SHOCK & AWE AWARDS

1. Biggest BL surprise of 2023:

The last 3 months of 2023 in general got my biggest WTF award.

GMMTV fielding OffGun AND TayNew in the same quarter while also airing Last Twilight (arguably one of their best BLs ever)

That they ALSO optioned 3 JBLs

That there's a high heat omegaverse BL staring Pavel

That there were 20 BLs airing and none of them Korean.

With 5 VAMPIRE BLs announced for next year

But my prize in this category goes to My Dear Gangster Oppa.

It's just crazy:

Thai talent, Korean money + IP (this is adapted from a manwha) airing on a Chinese channel (iQIYI). Plus it was GOOD and made smart reuse of a pair who richly deserved it. I'm delighted by the eclectic insanity of this production. And wonder if any other film genre could even do anything like this.

2. The “that country did WHAT?” award:

The 8th Sense from Korea?!

I mean, seriously?! Dealing with metal health, suicide, darkness, therapy, age gap, & first time love BUT FROM KOREA? And then openness and casual boyfriend physical affection? What's next? An actual hard fought coming out narrative with an HEA? Gay domesticity and families?

Careful Korea, you'll strain something. Possibly your own culture and film industry.

I should stop having expectations of Korea, they keep surprising me.

Runners up: Korea letting OnlyOneOf do Bump Up Business not to mention that OmegaX thing. AND Korea adapting Why R U? What are you up to, Korea? Qua? Is this a coded message? Should we send help? Do you need snacks?

3. Biggest casting whoa! where did you come from? award:

GeminiFourth in My School President.

Seriously? Babies what? How did GMMTV find you? How do you exist? How is BL this lucky?

4. That studio did WHAT now? award:

GMMTV putting EarthMix into Moonlight Chicken.

And then doubling down with G4 as the damn sides.

Fucking genius.

5. I’m sad you were ignored award:

Destiny Seeker.

It's just a really fun little Thai pulp, the pairs were good, silly dialogue, plus consent and other good rep. I enjoyed it. No one talked about it AT ALL.

6. 2023 BL That Actually Made Me Lose My Mind Award?

Laws of Attraction. -The casting, the crazy story, the soapy drama! But specifically: Film playing Charn - the range of his smiles alone. GLORIOUS

I mean I Feel You Linger in the Air also sparked something in me, but LoA drove me actually nuts.

7. Best story 2023:

La Pluie

I know, you're surprised, right? At the time I didn't chat much about it but I really enjoyed the discourse others were having. I love anything that really examines the fated mates (soulmates) trope and the idea of "the one". What a clever way to do that. (This is one reason UWMA is my favorite Thai BL.)

This one reminded me of the way Color Rush approached allegory and that's no bad thing. Such an impressive little piece.

8. Best narrative structure 2023 award:

Unintentional Love Story.

I know this may seem a simplistic pick. But I love the tidiness of this no frills contemporary romance, how the culture of work and personal ethics and corruption fight against the main character's affection and integrity. Poor baby boy is driven into a corner and then punished for it. But it is punishment he feels he deserves, and so it is up to his (now) ex to figure out what went wrong and why.

It's just great. I love it when no one is stupid or wrong, it's just impossible circumstances and unintentional love deeply felt.

9. Best 2023 dialogue (script) award:

Jun & Jun

Never before has Korea laced a BL with that much perfectly executed innuendo. It was a master class. I didn't know you could be that lascivious in Korean, quite frankly. Plus the way the 2 Juns constantly seamlessly transition between formal register (work, public - where they are boss/employee) to informal register (when they are alone and age mates + childhood sweethearts).

Beautiful to hear and watch.

10. Favorite scene 2023:

The dub con scene in I Cannot Reach You because I AM TRASH for an out of control seme. I'm sorry I just AM.

I have said it before, I will say it again, NO ONE DOES THIRST like Japan. And when that thirst bubbles over, it is heart-clenching and very hot.

11. The most rewatchable BL of 2023 award:

Our Dating Sim

That scene where they lie on the floor + the stolen kiss + giggle? Come on, it should be on comfort repeat in war rooms. It could bring world peace.

12. Best performance of a queer actor in a leading role, 2023:

Fluke in Make a Wish.

It was fun to see him as an irreverent immortal and while I love OhmFluke I also really enjoyed this new pairing. It was a genuine pleasure to watch.

13. Best pining 2023:

The moot pining in Tokyo in April is...

Boys, seriously? Japan must you destroy us like this? Hurts so good.

14. Best wingman 2023 (The Namgoong Award)

Seriously tho between them, Taiwan & Korea tried for ALL THE CAMEOS this year.

Seriously Taiwan, AGAIN you disappoint me with an Office BL? You're Taiwan, land of offices and suits. This should be YOUR SETTING TO WIN. And yet... argh. I mean it wasn't bad. But it wasn't good either. Stop it Taiwan, do better.

Runners up? Between Us, Chains of Heart, Dangerous Romance - this was a HOTLY contested category.

The Director who Buys Me Dinner - I mean this nicely but: you have your lane now Korea, stop hurting us, that's Japan's responsibility and they do it better.

Recovery - Chapter 42

Synopsis : Simon reveals who leaked the track.

MARSHALL’S POV

- I know who leaked your track, Simon said. The one about Y/N.

Marshall had so many questions in mind that it took him a second to reply to Simon. How the hell did he know who leaked the track ? But most importantly : who did it ? Who almost ruined his relationship ? Whoever that person was, they would have to pay the consequences. He would make sure to harm them as much as they had harmed him, and the punishment would fit the crime. Whether it was through lawyers or himself, he would have justice.

- Who ? He almost barked. And how do you know ?

- It’s complicated, Simon explained. I want to meet up with you.

- Why the f- Just tell me who, he said. Give me their name.

- You might want to organize a meeting with your team. In fact, every single person working in the building. And have them bring their devices. I’ll explain.

- Ok, Marshall said in an annoyed voice. 7 AM tomorrow. I’ll have Y/N text you the address of the studio.

He ended the call and stared at Y/N, who was looking at him with a curious look, obviously wondering what that was all about.

- Why are you meeting up with him ? She asked anxiously.

- Apparently, he knows who leaked the song, he explained. I’m not sure how but, if he has proof and tells me who it is… I swear to God they are going to suffer. I won’t rest until they pay for what they’ve done.

- Well, Simon works in IT, Y/N explained. He’s a skilled hacker. He offered to look into the whole thing when I saw him.

- How kind of him, he commented sarcastically.

- Don’t you want to know ? She asked.

- I do, he assured her. But you can’t convince me he’s only interested in your friendship, Y/N. I’m not dumb. Anyway… whoever did that… I will end them. I swear they will pay.

She looked at him anxiously and nodded. She got under the covers and rested a head on his shoulder while he texted Tracy and Paul to ask them to plan the meeting with Simon.

The next day, he went to the studio with Y/N. Everyone who worked in the building was there, though one knew why they were all gathered here. It was rare for everyone to be in the same meeting. Most of the time, it was just himself, Tracy and Paul but, now, they were joined by all the sound engineers, studio personnels and other people working for the label, as well as Porter, Royce and Jamal. When Simon arrived, they coldly shook hands and he had to display a lot of calmness when Y/N greeted her ex with a quick hug.

- Why is everyone here ? Jamal asked. Why is Simon here ?

- I guess Simon can explain, Marshall said.

- I have managed to trace the leak of the song about Y/N, Simon said. I can formally said that the call came from inside the house. Which means someone in this room is responsible for the leak.

Marshall took a minute to stare into the eyes of everyone that was present. He already knew it wasn’t Porter, Royce or Jamal. Paul and Tracy had had to deal with the leak’s consequences, too, so there was no way they would be blamed. Other people, however, were on the suspect list. Motives were unclear, though.

- There’s almost twenty people here, Marshall said. When you said you-

- I’m getting there, Simon cut him. We can absolutely narrow it down. I have the IP address of the computer from which it was leaked. I also know it’s someone who has access to your personal Cloud, which, by the way, really lacks security…

He swallowed dryly and nervously. Only two people had access to his online storage, for work purposes : Paul and Tracy. It couldn’t be. He stared at Paul, who seemed as curious as he was. Not the look of someone who was guilty. Plus, he had worked with Paul for nearly twenty-five years and he was the one who’d had to deal with leaked consequences. There was no way his manager, longtime friend and collaborator could have betrayed him this way. He shot a look at Tracy, who looked sick. She gave him a helpless look. A guilty one. She had tears in her eyes. He could not believe it. Not her. He had trusted her with so much. And it didn’t make sense. She had been there for him after the leak, she had heard him complain about how badly it affected him. He kept on staring at her without blinking and she mouthed a silent « I’m sorry ». He closed his eyes and let out a loud sigh.

- Paul, Tracy, Office. Now, he ordered.

- I haven’t even given you the address, Simon began.

- Later, Marshall said curtly. Everyone stay here. Paul and Tracy come with me.

They followed him to his office and he slammed the door shut.

- You better be joking, he seethed.

- What’s wrong ? Paul asked. Marshall, what’s going on ?

- Tell me it’s not true, he asked Tracy as he ignored Paul. Tell me you didn’t do it.

- Didn’t do what ? Paul asked, losing his patience.

Neither he nor Tracy replied. He could see in her eyes that she was guilty and it was making him sick to his stomach. She had known him for two decades, she was one of his closest collaborators. She had her head down and she was clearly on the verge of tears.

- Guys ! Paul almost yelled.

- I’m sorry, Tracy mumbled. Marshall, I-

- You’re sorry ?! Marshall screamed. You’re fucking SORRY ?! You’ve got to be fucking kidding me ! You leaked the worst song I have ever made, you almost destroyed my relationship and my girlfriend reputation and you’re sorry ?! Jesus Christ, Tracy !

- It has to be a mistake, the manager said. Tracy would never… you didn’t, did you ?!

- Guys, I… I did, she said. But… Marshall, can I speak to you in private ?

- From now on, anything you have to say, you can say in front of Paul, he replied without looking at her.

- I did it for you, she said. Marshall, I know it sounds twisted, but it’s true.

- For me ?! What part of it was for me ?! He yelled.

- Because you don’t see what that girl is doing to you, she cried. It’s going to be a Kim situation all over again, everyone can see it. I see it. Look at the track you made ! You can’t tell me you’re in a healthy relationship with her ! Look at how you were in London. And the months before that…

- Don’t mention London, he said dryly. London was a mistake.

- What happened in London ? Paul asked.

- Nothing, they said at the same time.

Paul looked at them with incomprehension all over his face. The whole thing was messy and, thank God he had a better grasp on his emotions because, decades ago, he would have smashed Tracy’s face on his desk. How dare she pull something like this on him ? It was making him sick to his stomach.

- So what ? Marshall scoffed. You decided my relationship isn’t healthy and you took matters into your own hands ?

- I thought… I thought that if you weren’t able to see it for yourself, she would, Tracy said apologetically.

- Oh so you did that for her ?! He asked sarcastically.

- Marshall, I can’t stand it, Tracy cried. It’s your relationship with Kim all over again, only now I have to see you do everything you never did for anyone else. You have me booking your therapist appointments, booking the jet for your romantic Christmas vacations…! So I’m sorry, it was wrong, it was a mistake, I just… for a moment, I lost it. I’m so sorry. I was searching for the beat you made for the collab with Kendrick, and I stumbled across it and I didn’t think…

He scoffed and got up. Whatever excuse she was coming with was utter bullshit. Weeks ago, when they agreed to keep working together, she had assured him she didn’t have feelings for him and that they could keep things professional. And he believed her. She was one of his closest friends, often acting as a confidant. For fuck’s sake, she had been around his family !

- You’re fucking fired, he spat. Paul, I’ll let you deal with it.

- Marshall, please, Tracy begged. I’m sorry…

- You’re not, he said. And even if you were, I wouldn’t fucking care.

- Marshall, we should talk about this, Paul said in an attempt to reason with him.

- I’m out of here, he scoffed.

He exited his office and was on his way back to the room where the meeting was held when Paul caught him in the corridor.

- Marshall, the manager said. Maybe we can find a solution.

- A solution ? He scoffed. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Paul ! What solution ? She fucking- she… FUCK ! You want me to keep her around ?! After what she did ?

- No, of course not, Paul said. But she does a lot around here. She’s going to be hard to replace…

- I don’t care, Marshall said. What ? Do you agree with her ?! Do you condone what she did ?!

- Of course not, his friend send.

- Good, he replied. Now get rid of her. I don’t want to see her ever again.

- We’ll have to talk about it, Paul replied. About how we-

- Later, Marshall replied. If I have to see her face one more second, I swear to God you’ll have to call the cops on me and then bail me out.

The manager nodded sheepishly and let him go back to the meeting room. Everyone was waiting for him nervously. He closed his eyes for a second and decided to dismiss everyone.

- Everyone go home, he sighed.

- We just got here, someone said. Who leaked the track ?

- Go. Home. I already fired someone today, don’t make me fire all of you.

Everyone looked at each other and whispered before eventually vacating. A few people asked if the day’s studio sessions were still happening and, honestly, he couldn’t care less. As long as he was not forced to stay there, people could do whatever they wanted. He simply cancelled his own sessions and told people to do whatever they wanted and, if they needed to reach him, ask Paul instead. Y/N walked up to him and they stared at each other in silence.

- So-, she began.

- We’ll talk about it at home, he sighed. Let’s get out of here.

- Are you alright, man ? Jamal asked.

- Yeah, he lied.

Truth was, he was far from alright. He was feeling betrayed by someone he practically considered like a family member. Also, considering the subject matter of the song, it was worse than if she had leaked the album. She would have been fired either way but this was more insidious, more personal. The crowd vacated and the only people left in the room were himself, Y/N, Simon, Porter, Royce and Jamal.

- Do you want to talk about it ? Royce asked.

- Not now, he sighed. I need a minute, guys. I’ll explain but… later. Unless you want me to commit a murder.

- Is it-, Y/N began to ask.

- Later, he replied dryly.

His girlfriend avoided his gaze and mumbled an apology. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it, as a silent apology. His eyes met Simon’s and he automatically brought Y/N closer to him, in a rather possessive stance.

- Well… the matter seems dealt with, Simon hummed. I will be on my way. May I have a word with you ?

- Sure, Marshall said.

A new wave of tension came over the room and he saw Jamal and his girlfriend exchanging glances. Eventually, though, they left them alone. He took a good look at Simon and his jaw clenched as he imagined him with Y/N. He was already mad and it wouldn’t take much for him to throw a punch, but he remembered he actually owed him one

- I assume that what you did wasn’t very legal but thank you nonetheless, he said as they politely shook hands.

- To be fair, your IT security sucks, Simon said with a smirk. A twelve year-old could have done it. I’m surprised more hasn’t leaked.

- Right, he said coldly. Noted. Thank you.

- Obviously, you know it but, I didn’t do it for you, Simon continued. I did it for her.

- This, I figured, he replied curtly.

- She told me you guys are working things out, whatever that means. And I’m a man of honor so I’m going to respect her wishes. But don’t get me wrong : if you fuck up, and I know you will, I will be there.

- Are you threatening me ? Marshall asked with a raised eyebrow.

- I’m not threatening you, Simon said. Simply warning you. Y/N and I belong together. She doesn’t realize it yet but eventually, she will. I made mistakes and lost her, but I intend on getting her back and giving her what you won’t.

- Thanks for your concern, man, but I fully intend on giving her everything she asks for, he replied.

- Everything but what she craves most, isn’t that right ? The other asked. She told me about that. She thinks she can get over it but, I know her, and I frankly doubt that.

- If I were you, I would refrain from thinking about Y/N, he warned. She made her choice. Get over it, man.

- We’ll see, Simon said with contempt. Now, I hope that whoever is behind this will be dealt with properly. For Y/N’s sake.

They exchanged a cold glance and exited the room. If Y/N hadn’t been in the corridor, he would have gladly punched Simon but he knew that, in these circumstances, he’d better not. He saw Simon say goodbye to Y/N, who thanked him for everything. She looked a bit sad, in spite of the smile she tried to give. They went home, in a more than silent car ride. He was debating whether or not he should tell her about his conversation with Simon but he doubted it was a good idea. Even if she knew about his plans to get her back, she probably wouldn’t take it seriously.

- Are you alright ? She asked as they arrived home. I mean… are you really ok ?

- Not really, he said.

- It’s Tracy, isn’t it ? She asked.

- Yeah, he admitted.

- Wow, she simply said.

- I’m sorry, he sighed. I defended her, I kept on working with her… honestly, I never thought she’d pull something like this.

- Well… what’s done is gone, I guess, she shrugged.

- Paul’s dealing with her, he continued. I fired her, obviously, but we’re going to have to deal with it, with the team. What a shitshow…

He sighed and she hugged him. He wasn’t feeling especially responsive but he let her and rested his chin on top of her head.

- Is there anything I can do ? She asked.

- Not really, he shrugged. I just need some time alone, if you don’t mind.

He quickly pecked her on the forehead and went to the home gym. He spent a good part of the day in there, exhausting himself on the treadmill, hitting the punching bag, trying not to think about Tracy or Simon’s threat. He was a sweaty, angry, frustrated mess, and if people wanted to come for his relationship with Y/N, he would gladly come for them. She was his person, and there was no way he would prove Tracy right, or allow Simon to come between them.

- Is that Tracy’s face your imagining ? He heard Jamal’s voice say. Or Simon’s ?

- Both, he grunted.

- Can’t blame you here, bro, his friend replied.

Jamal held the bag while he kept punching, encouraging him to go harder, give it his all. When he finally stopped, a weight was lifted off his shoulders. He was still livid but some of the tension was gone.

- Better ? Jamal asked.

- Definitely, he replied. What are you doing here ?

- We came to check on you, his friend replied. Royce, Porter and Talia came with me.

- Oh. Thanks, he said.

- Y/N let us in, he continued. She’s worried about you. Said you’ve been here for hours.

- Yeah, I figured it’d be healthier to retreat and not risk snapping at her, he explained.

- So… Tracy, huh ? Jamal asked.

- Yeah, he groaned. Admit it… you also came for the details, huh ?

- Why don’t you take a shower and tell us everything ? His friend replied with a smile. We’ll be waiting in the living room.

He nodded and, after a long, hot shower, he joined everyone in the living room. Talia had even brought food, and he knew it was her way of caring for people. For someone who had called him an asshole, she didn’t seem to hate him too much. He greeted everyone and sat on the couch, making sure to pull Y/N close to him. She looked in his eyes, as if to ask if he was ok and he simply nodded and kissed her forehead. Then, he proceeded to explain the situation, revealing that Tracy was indeed the one behind the leak, most likely out of jealousy.

- That’s weird, though, Porter pointed out. You guys broke up more than ten years ago.

- Well, there’s been some… instances, he simply replied.

- Recent instances ? Royce asked.

- More or less, he hummed as he felt Y/N’s stare.

- Don’t tell me you cheated on Y/N, Talia warned. Or I swear to God…

- Of course not, he defended himself. Look, it happened when we were broken up. In London. And it was just a kiss.

- Men are trash, Talia sighed.

- Babe, they were broken up, Jamal said.

- Thank you, he said.

- Doesn’t mean it wasn’t stupid though, his friend continued.

- Look, I know, he sighed. But that’s all it was, a kiss. We almost went further but we didn’t. And then, I got back with Y/N and Tracy assured me there was nothing, and that we could keep on working together.

- That is so dumb, Talia commented. Of course she was going to try and do something stupid.

- I couldn’t know that, he groaned.

- Yeah, Porter said. I mean… it’s Tracy. She’s been part of the team forever. I can’t believe she did that.

- Man… I feel bad for her, Royce said.

He heard Y/N scratch her throat. He looked at her and she seemed displeased to say the least, visibly pouting.

- Are you alright ? He asked.

- Well I’m sorry but I don’t feel sorry for her, she shrugged. She made a choice to hurt people. Because of her, I was publicly humiliated and I have people harassing me on social media. So I’m not sorry she lost her job.

- Y/N is right, Talia said. She chose to betray you and hurt your girl, Em.

- Girls, what we mean is that Tracy has been a part of the team forever, Porter said. Of course what she did sucks. But it’s out of character.

- Whatever, Marshall sighed. If she was jealous, she could just have resigned as a personal assistant and kept on working with Paul. I would have understood. But fucking me over like this… I didn’t know she was capable of that.

- You’re going to have to find someone else, now, Jamal pointed out.

- I guess, he groaned. But how can I find someone I trust enough when my oldest, most trusted employee just did this ?

- It’s fucked up, Porter said. But I’m sure you’ll find someone. Knowing Paul, he’s on it already.

He nodded and the conversation shifted. They ended up spending the evening playing video games and talking about everything and nothing. He enjoyed having his friends with him and they did a great job keeping his mind off things. Y/N was in his arms, her head resting on his shoulder and he could smell the fragrance of her shampoo. Her presence was soothing, now more than ever. However, he could sense that she was tense, which was understandable. He was the one who wrote the track but Tracy was the one to blame for the humiliation. They were playing some random video game when the doorbell rang. He was busy trying to beat the others so Y/N got up and went to open the door.

- You’ve got some nerve showing up here, he heard her say coldly.

They immediately paused the game and gathered at the door. They were all facing Tracy, who was standing outside.

- What are you doing here ? He asked coldly. I thought I was clear.

- I wanted to apologize. Face to face. To the both of you, she said.

- I don’t give a fuck about your apology, he said. I could have expected this shit from a lot of people. But you… fuck, I can say I did not see it coming.

- I’m sorry, she said. I know it was wrong. I got lost in my feelings, I- it really hurt me. I know there’s no excuse but-

- Damn right. There’s no excuse, he said. Now, please get out of here before I call security.

She nodded sheepishly and went back to her car. He was about to close the door when Y/N stopped him. She followed Tracy and caught her attention. Before anyone could comprehend what was going on or stop her, she was pulling her hair and slapping her.

- What the fuck ? Tracy asked.

- This is for London, Y/N yelled as she slapped her a first time.

He knew he should probably intervene but he was in shock. He had already seen Y/N angry, he had even heard scream like a madwoman but seeing her hit someone was definitely not on his bingo card. Everyone was staring at the scene, not daring to move.

- And this, is for Marshall ! She finally screamed, punching her nose.

They saw Tracy fall to the ground and scream in pain, and they heard Y/N gasp as well, holding her hand. However, half a second later, both women were on the floor, fighting and pulling each other’s hair. Jamal was the only one to react and intervene between them, pulling Y/N by the arm and yanking the hood of the hoodie she was wearing.

- You little bitch ! Tracy yelled. You broke my nose !

- Be grateful, now you have a good excuse to get it fixed, you whore, his girlfriend seethed.

- Y/N ! Enough ! Jamal yelled.

He forced Y/N to go back inside and they sent Tracy on her way. As soon as the door was closed, he pulled his girlfriend aside.

- Three things, he said sternly. One, you’re fucking crazy ! And two, never put your thumb in your fist when punching someone.

- Yeah well, i- she panted. Wait that’s two… what’s the third one ?

- Three, have I told you how much I love you, yet ? He said as he tried to hide a smirk.

She gave him a shy smile and he pulled her in for a deep kiss. He could hear Talia clapping, though Jamal quickly scolded her for encouraging Y/N.

- don’t encourage her, Jamal groaned.

- My girl was right ! Talia said. She stood on business and I’m proud.

- Sometimes, I ask myself what a sweet girl like Y/N is doing with Marshall, Royce said. Not anymore, I guess. She’s just as bad as him !

He couldn’t help but chuckle. Y/N assaulting Tracy was out of character but he couldn’t help smiling at her. The way she defended him was much too sweet. Also, he was definitely thankful he hadn’t been on the receiving hand of that punch.

- She had it coming, Y/N mumbled.

- You’re feisty, Porter chuckled. I’m scared of you, now.

She giggled and he kissed her temple before grabbing her hand. It didn’t look too good and the simple contact had her wincing.

- Yeah, I think it’s broken, he commented. I guess I’ll have to drive you to the ER.

- Oh no, she whined.

- We’re going to have to teach you how to punch properly, he said as he shook his head.

- Don’t, Jamal scolded. You two are already too similar, we don’t need your flaws rubbing off on her.

Everyone chortled and he grabbed their jackets before everyone went to their respective cars. Before they parted ways, Talia looked at them with a smirk.

- Pray you don’t run into Nicole, she giggled.

The Hanged Chorus, aka the Cage Match Balor, aka I'm Not Trapped In Here With You, You're Trapped In Here With Me

since i'll be switching from GM to player at LL7 in my one of my lancer games, i just did my LL7 build for my character. pretty much the only thing i can do outside range 3 is tech attacks, but within range 3 i am extremely deadly and have the power to trap people in a hard light dome with me, and i have puppet systems in order to move enemies within range! (plus, we have a controller build lich on the squad who can send more enemies into the dome with me)

with a barrage, this build can easily deal 5d6 damage to a single enemy, and deal potentially up to 13 more damage at the start of the enemy's turn if they're adjacent to me:

Rating Marie's Outfits!!!!

It is FINALLY time to go over Marie's outfits throughout the years and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being complete dogshit and 10 being peak.

I won't be showing EVERY SINGLE outfit in every single piece of concept art and media because i wanna maintain my sanity, plus she shares a lot of her concept art outfits with Callie already in Splatoon 1.

Ugh, i love this look so much. They really knocked it out of the park on her first ever official look. I love the green that they picked and it goes REALLY well with the blue reflective material. The headpiece and haircut create a super duper strong silhouette.

This is iconic and its no mystery as to why. Nintendo decided to lock the FUCK IN 9 years ago.

Splatoon 1 - Young Marie

There's not much to say about wittle little baby Marie, she's just very cute!! Not as cute as baby Callie but that's just because I'm biased...

I think what gives this outfit 7 points alone are those black tights... I think they are doing something to my brain chemistry, and i don't know how to put it into words.... Just like Callie's concept design, this actually has potential and I could see it totally working better with some tweaks. Maybe a longer dress, the patterns on the arms being reduced, stuff like that you know?

Oh... This has a LOT of sauce actually. I love the hexagonal pattern on the dress and those black tights. I kinda wanna see this come back in some sort of official manner, just maybe with a different pattern on the front and a more interesting headpiece. it really gives me a futuristic sort of vibe for Marie, and in the right setting, this outfit would KILL!!! Just needs some tweaks.

I'm glad that this wasn't the final outfit chosen because it's way too "military/commander" like and not "j-pop idol." However... I would love to see this come back and it would kinda fit with a current day, Marie, who's now the boss of Deep Cut.

Anyways, what I really love about this outfit is the little details and amount of time and effort that the developers clearly put into this. The patterns at the bottom of her kimono, the green and pink colouring throughout, the headpiece, the triangle pattern near the middle.

It's very very well done and it deserves to be as iconic as it is.

Splatoon 2 - 1st Anniversary

Nintendo.... you give Marie this absolutely beautiful outfit, with the red lipstick, the cool kimono with the octopus details, the red tips in her hair... and you never EVER bring this back? You are a bunch of fucking morons I swear to GOD!!!

Splatoon 2 - Squidmas Outfit

Eh. It's just a little bland, nothing crazy but nothing bad either. It's just near the middle.

She also gives me 35 year old parent vibes... Is it just me?

I mean, what can I say? I like a girl with a top hat and suit. It's stylish. Don't judge me. I can't give this one a higher rating because we don't have a clear look at the full thing, but what is there is pretty neattttt.

Splatoon 2 - "Evil" Marie Concept Art

I wanted to talk about this because this is technically the only concept art we have of an "Evil" Marie. Sure Callie shares this art too but, this basically the only tangible piece of "Evil" Marie Nintendo has ever shared.

I think what is there is really really interesting as a base, what it needs is more detail and some of the stuff found in fan designs of "Hypno Marie." You know, a coat or cape and an octopus headpiece. I love the idea of having a full body suit with green patterns on it and if someone were to fully realise the design I think it could be fucking incredible.

Artists... you know what to do, and if you do it... you better @ me... pls? Thx. Xoxo!

Splatoon 2 - Hero Mode Concept Art

I decided to group this all together because they are pretty similar. They are very interesting concept designs, and I like the vibe they give off. They make Marie mysterious and kinda badass. But since this is just concept sketches i cant rate it any higher than a 7.

Nintendo really has a thing for giving Marie commander/boss like attire that makes her damn hot huh?

Splatoon 2 - Team Order Outfit

Rating: 7/10

Much like how Callie received Pearl's crown and a color change, so did Marie with Marina's headphones.

Although it's just the same old' Squid Sisters look for Marie, the colors on her look really really good and the headphones compliment the outfit surprisingly well. I can't give this a higher score because at the end of the day, it's a simple recolour.

Splatoon 3 - Alterna Attire

Rating: 10/10

Yeah this is just.... it's peak guys. Just like Callie's Alterna look, this is, in my opinion, a flawless design that perfectly captures where Marie is at in her life.

It combines the iconography and colors of her Squid Sister attire, but also the class and professional look of her kimono from Splatoon 2. I LOVEEEEE the big white coat, the green that they picked, the little golden pin on her coat, her umbrella, and her shoes that have green soles on them to help break up the black.

Nintendo, you fucking cooked. Good job.

Splatoon 3 - Splatoween

God this is just... nearly perfect. The colors are so appealing, the face paint is so adorable. The only thing I wish they did was change the damn headpiece to something halloween themed.

Yeah, this is just great. Marie looks so warm and snuggled up. The little red nose, too, is so damn cute. It's nothing ABSOLUTELY CRAZY but, it's a really great winter outfit for Marie.

Splatoon 3 - Springfest

Honestly? I'm not actually feeling that strongly about this look for Marie. It's still good but.... it's not great either. There's something about it that I just can't put my finger on.

I love the eggshell on her head though, that's really cute.

Splatoon 3 - Summer Nights

Dude.... ugh.... Not only did they make Callie so damn hot with her Summer Nights outfit, but they did the same thing with Marie.

My fucking GOD bro, the lemon and oyster on her head, the silver shoes, the puffy pants, the overalls, the silver top.... the exposed skin....

The only thing I don't like is the hair, If they just let Marie's hair down as seen in Splatfest art, I would EASILY give this a 10/10.

I really do love the crown too and the slight differences between her outfit and Callie's.

“The updates are making me like Idia more, but in the same way you'd like a character for being pathetic” I’m shocked you didn’t like Idia at least from what I remember? He’s basically the same as Rollo (a character you do like I think) and in more ways than one. They’re both gloomy looking guys and traumatized big bros that are self righteous and pathetic. What kept you from liking Idia before if you don’t mind me asking?

Okay, confession time: when I was a little kid (I’m talking like 7-10 years old), I was SUPER into Greek mythology and more specifically the story of Hades and Persephone. I ate up ALL the Hades and Persephone retellings/reinterpretations I could find and actively hunted for more 💀 so you’d think I’d like Idia, who is twisted from Hades, given how I gravitated to Octavinelle because of my attachment to The Little Mermaid in my childhood…

I think what puts me off of Idia in spite of his similarities to Rollo, a character I do really love, is a combination of Idia's appearance and his attitude.

To tackle the shallower aspect first, I actually don't like characters that look "too" gloomy. I would say Rollo is stoic-looking, but not gloomy? He has a pretty neutral face most of the time and the only gloomy thing about him at a glance is the dark circles under his eyes. With Idia... There's a LOT going on here. The hair is definitely unique, but I've never been into super long hair. The nature of it kind of overshadows his face and Idia usually looks miserable as a default. I've mentioned before that I'm unnerved by his coloration too; the super pale skin plus the blue lips is reminiscent of a corpse and, well... while I do see there being an audience that finds him beautiful, I don't think that's a cute look for him.

Now, his attitude. I'm not going to fault Idia for being passionate about his hobbies, as we all have our niches that we're super into. What irks me is how Idia expresses himself and acts out on behalf of those interests. He talks down to people who "don't get it" and takes other measures to defend the things he likes that I think is crossing a line. For example, he tracks down the IP addresses of Ignihyde mob students that defaced his favorite idol group's website. In the EN version, Idia threatens to doxx the mobs too (though he never does, this was just a localization decision). Yeah, you could do that I guess... but should you? 😭 The other characters also do questionable things (as a J word fan, I cannot deny this) but those actions are usually so outlandish no one irl would do it (like how Azul is a high school student that runs his own shady business). Idia's behavior, meanwhile, embodies some very real and very toxic aspects of fandom culture. I think part of why I disliked Idia at first is also his manner of speaking; it's riddled with so much internet lingo that it's hard to take him seriously sometimes. This is even more true of the EN version of the game, which has added even more slang than was in JP. Like... sorry, am I NOT supposed to be giggling when OB Idia is making threats while talking like an enraged gamer (both in EN and JP)? There is a ceiling on how much pathetic I can take in one sitting, and Idia far exceeds it every time he talks. Other characters (like Rollo making cheesy villain speeches, Azul being teased, Jamil's DOKKAN, etc.) have their moments of funny ha ha-cringe as well, but at least I can still see them in a serious light.

Books 6 and 7 are enhancing my opinion of Idia solely because they focus on the "traumatized big brother" part to his character. In Glorious Masquerade too... Idia gets the courage to call Rollo out because he knows their experiences are so similar. I think the storyline was done very well, and I loved seeing how Idia grows from an event that no doubt affected him deeply and still continues to influence him to this day. It's clear that he cares deeply about both Orthos and will step up to protect them. I LOVE THAT FOR HIM, it's not as though Idia is completely throwing aside one brother for the other, he's acknowledging them both as his "true" brothers. The way he goes from laughing to crying in his post-OB flashback... Idia getting so mad at us attacking Phantom Ortho with lightning... the willingness to "go" with OG!Ortho to the world beyond... apologizing to Robo!Ortho for falling for the dream's promises of eternal happiness... Aaaah, it's just too good 😭

yes it is against the rules to have more than one account. it doesnt matter if you only logged into it once. it doesnt matter if you funneled years ago. it doesnt matter if you didnt know. fr makes it super clear that it is one person, one account. if youve made more than one account, it is against the rules. fr is 13+. 13 year olds can understand this. so can adults.

there are only 8 bullet points under account in the terms of service. 3, 4, and 7 are part of what you agree to when you make a flightrising account.

if you dont have two accounts, then you arent going to get banned for multi accounting. it's really that simple.

How-To Tumblr for Dtblr :]

So, I've seen a few newer blogs start arriving from people who have never used this site/app before and I just thought this might be helpful to get started because it's quite a bit different from Twitter.

To start, the dtblr community has dwindled since last year so there are literally only about 500 of us left I'd say and thats being generous and including lurkers. Speaking of that, lurking is a great way to learn how to use this site! Follow a few blogs or lurk in the main tags for a while to get vibe of how people use this app. When you find a blog you like, see who they are reblogging from and check out their blogs, its a good way to find people to follow since people like to keep their follow lists private.

Making your blog! First things first, get a pfp and a basic bio at least or people will assume you are a bot and block you if you follow them.

On tumblr we have Main Blogs and Side Blogs. Everyone has one Main Blog, and you can add a bunch of side blogs, people use them to keep their fandoms separate and to save urls (don't hoard too many urls on blogs you dont use, it kinda sucks and is technically not allowed, but around 5-10 isnt so bad). A lot of people also might use side blogs because they dont want to get blocked by someone they are following or liking from that is in a different fandom. Like, if you wanted to follow blogs from other mcyt communities, I would stongly recommend making a dtblr side blog instead of a main, because you will most likely get blocked. There are a couple of differences between Main and Side blogs though, here is a link to the main tumblr help post about them but a couple quick things here-

-Main blogs are where you (and everyone else if you don't turn it off!) can see your likes and follows. Everything that you like or follow will show up under your Main blogs url, so keep that in mind.

-Main blogs are what you send Asks off anon from, you cannot send asks using your Side blogs url, so again, keep that in mind.

-When you block someone, it will only block them from your Main blog, you have to manually type in their url to block them from your Side blog. You can also ip block Anons who are being shitty or harassing you.

Lots of people will have Pinned Posts that you can basically use a longer bio (I recommend making them non-rebloggable). You don't have to make one and it's not weird if you don't, but you have the option. Lots of people have 'Blinkies' in their pinned, you can make them here if you want.

Tips for your settings!

-Hide your Likes and Follows!!! Even if you come from Twitter and you think it's not a big deal, it's kinda seen as really weird here to leave them visible and it makes you stand out and people weary of you, plus you should enjoy the privacy!

-Under Account, turn off 'show top posts'. You can also choose whether or not you want to allow Anon asks from there. if you are getting hate, I recommend turning them off for a while.

-I recommend going to Dashboard Preferences and turning Off 'best stuff first', and then turning On'shorten long posts' and 'snooze Tumblr live' (you will have to snooze tumblr live every 7 days but trust me basically everyone does it).

-This is actually pretty important, go to Account settings and turn OFF 'let people blaze my posts'. That feature allows other users, without your permission, to pay to have your post boosted as an ad basically to a certain amount of random people. this can even be done with your asks, and it has the potential to cause harassment and I strongly recommend turning it off.

-Under Account setting and Content you see, that is where you will be able to filter out tags that you do not want to see. For neg I would recommend, #neg #negativity, #discourse etc. If you don't want to see certain ships you can filter those. For stuff like spiders, I would do a couple variations of #spiders, #tw spiders, #spiders tw #arachnaphobia, etc. because there are a lot of different ways people will end up tagging stuff like that. This is also where you can change your Mature Content setting. They default to Hide, so set those as you prefer. You can Hide, Blur, or Show.

This is a link to the x-kit extension, it has a lot of customizable settings for tumblr, but it can only be used on desktop and requires a little more knowledge about using the site but its here if you want it.

I think those are the most important things, other settings can be left up to your personal preference (try out the color palettes to find your favorite!!)

Tags!

-Tags and Tagging are super useful on Tumblr! This post has a very good rundown of how Dtblr uses Tags to filter content for the community, pls learn these they will help you a bunch!!!

-When you make a post, the first 5 tags are the most important, they will show up in the tracked tags. So make sure you use community/main tags first if you want your posts to be seen, this is most useful for artists or gif makers etc.

-When you reblog a post, the tags are just for adding commentary and organizing your blog, you dont have to worry about your tags from a reblogged post ending up in the main tag searches. Talking in the tags is very fun and a great way for even shy people (me) to interact with the community. They are used a lot more than Replies, it tends to be mostly mutuals that use Replies on each other's posts, but it wouldn't exactly be weird if you did choose to comment in the Replies.

-You can use custom tags for your blog! Lots of people come up with custom tags for their asks, their personal posts, just pick your favorite variation of gnf, gogy, gogs, georgie, and many more to organize your george gifs! and its also pretty common to see someone post a . (just a lone period or comma) and then just rant in the tags. people do that if they want to vent or something but dont want it to be reblogged. - if someone reblogs a post and tags it with 'prev' they are referring to the tags of the person they reblogged the post from, the 'previous' tags. (tumblr recently nuked this feature with the new update but you might still see people doing it, its just super hard to find the source now)

-#709 and #404 are common tags that people will use on posts from outside of dtblr to stay covert/subtle so as to not get mass blocked when referencing our ccs. #709 refers to Dream and #404 to George.

-Tagging posts as #nsfw has the potential to get your blog restricted. I recommend using #nsft (not safe for tumblr) or #not sfw instead.

Etiquette

Liking and Reblogging- Tumblr does not have an algorithm, liking posts is basically just bookmarking them. If you want to support writers/authors/gif makers etc. PLEASE reblog their posts, it is the only way for them to gain visibility. You can even make sideblogs specifically for reblogging art or fanfiction if you wanted to.

We don't make call-out posts here. If you have a problem with a user, block them, end of story.

And we do NOT interact with Anti or Critblr posts. Critblr is tumblrs Leaktwt, do not interact with them, follow them, reblog from them, or bring attention to them, you will be blocked by the majority of the community if you do. We are very small, and interacting with anti posts will do absolutely nothing but bring us all mass harassment and invite them to start interacting with us. Pls do not screenshot their posts and share those either especially with the url visible. If you feel the need to have discussions with antis, do so on twitter. Please ask before screenshotting and uploading someone's post to twitter. A lot of us are not comfortable with it at all, and some of us are okay with it as long as you leave out the url but please ask because we generally dont want our stuff on that platform where CCs could potentially see it.

Hi. I know you've talked a lot about the jikook number theory, and I MAY have found something? Emphasis on the MAY because I was bored and my delulu mind became active for a little while(sorry, not sorry🙇‍♀️).

Anyway, I stumbled onto a k-army's post on twt, according to which, one of the posts made by JM on June 15th at 23:23 about waiting for 2 more hours, meaning the 16th, means it would be 1108 since still with you was released(5th June,2023).

Now, as I said I was bored and it was past midnight here so I checked and it wasn't 1108 days since SWY. 1108 days from that date would me 18th of June, 2023, the day JK posted two selcas on weverse.

But I did find a couple of coincidences and I maybe totally out of my mind, but hear me out for a sec!

1. JM's post on the 15th was at 23:23 KST. It contained something about waiting for just 2 more hours. Which would mean 1:23 KST. (Reference to the infamous 123 jikook theory)

2. JK's selcas on the 18th of June marks 1108 days since still with you and it was posted at 11:39 KST. The numbers are a combination of various things. 11, their speculated anniversary month, 13 JM's birthday and both of their fav number and even JK's birthday can be found.

Was I so bored that I just overanalysed it? Was it all just a coincidence?

I'd honestly love to know your thoughts as well!

JM's 23:23 post telling us to wait another 2 hours. I have to tell you that on the day that one puzzled me. I thought maybe something was coming, an announcement maybe. And when that didn't come I was baffled as to what was JM telling us. Was he waiting a couple of hours for JK to wake up? But then why mention it? JM is very precise as to what he mentions. Super calculated. There is always meaning behind it, even if we don't understand what that meaning is.

The whole thing with the 123 theory is that we think we know where it originated (might have meant something to them way before but that's the first time it's mentioned) - Festa 2014 JM's profile Just one day MV at 1:23 min. represents him best. JK was by his side while filling out that profile. Since then we have had song recommendations ending at 1:23 min., posts timed at 12:30 or 1:23 am, posts on January 23rd etc. We know there is very possibly something going on with that sequence of numbers, but what it is exactly or more so, what it means to them exactly, we don't know.

Anyway, 123 is a very interesting result, and I definitley wouldn't put it past JM that this is what he was aiming for.

Another path with the numbers is:

We have the 1 from the time.

If we take the 2+3+1+6+6=18

1+8=9

My Dear Gangster Oppa (Thurs iQIYI) 1 of 8 - Classic unlucky in love failed crush on straight bestie = both v queer and v emo yaoi. I gotta say I like these actors way better in this than their previous series, and maybe that’s because Tew is more like Tul and I just like Meen better when he’s… erm… mean. All of which is to say, this is off to a wonderful start and I am about to lose my very sleep deprived little mind... ready for a ABL ecstasy rant?

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH I CAN'T EVEN.

"I play support because that way everyone is happy to see me show up," might be the single best moment of characterization BL has EVER seen.

Look here, in the grand cornucopia of BL universes this is my metaverse. It's pulp... but relatively high production. It has an established pair that I know I like... but who were given crap before. It's a tidy little script, it's not gonna run too long, and it's ALL the archetypes and tropes I love but rarely see. It's Japan's style otaku plus Korea's style gangster, Thailand's style friendship group, and it arrived out of NOWHERE. It's Korea's IP & money, Thailand's talent, and China's streaming service.

Do we know what the hell is going on?

Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 11 of 12 - I managed to watch most of it on low rez before YT "discovered" I was in Asia and therefore could not be allowed to watch Asian shows. (AKA my VPN failed me.) But it seemed like a good ep.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) Lucky Love ep 10 of 24 - I enjoyed this 2 part installment, it’s a bit of a sad sack recovery SAGA, but the acting is genuine, the couple believable, and the story felt particularly queer to me. 7/10 but close to an 8. It was really quite charming.

However: Next week looks not good on many levels - it's horror and I spotted guitar. Which is even more horrific. 

Absolute Zero (Thai Weds iQIYI) ep 5 of 12 - do temporal paradoxes exist in Thailand? That is the question. I gotta say Tor (Ongsa) is carrying this show and is doing a really great job, it's just the story itself doesn't resonate with me. Ugh it's so sad.

Is it, indeed, better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

We only on ep 5 and had a full story arc already, there is A LOT more to go.

Venus in the Sky (Tues iQIYI) 9 of 10 eps - the fact that in losing Sky Venus also lost his surrogate family explains his resulting bitterness a little bit more. I wish we had gotten this back story much earlier. Still stupid pulp made me cry, which of course means it's back in my good books. This story is slow as fuck, but I'm going on a rollercoaster with it.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Kiseki: Dear to Me (Taiwan Tues Viki & iQIYI) ep 11 of 13(?) - I love them, okay? All of them. This is a great sappy classic Taiwanese BL and it is my baby and you can’t take it away from me. MINE. 

You Are Mine (Taiwan Fri Viki) eps 8 of 10 - oh noes it got sad, I thought they would at least would have had drunken sex before the drama. Sigh. Still the kissing was good, as it should be from Taiwan.

If It’s With You AKA Even If I Fall In Love With You AKA Kimi to nara Koi wo Shite Mite mo’ (Japan Gaga) ep 4 of 5 - Amane is so brave. About being gay. Being out. Confessing. Its admirable if scary. Otherwise this ep was pretty slow. 

Bump Up Business (Korea Gaga) 3-4 of 8 - how do I feel about this show? Conflicted. Are OnlyOneOf doing a great job? Yes, actually. Am I enjoying it? No, not really. Is this anyone's fault? I don't think so.

The little linguistic negotiation was cute tho. And we seem to have gotten idols kissing in a BL both in the same group, so that glass ceiling dildo has finally been broken.

NineMill are unexpectedly good, also KB plays a great evil ex. Of the 3, I think only Nine is good enough to go into acting permanently (but he's not tall enough). Still, all hail OnlyOneOf... kings of the "gay concept." You boys make me v nervous but as couple-branding goes, you just out branded Thailand. Mad props baibies. Legit never thought I'd see the day.

Trust Korea to be in it to win it.

Salaryman Ayumu Koiwai just can't tear his eyes away from the strong, muscular man as he checks on the stocks of the vending machine in his office.

One Room Angel (Japan Gaga) - adaptation of Harada’s manga of the same name (which I did not like) about a convenience store clerk who's stabbed, nearly dies, and returns home to find an angel waiting for him. With only 5 eps and a good chance this won’t end happy, I'm gonna wait and let you tell me how it goes.

Z herself has said how stressful this Challengers promo process is for her. It's not only her first theatrically released movie as a lead but it's also a movie that's not from an IP, it's the first screenplay for its writer, her costars are indie boys and not the prettiest guys, it's not a popular genre like sci-fi/fantasy/comedy/rom-com/thriller/horror, plus tennis is not a very popular sport for movies. She didn't pick an easy vehicle to promote. Some of us gain weight when we are highly stressed, other lose weight. We saw her during the Monaco game eating pizza and ice cream, so it's not that she's not eating, it's just that stress hormones are melting her fat. But she has people around her that care about her and I'm sure are advising her. There's a reason that she always calls Darnell her "grandma" making sure that she's eating well and getting proper sleep. Plus she's in LA with her whole family. We saw Zink with her at Kimmel yesterday. Let's just worry about people that don't have a support system to help them out

I know I tend to lose weight when I'm really stressed or anxious about smthg.... just due to not really having an appetite, and I'm sure my adrenalin is causing me to lose weight by speeding up my metabolism. It's happened to me before. 🤷🏾‍♀️ It's not that I wasn't eating, but that I wasn't eating as much as I usually would.... and losing 10-13 lbs on my already small frame was pretty drastic lol 😆

THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY MIND

I keep thinking things happened days ago when really it was today. Well technically yesterday since it's 2:30am but still. Like looking at my text messages and I'm just like wait what?!?!

Ughhh I keep mixing up the days. Like it feels like it's Sunday. Everything is just so confusing and last night I have absolutely no memory of making pizza in the oven. Like I can see a snapshot in my mind of it on the tray a little burnt. And a screenshot of half the pizza on a place on the counter with a plate on top.

But the scissors I apparently used to cut them... don't remember it but they're dirty on top of the pan. And actually eating the pizza???? Nope no memory. ANNNND there were chips in my bed this morning... At first I thought my cat had brought them in bed, I know this sounds funny but I'm serious. I thought maybe I had left a bowl out or something but nope, which means I brought them to bed. Don't remember it.

Things are starting to feel scary cause I don't like it. Like this whole pizza thing isn't like a normal "I can sort of remember it, it just feels fuzzy". No it's a complete blackout, just those two- just snap shots.

And I have a funny feeling the Ativan is contributing to it but I'm not saying a word about it to my doctor because I'm shocked and relieved he actually prescribed it.

I just paused this trying to remember how much I took and when and it started driving me crazy because I can't remember. Like last Tuesday I got 4 pills from my prescription they still had back in August. I had to go back the next day to get my week supply (7 pills). And I know I immediately just doubled the dose because I know 1mg doesn't do anything for me and yes I should have said this to him but I was just shocked he actually put something in so I'll mention it next time (plus I told my therapist there today so "they" know). Now between last Tuesday and today I can only remember taking 2 from the "4 pill pack". Then the next time I don't know why I didn't just finish the "4 pill pack" but I took 2 from the new "7 pack". Yesterday as in Sunday was bad because I took 2 pills before going out for a walk with my Nana and later that night I took 3 pills. But I don't remember when I took the other 2....

Alright, it's about time for me to explain my worldbuilding project. This will be the first part exploring the original "spark" that ignited this world. The big bang you could call it. (Look below the cut for drawings. No gore or anything, just cute creature designs. If there is any gore or anything like that I'll put it in the tags like "body horror", "gore", "nsfw", or others like that).

So these dragons were made in 2019 (not these particular drawings, just the dragon designs). I wanted to learn how to draw dragons and a friend showed me how. I took it from there and played with the body plans. I liked it and kept improving with time.

These 7 dragons are known as elementals because they can all hybridized within each other and have a specific element to them. As you've already read, they all have their own features and niches. You might have also noticed some dragons look very similar to other IPs. I'm fixing that by creating new designs that fit the creature better as my art skills have greatly improved since I first made these creatures.

None of the elementals are technically from Earth even though all but one can only be found here. They have the ability to somewhat control their element. Some of them control their element as an extension of themselves. This can be seen in Hydro dragons and fire dragons who can can handle and move their element (not as well as element bending in atla). Others use their element as part of their anatomy. Think of light dragons. They cannot control light itself, but have a bioluminescence aspect of themselves.

Interactions between elementals do exist, but in an interesting way that relates to how their elements would react in nature. So air and fire would be good friends or worst enemies depending on the aggressiveness of wind. Plant and fire don't usually interact, but sometimes they do as a means to reproduce. Fire and water have a love/hate relationship.

Hybrids can have aspects of their parent species, but not always. Some traits will be inherited more than others. This creates variety in hybrid species that is not seen in their parent species. What I mean by that is there could be 20 plant x water hybrids all around the world that look and act nothing alike. The same goes for other Elemental combinations. These hybrids are also less capable of reproducing with other elementals and hybrids of other sorts.

I'll go into more detail about hybrids later on. Plus as I make the redesigns for some (not planning on redesigning all) the elementals, I'll post them here as well. None of us really know either way, but I do remember speculation in the mid-late 2010s re: whether or not the TF2 comics were leading into something space-related (between what happened to Sniper's mom, the spaceships located in several in-game maps, and the perpetually-unfinished valve map rd_asteroid that used to be in the game's playable map rotation). Entirely guesswork, plus a dash of hope that Valve would continue the storyline post-comics.

:\ yeah, though, ultimately… the comics really shook up the status quo of the game and the established setting, but it's hard to see what conclusion they could've been barrelling toward. Real intrigued by that comics/Helen infographic you posted a few days ago -- I've likewise been puzzling over what Helen's debt could be (for all of the comics' hiatus and then some, lmao). Either way, I don't believe there's enough foreshadowing for us to have figured out whatever-it-is, and then there's the eternal question of "What Comes After?" (both in-universe and regarding Valve's seemingly-dwindling interest in the IP) looming over it all.

(like tumblr user milfy, I'm not really sure what comic 7 could've done to conclude things in a satisfactory way. ngl, sometimes I wish we'd gotten something set during gravel war or mvm -- at the risk of sounding overly critical, I'll admit I personally feel like the fandom missed out on getting some more gravel war era/group-focused content.

though with the then-ongoing [and, hell, somehow-currently-ongoing] status of the game itself, I also feel like the comics ending on too Final a conclusion would've soured some folks' milk. perhaps this is why I continue to entertain the "it was leading into another update" train of thought -- the idea of the comics smacking a big old super-conclusive "The End" onto everything seems unlikely to me, but I cannot fathom what would have come afterwards. or how any currently-raised plot threads would be resolved, if at all.)

… This ask was a whole lotta reiteration/conjecture, so I want to add that I love the TF2 stuff you've been drawing/writing. The classic team and Conagher family lore are so, so fascinating to me, so it's been Like Christmas Morning to me for months lmao. have a good one -🍊

oh man, I would've loved to have more stuff that actually delved into developing the characters during the Gravel wars/MvM... hell, they could've even played off the Scream Fortress shenanigans and have like, a big, ridiculous magical adventure

there's part of me that wants to hope they had some idea of what they were doing but the more I look at it, the more the plot feels like it dissolved more into "stuff that feels really big and important happening" rather than one coherent mystery to unravel, which... the journey should also be important. This is the stuff people criticize Marvel movies for, the twist becomes more important than the actual story. Putting all the eggs in that basket.

I definitely agree... idk like. I think they even could've gotten away with having different canons and not feeling like they had to pin the ultimate resolution of the entire game to the comic, either. Comics can be like that! Different iterations and interpretations of the same universe, that's cool too! IPs get revised and retconned and improved all the time, tbh I think like... the current obsession people have with canonicity can be grating at times.

I think in some ways it's even harder to get past that with an inconclusive work like this because yeah, it does end up being that everyone hopes whatever the conclusion is will be worth the wait, that it'll scratch that itch, and the longer folks go imagining some grand conclusion the higher expectations end up being. You can't really blame them either, at a point, because that's all they really have to go off.
