: She Drives Me Crazy
★★★★★ - 5 stars
"You would think, based on the fact that I've played varsity basketball for three years now, that I know how to score a basket. You would be wrong."
Scottie Zajac lost her first basketball game with Tally since her breakup. Then, she got into a minor car accident with the person she hates the most, Irene Abraham - not that this is the first time Irene has trashed her car. To make matters even worse, their mothers do some meddling and decide the two girls are to carpool until Irene's car gets fixed. Carpooling doesn't go particularly well, with the two girls arguing like crazy due to the confinement. However, when Scottie sees an opportunity to make Tally jealous (and maybe just move up the social hierarchy of her school as well) she takes it, in the form of bribes and fake dating Irene Abraham. Yet as Irene and Scottie spend more time together, they begin to realise that maybe their dating wouldn't be as crazy as it seems and discover that they do have real feelings for each other.
Romance books that reference rom-com films are on a whole other level to other romance books, and She Drives Me Crazy is in this league of rom-coms. From 10 Things I Hate About You to Say Anything, rom-coms play different roles in the story (either being mentioned in brief passing or having a large impact on the plot).
One of the most important messages of this book is arguably unusual for a romance book because it's not just a romance book. It's a character-centric book and as a result, focuses on sports and athleticism a lot, which is where this message comes in. Cheerleading is as much of a sport as anything else; Cheerleaders are athletes. As Cheerleading is the second most important sport in the entire book, we see just why this is the case. Cheerleading requires its' athletes to be strong, good planners, organised, and good at learning choreography. Irene Abraham can be assigned to everyone single one of these attributes. Therefore it should not be discounted; it is undoubtedly a sport.
While Scottie and Irene are obviously the main characters and are great ones at that, I think it's the minor characters that really make this book so special. Where would our daring, sporty, enemies-to-lovers be without the Christmas-obsessed, spiritual best friend Honey-Belle. Scottie wouldn't be Scottie if it weren't for her relationship with her sisters, caring and being protective over each other. Dannielle and Kevin were genuinely the cutest side-plot of this entire thing - the nerds who get excited over debates and slowly fall for each other during each crisis that Scottie is undergoing. Also, the parents were the greatest comedic relief of this book - supportive of their girls and their dreams but also utterly embarrassing whenever Scottie and Irene see each other. To summarise, the characters of this book are what make it so great; the characters make you continue reading.
She Drives Me Crazy is sort of the sapphic version of Better Than The Movies. It's got rom-com references, everyone's favourite romance-obsessed ginger main character (I'm pushing a Scottie Zajac is the sporty version of Liz Buxbaum agenda), and it mixes the tropes of fake dating and enemies to lovers. I'd recommend to read during the build-up to Christmas (Christmas isn't necessarily a large part of the story, but it's when it's set and the town they live in is a bit Christmas-obsessed). If you love all that I've described, I'd definitely recommend giving this funny, witty romance a read.

Some characters in my rewrite are getting renamed and some unnamed characters are getting names! Here is a few of them
Nicole Von Ronsenburg - Nicole was born the eldest child of the Lord of Scaleswind. Her name when she was born was Nikola but she changed it when she ran away to a less Scaleswind sounding name to blend in further North.
Lord Von Ronsenburg - He never had a name in canon so he's named Alexander Von Ronsenburg now.
Nekoette Ashida - We don't have time to get into the many reasons I don't like the name Nekoette so let's just say I don't like it and move on. Her name is Reina now. I initially named her Rena after Lady Irene but then I changed it to a more Japanese name to fit with Nana.
Kawaii-Chan - This one is easy, changed her name from KC to her birth name from MyStreet because Nana Ashida fits the setting better.
Lady Irene - The religious figure's name is remembered as being Irene but her name as a person was actually Irena. Based on a random early S1 lore drop which was retconned but my ass went but what if it wasn't. In Scaleswind she is remembered as Irena, the person who saved their city. Throughout Ru'aun she is remembered as Irene, the Divine Warrior.
Abraham Goldwin - So he's not technically a character in MCD but he is important to my Zianna so he's important to me. Jeffory and Vylad's father, Zianna's ex-fiance. He is the person Abby is named after and the reason Jeffory and Abby use the surname 'Goldenheart'.
Shad and Irene's daughter - She doesn't have a name in canon but I am giving her one. She accidentally became my favourite character last night when I got a little too invested in her. Her name was Astra.
Finally and perhaps most importantly Aphmau herself - I decided I didn't really like her name so I changed it. Arja is a nickname of Irena in finish and it begins with an A. It's the perfect name for her.

American Red Cross Clubmobile Service Reading List
@ktredshoes made the mistake of asking me a question earlier today, and because I'm sure someone else might find this helpful, I'm putting my answer here!
Do you know where I can find background on the life/typical day of a Red Cross Clubmobile volunteer, by any chance? Was thinking maybe you might, from that post of yours the other day about Tatty Spaatz?
They Also Served (Olga Gruhzit-Hoyt) has two chapters on the Red Cross and Clubmobile Service. Our Mother's War (Emily Yellin) has one section of a chapter on the Clubmobile, which provides a nice overview of daily duties for women working on Clubmobile service, which has a more mobile component.
War Through the Hole of a Donut - Angela Petesch's letters home to her parents. Petesch served in the Clubmobile Iowa. Battlestars and Donuts - Mary Metcalfe Rexford's memoir, based on letters home to her parents. Metcalfe served in the Clubmobile Abraham Lincoln and is quoted extensively in Our Mother's War. Slinging Donuts for the Boys - book based on the letters and experiences of Elizabeth Richardson, who served on the Clubmobile Kansas City. This book tries very hard to provide context and further information about what's discussed in Elizabeth's letters home. When I Think Back - Fitje Pitt's letters home to her parents and friends. Pitts served as the director of an Aero Club for the 95th Bomb Group. The Aero Club would have been a more or less permanent installation on a given base, and I think that's the vibe that Orloff is trying to give the girls we see in MOTA. Fitje is a prodigious correspondent and you'll get a good idea of her day to day from this book.
Life Magazine also ran a full story on Tatty's Clubmobile team on the North Dakoka, and you can read the whole thing, with pictures, online at Google Books.
Every time someone brings this topic up, I feel obliged to mention Luis Alberto Urrea's Good Night Irene. While this is a novel, it's based on his mother's letters and personal papers, and it is really, really good. I know it was a book club darling when it first came out but the praise is rightly deserved. Everyone, please read this.

hello! i just wanted to say first off that she drives me crazy is one of my favorite books, and second off, as a queer indian girl, irene being indian meant so much because i already felt super underrepresented, and finding a book set in high school where one of the main characters is indian, gay, AND well written was just so comforting. so thank you for writing this amazing book
Ah, thank you, Irene is the best! But really all credit goes to my Indian/SA friends, who were so generous with their critiques and input. Thanks for reading :)
