Could you please explain to me what 'Jobbing' means in your metas. Thanks.

It's a wrestling term that is used to refer to when one fighter is meant to lose to another, simply because their bosses want to make the other guy look good. It refers to a wrestler "doing the job" of losing to make someone else look good. Recent example:

Zdarsky wants to make Failsafe look tough and smart so he has him kick Superman's ass. Clark "jobs" by losing when he really shouldn't, but he's just a narrative prop to establish Failsafe as tough. Hence he's "done the job" he was meant to.

DAMIAN'S BABY AND BEASTY BESTIE!! On a mission during the Year of Blood, Damian kills the family of bat dragons guarding his objective. Goliath, despite being the youngest and last of his kind, forgives Damian. Goliath goes on to become one of Damian's most loyal companions, even featuring beside him in Batman Beyond (2016) #10, #11, #43-#47!

TITUS THE DOG

Introduced in: BATMAN AND ROBIN (2011) #2

A Great Dane gifted to Damian from Bruce as an effort in fatherhood. Funny enough, Damian finds him a nuisance at first and briefly refers to him as "Dog". Titus is a good boy that follows Damian's every step, even joining Bruce on his mission to resurrect Damian!

BAT-COW THE COW

Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #1

Bat-Cow, branded with a star signifying which cattle were contaminated, was saved from a slaughterhouse to run some tests (which they do find of a mind control variety). Damian declares himself a vegetarian, and calls her Bat-Cow! She also sorta has a running gag of literally standing in the face of danger to save the day.

ALFRED THE CAT

Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #6

Considered a "hopeless case" by the animal shelter, Alfred gifts him to Damian. The cat is a bold lil guy, which Damian takes an immediate liking to, and names him Alfred (likely because tuxedo cat = butler lol). After hours of chicken, playtime, and scratches, Damian and Alfred become friends! He makes his first appearance alongside Damian’s first appearance as Batman in BATMAN (1940) #666

*JERRY THE TURKEY

The Penguin unleashes an army of turkeys at the Gotham Thanksgiving parade which Damian turns into his own li'l turkey march by playing the trumpet. He ends up bringing one of them back for Thanksgiving dinner (as a friend), and Jerry becomes a fairly regular appearance in the world of Li'l Gotham!

*WIGGLES THE DRAGON

Introduced in: NIGHTWING (2016) #42

A sort of filler issue where Damian has been kidnapped for his blood by the "Crimson Kabuki" in Tokyo, and Dick goes through a series of boss battles to save him. The dragon's blood has been the group's main source of power, so it ends up teaming with the duo, and returns home with them.

Wiggles was originally named by a fan, "Shanootnoot" on Twitter!

*Goliath, Titus, Bat-Cow, and Alfred the cat have been Damian's main canon cast of furry companions, but SUPER-PETS SPECIAL: BITEDENTITY CRISIS (2024) may have just added Jerry and Wiggles!!

You know I've been drawing Loop as their Siffrin form so much that it's got me thinking. I've read and seen so many fics and artworks of Loop eventually getting back to looking like their old self, but I don't think I've seen any so far of Loop already being a mirror copy of Siffrin. So uh, yoink?

ISAT AU where the game plays out the same way (plot-wise at least) but Loop looks like Siffrin the whole time and while Siffrin is extremely perplexed that there's another him, he's still gotta accept their help because how else are they supposed to escape the loops? Good ol' Loop is here to help, helpful friendly Loop!

So, was just thinking about it. DC really tried to push more diversity in their comics. Future State was literally about that, and also they made Tim's coming out as bisexual a really big deal. But it seems like, that all of that failed financially. Do you think it's because comicbook audience doesn't really want diversity in comics at all, or it's bad creative and lack of marketing?

Direct market has typically not been supportive of efforts to broaden the audience beyond the white straight males who have historically formed the core. There have been a few exceptions - Milestone in the 90s sold quite well I understand, Ms. Marvel (Kamala) had stronger sales than Carol - but those seem to be aberrations. Even creators have acknowledged that the calls for diversity don't seem to be backed up with actual sales. Liking a tweet or reposting a tumblr post saying DC/Marvel should be better at representation, has not translated into actual sales when efforts were made.

But that doesn't mean there isn't an audience out there, it just means you can't reach them through the LCS. Take for example Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Her monthly sales were soft, but in trades she found her audience. On Amazon the recent announcement of a movie caused a huge surge in sales, and now the book is sold out. Kamala sold strongly digitally, at least for a while. The YA OGN market has been a place where the Teen Titans have done very well, while they struggle for relevance in the direct market. Gene Yang has never been a huge deal in the direct market, but his graphic novels sell exceptionally well to schools and libraries.

Didio for all his flaws recognized that efforts needed to be made to reach people who will never be Weds Warriors. Javins has continued that push with stuff like Webtoon. I don't believe that Tim Drake for example will ever be a big deal again in the direct market. If they were to make a Webtoon or a YA OGN instead? Then maybe he could succeed. Webtoons, YA OGNs, that's where I would be focusing any pushes for diversity.

I have an absolutely desperate need for Danny to visit Wally at his house and meet his neighbor: Buddy Baker aka Animal Man and for the two to become friends and to compare stories of going to different dimensions. One may be True Body Horror You're Made Of Meat/The Red dimension and the other is Everything Is Green and Purple Everything Is Dead And Direction And Time Has no Meaning/Infinite Realms dimension but somehow they can relate to the other's experience. Danny now comes over regularly for barbecues and to babysit Buddy's kids.
