While the breakup was inevitable (especially if you read the comics), I think the show handled it phenomenally with it being even better than how it was done in the comics. Steven Yeun and Zazie Beetz absolutely killed it in this scene with you really being able to hear the heartbreak in both of their voices as Mark and Amber realize that for as much as they love each other, they can't make this relationship work. Then you have the "I can't live in your world, I want to, but I can't." which👏👏👏. That is some absolute peak writing. I haven't consumed many stories that actually treat the breakup as a heartbreaking moment for both characters involved since it's usually just treated as a minor obstacle to prevent the main romance from happening sooner. While I'm fine with that in some cases, I feel like it's a disservice when the main character's temporary love interest is a genuinely interesting and fun character who has a good rapport with them. In that same regard, it has been a nice change of pace to see characters who do care for each other attempt to make things work and talk about the issues before accepting that what they have just isn't going to work.

It's also a good commentary on the nature of superhero/civilian relationships since while someone like Debbie was able to handle the stress of it, Amber isn't able to do so. And that doesn't make her weak or a pushover, it makes her human because not everyone is built to handle that kind of life and it's totally understandable.

What happened to William?

Today marked the day Mark Grayson got his powers. Life was finally looking up at him and maybe just maybe he’s father will finally be proud of him.

Months went by and he went into full training mode. His father hasn’t been easy on him. And why should he? He needs to live up to the name of [title card]. However strange things have been happening. Mark's father has been acting strange. Not only that he’s teammates have been killed and he’s the only survivor but Nolan says they’ve been attacked yet his costume and the way he acts begs a difference.

Unfortunately, Mark Grayson isn’t picking up on that he’s too focused on the fact he might have feelings for his best friend William. Scratched that he finally figured out he did have feelings for him and they sure as hell weren’t just like.

Thankfully the first person Mark has told is Amber and Amber has been nothing but supportive. Also because she knew all along. No straight guy would love Sabrina as much as he did. Amber has been helping Mark try to confess his love to him and today was the day. The day he told William how he felt.

Unfortunately, Nolan Grayson had a different plan a very sinister one….

Nolan Grayson

Nolan is looking for his son. He’s looking to complete his mission of taking over Earth in preparation for the Viltrumites empire. He finally prepared his son for the battle to prove he was worthy to join the empire and hopefully, he’ll be worthy enough to carry the mission. Now he just needed to find his son. However, Nolan was feeling something he was feeling dread. Why the hell would he feel that? He needed to carry out this mission it’s his duty for crying out loud. So why now feel these stupid weak emotions?

However, the thought was cut short when he saw Mark's “best friend” car.

Nolan was covered in blood from all the people he killed previous to this but he didn’t care all he wanted was to find where his son was.

“William where’s Mark” Nolan asked with so much hate. Why was he getting so mad at himself? Oh and poor William had no idea what was waiting for him at the end of this conversation. “ I’m not sure Mr Grayson I came looking for him” William was scared and you could tell by his voice. He tried so hard to ignore the blood. Ignore the fact that his’s best friend dad is covered head to toe in blood. “ Mr Grayson is that …. Your blood?” And well Nolan couldn’t give a flying fuck if he was scared.

Instead, Nolan got mad

“Is this my blood of course not now William I’m going to ask one more time WHERE IS MY SON” Nolan yelled while ripping William's car door open and grabbing him by the neck. “ I swear I don’t- … know “Poor William he can never catch a break. Nolan on the other hand was pisser and snapped William's neck and then threw him to the ground and kept doing that. Picking William up and throwing him back down to the floor until there was nothing left of him. He was like a run-over rodent in the middle of the street. Nolan on the other hand? His anger had finally been unleashed but on the wrong person. At least Mark didn’t see him do it or did he?

Mark

Mark was flying around the City taking Amber and his mother into a safe place. He just needed to find William and then he’ll comfort his father. Poor Mark all he wanted to do was tell William how he felt.

Mark was flying back home when he saw it. William's car and his “father standing in the middle of a pool of blood. Oh god oh god oh god Mark kept repeating that in his head. He saw the way Mark's father flew away in a pool of blood that was his.

Make flew down so quickly to check to pray that William was ok. But only an idiot would believe that William was alive. Even if you could call him William. He was unrecognizable. Nolan smacked him in the ground so many times that he’s face was falling apart and he’s arms were bent the wrong way and he lost his damn leg.

“ oh god William oh god”

Mark didn’t know how to feel. He felt so fucking empty and sad and anger he couldn’t place his finger on it. He tried to hold William but his body was falling apart there was no point. No one could bring him back wait maybe just maybe Cecil can.

“ CECIL I NEED YOU HERE I NEED YOU TO BRING HIM BACK PLEASE” Well of course Cecil comes but even he knows there is nothing that can be done to save him. However, Cecil has a different motive in mind one that ended with either Mark or Nolan dead and he prayed to god it would be Nolan.

“You know you can make Nolan pay… You are the strongest hero we have. So Mark makes him pay for the lives he’s taken make him pay for William's life…. Show Nolan Grayson he messed with the wrong person and that he killed the wrong person show him why he wouldn’t cross [title card]

And you know what that’s exactly what Mark Grayson did. He killed his father and took half the city with him. However that wasn’t enough more people have to pay for his death. Everyone in this damn city had to pay for what the had done to the love of his life.

Sorry, not sorry, but as soon as I hear someone hating on Amber for having a valid reaction towards Mark, I walk away even more so when some Invincible writers depict her (and Eve, but this is about Amber) as the "villain." Like you guys are not slick. It's especially annoying when, the "big reason" people say they hate her is because she wasn't understanding to him being a superhero don't acknowledge that they were 1.) Dating for two years and he kept canceling on her with poor excuses, 2.) That moment she snapped at him was following hee surviving an attack while during a campus tour. She was within her rights to be on edge! It's even more frustrating that the same thing people hate on Amber for, are now the same things that they are trying to justify for Mark with him not even caring about saving the world or being a superhero because Eve got hurt and she's his main focus. So when a female character wants her superhero boyfriend to be more attentive, she's unreasonable and called every name in the book. But when a male character is willing to risk world and others getting hurt just because his girlfriend was injured, he's just going through things and has a lot on his plate. Hmm. (To clarify, I'm not saying that Mark shouldn't be allowed to express his emotions especially when he has such a burden on his shoulders, but it's also unfair to dismiss Amber when she was in a similar standing, especially when she did try for the longest to be understanding to Mark).

i forgot about oliver (definitely a straight up changeling) and probably a bunch of other characters because i've only seen two episodes but hell yeah this is proof mlp au goes legendary with ANYTHING. rest assured i will be doing this once i start The Boys as well.

tbh people were way too hard on amber in s1 like when i first watched it, yeah i was mad at her but i also understood why she was upset with mark. as shes not upset that hes saving people but more of the fact that she keeps getting ditched and ghosted for their dates that shes setting up btw.

this is something i think that people dont understand about amber being mad, shes the one constantly reaching out to mark and planning their dates, meeting up at school, the soup kitchen, the date when they were walking around the market place. that was all of her doing. and whenever mark ditches her (even if its to go fight someone or smth) yeah it hurts and its annoying even if its a good reason.

think of it like this, you have a friend that you really like hanging out with. but when it comes to meetups they always cancel or show up at the very last minute because something came up and something genuinely came up. whether it be helping someone or another event that they forgot about. so you have to be the one to schedule another meeting...

that they eventually miss and then rinse and repeat. its pretty damn hard not to get mad at someone for doing that (i had a friend who kept doing that for a while and we talked it out and are better now). and even with amber who is just a teenager yeah shes gonna get a little mad. and i dont think that people realized that she said 'i know youre a superhero' not that 'i know youre invincible' she knew that he was a superhero (i think they shouldve said suspected as that wouldve changed a LOT) but she didnt know which one or what he did.

anyways back to the ditching thing, to her mark is putting no effort into the relationship and from her end that sucks as she does know that hes trying and wants to do good but to her its just not working out and shes getting affected by this a lot. then there was the sinclair thing and... okay that was just bad writing-

anyways i think people got way too mad at her for practically no reason. she wasnt upset that 'oh you didnt go to the soup kitchen!!' she was upset that she was basically an afterthought in marks's life (someone who she puts first and cares DEEPLY for). and thats reasonable. now do i think the way she was written could use some tweaking to get the same message across? yeah but it still serves its purpose so whatever
