The country I live in is on fire with millions of acres destroyed and thousands of people evacuated. This is potentially the 2nd time in 4 years that people will loose everything they have (as the 2019 Canadian wildfires were also horrendous). Millions are suffering displacement, homelessness, and health risks due to the wildfires across the country. I live in British Columbia and I remember 2019. This is so much worse. The ENTIRE country is pretty much on fire.
And what do the people of the U.S.A immediately say? “Blame Canada!” “We need to invade them bc clearly something is wrong up there” “Canada fucking sucks!” “Ugh, here is my Timelapse of how smokey the sky is, but apparently it will be gone in 2 days.”
Well Americans aren’t the ones who have to deal with the LITERAL GIANT FIRES SCORCHING THEIR NEIGHBOURHOODS AND FORESTS! They don’t have to pack up everything they own and hope, JUST HOPE, they come back and their homes aren’t burnt to the ground. They don’t have to hope their communities aren’t entirely destroyed. They don’t have to worry if their friends, families, and animals are okay. They are not the ones trapped due to roads being closed and heavy debris falling as the fires become uncontrollable. And they only seem to care when it is them on fire. But if another country is? They don’t fucking bat an eye, and yet the rest of the world helps them when they are in need.
So instead of complaining Americans, how about you fucking help for once? We are thankful you sent some of your firefighters to help us, but in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t enough. The U.S.A as a country is the 2nd biggest C02 producer in the world, which heavily contributes to the worsening of climate change, hence the wildfires. But Americans seem to forget this little fact. They forget that their politics and their environmental policies have literally fucked the rest of the world. So stop being so fucking selfish and actually help for once by contacting your local, state, and federal government(s). Stop voting for absolute idiots that want climate change to worsen so their pockets can be filled. Help by spreading information that will help those impacted, volunteer if you can, and maybe consider donating if you have the means. Or at least have some goddamn compassion and sympathy.
Here are some ways you can help:
• United Way for the Northwest Territories
All money donated goes to those affected by the wildfires in the NWT. Every donation is matched by the Federal Canadian and NWT governments.
• The Canadian Red Cross
All donations go towards those most impacted by wildfires across the Canadian Maritimes "with immediate and ongoing relief, recovery and resilience efforts in response to the wildfires, as well as supporting community preparedness and risk reduction for future all-hazard disaster events within Atlantic Canada”. The Federal Canadian and Nova Scotia provincial government have committed to matching each $1 donation to become $3.
• Donate A Mask
This organization ships free N95 respirator equivalent masks across Canada to those affected by the wildfires and for those who cannot afford high-quality and high-grade medical masks.
• Firefighters Without Borders
Firefighters Without Borders is a organization based in Ontario that provides equipment and training to local firefighters and communities across Canada. This helps in fighting current and future wildfires and promotes prevention. It also supports local firefighters to host and provide equipment to international firefighters when Canada needs assistance.
• Odawa Native Friendship Centre
The Odawa Native Friendship Centre is an organization serving the Ottawa-Carleton region in Ontario by helping Indigenous peoples that have had to evacuate their homes due to the wildfires. They accept money donations and usually accept clothing donations as well, but they are not taking clothing items at this time.
• The Central Okanagan Food Bank BC Wildfires Emergency Food Relief Fund
This organization donates much needed food to those impacted by the wildfires who are currently facing food insecurity. They have expanded to helping the entire province as the wildfires have spread.

Good Samaritan Day & International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Day & National Day for Failure & International Suit Up Day
Person A is someone who’s powers replenish by failing, so they are able to be seen as clumsy and useless in their real life and once they’d built up enough failures to pull off a great feat, dons their hero costume, and because of the stark difference between their civilian self and their effortless grace of their hero self, no one is suspicious. But they can’t consistently be their hero self due to the nature of their powers, and is often more of an impressive backup hero who the main heroes call in for help every so often. Person B is a backup villain because their powers have their own restriction, but based around acts of service and kindness. Person B spends their daily civilian life helping out everyone they meet and volunteering and doing charity work, but can only manage to be so nice and patient and sweet because once enough displays of kindness have been built up, they have to release an act of devastation, and decided they would rather have people adore their civilian self and think well of them, than walk the line between good person and bad person in their daily life to avoid random outbursts of evil. Person B often spends their time taking care of Person A’s various clumsiness induced injuries and problems their uselessness causes and so the two end up being fairly close in their civilian lives and have never met in their hero and villain forms since they’re so far down the backup call list. Until they finally do.

“The situation was intolerable long before last October’s escalation and is beyond catastrophic now.”
People in Gaza are only eating one meal every other day as 83 percent of required food aid does not make it into the besieged enclave due to Israel’s blockade, aid organizations have said.
“While Israeli military attacks on Gaza intensify, lifesaving food, medicine, medical supplies, fuel, and tents have been systematically blocked from entering for almost a year,” a statement signed by 15 organizations including CARE International, Oxfam, Islamic Relief, the Norwegian Refugee Council and KinderUSA, said.
This is “driving a humanitarian disaster, with the entire population of Gaza facing hunger and disease, and almost half a million at risk of starvation.”
The organizations said “83% of required food aid does not make it into Gaza, up from 34% in 2023,” emphasizing that this “reduction means people in Gaza have gone from having an average of two meals a day to just one meal every other day.”

Why Logistics BPO is the Future of Supply Chain Management
Tumblr media
In today’s globalized and fast-paced business environment, supply chain management has become more complex than ever. To stay competitive, companies are constantly looking for ways to optimize their logistics operations. One solution that has gained significant traction is Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) for logistics. Logistics Bpo Services involve delegating various tasks like inventory management, transportation, warehousing, and customer support to third-party providers. This approach is increasingly proving to be a game-changer for companies aiming to streamline their operations, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency. In this blog, we will explore why Logistics BPO is the future of supply chain management.
1. Cost Efficiency and Scalability
One of the most significant advantages of adopting Logistics BPO services is the reduction in operational costs. By outsourcing non-core logistics tasks, companies can eliminate the need for in-house infrastructure, labor, and technology investments. BPO providers typically operate in regions where labor and operational costs are lower, allowing businesses to save on overhead expenses. Furthermore, Logistics Bpo offers scalability. Companies can easily scale up or down their operations based on demand fluctuations without having to invest heavily in new resources.
Outsourcing logistics processes also minimizes the risks associated with labor shortages and fluctuating operational costs. By leveraging the expertise and resources of a logistics BPO provider, businesses can maintain high service levels even during peak seasons or unforeseen disruptions.
2. Access to Advanced Technology and Expertise
From real-time tracking to data analytics and artificial intelligence, advanced technologies are transforming the way logistics operations are managed. However, not all companies have the resources to invest in these cutting-edge tools. This is where Logistics BPO comes into play.
Outsourcing logistics to BPO providers gives companies access to state-of-the-art technologies and specialized expertise. BPO providers leverage cloud-based platforms, automated systems, and data analytics to optimize supply chain processes, improve visibility, and enhance decision-making. For instance, Logistics Call Center Outsourcing allows businesses to provide 24/7 customer support, ensuring that queries related to shipment tracking, delivery updates, and order management are addressed promptly. This high level of customer service can significantly improve client satisfaction and brand loyalty.
3. Enhanced Focus on Core Competencies
Logistics BPO services free up valuable time and resources that would otherwise be spent on managing day-to-day supply chain operations. This focus on core competencies enables businesses to innovate, drive growth, and gain a competitive edge in their respective industries.
By delegating logistics tasks to BPO experts, companies benefit from specialized knowledge and expertise that can enhance the efficiency of their supply chain operations. Logistics BPO providers typically have access to the latest technologies and industry best practices, ensuring that businesses receive top-notch services without having to invest in expensive in-house training and development.
4. Improved Risk Management and Compliance
The global nature of supply chains makes them susceptible to a wide range of risks, from political instability and natural disasters to fluctuating market conditions and regulatory changes. Logistics BPO providers have extensive experience in managing these risks and ensuring compliance with international regulations.
By outsourcing logistics tasks, companies can mitigate risks related to delays, regulatory fines, and legal disputes. BPO providers are well-versed in handling customs clearance, tariff regulations, and other compliance issues, reducing the likelihood of supply chain disruptions. Additionally, many Logistics BPO providers offer contingency planning and risk mitigation strategies, enabling businesses to respond swiftly to unexpected challenges.
Conclusion
In conclusion, adopting Logistics BPO services is no longer just an option but a necessity for companies looking to future-proof their supply chain management. By leveraging the expertise of BPO providers, businesses can focus on their core competencies while ensuring that their logistics operations run smoothly. From cost savings to risk management, logistics call center outsourcing and other BPO services are paving the way for the future of supply chain management.

Week 12: Crowd sourcing in times of crisis
Tumblr media
When I hear about crowdsourcing in times of crisis, I'm struck by how it transforms individuals into active participants in disaster response. It's no longer just about authorities and experts; it's about everyday people using their skills and resources to make a difference.
The Gulf Coast oil spill shows how powerful crowdsourcing can be. Regular people, just using their smartphones and the internet, were able to share important data and information that helped with the response. This kind of involvement is amazing and shows how everyday citizens can make a big difference during crises.
In April 2010, the Gulf Coast of the United States, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, faced a big environmental disaster when the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded. The explosion killed 11 workers and caused a huge oil spill that lasted 87 days, letting millions of barrels of oil flow into the Gulf of Mexico. (Pallardy 2024) This spill hurt sea animals, coastal areas, and local businesses. The oil reached beaches and wetlands, damaging places where fish and birds live and breed. The fishing and tourism industries lost a lot of money because of the polluted waters and closed beaches. Many people, including government agencies, companies, and volunteers, had to work together to clean up the mess.
Tumblr media
In response to the crisis, crowdsourcing played a crucial role in monitoring the spill's impact and coordinating cleanup efforts. One example is the use of citizen science initiatives, where volunteers collected data and observations on the spill's effects on wildlife, water quality, and shoreline contamination. This data was then shared online through platforms like the Gulf Oil Spill Tracker, allowing researchers and responders to access real-time information and make informed decisions. (National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) 2021)
Social media also played a significant role in crowdsourcing during the Gulf Coast oil spill. Platforms like Twitter and Facebook were used to share information about the spill, coordinate volunteer efforts, and connect affected communities with resources and support. (Beedasy et al. 2020)
The use of crowdsourcing in response to the Gulf Coast oil spill demonstrates the power of collective action in times of crisis. By harnessing the collective efforts of volunteers and leveraging online technologies, we can improve the speed and effectiveness of our response efforts, ultimately mitigating the impact of disasters on our communities and environment.

World Civil Defence Day
World Civil Defence Day, observed annually on March 1st, serves as a global reminder of the critical importance of civil protection and emergency preparedness. This day not only honors the dedication and sacrifice of civil defence organizations and volunteers but also underscores the need for collective action in ensuring the safety and resilience of communities worldwide.
Civil defence has evolved significantly over the years, adapting to the changing nature of threats and emergencies. Initially conceived during times of war to protect civilians from military attacks, civil defence now encompasses a broader spectrum of challenges, including natural disasters, pandemics, terrorism, and technological hazards.
One of the central themes of World Civil Defence Day is the emphasis on preparedness. Communities that are well-prepared and equipped to respond effectively to emergencies are better positioned to minimize loss of life and property. Preparedness efforts include developing evacuation plans, conducting drills, investing in early warning systems, and educating the public about emergency procedures.
Civil defence organizations play a pivotal role in safeguarding communities before, during, and after emergencies. These organizations coordinate response efforts, provide essential services such as search and rescue, medical assistance, and shelter management, and collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and volunteers to ensure a comprehensive and efficient response.
Empowering communities to take an active role in their own safety is fundamental to effective civil defence. World Civil Defence Day serves as an opportunity to engage with communities, raise awareness about potential hazards, and promote individual and collective actions to mitigate risks. By fostering a culture of resilience and preparedness, communities can become more self-reliant and better able to withstand and recover from disasters.
Disasters and emergencies transcend borders, underscoring the importance of international cooperation and solidarity. On World Civil Defence Day, countries around the world come together to share best practices, exchange resources, and strengthen global partnerships for disaster risk reduction and emergency response.
As we commemorate World Civil Defence Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to building safer, more resilient communities. By prioritizing preparedness, investing in civil defence capabilities, and fostering collaboration at all levels, we can mitigate the impact of emergencies and ensure a more secure future for generations to come.

NEWS ARTICLE: Typhoon Egay
Egay devastates Northern Luzon: Damage to agriculture, infrastructure hits P2.1B
By: Mariella Angela H. Olden (August 18, 2023 | 2:04 PM)
MANILA, Philippines — Super Typhoon Egay hit the Philippines and damaged agriculture and infrastructure across Northern Luzon, reaching over P2.1 billion, as reported last Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
Within the first two days, initial reports indicate that towns in Luzons have experienced severe losses to their agricultural sector, amounting to P3.1 million. Meanwhile, reports show that Egay wreaked havoc resulting in infrastructure damages, including homes and businesses, projected to be around P1.2 billion.
Egay (international name: Doksuri), the 5th cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, devastated at least 582,288 residents from 45 provinces across 13 regions in Luzon with continuous rain, widespread flooding, and strong winds. The aftermath made communities begin to grapple while recovery efforts were in full swing to aid those affected by the typhoon.
According to the report of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the economic toll of the typhoon is staggering, with initial estimates of P832.8 million in losses to livestock and poultry and crops like corn and rice.
Oxfam Pilipinas Executive Director Erika Geronimo said they had kept track of the situation since the first day. Government agencies, national and local organizations have united to provide immediate assistance and relief to those affected. They expect the number of affected residents to rise in the next few days.
The extent of the devastation is particularly evident in Baggao, Cagayan, where Super Typhoon Egay destroyed most crops, and power outages have occurred.
Oxfam Pilipinas and their partner, the People's Disaster Risk Reduction Network (PDRRN), urge to strengthen evacuation centers' health and safety protocols amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic. Authorities continue to work tirelessly to provide emergency relief and shelter to those in need.

World Tsunami Awareness Day
Fighting inequality for a resilient future
Tsunamis pose a significant threat to all of us, but they are particularly dangerous for certain groups of people, such as women, children, people with disabilities, and older persons. The main objective of this year's World Tsunami Awareness Day is to raise consciousness about reducing the risks created by these giant waves and improving community preparedness.
Although tsunamis are infrequent, they can have devastating consequences. In the last century, only 58 tsunamis have occurred, but they have claimed over 260,000 lives. On average, each disaster has caused the death of 4,600 people, more than any other natural hazard (United Nations, 2022).
This year's World Tsunami Awareness Day theme is "Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future," which mirrors the subject highlighted during the International Day for Disaster Reduction. The observance encourages all sectors of society to engage and collaborate on disaster risk reduction.
The activities during this observance aim to explore the relationship between tsunamis and inequality. Specifically, they focus on how inequality can make tsunamis more dangerous for certain populations and how the aftermath of a tsunami can drive vulnerable people further into poverty, thus worsening inequality.
"Persistence and resilience only come from having been given the chance to work through difficult problems."

World Calamity Control Day also known as The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was started in 1989, after a call by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction. In 2009, the UNGA officially designated 13 October as the date to commemorate the Day.

[ad_1] Earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanic activity and other natural disasters regularly cause destruction and the loss of life in parts of the Caribbean. On the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction marked annually on 13 October, UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq and Nahuel Arenas, regional chief of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) consider the connection between disasters and inequality.“In the Caribbean, we share a deep understanding of the intricate link between disasters and inequality. It's a narrative of uneven access to crucial resources, leaving the most vulnerable exposed to the impacts of disasters. When disasters strike, they disproportionately affect marginalized communities, exacerbating existing inequalities and pushing them deeper into poverty.   © UN Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq (left) visits St. Vincent and the Grenadines six months after the volcanic eruption. Fighting inequality is critical to build a stronger and safer future for everyone. Interconnected challenges The region faces a range of challenges today—economic uncertainties, widening disparities, supply chain disruptions, energy shortages, price surges, and inflation—all of which cast shadows on economies and livelihoods and worsens the impact of disasters. According to the UNDRR’s Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction, globally disasters will push an additional 100.7 million people into poverty by 2030 and an estimated 37.6 million more people will be living in conditions of extreme poverty due to the impacts of climate change. Recent research paints a stark picture: the poorest bear the heaviest burden when disasters strike. For instance, the deadliest recent disaster in the Caribbean, the Port-au-Prince Earthquake in 2010, impacted the poorest country of the region: Haiti; and its long-term impacts continue to be visible more than a decade later.   A man walks through the rubble of collapsed buildings in downtown Port au Prince, Haiti, following the earthquake in January 2010. Between 1970 and 2019, a staggering 91 per cent of all deaths caused by weather, climate, and water hazards occurred in developing countries like the Caribbean. Similarly, the World Bank reports that 82 per cent of disaster-related deaths occurred in low and lower-middle-income countries. Cycles of inequality Approximately 75 per cent of extreme weather events are now linked to climate change, primarily fueled by carbon emissions. Ironically, those experiencing the most severe losses from disasters are often those who have contributed the least to the problem. In essence, inequality acts as a conduit, transferring disaster risk from those who benefit from risk-taking to those who bear its costs.Impoverished communities are more likely to reside in hazard-prone areas, lack the resources to invest in risk reduction measures, live in substandard and insecure housing, and have limited access to essential services such as healthcare, public transport, and basic infrastructure. Specific populations, including women, children, and persons with disabilities, are disproportionately affected by disaster impacts. For example, studies reveal that women in the Caribbean region are less likely to receive official warnings about impending disasters than men. Similarly, during past disasters, persons with disabilities were often the most vulnerable.Building resilience through early warning At the UN Office in the Eastern Caribbean, we are rising to the challenge by prioritizing our commitments to the Sendai Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This entails a resolute reduction of poverty and inequality, alongside action against disaster risk and vulnerability. Our focus remains unwaveringly fixed on the most vulnerable communities, ensuring they receive the protection and support they deserve. On a global scale, decision-makers are looking at revamping the financial architecture, aligning it to better serve the needs of the world's most vulnerable countries. Economic resilience is critical for those most at risk from disasters, forming an indispensable component of our collective strategy to confront the challenges that lie ahead. © UN Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean Disaster preparedness drills can help reduce the impact of disasters on communities. Furthermore, the implementation of the Early Warnings for All initiative, including in Caribbean countries such as Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda, will help to ensure that every corner of the globe is covered by multi-hazard early warning systems within the next four years. By prioritizing the most at-risk communities, we offer them the vital lifeline of preparedness and early warnings.By engaging in disaster risk reduction, countries will bolster their capacity, and empower diverse groups in all decision-making processes. Women, the elderly, and persons living with disabilities should be at the forefront, and actively included in our efforts. The presence of local, national and regional actors, including state and civil society organisations remains key to humanitarian and resilience effectiveness since local actors are often the first responders in an emergency. As we commemorate this year's International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, let us recommit ourselves to this formidable challenge. Let us remember that in the face of disaster-induced inequality, we hold the power to reshape the future.Together, we can break these chains, forging a path to resilience and equality for all, for a brighter Caribbean awaits.”UN Resident Coordinator:The UN Resident Coordinator, sometimes called the RC, is the highest-ranking representative of the UN development system at the country level. In this occasional series, UN News is inviting RCs to blog on issues important to the UN and the country where they serve.Learn more about the UN’s work in in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean here.Find out more about the UN Development Coordination Office here.                [ad_2]
