In truth, he had gone to the university for a different reason. He knew a lot of the Jedi were here, and he had wanted to talk to a few he did now know. It was odd, seeing them all older, knowing this was the age they had been cut down in. All of that was still so confusing about what had happened and why. It was cruel.
He'd been about to head home when he felt something. A signature he hadn't quite been brave enough to look for, knowing it would hurt if it wasn't there. It had been one of the few he had wanted to feel, but everything had been so overwhelming with news recently, if he hadn't felt it that might have been too much.
Without thinking, he followed it, until he found a classroom. He didn't need to look, he recognised the voice of the professor too well. So instead he planned to just wait at the back, not really wanting an audience of students to witness this.

"If it was possible to save them all, the Dark Side would never have existed" a sad reality really, but he knew it to be true. Somewhere, a long time ago, someone had given into those feelings, back before they had known what that would mean. "Knowing the emotions is one thing, it's learning how to live with them without acting. I suppose in some ways I was lucky, I never did have to learn that with anything. Well least nothing as deep as I know some went through" and some because of his death. Far as he knew, that hadn't led anyone to Darkness.
"The start was worth it in my opinion." Jaina was only still a beacon of light because of that training. Because of the choice her Master and Uncle laid out of her, "Giving so much power to a single emotion, it was too isolating. I felt comfortable speaking out about my anger and it helped me stay on the side of the light." She placed her hands in her pockets, "I think removing the shame and hesitation, helped several young Jedi even if we couldn't save them all." Her mind went right to her brothers and her twin's apprentice. The darkness that was destined to run through their bloodline. A darkness she hoped to break for the next generation.

Baby Obi-Wan once stared so hard into the Force that he was never the same. Ever since he joined the creche the Masters knew there was something... off about the little one. They weren't quite sure what to think of the littlest of the younglings. He always seemed to know things he shouldn't and offered words that often intimidated padawans, knights, and even gained concerned expressions from seasoned masters.
The guards in the temple were less amused when he learned to properly shield himself. Gifted in the art of shielding, Obi-Wan tended to wander from his creche. Normally, a wandering youngling wouldn't be a problem. Where one youngling lingered, a sentinel was hiding in the shadows not too far away. Obi-Wan Kenobi, however, finds the right moment to slip away.
When questioned what he is doing so far from his creche, Obi-Wan always answers, "Force says so."
Qui-Gon keeps stumbling upon a small ginger boy when he finds himself alone. The first time was a memorable experience. It is, after all, the first time Qui-Gon met his future apprentice.
"What are you doing?" And the voice makes Qui-Gon pause in his walk. A youngling is staring at him from behind a pillar.
"Thinking," he answers honestly. The boy, probably no older than four or five, steps out and walks up to him, arms held out in demand to be picked up. Qui-Gon obliges and settles him on his hip, changing his destination to the creches. "Why aren't you with your creche?"
"The masters say I should listen to the Force. The Force says I should be here. With you."
Qui-Gon's lips quirk upward. "Is that so, little one? What else does it tell you?"
The youngling tilts his head, blue eyes shining. Qui-Gon feels like he isn't being seen despite the boy's eyes clearly on him. "Nothing you should know yet," the boy says.
Qui-Gon doesn't ask any more questions, too stumped to know what to ask the boy. The boy of course takes Qui-Gon's silence as his cue to talk. He offers his name as Obi-Wan Kenobi and tells him all about his friend Quinlan who sees things when he touches stuff and- "He doesn't see stuff when he holds my hand because my shields are good. Did you know the guards don't like it when I leave? Guard Feemor says I shield too hard."
And doesn't that take Qui-Gon by surprise. "Is that so?" Temple guards wore masks to protect their identities. Qui-Gon wasn't aware his former padawan took rotations as a guard.
Obi-Wan replies easily, "He doesn't know I know."
Qui-Gon quickly returns the youngling to his creche. The second escape and return allows Obi to decide he likes this master. It's the seventh escapade from their first meeting that the guards and creche masters and even passing jedi learn that when Obi-Wan goes missing he's with Qui-Gon.
#this was originally about baby Obi-Wan being a menace of a seer#then it became about baby Obi being a menace of a seer who follows the Will Of The Force in a way that even Qui-Gon can't follow#Qui-Gon picks Obi-Wan up bc jedi babies are cute and raised by everyone#also if you've never interacted with a child I should inform you that children do in fact walk up to people and ask for uppies#anyway here's a thing#jedi babies are very trusting#baby Obi will look into peoples souls and tell them the most off the wall shit#many jedi actually go to therapy because of this#maybe if Mace doesn't Look at him then he can ignore the Shatterpoints#star wars#star wars series#obi wan kenobi#qui gon jinn#qui gon and obi wan#baby Obi-Wan#star wars headcanons

I keep making jokes that Luke and Qui-Gon are soulmates but then I started actually thinking about it now I’m starting to honestly believe it and I think it’s becoming a problem-
Like! Luke and Qui-Gon are both the hardest men to catch! Context clues tell us that Qui-Gon gets himself into a lot of trouble (Dooku saying he’s worried because he won’t be there to protect him) but Qui-Gon is never all that concerned, and I honestly think it’s because he pulls a Luke everytime and just stumbles his way out of trouble.
Qui-Gon, as I know and love him, is not an expert strategist, not really. He can come up with plans, but they’re pretty similar to Luke’s plans, ie, they have a beginning and an end but the middle consists of winging it. Luke is so much the opposite of a strategist that I firmly believe that the plan in Return of the Jedi was not solely created by him (only the dramatic flair was added by him. You know, the mischief-making and chaos-causing and bad guy baiting. I like to think Lando made him repeat the plan multiple times so that Luke wouldn’t go off script midway through because Luke Skywalker is totally the type of person to go off script midway through).
And! Qui-Gon Jinn with the Jedi Council and Luke Skywalker with the New Republic’s Senate. The only person who Luke ever listens to is Leia. We never even see him talk to another commanding officer! Does he even know who Mon Mothma is??? And, I just have to say it, in the Thrawn Trilogy, he straight up breaks Mara Jade, the former Hand of the Emperor and a woman who has threatened to kill him every time he so much as breathes, out of the house arrest that the New Republic placed her under. He breaks her out and he feels no shame whatsoever. The New Republic shows up to arrest him and Han and Han is the only one who seems concerned because Luke does not give a shit.
Luke doesn’t care about the New Republic! He cares about Leia and he cares about the people in the galaxy, but he doesn’t care about politics even slightly! He believes in hearing out both sides and judging things fairly, he is weird! Luke is a civilian! And they “let” him get away with so much, becausw they don’t actually have a choice! Nobody can control this madman! He decides “I’m leaving on a journey, you don’t need to know where to or for how long, bye!” and then he leaves!
Qui-Gon is much the same! In the Phantom Menace, yes, but also in the Cloak of Deception (“another novel, Kacie? They aren’t canon-“ shut up, canon is whatever I decide is canon because this is my character analysis and if the old authors got to portray characters wrong, so do I). Qui-Gon hears orders from the Order and he is only willing to listen to them if they coincide with what he believes he has to do. Which is completely what Luke does!
Both of these men are Jedi with green lightsabers. They are both rule-abiding citizens approximately eight percent of the time or whenever it’s convenient. They decide to leave and then do so without letting anybody know. They are both seen by other Jedi as reckless and impulsive, when we as the audience know that what they’re actually doing is following the will of the Force. They are the most obnoxious Jedi to spend time with because they toe the line between taking dangerous situations seriously and making little tonally inappropriate quips to the enemy. They both make the executive decision that the best way to get their point across to someone attacking them is to be as annoying as possible.
But, most importantly, they both make Anakin want to be a Jedi! They both inspire him, they both do things that Anakin sees and thinks “So that’s what a real Jedi is.” On opposite ends of Anakin’s life, Qui-Gon and Luke both have the same effect on him of making him want to be a better person! Without Qui-Gon, Anakin turned to the Dark Side, and without Luke, Anakin would never have rejoined the light. They play a similar role, symbolically.
And they both have that connection to Obi-Wan, where Anakin seems to assume Qui-Gon and Luke have both spent tons of time with Obi-Wan. (Seriously, Anakin definitely thinks Obi-Wan has been raising Luke to be a Jedi since childhood, there’s no other explanation for when he says “You’ve made a lightsaber? Great, congrats, you’re a Jeid Master now.” Unless lightsaber-crafting is WAY harder than I thought…)
Moving away from Anakin though, the two of them also have a similar relationship to Yoda. Yoda is extremely exasperated by Qui-Gon, and you can feel the exasperation whenever Yoda has to deal with Luke, too. But, he also is horribly, terribly, terrifically fond of both Qui-Gon and Luke. Yoda considers them his friends, and he considers himself both of their teacher because he is trying not to think about Dooku, okay, let him ignore the elephant in the room for a moment. He cannot stand the way either of these men refuse to use common sense, logic, or the brains they were given, but he also really enjoys spending time with them and misses them both when they leave.
Qui-Gon Jinn and Luke Skywalker are either reincarnation, soulmates, or the Force is just having a great time fucking with the Republic(s). Any way you spin it, I like that they are so strangely similar :D

"This is a strange new world. Those labels seem less important here" it was a good thing really. Sometimes it had felt like things had become so focused on that, it had made the rules so much tighter. It was all a mess. "I don't disagree with that. Though in my time, they were often held accountable, even for things that weren't their doing" it was a mess, but that was politicians for you. "Some of the rules do make sense, others miss the point" a sad balance really, one he had argued about.
"Emperor who?" he was sure that name should be familiar, but it wasn't one he could think of. "It sounds like there was a lot of darkness in the galaxy" likely from fear, but why people were so afraid, he hadn't figured out yet. "Fighting to do good, it isn't a Jedi trait. We may try to, and we may fight for it. But people who aren't Jedi do as well. End of it all, all that matters is leaving the galaxy better than you found it. Sounds to me as if you did".
“guess that’s what i’m aiming for.” he shrugged. “i just don’t want to be labeled as anything. i want to be better than i was without that meaning i have to be a jedi.” maybe he could be good again, maybe he could find peace. sometimes it just felt hard to allow himself that, to think it could be possible. “i don’t agree with their rules and systems. i want complete control over myself and my choices. and i want the jedi to have accountability when they fail.” because they would fail. maybe not every time, but the jedi were no perfect order, he knew that now.
“rey. she’s emperor palpentine’s granddaughter, but she destroyed him and brought balance to the force. i tried to help her, but i used what life i had to bring her back.” he shrugged. he would have done it again if it came down to it. “i might not agree with the jedi, but she brought hope. i wouldn’t have been able to bring about the kind of peace and change the galaxy was looking for, but she could. she brought me out of the dark.” he didn’t deserve it, he knew that. but he would always be grateful for not having to rely on rage and pain…he was doing better at controlling it even if it was hard. “so i guess you’re right. hard to kill an idea.”

The Force worked in mysterious ways, that had always been something he'd believed in, though this truly was unexpected. Least now with his memories returned to him he could remember how to use the Force. There was a strange sense of relief about that. There was also something else, the Force was in all living things, and there was a few signatures he recognised. Though he also knew if he knew, they'd realise soon enough as well.
So it had been he had got up early to mediate when he heard footsteps. He hardly needed to use the Force to know his Padawan. "Well, took you long enough" he commented, not bothering yet to open his eyes.

she should hate him. it was in her training, ingrained in her mind from her earliest memories, and yet, vesta still found herself turning the knob to her house, a place she'd called home for years now. she needed to tell him before he went and tried to track her down. before any of her friends found him. "dad, i'm home--" she called into the house, shutting the door behind her.

how many of them were there? wasn't one enough? the sith maintained a rule of two, but honestly, the jedi could do much better with less of them around. this one was powerful, too. likely high up in the order, and could have heard of what she'd done. she was unsure if her act would pull one over on him like it had her fool of a master, but she made the attempt anyways. "master... i don't recognize you. i know timelines are odd here, you weren't a part of the order i knew, i don't think."

With everything that was going on, when he heard someone sounding like they were in distress, he was worried. Least until he heard what the distress was about. That seemed a very trivial thing to be worried about, although he knew that different people had different priorities. A few bruises didn't seem to be that bad.
"What makes you say that?" he asked, wondering what the long term consequences would be. He hadn't heard of any species were bruises didn't fade. "They usually don't last too long".

.。.:*☆ “Oh my god, look at my face….” Howl looked like he was close to tears, and it was not because of the pain. And also not because he was a coward, who had decided to run when not being able to talk himself out of the situation like usually. Because the wizard had not been in the mood to fight. Not with a group of clearly drunk men, anyway. And this.... well, this was the result of it.
“I ran into... something earlier, and, mean….. look at me! My face is all bruised….. I am never going to look beautiful again, I just can feel it….” This surely confirmed that Howl was a dramaqueen. And more than just a little vain, as well.

That feeling again. The Force seemed just as strong on this planet as any other he had been to. Only here, there was no Jedi temple, well actually there was just no Jedi. Other then him, as far as he knew. Perhaps not such a bad thing, he was sure the council could have endless debates about this place, and sometimes it would just be nice not to have to deal with them. Actually especially in a place like this, where he could feel the Force guiding him towards people who were sensitive to it. The girl the other day, now this man. "Excuse me, you haven't seen a wallet around here have you? I dropped it and can't seem to find it" actually it was still safe in his jacket, but it meant he could observe for a moment.

“come in!” padme replied after hearing the knock on the door. doing some of the work she’d had missed for a few days helped to refocus her to what she was used to. it felt good doing something that she loved. she looked up when the person walked in, smiling at the face she saw enter. “qui-gon!” she smiled when she saw him, remembering him from when she was a young queen.

"It did. And if the temple fell... the Jedi wouldn't. We give things representation, but at the end of the day, this building is just a building" maybe that was where they had first gone wrong, making the Jedi seem to be something they weren't, a legacy no one was going to be able to uphold. Least he was inside though, anything more seemed like a push. "It's unusual though, to hear someone speak of the Temple like that" with love and... fear seemed the closest word, but he wasn't convinced of that.
"Just stone that housed an order centuries old that tried to bring peace and balance to the galaxy at large. A building that represents a higher purpose. No matter what it's made of, it's still a symbol." A symbol too many in his family had tried to live up to, and either died for or died trying to destroy. However, Qui-Gon did have a point about the storm, and it was unlikely to get better, so he relented. "Alright, I'll stop for a moment." Jacen stepped up to the building's walls, stopping in the doorway and taking his shelter there. Going any further felt like it would invite trouble.

Other than ensure that they had been safe, Qui-Gon had opted to mostly stay away. The Force didn't lie, they'd know he was here, and he knew they would approach him when they were ready. After all, they had lived in a time he wasn't in, he didn't know what would have happened to them after he had died. Odd thought to have really, one he hadn't had to address before, even if he had his own secrets about that.
It seemed that today would be one of those days when he felt something familiar in the Force. Signatures might adapt, but their cores never changed. "Anakin, I can see it has been a long time" well it wasn't the same boy who he had known before. Ten years maybe had passed, and judging from some of the stories he'd heard, who knew what had happened.

@vcndetta for qui gon jinn ( prompt 24 - the maze opens up into a singular open path, going as far as the eye can see. no matter how far characters walk it does not feel like they’ve made any progress on the endless path. attempting to breach the stalks forming the path or characters taking some physical harm will reveal the path was an illusion and characters have been walking in place the entire time. )
